will be there. We've got Justin and Jeremy, who I'm
sure we'll talk about in this podcast, and more guests
(01:18):
to be annown.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
So go to challenge.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
We need to dot live for that and all tickets.
All right, you didn't come for me, you came for
d Derek did a little better this episode. I'm sure
we're not gonna talk much about that because there are
other OG performances to discuss.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
But Derek but could pretty.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Good this episode. Ma Mayolosa and I paint what I
can get this was. This was a good one for me.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Unfortunately, my partner, America did u was was arguably just
as afraid of of of of of playing Donkey Kong
is as our as our own household Donkey Kong in
you know, ct was. But you got to give her credit,
Like I assume that since you know, she had been
(01:58):
practicing the rock climbing and stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
That you know, maybe she would have done a little
bit better. But it's okay.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
I'm still kind of proud of her for uh, you know,
making making the trip to get one one of the ruins.
I had to actually, uh, I got four of them,
and I was on my third or something like that,
and I walked over and I could see that she
was afraid, and I crawled over and I kind of
held her hand to go down and say it was okay.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
She just couldn't get down, and I thought that she could.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
She felt comfortable going down and coming up and getting one,
and then after that she she did pretty well on
the puzzle. So, you know, not not the strongest performance
by a team, but you know, obviously not the worst,
and we can't got some points, so Matt.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Matt wrote in over a challenge maniacs dot com, where
you can always submit interview questions for our guests, also for.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
These bonus podcasts.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
After you watch the episodes, Matt says, Hey, Derek and Scott,
just wondering, I saw other competitors complimenting Derek throughout the daily.
Was Derek's time close to the winning time in his opinion?
And did America slow him down? I don't know if
you want to throw her under the bus, but okay.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
I mean I think she'd throw herself under the bus.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
This wasn't this wasn't like the thing that she was
going to be the strongest at but I know that
she felt very confident going into it. She said that
she had been signed up to be in a rock
climbing wall or something a gym or something like that,
so you know, I felt good about you know this,
you know, being you know, she's probably about five times
lighter than CT, and the lighter you were in this competition,
(03:26):
the better chances you were at doing well, so obviously
suited suited me as well.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
I just think that, you know, the the winning time
versus my time, Uh, it always matters where you are
in the order. Uh, just like where we were in
the order in you know, the swimming challenge, with the
climbing wall, it mattered here a lot of times it matters.
(03:55):
And and you have to give credit to Sidney and Lee.
Really a lot of credit to Leo because he came
up with the winning strategy, which was to pull up
the net and not climb up and down the net.
A lot of people were having trouble with the net.
I did pretty pretty well with it, but once people
saw Leo grab the net and pull it up, they
(04:19):
were like, that's the strategy.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
We don't even have to use the net. We don't
even have to climb on the net.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
When I went, I sort of grabbed the net, went
over there, unhooked it, and then climbed all the way
back up it.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
You saw some people.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
Climb down the net, grab the ruin, jump into the water,
swim over and climb back up the ladder right like.
So there were different strategies going on early on. But
then Leo was the first one to.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Be like, I'm not gonna climb up this net at all.
I'm not going to use it at all. This is
the hardest part.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
And he pulls it up, gets it and then they
smash it and then Sydney does her part on the
on the female end. So was our time close to
the winning No did we? I think we finished like seventh,
you know, to be honest with you, because once they
figured out after Leo that you can just pull up
the net, it was it was like the cheat code
(05:15):
that you know everyone needed. Uh So, yeah, I mean,
you know, the only thing I can hang my hat
on is is doing four. Obviously, the the the big
story is Leka doing five and CT doing zero.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Yeah, well, look, okay, this is I think we had
a couple of weeks ago. You know, the big story
was was Johnny Bananas, you know, which we talked about
a little bit on stage in Chicago. And if you
guys are wondering our thoughts on the whole Chicago show, which,
by the way, you can listen to right now. If
you're hearing this on the main feat, it's already up
on the main feed. It's also up ad free at
(05:51):
challengemaniacs dot com. Full uncut audio audio from Saturday show
Awesome paneled car, Maria, Brad, Ryan Keho, Mark, Derek, myself
and of course the Power Couple. Devin and Michelle talked
a lot about Johnny Bananas, whether or not he is
the challenge and look, Internet's wondering, uh, you know, dere
was Devin really upset. We don't want to get too
(06:13):
much into it here, you got you guys can go
and listen to it yourself. We've since talked to Devin,
we've smoothed it over, but you guys can go check
out that episode now. We maybe maybe Derek and I'll
give our thoughts on it in the Patreon section of
this episode. But we were talking a lot about Johnny
Bananas because his season obviously ended early, taken out at
the hands of Gabe. Then we have Ben obviously in
(06:34):
the middle there, losing to Derek Schavaz. But here we
are in week six and everyone's talking about CT.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Everyone's talking about his performance in this.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Daily how it eventually affects Leka and her time on
this season, and then this big blow up with Turbo
that has been teased out in many A trailers. So
episode three and four we're talking a lot about Johnny Bananas.
Here we are episode six talking about CT. Now D
you're catching some strays as well here. I don't know
if you've seen when people are talking about the vet's
(07:03):
performing this season or the lack thereof your picture's floating
around too. I'd say, maybe give you this week off
because you did pretty well this episode.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
But walk me through this.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
Obviously everyone wants to get our thoughts on CT his
performance in this Daily Challenge. You were one of the
people who were speaking during interviews about this, talking about
how blown away you are by the performance. But you
were there last season season forty when he almost had
to go home because of a pretty dastardly fall.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
So walk us through this.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
What was going through your head watching someone you've known
for so long top of his game obviously towards the
bottom of it in this one.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
Well, look first and foremost, I felt like during this episode,
like our age really was showing like the depletion of
a veteran superiority. It is sort of depleting, right, Like
this is an athletic, a super athletic event where uh,
(08:01):
you know, it's athletic, and then you have the puzzle.
But even during the puzzle portion, like you see someone
like like Anissa, who's who's you know, does pretty well
at puzzles kind of you know, even lose to Leka's uh,
you know, Leka's five, you know, and and and she
gets the puzzle done before Anissa and Gabe get it done.
(08:21):
The one thing I'll say is this, you're all of
the rookies are partnered with a vet.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
So and and and and.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
Depending on the day and depending on the daily Like you,
it's hard to tell who's better at a certain thing
than the other.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
But during this particular event, like, yeah, you saw.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
Like ct slowed way down, You saw lee Roy slowed
way down. You know, those were the bottom it was.
It was Leroy and easy who again we're thinking easy
is like a super superhero superstar, you know, based on
what she did up that.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
Mountain, and and.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
Sarm being yelled at right now for yelling what the fuck? Sorry,
excuse me. So so you see kind of Leroy and
CT at the bottom of this thing really having trouble.
But you see, you know, how much did Easy do to,
you know, to to make this happen. Uh. And then
later on we do see Izzy in some hot water.
She's one of those people that's that's essentially aligned heavily
(09:31):
with Olivia. But you see the rookies, you know, making
their like rookie revolution stance. And what you don't see
also is like the Vets are trying to do that
on our bus too.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Hey.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
You know it's the whole like no vet on vet
crime type of stuff like that's supposed to be quiet.
And then you kind of see Leroy opening it up
and letting the rookies know that the Vets are not
trying to take each other out.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
And a guy like Leo that seems to be pretty
street smart, it's picking up.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
On that and he's going, wait, man, you guys are
trying to do no vet on vet crime here. You
know what's going on here and he picks up on it,
and now it's this no, they're doing their own you know,
no rookie on rookie crime. And it's because like we're
letting the cat out of the bag. Yes, at this point,
we're all.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
Trying to play, you know.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
Rookies or vets, try to keep it together here, try
to keep it together here, right, and you kind of
see that it's starting to crack this episode. You see
it's really starting to crack. And you gotta give the
rookies credit here because they.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
Kind of they kind of instigate this.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
Turbo versus CT fight and that's a big deal, you know,
like like we're the vetters trying to stay together and
you see, you know, you know, guys like CT and Turbo.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Now going against each other and feuding.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
Like that's a big crack in the veteran Iceberg on
top of what we're seeing with Olivia versus you know, Anissa, Sorry,
I don't even know if.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Let's start okay, let's start at back, because look, you're
you're right that this whole trickle down effect and you know,
we're talking about this daily here comes down to team
Lee Roy team CT.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Even though Leka did better on her own.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
The fact that CT didn't really do anything at all
drags them down to last place.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Leka ends up going in.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
Now, as you mentioned, the rookies do a great job
orchestrating in Olivia versus a Nissa vote and they make
sure that a Vet goes in.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
It ends up being Olivia.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Olivia beats Leka, and now we got everybody you know
holding up signs justice for Leca, justice for Leka. And
as you mentioned, Turbo is the one out there with
his trumpet. You know, he's the most outspoken about it. Ironically,
even though he's a VET. So this whole no Vet
on Vet crime. Do you feel like Turbo feels like
a vet, plays like a vet, aligns like a vet,
(12:08):
or does he have a little bit of the chip
on his shoulder that the New Threats have because he's
always kind of been an outsider to you guys on
these seasons. Obviously, he goes and wins his first season,
but when he comes back for a Rider dies.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
He's picked off almost immediately.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
I wonder, you know, obviously he played recently on All
Stars as well. I wonder does he because he's as
offended by CT's performance as a new threat would be.
You hear he's almost speaking the same way a Jeremy is,
whereas you guys feel a little bit more compassionate to
him what he went through last season because you guys
have the rapport with him. Feels like Turbo and CT
(12:45):
don't have that rapport, you know, does it feel like
Turbo is? I don't want to say another number for
the new threats, but at least someone who is more
sympathetic to their causes than you guys are or should be.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
I think this.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
I think that everyone is kind of playing each other, right,
and and in in this moment, he's he's sort of
being instigated and and kind of pushed into a situation
where he needs to choose good versus evil, I guess
in some ways, right, And I think that this the
situation with Turbo.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
Is this the second he feels disrespected, he's gone.
Speaker 4 (13:22):
He's jumping off that ship, and he's moving towards the
people that he feels respect from.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
I don't I don't know if.
Speaker 4 (13:29):
That's you know, his sort of like king Kingship, you know,
sort of mantra that he feels, you know, where like
he is he is the alpha, He is the top
of the food chain and everyone else is sort of
you know, you know, either you know, equal or you know,
just beneath his his respect.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
And uh and and so uh what let me tell
you where it started.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
Okay, So this this little you know, this little seed
started from the episode where we're where we're digging digging
the the football episode, right the the one where we
have to kick the field goal, the one where we
have to dig uh dig out the polls and then
and then and then bury the and then and then
bury uh the bottoms of the pole rungs and then
(14:16):
put up the goalposts. So I guess at that point,
CT gets uh, you know, thinks that or the word
gets out, the birdie gets out that CT says that
he thought that Sydney was kind of sand bagging and
that maybe she was trying to throw the challenge last week.
So I think that she gets offended by that. She
(14:39):
puts he she starts putting the birdie in in in
uh uh you know, in Turbo's ear that that it's
it's it's possible that you.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
Know what, what maybe he threw this.
Speaker 4 (14:52):
Challenge, if I maybe threw the challenge last week. According
to his standards. Maybe I wasn't trying as hard as
he thought I should be trying. Last week, Well, how
the tides have turned. Is he trying his best? Is
he not trying as hard as he can? Or did
he just throw it?
Speaker 2 (15:09):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (15:10):
So you put that out there for these rookies aka
hyenas as CT puts it, and they're they're eating it.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Man.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
They're like, listen, they're golden boy, they've.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Already lost their seven time champ.
Speaker 4 (15:26):
Why not we go after the the five time champ
at his lowest, knowing that they can all beat him
up a wall, in a swim, in a run.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (15:38):
Oh, and he's not playing the game, you know, very nicely.
Oh yeah, let's get him, Turbo. Turbo, Hey, this was
not good, right, He's not This was not good. This
was not nice, Turble. Do you think that he threw it?
And you could see me talking to him on the
bench because I'm trying to keep I'm trying to keep
the VET nucleus kind of together, and and Turbo's asking me,
(16:02):
is he is he doing that ship on purpose?
Speaker 3 (16:05):
And I'm like, nah, dude, he just can't get up
the rope.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
I don't think he can get up the rope right
like Scott, and you could put yourself in in CT shoes.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
All right, you're calling, but okay, sure, yes you're okay, Sang.
We both wear big shoes. I get it. What's what's what? Scott?
Speaker 4 (16:20):
What what's what? What's the okay? If you're gonna climb
up this ladder, right, okay.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
And so it would be very tough for me as well.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
Okay, So now say say you go, you give it
everything you have, right, say CT. Maybe CT doesn't try
as hard, right, I'll throw that out there. I'll go
on record and say this. I don't think he threw
the challenge. But also maybe he didn't try as hard
as he possibly could. Because if he makes it halfway
up there or three quarters of the way up there,
(16:50):
what do you the dangers of what can happen? You
could see his this guy's right, go through one of
these ladder, go through one of the ladders and just
get stuck up. They're upside down hanging. Then what then
you got a hold, you're.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
Touching, you're touching on you're touching on this. Tara wants
to know.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
Look, Derek, you said during the episode you didn't think
CT could get up the ladder, And after witnessing and
hearing CT chuck afterwards, do you also believe that he
could not get up or was it trauma based from
last season everything that went down him having to go
in the ambulance from the big fall last season? Is
that what you're getting at that it's kind of like
he's weighing the pros and cons here, and the pros
(17:30):
are I give it a valiant effort and I maybe
get halfway up.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
The cons are I fall again? You know it's even worse.
Who knows what the repercussions are.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
Yeah, yeah, I think it's both.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
I think that he goes and he feels it out
and he's like, oh shit, I this is I this
is about as far as I could go. But now,
but now if I go, like if I really really
really give it everything, I have to the point where
like my hands are going to give out. Like first
of all, it's like it's a high. It's high up,
you know, and like the last time you fell off
(18:02):
of off of a heights challenge on the challenge, like
it was higher than we've ever gone, and he backflipped
and he felt awkwardly like people got concussed that that challenge,
like Casey got concussion, Like we were falling very very awkwardly,
And I think that he probably thought that if.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
He gets up there three quarters of the way.
Speaker 4 (18:27):
Dude on top of like, if you made it all
the way up, Scott, you still have to pull yourself
up on a flat platform.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
Yeah, Like no, I look, look, I will say, I
understand and can relate to the idea of you're doing
something and immediately you realize, oh, there's no way I
can do this, right, especially when it's like body weight
based like get I'll give an example, right, Like I
can't do a lot of pull ups, right, I can
maybe do one or two. Right, it's based on A.
I don't do a lot of pull ups, and B
(18:55):
I'm such a you don't see a lot of really
big motherfuckers doing pull up so right. So the reason
is is because the weight you're having to pull up
is just astronomical. Right, I could tell within two seconds
if I'm gonna be able to do a pull and
if I'm not, why I don't sit there for twenty
minutes trying.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
I know I can't. What's the point, right?
Speaker 2 (19:12):
So I think the reason everyone's getting on him for
maybe being more a little bit more economical with his efforts,
but also his risk is because it ends up affecting Leka. Now,
I'd love to know, and this is a great question
that came in basically how much he knew about how
much it would affect Lecca Mary, says Derek. There have
been so many dailies where one partner carries the other
(19:35):
and they let it fly. Why all of a sudden
would Leka have to go in even though she finished?
Was this made clear beforehand? So was it made clear
that had he maybe gone a little further it could
have affected her finish? Or was that sort of semantics
that played out at the end, because they even make
it seem like, hey, look she fit.
Speaker 4 (19:54):
You know, I don't knoweah, yeah, no, I agree, I
mean I get it like a lot of times like
we don't really know, like we can ask some questions,
but like in the end, it's like up to their
discretion on like the rules that they put in place,
Like when when Leo decides to pull up the net
instead of climbing up.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
And down it, Like I'm like, what the fuck is that?
Speaker 1 (20:17):
Like?
Speaker 3 (20:17):
Is that is that?
Speaker 4 (20:18):
Are they going to disqualify him, like you know, maybe
they didn't. They didn't say you couldn't do that, but
you know, they're also not telling you the strategy, you know, So.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
I think they do sometimes.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
Look, I'll be honest, it's one of those things where
and again I'm one who I always say when people
bring up controversy and roll, do you think they make
it up on the fly or what they want to
happen and this and that. But I do think that
they often do have a choice where if they haven't
made it adamantly clear beforehand, they could say, all right,
do we make this about the fact that Leka crushed
(20:55):
it and so she still wins? Or does this story
feel like it should be this, you know, twenty year
veteran not looking his best and the effect that does
then have on his partner who clearly looks like she
is at her best. And my point is that I'm
not saying they decided it because of that, but that
is a hell of a through line narrative to you know,
(21:16):
And again it ends up being that Leka goes home.
She could have very easily, not very easily, but she
could have beaten Olivia.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
And we're not.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
Talking about this with hashtag justice for Leka, like we are.
But my point is is that I feel like, just
watching from afar, it is a bit tragically poetic that
you have this young gun new threat doing as well
as anyone did on the challenge, and then this guy
who's a five time champion, clearly not at his best,
(21:44):
clearly not able or willing to even put forth an
effort that could possibly have inched them into second to
last place.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
But did he know? Did he know it would have
had that effect on his young spride partner? Does he care?
Clearly he's put out some statements. It seems like now.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
At least he cares in the moment, though, did he
even have the ability too, if he cared, try a
little bit harder to get up there?
Speaker 1 (22:14):
I personally don't think so.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
I don't think it was him taking one off just
because who cares it's a girl's day.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
I don't think it's that.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
I think the guy obviously had the thing last season,
body weight stuff on a flimsy ladder like that.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
I mean, like I'm just saying, you know, but so.
Speaker 4 (22:30):
But he and he like he attempted, I think like
like ten times like he it's not like he just
like went up, you know, one time, two times and
then just stayed in the water. I think he I
think he went up like and fell like seven to
ten times something like that. I'm not sure if that's
that's exactly the exact number. But it's not like he
(22:52):
didn't try. It's like he like I can already see it,
like I can already see this dude getting like halfway
up there, which might be all he could do.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
And then as he's trying.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
To like not fall, that leg just slipping through and
him just being hanging hanging upside down with the way
he the way he has on one leg through that thing,
like it just looked dangerous.
Speaker 3 (23:14):
Did he know that?
Speaker 4 (23:15):
I think the question was did he know if he
didn't go up the ladder whether they'd be in last place?
Speaker 3 (23:21):
I don't well, And that also, I.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
Will say it's imp is impossible to know that another team,
for instance, wouldn't have just done worse.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
Like but I'm you know, so I got to give
him the benefit of the doubt there.
Speaker 4 (23:33):
But yeah, but yeah, but look, but look, Leroy made
it up the ladder, right, Leroy maybe got one you know,
I think you know, is he is he also did
did well.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
