Speaker 1 (00:05):
I'm Tom Ray. I'm promoting successful business experts connecting people
throughout the world from my podcast studio in Brazil. Joining
us today from London, England, Jake smallerrec the life and
business coach for winners, transforming you into extraordinary You. So, Jake,
how to start a business today with no money and
(00:26):
no experience? Hi?
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Tom, thank you very much for having me. You see
that this is a very good question because a lot
of people actually struggling with thats you know. And the
thing is, the idea is not a problem. There's the
thing called in business that we called it idation, which
means you're coming up with the list of different ideas
(00:49):
for your business. Ideally you would like to have some idea,
maybe a little bit of experience about those ideas. But
the process is very simple, right down ten twenty hopefully
maybe even thirty forty fifty ideas business ideas, because the
(01:11):
first ten ideas are easy, the next ten, so twenty
a little bit harder than another ten and another ten.
So coming got up to thirty forty fifty ideas is
actually not that easy. But more often than not, the
idea number twenty one and the idea number forty seven
combine could be an excellent idea, could be the one
(01:34):
to go right. And the thing is, once you come
up with fifty ideas, then you will try to deselect ones.
So you go from fifty to forty and then you
remove another ten. So you go from forty to thirty,
and then twenty, then ten.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
Then from those ten you choose three.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Right, from those three, you choose one and then you
go ahead with it.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
You see, and and to your point, you don't have
to have fifty ideas in one day or one hour.
It's as you have the ideas, just jot them down
one hundred percent.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
You know.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
It can take you an hour, it can take you
a week. It's all up to you, you know. But
the thing is you have to you have to actually
sit down and write it down when people say like, oh,
I have ideas in my heads. Unfortunately, we're living in
such a great times that it's very easy to start
a business. But at the same time, it's very easy
to be distracted, right, you know, we are bombarded with
(02:33):
like different advertisements everywhere, especially like I live in London,
so you go outside and you see adverts everywhere.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
It's so easy to be distracted.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
But that also that gives you ideas.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
That's true.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
But sometimes if you have too many ideas, if you
have too many distractions, it's very difficult to focus.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
So I agree because I'm also my ideas come. Some
of them come every morning. I go to the gym
and work out, and actually it's you know, on the
treadmill or doing things that I have ideas, and that's
really when my mind seems to be working better. And
then that's what I do. I just come back here
to my home studio and drop them down or look
something up. But it's an ongoing process.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
It is.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
But in this world we have something called fomo, you know,
the fears of missing out, and a lot of people
get into that trap that like, oh my god.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
I don't want to leave the money on the table.
But the truth is you will leave.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Money on the table because you cannot do You cannot
execute every single idea. You cannot, you know, start every
single business, start with one. That's why I always say,
you know, come up with a list of ideas.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Then choose one and then go ahead with it.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
And then what about the money. You say you want
to leave the money on the table, But if I
have a table, and I don't have money.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Well, the thing is, you know you don't have you
don't need money. At the beginning, when I started my
first business, it was construction business in London, UK, I
didn't have any money. I was twenty years old and
I had a big dream and no money. And I
met a mentor who told me start a construction business
because you can make really good money in construction. And
I said, like, yeah, but I know nothing about construction.
(04:16):
And he said, those magical world He said, don't create
yourself a job. Create a system. The business is a system.
Find other people who do the job. You will be
like a manager. You'll be like a you know, right,
the guy who oversees everything. And that's exactly what I did.
In the next week, I created a very crap website,
(04:39):
but he was a website, right, you know, it was
a live website in the next week. So in two
weeks time, I found my first customer. And in the
next six weeks I and my I can't remember. I
think it was like two pounds, you know, without doing
any work myself, right, because I didn't know anything about construction.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
But having your system and creating the process.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Correct, that's correct.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
And that's any ideas. So I always say, once you
pick that one of fifty ideas is just decide. You know,
how's the process and what the system is going to be.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Just choose one.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
You see, I always explain to people the first business
will probably fail.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
I was lucky.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Actually my first business didn't fail in the first few years.
And then it failed like really badly in two thousand
and seven eight during.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
The you know, the big crush everything. That's it. But
then I rebuild it in the next six months.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Right, But that wasn't your problem with the system. It
was just a larger system was more problematic.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
That's it. That's it, you know.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
But but you have to focus. You have to choose
one idea. And some people say like, yeah, but I
don't know which one. It doesn't really matter. The first
business doesn't matter because you're learning the skills and almost
every business works exactly the same, you know.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
The fundamentals are the same.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
You have to learn how to sell, you have to
learn how to do how to create a brand, right,
you have to learn how to do marketing, you know,
and basically you have to learn how to generate leads.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
E free business is all about lead generation.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
And that's part of the brand. So then being that
and having that ability. So what you're saying is also
never throw away any idea.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
No, no, you know that's I always say, write and down.
You know, journal is something amazing to have. You know,
have a journal. I've been journaling for over eighteen years now, right,
you know, and write down those ideas because you never
know where you can use that idea.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
And don't worry, you know, because ideas are free. We
all have ideas. It's the execution that is very important.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Well, they're free but are highly valuable.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
They can be highly valuable.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
But at the same time, an idea without any execution
is worth nothing.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
Oh it's something on a piece of paper.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
One undred percent.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
We all have, you know, hundreds of ideas, but if
we don't act on an idea, it's worth nothing.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Well, I say on your LinkedIn profile you it's the
life and business coach for winners. So you're actually helping
people win. You don't start winning for day one. So
that's part of your process is today, it's the transforming
you into extraordinary you. And that year is any.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
When people come to me, they yes, a lot of
my customers they already winning in life. It's not about
winning now having that winning attitude, and I'm not giving up.
I'm like, for example, when you ask, there's another way
to start a business, not even to start a business,
acquire a business without any money. There's a lot of
people out there, we call them baby boomers, you know,
(07:44):
they sixty five plus, some of them they're seventy years
old plus, and they have great businesses, but they tie
it their children. They do not want to take over
the business because more often than not, those businesses are
not sexy businesses.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
You know, here in the world, same thing, same thing.
That's everywhere.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
I agree with you, everywhere in the world.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
It doesn't matter if you're in Brazil, US, UK, Poland
check everywhere you know.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
You know someone having a plumbing.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
Business or you know, steal business. Those are not sexy businesses.
But most people don't do not understand that not sexy
businesses equals a lot of money.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
That's good profits.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
You know, and we.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
All young people, they all want to be influences on Instagram,
but unfortunately only a very few people making money from Instagram.
