Today's show is brought to you by Dale Sawrence in
Real Estate and here's your host and Glamour Girl makeup
artist Cindy Gets.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Hey, guys, I am so excited to be with you today.
I have been out of town for a little bit.
I've been home in Virginia taking care of my parents.
My dad had elective surgery. He went for a new
hip and surgery went well, so thank you doctor Harris

(00:49):
back in Rafford, Virginia. He did an excellent job. It's titanium.
It's gonna last forever and ever and ever, and like
my dad. So anyway, thank you, thank you. Yes, yes,
I can't lie, Cindy. I missed going to the gym
with my dad and the last six months he's been
in a lot of pain because that a hip and uh,

(01:12):
you know, the nurses would say to him, Cindy, what's
what are you looking forward to? And he's like getting
back to walking, getting back to the gym, getting back
to mowing the yard, right, and so anyway, so I'm
so happy to be back here. Uh and yeah, so
let's have some fun. So, Cindy, we're going to be

(01:32):
talking about fun things to do for the summer in
Verer Beach.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
Yes, I love ver Beach in the summer. I know,
especially I love the heat.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
Do you Yeah, I don't mind it. And people, especially
when I go home to Virginia, people go, how do
you handle living in Florida in the summertime.

Speaker 4 (01:52):
Because of the beach breezes.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Well, I say, we live in a c but yeah,
the beach breeze is great. Yeah, some guys, if you're
looking for some summer fun in Via Beach, you should
totally check out, you guys, our beaches like South Beach Park,
or maybe explore some local parks and nature trails. You
can even try some water sports such as kayaking or

(02:15):
paddle boarding, or visit nearby attractions like McKee Botanical Gardens
Disney Vera Beach Resort. So I'm going to go through
that list with you, So stay tuned, keep it turned up,
because we're going to share with you all the fun
little things in Vera Beach that you can do while
the kids are home, while you've got vacation time while

(02:35):
you're you know, office on school break. Maybe you're a teacher.
So Cindy, we're going to dive right in. We're going
to talk about activities for beaches and water first.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
Okay, good, Okay.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
So I have several of the beach parks listed. Which
is your favorite.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
Of the beach park? Yes, Emiston, Humiston.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Okay, so I have that day oun Why is it
your favorite?

Speaker 5 (02:57):
I just have always liked it and I always took
the kids there to the park in front of it.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
So funny you say that. Growing up my parents, our
family would would vacation here before, way before I even
moved here, and that was one of our favorite parks
to go to, the swing set. You know, it's right
on the ocean. They have great picnic tables.

Speaker 5 (03:17):
Bathroom, bathrooms, and free parking, free parking and always plenty
of park and I.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Never had any Yes, yes, So it's just a delight.
So thank you for sharing that. That's on my list.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
Now.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
South Beach Park is another favorite.

Speaker 5 (03:33):
I did that years and years ago when I first
moved here in the end of the seventies, and it
was more singles kind of thing.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Well, they have a beach volleyball net. They have one
at JC two. But yeah, there's a lot of like
beach volleyball there. I can see that, Cindy. Yeah, it
was definitely definitely singles. You know you saw in the
night before in the club. The next day they were
out on the beach there, same people. Yes, I do
want to add. Plenty of parking and it's free. You know,

(04:04):
there's no no, no admission, you just you just park parking.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
That's it. That's what we love where we fight for.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
That, yes, fighting for that. Okay, Round Island Beach Park.

Speaker 5 (04:16):
I don't really go there, I know me. I don't
know it once maybe I went like forever ago.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
And it's nice. It's just a little bit off the
beaten path.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
Yeah, Turtle Beach I used to go to with my dog.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Oh okay, okay, so another water activity and I have
to mention j C Park. Now that is my parents'
favorite because of the boardwalk. So we'll get on that
boardwalk and they're old school. Do you remember there was
a sign on it that said you have to touch
to make it count. I don't know if it's still there,

(04:48):
I don't know, but we would walk one length, touch
and then go back and walk the other length and touch.

Speaker 5 (04:54):
You know, a lot of people did it during COVID
during COVID. Yes again, free parking.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
There's a beautiful area to picnic there and it's so funny, Cindya,
I know you know this. People will show up at
at sunrise, like early early and dib because there's no reservations.
You first come for serve and they'll have their their
barbecue already out and going and the food already setting
out on the picnic table, which is great really, so

(05:22):
so many families and you know, there's so many bunnies there.

Speaker 5 (05:25):
There's a lot of bunnies. There's a lot of bunnies.
And there's a lot of parties there. Yes, we've had
happy birthday parties. Yes, yeah, yeah, So you get in
line and get your table. Yes, yes, Jessey. We have
phenomenal parks, we really do.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
We're so lucky. And that's only a few of them.
There are several more, but those are my top ones
would be South Park, Hemmiston and JC And.

Speaker 5 (05:50):
There's a hidden one and I don't know the name
of it. I should know it. It's in between rha
Mar and Hammiston. It's a little it's tucked tiny. Yes,
there's no bathrooms there. That's the thing, the same as
sex and positives.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
No, it's like eight parking slots. It's kind of a
strange little area, but it's.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
It's secluded and it's nice.

Speaker 5 (06:13):
Nobody goes there, absolutely, yeah they will.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
Right, Okay, So other than hitting the beach at our
lovely public beaches, kayaking and paddle boarding is huge. We've
got several companies in town. They're all great, and you
can rent a kayak, rent a paddle board. And I
got to tell you my little fun secret for uh
pretending like I'm on vacation is one of the there's

(06:40):
a company in town that actually rents out paddle boards, surfboards,
beach chairs over a coasta. Yeah, so you can sit
and you get full service, you get you know, food
from coast. I you know, it's amazing. That is like
my favorite thing to do as a as a vacationer here.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
And yeah, that's a staycation for sure.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
It is.

Speaker 5 (07:02):
There used to be someone I think I'm telling the
right thing. With those giant bicycles with the giant plastic wheels.
I want to say they stayed random years ago, but I.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
Could be wrong.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
Gosh, I haven't seen you those in a while.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
Yeah, Okay, fishing. I'm not a fisherman, but you see
people you can fish off of the beach pier or
a boat, so you don't have to have a boat.
I see a lot of people fishing, like under the bridge.

Speaker 4 (07:27):
Absolutely. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
So that's just a fun thing to do with your
family or friends.

Speaker 5 (07:34):
Some of this more secluded beaches you can do that.
I know my grandkids did just throw on a line
and catch popino or whatever it is season.

Speaker 4 (07:40):
Oh, that's just yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
It is another notable you really have to go see.
It is Sebastian Inlet State Park. Absolutely, and believe it
or not, the surfing is pretty good.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
There's good there. It's not Pipeline Hawaii, but a lot of.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
The surfers know about Sebastian I do.

Speaker 4 (07:59):
It's our local.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
Yeah, that's right, that's right. Okay. One of my personal
favorites that I love. You can drive it, you can
walk it, you can hike it, you can run it,
which is what I do. And that's jungle trail.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
So for those of you that don't know jungle trail,
thank the Lord, Cindy. It's still preserved. It's still a
dirt road and it runs right along the Indian River.
So when I run, you're literally I mean sometimes when
we have storms the water comes up over the road.
It's right there hugging the edge of the water, okay,

(08:37):
And you see fish jumping out of the water. Sometimes
you see dolphin, you see you know, seilboats going by.

Speaker 5 (08:44):
It.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
Truly, truly is magical and what is really cool, Cindy.
So the kind of the main area is just let
me think about this, just south of five ten, but
you can actually jungle trail, as you know, goes on
the other side of the road and continues to go
behind Windsor which is north and all of that is

(09:05):
like cattle land. It's just beautiful untouched land.

Speaker 4 (09:10):
Don't tell anybody.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
And I didn't even mention bicycling. It is a great
place to also bicycle because the cars go super slow.
You don't have to worry about, you know, getting run over.
It's I'm telling you. If you have not experienced jungle
trail yet with your family or just by yourself, do it.
And there's actually a little public place with a public

(09:35):
bathroom that you can park.

Speaker 5 (09:37):
Did you know that my dad I didn't know. Yeah,
I didn't know. It's been a while since I've been there.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
Yeah, it's absolutely amazing. One of my faves. Okay, so
parks in nature. Let's talk about McKeith Botanic Gold Garden.
So that is absolutely it's gotten bigger, it's gotten better,
it's gotten more beautiful. You've got I actually didn't realize
this eight teen acres. Did you know that it's eighteen acres?

Speaker 4 (10:03):
I didn't know the actual map, but it's I knew
it was. It's good sized.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Yeah, eighteen acres, a tropical garden, various plants, flowersash pad
they had there, Yes, what are features? There is a fee,
so I think it's less than twenty dollars a person, Cindy.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (10:21):
I've always had the what do you call it, like
a pass? Correct, Yeah, so I don't think it's too much.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
It's but it's definitely, you know, probably the cost of
going to a movie. So just yeah, something fun to
do to get the kids outside. Also, sea turtle walks,
you know, that is one of our favorite things here
in Vera Beach is to boast about all the sea
turtles that are hatched here on our beaches. So uh,

(10:49):
there are a lot of tours that you can take,
So I look that up. That's always fun. Other activities
Cindy Ore Disney vera beach resort. You know, obviously it's
a resort. I mean you would have to go and
you know, a paida to be a guest for the evening.
But it is so special. It is right on the ocean.

(11:10):
They have a lovely pool, they have beach access and
it's very chill. It's not like what you think of Disney.
It's there, but it's the beach version and that's what
they wanted. Disney wanted a very low key, chill environment
and that's what it is.

Speaker 5 (11:26):
Yeah. I remember when it came in here. We used
to go to the bar all the time, which is
up a story or so. When they have those really
cool nautical books. They have what do you call it, telescopes, binoculars,
all kinds of stuff in the bar is really nice too,
Wow it is you know, it's Disney nice well, and
the drinks are good.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
Maytn't tell you. I sneak over there a lot. I
don't sneak. I mean we all can go to the
restaurant there. So that little area the little bar upstairs.
Sometimes after I work and I'm over on the beach,
I'll go up there. Shoot, now, I'm telling everybody. But
it's so nice because it's so chill it and they

(12:04):
have a little balcony and you can sit there and
I put my feet up and I just sit there
and I watch the ocean. It is magical, just like
Disney truly. Okay. The other thing, okay, it does get
warm in the summertime, and if sometimes you're just trying
to escape the heat, go to the Vera Beach Museum.

Speaker 5 (12:22):
Of Art, I mean displays. They have their incredible because
of the because of the client tell they can tap into,
in my opinion, to be able to maneuver or network.

Speaker 4 (12:34):
To get these different things.

Speaker 3 (12:36):
Yeah, it is insane what type of art and artists
that we bring to Vera Beach. So if you want
to throw in a little culture to your summer, your
Vera Beach Museum of Art is where you want to be.
The other thing is Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge, which
I've not experienced.

Speaker 4 (12:56):
Have you, no, Naa.

Speaker 5 (12:58):
I've done like benefits and stuff from but that never
actually gone.

Speaker 4 (13:01):
I believe it's the first national park in the United.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
States, it really is.

Speaker 4 (13:05):
That's funny Teddy Roosevelt, I mean, his own self.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
First National Wildlife Refuge. Good for you, Cindy. Yeah, so
pretty cool stuff for sure. Okay, Riverside Theater we have
great performances there. They'll do comedy nights. So that's a
fun little getaway if you've never experienced it.

Speaker 5 (13:28):
I went to the improv when you Were Gone with
a friend of mine and it was NonStop hysterical.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
Really.

Speaker 5 (13:35):
I think it was twenty bucks for the ticket, and
then they have little foods.

Speaker 4 (13:39):
Like they had grilled hot dogs. They do have the Hamburg.

Speaker 5 (13:41):
It was excellent. It was it's not that much money.
We'd laugh NonStop.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
Oh my, NonStop love.

Speaker 5 (13:48):
And that's interactive so you sit there yeah yeah yeah.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
Well, and just like the museum with the art, Riverside
brings some pretty amazing talent on those stages. Whether it's
a small you know, improv or whether it's a full
on show. It is amazing what they bring here to
our town.

Speaker 5 (14:05):
Yeah, kudos to Oscar here. I got to give him Oscar,
he's phenomenal. Yeah. I did a show with him a
couple of weeks ago on Willie Miller's show and he's
that's what he was telling us about was the improv
and he's like, you know, blah blah blah. And I'm like,
I gotta go see that. And it was it was
worth the price of admission.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
That's amazing.

Speaker 4 (14:22):
And it was it was full. I think there were
two tables that were empty. It was fun. Yeah, I
love that.

Speaker 5 (14:28):
I love that, Okay, and then they have let me
just interject, then they have the music too, going at
the same time, and you can sit up by the music,
or what we do is we sit out in the
park a lot which is just like across the thing
from the music and just uh, what do you call it?

Speaker 4 (14:44):
Tailgate?

Speaker 5 (14:45):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (14:45):
Yeah, yeah, So are you talking about the outdoor concert? Yeah,
that's that's so cool. It's free. It's free. And speaking
of Riverside, I want to tag on to that. And
this is one of my favorite things. My parents' favorite
thing to when they come to town is we'll go
to Riverside Park and my mom takes the bike and
she'll she'll bike that little path because it's all under

(15:07):
the oaks, and then my dad and I will walk
it and it has those little calistenic things. As you go.
It is the most wonderful little path. It's on gravel,
kind of soft sand gravel, so it doesn't hurt your joints.
It's wonderful. I don't know how long that little path.
I mean, it winds in and out.

Speaker 4 (15:25):
But do you know how long it is? You know
what I do, And I'm I'm gonna lie to you.
Maybe a mile and a half.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
Okay, that sounds about right.

Speaker 5 (15:32):
I don't think it's two miles, but I could be wrong.
And the tennis courts are right there too, that's right.

Speaker 3 (15:37):
And the handbowl of the yell racketball has to play
racket all there back in the day. So yeah, So
definitely riverside is shaded. So if it's hot and you
want to get exercise, but be outside, that is a
great little trail. And again you're right on the Indian River.

(15:58):
You can see boats being launched.

Speaker 4 (16:00):
It is.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
It's really really special. And of course, like Cindy said,
you can actually watch people play tennis, the ones that
are brave enough to play in one hundred degree heat.
Another thing that I want to mention, and I did
this when I first moved to Vo, So I actually
am certified as a scuba diver and Deep six is
a water sports uh business right here in town. And

(16:25):
they would schedule dives like to West pald like, yes,
like local dives. And so if you are into that,
you know, go to Deep six see if they've got
like a charter boat going out. And I think that
could be a lot of fun.

Speaker 5 (16:41):
Yeah, there's a lot of stuff going on here, a
lot of stuff going on. And we haven't even talked
about the fingers and those things either. People don't know
about them.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
Oh yeah, yes, that's a good one. That's a good one, Cindy.
So I ran and shopping and dining. You know, that's
so broad. But we have a lot of great little
restaurants and dining and they love for us to, you know,
go see them in the summer because we are seasonal

(17:09):
so and a lot of times they do great prices, yes,
because they want us to come in and so they
really take care of the locals. So definitely, you know,
that is the time to go out and enjoy a
dinner out with your family or just you. But speaking
of food and speaking of Vero in summer, one thing
I think everybody has to experience, and that is drumroll.

(17:33):
The orange ice cream at El sid On Ocean Drive. Okay,
I mean you have to have an orange saftc served
ice cream cone. Have you had it yet, Cindy?

Speaker 4 (17:47):
No, Well they have the citrus they're citrus people.

Speaker 3 (17:52):
They're citrus people, and so but this orange ice cream
cone has has become quite the item there. Everybody goes
to get one, and you gotta get one. It's just
so good. It's like a dreamsickle. Remember their dreamsickles? Yes, yes, yes, yes,
good okay, and I think they do actually have orange
crush slushies too, but that yeah, yeah, okay. And then yeah,

(18:18):
that's that's kind of my top list. There's one more
I put on for you, Cindy. Oh and uh, this
is somewhere where you can go if it's hot outside
you want to escape and be cool and relaxed. The library.

Speaker 4 (18:35):
Oh yeah, you know what.

Speaker 5 (18:36):
My friend Carrie does the programs. They're unbelievable some of
the stuff that they do.

Speaker 3 (18:40):
So give us them. Do you have any off the
top of her.

Speaker 5 (18:43):
She does the Spice Club, she does the Gardening Club,
she does the Swap Plant Swap Club, she does the
movie Club.

Speaker 4 (18:50):
They did Jaws.

Speaker 5 (18:51):
They just screened Jaws like a week or so ago,
because it.

Speaker 4 (18:56):
It's been a big deal, the Jaws thing.

Speaker 5 (18:58):
That's actually the last movie I have or so on
a drive in was just really yeah years Yeah, it
was a drive And she does all kinds of programs
like that, mystery book programs, crafts programs. It's NonStop action
and they do them at Bracket. They also have them
at the North County Library. All right, Well, so I
stepped up their game with that.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
I would encourage anybody's Cindy. Now I have one, but
I don't know that I could lay my hands on it,
so I might need a new one. But I would
really encourage you. If you're looking for something new to
do and check it off your list, go to the
library and get a library card. You know, I know
that sounds so old school, but let me tell you
there's something so relaxing about going. And my parents still do.

(19:38):
They go to the library weekly.

Speaker 4 (19:40):
Yeah, I do too.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
You are really good about that, Cindy. And your kids
can go. They've got a huge you know, kids area.
They can go, get on a bean bag and and
just you know, sit and chill and read. And my
dad would always go in and get the Wall Street
Journal and go to his little cubby hole. And you know,
my mom and I'm not even sure where she is.

(20:02):
I think she actually gets on the computer. She's totally
into ancestry dot com and all that stuff. So but anyway, we.

Speaker 4 (20:10):
Have all that genealogy.

Speaker 5 (20:11):
They have like one hundred magazines you can sent and
read their old subscriptions.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
And then my mom will actually check out movies because
you can do that for free, and so weekly she
and dad will watch movies off off of the DVDs
that they have to check out, so.

Speaker 4 (20:28):
Free, free, that's our favorite one.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
Yes, all right, you guys, we have to go to
a station. Break. Stay with us. We'll be right back.

fun in the summer, even though it's one hundred degrees out.
And that is the time that we love living in
Vera Beach because we have it all to ourselves. The
beaches are light, the restaurants are light, the traffic is light.

(23:49):
