Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome in to episode twelve of the Monday Recap podcast,
where we go through and chat through all the lad's
best bets from the week, as well as a few
of the feature races and of course the Blessed Bet
and the Harness Halo. We started the big summer of
racing this week the County's Cup of course, a couple
of other feature races coming out of that day as well,

(00:23):
and it did not disappoint. The day was absolutely outstanding.
The racing I thought was really even and it was
really exciting racing as well. Yeah, Pukakobe is such a
great track for that, It's got a big straight. The
track I felt played reasonably fair, although the inside did
maybe look a little touch off at different points throughout

(00:44):
the day they looked like there was a little bit
of a fast lane down the outside. But it made
for some very very exciting racing. So I'm going to
go through and review all the feature races and then
also a quick review of all the best bets from
the lads as well as the Harness Halo and Blessed Beat.
So we'll kick it off and we'll talk about the
Harness Halo and geez, I think this thing is cursed.

(01:06):
We're gonna have a chat to TB this week about
changing the name from the Harness Halo to something else
so we can maybe wash off a little bit of
the juju because we've had a really hard time of
it this year. We had stone cold this week, and unfortunately,
this horse just galloped away at the start and dan
our chips and it lost about thirty meters. And look,

(01:29):
this horse did catch up to them and ran on
okay and only was ended up beating maybe three or
four lengths. But yeah, just very disappointing to see this
horse opened at about two dollars seventy or two dollars
ninety and it got absolutely crunched in. So I think
there was a lot of money for this horse. The

(01:50):
TB did mentioned to us as well that there were
a lot of smart hunters diving into this horse, and
so we got the absolute overs for it. But it
just didn't come off. It just galloped at this and
done our chips. Unfortunately. The Blessed bet was a different story, however,
and it was Ted's turn to bring us one and
it was returned to conquer and it was a little
bit of a SHELDI I think we got a dollar

(02:12):
eighty out to two dollars twenty, so we got some
good value there. And I think it ended up closing
in about a dollar thirty on the tote or something
like that. Like it got absolutely smashed in and g
whiz did this horse run up to betting expectation? It
just jumped to the lead and it almost just didn't
get out of second gear, like it was just ambling

(02:32):
up to about the two hundred, and then when Widamupin
asked it for an effort, it just really kicked away
from them. And I don't even think he used the
whip at any point throughout the race. It was just
hands and heels ride. And this is a very very
good horse. It's going to be interesting to see what
they do with this horse, whether they give a little
bit of a break and then ship it straight off

(02:53):
to Ossie to go and take on. You know, I
think it holds a nomination for the Blue Diamond, and
you remember some of those other feature races. I know
David Allis is very keen on winning the Golden Slipper,
and you know, I don't want to go the early
crow on these horses because two year olds are so
temperamental and there's a big, big difference between the two
year olds in New Zealand matching up against the two

(03:14):
year olds in Australia. But here, giz, it would be
great to see a Kiwi horse run in you know
races like the Blue Diamond and then also the Golden
Slipper as well, so it'd be interesting to see what
happens to return to Conqueror. Of course he is not
eligible for the in Zibikiwi or the Karaka Millions being
an Australian horse and bought out of the Magic Millions,

(03:35):
but that's another option as well. I know they have
the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast in Australia and
they put up some big prize money for that as well,
so whether or not they go and have a crack
at that as well.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
But yeah, very.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Good to see another nice takl two year old coming out.
I know they spent a lot of money on this
horse and so it'll be good to see them. Yeah,
get get the cash right Over this season, we're doing
a calculation of the return and investment for both the
Blessed Bets and the Harness Halo, and we're basically putting

(04:08):
an imaginary one unit bet per week on both the
Harness Halo and the Blessed Bet, and then we do
the result minus the investment, which would give us our
total units of profit so far on the season. If
you backed the Blessed bet with one unit each week,
you would have twenty point four units of profit. So
the Blessed bet is absolutely flying. So if you had

(04:31):
an imaginary one hundred dollar bet every week, which is
the max bet for the Blessed Bet, you would have
two thousand and forty dollars profit on the Blessed Bet
so far, which is just outrageous. The Harness Halo, unfortunately,
is another story. Altogether, we are negative ten units of profit.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
The beauty of measuring these units of profit. Though.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
It is a long season and all we need is
a little bit of a streak. We need, too, three
winners in a row for the Harness Halo to get
us back to the profit. I know the faithful will
keep following us. The Harness lads can find some value
and they can find some winners, and I backed them
one hundred percent to get us out of this hole
over the next few weeks. Let's go through and do

(05:15):
a quick review of the best bets, and of course
we've covered off stone Cold, which was my harness best
bet of the week. It just galloped and gave us
no chance. The scanman's best bet this week was Timideo
and it was raced for. It was a horse called
Style Council. And look, this horse just got away well
from the standing start and almost got away too well

(05:36):
because it ended up having to sit parked, and then
it just sat parked for the whole trip and just
done way too much work. And I thought it was
really brave because it's stuck on really well right to
the line and it only ended up being beaten about
two or two and a half links, but it had
just done way too much work sitting parked to have
any shows. So that's a horse I'll follow Style Council.

(05:59):
I think i'll bet it again next up because if
it does get the right type of trip, we can
see this horse winning for sure. Markham's best bet was
at in the cargo race eight number eleven, Captain Starlight Man.
You can pretty much just put a line through this
one and just forget that it went around. It ended
up five back on the markers and it just never
seen clear air.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
At all.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
It just run up behind them and there was horses
tiring and going slowly in front of him and just
never ever had a chance or never ever had any
clear air. So Captain Starlight is another one. I think
we'll just follow. Next up. Fitzi's best bet was at
the Auckland Harness. It was a horse called Kiss and Run.
And yeah, look, this horse had a great trip in

(06:41):
the one one. It got away well from the standing star,
plucked into the one one and pretty much sat there
the whole way. I'm not sure if they maybe went
a little bit slowly and they sort of sprinted home,
but he really struggled to pick them up. Maybe just
not enough fitness on his side. Second up, so maybe
you know, we'll follow this horse third up. Right next

(07:05):
we'll go to the Goat's best bet, which was at
Wanganui Race to the Big Picture, and it just got
too far back this horse and never really got a
good crack at them, And about the three hundred, when
it was looking for a run up the inside, it
sort of had to check off heels and come around
them and come off a couple of horses, and that
was sort of like lost all of its momentum and
as it started to build up again the last one hundred,

(07:27):
it started making ground on them, but it was just
too little, too late, and it just yeah, just had
no chance from the position it was in. But the
big picture is one I think that will follow next
up as well, because if it gets the right run,
it's one that's going to be coming home strongly for sure,
and I think it could probably win next up with
the right run. The other one was Kemy's best bet,

(07:50):
which was Dottal, and this horse just got too far
back on a slow tempo and really just had no
chance to get into the race.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
I was actually on.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Course on the day and this horse looked to have
a lot more improvement in the coat as well, So
I wouldn't be surprised to see this horse winning in
its next start or two, because I think there's still
a bit more improvement to come. It still ran on
well Doddle, but yeah, just too far back on a
slow tempo. But I think we can follow this horse

(08:18):
for sure. It's a shame because I think were these
you know, pretty consistent runs it has, we're not going
to get the good sp but I think this horse
is gonna win one of its next two starts, for sure, Doddle.
And then we had my best bet, which was in
race nine and it was Jaffy and man, it was
going well. It was looking to come into the race nicely,

(08:40):
and it was sort of going for a gap between
the horse that was on the rail and the horse
that was won out. And for whatever reason, I think,
I'm not sure, I think it was either Joe Doyle
or Warren Kennedy, maybe they decided to not go for
that gap, and then they checked off heels and tried
to come around to the outside him, and that rarely

(09:01):
just done his momentum. I'm not one hundred percent sure
if Jaffe actually would have won that race from where
he was, but we'll never know because he lost all
that momentum and just never had a chance. But I'm
not going to drop Jaffe. I'm gonna follow Jaffe because
this is a very, very good horse, and I think, yeah,

(09:22):
with the right run in the race, we're going to
see him undisturbed, with a clear running in the straight,
I think he can really power home that last couple
of one hundred meters as well. And then of course
we had Matt Daddy's best bet. In the last at
Pukakoe was a horse called Cinnamon. It was in race
number ten, and ge was this horse was tough. It

(09:43):
sat outside the leader, albeit on a slow pace which
I think sort of suited the ones up front, but
it fought them off all the way to the line
and almost got the job done before the I don't
even know if actually had Aladdin Insane started the favorite.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
It started about seven dollars.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
Aladdin Sane was the favorite throughout the whole day and
Aladdin say picked it up right on the line. It
was funny because Cinnamon was actually called the winner across
the line and I was celebrating. I thought from where
I was sort of right in front of the finishing post,
but on a little bit of an angle, I thought
that it had got home and I'd sort of gone

(10:20):
the early crow as well. But also George Simon had
called it across the line as well. I took the
look at the photo as well, and to be fair,
I couldn't really split them, so I'm not sure what
photo they were looking at. And perhaps you know obviously
their photos that they get a much better quality than
the ones that you can see online. But yeah, I

(10:41):
couldn't split them, so very disappointing to see Cinnamon because
it was a ten dollars shot or eleven dollars shot
there from Matt Dally and he almost got the job done,
but he's just missed it there, So Cinnamon, I think
we can follow that one as well. Moving forward, right,
we're also doing the ROI for the best bets from
all the team as well, and let's take a look

(11:02):
through the leaderboard from the Best of BGP, so all
the lads and we're tracking, so we're basically doing an
imaginary one unit each way bet on all of the
lad's best bets every week and then we're tracking them
for the total season to see what their return on
investment is for the season. And no surprises, the great
Man Ted is leading the way eighteen point three nine

(11:24):
units of profit for Ted the Goat is snuck up
into second because he does love this time of the
year and it's nine point six units of profit on
the season, and Kemmy's has dropped down to third with
five point three units of profit. It's going to be
very interesting to see how we go over the summer
period between now and the Karaka Millions is when there's
going to be a huge amount of racing. It's going

(11:45):
to be interesting to see what happens with this leaderboard.
On that note as well, if you've been living under
a rock and you haven't seen the great Man, Ted
has decided to throw up throwing the towel for his
consistent North Island full preview run sheets for BGP. He's

(12:09):
been doing the BGP tips for about ten years and
in fact, Kimmy's and the BGP guys built an app
around getting out Ted's Ted's best bets for the North
Island meetings. So he's put in an absolute warhorse of
an effort to go for ten years for BGP in

(12:29):
about twenty years in total of doing these tip sheets,
and yeah, Ted just absolutely loves trying to get the
punters paid and find some money for the punters. It's
going to be a huge loss for us to see
Ted go. He is still going to be giving out
his best bets and odds runners each week as well,

(12:50):
which is really cool. So we're going to be able
to send them out and give them out to everyone
for all the North Island meetings, which is very cool.
But yeah, I guess for me and the whole team
at BGP. We you know, we thank Ted for his
service and you can see, you know, the amount of
you know, respect and love he has in the community.
When we put up a post, it gets you know,

(13:10):
over five hundred likes and hundreds and hundreds of comments
wishing wishing the great man.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
Well.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
So yeah from the BGP team, Yeah, thanks so much
Ted for all your work and everything that you've done
over the years.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
Mates, absolutely outstanding.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
Now we go into a review of some of the
future races over the weekend and we'll start off with
the Counties Cup and the BGP. Nemesis Neraus just checked our.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
Heads in on the weekend.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
It was unbelievable and it seems as though this horse
may you know, have just had a few niggles and
issues and they sort of backed off him and then
they've come back again and yeah, they've absolutely got the
chocolates and well done to the team forgetting this horse
right and being patient and you know, finally getting him

(13:56):
over the line. It's a shame, you know that we'd
at to throw on the towel after having a couple
of very very big punts on him and getting getting
rolled bold and asshold but yeah, very disappointing for me
to see as a punter on the weekend, but very
cool to see this horse get back on track and

(14:18):
get yeah, get the job done and get a nice
run for the team as well. So it to be
interesting to see what happens with this horse now and
if he continues to step up as as he goes
over more distance as well. It was a bit of
a crazy race as well, like going out of the
first straight Arby lost the rider just sort of over
the crossing there at Pukakoe and yeah, ended up inconvenience

(14:42):
in Cogneto and then a couple I think it's stable
made as well SVR. So it got pushed back a
little bit and so a few of them were pretty
hard done by. I thought the big race runs in
the race, like Kelly R. Farasher, I thought was huge.
Again she's on the way up and I think next
up over distance she is going to be a horse
to reckon with for sure.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
I thought Cognito was a huge run.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
After getting checked by the rider falling from from Arbi,
it lost probably a couple of links there and I
think Cogneto was right in the finish there as well,
So very impresses from Cognito.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
Odyssey I thought.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
Was really good as well, coming up the inside from
what was probably some inferior ground by that time of
the day. And I thought the Odyssey went huge. I
think replaced the runs between say Naraus and Odyssey, and
I think maybe the Odyssey could have won that race.
The other one I thought was huge was no compromise

(15:40):
under the huge weight. Most of the horses around him
carrying fifty three kilos and he was lumping around the
sixty kilos.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
There's no compromises.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
So consistent, he just tries as hard out Like you'd
love to own a horse on that that just tries
really hard. I wouldn't be surprised to see him pick
up a nice race between now and the end of
the sea. And because he's just so consistent, and you know,
if a couple of the other horses have an off day,
he's a horse that just doesn't seem to have one.
He just keeps fighting and trying and trying. Then we

(16:09):
move on to the County's Bowl and luber On, Gee,
where's this horse? Is an absolute star in the making.
She just sat behind the leaders and then the gaps
opened on the turn she got to the outside of
Babylon Berlin and she just sort of ambled up to
them and then had about the two hundred Joda or
pushed the button and she just sprinted away from them nicely.

(16:33):
She Yeah, she looks like a powerful and very very
good horse. Croachitty I thought, was really brave under the
big weight. And then we also can't take much away
from him at all. I think the sixty kilos maybe
was telling back to the weight for age I think
is going to suit him very well. Be very interesting
to see where he goes next. And then I thought

(16:54):
the other really nice runs in behind there as well,
Sacred Setona and Whitak again flashing very very late. They're
both going to be very competitive in the upcoming races
over the summer as well, and it's going to be
really interesting to see where all of these horses go,
you know, like Blueberon, Babylon Berlin, crow Chetty, Sacred Satona,
and Waitak. There's a plethora of options over the summer

(17:17):
period now as well, and it's going to be interesting
to see where they clash and what comes up as
we go as well. Next up was the Auckland Thoroughbred
breeders steaks and we covered off Jaffi. But gee whiz,
how good was La Creek.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
She was huge.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
She came from a very very long way back and
flew the last hundred. They've made a really smart move
by keeping this horse in Queensland to spell and then
bring her back and just swerve all the spring racing
where there was a lot of wet tracks and they
just completely missed it and saved her for the summer.
I think that was just outstanding. Yeah, horse management by

(17:55):
Katrina Alexander and the team. They're third up now going
into the Group one ten one hundred meter tab mile
down at Trantham. She's going to be very very hard
to beat, provided that they get a dry track down there.
So it'll be weather watch to see how that goes.
But the understanding is that's where she's going to the
sixteen hundred meters at Trentam, there was some huge runs

(18:17):
in behind. I thought lux Libertaz was huge and almost
got the job done after sitting behind the leaders and
then getting out and powering away and actually looked the
winner with about one hundred metes to go. Moretary Molly,
I think she came from last and I think she
actually ran past La Creek.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
And it was a very very.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
Big performance for her at the first time up against
the big guns. Hio sas Bomb is another horse that's
just becoming to be very very consistent and keeps running
big races. And then there was a bunch of other
runs as well and behind, and I think there's going
to be a stack of form to come out of
this race moving forward. So keep an eye out on

(18:57):
all of these horses that come out of this race,
because I'm not sure all of them will be going
to the Group one sixteen hundred meters, but you might
see some of these horses pop up in different races,
and I think there's going to be yeah, some yes,
some really big opportunities for some of these horses, and
I think we might find some value for some of
them as well. Right the events next up, we have

(19:18):
the Kraka Millions, and tickets are still available. I know
the tickets are selling very very quickly and this event
will sell out. There's only a cap of eight hundred
and fifty tickets and I think last time we checked
there was almost five hundred tickets already sold, or more
than five hundred tickets already sold. Of course, we're going
to have the Big Pundas Club on Karraka Millions Night

(19:39):
as well, so you can go to the BGP App
or check the BGP Socials to get these as well.
And then of course we also have tickets for Champions
Day for sale as well. It's going to be interesting
to see how big a crowd we can get there
for Champions Day. I know there's a lot of things
in the work for us to do different things and
get something going as well. For Champions Day, we're going

(20:03):
to be trying some different things and trying to get
some really exciting new endeavors underway for Champions Day as well.
So jump onto the BGP app all the BGP Socials,
get your tickets for the Clak of Millions, and then
get your tickets for Champions Day as well, because these
events will sell out. In addition to that as well,

(20:24):
we are going to do a live podcast from Allesley
for the Twilight Meeting, which is on the twelfth of December.
It's a Thursday evening, so if you want to come along,
we're going to be in the Winning Post bar. You
can come along, have a couple of Bears with the lads,
and of course we'll be trying to give out some
winners and find some value and find some winners on
the night as well. So that's the twelfth of December

(20:45):
at the Big Ee for the first of the twilight
meetings of this season, right. I actually did find a
black booker on the weekend as well, a horse called
Rosetown Princess, which was in the last behind Aladdinsane and Cinnamon,
and she's gone huge. In the last race of the day,
she was sort of three or four back on the

(21:05):
inside and she had to check off heels at about
the two hundred, and she basically came from the inside
running rail to four horses wide and then she powered
home and finished off really nicely. And I think in
the photo finished she only ended up beaten less than
half a length, maybe even a neck, and she performed

(21:27):
well above the twenty dollars starting price on this one.
And I think this is going to be one to
follow next up. So Rosetown Princess, put that one in
your black book and follow it next up in the
next couple of starts as well, because I think we're
going to see this one pick up a win and
hopefully the bookies missed it and hopefully we can Yeah,
hopefully we can get some good value around it next

(21:48):
time as well. Right, we're going to be doing the
podcast again this week. I think we're going to be
pretty busy now between now leading up to the Karaka
Millions as we tried to.

Speaker 2 (21:57):
Build in and build the momentum.

Speaker 1 (22:00):
Of course, we're going to be doing the podcast live
from the Winning Post on the twelfth of December at
Allesley Twilight Meeting. Come along and join us on the day.
Keep an eye out for the Best of BGP along
with the Friday Phillip. Don't forget to get your tickets
to all the events, the Karaka Millions and Champions Day,
and then comment your best bets every week for your
chance to win one hundred dollars free bet. Thanks for

(22:21):
joining us, Happy punting, and we'll see your back here
next week
