Speaker 1 (00:00):
Big reveal. Big reveal. I'm growing a beard. So it's
been quite a while since my last episode, and the
main reason for that is that this episode is about beards,
so I thought it would be quite fitting if I
try and grow my own beard for this episode, and
that's what I've been doing. And even though it is
coming along nicely, I don't feel I'm quite there yet.
I feel like it's in between the stage of stubble
(00:22):
and full on beard. It's still at that itchy stage.
It feels like I'm wearing a itchy Christmas jumper on
my face. And experts say that this itchy phase lasts
between two to four weeks, and I'd say I'm around
the three week period at the moment, so hopefully it
won't last too long. I'm in a Noman's land at
(00:43):
the moment of itchy despur and it's making me quite fragile.
But the main question I'm asking today is why do
we like beards? I think the beard can benefit a
man in many different ways, and we're going to go
through some of them right now. Reason one, some of
the coolest people in the world have beards, and it's
(01:04):
almost like it's a part of them because it is
a part of them. But you know what I mean,
it's almost like it's an internal part of them, like
it's part of the personality. Chuck Norris, for example, he
has a mighty beard that no razor on earth could
ever defeat. And I'm actually betting there's a meme out
there somewhere for that, And if there isn't, I'm gonna
make one up right now. Chuck's beard doesn't fear raisers.
(01:27):
Raisers beard Chuck's beard. And then we have Gandalf the
Wizard from the Lord of the Rings and Dumbledore from
Harry Potter, whose beards project wisdom and a lack of
a trimmer and a possible disregard for hygiene. And then,
of course, we have arguably the most famous beard in
all of existence, Santa's Beard. I'd say Santa's beard also
projects wisdom and a kind of kind hurted warmth about it,
(01:49):
but it also projects fear, fear that he knows if
you've been naughty or nice. It's a beard that commands authority,
a beard that commands just and a beard that commands
to be hoovered from cookie crumbs. I'm going too far
with this. And then of course, we had the bearded
woman from the Greatest show Man showing that the beard,
(02:10):
the mighty beard, knows no gender. So so far we've
only covered cool people who have beers. We've not actually
got into the nitty gritty. We've not actually talked about
why people actually like beards. Some people associaped beers with
sexual maturity, which gives you a manly, more rugged look,
and beards can make you look mature and wise and
show off your rebellious side. All these are traits that
(02:31):
I think you'll agree. I have someone at the door.
A beard can also create more structure to your face
and cover up any imperfections that you may feel that
you have, like a softer jawline or a double chin,
or maybe just maybe you don't like shaving, maybe you
find it a hassle, like myself. And when I actually shave,
(02:53):
I actually get told off by my wife who thinks
that I've made a mess, a mess that I can't
see with my own two eyes, but she could see
from lower for orbit. And I'm also kind of curious
how long I can actually get it. It's kind of
like a challenge. Now I have had it longer than
this in the past, and then I came to trim it,
and I slipped up and I ended up going too far,
(03:16):
so I had like a lot of skin showing here
and a big, bushy beard on the other side. So
in the end, I just trimmed it all off, and
I never really bothered after that. I never tried it
again until now, and I couldn't help feeling a little
bit defeated that I'd actually slipped up and I had
to shave it all off. I'd really worked hard trying
to grow that beard. I mean, all right, I'd worked
hard at being lazy at not shaving, but it still
(03:38):
worked hard at being lazy. But no matter how many
good reasons are to actually have a beard, it doesn't
stop some people from absolutely hating them. First of all,
this hygienes. Some people don't like beers because they believe
they are just on hygienic as you can get little
bits of food debris in there, and they believe it's
a breathing ground for germs. But I don't believe that
(04:06):
beard's on eygenic. I believe it's a person who is
on igenic. And if the person is on igenic, then
you're going to have a non igenic beard. But if
the person is clean, then you're gonna have a clean beard.
It's as simple as that. For me, when I think
of a dirty beard, I think of the twits from Rodell,
or maybe that special someone in your life doesn't like
(04:27):
the feel of your beard when it's mixing time. And
then there's some people who believe that beards project suspicion,
like the man behind the beard is hiding something, He's
keeping something concealed, something secret. But why do I like
a beard? Why do I want to grow a beard?
I think the main reason is for me personally, is
(04:47):
because I've got nothing on the top of my head,
and there's a very sillm chance of me actually growing
anything on the top of my head. So it would
come in andy to have her at least somewhere on
my face, which would avoid me looking like a boy
old egg. So going a beard, for me, it's probably
a good thing. It might give me a little bit
more character maybe, and once again I'll remember how it
(05:08):
feels to actually use a comb, even if it is
on my face.
