IBF for champion Tavin Farmer. Tavin, how are you doing it? It's

(00:45):
too ye, shouldn't to be truetime, That's what it is. I
always wonder when I see boxers drinkingher that just must be going for a
pest seventy two seconds. Actually no, it's just well form. No.
But would I do do it?I just do it Like there are a
certain amount of water you have todrink every day when you're in camp.

(01:06):
I just drink it boxes. Ikill my body, drink all day,
whether I'm in boxed or not boxing, all I drink in water. Are
you in Are you in America? At the minute. Yeah, with America.
Yeah, in Philly, Jersey,Oh, Jersey, Jersey. What's
the weather like at the minute oris it starting to heat up right now?

(01:29):
Hold on, let me take oneway. I'll tell you right now
it is. What's the weather rightnow? The weather right now? Fifty
five? Actually pretty cool? Seminarnice? Yeah. When are you going
to Ghana? And for for usnext fight? Tavern? Is that?
Are you gonna like base your shelfleurfor a few weeks before, probably like

(01:51):
two weeks ahead of town? Yeah, clamitized to the weather. Yeah,
you know, probably high humid,a lot of humidity and all that we
gotta get. You got a depthof that stuff. That no war zone
then for two weeks when you goright there. Huh, it's that no
war zone for two weeks before whenyou go right there. Yeah. Are

(02:12):
you playing the new map? Nah? Rebirth Yeah, Rebirth City. Yeah.
Yeah, I just I hit thenew map. It's so bad I
need for dance back. I actuallyI haven't played the game probably like six
months. And no way was thatbecause you weren't a lead. It were

(02:35):
taking too much of my time andI could have just I had to get
off of it. Yeah, getyou were getting pretty good. You were
getting good at one point, havingreal good. I was watching you on
your twitch as well. Actually,at one point I was watching your twitch.
You were playing, you were doingwell. Okay, Yeah I got
I got good, I got good. I lost this step. I lost
this step too. Yeah. Yeah, haven't talked to us a bit about

(02:57):
your your YouTube channel that you have. You have gone and kind of like,
yeah, all right, I wouldn'teven caught that sight. I can't
wait to see what he comes backor something like blogs in a while,

(03:19):
but I would just setting my cameraup yesterday. We need that. You
should be getting out the dog, huh, get all setting the blog,
haven't. I love blogs. Blogis fun. It's fun, but it
is a lot of work. Though. I've watched your YouTube videos and like
you were pranking your missus and thatI seem like I'm a stalker watching we

(03:44):
approach support though, Yeah, whatkind of stuff are you veryone on your
YouTube? I have to be honest, having a watch that. We was
doing a lot of couple stuff. We was doing a lot of U we
fixed up the house. Oh whatelse? She just walked in? We
we do we do all times though, whatever whatever comes to our mind,

(04:05):
and we just do it. It'sa lot of work though, like it's
like we don't want to just doit. We try to do it every
day, but it's definitely hard.I respect content creators because it's not easy.
Though. You've got the likes ofJake Paul and the youtubeers coming over
in the boxing and now you're gonnaover into our fields. You're trying to
take over the YouTube game or youhaven't, I will clearly come over here

(04:29):
because like nobody say that you haveto start, you have to be somewhere
we started. You can always putthe lanes if you want some. So,
so tell us about about this upcomingfight, haven't so, I'll ways
say, Kim, And as weknew you were going to be fighting soon,
it said that there was a fatannouncement common and then obviously the Mickey
Bay fight gets announced. It's inGhana and Akra and Ghana right, and
it's gonna be in felt like fortythousand. So tell us about about that

(04:50):
and how it came about. Well, Bicky, they called me out about
three or four months ago, andI've seen the I replied, I'm like,
oh, what's a good fight?Um. So from there, it's
just it's it's hard to say.We just went back and forth a while
and then afterward we're like, whywould we just pick about own fighting promoter?

(05:11):
Nobody was picked it up, sowe wouldn't buy it ourselves. Um.
We got involved with me Mickey bayum Seante dough Boy TV, and
we just decided to do the thingourselves. But I didn't end up in
Ghana. Um. Actually no,no, how did it adopt the Ganda?

(05:33):
Um? Actually the people that weconnected with there was there was They
did a few shows in Ghana.Um, and we already wanted to go
to the Motherlands and fight anyway.Um we can actually fight at a big
venue in front of forty fifty sixpeople and not just a ranger. Um.
Got is the boxing city to backfrom town whatever you want to call

(05:56):
it. And why not Yeah, because you're saying obviously like throughout history you
had Ali and stuff. He thoughthe fought him in Africa, And it
was always traditionally like if you're ifyou're if you want to be a world
champion in boxing, you should bethe champion of the world. You should
be fighting around the world. Butit seems somewhere along the way, I
thought lost and people just wanted tofight in their own country, whether it

(06:17):
be America or Britain or Germany.People just got comfortable in their own country,
Like it's good to have boxers hereprepared to sort of travel anywhere in
the world to perform. Yeah, world Tippy, right, the world,
world alone? The world don't meanis that country champion is world TIPI though,
you know I've been there. Ithought an Australia. Um where the

(06:41):
fighting, Well I've been, buthey, I'll find the Africa though.
And I wanted to fight in theworld. I don't mind because it's a
sport I wouldn't be done all overthe world and not just in America.
What does mckei Bay bring the table, Havin in terms of this fight,
Uh, Vicky Bay, he didveterans. Um, he good box.

(07:01):
Um. I feel like I gota high i q um. He's just
all around the good fighter. Youknow, we can't sleep on Micky Bay.
Bicky Bay at one point was oneof the best of the world,
and I still think he's still sortof one of the best in the world.
It's just um, he has beenactive like myself. UM and move
about to show up made forty firstyou spoke and our kept eight. I'm

(07:27):
on go fears like you. Obviously, I'm fought in two years now,
Um, what's the longest period beforethat? Did you'd be nerd of the
ring? And do you think that'sgonna have an effect at all? Like
some people sort of don't believe inring roust some people before that the longest
period be for that, I can'tremember. I was the most active world
champion at the time out of girlshere boys, I was moved active world

(07:47):
champion four I defended. I foughtsix times in one year, I think
five or six times in one year, defended my belt four times short times.
I don't remember last time in theactive But there's how you could do
about that? You know, ahead, every guy go in there and figure
it out and Diddy, we're gonnasee if it's reversed the night. Well,

(08:09):
either way, I get the jobdone. But why is it that
like like getting in the mind ofa boxer. So obviously you do like
a lot of sparing um leading upand I know Sparn's different, but what
what is it that it doesn't getthe ring roster away from Sparn? Is
it it doesn't prepare you for thenerves on the night or is it?
Is it just different than they're onthe night. Oh, this is different

(08:31):
because if if you fight for alot of people. Um, I don't
know, okay, hit quick pointexactly what it is, but I know
that's definitely a difference. It's notthe same. I don't know exactly what
the reason, but I just knowit's not the same A spar the fight
is definitely not the same after twoyears, right as well, You're going

(08:52):
into forty thousand plus people there watchingit. I must be some bos must
be so exctic a men, Yeah, I mean I would they have for
the forty thousand Well, I don'tknow that. I don't think I'd never
fought for the forty thousand people.Um, a boxing town is gonna be
crazy. The last the biggest toour photo was twenty seven thousand. It

(09:13):
was Cannelo. I was the covidatedit on Cannelo car Um December of two
thousand, nineteen eighteen, eighteen eighteen, I think eighteen years. Twenty thousand
people and there was a lot ofpeople in the medical square garden, so
I can just imagine them for theforty thousand and like all boxing fans like,

(09:35):
it's gonna be crazy. I'm excitedyou're the main event. Yeah,
it may have been. I'm actuallypart of the promotions. Nice. Yeah,
that's gonna be unbelievable. What's themost before this because obviously the normal
person, the thought of getting infrom the forty thousand people, it's just
daunting. It would be absolutely terrifyinghad you had any fights leading up this,
obviously seeing certain effects like with Joano'carrell and stuff. He got off

(09:58):
the well, I did get onyour skin. I don't know if it
worked. Whoa I think I thinkJohn Carroll probably was the only one that
ever did it. Yeah, whywas that smart? I know? While
but he definitely was the only onethat probably ever did it. Um,

(10:18):
I don't know, bro, Idon't know why I let him do it,
but it happened. But yeah, you got a lot of respect for
for Donald Carle then, and youtook him right off there, like I
remember seeing the videos used to herquite close. Yeah yeah, yeah,
he actually was at my house andeverything after that. But he was actually
what kid, well he knocked outScott Quick. He was a kid with
me. Oh, serious. Yeah, yeah, yeah, go you look

(10:41):
right, he just he just leftkid with me. He was a kid
people for like probably two months.Yeah, I'm what so whatever you finke
mckibay here and you're gonna beat McBay. Right, what happens next? For
having farmer you put in the legwith a notice lightw division already on this

(11:03):
they've been on loaded that knew Iwas coming here, I was coming there.
Um what's next? We don't knowyet. Um, you know I'm
taking you know, I'm actually notsigning the promoter right now, so I'm
actually one of the promoters on thiscar, and moving forward, I will
be one of my own promoters. So let's see, you know, Um,
let's see what. Let's see whatdoors this fight opens up. And

(11:24):
if not, then we're gonna keepkicking down doors and keep making fights and
keep doing shows. Next show mightbe in Puerto Rico. Next show maybe
we don't know, but we're gonnakeeping and um, I'm just blessed and
being positioned about. I'm in abig shout out to everybody, the other
promoters that's on the car. LikeI said, me get bay um Baby
Brother Promotions, Um door Boy TVshante ej. We we did a hell

(11:48):
of a job. It's been aboutprobably two months getting to fight me.
But we gotta be Um. Everythinghad the big sense and everything make sense
and we're gonna go over there doorthings we have as I did a fight
in Ireland. That's what column columnis Sam here, this is the biggest
column is soon to be the biggestpromoter in Ireland. The only problem is

(12:09):
who exactly Tavin? Who's called thisguy? See this guy in the black?
I don't know where he is onyour screen, but he's only got
the one screen. I was goingto ask you, actually, is there
a possibility that you would say withsomeone like Addie Hern in the UK?

(12:31):
Is that we you know we workedagain already, Yeah yeah, but would
you would you work with him again? Um? Of course I'll work with
Eddie HRDs again, you know.Um, it'd be a different terms.
Um, it'll be a partnership.Um, if I ever work, if
I ever work with any promoter rightthere, it'll be a partnership. We
won't be just one sided. Um, even though I would take care of

(12:54):
very well. But I feel likeI'm at a different level of my life.
Um, as a fighter as ahuman. I'm bigger. I'm big.
I've been big of a business,but I'm big of a big businesses
out of boxing world. So Iwill I will partner with promoted that big
sens for me at this moment. How important is it in boxing to be
like have that business monumentality as well, because like you said, like it

(13:16):
is it's a short career and youneed to make your investments. And you've
obviously got a lot of things it'ssaid about as well. But the smartest
people that seemed to be in boxingare the ones that you said that maybe
they've got a promoter, but they'resort of they've got their own promotional company
as well. Like you see thelikes of may Weathers had Tavin hand Easement
doing that root as well, andnow you're doing it as well. As
that very important, I mean it'svery important. I think a lot of

(13:39):
fighters don't not knowledgeable on the thingsthat go on behind closed doors. So
it's not their fault, it's justnever tought it or never all the right
people to be taught um to thingslike that. So fighters, big promoters
big a lot of money off fighters. Um, you got you got TV
rights, Um, you've got sponsorships, you have the gates, you have

(14:01):
parking, you have liquor. It'sso much, so much revenue. The
fighters miss out on um that theydon't know about. I mean, it's
okay because you gotta make the markbefore you get even demand anything. You
know, you gotta you gotta besomebody before you get the band. These
things you just can't be at nobody. You got to bay all this because
somebody can just say both you,we're not working with you no more,
you know, but we get toa certain level, people respect you.

(14:22):
At that level. Tours though, you were able to at least get in
not what they get, but getin on what's bid mad, you know,
and you gotta have an impact onit as well. So like Man
BIGI Bay and all other motives,we all in on this fight, and
um, you know we we wewe we took it. We we we're

(14:43):
gonna make it happens. How toughwas it for you having like at the
start air Cranks. We spoke withboxers about this before and like in the
differences in other sports and like soccerand American football, basketball, things like
that, like they're they're they're inteam sports. That they're taught how to
take but their money. You know, they're giving financial advice, accountings,

(15:03):
whatever whatever else. With boxers, you're sort of throwing them the sharks,
like you're young and you get allthis money throwing out Yeah, when you
start doing well obviously, but isit hard to sort of handle out money
just sort of to know hardy andfasted to know what to do with it?
Are you just being flights sh atthe start to fighting? Whatever you
want it's about? For me?Was you speaking to doom is speaking generally?

(15:24):
What was your what was your experience? Like? Oh you you I
think as a fighter, especially youngfighters then you know they getting they getting
money young, and I can tellyou it's hard. It's not easy,
you know, getting money millions, hundreds of thousands and knowing what to do
with it. Like you say,all the other sports is the organization,
so they have agents and account Isthat all the fighters don't have these things?

(15:48):
That's why both fighters go broke? You know? Um, I feel
like somebody said taking this is himto start selling for fighters? Um not,
so what's gonna happen? But ifnot, people will continue? Fight
is gonna continue to go broke aftermaking so much money because you gotta do
what to do it. It's noteasy investing money. It's not easy to

(16:11):
get it and doing what to dowith it, it's not easy at all.
Yeah, I got everyone. That'sa few. Yeah you've got like
a car business? How many?Because I've seen that on your Instagram quite
a bit. Yeah, I actuallyfor the winner. I took him down,
you know for the weird time.I already do it, but I'm
about I'm about to restart. I'mabout to reopen it back up. Um

(16:32):
the weird time. You know, the weather be bad and you don't want
to keep getting a shortage, flamesand stuff like that. So that's so.
Um it did my truck and heafter this fight, Um, I
got you, bought some more trucksand just go from there. You've seen
you've seen the story about um afew months ago with the homeless mon.

(16:53):
Yeah, it's not something that's veryimportant to you. To ket Park as
well. Obviously you grew up fromhumble again instant you three right, Well,
I fear your south. It's notimportant. Well, I always like,
none of myself is never so caselike, I always get back to
people and help people out Um,it may not be the biggest all the
time, but it's definitely I definitelyhelp people out. Like, um,

(17:14):
it's hard to explain, but yeah, most of my stuff is not quote
quote on camera and stuff like that, but I do help a lot,
and I feel like, huh,I have a generous heart and I feel
like I feel like it's a UM. I feel like it's important to give
back. I mean, if youdon't, then I'm not knocking you because
nobody, oh, nobody anything inthis world. But if you do,
I feel like it's a plus.And I feel like if you're able to,

(17:36):
I feel like you should having beforebefore we're like echo. I just
want to touch on one thing. At one point of your career, probably
two three years ago, there wasa big talk of you fighting Thank Davis.
Why not happening? Business politics keepinghim away? Huh? How close
was it to happening? Never wasclose to happening. Ever was Ryan say

(18:00):
it close to happening? Hell? No? They called me, they said
yo, they called they called me, um. They called my manager and
he like, yo, we wantwe want t happling. Whatever. I
guess I forgot who wasn't from GoldenBoy and were like come fuck, yeah,
come on, yeah, they callit back, so that I wouldn't

(18:23):
say that was closed to happen.A lot of stuff in Bogu just be
taught nothing really be close to happen. Everything we talked something close to happen.
Send the contract is almost agree andthen it's falling up because of something
that's almost happening. But when youjust talk about it and it don't happen,
it's just it's just go, yeahit did. With that though,

(18:45):
when when you look at the bignames, I thought, I thought at
the like we at the face andobviously it's the sort of Markee we had.
Right now it's everyone's talking about it. There's so many, so many
big names. You're moving and they'renot as well. What what sort of
dream face? If y'all the pecttwo three surrounding on your bid R But
you're thinking that are the ones Ireally love? Um, you know,

(19:06):
I just want to get it.I just want to come to tape it
have. I gotta do it.I gotta do it that way. No
no particular person, um, no, no particular person who got the belt.
You've seen that the Cubans are likeI like to turn over um,
yeah, coming with a world up. Yeah, that's gonna take me.

(19:29):
Like Cubans been good amateurs. Therewasn't the best of the best of prose,
but you do gott to select fewthat was good, really good.
I feel like the boxing con changewith that, because I mean more people
more. More Cubans go pro younger, because most peoples go pro older,
so they're not able to they haveable to give the freest potentially to the
young Americans or to the young whoever, because they're much older. So the

(19:52):
skills pay them over for only butso long. But then they they're able
to turn professional. Oh my good, will they turn eighteen eighteen twenty?
Are they able to have a wholecareer? Is a rat? They go?
He go pick the box world up. And if if Cruise comes into
the like we have the vision, which many people think he will do,

(20:12):
there's obviously going to be a lotof people. Uh you know Cruise the
gold madlist. Did you see himat the last Olympics? And oh you
can keep up with boxes? Damnsort keep up with the Olympics. He
listen, respect everybody. I hadsixty able to fight, so I wasn't
really into the stuff. So inrespect to all Olympias, but I don't

(20:37):
know who Cruise is. What abottom the well he beat you know,
Keishaan Davis. I know he's gonnado. He beat He'd beat Keishawan in
the final. He's been him like, he's been him three or four times
now, and he's a lot ofpeople think one of the greatest maturs ever.
But he's not going to be turningover pro when the light we have
the bason I think, which hisart and word field the fire. I
was going to say, though, there's there'll be a lot of people,

(21:00):
like a lot of the champions whowould be maybe avoiding them. That's what
people are gonna think. You gota long way to go. Yeah,
listen, this is not This isnot the amages I always tell from um.
You always tell fight people that amateursis one thing and being a great
amateur you have but select few thatcould come and down with it. But
I don't think no amateur was asdominant as long Machine. Though. What

(21:25):
he do he come to the programand get beat by Sledo somebody with those
skills. Yeah, this is awhole different ball game. There's twelve rounds,
how many rounds amages. Yeah, great, Yeah, but d three
three minute rounds or four minutes andsome the Olympics. Yeah, three three

(21:48):
three three three minute rounds, soyou're doing three three minute rounds. But
if I don't math correctly, there'snine minutes, yeah, versus thirty six
minutes consistently, not dominic consistently thirtysix minutes consistent doing what rounds to take
off? Doing what rounds you gottapick back up. It's not the same

(22:11):
fall game. Now him if hebe if you get groomed the right way,
absolutely he could be dominant. Basedon what y'all saying. I've never
seen him fight, but based onwhat y'all say, he could be dominant.
But it's all about being groom properly. Why you think all these big
fighters come out and they fight thesepeople one and six, two and ten,

(22:32):
ten and three, five and four, fifteen and two one a while?
Because you got promoters, it doesbetter. It's like I don't um
I don't hate it to them. You got Eddie Herns, you got um
Lu Debella, you got top rank. These guys as professional batchmakers that know
how to build fighters, they knowit's not just look what happened with the
guy to beat the Core and theOlympics. He beat you court earth though,

(22:56):
what that is? Yeah, hebeats Course Stevenson. Lookis Olympus.
Lookuis the Correla And look with thisguy. The guy got the guy got
stopped. I think it laws hissecond pro fight. But he beats the
core. So this don't that ThatOlympus stuff don't mean nothing. Well THU
disrespect it means a lot. Butwill you push you too? That pro

(23:18):
game there's a whole different ball game. I just ain't got depend of what
champion he gets. Yeah that is, It's it's two, it's two completely
different sports. Like you've even seenthat. I hope I broke I hope
I brooked it down right. Thecompensator man shout not something you should look

(23:40):
at you. I thought about it. I feel like I'm very gligu about
the sport. Um I could breakthings down from different perspectives, from more
than one perspective. The only thingthat will stop me from bad competator is
if I became a competator, Iwould have to I have to start watching
boxing boards. I don't know ifI'm willing to study all these fighters because

(24:04):
to be a competition. You gottabe a student of the sport. But
you have to study these fighters, whether they no matter what which class,
you have to do who these fightersare. So when it comes time to
break up down, you know exactlywhat you're speaking about. And that's one
thing I may not be up forthem if I do. If I ever
did decide to become a competent,it'd be on a cages. It wouldn't

(24:27):
be would be like uh, andreWar, Timothy Brand. You know they
got to set job towards though theycompeted every fight. I don't think I
wanted to put it that work forthat. You know, so certain fighters
certain for certain fights I'd like,I like, I like this card,
let me go, let me gotake this card out our competitor. You
know, you'd be the pim perview punder. Yeah, that's what I

(24:49):
did. That is that is Ialways enjoy watching the fighters, like commented
like the like said that, SeanPorters, Paul EMLINLG. Timothe Broadly andre
Ward like, don't get me wrong, I commentated, zwe what is it?
I say? What about me?I just competentated this. This is

(25:10):
why we need you on because likelike I don't get me wrong, I
love listening to Max Callerman and likeyou're Larry merchants all all the creds,
but there's something about listening to anactual fighter who's able to describe what it's
like and nor and you know whothey're just breaking a down in a different
way they can he fighters. Whatdo you fighters as judges that competators?

(25:32):
Yeah? I agree that would youwould you do that? I'll be a
judge before um. The reason beingi'd be a judge. I'm a fair
person. I don't give with themabout don't you. I won't give with
them because my cousin or my brother, I may cheave my mother. But
yeah I'm black. Oh you lose, you lose. I'm gonna see how

(25:55):
I see I'm I I'm not.That's not how. So I'll be a
judge. I'll be a judge.Well, Tavin, thank you so much
for coming on. As I say, we're big fans, yeah, and
we're we're looking forward to come overand having a felly t stick. Hey

(26:41):
the plan. Tavin, thanks somuch for for coming on, and we'll
look forward to saying yea um takingover the light with the vision like you
said you're going to do. Sowe'll be we'll be watching this fat is
it available online teller the listeners wherethey can go byo w ww diet former
versus bay pe p p PV wasyour paper view dot com? And do

(27:03):

(27:25):
having farmer you get a better duskcount put there We're gonna see. Thank
you, thanks so much, Hey, thank y'all man, thank baby It
was a pleasure, you thought,Oh dude, zos um, but I

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
