Who beautifying vere of Beach.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
And today's episode is all about something we all need
you guys, Are you ready? It's decluttering? Okay, wait, wait, wait,
please don't turn the channel. I know that's kind of
a word. It's a dirty word, declutter. It's not fun,
it's not exciting. But I have some things to share
with you. It's gonna make.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
Your life more beautiful, I promise.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
So you've probably heard the saying a cluttered space is
a cluttered mind, right, Cindy, Yes, okay, A cluttered space
is a cluttered mind, and it's true. So when our
homes and workspaces are messy, okay, it's harder to think clearly,
feel calm, and be creative. So today we're driving into

(01:19):
how clearing your physical space.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
Okay, whether it's your office, whether it's your home.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
So if you clear that physical space and open it'll
open up mental space, reduce stress, and actually make you
feel more beautiful okay inside.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
So we're gonna go over five things to accomplish that. Okay.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
So, Cindy, this is a This is a topic very
close to both of our hearts, isn't it.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
It is because that's what I've been doing.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
It's funny.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
I've been traveling and you've been texting and you're like,
oh my gosh, I got this room done, I got
this room cleaned, I got my yard.

Speaker 4 (01:55):
You've been so busy decluttering.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Yep, I have. So I feel like a million dollar
I keep looking in the one room and I'm going,
this is exactly how I wanted it. And you know what,
why didn't I do it sooner? It was so much work.
It was so much work.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
And what made you it was a just sheer frustration
of okay, let's just go for it. If it's been
in your head so long, what was the trigger to
actually do it?

Speaker 1 (02:18):
That was it? And you know when, in all honesty,
I walked around it on the day the two days
that I was going to do it, and I didn't
do it. I didn't. I was like, because I didn't
know where to start. I didn't know where we're going
to start.

Speaker 4 (02:29):
We're going to cover that. Yes, yes, okay, she didn't
read my script. I did promise, I promise.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
But yeah, So okay, so you and I have been
on this, and you know, maybe instead of spring cleaning
and we've been summer cleaning.

Speaker 4 (02:42):
I don't know, but we'll dive a little more into
what she and I have been up to.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
But I want to I'm want to really get started
with the first thing because it really makes sense.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
And Cindy, I think you'll definitely.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Agree with this first aspect of the declutter process, and
one is, first of all, what happens to our brain? Okay,
so why clutter, you guys? Affects the mind? Yes, it does,
It truly does. So clutter isn't just stuff all right
lying around. It's not just the toys on the floor.

(03:15):
It's not just the papers and the mail everywhere. It's
actually visual noise.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Okay, that makes sense, It makes sense.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
Right When I saw that, I was like, visual noise.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
I got it, Like you're like, whoa, Okay, So every
pile of papers, every overstuffed closet, Cindy, that you just undid,
every junk drawer that I stink and have a need
to go through.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
Is like a whisper in your brain saying deal with.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Me, okay, right, okay.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
Deal with me right, Because every time you look at
that pile of mail that you've got to go through,
it's saying deal with me, deal with me, that over
stuffed closet with me, I'm suffocating, right, And over time
that whisper becomes stress, distraction.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
And even guilt.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
And you know what, it's not happy.

Speaker 4 (04:11):
It's not it's not what I'm dealing our joy.

Speaker 5 (04:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
When I walked and kept walking into that room, I
was like, why, yes, why do I do this?

Speaker 4 (04:22):
Stupid? Agree? I agree.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
Studies have shown that clutter can increase cortisol levels. Okay, See,
we don't need to go to a weight loss clinic.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
You and me.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
We just seem to lower cortisol with decluttering our houses.

Speaker 4 (04:38):
But it will.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Clutter can increase cortisol levels the stress hormone, making it
harder to relax in your own space. So when we declutter,
we're not just cleaning you guys.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
We're creating peace of mind. He's I love that word.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Right, we all want I want to and you know
what now that I did it. So I did the
one big There's a bunch more products projects, but the
one big one I finally got done this weekend. And
I keep looking at what I did now is like,
this is amazing. It's amazing. Look how clean it is.
Oh my goodness. And I scrubbed and I'm like it's spotless. Wow.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Wow, I can't wait to come see what you've done
at your house.

Speaker 4 (05:24):
I truly a So okay.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
So your first thing is understanding that what clutter does.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
To your mind.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
So we now know that it's it's it's that noise
that we want to get rid of. So okay, so
we need to clear that there's a reason why our
brains are going to be happier. Number two, Start small,
Start simple. Now this sounds I mean, listen, how how
long did you delay?

Speaker 4 (05:50):
Was it months? Was it years?

Speaker 3 (05:52):
Doing what you did recently? How long did you delay
that process?

Speaker 1 (05:58):
I would say a year or more, but most specifically
probably a good six eight months.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
Okay, great, I have a room that when I bought
my place in twenty sixteen, my guest room was kind
of the stepchild of the of the place, so you know,
the junk would go in there.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
I just really didn't bother too much with it.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
And so unfortunately it's been almost ten years that that
room needed attention. So unfortunately it's been gnawing at my
brain for ten years.

Speaker 4 (06:26):
How sad.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
But I'm you know, I'm confessing right now, okay, and
I have tackled it and it feels amazing. But the
stress on my brain over that, Cindy has been almost
ten years.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, And you know what with mine, not
to one up you or whatever. I had bought a
brand new rug for that room, and I had it
like rolled up, like I'm piled up whatever, and I'm like,
you know, I forgot I even bought this for this room.
And now I have it down and I'm like, wow,
that was a good choice, both putting it down and

(06:58):
both buying it. I was like, this is amazing.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
Yeah, oh boy.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Yeah, all right.

Speaker 4 (07:04):
So let's go in. Number two. Number two is start small,
start simple.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
So I think, you know, the point is as we
roll through our head like a hamster wheel and we're
hamster in a little wheel and we're just like, oh
my gosh, we need.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
To do it, and we need to do it. So
how do you how do you pull the trigger?

Speaker 3 (07:19):
So start small, okay, so that your brain can comprehend this.

Speaker 4 (07:24):
So here's the good news.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
You don't have to overhaul your entire house in the
weekend like Cindy did. In fact, small steps are more powerful.
So start with one drawer, okay, one shelf, or even
just your car, which oh yeah, YOI I need to
tackle that poor Cindy if I ever.

Speaker 4 (07:43):
You know, it's so sad. My car is so sad.
It needs some love. But anyway, we'll get there.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
You can still get in it though, wait, still still
get doors still open, and people can sit in it.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
Yes, we both live in our cars.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
So it's it's it's a you know, it's an ongoing process.

Speaker 4 (08:02):
So start with one drawer, one shelf.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
Or just one area of your house, your car, and
it's it's the five minute rule. Okay, five minutes, you guys,
set a timer for five minutes and tackle just one area.
And I love my Alexa, so I will say, set
the timer for five minutes, and you know, do what

(08:25):
I need to do. So I don't care if it's
on your smart watch or you know, Alexa, or if
you have a cooking timer, I don't really care, it
doesn't matter. Set the timer for five minutes, don't be overwhelmed,
and just tackle something that's been on your brain that
is frustrating you. You'd be amazed at how much mental
clarity can come from simply cleaning out a nightstand, that

(08:48):
dirty little, you know, junk drawer, or cleaning off your
bathroom counter.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
You know what, I that's exactly right. I'm glad you
said that, because when I said I didn't know where
to start, how I actually started is I went to
one closet that had four shelves, four shelves, and I
was like, you know, I've been I don't even know
what's in this close. The stuff is folded up, and
so what I did this is terrible, but it's just
how I have to do it. I took in this clothes.

(09:15):
It was shelves with folded clothes and shoes and you know,
suitcases and stuff like that. I literally took everything out,
all the clothes and piled it all over my kitchen counters.
So I looked at it every day every Okay, I
had it all there in all honesty. It took me
a month to actually say I'm going to do that today.

(09:37):
So here I saw all the junk, a lunk, this
is actually what's in my closet.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
Okay, you craveled the junk, you put it out in it.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
I did. I put it out. I shamed it. I
shamed myself whatever you want to call it. And I
said now, And I walked by it for a month
and I'm going, oh, my goodness, this is just what
did I just pick it up and you know, donate it,
just not even go through it, and I said nope.
Finally one day as I had enough and I said,
I'm going through it today. And I felt like a
million bucks and I went from four shelves to one.

(10:07):
WHOA was so impressive. Wow, And I gay. I donated
that some of the clothes had tags on them.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
Oh my god, you know what. I just donated some
clothes too that had tags on them.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
I'm just like.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
Cindy, this is so silly.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
I heard her saying one time, and it said, what
good is stale bread?

Speaker 4 (10:27):
Okay, okay, do you just keep it around because you
still have bread?

Speaker 3 (10:30):
No, it's useless. Throw it away or get rid of it, right,
but sometimes we want to hold on to it because
it's still bread. Like no, it's stale bread.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
Get rid of it.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Yeah, I mean, in all honesty, one or two pairs
of jeans. I wish I would have kept, you know
what I mean? But I can buy no one absolutely absolutely.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
Wow. Okay, So guys, start small, start Set that timer
for five minutes.

Speaker 4 (10:55):
Tackle one thing.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
One TT means you little thing that's been whether it's
Cindy's closet, whether it's my car. You know that one
tiny li and just five minutes. Guys, that's fine, that's
all you need. It's don't don't overwhelm yourself. And it's
the five minute take for instance, Cindy, okay, glove.

Speaker 4 (11:16):
Compartment of my car. Oh, it's kind of become my
junk drawer of my car right now.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
Maybe I'm the only person on the planet that the
glove compartment has gotten a little, you know, a little
too much in there. So I should take five minutes,
which I will. I'll take my own advice, set the
timer and just pull things out that don't belong and
clean it up, tidy it up.

Speaker 4 (11:39):
Five minutes, easy peasy.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
You know, what the really sad thing about it is.
But the really good thing about it is when you
do it, it's phenomenal.

Speaker 4 (11:49):
Right, It's the procrastination and the brain.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
Yeah, it's phenomenal. It's like, why did I do this sooner? Yeah?
Why did I not do this? All right?

Speaker 3 (11:57):
So we know that it affects your mind. We know
that we want to start small number three. Okay, so
here we are. We're talking on beauty and the beach radio.
So where's the beauty.

Speaker 4 (12:07):
Connection, Cindy? You know, how is cleaning it?

Speaker 3 (12:09):
Which you know that's kind of obvious, But decluttering isn't
just about the way your home looks.

Speaker 4 (12:15):
It's about how you feel.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
Just like Cindy said, think about how you feel when
you walk into a spa, all right, So everything is clean,
minimal and calm. That environment, you guys, is on purpose.
It helps you relax, breathe deeper, and feel lighter. All right,
So you can create the same effect at home by

(12:40):
surrounding only the things that truly serve or bring you joy.

Speaker 4 (12:47):
Doesn't that make so much sense?

Speaker 1 (12:48):
No? It does? It does? I feel that way. Like
I said, I walk around now two days after I
did this, and I'm like this place is like really clay,
So I'm happy.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
So so there's your beauty connection. You guys, When you
feel lighter and calmer on the inside, you will radiate
on the outside. I even told Cindy today when I
came in the studio, I was like, Cindy, you look
so good. So see you're radiating from all the decluttering.
You're like, I feel light as a feather.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
I do, And now I'm on that roll. I just
read something, what was it. It was about a business
meeting or something like that, and it said, just like
you're saying, just give it five minutes. But what the
trick of it's going to be is once you get
into the five minutes, you don't want to stop. But
that's okay.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
I mean, if you've got the time, you want to roll, roll.
But what we want to do is try to carve
out an entire day that we never have to tackle, right,
I mean, but somehow we do make it a priority
once we get past that five minutes.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
You know what. I did that and I was doing
some other stuff outside and I was like, okay, well
I'm just going to take a shower and then I'll
work on this tomorrow. And then I just walked by
one thing and I said, no, let me put this
where it's supposed to be. Let me put And I
did the whole room. It was eleven o'clock at night
when I got done, but it was done. It was done.

Speaker 4 (14:05):
Neighbors must have been.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
Like, wow, she's having a party and there lights are
on past nine o'clock. All right, So okay, so that's
three the beauty connection. You're gonna feel lighter, just light
and bright. So okay, So let's talk about decluttering your
digital world. Ouch ouch ouch, But it is important. It's

(14:27):
so important.

Speaker 4 (14:28):
It's just part of our lives right now, guys. So
let's look.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
So a cluttered phone with thousands of unread emails or
desktop full of files can weigh just as heavily as
a messy kitchen, would you agree, Cindy.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
And that's my next one.

Speaker 3 (14:44):
Yeah, so I and I'm gonna be I'm embarrassed, but
you know, there's confession time here.

Speaker 4 (14:49):
I have over five thousand emails.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
I have twenty two thousand. Do you. Oh?

Speaker 4 (14:54):
I'm so glad you beat.

Speaker 1 (14:55):
Me on that. I don't even know why I have them.
I'm like, okay, next.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
Time, and It's overwhelming, isn't it.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
It's so overwhelming, So try deleting apps you don't use,
unsubscribing from emails that no longer serve you, or even
just organizing your photos into albums. You'll be surprised at
how freeing it feels to declutter your digital space. Now, Cindy,
I will say I've started something new. I just flew

(15:21):
back into town from vacation. And while I was on
the plane, you know, you've got your phone on airplane mode, right,
so you can't have any Internet access.

Speaker 4 (15:31):
But what I've.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
Started doing, and I literally worked the entire time, almost
two hour flight, and I got so much done.

Speaker 4 (15:39):
I went on I had it on my phone on airplane.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
I went into my text and I will tell you
every time I turned my phone in, they're like, wow,
you have a ridiculous amount of texts. I never erase
any of my text Cindy. I don't need it, right,
and I don't think anybody truly does.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
I mean some I do, but not so.

Speaker 4 (15:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:57):
So I'll go through and people that maybe I correspondent,
that isn't someone like you that I continually you know,
I will I will delete you know, maybe it was
the plumber that was supposed to come and we're scheduling.
Oh I don't need that anymore, you know, So I
went in and deleted all the texts that I didn't need.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Okay, and what about in the text actual box of
deleting the actual text, that's what I don't do. Like
ones that are older to you, like three years ago,
I still haven't there because I don't delete them.

Speaker 4 (16:29):
Yeah, I actually yes, I will delete them.

Speaker 3 (16:32):
Yes if if I feel I don't need history, if
I feel I don't need to go back and look
at a conversation, Okay that believe it or not, there's
a ton there that you can get rid of that
really are meaningless to you.

Speaker 4 (16:45):
Tons, guys, Tons takes.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
A lot of work. It does in time because you
got to read it.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
But instead of watching a movie on the tee on
the airplane or I do bring a book.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
But to me, it cleared my mind.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
That's a good heart.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
So and then also I organized my photos just like
I mentioned earlier, because sometimes people are like, oh, do
you have a picture of blah blah, and I'll.

Speaker 4 (17:10):
Have to go scroll school school school.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
So if there's important things, I'm now categorizing them into albums,
and you can do that easily with your phone on airplane.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
Okay, I was thinking that too, because the phones do
have the option of album or file. Yeah. Oh okay.
So you have the kids, the you know, I'm almoys,
the house and whatever, and we don't.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
Take time to do it. It's kind of an extra.

Speaker 3 (17:33):
But Cindy, when you are trying to pull something up
and it takes you a million years to scroll through,
and you're like, you don't remember what date it was
that you took that photo of your grandkid, it's right
there in your album grandkids, you know, right.

Speaker 1 (17:46):
Plus they're my people are watching me as I scroll through,
going what's kind of birthday cake? Sad?

Speaker 4 (17:50):
And you know, oh yes, they're all like, oh wait,
what's that? You're like, oh geez, I don't want you
to see that. Yes, exactly so.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
And I will say now, also, if I'm on a
phone call that might take a little bit of time,
I put it on speaker or put my earbuds in,
whether it's a meeting or a conference or something, or
maybe I'm put on hold. I will go to my
computer and I will pull up my emails and I
will start deleting and like easy things like Amazon, Amazon,

(18:21):
you have a delivery, have a delivery, and I can
go I can, you know, type in Amazon, and all
of a sudden wish to because you know, I buy
a lot of Amazon, and I could delete, delete, you know,
you know, quickly.

Speaker 4 (18:33):
But that way is I'm just cleaning right while I'm waiting.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
Yeah, that's a good way. That's absolutely good. Yeah, yeah
it is.

Speaker 4 (18:38):
And again it doesn't require thought.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
No it doesn't. Yeah, a little bit, but yeah, I
get it.

Speaker 4 (18:44):
Not the ones that you have to respond to. All right,
you guys, I have one final on this, but we
need to go to a station break.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
We're talking about decluttering your space, decluttering your mind.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
Beach.

Speaker 3 (22:00):
Guys, we are back talking about decluttering our space but
also decluttering our mind at the same time. And the
last thing I want to leave you with is mindful
decluttering practice. So one tip I love is make decluttering
a mindful practice. Instead of seeing it as a chore,
think of it as an act of self care. Cindy,

(22:23):
play music you love, Light a candle, approach it with gratitude.

Speaker 4 (22:29):
I heard this, read this somewhere in a.

Speaker 3 (22:33):
Asian book, but it said thank things and then get
rid of it, like all the clothes you had, you know,
like thank you for your service, and you throw it away.
I know it sounds a little goofy, but they do
believe in that. So if you're getting rid of a sweater,
you know, thank you sweater for keeping me warm, and
then you pass it on to you throw it away
or thrift it.

Speaker 4 (22:52):
But anyway, it.

Speaker 3 (22:54):
Turns the process into something uplifting rather than stressful.

Speaker 1 (22:57):
Yeah, well that's you know, that's the thing. I mean,
why do you procrastinate? Yeah, that's a whole other show
right there. But I mean when you do finally get
into the mix of it, it's so mine refreshing.

Speaker 4 (23:09):
Yes, absolutely so, guys.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
Remember, decluttering your space is really about decluttering your what
your mind exactly. So when you clear than unnecessary, you
make room for peace. Everybody wants that, right, that sounds
so good. You make room for creativity. Oh yes, we
need that. Cindy is here pushing buttons and as a writer,
I'm also writing and producing here. We need that creativity

(23:35):
and joy. Who doesn't want joy? Okay, So my challenge
I got a challenge for you, guys.

Speaker 4 (23:41):
Are you ready?

Speaker 3 (23:42):
My challenge for you this week is to choose one space? Okay,
big or small, I don't care. I don't care square footage.
It could be your freaking glove compartment like mine, but
pick a space and clear it out. Okay, Notice how
your mood shifts when you do, right, Cindy.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
Yeah, yeah, hands down.

Speaker 4 (24:04):
Yes, yes, you know what.

Speaker 3 (24:06):
We are on Facebook, we are on Insta. I would
love to hear from you. Put me a little message say,
oh my gosh, Cindy, I cleaned my junk drawer and I.

Speaker 4 (24:14):
Feel so happy. Right yeah, yes, So Cindy, what are
you going to tackle next?

Speaker 1 (24:20):
What am I doing next? I'm working on my yard
and my neighbor's helping me and it's intense. And I
mean so I met some really good neighbors and that's
another plus.

Speaker 4 (24:29):
Okay, well mine is my kitchen cabinets. Oh I know,
I got to get rid of a ton of tough aware. Anyway,
you guys, make it a great day and make it
a beautiful one. Love you,
