Speaker 1 (00:23):
What's up, everybody. This is Scott Jeger here with another
edition of Challenge Accepted. For those of you guys who
don't know, this is my solo podcast where I answer
your questions from Challenge maniacs dot com. It also gives
me a little bit more time to breathe and discuss
some of the issues going on in the Challenge world. News, rumors, gossip,

(00:43):
things like that, do some housekeeping. If you will update
you guys on all the ongoings and the Challenge Mania
World and Challenge maniacs dot Com, Challenge Mania Live recap,
some of the fun stuff we've done recently and whatnot.
And no guests, no d here, So if you didn't
come for me, you can fordeed, it's not going to
be Derek, but I can hopefully address some of the
stuff on your minds. And I know a lot of

(01:06):
this stuff has been on your minds. I put up
a questions throughout a little bit ago added to it
today we've got some great queries from you guys over
at Challenge maniacs dot com. For those of you guys
who don't know, Challenge Maniacs dot com takes you to
our Patreon page. It helps keep the lights on literally
and figuratively when it comes to Challenge Mania. It's the
reason Derek and I have been doing this since November
twenty and seventeen. It's the way we can dive full

(01:29):
into Challenge Mania year round and make sure we can
dedicate the majority of our times and lives and hearts
to bring in you guys content online every week and
live shows and events at least a couple times a
month here. So we want to thank the pod Squad
is what we call you guys, our patrons, and that
includes everybody who even contributes a dollar every month up

(01:49):
to fifteen dollars, which is our maniac here, which gets
you all of our bonus podcasts. It gets you a
video of all of our live shows when there is video.
It gets you video of all of our interviews. It
gets you early in ad for access to our audio.
The second we do an interview, it goes up over
at Patreon. You don't have to wait a couple of
days till we put the ads in and put it
up on the free feed. So we thank all of
you guys, including our Diesel level patrons, our Savage level patrons,

(02:12):
those extra tiers that gets you even more perks, like
some of the Savage perks are. You get to cut
lines at Challenge Mania live shows. You get early access
to tickets make sure you never miss out on VIP tickets.
You get a direct line to Derek and myself via
group chats and things like that over at Patreon, And
if you stick around at either of those tiers, you

(02:33):
also get a special T shirt you can't even buy
over at Challenge Mania dots shop. There is a Diesel
Level T shirt and a Savage Level T shirt. So
if you've been at one of those tiers, make sure
you email us Challenge Mania Podcasts at gmail dot com
because you should be rocking those T shirts to the shows.
That's the best way, by the way, to let me
know that you're savage, so I can just kind of
wave people off you when you go to cut those lines.

(02:53):
If you're wearing that Savage Level T shirt we send you,
that's a good way to do it. And plus there
are not a lot of Savage level T shirts there,
so it's a hell of a collector's item to wear
to the shows to brag just how loyal you've been
to Derek and myself over the years, and like I said,
we can't thank you enough. So much has gone down
since my last installment of this Q and A. I've
got so much stuff to touch on. We had a

(03:15):
Challenge season debut. We had road Rules thirty, which was
this labor of love live show that Mark and I
had been working on in Los Angeles, a tribute to
the road Rules thirtieth anniversary. That was on July twenty seventh.
And then the quickest turnaround I think we've ever had
was that was Sunday, July twenty seventh, And that wasn't
even just Sunday. Mark and I went the Thursday before,

(03:36):
did a ton of press in California Live and KTLA
Access Hollywood with his road Rules Season one fellow alumni
Kit Hoover, and a c slater himself, Mario Lopez got
to meet him. That was cool. So we did all
that Thursday and Friday. Saturday, we had kind of a
private get together for just cast and crew and friends
and family over at the Saddle Ranch, which, for those

(03:59):
of you guys who I've been to LA, the Saddle
Ranch is this great place on Sunset. They have good
food and whatnot a mechanical bowl, but a lot of
Reality TV veterans have passed through there once or twice
or a thousand times, either as a server or a
bartender or even just a patron. So as a fitting
place to have our sort of pre show get together
and then Sunday breat California. Not just cast members in tow,

(04:23):
but producers, people who helped make the show back then
and currently. Julie Peaz, head of Buna Murray Productions, was there.
Fer Naz, who you may have heard on the podcast
before she went on to do Kardashians and other stuff
to start as a challenge at MTV producer and she
was there. Fatima was there. We had Jim Johnson there
who produced the Real World I mean sorry, road Rules pilot.

(04:45):
He then went on to mainly do Real World, but
he did the road Rules pilot. And when I say pilot,
I don't mean episode one of Road Rules season one,
I mean the unaired pilot that they used as a
proof of concept for the show. The only person from
this that went on to be a part of the
show is Mark long in it. Everyone else never went
on to beyond Road Rules, and Jim got to tell
a story about that. We also showed that unaired pilot

(05:07):
before the show. So all that's up a challenge maniax
dot com the full video, and then we have also
put up the audio on the free podcast feed if
you want to check that out. But yeah, there's only
ever gonna be one thirtieth anniversary of road Rules, and
when we found out they weren't really doing anything for it,
and we get why there's a lot of turnover going
on over there. Paramount just merged or were absorbed or

(05:27):
were purchased by sky Dance and manner they making moves.
They just shelled out billions of dollars to get the UFC.
So for anyone who thought like Paramount Plus is going away,
doesn't look like that's the case. They're gonna be airing
at UFC pay per views and events starting in twenty
twenty six. So I think that's a good sign, by
the way, for The Challenge and things of that nature,
because it's not like the UFC is gonna be the

(05:48):
only thing on Paramount Plus. Do I think MTV's gonna
last forever? Not necessarily, but I do think the Challenge
and shows like The Challenge and Big Brother and Survivor,
I do think are long for this world. They're very
cost to fit, as is made clear by this podcast
by you guys, they have rabid and very loyal fan
bases that are great for subscription services. So hey, if

(06:10):
you're one of us Challenge maniacs who have already been
subscribing to Paramount Plus for whatever content they've been dribbling
out and hasn't been a lot lately, because we know
All Stars five was on MTV didn't even air first
run on Paramount Plus. We're gonna be getting UFC next year,
so I know that's not for everybody, but for those
of you guys who are into MMA, I think it's
pretty damn cool. And even if you aren't looking forward

(06:32):
to UFC and watching the fights and things like that,
I will say you should look at it as a
great sign for the future of Paramount properties like The
Challenge and things like that, because there's been a lot
of uncertainty. I can tell you just a lot of
people have been let go in various positions. People who
had been at places like MTV or Paramount and working

(06:55):
on shows like The Challenge, whether behind the scenes or
in marketing and media and things, have been let go
transitioned elsewhere and that does not feel like a great sign.
And I know a lot of you guys are always
following from a far kind of a spoiler tea leaves
and whatnot, as far as like you know, oh, this,
you know, Season of All Stars that was supposed to
be coming back soon looks like it's being pushed, and

(07:17):
all that feels like, you know, spelling doom for the franchise.
I would look at this UFC news and for those
of you guys who didn't hear, it's like a seven
point seven billion dollar deal with the UFC for the
next few years to be running UFC content on mainly
Paramount Plus but also CBS. I would look at the
amount of money being pumped into that and the wording

(07:38):
of it. In the fact that Paramount plus is what
is being used to show the UFC. I mean, I
think that is a great sign for the future of
the challenge. If you ask me, no way does it
say that in any of the press releases. Why would
it has nothing directly to do with it. But for
those of us following from afar, I would definitely look
at that as a great sign, even if the Challenge
might not be filming asap. I do think we get

(08:00):
another season or two, or five or ten, whether it
be The Challenge or The Challenge All Stars. So that's
Road Rules thirty. Then that was Sunday, the twenty seventh.
I fly back all day on the twenty eighth. I
get back on the twenty eighth to New York. The
twenty ninth, not everybody, but a lot of the cast
members for our huge premiere party got into New York
and we did a cast dinner, which you know, I

(08:20):
always loved doing, but on the heels of this huge
la trip, I will admit it felt like a bit much. Obviously,
my family didn't really get a lot of time to
see me in between, which which I feel bad about.
But we went out. It was Olivia THEO. It was Rogan,
it was no it wasn't Rogan. Sorry, it was Olivia,
it was Theo. It was a Nissa. It was Ryan Keho,

(08:42):
who lives here in New York with me, not with me,
but you know in here in New York and Sydney
and Sydney actually through her own premiere event and party,
which I totally understand. By the way, a lot of
people were asking why she wasn't at the first part
and the majority of our panel on Wednesday. And it's
because she lives here in New York. She's got tons,
dozens of not one hundred friends and family she wanted

(09:04):
to be able to watch it with and she didn't
want to have to a ask for one hundred comps
or b tell them, which I don't know, I think
we had room for them, but or tell them, hey,
you gotta go buy you know, a pretty pricey ticket
to watch with me. So they did something else downtown
and then she actually made it up to the stage
for the photo op at the end, so you'll see
her in that photo with us. It was right at
the end of the panel. We had just ended it,

(09:26):
so you don't really hear from her in the episode,
but she's in that group photo, which is awesome. And
then she stayed and stuck around and met everybody at
the meet and greet, so that was awesome. But got
some quality time with her on Tuesday, and you know,
we'll talk about her a little bit later because I
got some questions about Zingers and what I think about
the season so far, and I think she is one
of what I think has already stood out as a

(09:47):
great rookie class, not just competitively, but I think just
commentary wise, character wise, I think they did a great
job putting together a slew of new threats. So that
was Tuesday, and then Wednesday the aforementioned season forty one
premiere party. We've done premiere parties before. We've done doing
parties before. They're usually on a smaller scale. You know,

(10:08):
I get a question above about why we, you know,
mainly do them in New York. I'll kind of address
that there. But you know, it's Wednesday. You know, it's
the middle of the week. You know, we have to
do it when the show's on, which is eight and
nine o'clock, and you know, expecting hundreds of people to
come out on a Wednesday and stay out till midnight.
It can be tough with people having work and things
like that. But when you've got Johnny Bananas and CT

(10:29):
and Olivia and THEO and even more. I mean, I
think we had over ten to twelve cast members in total,
mainly folks from the show the season, I should say,
but then others who weren't even on it. John A
was there. She even you know, got Fomo and wanted

(10:50):
to come up. That was her idea. Jay of course
All Stars favorite Jay was there. We had Devin Simone
there representing the official Challenge podcast, Ryan Kehoe who I
mentioned so, and then three rookies who you guys didn't
even know we're going to be there, Justin, Gabe and Leo.
And what's cool about having Justin there is Justin was
a focal point of this episode. We had Rogan there,

(11:11):
who lives in the UK. He's not at a lot
of our events, and we actually looked into having both
Rogan and Justin there for that epic elimination between the
two of them. So if you haven't heard that yet,
go and listen to it. It's now on the main
feed with ads. It is ad free over at Challenge
Maniacs dot com and you can watch it over at
Challenge Maniacs dot com. So if you want to see
it in video, go over there. I think it's a

(11:32):
great way to relive the premiere. And and I know
I've mentioned a few times just for those of you
guys who don't know. What was extra cool about this
was Johnny Bananas, who he was happened to be in
town for other stuff and it was kind of his idea. Uh, look,
the idea. The the the reason we ended up with
this embarrassment of riches as far as guess and whatnot is,
you know I would I would never have you know,

(11:54):
already having CT on a lineup, called Johnny and said hey,
you know you want to be a part of it.
He happened to be in New York. He was up
here doing He did some golf stuff in Long Island.
He actually did some stuff in my hometown of Stanford, Connecticut,
and then Norwalk, Connecticut, did some events up there the
weekend prior. So he was already kind of up here
and because he was looking to do some sort of
premier content of his own for his podcast, Death Tacks

(12:15):
and Bananas with Spotify and The Ringer, who have a
great infrastructure with him and for him as far as
being able to send a producer video person. So he
had his person there and he was doing kind of
quippy little content. There was a bit of time where
we thought, and I actually connected them with the City
Winery that they were going to maybe try to live
stream the panel part to the Ringer YouTube channel. That

(12:35):
ended up falling through for whatever reason or another. But
he had his person there and they were doing kind
of fun things backstage. And then in addition to that,
we had the entire MTV social team there. They took
over one of the rooms backstage and they were doing
interviews and things the whole time. And you know, if
you followed the Challenge Instagram account that night, there were
constant shoutouts two and for our event, and you know,

(12:58):
Derek was on there. I was even a post from
the audience while showing people watching on these huge, massive screens.
I believe the caption was, this is my super Bowl.
So look, it's been, like I said, a long history
now of us Challenge Mania working. You know, it's interesting
because our relationship with the show is one of these

(13:19):
where it's like, obviously what we do is good for them,
but as years have gone by, they've started putting out
their own podcasts and things like that, and our synergy
with them, I think is more of an unspoken thing.
Over the past couple of years, or at least maybe
the last year, we've had people from behind the scenes
I think, really embrace it a little bit more start
coming to the shows, first kind of unofficially and just

(13:40):
coming and hanging out backstage saying hello. And then on
that Wednesday, I thought, in a very official capacity, making
it known that hey, this is premiere Wednesday, this is
season forty one, this is where it all starts, and
where are we starting from. It is at Challenge Mania
Live here in New York City, gorgeous Room City Winery.
Sold out almost four hundred people there, And you know,

(14:01):
it's one of those things where we've always wondered, like, hey,
is this something they're ever going to try to do?
Clearly they have not. Clearly they are not. But finally
I think they've begun to maybe embrace what we're doing
and realize that there are times that it's great to
maybe piggyback off it or use it as a one
stop shop to to come and be able to interview,
you know, twelve of their cast members at once where

(14:22):
they don't even have to fly them in and put
them up and do all that stuff. It's funny because
I remember the first viewing party we ever did was
a premiere party for the Final Reckoning, and we did it.
It was at a place downtown that no longer exists,
but a place downtown. We had, you know, great packed
house and stuff, and it was supposed to be Polly
and Cam and Natalie I believe, and Amanda Babbage, car Maria,

(14:45):
and then shortly before you know, we thought we were
gonna have them there for the whole episode, the Challenge
decided they like you know, booked a suite or something,
and basically they wanted them all to be like live
streaming or live tweeting or live instagramming during the episode,
and they wanted to do that from like a controlled place.
So all the cast members I just remembered I just
mentioned didn't even get to come to our event until

(15:05):
after the episode was done. And that's something that as
you know time has gone by, you know, mileage varies
on how much they want to actually pump money and
time into that stuff. And I think for this it
was probably like, hey, they're doing this, why don't we
just go and sort of, you know, do our stuff
backstage there. So I think it worked out perfectly. It
was a true and utter validation for us, and everyone

(15:26):
who was there was a delight. They actually brought This
is some cool stuff they brought Derek. The MTV people
brought Derek his jersey from season forty, his elimination against Corey.
It is the jersey he wore in that elimination. So
if you see pictures from the show, or you see
video from the show or anything, the jersey Derek's wearing
on stage, that is the jersey he wore in that

(15:48):
are you not entertained Gladiator to elimination? That unfortunately was
his exit from season forty but still I think goes
into the Derek lexicon of iconic eliminations for him. So
they actually gave him that jersey back. And we talked
over the years about how they've gotten more and more
stingy with what people can take with them, and they
rarely let them take anything. Some people are you know,
hipped to maybe being able to snag something unofficially. But

(16:11):
they brought him that and I think I actually saw
they brought Olivian Theo a couple of jerseys from season
forty two. So that was awesome. Just you could tell
the appreciation they show for them, and I think, you know,
either indirectly or directly, the appreciation that they show for
us and what we're doing. And again this came a
few days after we had a slew of people, you

(16:32):
know at top of the line. I mean, I think, right,
you know, obviously it would have been great to have
John Murray there, the name at the end of that
Road Rules pilot that we showed, and the man who
created all this, but he no longer officially works at
Buner Murray Productions. His name is on the mass head,
but he's retired. Julie Peasy is as big as it
gets over there, and she was there on Sunday, So,

(16:53):
you know, I think, just a great couple events back
to back. It was a lot, you know. Right after
that was some Slam and Raw, which I had the
pleasure of attending, but you know, I've been kind of
running on fumes, so really delighted to have these few
weeks off. I am home officially from that July thirtieth
premiere which was here, but it was a lot to do,
and Lindsay was there, Brock was there, had a lot

(17:14):
of friends and family in the house, which was cool,
but it was it was a lot full steam ahead.
So luckily have the month of August off and then
August thirty first back at it Chicago Illinois City Winery.
There are still tickets. Guys Carl Maria, Devin Walker, Michelle Fitzgerald,
Ryan Keyhill, Mark Long, Derek Zinski, The Chicago hometown boy
and myself still tickets to Challenge Mania Dot Live. The

(17:35):
following weekend, Sunday, September the seventh, we will be at
Stand Up Live in Phoenix. This lineup is bonkers. Talk
about an embarrassment of riches. I mean, we've got two
brand new Challenge Bani Hall of famers, and I got
a question about the Hall of Fame. Up above, I'll
discuss Tory Deal and Jody Weatherton her first ever Challenge
Mania Live appearance. Jody has lived abroad for the entirety

(17:57):
of Challenge Mania. She's either lived in Germany or Korea.
She has moved back to the stage. She will be
living in the Baltimore area. So delighted to finally have
her in Phoenix and hopefully have her at more Challenge
MANI at live events. But that's not all. Anissa Olivia
THEO Tyson apostles so for you survivor junkies, not only
just survivor junkies, but people who like people who bring

(18:17):
the heat. If you've never heard him on his podcast
or heard some of his candid interviews, Tyson is great
and speaking of people with the gift of gab Ben
Bain Davis who is one of the Again I was
commending the rookie selections, the rookie casting of season forty one.
Ben has become one of my favorites, not just on
the show but on social media as well. So delighted

(18:37):
to have him there. Derek Chavez, who lot's been made
of this kind of back and forth between him and
Justin since the premiere and episode two. So we'll finally
get Derek Chavez side of things over there. And then
Mark Long and myself, So Tory Anissa, I mean, what
a lineup, guys, and tickets are still available me and
greet included, So go and grab those tickets to Challenge

(18:57):
Manie dot Live. After that is Boston, which is Detroit
almost sold out. That's my fortieth birthday show. Unofficially, I
turned forty. I know right, Challenge is turned forty now
I'm turned forty. Forty seasons for them, forty years for me.
That's a lot more seasons, four seasons per year. So
I guess I'm on my I guess I'm on my
would that be one hundred and sixtieth season coming up?

(19:19):
But my birthday is October seventh. Our show is October
fifth at District one forty two. Really cool venue. It's
a music venue. We love it there and we're happy
to be back with a really crazy lineup westn Bergman,
Nani Gonzalez, Zach Nichols, Yes you heard that right, Zach
Nichols making his Challenge Many Live debut, and Mark Long
and maybe another cast member two Ton out so headed

(19:41):
Challenge Mania dot Live for tickets to that those are
almost gone. And then November fifteenth, Buffalo, Happy to be
coming back to our good friends up in Buffalo. There
November fifteenth, bringing Tory Deal, Devin Walker, Anissa Ferreira and
Mark Long. That's that vice in Buffalo, and then just
a believe is it? Is it? A week later? Yeah?
A week later Nashville, Tennessee Banana rou that's right, not

(20:03):
Banaru Banana Rou because Johnny Bananas. I know you've been
seeing he's been doing a lot of djaying, but you
may have also seen on social media he likes to
pick up an acoustic guitar from time to time he's
gonna be performing, that's right. Nashville Music City brings out
the music and everybody. He's gonna be bringing that guitar
and doing I don't know how many songs, maybe a medley.
He's gonna be doing a musical performance, probably towards the
end of the show. In addition to the panel and

(20:24):
the VIP meet and greet, Johnny Banana is, Derek Kaczinski,
Mark Long, Katie Cooley in the house, and Nani Gonzalez
with again more guests to be announced, So head a
challenge maning a dot live for that and we might
try to fit one more in for you this year,
maybe in December. Is still working that out with d
But other than that, I will be Over the Edge
Celebrity Weekend in December. That is the first Thursday in December.

(20:48):
Let me get you the exact date. It's December fourth
through the Sunday, which is the seventh. If you've never
heard of this, it used to be called Harse Reality.
Now it's Over the Edge Celebrity Weekend. It is. I mean,
I think it's over one hundred reality stars, not even
just reality stars. Wrestlers are there, other celebrities. It's a
big meet and greed. I'm gonna be hosting some panel,
Q and A's there. All of it goes to different charities.

(21:09):
My charity this year is the Michael J. Fox Foundation
for Parkinson's Research. We've already raised close to five thousand
dollars over at shot at yager dot com. So that's
s h O T O F Y A g e R.
If you feel like donating even a dollar, that will
take you to my Over the Edge Celebrity Weekend page
where they're collecting funds over there, using some of it
obviously to put on this great event, but also sending
all the money to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for

(21:31):
Parkinson's Research, which those who have asked why I selected that,
a lot of people not just in my life but
in life in general obviously are affected by Parkinson's, including
the great Michael J. Fox, who the charity is named
after and who is very heavily involved in the charity.
And the fortieth anniversary of Back to the Future it
was this year, so that's why I selected that. But

(21:53):
recently and I get a question about him. It's one
of my first questions here. Brad Nelson wants to know
where I'm putting Azzy on my all time heavy metal
hard Rock front Men and Women list Top ten, top five,
top three, and top one. I'm gonna answer that after
the break. But Ozzy Osbourne also plagued with Parkinson's as well,
and obviously he passed away recently, and I did put up.
I did a whole about thirty minutes on the passing

(22:15):
of Hogan and the passing of Ozzi. That's over at
challengemaniac dot com. But we're gonna take a break. We're
gonna hear from some sponsors. If you're hearing this on
the main feed, if you're hearing a Challenge maniac dot com,
you'll hear a little bit of music. That's it. When
I come back, we'll start answering your questions beginning with
that Ozzie one. But shot at yeager dot com s
h O T O F y A g R if
you feel like donating to a good cause. Otherwise, just

(22:36):
think it may be coming down because it'll be a
great celebrity field weekend. You can go. If you go
to shotot ygger dot com, it'll take you to the
page and even if you want to bounce around and
see who else is gonna be there, tons of people
from the Challenge survivor, Big Brother, you name it. It's
gonna be awesome. And then I should mention the reality
TV Extravaganza Cruz. It is a Martin Luther King Junior
weekend in January. Believe it is the fifteenth through the

(22:59):
nineteen and I stuck at tickets at Showroomreality Cruise dot com. Uh,
Jordan Wesh, Tina, Rachel, Michelle, Devin and myself. I'm gonna
be hosting some panels at that too, so lots of
fun stuff in addition to Challenge Media live events that
I'm proud to be a part of too. So all right,
and I believe we have a question about the Cruse
later on that I'll answer, so word from our sponsors.
Coming back taking your questions from a challengemaniac dot com.

(23:22):
This is Joe and accept due. All right, Scott Jager
back here with challenge accepted. Gonna answer your questions from
Challenge Maniacs dot com. Gohania enthusiast says, why does the

(23:42):
set list for the upcoming Bush show suck? Hmmm? I
went to see Bush opened for Shine Down over at
MSG in July. I did find this set, which was
you know, it was an opener set, so it was
almost like, you know, it's a little less than an hour,
maybe little light on the hits. I thought it was
a little too modern bush forward. I think when you're
when you're in that slot specifically at MSG, you might

(24:04):
want to you know, I you know, I missed. You know,
we didn't get swallowed anything like that. So I was
a little annoyed by that. But they were good and
it was still cool to see Gavin and uh and
I did really like Shine Down. So if I had
gone just to see Bush, I probably would have been
a little disappointed. Brad says, where are you putting Azzie
on your list of all time heavy metal hard rock
frontmen and women Top ten, Top five, top three, top one. Now, okay,

(24:28):
front man is different from singer, all right, Although I
do think and I heard this on a podcast recently,
I do tend to gore. I think Ozzie is a
bit of an underrated singer because I think it's such
an iconic voice, and you know, the the A lot
of his singing I think is is sort of secondary
to the iconography and everything like that, and eating the
Bats and the oz Fest and the show and everything.

(24:48):
But I think as far as like when you include
all that, and and look, heavy metal and hard rocker
are different, right, because are we talking like hard rock,
like are we in including Kurt Cobain, you know what
I mean? Things like that, But let's just say heavy metal.
I think it's no worse than top three, because again,

(25:10):
when it comes to heavy metal, not a lot of
guys are good singers per se. You know, like Metallica
is my favorite heavy metal band. I think that the
vocals on pretty much every Metallica record up until the
Black album, I'll leave a lot to be desired. I
think I think James really learned how to sing in

(25:31):
the nineties. Now that's fine because to me, heavy metal
is more about the guitars. It's more about the solos,
It's more about the riffs things like that, So vocals
are kind of secondary. But I think when you include that,
I think like his vocals are are very underrated in
that regard. But when it comes to what he did
for the genre, what he I mean with oz Fest

(25:54):
and what he did for so many younger bands that
broke on oz Fests, and the fact that he's got
Black Sabbath, He's got the solo career and if you
want to do it on NAUSI deep Dive, which I
which I've been doing since he passed away sadly, and
it sucks that sometimes it takes somebody to pass away
to really dive into their music. Sometimes a lot of

(26:15):
that solo stuff I think is really underrated. And that's
when he really I think, aligned with a lot of
you know, younger musicians who really got him, and obviously
it was Randy Rhodes and then and then Zack Wilde
and Rob ter Julio who now is playing with Metallica.
And I think that you know, we've been playing Crazy
Train since he passed away at the live shows, and

(26:35):
it might end up becoming a staple of our live shows,
particularly when we have a long line up, and I
don't think everyone can have their own entrance. Uh, if
you saw the way we did the premiere, we actually
did it at road Rules thirty and at the premiere,
Ozzie passed away the week before he passed away, I
think the Sunday and Monday before, and then Hogan passed
away the thursday I landed in LA. I found out
on the flight to LA that Hogan passed away, and

(26:58):
so obviously I was feeling very nostalgia for Ozzy, so
I went with and it worked out because for both
Road Rule thirty where we had I think twelve cast members,
and then same thing for the premiere party where we
had you know, twelve fifteen whatever it is. Didn't really
make sense to give people individual intros, and so I
did this thing where we played Crazy Train, which works
on its own, but then I kind of gave everyone
their own quick little you know, announced them by name

(27:19):
before they hit the stage during Crazy Train, which of
course I think works as an allegory for the crazy
train of people hitting the stage. So I mean, I
think if you want to put Ozzie number one, and again,
this is heavy metal, right, so when it comes to frontmen,
you know, obviously I put Freddy Mercury up there, I think,
but queen, you know, do you want to call him

(27:40):
heavy metal or they hard rock? I don't know, but
I would kind of put him in his own category.
I mean, to me, with Freddie, obviously, it's a lot
of the showmanship and it's the vocals, and if we're
going to include Freddy, I think I have Freddy probably
above him. But as far as heavy metal goes, I mean,
there's a reason. I mean, look like I said, as
much as I love Metallica and I'm happy they've never
broken up. The fact that Oz went on his own

(28:01):
after Black Sabbath and has this huge thirty year career,
forty year career as a solo artist, and that name Azzy,
and it just I mean, he's probably the most famous
name in rock. You know, a lot of people point
to Lemmy. Lemmy's never really been my guy. And again,
a lot of my favorite heavy metal bands, whether it's
slipping on as you know, So the vocals are are

(28:22):
kind of secondary to the music. With Ozzy, the music
is great too, but the vocals are very present, and
it's hard to imagine the songs not with Ozzie's iconic vocals,
everything you did with the Osbourne So look, I would
say no worse than top three. Look, A lot of
this is subjective, and but I would say heavy metal
as far as front men who are important to the genre,

(28:45):
if you're going to include all that stuff, I would
say top one, no worse than top three. Paul says,
pretty much everyone agrees that the shows are too long
now and the golden era was ten plus years ago.
Haven't had a consensus top ten flagship season since War
the World's One, which was an hour long episode. Do
you think production finally looked at what works and this
season will be shortened episodes and more of the twelveish

(29:07):
number of episodes or foolishly be ninety minute long episodes
and twenty episode season. Yeah, well we already know, and
this was three weeks ago. He asked this that it
is ninety minute episodes at least to start, and I
think it will be closer to twenty episodes than ten.
I will say that, or twelve whatever. And I just
think that's a kind of what the order is for.

(29:30):
They want it to be as bloated as possible, and
they need content. Paul says, Challenge Mania has covered every
flagship season beginning with Vendetta, So ten seasons heading into
this one. Rank them all in order of your most
favorite to least favorite. All right, So I'm not going
to rank them ten to one, sorry, Paul, But what
I will say is that what stand out as my
favorites are War the World's One, Vendettas Ride or Dies,

(29:56):
Total Madness. I probably put total Madness ahead. So okay,
so I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go War the World's Won.
I'm gonna go Vendettas. I'm gonna go total madness. Then
it might be a controversial pick, but I'm gonna go
Ride or Dies, And then I'm gonna go Season forty
for the worst seasons in some order. I believe it's

(30:17):
probably Spies, Lies and Allies and that battle for a
new champion. Now, one thing I gotta say a lot
of people I have heard of people talking about War
the World's Two very fondly. I have issues with the
format of that season. I'm not a big team format season.
Although I do realize that there were some good moments
in that season and things like that, that one doesn't

(30:39):
stick out as much to me. The other one that
I think is hard to place is Final Reckoning, which
I remember at the time felt very convoluted, but I
think now it's like it's one of those like didn't
know how good we had it kind of seasons where
it's like, you know, how now everyone kind of longs
for the George Bush years, where like when we were
in it, we were like, oh my god, how fucking
stupid is this guy? But now you're like, well, by comparison,
I don't know, uh, I think you know, pardon where

(31:03):
you land. As far as politics, and just take the
analogy for what it is. I think with Final Reckoning,
at the time, I remember just like the idea that
people got to come in in the middle of the season,
and then you know, the controversy with the Johnny and
was it Johnny and Tony versus Natalie and Paul elimination
and all the rumors there and then the way the
final ended up and the controversy there and stuff. But

(31:25):
now I just think just you know, the cast, and
you know, having Marie I believe for the last time
and whatnot. And I think people do kind of look
back on it fondly now in retrospect, sort of like
how we look at George Bush, whereas in the moment
it felt like, you know, not the most fun one
to cover and experience in real time. And again, coming
off the heels of Dirty thirty, which I thought was

(31:46):
very good and vendettas, I think it was, you know,
kind of stepping in the wrong direction a little bit.
But now looking back, I think I would still put
it over a lot of those you know, post pandemic
seasons that were really losing their way. And I think,
you know, Double Agents is interesting because I would put
Double Agents definitely on the back half. As far as enjoyability,
it'd probably be in my bottom five, But it's hard

(32:08):
to remember that we were starving for content so much.
It was the first one they filmed during the pandemic
that we finally got to enjoy. And that's why I think,
you know, Total Manna stands out to me because it
was filmed pre pandemic, but we did watch it during
the pandemic and it was obviously feeding us when we
needed content so much on the heels of that Survivor
Season forty as well. So that's kind of my unofficial

(32:30):
rankings there. Paul says, if you voted in the challenge
Banu Hall of Fame and who would appear on the
podcast has Zero Factor, would you have voted for Laurel
over Tory. I feel like Laurel not being in as
pretty fucking nuts. Sarah adds, no one should memorialize someone
who's an outright bully and also quit her. Her first

(32:50):
couple of years she was good, but ever since coming back,
she advances by bullying and scare tactics. She's afraid to
take it in the sand, take it to the sand,
and use other people to do her dirty work, So
I land somewhere in the middle here. I do think
I would probably vote for Laurel. I do agree with you, Paul,
that it seems silly to not have someone of her
stature in the challenge me Andia Hall of Fame. That's

(33:12):
why for anyone whoever complains about why we do eligibility
and things like that, it's because we do try to
spread it around so that look, we only do two
inductees for each gender a year, and you have a
year like this where there's I think on the mail
end there were two very obvious candidates in Jordan and Durrell,
but like let's say Johnny Bananas was also eligible this year,
who's the odd man out out of those three? Here

(33:34):
on the female end, we had something similar Tory, Laurel,
and Jody. I will say, if I had votes, I
probably this is gonna sound weird, but I think Laurel
I would almost lean towards over both of those ladies,
and then it's kind of deciding between Jody and Tory.
So I probably would have went Laurel and Jody or
Laurel and Tory. But I do agree. I think Laurel

(33:56):
the name just just rings out and challenge Luster and
Laura and I'd probably have right there. Trevor says, it's
been a while since you've mentioned new movies and shows
you're watching. What movies coming out or recently are you
most excited to see? Also, is Sinners a true horror movie?
I hate horror movies, but really want to watch this. No,
I wouldn't call it a horror movie. I would call
it more of a thriller. It does have a vampire component,

(34:17):
but if you've ever seen like From Dust Till Dawn,
it is much closer to that kind of vampire presence,
which I think is very watchable and more jump scary
than say, like a horror movie, like in your traditional
kind of Dracula vampire sense. I would not call it
a horror movie. I actually think the vampire element is
secondary to the cultural aspects, the musical aspects of the movie,

(34:38):
and I would highly recommend watching it. Similarly a movie
that I'll say, it's funny you asked this three weeks ago.
I'm kind of going to run through some movies I've
seen that I was excited about and have seen Weapons,
which I saw this past weekend, which is getting very
well reviewed well received, and then in turn also getting
some backlash of people who see and don't think it's
as good as the ninety nine percent run Tomatoes rating

(35:00):
or whatever. That's another one where I think it might
have felt like it was going to be a horror movie.
It is not. I think it's more of a thriller.
It's a snarky thriller. It's got you know, And I
almost don't want to say more than that. I would say,
definitely go see it. It's a great theater experience. So
sinners and weapons not true horror movies. Do not avoid
them if horror is the roadblock for you, neither of them,
and I would highly recommend seeing weapons in the theater.

(35:22):
Other movies I saw in the theater recently F one.
I found F one to be amazing what I loved
about it. And this guy Joseph Kazinski, who shares a
last name with my co host here. He also made
Top Gun Maverick, something he did so brilliantly with both
these movies, not just visually. He found this great way
of capturing both you know, fighting fighter pilots and that

(35:44):
putting that camera in the or on the fighter jet
in a way that I've never seen in a movie.
He does the same thing putting it on these race cars,
but even just in the script. One of my favorite
things about Top Gun Maverick is that this movie that
should have these con eluded sort of runs and missions
and this, and that the geography of them always made sense.

(36:04):
You always knew what was going on, you always knew
like what needed to be done. It was very succinct.
Same thing with this. I'm not even someone who watches
F one. I'm familiar with it, but certainly not the
intricacies of it when it comes to the tire tread
and the importance of coming in eleventh versus tenth and
things like that. And they do such a good job
baking that exposition into the commentary, into the dialogue that

(36:27):
I was able to follow it. And it's great. It's
great and something you should definitely see in theaters. They
just put it back an IMAX. Check that out. Superman
I liked more than I thought I would. I'm not
a Superman guy. I am a gun guy. Not sorry.
James Gunn the writer, director, filmmaker, auteur who of course

(36:48):
did Guardians of the Galaxy. He has since done Suicide Squad,
the second one for DC. He's just got a great
way of balancing tone and comedy and taking these superhero
movies not too seriously. I think I tweeted this and
I mean it that James Gunn is sort of who
we wanted Joss Whedon to be, JOSSH. Whedon, who people
know from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, who did the first
couple Avengers movies, and then obviously I think got kind

(37:10):
of shamed out of Hollywood and away people really not
liking working with him and things like that, and kind
of horror stories from the set. But if you remember
those first few Avengers movies, what was great about him
to me was the sort of interweaving comedic banter with
the Avengers in the scheme of the action and stuff.
And I think James Gunn does that better than anyone
Weed and included. So I liked Superman again. I'm only

(37:32):
gonna love a Superman movie so much because he's just
not my guy. It's not my world. But loved it
as much as I could have. Really liked the Jimmy character.
The guy's name escapes me. But he's been in a
couple of movies I've really liked lately. He was in
Licorice Pizza, and I think he's a guy you're gonna
see a lot from Rachel Brosnahan was good, Nathan Fillion

(37:52):
was good. So you know, I was pro Superman. I
was not pro Fantastic Four. I went to see this
by myself in LA on Friday night. Mark was tired.
We just skipped dinner and then I went to go
see that at the Century City Mall. I wanted to
love it, wanted to like it. I realized about an
hour and I'm like, oh, I do not like this movie.
Maybe I'll like the post credits scene the Stinger if

(38:12):
you will enough to where it will save it, but
did not save it for me by any means. So
I didn't love that one. Eddington really wanted to love it,
ended up kind of liking it because I didn't love
the last say thirty to forty minutes of it. But
I definitely recommend checking it out. That was an interesting one.
And then also Materialists very polarizing at this point, but
I did like Materialists, which has Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal,

(38:35):
who's in three of the movies I just named. But
I saw all those, liked all those, would recommend all
those save for maybe Fantastic Four. But I get why
you have to see it. And I've also been glued
to seven episodes into The Hunting Wives on Netflix, which
is it is sort of the Real Housewives of the NRA.
But it's not a reality series. It's a scripted series.

(38:56):
It's based on a book. It is so trashy. It's
very It's got elements of Scandal and Desperate Housewives and
Shonda Rhymes type shows. It is very, very x rated
and sallacious. There's a lot of nudity and gratuitous sex
and stuff like that. It's sort of like the White
Lotus if it took place in Texas. It's like the
White Trash Lotus, if you will. But it is very watchable,

(39:17):
definitely split screen watchable. You can watch it while you're
doing work and things like that. But I think it's
worth checking out. It's a it's a fun show. Definitely
not one to watch with the kids around though. All right,
we got more questions coming up. Just a quick break
here for more of our sponsors and then more of
your questions, because challenge is acceptable. All right, Scott here

(39:40):
with more questions and answers for you via Challenge Maniacs
dot com. And I love that these questions are not
just challenge specific. We get questions about movies, we get
questions about wrestling, things that not just I'm interested in,
but you guys are interested in it. Lets me know
what you guys are interested in talking about and hearing about.
So fun stuff and and that's why this podcast has

(40:01):
no time limits. We have no guests to worry about.
And those of you guys who hopefully clicked on this
and are listening to this, are willing to hear about
these variety of tangents because that's what we're here for.
And if not, go listen to something else. Eric says,
if you were to build a WWE style pay per
view card made entirely of eliminations using the cast of
the Challenge forty one, oh, what would your lineup look

(40:24):
like from opening match to the main event? Who's facing who?
And what type of eliminations would you use? All right,
I'll kind of breeze through this. The forty one caveat
is interesting because I did have some people when I
bought these questions, I didn't read that, so I had
some people like Wes involved and FESSI involved that I
will spare you from if that is part of the
prompt here, I'll stick to it. By the way, you know,

(40:48):
keep keep your eyes peeled. Mark and I are working
on something. We're brainstorming and we're hopefully putting something together
for twenty twenty six that might actually bring something like
this to a life stage near you. So something we're
gonna have some hopefully fun with and see what sticks.
As you know here with Challenge Mania, and this actually

(41:09):
probably wouldn't be Challenge Mania per se, but more of
a Mark Long and Scott Jeger production. We're gonna see
if there's maybe a market for this and well we'll
have more on that soon. But just a little easter
egg for you to drop here. Keep your eyes peeled
twenty twenty six because who knows. This idea of a
fantasy elimination matchup and maybe one that you could see

(41:30):
not just on the Challenge, but maybe off the Challenge
and maybe even in person, might be something coming down
the pike. So stay tuned. But Eric, to answer your question,
here's what we're going to do. We're going to do
two pole wrestles here, one pole wrestle is going to
be between mister Derek Kazinski and it is going to

(41:53):
be Derek Kazinski against Johnny Bananas, Johnny Bananas Derek kazin
Ski pole wrestle. Uh. And then on the female end,
we're gonna have Miss Olivia Kaiser against that's right, Miss Kara,
Maria Soorbelo. I think those would be some kick ass
pole wrestles there. Then on the hall brawl end, we're

(42:15):
gonna have CT Tamborello going against the other big man
on the season, Theo Campbell. You saw what Theo did NEPAULI,
Let's see what he can do against CT. Female hall brawl.
All right, what are we gonna do on the female
hall brawl? And well, one of them's gotta be Naya,
and it's gonna be you know, Naya at full strength.
Rumors are that Naya has been dealing with some sort

(42:38):
of injury on this season, So we don't want season
forty one Naya. We want full force Naya. Okay, and
we are going to put Miss Naya up against Mikayla.
That's right. I'd love to see them in a hall
brawl as well. So those are two pole wrestles and
two hall brawls for you. And you know, now what's

(43:00):
interesting is again, I did fantasy book this and now
I'm reasoning reading the challenge forty one thing here, so
I will flip it on you. But what I had
interestingly enough for my fantasy and I'll tell you one
I had. I had like CT versus Fasci, I had
Jordan versus Johnny and balls in or something anyway, so
scrap that because those people aren't involved in forty one.

(43:20):
And I also had a man on woman puzzle matchup
because one of the best male puzzles and one of
the best female puzzles. And now they might be getting
married who knows what. And they played puzzles together on
the weekends Michelle versus Devin in a puzzle, So obviously
can't do that because they're not in forty one. And
when I say they might be getting married, I don't
know anything. I'm just saying they're obviously like very much

(43:41):
in love and whatnot. And you can ask them if
they're going to be getting married or wh are you
gonna have a populic question to Devin if you want
to annoy him? In Chicago on August thirty first or
in Boston, which is sold out on September twenty seventh.
But I'd love to see them in a puzzle against
each other. That would be heartbreaking in the Nanny and
Casey fashion, but that would be interesting to both. So
get a puzzle. So I'll take maybe two puzzle wizards

(44:03):
from this season. I think a viv Is is pretty
good at puzzles, So gonna take Aviv and going to
put her up against h who's sort of a male
puzzle wizard on the mail end. Okay, well, her and
Johnny would be interesting. A viv versus Johnny in a
puzzle that would be interesting to see. And then you
have to pull Johnny out of that poll wrestle. H

(44:24):
all right, let's do Derek. Let's do Derek Kazinski versus
Derek Chavez in a poll wrestle. I think there's just
an interesting matchup, and we're gonna put Johnny into that
puzzle war with his fellow Johnny's angel, Aviv. Ryan says,
have you seen Eddington? Feelings and thoughts? I loved the
first let's say seventy minutes of it. I really did.

(44:44):
I really liked it. I loved everything about just the uh,
the pandemic sort of story. The I thought that the
kind of seeing this character navigate through the world from
the end, and I didn't think I ever wanted to
see a kind of pandemic story because I's PTSD and
I wanted to go back there. But I thought this
was such an interesting take. But I just didn't love

(45:08):
where it went in the last thirty to forty minutes.
And that's fine. I try not to let endings ruin
movies for me that I've already liked. But you know,
it doesn't want a movie didn't stick the landing for you,
per se. It can obviously taine how you feel about it,
but I did still like a lot of it. Brian says,
what is your perspective on why MTV challenges have been
slow to migrate over episodes to Paramount Plus streaming? Do

(45:30):
you expect the same thing for forty one as forty
What producer? Can we send any our emails to? No
producer whatsoever? So I've asked this, I've been told so Survivor,
for instance, Arizon CBS the next day it's on Paramount
Plus Big Brother, every single episode the next day if
you miss it. Why even fire up your DVR just
watching it on Paramount Plus. The challenge is not the
case with that, and I believe it's something that has

(45:51):
to do with the contracts as it deals with cable,
specifically MTV, And probably I would if I had to guess,
it's with like the advertisers, like for instance, if I
was advertising with survivor Okay, something I would probably have
to consider is that, you know, my thing is going
to be seen by everyone who watches it live and

(46:14):
then maybe people who watch it on DVR. But that look,
anyone who waits till the next day and watches it
on Paramount Plus is probably not going to see my
ad Okay, with MTV, it's probably baked in there that
they are not going to put it anywhere else the
following day. That if you're going to watch it for
the most part, and I know there are other ways
you can watch it, you can purchase it on Prime

(46:35):
and things like that, if I had to guess, it
is a beholden to the advertisers or the cable contracts
type of thing. But yeah, I think it really gets
in the way of furthering the fandom. I think that
they are losing steam I think that sadly, look, look,
people keep looking at the ratings declining and being a
sign of interest in the challenge. I think it's more
of a sign of just how people get their content.

(46:56):
I think the reason you see WWE moving to not
PAYPERV based models and you see the UFC now moving
away from that, is it is now becoming about getting
the most eyeballs on a product, and I think you
should be trying to if it was up to and
you asked, like, what producer can you send an angry
email to? None of them, because every producer to a person,
would love for the Challenge to be watched and available

(47:18):
to as many people as possible. They would love for
their friends and family, most of which, probably especially the
younger people in their lives, do not get traditional cable
to be able to watch it on their phone, to
be able to watch it with whatever streaming app they have.
And look, Challenge Mania, we have people who follow us
on Facebook, so obviously they like the challenge enough to

(47:39):
follow a page on Facebook which you can get to
by going to Facebook dot com, slash Challenge Mania podcast
and every season, like season forty one, of the Challenge
littered with comments Where can I watch this? What channels
this on? And these are people who know for a
fact that the challenge has been on MTV and has
been synonymous with MTV for forty seasons. Yet they still
assume it could be watched something else, because watch some

(48:00):
where else, because so much of content can be these days.
So it's so foreign the idea that it's only on
MTV at this point that I think it's getting in
the way of people wanting to watch it. I tell people, hey,
you can buy for twenty two dollars on Amazon. They go, no,
I don't want to do that. I personally think that's
a very like affordable price to watch an entire season
of a show you watch, considering going to see one

(48:20):
movie today cost twenty two dollars. But look, people feel
how they feel about paying for content. I think it's
you know, you saw people up in arms when they
just announced WWE as moving to ESPN streaming app next year,
and then it might cost thirty dollars, you know, no
longer will it be nine ninety nine. I think I
already pay more than nine ninety nine for Peacock because
I go for the ad free version. So to me,

(48:41):
it's only a slight uptick in fee, and I think
it also comes for free if you get traditional cable
in ESPN, which I get. So for me, I just
always assumed content cost money. I think maybe we grew
up and since our parents paid the cable bill, we
didn't really understand that the stuff has always cost money.
But I do feel a little weird when people get
so upset that they have to pay for the things

(49:01):
they like. I mean, maybe it's because I'm a content
creator myself. I feel like people are putting work into
making this stuff. It clearly costs money. The cast needs
to get paid, the crew needs to get paid, everybody
needs to get paid. And they don't make these things
for free and for charity. They're doing it to make money.
So the money has to come from somewhere. So, whether
it's paying your cable company and having to buy one

(49:23):
thousand channels of which you only watch thirty, or now
buying a streaming service for what only amounts to four
shows you like or whatever, or buying a show out
right on Prime for twenty two dollars or iTunes or
twenty two dollars I think twenty two dollars or whatever,
it ends up being for one of your favorite things
in life. I just think is a viable thing, you
know what I mean. So, but again, you might be

(49:44):
listening to this and saying, Scott, you come from a
place of privilege, how dare you? People are less fortunate?
And that's all fine and good. I just you know,
it's just I don't think that this is some pulling
the wool over us all of a sudden. Now, stuff
costs money in a roundabout way. This stuff has always
costed money. There been through a cable package or someone
else was paying it for you, but it has never

(50:04):
been free. So has it all gone up in a way? Yes,
but everything does. I mean, like, look how much a
happy meal costs today in comparison to what it costs
in the nineties, Right, Like have you ever like just
gotten like remember when like you know things that remember
five dollars foot longs? Have you ever gone to a
subway recently? They're twelve dollars? So stuff that exists for

(50:28):
as long as the challenge has existed, are are always
going to evolve in uh, you know how you watch them?
How much it costs to watch them? But I mean,
just make no mistake that the Challenge an MTV cable
has never been free. CBS in certain you know, ways
of acquiring CBS has been so you know it almost
like with shows like Survivor and Brig Brother you almost

(50:50):
have more of an argument. But the Challenge has never
been free to watch. But anyway, no, I don't think
that's again. I think MTV might go away at some point.
I do think at some point the Challenge might migrate
over to CBS and Paramount Plus exclusively. So I think
those days will come soon enough. Bad Bobby says, no question.
Just to shout out to any other Challenge maniacs, we're

(51:12):
biking across the great state of Iowa. He then said,
since my bike post was last week and is now over,
it's that time again. Shout out to all my fellow
educators heading back into the schools. As the new year begins.
I'm stepping into year ten as a behavior specialist. I
just want to wish every educator out there a successful, inspiring,
and fulfilling school year. You've got this, yes, I second that,
Bad Bobby. Good luck to you, and good luck to

(51:33):
everybody who works in the school system or with kids
and our educators or educator adjacent in any way, you
guys are doing God's work, Mariah as in Carrie says
any viewing parties outside of New York City and not LA.
I heard Phoenix is nice in October and maybe some
challenge folks live this way. Yeah, they do, which is
why we're coming to you guys on September seventh. Hopefully

(51:56):
we'll see you there. I have a feeling we won't, though, Shoney.
But what I'll say is the reason we tend to
do them mainly in New York is again, middle of
the week is a tough ask, right, So we've tried
to do them other places. We've done them in Baltimore,
We've done them in Nashville. They don't do so well. So,
to be honest with you, it's one of those things
where unless I want to force it for some reason,

(52:17):
like there's something I really want to go to on
the Tuesday, or there's like a venue really calling our
name or making it easy for us, they just don't
do very well. So to be away for another couple
of days and things like that, it just kind of
feels like grasping its draws. That's the reason we do
them so much in New York. It's either kind of
New York or nothing. As far as if we did
do them in other cities, and I'm not like completely

(52:38):
opposed to it, it would probably be cities that we
haven't gone to recently for a challenge mania. Like just
being candid, like we're coming to Phoenix on September seventh,
so I can assure you we will not be coming
back to Phoenix for a viewing party this year. I
will say, also just candidly, based on the lineup you
guys are getting in Phoenix, Jody Olivia, Theo Chavez, Tory Tyson, Anissa,

(53:01):
Mark Ben it's you know, you guys could be coming.
I a gret that I will say the caveat. I
get this. It is the Sunday, the first opening Sunday
of NFL football. I get it. So for those of
you guys who are I don't want a gender stereotype
and maybe having trouble talking to your husband into going
to this, or maybe you're you yourself or such an
NFL diehard, which I know there are a lot of

(53:22):
female fans out there too, I get it. So maybe
we didn't pick the best date. We picked this weekend
because we have a great relationship with the Diamondbacks, and
we're doing a game there that weekend and throwing out
a first pitch and everything like that, and so maybe
not ideal with the football stuff, but with this lineup
everyone I just named, look, you guys aren't necessarily and look,
maybe it's too much of a good thing. This is
our third Phoenix show. Maybe Phoenix isn't the place that

(53:44):
we should be coming to every year. Selfishly, because we
love doing stuff with the Diamondbacks. We're probably gonna come
back again, but not for a viewing party. When when
I look at the amount of sales for this which
is a weekend, which is a Sunday, which is a
lineup of twelve people, that doesn't tell me, hey, we
should also come back early and off and on a Wednesday,
and assume that Phoenix is just gonna show out because
no offense. Phoenix is kind of you know, look again,

(54:06):
maybe it's too much of a good thing. I'll say
the same thing about Buffalo. You know, we love what
we have with the Bills there, with game day hospitality
and the tailgates and getting to go play on the
field after. It's super cool. And that's why we're coming
back in November. But I will say, for those of
you guys in Buffalo, you want us to come back
next year, head over to Challenge MANI Dot Live and
grab some tickets, tech some friends. Let people know, hey,
maybe Challenge Mania might not be back sooner or rather

(54:28):
than later. So when it comes to the viewing parties,
I will say, we're probably scaling those back. If we
do one this year. It's definitely not gonna be in Phoenix,
definitely not gonna be in Buffalo. It's not gonna be
in La either. Don't worry. But it's just the viewing
party model. Because it's a Wednesday night at eight o'clock.
Things like that, the ceiling is low, the threshold is

(54:48):
a bit lower. For who's gonna come out. We have
to kind of pick our spots. And the reason we
pick New York is that because I live here, a
lot of people live locally, and it's easier to do
on a smaller scale. We have a usually a great
bar and exclude July thirtieth and the big premiere, because
that's not how we usually do it. If a great
bar here on the Upper east Side, the East End
bar and grill, if We had places like that in

(55:09):
other places, which is like, you know, we had one
in Nashville, we had one in Baltimore. But I'll admit,
like only about fifty people came out to those, and
that's just not something that's really worth doing. It's not
even strictly financially. It's just literally to take our time
and the bandwidth that some of us have, Derek, especially
with his kids, Me with my family. As much as
I travel already, I can't really just afford to toss

(55:30):
a couple extra Wednesdays in there if they're going to
be closer to fifty people showing up. And don't get
me wrong, we have close to one hundred, and it
would need to be close to one hundred people showing up.
That's a nice solid number. If I knew that we
had a city that was going to show up with
one hundred people on a Wednesday, we'd probably do a
viewing party there. The reason I know Phoenix is in
that city is we're not that much over one hundred
for that kick ass lineup I just named for Sunday,

(55:52):
September the seventh, So for whatever reason, and you know,
you guys begged, hey, can you bring Toy. Can you
bring Tory. We're bringing Tor, We're bringing Jody, We're bringing
I mean, I know some of these guys are local,
as you said, which is why the lineup is as
packed as it is, But I mean, I just think
that Phoenix, unfortunately, is not high on our list for
sort of forcing things in there past the maybe once

(56:14):
a year thing that we want to do because of
the Diamondbacks. So I would be shocked if you see
us in Phoenix outside of baseball season ever. But we're
coming on the seventh. We're looking forward to It's going
to be a great time. If I had to guess,
we'll probably be back next year because again, love doing
the stuff with the Diamondbacks, love Steph and all the
people over there, and they've been so gracious and great

(56:35):
to us. And we love the area. We love the
comedy club. Everything's walkable, the arena's there, stuff like that. So,
but as far as viewing parties, it's not specifically a
Phoenix thing. Wednesday is a tough not to crack Wednesday night,
specifically to do all the travel and the hooplah and
bring someone in. We really have to make sure that
a nice chunk of people are going to be able
to clear their schedule, take work off the next day,

(56:55):
or at least stay up late and be willing to
deal with a hangover, you know, for a couple hours
in the office on it Thursday to come see us.
And uh, most of the time, because we know the
ceiling is a little bit lower, we don't bust out
the big guns for a Wednesday. So look like this
Wednesday thing we did in New York. Again, we lucked
into a lot of those appearances. We lucked into the
Johnny element of it. You know, CT is someone we

(57:18):
we decided to bring in for that, but probably would
not be doing that for a random city on a Wednesday.
So it's like, I don't know that that many people
are really dying to get out on a Wednesday and
watch the challenge with which with let's say, like you know,
for you know, pretty solid cast members. I'll be honest, Like,
I'll give you an example we did. We did Nashville
with what I thought was a cool lineup. It was

(57:38):
you know, uh, uh Nourice and myself and Mark and
MJ and we had John Brennan and and just you
know about fifty people. You know, Uh, we did uh,
Baltimore once and we had Cyrus and we had Ashley
Kelsey and we had I want to say a Nissa
and again about fifty people and look, it's a really

(58:00):
all turnout. It's a fun, fun night. But it's just
one of those things where we just, you know, we
can't keep doing that just to see what sticks. Again,
if a situation arises where it makes sense, maybe, but
it's probably not gonna be Phoenix. It's probably not gonna
be Buffalo. And you know, as we look at these,
you know the responses and the turnouts for some of

(58:21):
these shows. Look again, you some of these you don't
know till you try other cities you do. Like again,
the first show we ever did in Phoenix, and granted
we had CT and Rossio and Reice coming off of
their rookie season. No, not Aritten to Reie. Sorry, we
had Arassio and Livia coming off their rookie season. CT.
I mean, I think that might have been the most

(58:41):
tickets we've ever sold for a single show, was it
that one? It was like close to five hundred people.
Then last year we come back to Phoenix, Sarah Rice,
Tony Rains, really cool lineup, but you know, probably sold
closer to one hundred and fifty two hundred tickets. Now
we're coming back a year later. I think again a
stacked lineup Tory deal, Jody the Tyson, you know, a
lot of first time guests with the Jody's and the

(59:03):
Tysons of the world, THEO making only a second challenge
many live appearance Tory deal, I think obviously a huge
headliner of a get Ben and Chavez, you know, and
we're you know, closer to one hundred and thirty tickets.
So look, I am transparent, not because I look for sympathy,
not because I'm trying to well, actually it is because
I'm trying to get a lot of guys off your ass.

(59:24):
If you're interested in us coming back to buy some tickets,
if you're free that day, I think you miss at
most one football game. But also if you're wondering why,
like you know, maybe we start to scale back the
appearances in Phoenix or again. Sam goes for Buffalo again,
and Buffalo is one of those places I have to
bring everybody, you know, ain't nobody living Buffalo. So bringing
Tory in, bringing bringing Mark in, bringing Anissan, bringing Michelle,

(59:48):
and bringing Devin and have to bring all them into Buffalo,
and it's a game weekend. Did not mean for this
to happen, but after we already put it on sale,
Paul McCartney added a show for the Friday. So hotels
are expensive, flights aren't cheap, and look as close as
it is to Canada, which I think is a plus,
and Niagara Falls and Buffalo is a great place, great people.
We love it there, we love the energy. Our sales

(01:00:09):
there have decreased every time we go, so it just
tells me, hey, look, we're falling in love with the Bills,
with the Diamondbacks, with coming these places, but the return
is starting to dissipate, whereas other cities it's the opposite.
Other cities, the attendance goes up. Other cities were able
to do twice a year, like Chicago. We did in May.
We're coming right back on to August thirty first, and
sold even more tickets to this than we did in May,

(01:00:31):
and both of them were great turnouts. New York we
did a July thirtieth, just a couple weeks after May fourth,
and both of them over three hundred tickets sold. So
I think that the trial and error of it all again.
We choose a lot of what we do based on
other stuff in the area, working with the teams, going
to concerts, things like that. That doesn't line up as
well most of the time during the week, you know,

(01:00:52):
which is why again we've sort of scaled back on
the viewing parties. Why make it hard for you guys,
Why make it hard for travel people? Why make it
hard for people who work on the week? And so
probably I don't even know if we're gonna do another
viewing party this year, but if we do, I can
assure you, sorry Shony Mariah, if you will, will not
be in Phoenix. But if you're listening to this and
you do run a bar or a place to be

(01:01:13):
conducive to doing a challenge many viewing party, that you
would give us the space on a Wednesday for free,
because free is the way to be. We love that.
Let me know because that always helps. And then what
I do is I kind of cross reference it with
other stuff in the area. Hey, is there something cool
to do on the Tuesday? And you never know, maybe
we will make it out there for another one, but again, sorry,
probably not in Phoenix. Paul says, what were your favorite

(01:01:33):
singers from episode zero man a couple episodes in the
can now after this. Sorry I did post this a
while back. I loved Sydney's stuff. I thought her commentary
was great, both in the interview chair and also in
the stuff with TJ I loved. I thought Cedric hats
some good stuff. Obviously the d and Johnny stuff. Your

(01:01:54):
mileage may vary on whether you thought that was cringe
or cute, but I thought, look, I thought a lot
of these one liners from the Rookies stood out to me.
So I'll go with Sydney saying she was a philanthropist
by even being there. Terra says, has d considered applying
to the Amazing Race? You're right, it is the closest
thing out there to road Rules. I'd love to see

(01:02:15):
him in another road ruler on it. So when you're
like reality TV talent, especially someone like Derek, you don't
really apply for the Amazing Race. Like it's one of
those things where they sort of come to you. They
for whatever reason, they do have people from CBS's orbit.
They rarely take people from the Challenge. You will be
seeing people from the Challenge on the next season of
Amazing Race. But that's because they also started on Big
Brother or whatever. So look, I would have to be

(01:02:38):
their idea, and whether it will be their idea, I
would lean towards no, But yeah, I think it'd be interesting.
Paul says, who do you think got the vacation alliance
and the split of Casey and Nanni? Tory, Devin, and
Anissa are all together planning the next trip? Do they
invite Nanni or Casey? Ooh, that's a tough one, man.
I'm gonna lean towards Casey. Yeah, Paul's says, but I

(01:03:02):
know nothing. I know actually know nothing, so it's hard
to say. But I would. I guess I would lean
towards Casey. I guess. Paul says, why do you think
the challenge can't just have it be pairs fighting pairs
and eliminations just drags out the game. Also, what is
stopping someone from picking someone they aren't aligned with them
and tanking the mission? Yeah, you could do that, and

(01:03:22):
I think we sort of sort of had a version
of that with Laurel and Emily on season forty. So yes,
I guess you could do that, right, We'll see if
it happens the season. I don't know. That it will,
but yeah, that is on the table, or at least
maybe they aren't even get they get paired with them.
They don't want to be paired with them, and they
do that. Yeah, there's nothing stopping that unless they're told

(01:03:43):
they can't off camera, but I don't think they've mentioned
it on camera. Yeah, I think pairs eliminations are cool.
To go back to the final reckoning, we had some
of those. I think even if it's even if it's
not a pair elimination, but it's just two pole wrestles,
one man and one woman, and then maybe if the
two one guy from this team wins but his partner loses,
then now it's a new team with the other two
where they both go back into the partner pool. Yeah,

(01:04:05):
I'm with you. I think the reason is they like
dragging this stuff out and elongating the seasons. Oscar says,
this isn't a question, just thank you for asking my
d question. She really went into detail with her answer,
and you had a lot to say, which is cool
to hear. Yes, thanks for the great questions for that episode.
She was great. I knew she was great. I knew
she would be great, which we had more time with
her and hopefully we will in the future. John says,

(01:04:26):
are you watching Big brother Thought so far? No, I
joked at Big Brothers in internship it totally. It totally is.
It's too much so I follow from afar on social media.
I know there's a guy named Keanu on it. Every
time I see the name Keanu doing this, I think
it's Keanu reeves it's not so. All right, one more
break from our sponsors. We're gonna come back and round
out the following questions and we'll say good nights and

(01:04:48):
good luck to you, and here we go. All right,
last batch of questions. Here shouts to you guys for listening.
If you made it this far, how about this email
Challenge Mania podcast at gmail dot com. Put challenge accepted
in the subject line in the body of the email.
Just give me your full name and your address. Can't
promise I can send to everybody, but I'm gonna send

(01:05:09):
out some Challenge Mania sticker packs to you guys because
I appreciate you guys who listen to this podcast. It's
a way for me to kind of dole out more
information and context for stuff than I can on the
usual podcast. Minderella says, we all know Zach has been
heavily against promoting anyone but himself. Seeing him pop up
on a Challenge Mania Live poster was unexpected for this maniac.
Any insights on his one to eighty I can't say

(01:05:33):
for sure. I know that I've been working on this
for years. I'm very open about getting along really well
with Pierre. He comes to our shows. I see a
lot of myself and him. I think he's a great guy.
He's a hustler. He uh you know, invests in himself,
invests in their in their product, and uh you know,

(01:05:54):
I I think what they're doing is really cool. I
subscribe to the high tides raise all boats things. So
yeah it I will admit that the idea that he
seemed so against coming on our podcast in the past,
then even since starting his own, coming on things like
that has has, you know, rubbed me the wrong way,
to certainly rub Derek the wrong way. You know, the
first time we did Challenge MANI and Live Detroit, he

(01:06:16):
happened to be out of town. I'll pretend that I
believe it for this one, though. You know, it is
one of those things where you know, I know that
look they would and look and I would love for
to be able to you know, work with them and
synergize with them and go and you know, when we're
out there, you know, we can do their podcast and whatnot,
and Zach can come on our podcast and things like that.
And I think, you know, for whatever reason, I think

(01:06:37):
eventually maybe the message kind of hit him that, you know,
this is a kind of door swings both ways business,
that it is a lot of favor trading. That if
you're gonna, you know, be relying on people to donate
their time to you and what you're doing, that it
would make sense to donate your time to them. So
for whatever reason, I think, you know, something maybe Pierre
really to him may be stuck. You know. I think

(01:06:57):
they're probably looking to and hopefully, uh want to have
some of our guests who are there for that show
on their show while they're up there. You know. I'll
give an example. So like Rogan, he was in the
States and he wanted to come and be a part.
He says, go to a Challenge Magnia for the for
the premiere. Uh, you know, and let's pretend you know,

(01:07:20):
obviously you know, it's not cool, uh saying anything about
a season before it airs, and in no way would
Rogan ever break his NDA and tell me anything about
his time on The Challenger or when it may or
may not end. But let's say hypothetically, Rogan was like, scot,
if you're doing something for the premiere, I've got to
be there. I might not be longing for this season
and I won't be able to make the most of

(01:07:41):
it whatever. Right, So, look, Rogan lives in the UK.
We love Rogan. It's not necessarily cost efficient to be
bringing someone in and out of the UK just to
be making an appearance. But once we scheduled the premiere party,
he was like, oh, falling away to beat that. Well,
the way he was here in the States was Zach
Pierre flew him in and out of Detroit to do
their show. They even flew him from Detroit to New

(01:08:02):
York to do our show. So you know, I think
there can be a lot of synergy there, and there is.
And so we're gonna be in Detroit. I mean, we
announced the show on almost a year's notice, So the
idea that there'll be a scheduling conflict, to me at
that point I would just be like, all right, I'm
not buying it. But so we're there that weekend. Again,
I'm sure they would love to have Wes on their show,
Mark on their show, you know, Nanny on their show,

(01:08:24):
things like that. But you know, the idea of doing
that or asking people to do that while not being
willing to make an appearance on our show probably doesn't
sit well, you know, with like you know, specifically the
Marx or the Dereks or you know me maybe, but
you know, maybe the guests they'd be asking, so maybe
you know, whoever's idea it was, whether it was Pierre's
or whether it was Zax or whomever. Yeah, that one

(01:08:45):
ad came, and I'm willing to embrace it because look, again,
I don't think anything comes for good comes from people
even thinking that there's some sort of animosity between people
who do similar things, and certainly is there's nothing good
that can come from legitimate animosity between people who do
similar things. You know, it doesn't make sense to me.

(01:09:08):
And I think that anyone who feels that way or
feels like they have to choose between our show or
their show or this or you don't have to. So
I love having him on our flyer, having him on
that show, I think It's a great way to show
that you don't have to choose specifically between us or them,
or Johnny's podcast or the Official Challenge podcast. We're all, yes,

(01:09:29):
doing similar things, talking about the same thing. But I
think all of our existence is you know, builds up
each other's existence because you know, yes, okay, Sure was
it a little easier when we were like the only
game in town and you know, when someone when an
episode aired, you know, we had our pick of the
litter of who to have on because there was no
one else booking them. Sure, but look, if I'm being honest,

(01:09:51):
we're five hundred episodes in and those are only the
numbered episodes. We're probably about fifteen hundred episodes in when
you include Patreon and things like that. We've had everybody
on five or six times, so we're already counterprogramming ourselves.
We've already done the damn thing with everyone almost once
or twice or four times. So to me, I will
say that for whatever reason, I don't know exactly what

(01:10:11):
got him to And I could say, like, at first
he kind of wanted to be a surprise, then he
hit me up. I didn't even didn't even say anything.
He goes nope, put me on the flyer. Actually I
changed my mind. And so for whatever reason, whether it's
he thinks it's good and I actually I mean, if
he does think this, I don't disagree. I think it's
great to have him on that flyer. It says a
lot about him. As as you're saying in this question, Minderella,

(01:10:34):
you feel like he's got this stigma and about not
promoting other people's stuff or going on other people's shows.
And look, some people might not care about that, but
clearly you do. Clearly some people do. Cast members do.
I know there are cast members who who don't want
to do their show or didn't want to do their
show because he doesn't, you know, go on other people's
show or at least appear that he would be willing to.
So maybe it's that, maybe it's just as people get older,

(01:10:58):
they get you know, more open to other things and whatnot.
I have no idea, don't really care either way. We
are thrilled to have him, happy to have him. Congrats
to him and Jenna, who just pumped out another kid,
so I guess you know one upping Lindsey and I
again breaking the tie there, but no shouts to them
and their beautiful family, and we're looking forward to having
them there at District one forty two on October fifth.

(01:11:21):
It's going to be a great show. Tickets at Challengemania
dot Live. All Right, Joel says, challenge question with the
conversations about an excess theme becoming more and more relevant
or prevalent either way, would you rather see that as
All Stars six or a Flagship forty two and what
would some of your dreamcastings on that be. I'd like
it as either one. So whatever I think makes it

(01:11:42):
feel like more of a real challenge, if you will.
So maybe that has to be Flagship or maybe I
just think they can kind of alter All Stars a
little bit to make it feel a little less less
than if that makes sense. Just to throw some out there,
Susie and Timmy, I think is a layup of a decision.
I know this is super super out there would never happen,
but mis and Kendall would be kind of cool. Hey,

(01:12:04):
the aforementioned Zach and maybe john A could be fun.
And then what if you get Jenna on there with Jay?
How about that? I mean Johnny and Mariah? I think,
is I mean talk about a train wreck or Johnny
and Morgan. I think would be cool. I think, uh hm,

(01:12:26):
I mean, she's clearly gone off the deep end and
has a lot of animosity, But you know, Wes and Teresa,
I think, uh it would be interesting because you know,
and I don't think it'll happen because clearly she's she's
really upset with them. But and then uh, Jordan and well,
I was gonna say Jordan and Nourice because Jordan and
Tory seems too obvious. But rumors are that maybe Nurice

(01:12:48):
and Rassio are broken up. I hope that's not the
case because I think that they are great together. But
if they, if they are, I wish them the best
and maybe them maybe they could be on there too.
Joel says, no challenge question. I know you're a big
Scream fan. Where do you fall with the I know
you did last summer reboot. I did not see it.
I did listen to a podcast that kind of spoiled
for me where it went and how it was. I

(01:13:10):
might catch it on a plane at some point. That
was never my movie. If there wasn't so much coming
out in July, I maybe would have seen it. But
because there was, it just like kind of moved to
the back of my queue, and then I ended up
listening to a podcast about it, and since I kind
of had it ruined for me, I'll probably skip it.
But yeah, that was never really my movie. On par
with Scream, Mike says, when it comes to pasta sauce,

(01:13:31):
what do you call it sauce or gravy. I'm a
sauce guy. I just don't call it gravy. I think
that's more of an Italian thing and I am not that.
But I'm also I will say, as far as marinera
or vodka sauce, I'm a vodka sauce all the way.
So when I make pasta at home and I go
