EGM Network.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
From Studio A in Sunny Florida. Welcome to Beauty and
the Beach Radio, where it's all about who's beautifying Vero Beach.
Today's show is brought to you by Dale Sawrenson real Estate.
And here's your host and Glamour Girl makeup artist Cindy Gets.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Hey, guys, I'm calling all glow getters.

Speaker 4 (00:31):
That's right, you heard me, glow getters.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
I'm Cindy Gets your host where it's all about who's
beautifying Vero Beach, And today we're getting our glow on.
You know, last week we talked about building your confidence,
building your glow, okay for the summer. Well, now I'm
going to give you some tips this week to actually
keep that beautiful glow, but not the sweat okay, So

(00:55):
we're gonna sweatproof the makeup.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
All right, I'm going to give you some specifics.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Get ready with your pen and pencil or paper and
maybe text yourself some notes.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
But here we go.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
So we are talking about your makeup and skincare, fresh, flawless,
sweatproof even in the worst temps.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
Right now, we're in the hundreds. It's it's insane.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
So whether you're head to do a cookout, a beach day,
or a you know, movie night. I've got you covered, literally,
So okay, why your makeup melts and how to stop it?

Speaker 4 (01:29):
So let's dive right in. I am a wedding makeup artist.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
I am very used to sweatproofing my client, so I'm
very very familiar with this, especially being a makeup artist
in Florida. The heat and humidity can be insane. So
I wanted to share with you, like what exactly is happening.
So if you've ever wondered why your makeup just won't
stay put, here's the science, you guys. So when it's hot, okay,

(01:55):
your body produces more sweat and oil to cool you down,
all right, So and that moisture breaks down your foundation, powder,
and even eyeliner. So add humidity into the mix, okay,
which is basically extra water in the air, and now
your sweat won't evaporate.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
It's quite a mess.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
So it just sits on your skin, making makeup slide,
smudge and look greasy. It is a makeup artist's nightmare, truly.
So your pores open, okay in the heat as well,
so makeup doesn't sit evenly.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
This sounds like a mess, doesn't it.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
It really is, Cindy, Trying to put makeup on in
Florida heat is a challenge.

Speaker 5 (02:42):
Yeah, you know what I used to and then I
was told differently. I used to use a lot of
powdered makeups, and people said, when you get older, don't
do that because it sits in the creases. So I know,
I wouldn't know what to do now.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Yeah, I mean that is a true point. So you
got to be careful with that. For the most part, though,
powder does help. Even if you're putting foundation. Even if
you don't have lines on the cheek, you're still gonna
get oily, so you want to you can press it
on the cheeks, you know, just avoid those we say,
avoid the.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
Little smiley lines, you know.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
So we're gonna be talking about madifying primers. Okay, We're
going to talk about lightweight formulas for foundation. Uh, and
we're gonna be talking about setting sprays. You guys, those
three categories are your best friend for summer makeup.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
So let's let's.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
Dive right in. I want to talk about some very
specific products. First of all, let's talk about primer. Primers
Guys are the bomb. They are I do not do
any makeup for weddings without it. It does help it
to stay on twice as long. So the one I'm
gonna recommend for you is called smash Box Photo Finished
Control Matifying Primer. Now I've been using smash Box forever.

(03:56):
It is tried and true. It is one of the originals.
If you go to one of the cosmetic stores, you're
gonna see a zillion primers. It's a little exhausting.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
To be honest, real ella, I never heard of it before.
Oh my, well, think of it. You paint.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
You just painted your house, so you know, you prime
first and then you put the paint over it.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
So it's no different.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
You know, obviously gonna buy something for your face, not
the house. But yeah, same idea. It helps to hold
the product on. It helps to hold that paint on,
if you will. So smash Box has been around. I
truly love it. It's very versatile. So smash Box Photo Finish
Controlling Matifying.

Speaker 4 (04:35):
That's going to keep.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
It a little a little less oily looking, if you
will throughout the day. Okay, The second product for summer
that will really help you stay looking wonderful is Lightweight Foundation. Guys,
this one is a drugstore one, and it really does work.
It's lorel Infallible twenty four hour fresh Wear foundation.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
That is not what I use in my makeup cook
for weddings.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
What I use is about fifty dollars a bottle, and
I don't think that's necessary for every day. So if
you want something for every day, then I suggest the
looreal Infallible twenty four hour Freshwar Foundation. Guys, it works well.
It's great for every day in the summertime. And then finally,

(05:24):
and I'm kind of shocked, Sindy, A lot of people
when I use this on them, they're like, oh, what
is that?

Speaker 4 (05:28):
So highly recommend a setting spray.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
So the way I describe a setting spray, it's basically
hair spray for the face, you know what.

Speaker 5 (05:38):
I was just thinking that back in the days in
this did you do it? No? I never did, because
I really never my personally never got into wearing a
lot of foundation and stuff liquid foundation because I just
didn't like it. It was never matching my skin. And
I'm like this, Then you have the line here in
the whole bit. I was anyway, I use the powered stuff,
but anyway get into that that's what we did.

Speaker 4 (05:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Well, it's funny, Cindy, because when I'm doing event makeup,
whether it's for like dancing with a Verra stars, whether
it's it's sometimes weddings, I will ask, after I've done everything,
and I'm going to give you a setting spray example
in just a minute. But after all of that, I
will say, do you want me to hair spray your face?

(06:20):
Literally with hair spray. It's an old theater trick and
it does keep it on. If you're sensitive, don't try this.
It's basically shelacking your face.

Speaker 5 (06:28):
This is what we used to do, so say, whatever
is old comes back again. Yeah, and people do this
with perfume sprays as well. What we did is we
would spray it out in the air and walk through. Okay, yeah,
so close.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
Your mouth, close your eyes, spray it and.

Speaker 5 (06:44):
Then just walk through. And people not go like this.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
With the hairspray right right, walk into it so you
get like a mist of it.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
Yeah, you do have to be careful if you do that.
I've done it a few times with my eyes closed,
and then if I'm wearing false lashes, it wants to
stick shut my eyeballs.

Speaker 5 (07:05):
Because we weren't wearing full slashes, so I'm in different.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
Okay, fast forward. If you do that is tricky.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
You gotta make sure you open your eyes quickly after
you spray your face or your your eyes could potentially
be a little sticky shut. I know, hey, just warning you,
but that's not on the list. You guys, we went
down a little rabbit.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
Hole on that.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
What I recommend for a makeup spray is hands down,
Urban Decay All Nighter. It feels so light, but it
truly does help the longevity of your makeup. Okay, So
I'm suggesting smash Box Primer, I'm suggesting a lightweight foundation
by Loreal Infallible, and then finally you're setting spray from

(07:49):
Urban Decay All Nighter. These are relatively inexpensive items. If
I had to do a quick evaluation right now, I
would say they're all around twenty five So you're still
less than one hundred dollars for three items that can
really help your game, your makeup game for the summer. Okay,
and they last, and they do last, I mean, yes, yes, yes,

(08:13):
so good point, Cindy. All right, so here are a
few little extras I've decided to throw in for you.
So you've got your three majors. I'm just gonna give
you a few little extras. Waterproof mascara. Uh and it's tricky.
Waterproof mascara is meant to be dry. So first of all,
if it starts flaking, you know it's done. Throw it away,

(08:36):
you know what I'm talking.

Speaker 4 (08:36):
Well, Cindy, you don't even wear mask.

Speaker 5 (08:39):
Like I don't like messcara, And when I wear it,
I feel like I'm just I just don't like it.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
Well, I I'm very picky about my waterproof mascara.

Speaker 4 (08:50):
It can be clumpy, it can it can.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
Literally just flake off. That's not a good product. Personally,
I use Mary kay A mess Gara waterproof.

Speaker 4 (09:01):
It is so so good.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
But if you don't have someone that you know is
in the business, Thrive Cosmetics is a good one. And
actually Maybelene has a good one, you know what, And
the pink and green container.

Speaker 5 (09:14):
That's the one we always I did use Maybe Lene
and it was the best.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
It was the best one.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
It's been around. It's inexpensive, tried and true. So yeah,
and it didn't make your eyes itch or anything like that.

Speaker 4 (09:27):
No, yes, exactly.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
Okay, So waterproof mass scara brows you guys, love Love
Love benefit. You're can get the benefit twenty four hour browsetter.
So good benefits. Got some amazing brow products. So if
you want something to kind of waterproof your summer look.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
Do the benefit twenty four hour browsetter.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
And then finally blush. Now some of you may be going,
I don't need blush.

Speaker 4 (09:54):
I'm going to be hot. You know, I get red,
which I get and.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
A lot of times if I'm doing makeup on people
and they tend to get red, I will really reduce
the amount of blush I'm doing. Blush is very popular
right now though they all want that super pinky kind
of ski slope look. So I am suggesting cream blushes
that dry down, and Rare Beauty Okay has some that
are really good. So cream blushes that dry down, okay.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
Because you want them setting.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
You don't want them all slippery with a hot heat.
It's just it's not going to work if you need
the ones that dry down. And Rare Beauty has some
great ones, okay.

Speaker 4 (10:34):
So okay, so there are your summer products.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
I want to go into some application techniques now that
can actually help the longevity of your look for the summer.
So here we go application techniques that actually can last.
First of all, press, don't swipe. Now, if you ever
watch videos of makeup artists on let's say YouTube, you'll

(10:59):
see a lot.

Speaker 4 (11:00):
Of pat pat pat.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
Okay, that's real important if you want something to really
stick and stay okay, and then of course you can
brush later to kind of make it blend in. But
pat pat pat is super important in the beginning.

Speaker 4 (11:17):
So mostly talking about your foundation.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
Cindy, did you have You're sitting over there going huh nope, Okay,
moving on. Okay, So the next thing is use a
damp beauty sponge with setting spray. Guys, this is such
a great trick. So you know, you're pretty familiar with
a beauty blender. It's kind of that round sponge that
came out several years ago and you see all the

(11:41):
artists using it.

Speaker 4 (11:42):
You don't need to get that fancy.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
You can literally buy wedges from the drug store. Okay,
You just damp it and then you actually spray the
setting spray on it and then pat pat pat again.

Speaker 4 (11:55):
That is helping to keith the makeup stay longer. It's
pretty amazing.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
Yes, you can spray the face, like we said, but
if you really want to get that little extra edge,
you would pat it with the setting spray.

Speaker 5 (12:06):
That makes sense, though, Yeah, I mean we were living dangerously.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
Back then, Yes you are.

Speaker 5 (12:12):
We were also with the people that still had gotten
God love them. The women that went and got their
hair done on Saturday morning and then when they yeah,
and it.

Speaker 4 (12:21):
Stayed like that for the whole week.

Speaker 6 (12:27):
It did not.

Speaker 4 (12:28):
I would love for my hair to stay a whole week.
The whole week is what to do.

Speaker 5 (12:33):
A friend of mine, I used to walk up behind
her and go like this, and your hand would bounce off.
I'd be going, oh, it's still got two more days.

Speaker 7 (12:40):
My god, yeah, a goof Yeah.

Speaker 5 (12:43):
It was so much fun.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
Oh my lord.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
We have two more things, the third Way application technique
wise layer cream under powder for staying power.

Speaker 4 (12:55):
It's so funny.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
Literally, before I came to the studio, I had a
former client from a shoot I did. She's like, Cindy,
I'm getting ready to do a photoshoot. I have to
come make up ready. Do I wear my foundation or
do I just wear my powder? And I'm like both,
especially especially for her because she's going to be under
some bright lights and it just completely eliminates color and

(13:20):
it makes you so transparent.

Speaker 4 (13:23):
So I did say both. But layering also helps to
for it to not You've got more longevity when you
layer like that.

Speaker 5 (13:33):
Yeah that makes sense. Yeah, it gets a little bit heavy,
but it makes sense. It's like I said, I always
just did the powder. I didn't bother with the foundation,
but I get it.

Speaker 4 (13:41):
Yeah, and then finally.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
Apply thin layers and let each set before the next.

Speaker 4 (13:48):
So you know, if you want to.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
Build your foundation, you do need to give it some
time between layers to set.

Speaker 4 (13:57):
That's really important.

Speaker 3 (13:59):
If I'm doing that, I will say, put my foundation on,
and then maybe I will line my lips, and then
if it's still not you know, setting the.

Speaker 4 (14:08):
Way I want, I may may, you.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
Know, put my eyeliner on, you know, so I'll just
keep moving, But do give that chance a little bit
to settle before you add another layer.

Speaker 4 (14:19):
Otherwise it's just going to be a big blur on
your face.

Speaker 5 (14:21):
And how do you know, can you feel it? Oh?

Speaker 3 (14:24):
Yeah, yeah, you can just kind of tap it and
it's not wet anymore.

Speaker 4 (14:28):
It's it's a little more just I don't.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
Know, not tacky is the word, but you can tell
it's settled.

Speaker 4 (14:35):
Okay, you guys, I'm going to give you.

your glow on.

Speaker 4 (18:49):
And I'm not talking sweat.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
I'm talking a beautiful radiance for summer where your makeup's
not going to slide off, your your eye makeup is
not going to come off, and so so we're wrapping
it up with on the go touch up kit items.

Speaker 4 (19:05):
These are things that you want to put in your
purse for the summer.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
Okay, So the first thing, guys, is blotting sheets.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
Do you know what those are?

Speaker 2 (19:12):
Sure?

Speaker 3 (19:12):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (19:13):
Yeah, yeah, And those are really fabulous.

Speaker 4 (19:15):
So they are.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
So there's plenty out there, but one that's pretty tried
and true that I've used on shoots and it's very inexpensive.
It's the Clean and Clear oil absorbing sheets, just like you.

Speaker 4 (19:28):
Know the Clean and Clear brand.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
It's in the blue packaging and the actual absorbing sheets.
They're like little films about you know, the size of
like a two inch square maybe, and they're blue and
it's kind of weird, but they really work. It's crazy.
So you can get like like fifty sheets.

Speaker 4 (19:50):
In a pack or something like that.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
Very small, very easy to put in the purse. So
Clean and Clear oil oil absorbing sheets. You can get
them in any drugstore. It is dermatologist approved. The next
is press powder with a mirror.

Speaker 4 (20:02):
This is important. You probably already have this in your
in your purse.

Speaker 3 (20:07):
It's important because sometimes the makeup can start splitting, I mean,
and just it can get some lines.

Speaker 4 (20:13):
It's just the nature of the beest.

Speaker 3 (20:14):
So sometimes it's nice to be able to have the
powder and just do a quick little touch up, or
if you're getting shiny on the forehead, fourhead, nose, and
chin are kind of the typical areas where you need
to powder a mini setting spray guys, you know, they
all have travel sizes. It's a great thing to have it, really,
and it actually feels good when you spray it on

(20:37):
your face. It does feel good, so that.

Speaker 4 (20:39):
Can give you a nice little lift if you're going
into an important meeting.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
Travel size perfume. I keep that in my glove compartment.
To you, Cindy, No, I do so much traveling and
sometimes I find I feel stale.

Speaker 4 (20:57):
And you gotta be you gotta be careful.

Speaker 3 (20:59):
And I actually want to do a show on summer fragrances.

Speaker 5 (21:03):
I think that would be good because they have to
be like That's the reason I don't do it, because
they have to be really light, like I like lavender
and blah blah blah blah.

Speaker 4 (21:11):
The one that I think, Cindy, you might enjoy. And again,
I want to do a show on this.

Speaker 3 (21:15):
But Joe Malone is wonderful and they're his fragrances. Are
mostly like herbs or like lavender lemon edible products actually,
but very soft. Pear pair is one of my favorites.
So they're they're light. Yes, you got to be very careful,

(21:38):
make sure, you know. And I buy a lot of makeup,
so I get a lot of those samples. You got
to make sure you smell it first. I've made the
mistake of putting all my little freebies in the glove compartment,
Cindy and all spray, and I'm.

Speaker 4 (21:51):
Like, oh my, it's so much.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
And I think one time it was a men's fragrance.
I didn't notice.

Speaker 7 (21:57):
I was like, oh my gosh, I smell like a
man or good with a man, or you know, scrab
I was like, okay, So anyway, just kind of proof those.

Speaker 3 (22:07):
But have a mini setting UH setting spray and a
trial sized perfume in your car.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
Deodorant wipes there. That is a thing.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
I used to actually have the little mini spray. You
can buy the little mini spray deodorant, but they actually
have deodorant wipes.

Speaker 4 (22:24):
Loomy by far is the best one to get.

Speaker 3 (22:27):
It's twenty four hour protection and works all parts of
the body.

Speaker 4 (22:31):
Uh's Loomy l U m e.

Speaker 3 (22:33):
You've probably seen their commercials, but yeah, great, great thing
deoter wipes. And then finally, I'm kind of excited about
this product. I'm I know, Cindy's outside a lot. I
like to walk and run and sometimes I want to
put a gloss on. Well elf e lf elf Brand

(22:54):
has a sun Boss Gloss sun Boss Gloss.

Speaker 4 (22:58):
It's got SPF A twenty five. Guys.

Speaker 3 (23:00):
You can get Elf Brand at any drug store. It's
super cheap. They actually have some decent products. I don't
use all of you know, their stuff, but there's a
couple of things and this is exciting to me because
I can put a gloss on while I'm outside, maybe
walking with a friend, because sometimes we'll go and grab

(23:21):
an iced tea or something afterwards. So it's nice to
feel somewhat made up and not too crazy. And it's
got the sunscreen so SBF twenty five and that is
the elf sun Boss Gloss.

Speaker 4 (23:36):
Beautiful colors.

Speaker 3 (23:37):
I just got me a light pink one, so I'm
super excited about it. So anyway, those are some things
I think that are going to be helpful to throw
in your purse, maybe throw into a little emergency kit
in your in your car.

Speaker 4 (23:51):
Be careful though.

Speaker 3 (23:52):
I know in summertime, Cindy, anything left in the car
can cook.

Speaker 5 (23:56):
That's what I was wondering, is how it was going
to cook.

Speaker 4 (23:58):
Yeah, how you know.

Speaker 5 (24:00):
It's a good thing you brought up about the lips too,
because that's one thing I forget to put on.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
Yeah yeah, And I like wearing the bomb like a
chapstick with a sunscreen, but to have a gloss with
some sunscreen is another way just to have that protection.

Speaker 4 (24:15):
But maybe feel a little a little more pretty. But yeah,
be careful.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
There's only certain things that I can actually keep in
my glove compartment because it does get well over one
hundred in our cars, and so keep most of these
items in your purse in your summer bag.

Speaker 4 (24:34):
You guys.

Speaker 3 (24:34):
I hope this helped you stay glowy, not greasy, and
remember the real glow comes from confidence, it comes within you.
Have a great week, Love you, guys,
