Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, you guys, welcome back to the show.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Now we get into the part of the show that
I always love, and now it's sitting down with a
very special guest and digging a little bit more into
their professional journey and how their journey can help us
on our own professional journeys. For that, we'd like to
welcome again CEO, founder of Simplified COO and author, philanthropist
Kevin Willer. Kevin, thank you again for staying this long
(00:24):
in the show and now giving us this exclusive benev.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
We appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Oh, Deanner's fine, it's been great.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Now, Ken, we know that you were recently featured on
the cover of Modern Business magazine giving some insights for
business leaders in regards to how they can grow and
scale their their business. But now you have a new
books that that's just dropped for pre order on your website,
Kevin Willer dot over those you guys share where where
it's at.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
And it's called Cultivating Community. It's a business leader's.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Guide to growth through giving that keyword growth through giving
tell us a little bit about the title of your
book and what we can expect.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
When we pick it up.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Yeah, Well, so for me, one of the passions you
spoke to is is giving back to others community, you know,
those in need in any way that I can. And
so I wanted to always think.
Speaker 4 (01:16):
About, you know, well, how do we actually you know,
make this happen on a more uh, you know, higher
magnitude level.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
And so I started bringing it into businesses.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
Because one of the things that my clients would ask
is what can we do for marketing that we haven't
already done, And that was you know, obviously, with that marketing,
you're going to bring in more clientele, customers, whatever they are,
and in that obviously there'll be a revenue increase if
(01:49):
you're doing a good job in company. So really it's
getting people through the door and into the seats, whether
it's seats at your restaurants, seats that you're metal or
dental office, seets that your insurance coming.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
It doesn't really matter what it is.
Speaker 5 (02:04):
It's if they're not in the business.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
And engaged in meeting and shaking hands with you. So
with that, rolling that into what was important to me,
I'm trying to think outside of the box ideas and
through time this is actually larger companies have done things
on a larger scale like Tom's, you know, like they
dedicate a pair of shoes to children and countries that
(02:30):
don't have shoes.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
For every pair of shoes you buy, that's the reciprocity.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
Obviously, then people want to be a part of something bigger.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
What I wanted to do with this book is expand
on the myriad.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
Of ideas that I had over time that were successful
to really bring it to smaller business leaders entrepreneurs to
get rolling.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
Management level you know that wants to try something different
in their.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
Division or their district, or their department, whatever that is
within that, I thought, let's expand on something like that,
on how do we give back to get.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
People engaged in our business?
Speaker 5 (03:08):
And that's kind of the.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
The overall premise to the book.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
I love that Kevin and I, you know, listening to
you speak, you know, I think we we we see
examples of this, I believe all the time. Just in
I would say, just in our inner circle and even
with our inner circle of networking, we see, we see
we see small examples of that, like when you say, hey,
you know, let me get through a couple of cofee.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Once did we take care for a couple of coffee?
Speaker 2 (03:33):
And you know, we buy somebody a cup of coffee
and then maybe we picked their brain to gain some insights.
But just that even that small act or gesture of kindness,
are even giving, can lead to so many positive things,
even in regards to just networking. So just being curtzy,
you know, sending somebody a a thank you card for
a thank you so much for you know, taking that
(03:55):
meeting with me, or even on the interview process, thank
you so much for having me on the interview. I
really look forward to raving you one day, joining your team,
those little acts of giving where you can see almost
an immediate result. So I'm very intrigued by how a
either a small business or even a corporation can take
(04:16):
that same principle apply it to their business model and
achieve even greater success. Now, you mentioned something in your
book that I thought was interesting, and I want to
I want to pick your brain on this and and
correct me if I'm wrong, because I maybe having.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
The stats off on this one. You mentioned that people.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Who practice giving are are four times more successful in
business than others, or something to that effect.
Speaker 5 (04:39):
What was that again, Yeah, You've nailed it.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
What that is is really that you're creating a culture
within and it doesn't really matter if.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
It's your own culture, you're just a one, you know,
one one employee type business entrepreneur. But starting that foundation
so when you do have the second third where a
team member join you, but it's also shifting that culture
or creating that culture within a business that's already you know,
(05:09):
doing okay or established. I mean I've gone into a
lot of companies with this idea.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
They actually have done.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
Well, but they've hit like a plateau and they're not
really sure what they could be doing different. And for me,
no matter what we're doing, yes, like you said, you
can have the single acts of kindness that just kind
of cultivates that. But there's also within all businesses there
is the community that surrounds them that needs to understand
(05:38):
that you stand for something more than just what your
product is, what your gift is, what your endeavor is.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Sure, you know you can be.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
The best at you know, selling cell phones, but they're
going to need to know if you're going to separate yourself,
what else do you care about? And so the way
I used to frame it to a lot of businessess
is okay, So there's you know, a restaurant on every
street corner. You know there are now, oh my god,
a dental office and every shopping complex. It's so, what
(06:11):
are you going to do other than just really offering
good service for someone to pass by three similar.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Businesses to get to yours?
Speaker 4 (06:21):
And what I found was a dynamic difference was having
a culture of reciprocity where you stood behind some other cause.
That cause should be aligned with not only the culture
that you want to develop within your business. So I mean,
it doesn't have to be you're just giving to everything.
You can find a cause that speaks to your culture,
(06:43):
but also your employees, because that's how you.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
Get a really nice team.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
More question, because I know for my generation and maybe
and for your generation, Kevin, you know we're very big
on giving and being a part of something. Are you
are at least supporting something with that has a bigger
purpose than just just the product? For the younger generation,
(07:08):
I could speak a little bit towards a younger generation,
but Shaye, maybe this is where you can come in
and kind of help us out. For your generation, Shaye,
do you do you feel that younger consumers are I'm
thoroughly concerned about being a part of companies are at
least engaging with products that that do give back to
the community.
Speaker 6 (07:30):
I think it probably varies from person to person, you know. Also,
like I'm twenty seven, so I mean, I don't know,
it really depends. I think it really varies from person
to person. You know, who has that discipline, that does
this desire, who really wants to become a part of
(07:50):
something and make a difference, kind of like Kevin. You know,
I think not everybody has that. So I think it
really depends and various from person to person as far
as younger people go, you know, so I think it
probably varies.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
I do think that one.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
Thing I would add is I think it is in everybody.
I think it's how do you pull it out of.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
Or how do they realize? I need so many people,
you know, from all different ages.
Speaker 5 (08:26):
It goes sounds like a great idea, But how would
I do that?
Speaker 3 (08:30):
Where would I start?
Speaker 6 (08:31):
Yeah, that's what I meant by like, does this person
has the discipline?
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Are they going to get up and do it?
Speaker 6 (08:39):
You know, like maybe they have causes like in their heart,
like yes, this is something I care about. But am
I going to go out and write a book? Am
I going to go out host an event? What am
I going to do?
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Kind of like what you said, like, how do I
do that? How do I make that difference? You know?
Do I have the discipline to do that?
Speaker 4 (09:00):
So yeah, and I think the first part is getting
the book, because the book speaks to even.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
If you're not a business leader, it would show you
a pathway of how you could start.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
I do believe that everyone has the potential to be
a leader.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
I think that they need some mentorship around it.
Speaker 5 (09:21):
I think they need some guidance.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
I think they need to see it demonstrated. And then
others have it just naturally, you know, in them. And
so what I wanted to touch on with this book
is again not only just large CEOs of companies, but
again just to that entrepreneur and maybe someone picks it
up that thinks they have more foresight into starting a business.
(09:45):
Because what I work with a lot of groups on
is starting a brand new business. I say, latch yourself
onto it cause it's important to you, because that's going
to be important later.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
And as you build.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
If it is a children's hospital, if it is the
Red Cross, you know, whatever that looks like to you,
Just throwing out some names. You'll want to wind that
into your own mission. People got their own mission statements.
It's just whether they're going to build it into a
larger one.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
And in my book, I even have.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
Some kind of worksheets for people to work through that
process of how would I start?
Speaker 3 (10:24):
What would that look like? So I agree with you, Shay,
I do understand.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
I'm here in a different age bracket to challenge.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
The you of You do have it in you.
Speaker 5 (10:37):
It is there.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
You do have the discipline. Discipline is there.
Speaker 4 (10:41):
It's whether you decide to open yourself up and run
with it. You know what's holding you back? What is
specifically stopping you from just.
Speaker 5 (10:52):
Running with it?
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Is it something somewhere said a long time ago.
Speaker 5 (10:55):
You got to let that go right.
Speaker 6 (10:58):
So, like, if I'm going to use an ex example,
a lot of people with disabilities and stuff, they have
a tendency to feel alone, Like am I the only
one who feels like this? But if you host an
event where people so like I have epilepsy, it's very controlled.
(11:20):
But people host events the Epilepsy Foundation, they host events
where people get together and they can interact and you know,
speak to each other. So that way, you know, you
could be making like huge differences for people also like
(11:40):
mentally in that aspects too. You know, I think people
can make more of a difference than they think if
they act upon that.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
You know, and you speak exactly to what we're talking about,
because cultivating the community it comes in so many different
ways undirected towards business leadership and how they can bring
their community together to rally around.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
Their business and that will bring revenue growth.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
But this is the win win win because it brings people.
The whole idea is bring people together, you know, bring
them together, let them know that there are causes that
are important.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
It could be the cause that they're actually dealing with.
Speaker 4 (12:22):
Which is when a great points to you when I
engage businesses in this if there is someone that feels
open to sharing what their challenges are, whatever that looks
like physical or mental, I'm like, let's rally around this person.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
You actually have a team member that's showing you what could.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
Be the thriving opportunity for your business when you're cultivating.
Speaker 5 (12:44):
Your community, and so you know, it's.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
It's of course making them feel safe space to share that,
but it is everything.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
Everything embraces the idea of cultivating your community.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
I love that too, because I I think with that
mindset to Kevin, it's it's I think it's it's it
could be reinvigorating, especially for.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
A business leader or.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Even a corporate head, to be able to attach their
core primary mission to an over an overlayth global issue
or something that's just close to their heart or close
to their employees' hearts, so as to revitalize that enthusiasm
for what they do.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
And then at the same and and so I feel.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Like, not only is it more lucrative for a business
to do it, I feel that it's more enjoyable and
so like it's kind of like there's a thing that
people say that you enjoy what you do, you love
what you do, money will come. And I think that
kind of speaks to that philosophy that if you're behind.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
Something that's so passionate, so beautiful, and.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
You enjoy that process, you are going to find yourself
being extremely successful in it.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
And so I love the fact that your book.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Explores that concept that and allows business leaders and and
those uh who have that ambition to to to navigate
through their own personal desires and find a mission to
attach themselves to so that they can achieve greater success.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
I think it's I think it's a phenomenally brilliant idea.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
Now, now, Kevin, I know that your book is going
to be available very soon, but we can now pre
order your.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Book on your website at Kevinmiller dot org.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
Yes, that's correct, Thank you.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
Awesome.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
Is there anything else that you can tell us about
the book that you know that we can maybe look
forward to? Another that you mentioned inside there was like
some just say infographs you mentioned there was like a
chart that people can use to kind of map out
their own success, you know, so that we.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
Can expect in the book.
Speaker 4 (14:47):
Yeah, there's kind of a workbook feel to portions of
the chapters, because I wanted to people to feel that
they could actually strategize around this if they wanted to.
I think, as your read through it conceptually, you know it,
I'm hoping, like you said, it invigor rates leaders, it
builds team morale, community, rallies around that business.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
But then we're all taking care of.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
Each other, you know, and so now it's it's full circle,
you know. And so again I got into a lot
of specifics within the book and some examples of things
that I've done before to try to get the juice
is flowing. There's some you know, workbook style to it
as well, but yeah, I mean, I think if nothing else,
(15:34):
my hope is that it is just a good read anyway,
and maybe it inspires just the leader to do something
on their own.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
If that's what touches their heart.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
Absolutely phenomena.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
That's that's super exciting, Tess, And thank you so much
for taking the time to share share with us about
the purpose of the book and and kind of how
it's going to benefit us as business leaders and those
who had that aspiration.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
I think it's the be an amazing read. Speaking personally as.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
As a professional who who center is my own company
and my own mission around callses that I'm very passionate about.
I actually am looking forward to reading the book because
you know, I can always definitely utilize some more insight,
and especially from someone like you who's been in the
gang for so long, You're you're gonna definitely walk away
(16:22):
with with more insight and more wisdom so as to
be more successful.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
So for those of you guys out and who are
wondering should I should I pick this up? You definitely
should pick this up. That's a guarantee, Kevin. Kevin definitely
knows what he's talking about.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
He's you know, hundreds of businesses, hundreds of business leaders,
either personally or even indirectly through his interviews. And so again, Kevin,
we were so excited to have you on the show today.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
Thank you so much for joining us.
Speaker 3 (16:45):
Oh, thank you.
Speaker 5 (16:46):
It's always great to spend time with you.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
We let you go, Kevin, Is there anything else that
you'd like to share with us? Any any any any
upcoming project?
Speaker 2 (16:54):
Anythink anything popping off in twenty twenty five?
Speaker 3 (16:57):
I don't know, gosh, you know, it's always there's alway
some fun going on. So to live, you know, I
I walk the walk, you know, much like you do yourself.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
And so I just finished, which some of you guys know,
Memorial Scare Climb where I raised money for the National
Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the Phoenix Children's Hospital. That I
have a climb to Mount Whitney. So you said, hey,
do you like to hight I'm going to climb Mount
Whitney to raise money for the acs PA. I believe
(17:30):
it is it's the prevention of cruelty to animals. So
that's you know, my next, and to follow up on that,
all the proceeds of this book actually go to the
Children's Hospital. So I really wanted to bring it full
circle and again, like I say, walk the walk.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
Absolutely, that's thank you for sharing that all the benefits
of this proceeds on Kevin's but vote to the Children's Hospital.
So thank you so much. I'm glad that you mentioned
that because I completely forgot about that, So I genuinely
appreciate you taking the time to mention that. I didn't
want to ask you this question. I know you're doing
the height to Mount Whitney.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
What date is that again?
Speaker 3 (18:09):
October twenty fourth.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
SOBRA twenty fourth, okay, And you're raising money for the
Animal abuse organization What was it called against?
Speaker 3 (18:18):
Correct? The ASPCA. Now the long title, we have to
google that one, but if you keep an eye out
on my website on social media, you know I'll have
a little more dig into that. But they do some
amazing work.
Speaker 4 (18:33):
Now, the reason why I picked that organization specifically is
this clim actually resonates with an old business partner.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
I had that suddenly passed away. It was a dear friend.
Speaker 4 (18:44):
I have a dedication to him in this book because
I always try to dragged in with me on all
my amazing projects, and unfortunately he passed early in life.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
We were going to climb out Whitney.
Speaker 4 (18:57):
Actually we started out to do that to raise money
for charity water several years ago.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
He didn't make it to the top.
Speaker 5 (19:05):
Felt bad about that, and I am.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
Going to go back up to the top to celebrate
him in an organization.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
That was near and dear to his or. He had
like eight nine.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
Dogs always running around his house that he had gotten
from shelters and other places where he saved them.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
So again, that takes a very special heart and a
very special person. Well, I wish you nothing but success
on that on that height. And what a beautiful, noble
cause to do that with your friend of mine, What
a what a great way to celebrate his life. I
do want to say this though, Kevin, as you go
out there, please don't take too many photos.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
We don't want you fall in.
Speaker 6 (19:50):
He might actually enjoy the experience, you know, you never
know he might wake up and.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
Be like, that was awesome.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
Let's do it again. You know, I'm a big.
Speaker 4 (19:59):
Didn't want to just bak it in and be present.
There's great beauty and being present. I do understand appreciating
seeing photos later, but you really live in the present
when you're soaking.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
It up and focusing on it.
Speaker 5 (20:12):
So yes, I won't be taking selfies or or.
Speaker 3 (20:15):
Too many photos they are.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
Just wait till you get to the top and then take,
you know, take you know, maybe a couple, you know,
just you know, tumbling down the mountains like like this.
I mean it could work.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
Yeah, could work now that I thought about it.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
You know, you should take pictures and fall and an
interview on CNN and then your story blows.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
Up even more.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
Okayeh, a basketball and throw it off or something.
Speaker 5 (20:47):
You know, I don't have to live in.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
Yeah, you'll be tumbling down like got.
Speaker 6 (20:51):
It, got it, got it?
Speaker 1 (21:00):
Figure out of here.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
With MBA goofy.
