Speaker 1 (00:07):
Welcome to mindful Meditations with Calm the Bleep Down. I'm
Michael Beckaminor and for today's meditation, we're going to remind
ourselves to be thankful. Let's go ahead and get started.
As always, we have a mindfulness quote to help get
us started, and today's quote comes from Deepak Chopra, and
(00:31):
the quote reads, Gratitude opens the door to the power,
the wisdom, the creativity of the universe. You open the
door through gratitude. Like everyone, I'm sure I get stuck
in ruts of focusing or seeing only the negative. And
(00:58):
I think that it's really hard to be happy when
you're focused on the negative. In fact, it's probably impossible.
But I noticed at some point in my life that I,
you know, many years ago, I noticed that I wasn't
I couldn't remember the last time I felt joy. I
(01:22):
have joy when I think of my daughter, or when
I'm petting my dog, I get, you know, a smile.
But when I sit and think about it, or when
I sat and thought about it, I had a hard
time going when was the last time you actually felt elation?
And through you know, meditation and introspection and self reflection
(01:49):
and all of those things that we do. When we're
driving down the road wondering why our life is the
way it is, and talking to some people, I realized
that my problem was that I felt no joy because
I wasn't reminding myself to be grateful in almost any
(02:11):
given moment of most days, you're sitting there at your
desk or you're driving in your car, and you might
be worried about something that's happening tomorrow, or you might
worry about something that may happen, or you're thinking about
something that happened yesterday. But most of the time, if
(02:31):
you stop and think about it, you're fine. We're good
right here, right here, right here, right now. And when
we lose sight of that, and I'm speaking from experience,
when we lose sight of that, we do forget about
the good things that we have or the things we
(02:57):
have that make us feel good. So in today's meditation,
I just want us to take a few minutes and reflect.
So while you're getting comfortable sitting down or lying down
in your seat or mattress and just winding down, you're
taking a few minutes to yourself here, to rebalance, recenter,
(03:23):
to put yourself back into perspective put things back into perspective,
and to remind yourself that the things that are bad
in our life are very often things that have already
happened or have not happened. But right here and right now,
(03:46):
most of the time, we're all good. If you're listening
to this meditation right now, you're fine. So I'm recording
this meditation, I'm fine. I've got time. I'm sitting here
doing something that makes me feel good and that I
(04:06):
know helps other people feel good. We're good. So take
a few minutes to get situated. Take some long, slow,
deep cleansing breaths, and get yourself settled. Relax, Start to
pay attention to the feelings in your body. Turn inward.
(04:35):
As you're starting to feel yourself deepen the relaxation. Just
start with a list a couple things, two or three
things that you're grateful for in your life. Some long, slow,
(05:09):
deep breaths in and out again. When I start thinking
(05:30):
about how unhappy I am, I'm predisposed to cynicism my
own self. It starts a sarcasm, which is generally considered
a joke, but a lot of times there's cynicism very
deep down inside there, somewhere cynic, And when I catch
myself being like that or feeling angry or mad or
(05:56):
upset about something or disappointed, very often it from disappointed
on things that I don't have, things that I'm lacking,
or things that I wish I had that I don't,
or things that I have yet to achieve that I
have worked hard on. That's when I start to feel
(06:16):
sorry for myself really and lose sight of what really matters,
and what really matters. Those things are the things we
(06:38):
need to remind ourselves to be grateful for. So as
we're deepening our relaxation, deepening our breaths, sinking deeper, starting
to pay attention to the weight and the gravity, maybe
getting heavier with each exhale, just start to feel grateful
(07:03):
for this time you have right now. We're meditating, we're
deepening our breaths, so we have breath in our lungs,
we have life coursing through our veins, so we have
(07:36):
this moment. It's all connected for me. So a lot
of times I have to remind myself that you're feeling
the way you feel because you are not present. You're
not right here right now, You are somewhere else in
(07:56):
your mind and very often where I am in my mind.
Sometimes it's daydreaming or or planning or something positive. A
lot of the times it is, but in other times,
when I'm starting to spiral, that's when I lose sight
(08:16):
of reality, and that's when I lose sight of things
that I have and then I'm grateful for that's when
I start to focus on the lack and the scarcity.
And gratitude is about abundance, and you can't have abundance
(08:37):
state of mind and a scar state of mind at
the same time. We're reminding ourselves that with each breath
we have the abundance of life. With each breath, deep
(08:58):
breath and abundance, deep breath out abundance. To take a
few moments we're still here in this meditation, to soak
(09:24):
in the abundance of this moment. Remind yourself to be
grateful that you're still here, choosing life, choosing breath in
an out in, an out e out. The longer I
(11:35):
do this, the more I realize, I am convinced that
there's no way that if we're not thankful or grateful
for the things we have right now in this moment,
(12:00):
we will never know how to appreciate the things we
get tomorrow, a new job, a new car, arrayse boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife.
If we're not grateful the things we have when we
(12:21):
don't have everything we want, how will we ever learn
to appreciate the things we might get later. We're so
often as people unsatisfied and always want more. Well, that
(12:49):
was nice, that's what I wanted yesterday, but I have
that today, So here's what I want for tomorrow. And
we get lost in things. And this isn't just about
material things, but it's the easiest thing to shine a
light on. Grateful for what you do have now. Relationships, time, breath,
(13:32):
heart beat, the ability to choose. As we continue deepening
our relaxation, do so with the intent of gratitude. Thankful
(14:03):
for this breath, Thankful for this exil, Thank you for
the time us coming back into your body now as
(18:05):
we take a last few long, slow deep breaths in
together for the day, Take a long, slow, deep breath
in and outs the silence and stillness settle in. Take
(18:29):
a long, slow deep breath in and out, one last
time in and out. Remind yourself as you go into
(19:00):
your day to be grateful for the time you have
right here and right now, and anytime you need a
little reminder, all you have to do is close your eyes,
take a long, slow, deep breath in and out, and
(19:24):
be thankful for that moment. When you're ready, you can
open your eyes and go about your day. I must stay.
(19:59):
That's it for this time on Calm to bleep down.
