This is our podcast episode Domestic Violence and Trauma. In a previous episode we spoke to a domestic violence survivor who shared his story of coping with trauma and using the experience to help himself and other people. Yes, men are experiencing domestic violence issues and those numbers continue to increase. According to recent statistics from the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence:

•1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner contact sexual violence, and/or intimate partner stalking with impacts such as injury, fearfulness, post-traumatic stress disorder, use of victim services, contraction of sexually transmitted diseases, etc.2

•1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. This includes a range of behaviors (e.g. slapping, shoving, pushing) and in some cases might not be considered "domestic violence." 1

Additionally, due to the global health pandemic and stay in shelter or stay-at-home orders, domestic violence incidents around the world have increased. Our guest today is the Founder of Centering Wholeness which involves counseling, clinical supervision, and consulting. She is also a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a National Certified Counselor, with the field of expertise in domestic/intimate partner violence assessment and trauma-informed/anti-oppressive practices. Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome Ms. Alice Mills Mai!
