Speaker 1 (00:13):
What's up, everybody?

Speaker 2 (00:14):
This is Scott Yeager here with another Challenge Mania episode breakdown.
That's right, season forty one all the way behind us,
but we've got two parts of a reunion to talk.

(00:55):
Both of them feature wes Bergman That is going to
be on March first, and both are on sale now.
All right, you didn't come for me, You came for
d and if you came to the reunion for D Man,
you must have had a magnifying glass out there looking
for you. In that reunion, I think I caught one
or two soundbites from you, my friend, as you hold
up a really cool custom Bucko pop that you got recently.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
What's up, buddy?

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Oh you love to bust my chop? Not getting that
air tipping.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
I gotta tell you, I gotta tell you the funniest
part about that. But go ahead, but yeah, yeah, did
you expect to be featured a little bit more? Halfway
through here?

Speaker 3 (01:30):
You think no, no, But I mean the biggest pop
was obviously uh about you know, Johnny being the challenge
and the only pushback he got back from anybody was
me and CT.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
So in reality, you guys were.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Actually very pragmatic with your pushback by the way you were.
You were complimenting him while also saying, you know, maybe
we're all the challenge in a way. If any one
person is, maybe it's you, But it's the collective really,
you know.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
Yeah, I mean, I mean, uh, I mean it really
kind of stole the show if you ask me, Uh,
I mean, unless you count, like you know, Gabe getting ridiculed.
I mean, and then you obviously got the the whole
uh you know, you know CT versus Turbo. That's kind
of coming up. We got Derek fake as fuck uh

(02:19):
in the building. I'd rather be this Derek getting this
camera time that.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
I got you.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
I mean, I mean, give me a break. Yeah, where
you know what I mean? Like where you where? Where?
Where do you want to sit?

Speaker 1 (02:33):
What?

Speaker 3 (02:33):
What seat would you want to be in? Whose seat
would you want to be in? In in that whole situation.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
By the way, I love that clip of Justin like
who's he talking to? Like a producer on screen? Like
backstage He's like, wait a minute, you put me right
next to Gabe and Javaz Like what do you guys?
And it's like first rodeo obviously, Like that's that's kind
of what they do, is right, don't They kind of
put you with the uh, with the people that are
gonna want that one shot of you looking back?

Speaker 1 (02:57):
What the hell you're saying that kind of thing.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
So Justin's got a good seat. I'd say, like if
I was, if I was an outsider looking in and
I was like, man, I wonder whose situation I'd like
to be in? It'd probably be like cts, right, Like,
I got a lot of CT in this one, you know,
and I mean I mean the guy, the guy does
his job stealing the show. I mean he he he

(03:20):
really does you know.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
We ever see I mean that was like I thought,
you know that he's wearing costumes, he's doing you know,
improv or whatever that was.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
It was.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
It was a very jovial CT. We obviously we got
both sides of the CT coin. We got we got
goofy performative CT obviously making fun of some people throughout
the season, but everybody's in on.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
It's a very fun little segment.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
And then we got the preview for what segues us
in the next week between him and Turbo, clearly still
at odds over their their stuff.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
A lot to unpack here, a lot to talk about.
I joked at the top that you know, you mentioned
that I like to talk about you not being shown.
Am I wrong? Or is this maybe gonna come up again?

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Because I may have heard for through the grapevine it
might have been you that that Sidney was asked like,
who here doesn't have a brain?

Speaker 1 (04:07):
And I thought that she said you so when she
says that, I.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Go up here, we go now Derek's come it and
they just go to Jake and then that's it.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
There was no there was no uh. She went to
Jake and then she and then she decided to go
go more right right, so, but the only response she
got really was was a back and forth with Jake,
and it was it was pretty like, uh, pretty pretty
somber there because really like Jake, you may not hear

(04:38):
from Jake at all, I mean after this. So but yeah,
then she went to Will and then she went to me,
and they didn't they didn't ask, they didn't like, they
didn't ask.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Well, I think they were setting up the whole but
I think I think similarly like with Johnny and Johnny
I think had kind of one of the moments of
the episode is He's expense where he reads the whole
thing and what what what is it? Who is a
waste of time or whatever? And why was it easy?
Or whatever? The question was, right, I forget what it
was was something like that, right.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Who doesn't deserve a callback? Who does? Who deserve a callback?
Who is Izzy?

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (05:10):
And I think sometimes when people start to list more
than one person, it takes away a little bit of
that I just name it one person, right, because if
they're like, hey, who here doesn't have a brain, and
she's like Jake Derrek kay Will, then it's like, all right, well, now,
clearly she feels that way about a lot of people.
But if she just throws out Jake and then boom,
she takes one on the chin and then we move on,
then it's like, oh wow, she must really think Jake

(05:32):
is dumb. So similarly with the with the with the
izzy moment, we're there and people sticking up Crazzy, but
that was pretty uh.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Well this, I mean just you just wait till she
gets her hang now. I mean it is a mind
blowing response. So you know she's no, she's uh, you know,
gotta you know, she's the smartest one in the room.
She's the best, she's the smartest, she's the funniest, she's
the most witty right in her mind.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Let me find this question because where was it speaking
to people not being in the room?

Speaker 1 (06:08):
All right, And I didn't put all these questions in
the threat.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
Oh you're referring to Ashley.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Yeah right here, Julia says, do you think Ashley was
throwing shade at Kara? Maria specifically during that one part
where she says that, look at who's not here. Clearly,
if they weren't asked to be at the reunion, they're
not interesting enough to be asked back for future seasons.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
I know I have my take, but.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
You know, like in my mind when she said that,
like the first person that came to mind was Kara.
Now I don't think I don't think it was because
Ashley was taking a shot at Kara, because the last
thing I saw with Ashley when Kara was leaving was
a few of us, a handful of us, kind of

(06:54):
like really being at Cara's you know, side a shoulder,
a shoulder to to lean onto, crime to open up to. Right,
she was one of those people when when when Karl left.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
So that's also that's a very like unifying moment that
kind of like supersedes even I think even the biggest
of rivals and whatnot. And I don't even think they're
necessarily big rivals to begin with. But probably not the
best time to gauge where they're footing is when she's
obviously leaving to go take care of her of her mom,
because because if I had to then go play Devil's
advocate that happened, and when you know, February or March,

(07:28):
A lot has happened since then, and I don't really
know where they the two of them stand. I saw
a few people on social media theorizing that maybe they
don't job, they don't have like the same politics. If
you will you know that, maybe maybe that's what And
and also I do remember at the time, and some
people don't like people who don't share their politics.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Not saying I agree with that, but.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
But to be fair to play Devil's advocate on a
whole different side, like if you weren't invited, you're like
obviously like you you weren't you know, important enough to
the I.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Would Car is the exception though, because to me, Car
went home early, early, early, and she went home for
a personal reason that has nothing to do with the game.
She didn't really have any storylines developed, but not in
a bad way. She just was there for such a
short amount of time. Sure I would argue that it
would be like a waste of having her there, Like

(08:27):
how would you even shoehorn her into these discussions?

Speaker 3 (08:30):
You know, how do you how do you show horn
in any of these people? Well, you are how do
you shoot, how do you shoehorn? Jakin, how do you shoehorn?
You know, Anissa's been there. She hasn't said one freaking word.
She was there the entire season.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
Well did she?

Speaker 2 (08:45):
Because it Well, so let me ask you because so
you go and you film these over the course of
what two whole days?

Speaker 1 (08:49):
Right, basically spend two days or is a one day?

Speaker 3 (08:51):
It's uh, it's two days.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
Two days, So you're filming at several hours, right, They've
been cut it down. They cut it down to about
one hundred and twenty minutes total over two two weeks.
And there's a lot of you who have to talk, right,
and there's a lot of you got and there's a
lot of jokey stuff and this and whatever. So it's like,
you know, when you end up seeing the final product,
you're probably seeing i'd imagine a fraction of how you know?

Speaker 3 (09:13):
Sure?

Speaker 1 (09:14):
So so what so you were there? What wasn't need
to talk? No?

Speaker 3 (09:18):
So it's either like I feel like there's a lot
more Olivia Mikayla conversation that like we haven't seen a
lot a lot of them hashing it out. There was
you know a lot of turbo and THEO hashing that.
I'm sure that that'll be in part two. There's you know,
the you know more ct and Turbo more and uh.

(09:43):
But the thing is that these reunions, if you're not
directly being asked a question, like if Devin isn't directly
asking me, who's on you know, the the end of
the seating table, maybe she even forgets it on there.
Unless there's a specific question to ask me, I have
to jump in interject myself into a situation that I

(10:04):
may not necessarily be involved in, or a conflict that
I may not necessarily involved in be involved in, for
my opinion to matter or to make sense or to
even make air. So there, you know, so this isn't like, uh,
you know, like Kara could have been very easily a
firestarter Ben as you can see, like although not there,

(10:34):
he jumps into one of these situations just because he's
got some smart ass comment to say that shit may
make air, and very much so the way Kara moves,
the way Kara postures herself like she just might not
like the way you said something and speak up and
it's you know, it goes viral.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
Let me say this, right, so I agree with with
Ashley's sentiment in that we've seen in the past, like
if you're really somebody like, they'll find a way to.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
Get you there, even if you were out early. Right.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
So they found a way to get Amanda onto that
forty reunion stage, even if it's putting her in a
goofy outfit giving her own chair, right.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
But I will say.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
That she's right in that for the as far as
the season goes, the way they do this is it's
pretty it's a pretty practical, pragmatic way of doing it.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
Right.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
They have a cutoff point where for the most part,
everyone who was voter off before this point wasn't really invited, right,
with the one exception maybe being Johnny Bananas, right, or
was Johnny Bananas the cutoff point?

Speaker 1 (11:31):
Either way?

Speaker 2 (11:32):
Naya's not there. Either way, Ben's not there. You know
a lot of the earlier exits are not there. And
so so by the token of hey, we've only got
one hundred and twenty minutes to talk about a season,
and like the eight of you or whatever that aren't invited.
We're not there to see Olivia win, or we're not
there to see Ashley and Anissa fight, or Turbo and
CT to fight or what have you, and so it

(11:54):
does kind of make sense to not have them at
the reunion. Whether that means that they're also not important
enough to have on season forty two, I don't know
if that's necessarily the case either, But it is also
fair in that when you've got sixteen new rookies, if
all you got to show us was in four or
five episodes, you probably don't have as good of a
case as a Will or a Leo or a Jearremye
or a whomever, or you know, a D or whomever.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
So she's kind of right.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
I just don't think it applies to Carl Maria, Like
I think Carl Maria is a every season call, or
at least on the board for every season, regardless of
whether she goes out episode four or five or six.
Even if she had gotten taken out in the hall
brawl by Ashley An episode four, I still think they
call it for the next season.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
So I don't think it has anything to do with
Carl Maria.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
I think it does maybe have something to say about
some of the other people, just based on it's gonna
be hard to get called back if you're out that
soon to be out to be honest.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
Almost your Amanda.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
So again there's Achayla or Mikayla Kayla call back after
going out episode one, so.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
Well, the callbacks of coming out leaving episode one, Like
even Carl Maria is one of those people that got
you know, eliminated episode one on her first season and
you know she became a mainstak.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
Yeah so Rogan, by the way, Rogan not but did
get a mention?

Speaker 1 (13:09):
I think was it?

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Johnny says that the only interesting thing is he did
was make out Rogan.

Speaker 3 (13:16):
And again, if you don't get any pushback on this,
I am the challenge shit like that. That clip is
not you know, is as potent as it as it's
on on online right now.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
So it was a good I think it's Look, I
think this is what I said about it because someone
was asking me like, hey, what do you think about this,
and I go, I think it's a great quote. So
it doesn't need to be true or not. It doesn't
need to even be possible. It's a great quote because
the idea, because I'll put it to you, there's only
maybe two people who could even say it right, who

(13:46):
could even stomach saying it right.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
CT would probably never say it.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
And then Johnny of course said it right, and like,
so the idea that he says it, and then it
brings up the debate of can any one person be
the challenge?

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Right? And I go, I so.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
If he says it, and if it's a sentence, then
I get apparently we're putting it out there. So it's
like it is an interesting debate whether you love the
guy or hate the guy if one person is probably him, you.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
Know, it's like it's like a breath the Hitman heart.
The best is the best there was and the bester
ever will be. Was he was he I don't know,
it's up for debate, but he fucking said it every
single time he got on the mic. It was awesome.
But again, you know, very debatable, especially coming from you know,
the people that came before Johnny, the people that really

(14:32):
paved the road, the people that couldn't you know, continue
you know, this journey because of uh, you know, because
of the way the challenge was structured back then. You know,
the people that really you know, put the challenge on
the map, you know, would you know, really you know,
you got to think about those people, you know. So
that's why I don't think the people that came after him,

(14:55):
that's not even a debate to them, you know, like
like a leroy of the world. You know, he called
them a legend. Of course he's a legend. But there's
lots of legends, you know. That's that calling someone a
legend is not you know, calling them you know one entirety.
But I get it, and it was great, and it
was awesome that CT came out gave him a cactus

(15:15):
to finish out this segment. I thought, I thought it
was awesome real.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
Quick, while we're still in the free preview, want to
give a cactus to Devin Simone for hosting her first
reunion after years of hosting the podcast and several after
shows and things like that. I just think, flat out,
even watching an hour of this, I think, you know,
for whatever reason, the decision was finally made.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
I just think, like it's just night and day.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
You can tell that she's someone who has watched every
episode of this season, has talked to many of you
guys at least through October when you guys filmed. This
has so much added context for things, is able to
kind of, you know, throw throw an extra side question there.
Follow up nowhere to go with it, just by nature
of it being part of her year round gig, more
so than it is for even a Maria Minunos, who

(15:58):
I'm sure watches the show to cert degrees or these.
I mean the little celebrity host experiment thing. I think
we know why that has. You know, such a negative
can have such a like, in my opinion, a negative
effect on a reunion. So I think just like awesome
decision for them to finally do that. I think they'll
they'll realize it was, you know, three years too late,

(16:19):
because not not overall, but I'm saying good that they
finally did it. But I mean, now the whole reunion
is a walking ad for their podcast, the Official Challenge Podcast,
So I mean, why they were giving two hours of
airtime to like the tight end on the forty nine
ers before is beyond me. But finally they figured it out, Hey,
why don't we have one of our people do this?

Speaker 3 (16:38):
So yeah, she did an absolutely awesome job. And like
I was, I told you off air, maybe I maybe
I told her off air that it's about time that
they gave some one of us a keys to the
to the hosting chair because for such a long time.
I remember her coming on our Patreon episodes back then
when we when she was like a big get, you know, and.

Speaker 2 (16:59):
That was doing that actually do those aftermaths for the
whole season, and then for the reunion. They'd give it to,
I mean, no Offense but you know, Nate Purlson, or
they'd give it to no offense but Swaggy p or whatever,
dolfh Ziggler, whomever.

Speaker 1 (17:12):
And I honestly, now that I'm thinking about it, I'm now.

Speaker 2 (17:15):
Realizing probably what changed, and it's that now that I'm
realizing it, I feel like only in the last couple
of seasons has Devin become the host of the Official
Challenge podcast. I'm forgetting that like Tory and Anissa more
or less hosted in some capacity the first few and
I don't think they would have ever had one of
them hosts because they're on the seasons. So I think

(17:36):
now that Devin has become sort of the face of
the Official Challenge podcast along with Davon. Davon just played
on All Stars five. Devin feels like this perfect scenario
of past cast member knows all you guys looks like
a million bucks is a professional host anyway, she fills
in for Wendy Williams all the time, and she's out
there interviewing you guys, and she's a walking billboard for

(17:57):
the podcast that now she's as associated with as Torri
and Anissa. So now that I'm thinking about it, it
makes triple the sense now that it did before because
those other seasons she wasn't necessarily.

Speaker 1 (18:09):
The host of the podcast.

Speaker 2 (18:10):
But for whatever reason they came to the conclusion, glad
they finally did.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
She absolutely crushed it.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
And uh, I mean, I don't know if it was
an ad lib or not, but that was so funny
when she gives them the the the gift of the
little shirt that says future Challenge Champion and you know,
Theo's like, oh, he already is a Challenge Champian.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
She's like, no, that's for you, THEO. Like I thought
that was I thought that was yeah.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
Absolutely yeah, And and like you know, as far as
like you know, respecting the host goes like when All
Stars won, Reunion came around and it was only Reunion
All Stars had Nate Burlson, who is now a superstar
in the hosting world. I mean, you see him on
Good Morning What Anything, Interview, Good morning everything.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
If it's in the morning and it's good.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
It's yeah, and he's interviewing you know, Rihanna before the
super Bowl, et cetera, et cetera. Well, whenever we did
All Stars one reunion in twenty twenty one, I literally
like went into the green room or makeup room when
I saw him, and I was like, basically like, who
are you? And do you really watch the show? What

(19:14):
kind of bullshit is this?

Speaker 1 (19:15):
Bro?

Speaker 3 (19:15):
You know you could be honest with me, And he's like, no, No,
I watched the show. I watched all the episodes. We
love the show. I go, well, didn't you I go,
did you play with Dan Rolovski? Didn't you guys play
on the lines together? And we got into talking about
Dan Rolovski, you know who every now and then would
shout us out on on ESPN, which we don't hear
that anymore. He must have. There's probably just some you know,

(19:38):
distaste for Fessi, which is why. But Dan o Lovski
come back and watch the show, will you? Yeah? Anyway,
I forget the last time much respect for Devin.

Speaker 1 (19:49):
I forget him about it.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
I think it might have been during forty and he
was like behind or whatever, blah blah blah, and I
had to say like, oh, well, look all these people
are back, you should check it out or whatever.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
He's probably just too busy.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
He went from like I think he was like I
don't even know if he only talks about football.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
Now he's kind of been elevated as well. Over there.
He's on what like all of a sudden on ESPN.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
Someone goes from being on like one show to then
you blink another on fifty shows, you know, kind of
like what happened with Nate. I think he kind of
maybe used the Challenge Reunion as maybe part added to
his reel or whatever, because now if he walks in there,
every single person knows who he is, let alone you.
But back then you only knew him if he was
on your fantasy team for that year on the Vikings
or something like that, or you know, you recognize him

(20:30):
from the Lions, or you're a fan of a you know,
NFC North team.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
I think he's got like a dad sports dad podcast
or something like that, like some kind of positive dad podcast.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
Dan or yea, yeah, but Nate, but Nate now probably
a podcast. Yeah, Well, Nate's got I mean, he's doing
he's like a new Oprah. He's like he's like a
like a go to, like you said interviewer before the
Grammy's this that whatever, like he's he's out there on
the red carpets and everything like that. But shouts to
Devin Simone before we say goodbye to the main feed.
Last question that I'll tease everybody over to challenge maniacs

(21:02):
dot com with, is that so you guys do these
reunions and obviously you all look like a million bucks,
right you guys? Are you guys are wearing great outfits?
You guys are you know you got the makeup on
going like that? We've seen some behind the scenes things
like that. We know that during the show they put
you guys on ice, if you will, during the bus.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
Rides and things like that.

Speaker 2 (21:25):
When they're not filming now they are filming you backstage,
so if something happens, at least they cover it. But
sometimes you kind of like, you know, you know how
we say it. Sometimes we're about to hit record and
you go, oh, save it for the podcast, Save it
for the podcast. How do they is there a middle ground?
Like when you guys are in the back having a
good time getting into it starting hashing stuff out. Do
they ever, in their own way say to you save
it for the reunion or is there even a word

(21:46):
they say like hey, like do they put you guys
on ice or is it just you know, have your phone.

Speaker 3 (21:50):
No, it's it's basically they have their their cameras on set.
When you leave set, behind the cameras before we go
up to our dressing room's kind of ready for for action.
Like in case like we're walking off and we we
you know, we decide to get into a quick powow
about what we just heard or what someone just said
as if you know, man, that person was a real

(22:11):
asshole or didn't really go that way, that's messed up.
That's pretty cool. Whatever they're they're catching us kind of leaving,
and like every now and then, like if we're talking
about something interesting, we'll stop the cameras, we'll pull up

(22:31):
and you know, we kind of just know, you know
that they're they're trying to get this and we'll give
it to them.

Speaker 1 (22:37):
You know.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
Sometimes we'll even start over if like we're like, oh,
we get it. They missed like the first fifteen words
we just said, which is the most important part. And
then they can you choose to use it or not.
Then when we go up into our dressing room, sometimes
they're in there with some a prominent character that they're
trying to catch some footage on. Rarely, rarely ever me,

(23:00):
uh but uh I think I had I was rooming
with CT and uh I forget who else. I don't know,
I can't remember. But yeah, they they don't really Sometimes
they do go, hey, you know, can you guys talk
about this? You know, I think I did a plug
for me near me, did a plug for like MTV Italy,

(23:21):
the Challenge in Italy, the Challenge in Germany. So we
talked in you know, their native language, and said, hey,
watch the Challenge sin try anyway out there.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
