The following program was pre recorded to start today's Bible
answer Man broadcast. Here's your host, Hank Canagraph.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
They very much ready. We begin the broadcast today with
the words of Isaiah, who said, present your case, set
forth your arguments, says Jacobs King, bringing your idols to
tell what is going to happen. Tell us what the
former things were so that we may consider them and
(01:07):
know their final outcome, or declare to us the things
to come. Tell us what the future holds, so that
we may know that you are gods. And the reason
I bring up these words by the prophet Isaiah is
there are all kinds of prophecy pundits today in the
Christian Church who are telling us that they know what
(01:32):
the future holds. In fact, some go as far as
to say that they know precisely when the end of
the world will come, or when our Lord will return.
It used to be May fourteenth, nineteen forty eight. That
was the pivotal date for date setters. The return of
(01:53):
the Jews to Palestine, of course, provided the basis for
determining the exact timing of the return of Christ and
the end of the world. Is how Lindsey explained in
The Late Great Planet Earth. When the Jewish people become
a nation again in nineteen forty eight, the fig tree
put forth its leaves. Jesus said, truly, I say to you,
(02:17):
this generation will not pass away until all these things
take place. A generation in the Bible is forty years. Therefore,
Christ's secret return was projected to take place in nineteen
eighty one, and his second coming seven years later in
nineteen eighty eight. Now, if Lindsey was reading the scripture rightly,
(02:43):
our Lord had to be mistaken respecting his own return.
Of course, people have short memories, so it wasn't all
that long until June tenth, nineteen sixty seven, replaced May fourteen,
nineteen forty eight, as the qu essential day in end
time speculations, and this time the math was downright magical,
(03:07):
because you'd add forty to nineteen sixty seven, you subtract seven,
and two thousand emerged as the new date, pretending the
coming of Jesus and of course the carnage of the Jews. However,
once again the stars failed to align. But prophetic superstar
Jack van Impi was an innovator, and he was able
(03:29):
to hold false prophecy charges at bay by recalibrating a
generation at fifty years, in fact, fifty one point two years,
to be exact, said van Impy. If you divide seventy
seven generations into four thousand years from Adam to Christ,
that comes out to fifty one point two and if
(03:51):
you add the extra six months because the Sixth Day
War took place in June, you're almost at fifty two years.
He goes on to say, we add fifty two to
nineteen sixty seven, subtract seven years from that for the tribulation,
and we're talking about twenty twelve. And then van Impi
found confirmation in the Mayan calendar. One more in a
(04:17):
long litany of failed prophecies. Scripture is not intended to
tell us when Christ to a return, but that he
will return, and when he does, the eternal state will
finally become reality. Christ will fully resolve the problem of
sin and satan. He will separate and judge the wheat
(04:40):
from the tears. He will resurrect the dead. He will
recreate the universe without the stain of disease and destruction,
decay and death. The point, quite simply is this biblical
prophecy is not designed to help us pin the tale
on the Antichrist or to pin down a few tribulation.
(05:02):
Prophetic stars in the constellation of biblical prophecy are powerful
proofs that God has spoken that the Bible is divine
rather than merely human in origin. In the words of
God himself, I told you these things long ago, before
they happened. I announced them to you so that you
could not say my idols, did them my wooden image,
(05:23):
my metal God ordained them? Or in the words of
Jesus Christ himself, I have told you now before it happens,
so that when it does happen, you will believe. Counterfeit
prophecy stars like Jack van Impi have one thing in common.
They are consistently wrong. In illumined contrast, a genuine prophecy
(05:47):
is infallibly correct, and unlike the pretender's biblical prophecy cannot
be pawned off to good luck, ar to good guessing,
or even to deliberate deceit. Neither Jack van Impi, how Lindsey,
or any of the other prophecy pumpits that become so
popular in the church. Today, we'll find out again over
(06:08):
and over again that they really don't know how to
read the Bible for all it's worth. And that's the
systemic problem. It's not just the false prophecy, but the
greater problem of not being able to interpret rightly the
word of God. A lot of you hanging on will
go right to the phone lines. First up today is Richard.
(06:28):
He's listening in Aurora, Colorado, listening on the web.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
Hi Richard, Hello, Hi, how kind of question for you?
How do you get around lost?
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Well, the answer to that question is that a lot
of people think you get around the problem of lust
with a magic bullet, and that simply is not true.
In fact, the tragedy today is that multitudes are saying
that righteousness can be achieved through deliverance rather than through disciples,
(07:00):
and therefore Christians who struggle with lust are said to
be possessed by the demon of lust, and deliverance is
said to be the key tomorrow and psychological redemption. Again,
that simply is false. If you want to deal with
these issues in your life, you have to embrace the
(07:21):
very spiritual disciplines that Jesus Christ modeled during his earthly sojourn.
In other words, we have to become christ Like, and
spiritual disciplines are in fact spiritual exercises. Just as the
physical disciplines of weightlifting and running promote strength and stamina,
(07:43):
so the spiritual disciplines promote righteousness. I like to quote
Tom Landry. He was one of my favorite NFL football coaches.
He coached for the Dallas Cowboys, and he used to say,
the job of a good football coach is to make
men do what they don't want to do in order
they can achieve what they've always wanted to achieve. And
Christians are called to do the same, to do what
(08:06):
they would naturally do, in other words, pursue spiritual discipline
so that they could be what they've always wanted to
be christ Like. The problem, therefore, for most contemporary Christians
is that a vast majority of them have never made
the transition from declaration to discipleship. I explain all of
(08:27):
this in my book The Covering, God's Plan to protect
you from evil that includes the world, the flesh, and
the Devil. The Covering can be found on the web
at equipped dot or back to the phone lines. Talk
to David and Louisville, Kentucky listening on the web.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
Hi David, Hey, Henk here are you today?
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Good? Thank you.
Speaker 4 (08:46):
I have a question about Andrew Womack. I read a
book of his called Grace the Power of the Gospel,
and I didn't notice it being all that was out
of kilter. But he made a comment that there are
many people are against his teaching and attack him, which
made me wonder if he's teaching some false teaching I
(09:07):
just haven't come in contact with yet.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Well, he's a classic Word of faith teacher. He teaches,
for example, that sickness occurs when people allow it in
their lives, either through rebellion or ignorance. The reality is
that sickness is part of a cursed creation, and therefore
we all get sick and eventually we all die. The
death rate is one per person. We're all going to
make it. So his Word of faith theology, which is
(09:32):
essentially that faith is a force. Words are the containers
of the force, and through the force of faith one
can create their own reality. Is not only flawed, not
only unbiblical, but is decidedly dangerous.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
Also, there's somebody else that I've read a few books
on one or if he is in the same vein
as Joseph Prince.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Yeah, Joseph Prince, another false teacher who embraces the word
of faith theology. In fact, I listened to a whole
a message by Joseph Prince, which was a very painful
thing to do. He was talking about communion and how
by taking communion over and over again as many times
as you have to a day, a week, a month,
(10:13):
you can create healing in your own body. It was
a pathetic twisting of scripture. And I've often talked about
his word of faith fallacies, but when I listened to
that sermon, I was horrified by his twisting a scripture.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
So are these just two people that I should just
pretty much stay away from their teaching?
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Oh? Absolutely yes, Oki Doki. Well, and this is not
about attacking them. I mean this is the old thing.
They turned this into an attack, and it's not an
attack at all. If you have taylanol that is laced
with cyanide on store shelves and you don't warn people
about it, you are doing people a disservice. And what
(10:53):
they are doing is communicating spiritual cyanide over the airwaves.
Megadoses very very dangerous to people, and that's why we
warned people about their false teachings. We'll be right back
on the other side of the break with more answers
to your questions right here on the Bible answer Man broadcast.
Please stay tuned for that.

truth of the Gospel, equipping people to use their well
reasoned answers to always be ready to give an answer,

(15:31):
gentleness and with respect. Again, it's not to win an argument,
it is to win a person. Let's go back to
the phone lines. We'll talk next to Henry and Decatur, Illinois. Hi, Henry, Hello, Hey,
how are you.
Speaker 5 (15:44):
You know it's honor to speak with you.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
Here todayvening well likewise, I'm glad to talk to you
as well.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
Uh. My course is concern the Mark one and twenty three.
Uh huh, good individual, not a Christian be possessed by
some type of unclean spirit or demon or anything like
that today.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
Yeah, I mean that's what we give ourselves over too.
If we don't give ourselves over to our Father in heaven,
we give ourselves over to our Father, who is the devil,
who is a liar and a deceiver from the beginning.
So we only have two choices. Either we belong to
(16:30):
God or we belong to Satan. And therefore, in a
Christian worldview, a Christian cannot be demon possessed, but unbelievers
certainly can be possessed and continuously give themselves over more
and more to the faculties and the functions of Satan
(16:53):
in this world. And that's why it's so important to
be one who is a bearer of truth and reach
those who are now mired not only in sin, but
in the world, the flesh and the devil that promotes
sin in our life.
Speaker 5 (17:11):
Okay, you know, I'm an average reader of the world
of God, and you know I was under it from
my reading. You know, I thought it was just being well,
just because about fallen nature and the world's system. Is
that the same as being possessed.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
By in some sense it is? It's not our place
to try to figure out whether it's the world, the flesh,
or the devil. What our commission is is to put
on the full armor of God so that we can
take our stand against the principalities and powers of darkness,
and so that we can rescue those who are stuck
in the kingdom of evil and bring them into the
(17:54):
Kingdom of Light. I've written about this in a book
called The Covering God's Plan to Protect You from Evil.
Back to the phone lines, we'll talk next to Patty
in Blaine, Washington. Hi, Patty, I'm good. How are you not.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
That I have a question.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
I'm not sure where it is the scripture it says
the dead.
Speaker 6 (18:13):
No, nothing.
Speaker 5 (18:15):
Does this indicate, So.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
No, it doesn't. You can't take Ecclesiastes out of context
to mean that death can refer to three things. Biblically,
it can refer to the separation of spirit and body,
in other words, physical death. It can also refer to
our fallen state. In Adam, we're dead in trespasses and
sin is delineated by Paul in Ephesians chapter two. That's
(18:40):
spiritual death. And also it can refer to ultimate judgment.
So words and phrases in the Bible are not unifical.
They're equivocal. They take on the meaning that the context
allows them to have. In fact, sleep is often used
as a metaphor for death in the scripture, Lazarus was dead.
According to the scripture, if you read John chapter eleven,
(19:03):
Jesus says he had fallen asleep. But again he's talking
about having died. Lazarus had died, and the idea of
soul sleep is that after the death of the body,
the human soul can no longer function without the body.
In a biblical worldview, we believe that absent from the body,
(19:24):
you can still function. The spirit does not have awareness,
it doesn't have location in space, but it does have awareness.
And therefore Jesus could say to the thief on the
cross today, you'll be with me in Paradise. Or Stephen
could say, Lord, Jesus received my spirit. Moses could appear
(19:45):
on the amount of transfiguration with Elijah, the martyred saints
in Revelation chapter six. Their souls can cry out how
long Lord, and Paul can say. And I think this
is a very poignant example in Philippians one where he says,
I am hard pressed from both directions, having the desire
to depart and be with Christ, for that is much better.
(20:06):
Why because home in the body means absent from the Lord.
Absent from the body means to be at home with
the Lord. Now that's not the ultimate. The ultimate will
come when the soul returns to the body at the
end of time, when Jesus appears the second time.
Speaker 6 (20:23):
So are they They're aware like we're aware.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Well, they're aware their inconscious relationship with the Lord. And
you see that described by Jesus himself and Luke chapter
sixteen where Lazarus where there's a rich man and a
beggar who's lying by his gate, and that beggar ends
up in Abraham's bosom or in paradise, so he's in
(20:49):
bliss while the rich man is in torment. So Jesus
lays that out very clearly as well.
Speaker 6 (20:56):
Okay, that helps.
Speaker 5 (20:58):
Thank you very much.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
You got to think so much for your call. I
want to go back to the phone lines talk to
James and Fresno, California. Hi, James, honk, I'm good her
are you?
Speaker 7 (21:08):
Thank you, sir. I'm doing okay.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (21:11):
I think my question was in regards to uh. You know,
I heard you talking a little while ago about demonism
and you know, the spirits and stuff, and and personally myself,
I don't believe that you can be someone can touch
you and put us and have a spirit put into you,
(21:31):
you know. And I don't know whether I'm wrong or
I think I'm right, but you know.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
No, you're absolutely right. I mean, this is superstition, and
it's unfortunate that too much of the church buys into
this kind of sensationalism, sophistry, selling in script torture. You're
absolutely right. I mean, this is not about a magic
worldview and someone can touch you and suddenly you have
a demon. If you give yourself over to the powers
(22:00):
of darkness, it is by your own volition, by your
own will, right.
Speaker 7 (22:06):
Right, And that's that's pretty much what I was thinking,
you know. You know, because of the faith that I
have in the Lord, you know, my strength is overcomes everything,
you know.
Speaker 2 (22:18):
Yeah, And it's unfortunate that we have a fascination with
demons in the culture at large, and that has now
led to a robust deliverance movement within evangelicalism. And you're
hard pressed to come up with a better scheme because
whatever the problem is, whether it's depression, anxiety, substance addiction,
(22:39):
even a runaway sexual appetite, there are these exorcism ministries
today that will happily claim expertise for dealing with the
problem and they give you a bonus. It's a value
added and that bonus is you are not morally responsible
for the most part. In dwelling, demons are responsible, and
getting rid of them is key tomorrow and psychological redemption.
(23:02):
So you could say the devil made me do it.
You go out and have an affair, and you can
say it wasn't me, it was the devil. The devil
made me do it. It's a terrible view of spiritual warfare.
In fact, I was so exercised over this at one
point that I sat down and wrote the covering God's
plan to protect you from evil, to give you the
principles of spiritual warfare from a biblical perspective.
Speaker 7 (23:25):
Okay, I pretty much understand what you're saying, and I
appreciate you. Know you're clarifying that for me.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
Well you got it. Thank you so much for your call.
Do remember once again that we write about these subjects,
and one of the places we write about these subjects
is the Christian Research Journal. You've heard a lot of
questions on today's broadcast about spiritual warfare. Well, we've tackled
it head on in the Christian Research Journal. Also my
(23:54):
book The Covering God's planned to protect you from evil.
It's an important book. If you put on the full
of God, you are invincible in spiritual warfare. If you
do not, you're a guaranteed casualty. Check them out on
the web at equipped dot org. I want to go
back to the phone lines. Talk to Stephanie in Omaha, Nebraska. Next.
Speaker 6 (24:15):
Hi, Stephanie, Hi, Hank, how are you doing.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
I'm good. How are you good?
Speaker 6 (24:19):
Thanks for taking my call. I really appreciate you and
your ministry.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
Thank you.
Speaker 6 (24:25):
I wanted to know if you know anything about the
ministry of Jettison Franklin.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
I'm Jensen. Yes.
Speaker 6 (24:33):
Is he a Word of Faith preacher.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
He has a lot of the trappings of Word of
Faith theology, and he's very unreliable in his way of
interpreting the Bible. And this is a hermoneutical issue, which
is to say, the art and science of Biblical interpretation.
We as Christians, and particularly Christian leaders, are called to
learn to mind the Bible for all its wealth. We're
(24:58):
called to read the Bible for all its worth. And
that is both an art and a science. It's a
science and that rules apply, and it's an art and
that the more you apply the rules, the better you
get at it. And therefore I think we do well
to listen to reliable teachers, and certainly in an age
in which there's so much nonsense being circulated in the
(25:19):
name of Christianity, we have to hone our discernment skills,
become so familiar with the truth that when counterfeits loom
on the horizon, we know it instantaneously.
Speaker 6 (25:28):
Absolutely well, thank you, I appreciate that you got to
Thank you so much for your call.
