(00:49):
Listen to And Then They Were Goneon Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts,
Spotify and others. August twenty first, two thousand and nine, a young
mother wanted a night out. Twentyone year old Rosemarie Bly had two children
under the age of two. Rosestayed home with the kids while her husband,
(01:11):
whom she had just married in Februaryof that year, worked. Rose
told her husband that she was goingto go visit her cousin who lived near
their home in Saint Croix Falls,Wisconsin, but Rose never made it.
Her case received a fair amount oflocal attention, but not a lot of
clues, so eventually it faded fromthe public consciousness. That is until twelve
(01:34):
years later, when her family wasfacing another tragedy, the disappearance of her
niece Summer wells. When a persongoes missing, there's a special kind of
pain in the not knowing. Iwant to tell you the stories of those
who never came home today. Iwant to tell you the story of Rosemarie
bl I'm kinda Gallagher, and thisis and then they were gone. Rosemarie
(01:59):
Bly was born in Grantsburg, Wisconsin, on September sixteenth, nineteen eighty seven,
to Candas Horror and Kenneth Bly.Kenneth actually usually went by the name
Jim, which his middle name wasJames. I know, it's like Jim
is not short for Kenneth, soanyway. Jim had two children prior to
his marriage to Candice, a daughternamed Kathleen and a son named Kenneth.
(02:23):
Jim married his first wife in nineteenfifty eight, and they divorced in nineteen
seventy two on grounds of cruelty. The couple had lived in Connecticut, but
Jim eventually made his way to Galveston, Texas, and that's where he met
Candas. Horror. Now, Candiceis Summer Wells's grandma, and if you
(02:46):
recall from Summer's story, she wasthere that day and she and Candice Summer's
mom and Candas we're all planting flowersshortly before her disappearance. All right,
so we've got Ken Jim m.Yeah, then his son Ken Yeah.
Then we have Candice well and herdaughter Candy. Yeah. No, So
(03:08):
the funny thing is is that soyes, uh, Kenneth and his son
Kenneth has he has the daughter namedKathleen. His first wife's name is Kathleen.
Oh and then I need to chart. I can't see it. Okay,
So the first two kids, Jim'sfirst two kids, don't come into
this, so we don't need toworry about them. Ken Jim, Yeah,
(03:30):
Ken Jim. Um. But yeah, So after that first marriage,
Ken Jim met Candice. Now hewas significantly older than Candice by about twenty
six years. Yikes, yeah, twenty six Yeah. The two married in
Galveston, Texas in nineteen eighty one. When Kenneth was forty five and Candice
(03:53):
was just nineteen. We you andI both became parents in twenty seven.
Yeah, I know, I know, I know. The couple had three
daughters, starting with Candice, soSummer's mom. Candas is the oldest daughter,
and she was born eleven months afterthey got married. And that's the
(04:16):
thing. So originally I was like, oh, Candice, you know,
it must have been like a shotgunwedding, but it doesn't appear that that
was the case. Oh. Candaswas followed by Jeanie and Rose, whom
he called Rosie. The family wasstill in Texas when Candice was born,
but at some point they ended upmoving to Gransburg, Wisconsin. I don't
(04:40):
have a lot of information about theirmarriage, but you know, there have
been rumors, actually interestingly that Candice, like Grandma Candace, was abusive toward
him, but I don't, youknow, I don't know. That's just
literally internet rumor. It is notbased on police reports or anything like that.
(05:01):
In any case, they did divorcewhen the three girls were in high
school, which was basically, like, you know, sometime in the midnight,
early to mid nineties is what itsounds like. Allegedly, Cantus actually
left Jim for a woman and didn'thave any contact with any of her children
(05:24):
for several years. I couldn't finda record of their divorce for some reason,
I could. I found the recordof his first divorce. I couldn't
find a record of this divorce, but I did find a record of Cantus
living in Las Vegas in nineteen ninetysix. So I'm guessing that's, you
know, kind of what happened andwhere she took off to for a while.
(05:45):
So this is Grandma. Grandma wrotefrom summer Wells, right, Okay,
So the three girls stayed in Grantsburgwith their father, and Rose attended
Grandsburg High School, where she navigatedbeing a teenager without her mother.
