“Atypical” cuenta la historia de Sam, interpretado por Keir Gilchrist, un chico de 19 años con TEA (trastorno del espectro autista) que decide independizarse y encontrar el amor. Mientras se zambulle de lleno en el autodescubrimiento, el resto de la familia trata de mantenerse a flote, y todos chocan contra el tema central: ¿qué significa ser normal realmente? En la temporada 3, Sam se pregunta qué es el éxito cuando inicia su primer año universitario y se adapta a los cambios que llegan con crecer. Jennifer Jason Leigh interpreta a su madre Elsa, que también navega por un viaje para encontrarse a medida que sus hijos son más adultos e independientes, Michael Rapaport interpreta a su padre, Doug; Brigette Lundy-Paine es la hermana de Sam, Casey.
