Speaker 1 (00:05):
The countdown is on to fight time. This is Big
Fight Weekend. Now. Here is your host, DJ Leaves.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
All right, we have put to bend everything, Canelo Clawford,
We've moved on with our lives and we're.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Ready for another weekend. And it even has a unified
strawweight title.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Defense for Oscar Colazo coming this weekend, plus the undisputed
women's flyweight champion Gabriella Fondora in action on the same card.
We're ready to discuss those and a lot more. It
is the Big Fight Weekend Preview. I am the somewhat coherent,
somewhat capable host. He is our insider, much less grouchy
now later in the week because he actually got some

(00:45):
beauty rest. Hello Dan Rayphiel back aboard here for another weekend,
little lighter weekend, little little less on the magnitude scale,
but all yeah, but still we have interesting title fights,
We got lots of fight news and more to go over.
How are things as we're kind of settling back in
mid September, how are things?

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Things are good? I'm ready to go. Like I said,
I'm not at all disappointed at this. A little bit
of a lighter weekend. You need that after the chaos
of last week, which I enjoyed, but a little rest
and relaxation after the fact, although it will make me
think more about the New York Football Giants and how
horrendous so.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Well I did say to you, just while we digress
for one more moment, and then we'll get into the
boxing to go watch at least the fourth quarter of
the Giants Cowboys game and the overtime, which was absolutely
crazy while you were flying home from Vegas to Northern Virginia.
You at least have to take some consolation that the
Giants scored a bunch of points at a bunch of
yards and Russell Wilson, the rumors of his demise are

(01:45):
apparently exaggerated at the moment, at least for right now, he.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Looked pretty good. But I at least concede.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
That, yeah, I do. But it doesn't matter because at
the end of the day, not only did they lose
to go oh and too, they loss of the hated
Dallas Cowboys. And I'll tell you soon and fourth constantly
on my WhatsApp with Mauricio Suliman was a diehard Cowboys fan.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Hey that that may be one of like the five
Cowboy wins they get this year, so he's got to
rejoice with you.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Yeah, he was busting my chops pretty good when I
was probably, Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
All right, so there's a little NFL talk. We know
a lot of other stuff is going on, but we're
here to do the boxing. Thank you for finding us
on the podfeed, Apple, Spreaker, Spotify to subscribe. By the way,
I should say thank you to the audience. We did
have numerous more people. Thousands and thousands and thousands of

We know there's a bunch of you out there. We'll
take more of you. If you just recently discovered us,
can I is itdmonish a good word? Can I monish
the audience?

Speaker 3 (02:56):
Where have you been?

Speaker 1 (02:57):
If you just discovered us?

Speaker 2 (02:58):
My man Rayfiel's been promoted this like a maven every
chance he gets, everywhere he gets.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
So if you just.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Found us, I don't know what the deal is. We've
been doing this for over three years. My god, they
said it wouldn't last. I put up with him for
three years. Subscribe rate, Subscribe rate US, review Us, Apple, Spreaker, Spotify,
subscribe here on the podfeed.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Also find the YouTube page.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
We did have a bet Us YouTube show last week,
but again that was a one off for the massive event.
They may have us back Rayfield. They liked what we did.
We were doing it every Friday. We're no longer going
to be doing it every Friday. But for those of
you going, oh my god, I can't see, I can't
come to the YouTube page. We're doing all kinds of
unique content. We put some of the podcast stuff in

(03:43):
video form on the YouTube page. We also do unique
live stuff before and after fights and other things. Do
you want to go ahead and share with them this
stuff about the collecting cards, the boxing collecting cards.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
And the idea, I don't know if it's gonna.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
But you don't know that you have them yet, but
you have a you have an idea about a reveal.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
That's a fair thing.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
A reveal happens.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
If it happens, you need to be on the how's
that for a tease? You need to be on the
YouTube page because you never know when Big Dan is
gonna show up and have something cool to reveal, and
then you've got the opportunity to see it if you're
engaged on the YouTube page. So go there to the
Big Fight Weekend YouTube page, subscribe, be there, hit the
light button. And there's different content that's on this at

(04:25):
times that's different than the podfee. And there's stuff on
the podfeed that's not yet on the YouTube page that's
by design. All right, all the promos out of the way,
There is a doubleheader championship card from Golden Boy and
his own Indio, California. Oscar Colazzo, who we both find
entertaining a lot of people do, defending the WBOWBA strawweight

(04:46):
titles that he holds. I'd love to tell you I
know something. I don't even really know anything about Jason Vason.
You're gonna tell me more about that. And then Gabriella
Fundora is in the co feature defending her undisputed women's
flyweight titles. But Kalaso, first, what's up here? Is this
guy basing much of a threat?

Speaker 1 (05:04):
What do we know?

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Go ahead, well, listen as far as Colaso goes, he's
the first guy in a long time at least in
terms of in America anyway, for American boxing fans, that
you'd have a real reason to say I want to
watch the strawweight division. I mean, it's not a division
that gets a lot of love or has a lot
of activity in the United States. The predominant course of

(05:25):
the history of the weight class has been in Asia
and even in Latin America, but primarily been in Asia.
So there are one hundred five pounders. But I've always
maintained that if you're just like watching a fight on
your phone or your screen or your television or however
you take in and consume boxing matches, and you just
see two guys throwing punches, you know, it's hard to

(05:46):
tell like how big or small they are. Like you
might look at a guy that's a strawweight and think
he's a featherweight or a lightweight. It's just you can't
really tell. So I've never been like offended if it's
a guy that's small. If they make good fights, they
make good fights. And I'm here to tell you that
Oscar Colaso is one of the most exciting, fun entertaining
fighters in the ring in current boxing. Not to mention
the guy's got a tremendous personality if you listen to

(06:08):
him when he does his interviews, so you know, I've
been watching him since he turned pro. He's very exciting.
He's unified two of the titles. He is the actual
in my opinion, he's the legit champion of the division.
I was hopeful they'll be able to make further unification
fights because at that little weight class, without a lot
of star power, you know, that's the next best thing
is to, you know, just line up the other title holders.

(06:31):
And because he has Golden Boy behind him and they
bring a little bit of money to the table, some
of these other guys with belts might be able to
make a better purse to fight at Colaso coming here
to the States, or maybe going to Puerto Rico, where
he's from and doing a fight with him than fighting
for much less money somewhere else in the world. But
in any event, he is defending his title. He unified
the titles back at the end of last year on

(06:53):
the Latin Night in Saudi Arabia. He did a good
job in that fight, getting a knockout. Anyway, He's twelve
to zero with nine knockouts. A very fun fighter. To watch.
He's making a sixth I mean put it like this.
TJ's only he's twelve and zero, but he's already making
a six title defense.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
That's because he set the record right the fastest Puerto
Rican fighter to ever win a world title.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
It was what the fifth fight or the sixth fight?

Speaker 3 (07:13):
Yeah, so six six title defense coming up overall second
of the unified title because like I said, he defended
and unified two belts in November, and he defended it once,
you know, one defense since then, and so they matched
Himp with as you said, Jason Vason from the Philippines.
I'd be less than honest if I told you know
a whole lot about Jason Vason. He's got a nice record.

(07:34):
He's fourteen to one and one with eight knockouts. They're
about the same age. He's a year younger at twenty
seventies from the Philippines. This will be, for what it's worth,
his first time fighting as a professional outside of Asia.
He has won four fights in a row. But I
looked at them, and you know, he fought very low
level opposition. But just because I always say this, just
because he never heard of the guy, doesn't mean he's

(07:55):
no good. But Colaso is clearly to me anyway, the
class of this weight class moment. I would fully expect
to see Oscar Claso do his thing. But even if
he just goes in there and blast him out, that's
still exciting to watch because of the way he goes
about his business. He's not a guy that's gonna go
there and dance around and you know, eke out a
twelve round decision. It doesn't seem to me he's gonna
come at you and try to get you out of there. So,

(08:16):
you know, pound for pound, let's say Colaso is one
of the guys you want to watch in boxing. I mean,
I find him to be extremely entertaining. And then, like
I said, the personality is active.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
We love activity. That's the other big thing.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Because I'm going back to January of twenty twenty four
one two three four, fifth fifth fight now in basically
about eighteen months.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
He's also tj a guy that's willing to fight whoever.
I mean, he's a Puerto Rican fighter. He could probably
have fought at home in Puerto Rico and drawn a
nice crowd in his last fight that took place earlier
this year, he traveled to Mexico and fought the Mexican
and took great glee in being a Puerto Rican champion
to go in there and knock out the Mexican fighter.
Did it with a body shot against Edwin Canol was

(09:00):
a really good shot. So he's willing to travel obviously
if he fights this fight. You know, I wouldn't shock
met frankly if that if Vason was the crowd favored,
because Southern California at the Fantasy Springs in India where
this is taking place, you have probably a much better
chance of having Filipinos that you know, which has a
good population, a good community in Southern California compared to

(09:21):
say Puerto Ricans. It's not like this fight's taking place
in New York City or in Puerto Rico. But you know,
Clause is there to do the job. And hopefully if
he takes care of the business, he'll move on. And
I would hope that at the early part of next
year Golden Boy can can get him in another unification fight,
and then you know, that's the main event on this card.
You know, it's the only real action of the weekend
in terms of at the top level and then you

(09:42):
mentioned about Gabriella Fondora, also a tremendous You know, if
you like women's boxing, she's one of the most exciting
fighters on the women's side of the sport to watch.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Yeah, you have her.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
You had her as your twenty twenty four Female Fighter
of the Year for good reasons. And she shows a punch.
I mean she has gotten a couple of knockouts in
her in her recent past. We would again, we're just
honest with the audience. We would be lying to you.
If I know anything about Alexis Kubicki, who's the opponent,
you would think Fundorra. This is made for her to

(10:13):
look spectacular and to continue to rock on at flyway right.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
Well, I mean, so Fandora. She is sixteen to oh
eight knockouts, but she'd has shown power even though her
ratio is only fifty percent. But she definitely can get
her and she can put some hurt and punishment on
her opponents. She's making her fifth overall defense, her second
of the undisputed title. She's only twenty three years old.
They Golden Boy likes the promoter as the youngest of
the undisputed champions, and so and she is of course

(10:41):
the younger sister of Sebastian Fundora, who was the WBC's
Junior midleweight world champion. She'll be This is basically a
hometown fight for from her. She is from Coachella, California.
This is taking place in India. It's a hop, skip
and a jump, so she'll be the big crowd favorite.
I said this when they made this card, even though again,
even though they're not big name opponents. I like the
idea that you take two of the best fighters in

(11:02):
boxing in the smaller weight classes, one on the men's side,
one on the women's side, both unified in the case
of Gabrielle undisputed, and they put them on the same
show together. These are the real like stars, if you will,
of the smaller weight classes. And like you mentioned about,
her opponent is Alexis Kobiki, thirteen and woman two knockouts
from Canada. She wasn't the original opponent. She stepped in

(11:22):
for Eileen Grandino, who was not allowed. I guess she
didn't ever visa properly situated. But again it doesn't you know,
for most people, it's six and one half and done
the other. Whether she's fighting the one girl or the
other girl. Nobody really knows her cares. Frankly, it's really
the Fondora show to see if she's you know, doing
what she does. But in the case of the new opponent,

(11:43):
you know, it's not there's nothing changes in my estimation,
like if it's a harder fighter, an easier fight or
anything like that. You know, we'll see. I mean, the
the girl that she's fighting is not a power puncher.
She's thirteen and one with only two knockouts. But this
is about Colaso and Fondora disrespect to the opponents, and
you know they're expected to romp and even though we

(12:05):
all like to see competitive fights TJ, I'm also down
once in a while to seeze, you know, some some
good exciting you know, ass kickens.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
And this could be coming and maybe we'll.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
Get surprise and there'll be a good fight.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Will So that's the that's the best we have of
note right now.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
Coming on the weekend, there's plenty of news to go over,
including off of the Naotia in a way the monsters
win on the weekend. This was not unexpected, but now
it has been announced on what the date is and
where on his return Turkey. Al chic Is is involved.
Go ahead with the details of what they're doing officially
here right.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
Not a surprise. It's been expected all along that as
long as NOI in a way had come through the
fight that took place on Sunday against Akmadalia, that his
next assignment would be December twenty seventh in Riad, Saudi
Arabia in the headliner against David Allen Picasso. That is
exactly what is going to happen. It will headline, It
will headline that show, and they're calling it's a Ring

(13:02):
magazine sponsored show. It'll be on his own, but they're
calling it a Night of the Samurai because it's which
is cool that the the a sides if you will, are,
or at least the one side of each fight is
a Japanese fighter in a way of course, being the
biggest name in Japanese boxing. So he's the headliner defending
the undisputed title. And what I love about it is
number one Picasso is a pretty good contender. He is

(13:24):
coming off of a very questionable decision in the last fight.
It was a majority decision. He was kind of kind
of like, I won't say lucky, but got some good fortune.
Let's say in that particular fight he scored in a
majority decision in a ten rounder that took place back
in July, that took place in Las Vegas. In any event,
that's the opponent. So again, what's great about in a

(13:47):
way is that here you have one of the most
elite fighters in the whole sport pound for pound, at
worst number three, at best number one. You know, as
we've said many times, at the top of the sport.
Right now, it's NOI in a way, Terrence Crawford and
Alexander Usik in whatever order you choose to put them in,
but he's definitely in that elite company, and he is
an undisputed champion. He's undisputed, and he looked great against

(14:08):
akmadaiav in that one sided decision that he scored on Sunday,
And this fight was done even before that fight took place.
Obviously he had a win and come through with no injuries.
But here's the thing, it's your favorite, your favorite thing
about boxing, if that can happen, is activity. We talk
about it every show. Practically, this will be, in a
way's fourth fight of the year. Now they're not all
against big names, uh, but He did have the fight

(14:29):
in January where he beat the Korean fighter that was
the replacement because Sam Goodman, who was the mandatory had
suffered an injury. And he went in there and that was,
you know, a one sided fight against g Ye June.
Kimmy knocked him out in the fourth round. He came
back in May in Las Vegas against Ramon Cardenas at
the Timobil Arena, put on a tremendous fight, got up

(14:49):
off the deck, got.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
Knocked down early, got knocked down early again.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
There was some drama, and then he dropped Cardenas in
the seventh round, stopped them in the eighth round. That
was a super exciting fight. Then he went in the
ring on Sunday against mj Akmadaliev, the number one contender
by acclamation basically in the weight class. I think considered
easily the toughest fight that you could have made in
the division, and he basically made him look like didn't belong.
He ran him out of the ring, he didn't get

(15:14):
the knockout, and in a way, obviously is known for
the big punching power in the great body attack, but
he turned in a pristine boxing performance and he overmatched Akmindive.
I was shocked by I wasn't surprised that in a
way won the fight, but the fact that he was
able to do so in such easy fashion. He touched
him up constantly in the fight. Again, Akuendive showed a

(15:35):
good chin, but his face was certainly a little puffy
and then swollen up after the fight. So that was
a big win for him. That was a tremendous victory.
And so you know he's coming right back. That was
on September fourteenth. He's right back in the ring December
twenty seventh to close out a four fight year, and
he's scoring wins. He's keeping his record going, he's creating fans.
He's fighting in Japan, he's fighting in America, he's fighting

(15:56):
in Saudi Arabia. He's put a lot of money in
the bank. I mean, it's what you want to do
when you're you know, at the very top. So that's
big time. And here is the best part about it,
by the way, So that's the main event on the undercard.
You have the the fact that you have well in
the co features another world. I'll get to the other
fight in a minute that I want to talk about.
But the undercard fight, they have Canshiro Taraji, who's been

(16:18):
a tremendous champion for a very long time in Japanese
boxing and a world world champion who is coming off
of a loss. You know, he took you know, he
lost the uh he lost his title in the in
the flyweight division in that big upset that took place
in July against Sandival. So now he's moving up to
one hundred and fifteen pounds of junior band and weight
and he's taken on Willibaldo Garcia challenging for the IBF title.

(16:39):
So that that's a big time for him because he
had a chance to win a title and get another
weight class. Garcia was in a good fight when he
won the vacant belt. So that's the co feature, apparently
according to the artwork that that turkeyos Sheik posted on
his social media. But now the the the even more
exciting part is that in the third fight down below,
it's not a world title fight that who cares. They're
putting John to Knakatani on the same card as Noi

(17:02):
in a way, and obviously in this particular case, you
got Nakatani, who's the bandamweight champion he's moving up to
the one hundred and twenty two pound way class. He's invading,
if you will, the turf of his countryman. NOI in
a Way, And why would you say that is TJ
because this is the first step they're making the fight
next year between in a Way and Nakatani.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
As we like to say, this crap bank complicated. Sometimes
it's not hard to figure out in fact that Nakatani
was ringside for the Sunday night fight in Japan, and
that's not a coincidence either.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
Go ahead, well we talk about can we have nice things?
And if this comes to fruition, we will have nice things.
Because In a Way against Nakatani is one of the
most spectacular fights you can make in recent boxing times. Now,
I know I have said for me personally, my dream
fight would be Nakatani against Bam Rodriguez. But I'll take
Knakatani gets in a Way any day of the week.

(17:50):
That'll sell out the Tokyo Dome or wherever they put
that in Asia. They can probably do a big crowd
even in America on a fight like that. So na
Katani's on the show, he's taken on. Don't I don't
know uch about the opponent's taken on Sebastian Hernandez Reyes,
who was twenty and ozer not a world championship fight,
but the opponent has got twenty wins and eighteen knockouts
and no loss as a young Mexican, and so you know,

(18:13):
hopefully it's a test. But again to having in a
Way and na Katani on the same card, that is tantalizing,
that is tasty, that is exciting, Like hopefully if they
both come through with these fights, that that means that
in the earlier in the next fight, let's say say
first quarter or so of twenty twenty six, we will

(18:34):
see at the Tokyo Dome the mega fight between in
a Way and Nakatani, and that will be, by the way,
that'll be the biggest commercial fight in Japanese boxing history
in my opinion, that involves a Japanese fighter. I'm not
talking about like when they did a huge crowd for
Mike Tyson against Busbargers, two Americans. I'm talking about Japanese
versus Japanese major world championship.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
In Away did fight Luis Nari in the Tokyo Dome. Right,
He's had a recent big fight in the Tokyo.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
I mean, I'm talking. I'm talking. I'm talking Japan versus Japan.
Two reigning champions, one moving up and weight. I mean,
it's just such a such a how could it not
be good? You know what I'm saying? These are superb
offensive fighters, two very skilled boxers.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
In a way as a megastar, Nakatani has you know,
seen his star rise over the last several fights, just
as exciting as and also the thing I love that,
besides being super exciting, they're not fighting when guys are
old and shot like. These guys are still top level
champions in a way, is a pound for pound top
three guy. Honestly, Nakatani, if you want to put him
in your top ten, I can't even argue with that.

(19:39):
You want to put him at the lower part. He's
been drilling guys left and right, and he's been fighting
pretty decent opposition also, so he got all that going on,
and plus you got Taraji moving up and wait to
challenge for a title at junior bandawaight, and then you
look at the rest of the card. They got that
excellent prospect Hyata Hyatto, Sutsumi he's going to challenge James
Jazzed Dickens, who was the WBA's in term title holder

(20:01):
in the super featherweight one hundred and thirty pound junior
lightweight division. Obviously, they've been building to sue me up
for a bit and Dicken's, you know, was kind of
in the right place at the right time, you know,
And then they got a few other of their prospects
on the card. Also, that to me, And if Turkey
sticks to what he said by putting these Ring magazine cards,
it won't be a pay per view. It'll be regular
to Zone. So hopefully they'll stick to that promise and

(20:23):
it will not only be a deep card, but it
won't be a pay per view. So as a way
to close out the year, that's pretty damn good, I mean.
But again, I'm just overjoyed to see Nakata.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
As far as we know, I'm not looking to go
on for ten more minutes. This is going to be
a pay per view everywhere again? Or no, I just said.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
I just said. I just said. If they stick to
what Turkey has said, the Ring magazine cards are not payper.

Speaker 1 (20:47):
Are not Okay?

Speaker 3 (20:49):
Some people make the mistake that the Zone is you know,
Turkey said no more pay per view, but the Zone
still will do pay per views. So, but not necessarily
on a Turkey card. They're going to do pay per
view on a Frank War card, on a Mattroom card.
So when they do like Ben and You Bang two,
I'm pretty sure that's a pay.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
Per view, can I can I tell you it would
make more logical business sense that it is a pay
per view in Japan, where they still do pay per view,
because that's where the bulk of the big name fighters.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
It's not a pay per view.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
But for the rest of us in the world, why
would this be on on pay per view during the
day on December twenty seventh? Why would anybody watch even
with the monster that's.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
I mean, they put Moses e Tama against against Dylan
White as a pay per view In Japan, the way
that the NAWA fights are delivered are not pay per view.
They don't do pay per view in Japan. They put
it on a streaming service called Lomino. And this fight
card will be on Limino in Japan, but in America
and I think most of the rest of the world,
it'll be on Diszerne. Bottom line is if they stick
to what they claim, it won't cost you anything beyond

(21:44):
what you're normally like, Ok, the zone and that's finally
value for your subscription money.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
All right, good on that.

Speaker 2 (21:51):
One other thing on the business of this, and again
we're making mention of it because this is a good
time because the Naway fight was on the Facebook page
of Top Rank Boxing. I did see this where Bob
Aram gave an interview online and I want to credit correctly.
I think it was fight hub TV where he was
talking to them and the question was put to him
about this fight being on the streaming service and in

(22:13):
his words, I'm not going to do my aar impression
to make you laugh.

Speaker 1 (22:16):
In his words, they were.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
Trying to find an outlet to put it on, but
the pricing was too high to put the fight on,
so they went ahead and did it on the Facebook page.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
All right.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
Now, I did look at this earlier in the week.
I have not looked at it today. But Facebook will
allow you, if you allow it, to see how many
people have viewed a video, so that.

Speaker 1 (22:39):
Right the live stream says millions.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
Now, the first thing you need to understand when you
read on Facebook, that doesn't mean that they actually had millions,
because generally speaking, about half of what they show you
is what may or may not have seen it. Most
of the time, when you are scrolling past something with
your finger on your phone, if you scroll past it,
Facebook cance it as a view. Let me say again,

(23:02):
if you scroll past something, Facebook will count it as
a view. And they've done it forever. So that's not
to say that they had six million watching. There's no
way to know that for sure. It's probably much less
than that. Still, I would believe that it maybe had
a million watch or a couple.

Speaker 1 (23:19):
Maybe they didn't promost it well enough.

Speaker 3 (23:22):
Keep in mind that when they showed it on Facebook,
it wasn't a worldwide thing the Facebook availability because it
was geo blocked. In my right, it was available on
Facebook in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines. Okay,
so any totals that they would have, but don't be
only from those three.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
Times, all right.

Speaker 2 (23:39):
So then the reporter said to him, do you have
any update on a broadcast deal? And I thought this
was interesting too, where he voiced it and put it
out that he said, I'm not going to go into
it too much, but we've been talking to Peacock and NBC.
We've been talking to Stars, which is the pay channel,
about a possible series. But he had no further up

(23:59):
there except to say that obviously they have a lot.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
Of people that have been working on this.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
I am simply saying this as somebody you always love
to tell You've been doing this for twenty five years.
I've been in the broadcasting business on the national level
for going on about twenty five years now myself. If
we are sitting here in late September and they still
don't have a partner for October, then there's only one
of two explanations. Either one they are trying to get

(24:25):
a similar deal from what they had with ESPN where
all their production is covered and they get some kind
of rights fee or something like that.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
Or two.

Speaker 2 (24:33):
At this point, I think we can begin to criticize
they are reeling, they are stuck, and they don't have
an outlet. Otherwise, why are you letting months go by
where you're out of sight out of mind. I understand
if you're out of sight, out of mind because you're
on the verge of something bigger, and maybe you're gonna
roll it out in November and December.

Speaker 1 (24:55):
If that is the case.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
They should probably leave some breadcrumbs and say that because
now nobody's talking about any of their fighters or their
fights because they've been gone for about ninet days.

Speaker 1 (25:04):
All right, there you go.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
But the fact that no one's talking about them for
a couple of months is not a big deal. I mean,
they got a business to run, and I'm going to
tell you, the rumors of top ranks, to my eyes,
are greatly exaggerated. They just announced literally yesterday, the signing
of a top prospect. If you're going out of business,
you're not signing guys your life.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
I'm not saying. I'm not saying going out of business.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
No, I mean I'm not to have a regular I mean.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
They were a regular presence, obviously multi sometimes multiple times
in a month.

Speaker 1 (25:29):
They were a regular presence. And now they have no presence.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
And it is it's surprising to me that we're now
sitting here in September, when they knew earlier this year
that he has to protoll them it's over with well
that you can be different than me in that regard.
I am joking that I am taking that as a
sign that they didn't have all their ducks in a
row to get something going in October or November, or
it would already be there.

Speaker 3 (25:54):
It's all. It's all. It's always been voice to me
that if they were able to get a deal done,
and they claim they're talking to multiple people and think
there may be multiple deals, we'll see if that comes
to fruition is that maybe there'll be a couple of
things at the end of the year, but that it
was sort of always sort of pointed towards the early
part of next year. So if we're still having the
same conversation like January February, and then I would agree

(26:15):
with you. But until then, I don't even have to
wait that long.

Speaker 2 (26:19):
If we're having a conversation in November that they're nowhere
and they have no deal, then it is confirmed.

Speaker 1 (26:24):
It is confirmed.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
At that point they can't find a deal with anybody
that they want because they've had plenty of time to
work for.

Speaker 3 (26:32):
Bob mentioning stars and Peacock and Sutch those are the
same among the various things that he said to me
in conversations over the last couple of months, that's not
exactly it. And he also just there for like months.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
And one more thing and then we'll move on. He
also said, we're not necessarily beholden to just one outlet.
It maybe multiple outlets, and so that could be another thing.
But still, if you're a fan of one of the
premier outlets in America that's been having their fighters on TV,
and you're not there in all of August, you know,
all of September, and now it looks like for right

(27:07):
now they're not going to have anything for October unless
they suddenly announced something.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
That's how you understand that. But you know, they're doing
their job from the standpoint like it's it's hard to
get these deals done. So I'm not, you know, saying
it's not. But they're keeping their their fighters busy. They're
putting prospects on cards. They've got guys on Probox, they
put guys on the club shows in California. Obviously they
have like Abdullah Mason and uh, you know he's fighting
on the Read season card in November. Same with the

(27:32):
lightweight what was it, uh, welterweight fight, Brian Norman's on
that card. Uh, they have MICHAELA. Mayor.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
Fighters are plugging in elsewhere. Nobody's saying they're not pluted,
but they don't.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
They still got to do that, even if they don't
have their own shows. They got obviously Oshaki Foster the
junior lightweight title. He's defending his title on the Fundora card,
so they made they were able to work that out
with PBC. So their fighters are being busy. It just
we don't see them all together in a way. Just
at his fight. They just had Oscar Valdez do with
the fight at home on a ZANMFRA card in Mexico.

(28:04):
So they're doing their thing. Everybody just needs to take
a deep breath. It'll get worked out. I promise you,
all right.

Speaker 2 (28:10):
We shall sing, all right, Canello Crawford. I thought we
had moved past all.

Speaker 3 (28:14):
Of this, but you said that. I don't know why
that Netflix.

Speaker 2 (28:17):
Did announce here what their numbers are. And it is
interesting again how do you count viewers and people and
this and this is something else I can share on
after you reveal. All right, so reveal what Netflix has
revealed about how many people watched worldwide it was available
worldwide for the main event.

Speaker 3 (28:35):
Go ahead, Well, I'm gonna start with the full card
because it was a four bout full card. They claim
that globally it did seventeen point seven million for the
whole show. That's four four bouts, including you know, that
opening lightweight fight that would have put anybody asleep, you
know whatever. But so that's still a pretty big number.
And then you get to the main event, they say

(28:55):
live globally thirty six point six million, and then because
people are watching still on a delayed basis through the
rest of the weekend, which they count another four and
a half million, which brings their total what they claim
forty one point one million people. They say it's the
most viewed men's title fight of this century, which I
think it probably is now. Of those twenty of those

(29:16):
forty one million in change that they say watched it
on the service globally, over twenty million of those were
in the United States for the main event.

Speaker 1 (29:24):
Which you would do.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
Yeah, Plus they say another five hundred thousand or so
that we're out of home watching because this was available
Joe Hannen Promotions, which has done closed circuit for all
big fights and they've been doing them now for Netflix
for their biggest events also as well as for Dezonne.
They had this available in like twenty seven hundred bars
and restaurants, so you know, you go people don't necessarily

(29:46):
want to watch it on their phone or their TV.
They go out to have a beer, chicken, wings, whatever,
and they watch it in the big.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
Roun right, understood, all right, So we need a clarification
because they were talking about this with the Paul Tyson numbers.
And then this is also in because Netflix is under
scrutiny for those Christmas Day football games that they've done
the last couple of years and we'll do again this year,
because the other broadcasters are saying, wait a minute, your

(30:12):
methodology is not the same. So when you're saying people
and you have you have the info in fun of you,
we've got to be careful on how they're measuring people.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
Now. When they're measuring people and households, that's who separatest.

Speaker 2 (30:25):
That, okay, all right, So what they measured before was accounts.
When they talked about Paul and Tyson, they talked about accounts,
and we said at that time it's logical to say
that not just a single person is watching on each account.

Speaker 3 (30:40):
As a paper.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
And so then it got and then it got kind
of revised. So I wonder about the methodology here on
forty one million, is that accounts are we counting a
person and a half.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
How do we ever count a half person two and
a half people? What are we? What are we saying
for people? And uh, I'm fascinated to know that.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
So they didn't give a full Did they give a
breakdown and say forty one million people in that release
or is it accounts?

Speaker 1 (31:06):
That's what I would be curious to know.

Speaker 3 (31:08):
I believe it was forty one million people.

Speaker 2 (31:10):
Okay, which means if it's sin, you were saying seventeen
million for the whole card. So I would kind of
believe that's an average of like three people a household,
call at fifty million something like that.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
I mean, it's no.

Speaker 3 (31:21):
Different DJ than when they would do pay per view numbers.
You know, you buy the pay per view in your house,
one person's home, and if it's like Dala Hoya or
it's Mayweather or it's Canelo or it's some big, big fight,
most people are not just buying the paper even watching
them by themselves in their living room. They have a party,
they have friends over, neighbors over, you know that type

(31:42):
of thing. I mean, I when I when I would
not go to if I was well, I would go
to most of the pay per view fights in the government.
But on the rare occasion where I was home and
I was watching because I wasn't traveling, but I was
obvious still going to write, I'm probably one of the
only dorks in America that was buying the paper even
watching it literally by myself, you know what I mean,
because I didn't want to watch with anybody else. I
could have invited my neighbors over in this and that,

(32:03):
but I did. Most people are watching in a group
of people like I would go to fights, like I
remember I went to like Mayweather McGregor, for example, to
cover it. But I ordered the pay per view because
my wife was sort of interested and invited over like
friends and neighbors and like a little party, even though
I wasn't even here. So picture that at homes all

(32:23):
over the country. It's going to be a lot of people.
Suffice it to say, whatever it is, the fight between
Canelo and and Crawford did a very big number, certainly
a lot more than any fight you could think of
that was ever in the history of HBO or Showtime
or even on ESPN in its recent incarnation. You know,
the top ranked fights, you know, if they did a

(32:43):
big number I remember when when they kicked off the
deal in twenty seventeen with Many Paco, they had a
live Many Packyo Jeff forrnfight, not pay per view, live
in prime time on ESPN regular, not even ESPN two
or an alternate channel on regular ESPN. It did like
four million viewers or.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
Something, which is a large number for this era and
and how TV has declined. Okay, so one other interesting
note on this. Then we're going to move on the
on the minutia because again, let me.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
Just compare this real quick though. I said to forty
one point one million, which was mostly live, but then
through the weekend when they did the Tyson Jake Paul fight,
which was in November, that's a different level because it's
maybe not a world title fight, fine, but the names
of Tyson and j Paul were so much greater. So
just to put it in comparison, when they announced that,
they said it was watched in sixty million households worldwide,

(33:32):
one hundred and eight million viewers globally, peaking at sixty
five million concurrent streams.

Speaker 1 (33:38):
And I know people bigger.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
There were people that were saying that those numbers were
dubious and their methodology is dubious that it was not
that big. So there's been accusations of that. Now here's
a reference point. This is interesting. For Christmas Day last year,
for the NFL double heav header, Netflix announced this, this
is their own announcement, that they averaged right at thirty
one million people for the doubleheader. The chief Steelers game

(34:03):
drew thirty million. The Ravens Texans game actually drew thirty
one million.

Speaker 1 (34:08):
I have twenty six and a half.

Speaker 2 (34:10):
Twenty six and a half million of that was in
the United States, because again Netflix is global.

Speaker 1 (34:14):
So if I'm interesting.

Speaker 2 (34:16):
That Canelo and Quawford by their own methodology outdrew those
Christmas Day games for what it's worth.

Speaker 3 (34:21):
Now, if I'm not mistaken when they did the NFL games,
because there was questions about their methodology that for the
football games, they hired Nielsen to do the ratings. To
my knowledge, Nielsen had nothing to do with the connect.

Speaker 2 (34:34):
And so that's where some people are pushing back and
saying that's not a real number. In the same methodology,
here's the most measures everything else.

Speaker 3 (34:42):
Right, The bottom line is they did Tyson and Jake
Paul and they went back and did another boxing because
they liked the results whenever they were and they did
the They did the all women's card with Serrono and
Taylor three that took place in July that did about
from what their announcements were, about six million global viewers.
So there's a difference between.

Speaker 2 (35:01):
And by the way, I'm not doubting that they got
forty million people to watch that either live or even
on demand in the in the subsequent twenty four hours
or thirty six hours after the fight.

Speaker 3 (35:12):
When they did Tyson and Jake, the number they announced
the women's fight. That's why they made the caveat the
most viewed men's championship boxing in the rent because on
the Tyson undercard with Jake Paul, the second fight between
Katie Taylor and Toronto, which was the sensational, bloody battle
even better than maybe the first fight. They say it
was seen in nearly fifty million households by seventy five
million viewers, and then obviously it increased when they got

(35:34):
to the main event. But the main the proof in
the pudding is this, they did the Jake and Tyson
and they were happy with the results, so they invested
more money and did the all women's card that did
a nice number and they were still impressed even though
it only did only in quote marks six million, and
they came back and paid an enormous amount of money
to do the fight between Canelo and Terence Crawford, and

(35:56):
obviously I have to believe they're happy with the results overall,
even though they know the result of the fight. They've
also ponied up because they're doing the Kakamami exhibition hatch
between Jake and Gervonda Davis. They're going to have a
presence in boxing as long as they draw in a
decent amount of viewers for some bigger events, and that's
a good thing.

Speaker 2 (36:13):
Kkham Mami Paka Mami makes the pot. Well, we'll talk
more about that fight in a minute. One more loose
end to tie up. We did theorize on Sunday night.
I brought it up that an immediate rematch would be
fascinating with Mabilli and Martinez, and the WBC says they
want that immediate rematch.

Speaker 1 (36:31):
The Martinez camp wants that rematch.

Speaker 2 (36:33):
All right, what's the latest, Because that doesn't actually automatically
mean there will be a rematch go ahead.

Speaker 3 (36:38):
Well, what it means is that the two sides were
ordered to do the rematch. Obviously, they can't force anybody
to fight, but what they did do is see a
fantastic battle where Christian Mbilly and Less Martinez fought to
a galatious draw. It seemed to me like a legit draw.
I mean, I can't really find fault with the you know,
with with how close and first of all, there were
so many close rounds. The fact that it weren't out

(36:59):
of a draw isn't a shocker because you could score
any bunch of those rounds either which way. As it
turned out, one judge had it for Mobilly, one judge
hat of for Martinez, one judge had it. Even that
seemed very Legit was such a close, competitive fight. It
would have been kind of heartbreaking for anybody to lose
that fight. But by the draw, Mobility retains his interim title.
And when that was over, Lester Martinez this team immediately,

(37:19):
you know, a filed and appeal with the WBC. Now
they moved rather quickly, and it usually it takes at least,
you know, a week or whatever. But the fight was
on Saturday, and here we are, I think it was
on Wednesday of this week, where Mauricio Suliman announced that
they had put the vote to the Board of Governors
and they decided that the best course of action would
be to order them to do a rematch. So they
are in their free negotiation period. I mean, obviously they're

(37:42):
going to have some time to rest and chill out on.
They're not expecting they get back in the ring and
fight next week or anything. But there'll be a countdown
at some point where they have to, you know, have
a deadline to make a deal or they'll call a
pur spid. And if you know Lesser Martinez de Side
wants to rematch, they wouldn't ask for it. And we'll
see if Mabilly decides to take it if it'll be
another tremendous fight. I hope this time they make it

(38:02):
for twelve rounds, not the nonsense of a ten rounder
for an interim title. If he doesn't take the fight,
then it'll be stripped to the interim title and he
can go about his business and fight whoever. But that
was a great, great fight, a bona fide Fight of
the Year candidate. It will be on everybody's lists come
December when we start talking about the fights of the year.
I don't know if it's going to necessarily win, but
it was a superb action fight. I think when we

(38:24):
were going into Canelo Crawford, everybody that sort of knew
about anything to do with that fight figured that might
be the fight of the night, even if it wasn't
sexy names. And you know, it lived up to that that.
It's what I thought, and it turned out to be
even better than I thought. So you know, the rematch
is warranted. It was a draw. It was a great fight,
and you put them together and there's a reason I
think people will be excited if they do a second fight.

Speaker 2 (38:45):
All Right, stay tuned on whether Mobilly actually wants to
do that or not. Okay, you mentioned Jake Paul and
Gervonte Davis, which we have lampooned you like that word,
I know, and lampooned on the same podcast. Okay, it
naing in Atlanta, like they announced they did announce earlier
this week. It's now coming my way to the Sunshine

(39:05):
State of Florida and to Miami. All right, give me
a little more. I mean, obviously they were having a
problem getting it sanctioned in Georgia.

Speaker 1 (39:16):
That's obvious. So go ahead and fill in the.

Speaker 3 (39:18):
Rest, right, So the fight scheduled still the dates the
same on Netflix on November fourteenth, and they announced the
fight when they did, you know, however, many weeks ago,
that it would take place at the State Farm Arena
in Atlanta, which is actually a place where a tank
had fought previously and sold out. And so, okay, they're
doing that. And they had scheduled a two fight or
rather a two city media tour where they're going to

(39:39):
do a press conference in New York City followed up
by a second press convererce the next day that would
take place in Atlanta. Was supposed to be this week
and obviously did not happen. And then it was on
Wednesday of this week where they announced that the fight
would not take place at the State From Arena. They
would go and take the fight to Miami and do
it in the then you know, the arena where the

(39:59):
Miami play in. What is it called the the KISA Center.

Speaker 1 (40:03):
The correct, new name, new sponsor.

Speaker 2 (40:05):
Correct, used to be the American Airlines Arena.

Speaker 3 (40:09):
You know, so I covered like Felix Trinidad in that building. Anyway,
So now it's going to.

Speaker 2 (40:15):
Tell me about an eighteen nineteen thousand seed arena, not
unlike the Team Mobile arena, and.

Speaker 3 (40:18):
They'll probably sell it out. Whether it was instance, absolutely yeah,
problem so. But the interesting part of it was so
you asked, well, okay, why they move it? So it's
hard to it. Didn't really get a straight answer from
MVP about it when I inquired. But if you take
a look at some of the media, my old stomping
ground where I used to work, where I first started
as a boxing reporter at USA Today had a report

(40:40):
that an MVP had withdrawn their requests for the permits
and all the waivers they needed to do for the
event because they hadn't I guess, done the right stuff
or that they needed to do to get approval from
the Georgia Commission. And the person that is the executive
director of that body said in a quote to the
USA Today newspaper that they MVP was promoting something they

(41:03):
should not have been. So perhaps they were promoting something
before they had gotten all their ductionalized. Dot at T's
cross had yet to fill in the blanks on certain things,
not saying they did anything wrong, just that they hadn't
done anything that they hadn't done it maybe in the
right order in the method that the commission expected. Regardless,
they're clearly if you read some of the quotes from

(41:24):
the commissioner or from the executive director rather and some
quotes that were in an ESPN article from the Kisa Badarin,
who is the co founder and Jake's parter in MVP,
clearly they're like oil and water, and so they're gonna
go do this fight in Miami. They still are gonna
have to go through the same process because they still
haven't said. I assume they'll do this at the press conference,
because they've rescheduled that two city tour to take place

(41:46):
next week, one in New York, one in Miami, which
for fans that care, they are open and free to
the public to attend if you want to see the
show six pm and the Palladium in Manhattan on Monday,
and then on Tuesday at that Cassia Center in Miami's
like I said, six pm. And presumably when they get
there they'll announce the particulars like how many rounds I'm

(42:08):
told it's ten. They'll announce if there's any rule stipulations,
any changes and he tweaks. They have to address the
weight situation and that's what we're waiting for. If you
care about the event in the first place.

Speaker 2 (42:19):
Yes, if you care, And I've already used farcicle previously
on all of this, and you can read into all
of that that the Georgia Commission likely was not going
to approve this.

Speaker 1 (42:29):
Otherwise I'm not stuck to their plan.

Speaker 2 (42:32):
They would have stuck to their plan on where they
wanted to fight, but they had not gotten approval, and
I think they believe, I mean, it's incumbent on them
to tell us what the truth is. If you want
to tell us the truth, did you talk to them?
Because let me give you an example. If I remember
this correctly, I believe Antonio Tarvar was going to fight
on the undercard of the MVP show during the pandemic

(42:52):
craziness in Atlanta and in Georgia, and the Georgia Commission said, no,
we're not going to let him fight because he's been
out of the ring too long and the age disparity
from who he's fighting. We're not gonna let it happen.
So they've been stringing in the past. I can't speak
to over and over again on you've got to follow
certain guidelines and maybe part of that I'm speculating now

(43:14):
is the weight disparity is so great they are not
going to be able to overcome it.

Speaker 1 (43:17):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (43:18):
I don't really remember that situation with Tarbor. But the
bottom line is this, wherever they would try to do
this exhibition Florida, Georgia or anywhere else, you have to
address And again I'm not saying they're hiding it. I'm
sure they will address it when they do these news conferences.
I mean, I hope somebody in the media that's their asks.
But we all know Jake Paul is a two hundred
pound cruiser weight. That's right, bought it? Have you weigh

(43:40):
two twenty something against Tyson and Tank Davis is one
hundred and thirty five pound champion. So they are if
they're on their normal fighting weight, they're separated by one thing.

Speaker 1 (43:48):
For separated, particularly seventy pounds.

Speaker 3 (43:50):
They do a catch weight, they're separated by sixty five pounds.
That's like that's like half the strawweight, right, the strawweight.

Speaker 2 (43:57):
So they will have press conferences next week, it would appear,
and still it will still it will still be on
for November as far as we know.

Speaker 1 (44:05):
We'll keep it.

Speaker 2 (44:06):
One other note before we're out of here, and that
is Katie Taylor, off that win over Amanda Serrano, the
third win in the trilogy. She won all three fights,
has now said to the WBC that she is taking
some time off. They've named her the champion in recess.
And what does that mean for that title? At one
hundred and forty pounds, Dan.

Speaker 3 (44:26):
Raphael, Well, she's the undisputed champion and but at age
thirty nine, after some very vicious, brutal, hard fights against
Katie that Katie has had both with Serrano, with Chantel
Cameron and others, she's taken some time off to do
things in her personal life and whatever. And while she
says she still wants to have another fight, she's still
desperate to have a fight in a place called Croke Park,

(44:47):
which is the big stadium you know where she's from
in Ireland. She wants to do that desperately. We'll see
if they can pull that off, but for the time being,
they're not going to be able to force her back
into the ring. The WBC had previously ordered her to
make her dumb BBC mandatory, which I guess they were
next up in the rotation of mandatories, and that was
against the interim WBC champion, which is Chantell Cameron, who's

(45:08):
the former undisputed champion who has had two phenomenal fights
with Katie Taylor. She gave her the big upset in
Dublin in the first fight to defend the title ye
and then Katie came back in the immediate rematch and
won another similarly incredibly action packed, very close majority decision
to win the title in the rematch. So they had
ordered them because she had become the interim champion, to

(45:29):
do the third fight, and she apparently just you know not.
I don't think she's ducking Chantel Cameron. She just wanted
to do some other things and not necessarily fight under
the timeframe that they had proposed. So this is the
nice way of saying you're stripped of the title. But
caveat is if you decide to come back, so they're in.
What the in recess gives you the privilege to do

(45:50):
is if she decides to come back and she wants
to fight for the WBC title, she's next up. She
can cut the line. Basically, it's it's a show of
respect to a great champion. The Tally Klisco years ago
when he retired because of injury and had to cancel
a fight with Hassim Rockman, he was given the title
of a recess champion. He was out for almost four
years or so. He came back. In his first fight back,

(46:13):
he challenged Samuel Peter, who had become the WBC champion,
and he took him apart and won the title back. So,
if Katie Taylor decides to come back tomorrow, next year,
two years, whatever, whoever is the holder of the WBC
Women's title in the one hundred and forty pound weight class,
she can have next up in the meantime with that title,
you know, being vacated. Now, who's going to fill the title?

(46:34):
Obviously Chantel Cameron's the number one challenger and the interim champion,
so they have ordered Chantel Cameron to match up with
the former WBO Women's champion, which is Sandy Ryan, who
had two tremendous battles with Mikaela Meyer most recently. Obviously
one of the better women in that weight class. She's
going to be coming down, I guess, from welterweight to
fight at junior walter. Wait if this fight is finalized,

(46:55):
So Sandy Ryan against Chantel Cameron in women's boxing, especially
for the UK as a very n fight to phill
what is now that title, And we'll see what Katie
does in the future. I hope she does. She's been
such a credit to boxing. She's been such a nice person,
such a great competitor, such a tremendous warrior. Now we
hope that when it's all said and done, before she
does hang him up for good, she gets her dream

(47:16):
to fight in that stadium in Ireland and put on
a big show for her fans.

Speaker 1 (47:19):
Yep, they've been wanting to make that happen.

Speaker 2 (47:21):
They're trying to make one of the Serrano fights happen,
and it didn't happen in there. From that, Okay, with that,
I think we have pretty well covered all of it again.
The Coalazzo main event for the Golden Boy Dezone show
is Saturday night in Indio, California, So we look forward
to that one. Gabriella Fundora defending her undisputed women's flyweight

(47:41):
title in the co feature will come off the weekend
recap that go over some news etc.

Speaker 1 (47:46):
Other than that. Are we ready for the weekend? I

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
