Speaker 1 (02:26):
The streets were crazy, it was icy, although.

Speaker 2 (02:28):

a little off schedule. But then we turned around and

Look, bruh, come on, Lord.

Speaker 3 (02:44):

But I got stuff to do.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
I gotta get out and about it and see people
that I do not like driving in you know, inclement,
rather whether it's severe rainstorms or a blizzard outside. Your

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Our Falcons, you know the Atlanta Falcons. Of course, you
know they're twenty twenty four season ended on Sunday, January fifth,
with a forty four to thirty eight overtime loss to
of the Panthers. Of course, the Falcons finished the season
and with the eight and nine record, missing the playoffs
for the seventh year in a row. Now here's the
thing about our Atlanta Falcons. We're on a new era,

(06:07):
new new new. When I tell you new new news,
I'm telling you we got to sew bas is going on.
Michael pittch junior, you know, quarterbacks, young guy. He's the

Career, I'll say, but I definitely love just seeing the
players give.

Back to the community and more so, you know, covering
my hometown team, the Falcons, and seeing what the future
holes we have. You know, coach right, he first African
American black coach. So important error rise, you know, just
so so historical for me and the culture. But most importantly,

game and stout defense. But look, former LSU standout Jaden
Daniels and the Commanders are ready to spoil their plans.

(08:42):
And I'm pretty sure y'all are going to be in
for some exciting football. But here's the thing Washington Cinderella
story could reach unpreceded heights is they will aim to
become the first team in the NFL issue to start
our rooking quarterback in the Super Bowl. But look, by
the end of the weekend, New Orleans will know who

(09:03):
they'll be hosting for the big game at the Super Zoe,
who will you.

Speaker 2 (22:47):
And when I mean that, I'm talking about Yeah, another
NFL player has had the homeborken went into you. This
time a residence was broken into by our very old
Atlanta Falcons player. Because bat Antonio goes day man, I
Walton senior. He was burglarized early Friday morning. According to
Roswel Police Department. The incident recorded obtained by Camusley's sports.

(23:11):
Crops were called to him a con senior's junior's home
at around midnight after the football player told him told
them that his home security camera syst he had captured
three men ransacking his pat Now, this is so disturbing,
disturbing news because it's like so many of these players
are being a targeted. I know, in the recent months

(23:32):
it was Jalen Brown's mom home was broken into it during.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
His away game.

much so ridiculous. And I know, you know, your home
is still posed to be your sanctity. And I just
for me, I could never imagine. It's hard enough when
regular Joe's like myself just you know, are violated in
such a form, but you know, to have these players,
they are really being targeted.

And this is to be difficult. And I'm starting to
think Lehannes's with you.

insight job, you know, and it's not rocket science here.
This is scary, but of course thank God, no one's
hurt or injured. But again, yeah, guys, stay safe. This
is this is insane and I'm pretty sure we'll.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
Be recording on another burglary.

Speaker 2 (24:19):
I hope not, knock on wood, but it seems like
this is one of those incidents that's going to be
reoccurring form the next month or so until we get
down to the bottom of who's doing.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
What and who is actually involved. And this is unfortunate.

Speaker 2 (24:34):
I hate this and I hate you know, sharing news
like this, But most importantly, Hamilton is doing fine, he
is safe, he wasn't horned, and of course you know
our curse and positive vibes are listen to his family
and others who were impacted by these freaking insane burglaries.

Speaker 1 (26:29):
Welcome doctor kee Ooman too. Chicks in a sport Wow
hap five.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
Our first guess is upon us. I'm so super tited
doctor key holeman, it's here. Yay hello doctor, how are you?

Speaker 6 (26:44):
I am doing wonderful today. It's a cold day in Atlanta,
but it's a great day.

Speaker 4 (26:50):
Thank you for having me.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
Awesome.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
Also, look, and you know, hence my voice is a
little off. It is called we have a little snow, guys,
But look, we survived. This is what the second time
we've had snow? And what the last two weeks? What's happening?

Speaker 4 (27:05):
I have no idea.

Speaker 6 (27:06):
I've been in Atlanta, what almost fifteen years. I don't
think I've seen this.

Speaker 1 (27:10):
Of course, I don't know what's happening.

Speaker 2 (27:12):
No I know, but we're riding and rolling through it all.
But most importantly, I'm so super excited here. And let's
just talk about your village model and how it's been
so instrumental in just empowering black entrepreneurs. And can you
just share how this model fosters economic resilience within just
the black community.

Speaker 6 (27:31):
Absolutely, I've been on the journey now for almost ten
years of economic liberation for our community, and I've done
that through my company, the Village Market. I began creating
nighttime marketplaces for entrepreneurs, and my goal was to get
the community out to circulate the dollar so we can

(27:53):
begin to.

Speaker 4 (27:53):
Fortify our businesses.

Speaker 6 (27:55):
Today We've been able to circulate eight point eight million
dollars in direct sale to black businesses, open a retail
store at Pont City Market, the Village Retail. I have
a nonprofit where we provide technical assistance, We do one
on one mentor services, and we also deploy grants. We've
done eight hundred thousand dollars worth of grants thus far.

(28:18):
So all of this, everything that I'm doing, my north
star is for us to be economically and also spiritually liberated,
to thrive as a collective.

Speaker 2 (28:30):
Well, that is so important. I love that you spoke
about that because a lot of things happening right now.
Everything is new, new, new year, new, a lot a
lot of newness. I'm just gonna leave it at that,
but I just want to know what has inspired you
to write No One is Self Made? And just what
the core message is just to bring hope to the

(28:51):
readers and what can they take away from especially during
this time of just newness.

Speaker 4 (28:57):
What a great question.

Speaker 6 (28:58):
First, can I say, I am I'm so excited about
our first book that's coming out February fourth. This is
a dream actualized for me and it's much more than
a book. This is a love letter to a community
that I hold dear and uplift. The theme of this
book is that number one, no one is self made,

(29:20):
and we have to divorce the myth of individualism and
that we must return to community. We must return to
the collective because what has always been true in twenty
twenty five, years before and years ahead, community is the
only thing that would save us, and community is only
the only place where we don't only exist to survive,

(29:43):
but as a collective we can thrive. So I write
about that chapter through chapter that we must return to
the community. We must learn how to be mission and
vision orchestrated and unified. And beyond talking about it, I
also talk about how to do it and how to
do it and what I've done through my business models

(30:04):
a village market and village retail and OVERU.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
Oh my gosh, that is so amazing. Now, you know what,
Let's talk a little bit about your background. I know,
just transitioning from an educator to a social entrepreneur, it
was just significant shift, just a major shift for you.
But how did your background and education just influence your
approach to founding the village market and just supporting black
owned businesses?

Speaker 4 (30:29):
First shout out to all the teachers out there. I
know you're enjoying the snow day though I know you're
enjoying it.

Speaker 6 (30:36):
But shout out because I absolutely love my time in
the classroom.

Speaker 1 (30:42):
I loved my time as an administrator.

Speaker 6 (30:44):
I love my time as an evaluator and research specialist
for Georgia Department of Education.

Speaker 1 (30:50):
Every single thing led me to who I am today.

Speaker 6 (30:53):
If I didn't know how to form connections to young
people to get them to be inspired that they can
be more than what they have ever seen, that it
is possible for them to break generational curses and be
a generational blessing, that was my job as a teacher,

(31:13):
and that informed me my ability to form relationships, my
ability to get young people in their families to dream bigger,
and to know that education, if used correctly, is truly
a passport.

Speaker 4 (31:27):
I've only I'm still doing that now.

Speaker 6 (31:29):
When I left education, what my prayer was. I didn't
want to leave being a teacher. I just wanted my
classroom to change. I wanted to have a wallless classroom.
So I'm still working with entrepreneurs the same way. But
I have to share with you teaching the years that
I was fortunate to do it with some of the
greatest years of my life. And I'm very fortunate that

(31:52):
I was chosen to be a teacher for the time
that I was chosen to do it.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
And can I just ask you a bonus question because
I know, you know, just being educated is so important
and we appreciate just you being out there, just being
that light for our youth in a world of craziness
and sometimes seems like it's darkness with our youth. What
do you feel like the future holds for our youth?
I know they're so super uber smart, they really technoledgey savvy.

Speaker 1 (32:21):
What do you think our future will be for the youth?

Speaker 4 (32:24):
I believe that our future will be bright.

Speaker 6 (32:27):
If we can start to empower them to harness their life,
if we can empower them to harness their gifts, if we.

Speaker 4 (32:38):
Can also empower them to be different than who we were.

Speaker 6 (32:42):
I think the responsibility of our generation is not to
overly criticize the young people of their way of doing it,
but find the middle the commonalities, to be models, to
be leaders, to be shoulders that they.

Speaker 4 (32:56):
Can stand on.

Speaker 6 (32:57):
But when I think of the future, I have a
sixteen your old nephew, and I know eventually he's going
to be leading the way, and I know that I'm
going to be kept in with well thoughtful, fearless hands
as for these young leaders, so I feel very much
so motivated. But I do know that it is our

(33:18):
responsibility to start supporting them and harnessing their gifts, encouraging
them to do the self work that we probably learned
later in life. That to support them to think about
their well being and their mindset and their confidence to
speak life over their life. It is our responsibility to

(33:39):
be a model for that.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
Absolutely, absolutely, I love that.

Speaker 1 (33:43):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (33:44):
Now speaking on support, support is a verb that has
become just a powerful mantra associated with your work, and
can you just elaborate on how this philosophy is integrated
into your just your initiatives and it's impact on the
communities you serve.

Speaker 6 (34:00):
Yes, I created support as a verb almost ten years
ago as well, And at that time I was like,
what how can I put into short concise messaging what
I'm trying to do? And my goal was to support
the black black business community. We're buying customers, and so
I said, well, I'm trying to get people to do something.

Speaker 4 (34:22):
That's a verb. So I said, oh, support, support is
a verb, and I tested it with my friends and
it's like, oh, key, that's nice.

Speaker 6 (34:29):
And I knew then that I had something. Because support
is a verb is only a call to action. If
you love something, if you are truly for something, your
actions should follow. If you are a supportive of the
local community. If you truly are ten toes down for
black businesses, you're spending should follow.

Speaker 4 (34:51):
Your reviews should follow.

Speaker 6 (34:53):
When your friends come in town, you going to patronize
those stores should be an action. Sport is a verb
to me, is literally a call to action. Do something,
be a part of something. But especially if you say
that you love it.

Speaker 1 (35:08):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (35:08):
I love that, absolutely love it. Now can you tell
us where can we pre purchase this book online?

Speaker 4 (35:17):
Yes, listen, y'all. Support is a verb.

Speaker 6 (35:20):
