Speaker 1 (03:45):
That is a mouthful.
Speaker 5 (03:46):
That is a mouthful, and I think.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
You should also get a prize for really amazing hair.
Speaker 5 (03:51):
Oh well, thank you so much. I need to get
a cut.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
No, no, just no.
Speaker 5 (03:55):
It grows at a very alarming rate.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
No, it's so amazing. Oh my gosh, the two of
you have beautiful hair.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Stacey's got this long hair and then Aaron's got this
amazing light.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
I don't even know it. Oh my gosh. Well I
appreciate you both. I know you're both busy.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Aaron, I think you literally traveled overnight to be here today.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
So let's get right down to it.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
This is an amazing event coming up and I cannot wait.
So what is music Work, Stacy? And why do a
benefit concert? I know music Works, that's part of your mission,
But tell us about what's going on right now.
Speaker 6 (04:33):
So Music Works is entering its thirteenth year of doing
concerts here in Vero Beach. It was founded by my
late husband, Rusty Young, and his mission was to give
back to the community through music, and he really had
a passion for music and he passed that down on
to me. And so we have an amazing lineup for
(04:55):
twenty five and twenty six, which I'm really.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Excited to share.
Speaker 6 (04:59):
But we're starting with this amazing also amazing benefit concert
for the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra and a man named
Tom Becker who is a fabulous musician who does a
really nice John Denver tribute. So that will be at
the Emerson Center on November twenty second at seven pm.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
So I.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Want to refresh people's memory as I did with you
off air. You know, you and Rusty had these amazing
concerts and it was always his vision, as you just said,
to give back. So every concert gave back a portion
of the proceeds to certain charities in our community.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
So I was curious. I was like, Okay, how did.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Music works and this Aaron Collins and Tom Becker?
Speaker 1 (05:47):
How did this all.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Come into a giant, wonderful ball. So can you just
explain that process before we move forward with Air.
Speaker 6 (05:55):
So back in the spring, I had heard that the
Space Coast Symphony was having some fun financial difficulties, and
I said to Patti Walker, who's the director of the
Emerson Center, that I would love to reconnect with Aaron
and do a fundraiser on behalf of the Space Coast
Symphony Orchestra. We had worked with Aaron before on some
other concerts, and I thought this would be a perfect
(06:17):
time to reconnect. And I also had at the same time,
I had seen this amazing video of Tom Becker doing
a John Denver tribute with I think the Sarasota Pops
Orchestra out in the West part of Florida, and I
contacted him and he was very excited about teaming up
(06:38):
with the Space Coast Symphony, and so is your idea?
Speaker 3 (06:41):
It was my It was you saw all this this
collaboration that Tom had previously done with the Sympathy Sympathy
why do I keep want to.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Say that symphony?
Speaker 3 (06:54):
And you were like, oh my gosh, what a beautiful combination.
And so you presented it to Tom. Yeah, I did,
and he said, he said, this is totally.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
On board immediately.
Speaker 6 (07:04):
And then and then well, I had to see if
Aaron was available because he's a very, very busy schedule,
and we managed to find one weekend where he had
some availability. So I was concerned about, you know, learning
the music and getting all of the parts to get together,
but they took it over. The communication between Tom and Aaron.
(07:26):
They just took over the communication and they set everything
up and like within days it was all set.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Okay, So now I'm going to go to Aaron.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
So, okay, Aaron Space goes sympath Symphony Symphony, tell us
about you know that and the and your programming, your mission,
tell us about that, and then I want to hear
about this collaboration.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
Yeah, so just a little brief introduction about the symphony.
Speaker 5 (07:52):
The sympathy.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
We have a lot of sympathy.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
We are also in our seventeenth year. We have been
performing concerts here in Vero Beach for thirteen years. So
we started with a mission to make music accessible. Symphony
music I had a lot of When I started the symphony,
I was very young, and I had a lot of
friends in college who you know, I can never convince
(08:18):
to go to the symphony, even though I conducted it,
so kind of, I know, not good. So I tried
to find reasons why people were what what was the
gate that was closed that was you know, presented in
front of people who didn't want to come, And several
of the reasons. One was price pricing was always high. Two,
(08:41):
it's not it's kind of stuffy environment. It feels a
little hoity toity. And three it's just it's just, you know,
I'm not accessible for kids. It's you know, it's there's
there's a.
Speaker 5 (08:51):
Lot of music.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
Yeah, so we tried to establish a group that would
focus on making it all those things accessible. Ticket prices
when we started started at ten dollars and then also
kids eighteen and under or anyone with a college ID
were free to all of our concerts and they still are.
And then on top of that, we formed a program
called Symphony for Everyone, which is kind of our moniker
(09:14):
and that program it allows people to pay whatever they
want to attend any of our concerts. So if they
can't afford a ticket, they can get a ticket for
two dollars, five dollars, ten dollars, twenty dollars, whatever they
can afford to come to a concert. So that's kind
of our mission, is to really make it appealing, exciting
and get new faces. I love when people come to
a concert they've never been and you know, it just
(09:38):
I like that atmosphere, kind of a rock concert atmosphere.
Speaker 5 (09:41):
So it kind of works for us.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
So we've just been going, you know, pushing through all
these years. We've performed over six hundred programs since we
started over the last seventeen years, and we just are
just hungry and tenacious group. And we have a great
team behind us, you know, and here we are.
Speaker 5 (10:01):
So I'm excited to do.
Speaker 4 (10:03):
This program with Stacy. And I was a big fan
of her husband, Rusty. He was a good friend and
he was a big proponent of the symphony. So that
was really important to me. And I'm glad that we're
continuing this collaboration and and hopefully we'll get to do
this more and more over the years because I love
(10:24):
combining orchestra with you know, rock groups and.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Ideas.
Speaker 5 (10:29):
So you know, it's.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
Becoming more and more popular now you're seeing more symphonies
do it, which is great, So you know, it's it's
I'm excited about this concert as a launching point, even
though we've done several that were successful in the past.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
So I did talk to Stacy about some of the logistics.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
But for the listeners, Okay, you live here, yess and
Tom is in North or South Carolina. South Carolina, North Carolina,
and you're going to have a concert.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Yeah, Okay, when are you guys going to practice? How's
this going to come together? Are Yeah?
Speaker 4 (11:02):
So all of our musicians, first off, our world class.
They come from all parts of Florida. They're all professionals,
everyone you know is just incredible that plays in the symphony.
So typically for a concert, we only have two rehearsals,
sometimes one rehearsal to prepare for a weekend set of concerts.
So our musicians are kind of in that atmosphere they're
(11:24):
ready to come in, do one rehearsal and put it
all together. It works out, you know, it's scary at times,
but somehow it just manages to work out. So, you know,
we establish all these programs, get all these artists throughout
the season, and we just kind of you know, talk
about things, you know, via phone or email, and then
(11:44):
we get together and get everything worked out in one rehearsal.
Speaker 5 (11:47):
For so we have three hour rehearsal to put together
of a show.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Kind of a feeling you thrive a little bit on that, Oh.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
Of course, yeah, I think all musicians do. I don't
want to say it's fear. It's definitely not fear, but yeah,
it's a challenge, it's excitement.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
And you know, you're building.
Speaker 4 (12:03):
I feel when musicians are on edge, we sometimes can
get the greatest moments of music out of them. So
you know that's uh yeah, So and this is kind
of I don't want to say it's an easier, lighter
concert than some of the heavier concerts we do, but
you know, it's a little bit more laid back and
the music is a little you know, more chill, a
(12:23):
lot like John Denver, and you know it's just it's
very peaceful and just very yeah, soothing exactly. So you
know it's I think it's going to come together nicely.
So yeah, we're excited about it.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Well, all right, So, speaking of Tom Becker and John
Denver songs, talk to us about the music for that evening.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Tell us about Tom first of all.
Speaker 6 (12:45):
So, as I said to you before we went on air,
Tom was a member of the New Christy Minstrels, which
is a group that I didn't know. Actually you can
hear Cindy going, oh yeah, and one of their songs
was this Land is Your Land, This Land I know
that one?
Speaker 1 (13:04):
Ye, yeah, that one and uh.
Speaker 6 (13:07):
And after that he developed a passion for the music
of John Denver and he also aligns with him on
environmental causes.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
This show is called back Home Again and which.
Speaker 6 (13:18):
Is also one of John Denver's songs, and he will
be playing a lot of all the things all the
famous songs that we all know and love Rocky Mountain
High and Annie and back Home Again obviously.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
Take Me Home Country, Ride right Love.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
I know I'm from Virginia, so every time I hear it,
I just picture being on the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
And are you a fan of John Denver?
Speaker 4 (13:45):
Well, I mean, I don't want to say he's before
my time, but he was before my time, you know.
And but yes, I love his music. It's very well
written music and it's just anything with a good melody, harmony,
and just you know, it's just what I love about
it is it's simplicity really and just the message really
speaks with the musical you know, forms that he that
(14:07):
he puts in. So it's just a yes, I do
love his music and I'm excited to get to perform it.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
Oh my gosh, amazing.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
Well, okay, so we've teased everybody about this. How are
they going to purchase tickets? And do you need sponsors?
What do you need to make this happen?
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (14:26):
Well, they can visit our website Musicworksconcerts dot com to
buy tickets. There is a link right on our buy
tickets page for this concert. We are also hosting a
post concert reception. There's a second separate ticket required for
admission to this reception. And yes, I would love a
sponsor for the reception. That would be awesome, Okay, particularly
(14:49):
maybe one that wants to provide refreshments.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
Okay. So, and I've been to some of your concerts.
Is this reception a new idea or I've just we've
done recept core I.
Speaker 6 (15:01):
Believe when we did Judy Collins, there's a reception after
the concert with her. And actually this year we have
a couple that we're doing. The receptions are with the artists.
So we have a Q and A with Carl Palmer
from Emerson Lincoln Palmer, and we also have a meet
and greet with Joan Osborne, who's whose concert this year
is singing the songs of Bob Dylan.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
Oh wow, So we have done them before.
Speaker 6 (15:24):
And I'm really pleased that the Emerson Centers is donating
the use of the hall for the evening with Space
Cost Symphony and Tom Becker.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
Wow wow, oh my goodness.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
So go to music Works Concerts that's plural music Works
Concerts dot com and they can get their tickets there.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
Yes, And what's the range of the ticket price?
Speaker 6 (15:48):
The ticket prices go from forty five dollars from up
in the balcony to one oh five upfront, five upfront.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
Okay, and then, like you said, the reception, they can
buy that, there'll be a place where they can get that.
Speaker 6 (16:00):
Yeah, separately, Yeah, there's a separate ticket link.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
Okay, very good. What are you most excited about with
this collaboration.
Speaker 6 (16:09):
Well, I have to say that I'm really looking forward
to raising money for the space Co Symphony. That's probably
my biggest objective here, but also bringing this new performer
to the Emerson Center who's never been there before. We
had a different John Denver tribute in February of twenty four,
and I'm really interested to see how somebody else is
(16:30):
going to cover his songs. So I'm excited about that.
And I love the symphony, so I'm very excited to
hear how the symphony pairs with those songs.
Speaker 5 (16:42):
I think it's going to pair really nicely.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
Yeah too.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
What are you excited about, Eric, Well, I mean.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
I love like I said first, I love Stacy, and
I love this collaboration and I want to see it grow.
Speaker 5 (16:51):
I would love to do more concerts.
Speaker 4 (16:52):
And then I would love to bring it to other
performing areas that we perform at too, So I just
this is we're very thankful for her support. I loved
Rusty as well, and he was very supportive of the symphony.
So I'm very appreciative of when great people like them
think of the Symphony and and try to, you know,
(17:15):
expand our reach in the community.
Speaker 5 (17:17):
Even though we've been here, you.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
Know, it's always you know, you're always looking to get
more people to you know, come watch more. Yeah, So
it's just, uh, we're grateful and excited, and like I said,
I'm always looking for the future. So I'm I'm hopeful,
and I'm and I'm sure this concert is going to
be a great success.
Speaker 5 (17:36):
We're going to work very hard to make it a success.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
I can't wait.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
I can't wait, and and I want the listener, Stacy
to understand how this is a little different than how
you normally do a concert, because as we have mentioned
earlier in the show that you would normally take a
portion of the proceeds and you would tell the audience
in advance, we're going to support you know, Boys and
Girls Club or you know, whatever it is, of the
of that show. But this is a little different because
(18:02):
you are taking the entire after the entire proceeds, and
it's going towards Aaron.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
Is that correct. That's correct.
Speaker 6 (18:11):
The concert and the reception, all the proceeds from both
of those events will go right to the Space Code Symphony.
Speaker 3 (18:17):
Wonderful. Yes, yeah, that is so amazing and so generous.
And when you win the lottery ticket tonight.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
We'll books rest in your love. Right, we'll have.
Speaker 7 (18:28):
All right you guys, we.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Have to go to a station break, but stay with us.
We'll be right back.
Speaker 7 (18:42):

Wonderful.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
And it's limited seating, so people need to get their
tickets and don't just assume that, you know, the day
before they can.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
I mean, you'll take.
Speaker 3 (22:28):
Them if there's room, but I would say, don't wait,
get your tickets. You've already got it up and running,
so they can go ahead and purchase that. So excellent, excellent,
Aaron I just have a little conf Do you play
an instrument, do you sing?
Speaker 1 (22:43):
Or is your musical talent in directing?
Speaker 4 (22:45):
I mean I had to get through all the instruments
to become a director. And I've sung on stage before.
I'm not a great singer. My grandmother was a singer
on the Lawrence walk Show. No way, I did not
inherit her talent there, right, So but i've you know.
Speaker 5 (23:03):
I attempt to.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
So I just have to be a geek for a second.
So I you know, I did all kinds of things
in high school. I did track, I did cheerleading, but
my my love was band. I played the flute and
there was a couple of times and I was a
drum major. So I directed the whole marching band, and
there were a couple of times that the band.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
Uh teacher, she actually let me direct a couple of
our concerts. Dude, that was you were.
Speaker 5 (23:33):
Welcome to come guest conduct a concert. I'm serious, if
you would like to, let's make it a thing.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
Let's make it a thing.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
I loved it over cheerleading, I loved it over every
I mean I was what high Yeah, I mean to
direct p Stacey, it is so fun really when you
go who and they're like damn okay, He's like no, no,
she can't get all that.
Speaker 5 (23:59):
I love it, Aaron.
Speaker 1 (24:02):
I'm holding you too.
Speaker 5 (24:03):
I'm holding you to it as well.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
We can make this another fundraising situation. Watch Cindy act
like a total fool on stage.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
I don't care, Bring me on, I can't wait. Yes,
all right, guys, we're talking.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
