Game on, game on. This is your old the self
proclaimed spirits snie day you carry you tell us, and
I am back. Happy Saturday, Spirits levelist, Happy Saturday. I
am so super excited to be here with you, and
you are hearing me, and it's a wonderful, beautiful Saturday,
to say the least. Now, let me say this to you.

(00:21):
Oh my goodness, this weather, between the pollen, the allergies,
the bumblebees, the waltzes that are trying to attack me
as I go outside each day, I am I'm trying
to figure out what is happening. You know, we've had
some unusually cool weather, cold weather, then back to warm

(00:42):
all the way around. You know, is it springtime or
is it back to fall. I'm trying to figure out
because I think even the bumblebees and birds are concerned
because one day they're out, the next day they're gone.
So I don't know what is happening. But I could say, look, guys,
the season of allergies. And if you can't tell, I

(01:05):
have some little sniffles and a little stuffness. But it's okay,
it's all right. I am here. I am here with you,
and I'm so super excited because you know what, We
have a very special guest that's coming up after the break.
But let me tell you something, guys, let me tell
you something. Does anyone have a dog? Anybody raise your hand,

(01:28):
please see you in the back Listen. My kids and
husband has invested in this rock roller pup, you know,
and he she rather looks very ferocious. She's almost one.
And when I tell you that dog snores, she snorkels

(01:48):
and sounds like a pig at times, and I'm like,
all of the noise, Like I literally just had to
tell her, like, y'all need to take this dog out
of here, because this chick here has a podcast. We
got the sports loveliest that are waiting on me, So
please take this little pup out of here, because I
don't think my sports loveliest want to hear the snorkeling

(02:10):
and the heart breathing, and I'm like, oh my gosh,
I can hear her coming down the steps that I
just want to know anyone else have these problems. I mean,
clearly she has the run of the house. The queen
has been thrown because there is a new queen in
town by the name of Macy. Yes, much loveliest, Oh

(02:33):
my goodness, all the dog lovers, all the dog moms
and dog dads, make sure you hit us up on
social media and let us know your thoughts because I'm
just trying to figure out what is going on, like,
why are you breathing so hard? And I don't know
if it's just the breed. So again, she's a rock roller.
She's probably like sixty pounds. She looks very ferocious. We
take her outside, people are like, oh my god, the

(02:54):
monster is here. The monster. But she will lick you
to death, Bart for what all she wants to do
is just love you and love you. Now, I'm not
a big fan of dogs. I'm not gonna be you know,
I'm gonna lie to him, be very honest and transparent.
I am fearful for my life when it comes to

(03:16):
all animals, squirrels, chihuah wahs, bumblebees, butterflies, all creatures, all
of God's creatures. I am afraid of them. All snails,
creepy quality things, but all them legs. Yeah, terrified, but

(03:43):
you know, oh yeah cats. To add that into the equation,
I'm afraid of all things, all birds, all of it. Yeah,
But you know, I think with my fear of animals,
and the dog is really giving me a chance to
you know, just see, maybe the all creatures aren't trying
to bite my face off. Perhaps they want some love too.

(04:08):
And I'm gonna leave it at that. Those first lovelies,
don't forget. Don't forget to check us out on iHeartRadio,
Spotify and all streaming platforms. Make should have follow us
on the Facebook, the Twita or the ads or whatever

when the Gators ashed out the Houston Coolers sixty five
to sixty three in a tightly contasted championship game at
the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, securing their first national

Yukon women delivered a commanding eighty to the fifty nine victory.

(05:16):
Oh wait, what Don Staley's team? Yes, South Carolina game costs.
They defeated them, the defending champions in Tampa. Unbelievable. Were
you guys shocked? I know I was. I'm not gonna
even lie. I think I was at a hockey game.

(05:37):
You were talking talking to another sports correspondent and yeah,
it was just like so real. I was like what
and she was like, look, listen, I've been saying this
for a while and people were looking at me crazy. Uh,
Yukon is gonna win. Yukon is gonna win. And yes,
they did win indeed. Now, Alsie Fudd He let the

(05:58):

most outstanding Player. Wild Page Buggers contributed seventeen points to
her final collegiate game, capping her career with a long

Matt March Madness until the Nets, guys. The brackets are

(06:23):
now close. Okay, Now let's move on to NFL Falcons
IF Falcons News okay, thirty birds, now the Atlanta Falcons.
They hosted their annual local pro Day on Friday, April
eleventh at the team's training facility in Flowery Bridge. Now
this happened, and they welcome over one hundred NFL Draft

(06:47):
prospects with ties to Georgia by hometown or college affiliation. Now.
The event offered an up close look at the talent
across all positions, including notable names from powerhouses programs such
as Georgia, Clemson, Ohio State, as well as the under
radar standouts from smaller schools. Now Falcons coaches and front

(07:07):
office staff, including their GM and head coach Rohaie Moorris.
They evaluated players through drills and interviews in hopes of
uncoverary some hitting gyms they had of this twenty twenty
five NFL Draft that's coming out now, of course, you
know what, it was a lot of things that was
going on. The Atlanta Falcons this weekends also resigned veteran
cornerback Kevin King and d Alford, adding experience stability to

(07:31):
their secondary ahead of the twenty twenty five season. Now,
you know what, guys, I'm super excited about the upcoming season.
Look I've told you this. I've told you before. Dirty birds.

I loved the Atlanta Falcons. I believe they got some

played for Atlanta Tyan Thaga al Maata for his second
most goals in franchise history. Now you know what. It's
gonna be a early match. Guys. The match will kick
off at two thirty at the bench. Make sure you're
in the building and leave early because after this podcast,

(09:00):
your girl is heading two the Bents to cover our
five stripes. Let's go, five stripes. Let's go. Now, you
know what. The Atlanta Gladiators our ECHL team Hockey, Yes Hockey.
The last home game happened the last game of the
twenty twenty four to twenty five season. The Glads honored

(09:21):
longtime captain Eric Neely, who was announced he has announced
as a retirement from professional hockey the organization. They had
the emotional pregame ceremony at Gasouth Arena. It featured video
tributes with messages from former and current teammates, coaches, staff,
all just congratulating on his exceptional career. Now. Neeley's allustorous

(09:43):
tenure with the Glads included two hundred sixty five games
where he scored one hundred and three goals, ranking second
in franchise history and accumulating one hundred and ninety eight points.
Now after retiring following the twenty twenty two to twenty
three season, Neelie. Of course, Briefles served as an assistant
coach before returning to play in twenty twenty four to

(10:04):
twenty five. However, due to physical wear and tear, he
did announce his decision to retire again during the final
home game. Now the Glass of course secured that three
and two victory over Jacksonville Iceman, and it was a great,
you know, fan appreciation match. You know, look, the energy
was high, and of course it was just sending some

(10:25):
homage to Neili who leadership and contributions was just so
significant part of the team's success throughout his career. Now
the Glass, they will complete their seats and with their
final game happening Saturday, April the twelfth, onth and this
is going to be in Florida against the Florida ever
Blays and of course their last of the last, so

(10:46):
the final two Florida Everblakes today and tomorrow at Hurtserena,
the Glass will do their final final game against Savannah Goes,
concluding the twenty twenty four to twenty five seasons. So
you know, it's been amazing season. Didn't get to get
out much to my Atlanta Gladiators. So you've had so

(11:07):
many games and so many new schedules added to our itinerary.
But guess what. Make sure you check out Chicks in
the Sports dot Com for further sports news, where you
will see more highlights about you know, our Atlanta Gladiators,
about of course, Atlanta United, Atlanta Hawks, the Atlanta Falcons.
You will see a lot, So make sure you stay

(11:29):

Sports dot Com for all of your sports needs. Okay, now,
speaking of the Hawks, Irelanta Hawks. Now they secure the
eighth seed in the Eastern Conference Plan Tournament after back
to back road wins against Brooklyn Nets and the seventy

(11:50):
six ers, highlighted by standout performances from Zachary here'sh You,
Shay Tray, young and curious work. With momentum on their side,
the Hawks are returning home for their regular season finale,
going down April thirteenth against the Orlando Magic. Early game
as well as going down, I will be in the

(12:10):
building Sunday. It is happening, so make sure you stay
tuned because we will have coverage of that as well. Now,
of course, while the outcome won't impact seating, the game
provides a valuable opportunity to just kind of fine tuned
strategies and possibly rest key players ahead of the postseason push.
So we will be in the building and we'll make

(12:31):
sure that you see some great interviews from our Atlanta Hawks. Okay,
let's stay true to Atlanta. We'll see them postseason. Now,
let's talk a little bit about more NBA news. Right,
let's get on, you know, talk about John Mornt. He's
at it again, y'all. Now, he sparked controversy with a

(12:55):
new on court celebration. Yeah, he did. You know, we
mentioned this last week when we were talking about that
seventy five thousand dollars fine for using a finger gun gesture.
Doing a recent game, Marat debuted a grenade celebration, mimicking
the act of pulling up in throwing a grenade and

(13:15):
covering his ears after making a three pointer. He performed
his gesture multiple times during the grizzlies one twenty four
to one hundred win over the Hornets and there one
twenty five loss to the Timberwolves. Now, the celebration was,
of course, has drawn so many criticisms from NBA analysts,
you know, like Charles rock Berkley and Kenny Smith, who

(13:40):
kind of labeled it as immature and express concerns over
at this violent implication, especially given Moran's previous suspension in
twenty twenty three for a firearm related incident. Now look Marat.
He defended his action, stating the gesture symbolizes throwing out
his and blocking out the noise, and he asserted he

(14:03):
will continue the celebration unless explicitly so not to do so. Hm, Well,
that's all I have to say about that. Let us
know your thoughts on social media, because I again, you know,
I'm a firm believer in you know, celebrations and you
know kind of you know, pissing off the opponents. But ah, this,

(14:31):
let me know if you think he's doing the most.
Let us know your thoughts on social media. Now, moving
right ahead to other NBA news. You know Zion Williamson's
child's mother, she's been charged with stalking and assault in
a domestic dispute. Yeah. Achema Love is the mother of

(14:53):
Zion Williamson's child. She was arrested in Louisiana after allegedly
assaulting a woman believed to be Williamson's current girlfriend. The
incident began on March seventeenth, when Love reportly act the
victim's residents and sit threatening if threatening messages via Instagram,
stating quote, don't worry, it's gonna be your head nets

(15:16):
when I drop this baby counter of days. Now, that's crazy,
that's insane to me, because I take that as a
very serious threat. Now, Love, She faces charges of home invasion,
aggravated barrier and stalking, with her bond set at fifty thousand.
She has been ordered to surrender her firearm and avoid
contact with the victim. Now, I'm gonna say this, guys,

(15:38):
there's no way in the world this dispute should be
over a man over you know, look, women, ladies alike, please,
it's not worth it. What is did you snap? Now?
I'm a big fan of snap. I watch all of
the crime TV shows and very so aware of the

(16:02):
situations that will make people go cuckoo for cocoa puffs.
In this situation, I think that's very serious. I think
this young lady needs to evaluate a lot of things
in her life. And you know, look, it's not worth it.
You have children, you have a child, your mom. Get
it together, get it together, Let us know, let us

(16:23):
know your thoughts, because I definitely want to, you know,
kind of keep up with this story because again, this
is insane. I'm just looking like, wow, wow, you just
never know. You never know. Now, let's keep it positive
because we want to go on to our Atlanta Vibe
news cause you know what, it's a vibe. It's a vibe. Yes,

(16:44):
our Atlanta Vibe are on the road today to compete
against the Orlando VALKYRIESE. Now, this is going down at
the Addition Financial Arena. First serf is set for seven o'clock.
And guess what. The Vibe is currently on a nine
game win street. Yes, striving for when we're win to
secure the longest wind street in league's history, doing this

(17:06):
twenty twenty five season so far. Now, look, guys, it's
a a vibe. Our Vibe team is going off. I'm
loving every moment of our Atlanta Vibe. When I tell you,
there is no party like an Atlanta Vipe match. It
is unbelievable. Our team is amazing and you got to

(17:27):

Gwenette or Atlanta, make sure you check out Atlanta a
Vibe game. Okay, Atlanta Vibe volleyball match is just amazing
our Atlanta Vibe. They have just broken so many franchise histories.
I mean, just being such a young team. And you

(17:47):
know the crowd, we have so many people that have
come to support from the Atlanta dream. You know, we
see former Atlanta Hawks players coming to support our team.
Where I even saw a former Falcons Atlanta, former Atlanta
Braves Brian Jordan in the building. Y'all just supporting our
Atlanta Vibe. I look, I am not mad at it.

(18:11):
I'm loving everyone that comes out to support our Atlanta Vibe.
But make sure, guys, make sure that you continue to
support our team because we got so much to go.
You know, we got so many more games matches to
come up, and we just want to make sure that
our team is supported. I know our next home match

(18:31):
will be on Saturday, April twenty six, so make sure
you are in the building when the team goes up
against Grand Rapids Rise. So yeah, it's gonna be cool,
It's gonna be a fun time with our Atlanta Vibe.

better remember it's a vibe. It's a vibe coming up

(18:53):

Of course, last Friday. It went down when thirty five

(21:04):
year old shared the news in an emotional Instagram post,
calling it the right thing for me at the right time. Now,
Elena Della Done. She admitted that stepping away from the
game has been one of the hardest parts of her career,
revealing that it was ultimately her body, not her mind,
that made the decision first. And you know what, guys,
this has kind of been just I guess the whole vibe.

(21:26):
You know. Let's keep in that same element, right, It's
just not always what some of these players want to do.
But when your body is telling you enough is enough,
you got to listen to your body. But most importantly,

sure we'll see her more on TV. So you just
stay tuned and wait. But you know what I was
talking about, just emerging stars and you know, the new

(22:10):
era of the W Kaitlyn Clark. Now she is honoring
the WNBA trailblazer as the league's popularity and ticket prices
are surging out of control. Yes, the prices are up, up, up,
up up, Now listen Indiana Fever star Kaitlin Clark. She
reiterated her awareness of privilege and just the importance of

(22:33):
honoring the women who paved the way in the W
doing a recently release interview with David Letterman, echoing the
similar remark she made to Time Magazine when she was
named Athlete of the Year. Her comments come amid a
surge of just lead popularity with those tickets. WNBA ticket
prices rising fifty percent this season from an average of

(22:57):
one hundred and thirty five dollars to two hundred dollars. Now, listen, guys,
I'm gonna be honest with you. Takets back in the
day to a W game to Atlanta Dream Game twenty
five dollars. Yeah, so we're talking one hundred dollars to
two hundred dollars. It's insane as a sitement is just
building for the twenty twenty four WNBA Draft Dallas Wing

(23:20):
they hold the number one pick and Clark continues to
make headlines both on and off court. Indeed, and you
know what, guys, you cannot hate on this. I'm loving
every moment of the Kitlyn Clark era and it's been
phenomenal and I can't wait upcoming season where we will
face the Indiana fever. So make sure you are in

Speaker 1 (25:42):
Loving Back, Welcome Back Sports lovely is my estimate. Ounjie
moment is upon us, and I want to talk to
you a little bit about this backlash. Right, So listen, guys,
Lebron James has a kid married all, and.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
You know what, it's kind of cute.

Speaker 1 (25:59):
You know, I could see my self owning one, and
I actually think I have one in my cart as
we speak. However, this whole Lebron debacle, Lebron James Kendall
is just bringing some backlash over it. You know, some
people are just you know, having a debate across social medias,

(26:19):
with fans just questioning it's target audience and of course
the cultural fit. Now, of course, many have argued like, hmm,
collectibles doesn't align with maybe Lebron's core fan base, men
and boys who may not kind of resonate with a
Ken doll and maybe know that women are uninterested in
sports and who are just unlikely to be drawn to

(26:40):
a Lebron theme figure. Now, critics also pointed to a
broader image concern, suggesting, you know, just braining feels mismatch
with Lebron's persona, with some of even just mocking the
doll's accessory and of course the price. But Mattel has
remained present as it is say this is just a

(27:01):
tribute to Lebron's influence beyond basketball. Many see it as
a tone deaf marketing move, feeling ongoing discourse across his legacy,
and of course this public image that King Brian has now. Listen,
I'm just gonna say this. I like it, I love it,
and I will be having it on flul display. And
I like to know what's your thoughts because, honestly, look,

(27:24):
I've always been a Barbie doll gal. You know, I've
had all types of Barbie dolls throughout my young life,
you know, during my younger years. And I thought this
was pretty cool. You know. I think that's just giving
homorage to a person that has, you know, kind of
changed the culture within basketball. Of course, I'm pretty sure

(27:44):
some will have their own thoughts and feelings, because I
had a whole discussion yesterday, you know, in one of
my colleagues.

Speaker 2 (27:50):
I was just but you just don't understand.

Speaker 1 (27:53):
You're just always like, oh, I just don't like it.
I don't have top. It's just insane, it's maddening. I

say to persuade me. Not too sorry, but not sorry.

Speaker 1 (29:49):
That's Scoreal four sixty seven one nine one seven two.
Personal injury trial or your little money Scott, We're serious
about fighting for you. That's spooral four sixty seven one
nine one se My next guest is the author of
Unfunk Yourself. Sports levelies, please welcome Emilyhampton mor USh too.

(30:11):
It's in a sport. Emily, welcome, chicks in a sports.
Let's just start up with the title Unfunk Yourself. It's bold,
it's a little cheeky. What does funk mean in the
content of your book and what inspired you to just
write about that?

Speaker 4 (30:29):
So yes, it is a little cheeky, it's a little irreverent,
but so is the book. So the title it's funny. Uh,
that's not typically the phrase that I used with clients,
but I had to make it, you know, like palatable
for a book. So, but you know, when people are funky,
and I don't mean like groovy funky, I mean like

(30:49):
when people are just funky, they're off. So what I
mean by that in this book is misalignment or and
self on awareness and apathy and the things that keep
us from being connected to ourselves which then inhibits us

(31:09):
from being connected to other people. And when we're looking
especially at leadership in the workplace, if you're funky like that,
you're not going to be the most effective leader you
can be. You're going to lose people through your own funkiness,
through your own misalignment. So that is where that came
from and what inspired me to write it. Really, so

(31:34):
about ten years ago, actually more than that, maybe like
eleven years ago, it was time to leave the nonprofit
world that I'd been in for twenty some odd years.
It was time to roll out of that, and I so, I,
you know, did the stuff that I was good at,
which was organizational effectiveness kind of stuff. So I'd sit

(31:56):
with companies and do SWAT analyzes and strategic place and
all that. But it dawned on me as I was
working with a couple of companies and I'm like, wow,
we can strategize all day long, but y'all don't talk
to each other, like you're not communicating well. And not
only are you not communicating well, there are moments where
you're not communicating at all. So you can strategize what

(32:18):
you want to do for the next eighteen months, three years,
five years, but if you can't get on the same
page and communicate with each other, then like, none of
this is going to get executed well. And which led
me into researching communication. And you know, keeping in mind
that I'm a socio psychologial s socio psychologist by training,

(32:42):
and my undergrad degree my graduate degrees and organizational psychology,
so this is the kind of stuff that I find
fascinating and important. So leaning on that information, I was
able to create workshops to help leaders and their teams
be more cohes to communicate better, understand each other, better,

(33:03):
understand themselves better. And it just sort of just kind
of came to fruition through years of running these workshops,
and the book was weirdly timed. I guess I don't
know if there's ever like the right time to write
a book.

Speaker 5 (33:19):
But I.

Speaker 4 (33:21):
Facilitated a workshop with this one particularly challenging group of people,
and this was about two years ago, and and I
take a psychological look at how humans behave that's the
foundation to understanding how we communicate, right, And so I
always talk about the amygdala, and I made it. I
always make a joke. I'm like, I ever write a book,

(33:43):
I'm gonna have a chapter called the amygdala, because we
kind of blame everything on the agdala. And so I
was joking about that, and so somebody asked me, they said,
are you really going to write a book? And I'm like,
I really should, because this isn't information that most people
think about on a regular basis, which to me sounds

(34:05):
weird because I think about this stuff all the time.
But then that's my experience of my education. And so
I gave some serious thought and I'm like, well, I mean, like,
what's the worst that can happen? Right, Like nobody's going
to read it, but I think that this is going
to be some interesting information. So I dove in and
I pulled information and anecdotes and stories from from years

(34:29):
of working with teams and came up with the book
and here we are.

Speaker 1 (34:34):
Oh my gosh, such an amazing story. But you know what,
I do want you to kind of get a little
bit candid about just some of your own experiences with
Burnt Out and then reinvention. Can you share a moment
from just your journey that really shifted things for you
and maybe some things that kind of cracked you open.

Speaker 4 (34:54):
Yeah, so I'm glad you're asking that, and I think
this is an important piece to this whole journey. All
of this came from an incredibly honest and raw and
uncomfortable place. So the book dives into mindfulness, being mindful,
which has really become a buzzword, which annoys me because
when stuff becomes buzzworthy, it becomes diluted and the actual

(35:18):
meaning behind it gets lost. But there have been a
whole lot of pivot points and turning points in my life,
and many of them personal, that forced me to stop
and take a look at what am I doing and
who am i? Am I actually who I want to be,

(35:41):
or am I being who someone else thinks I should be?
And what is happening here?

Speaker 5 (35:46):
Right?

Speaker 4 (35:46):
And So to answer your question, there was this was
the end of my nonprofit career. This is what I
knew it was time to do something different. I was
working for a very large corporate nonprofit. We were in
the midst of a reorganization, and the way the reorganization
shook out it felt to me unethical on a couple

(36:11):
of levels. And when the when some of the final
information was released related to like how many staffers they
were going to keep, what the what the mid leadership
was going to look like, et cetera, et cetera, I
was like, wow, we are We're really getting down to
bare bones. And then looking at what the executive level

(36:33):
looked like, you know, I thought, this is this is
not aligned with my values. This what we're doing here
is not aligned with the mission of the organization, and
it is not aligned with with who I truly am.
And am I comfortable towing a corporate line that isn't

(36:53):
authentic to me? And that was an incredibly hard decision
to make, because you know, when you're in a profession
and it's what you've spent decades working on, and then
you decide this isn't for you anymore. Not only are
you in this immediate moment leaving a paying job, but now, like,

(37:16):
what is next and what am I doing? What I
learned from that, though, is that your authentic self is
always going to find a way to come out, and
sometimes in the most inopportune times. So it's important to
keep a finger on the pulse of who you actually are.
And that's a big part of what this book is about.

Speaker 1 (37:38):
Oh my gosh, I love that. I love that. But
you know what I want to ask you if you
could just wave a magic one and change one thing
about how women lead and live today, what would it
be and how does unfunct yourself help them take that
first step?

Speaker 4 (37:55):
Oh my god, I wish I had a magic land
for so many reasons. There'll be so many things, a
big This is a big ask, So, ladies that are listening,
you have got to trust yourself. You have to trust yourself.
And that's a really simple answer for an incredibly complex issue.

(38:18):
So if you give me just a second, let me
open that up. Okay, in American society, and I can't
speak to like other you know, global societies, though, I
suspect there are lots of similarities in this regard. Women
are socialized to be accommodating to avoid conflict, to.

Speaker 6 (38:40):
Be nice, to be to make sure other people are
being taken.

Speaker 4 (38:51):
Care of before we're being taken care of. We auditioned
to be small, to be quiet, and for those of us.
And I'm sure there's lots of people listening that are like, girl,
that's not me. And I'm like, like, listen, that is
not me either. And so when you're a very boisterous

(39:12):
and outspoken and extroverted woman, there's a lot of baggage
that will come with that. There are stereotypes, there are assumptions,
there are judgments. They're heavy. And so what sometimes starts
to happen is we will distrust ourselves. We will distrust

(39:35):
our intuition, we will distrust our gut. Right. And if
I had a magic want, there's god, there's so many
things that would change. But one is trust yourself. You
know more than you think you do. You are way
stronger than you might give yourself credit for. And I'll
bet you you're smarter than most people in the room,

(39:58):
and so you need to trust yourself.

Speaker 1 (40:04):
What I love that sit in there taking it all in.

Speaker 2 (40:09):
I was like, oh my gosh, speaking to me.

Speaker 4 (40:13):
And it's really hard though, it's such a hard thing
to do because we're and this really this comes from
mark this comes from social conditioning. So from the time
that we start like toddling around and we start quote
learning our place in the world, we're conditioned to believe
this stuff. And then we run into these incredibly strong women.

(40:34):
We're like, oh my god, I want to be like you,
and they're like, I'm just me, Like you don't. You
don't have to be like anyone, you just be you.
But sometimes, and especially in the corporate world, and this
is changing, albeit slowly, we don't have a whole lot
of strong role models. We don't have or accessible role models,
should I say, Like we have people that that we

(40:56):
can look up to and be like, oh, there's a
CEO of Yahoo or what and that's great, but they're
not accessible. It's not like you can go sit down
for coffee with people. So it's not like we have
these this pipeline of mentors, right, So we have to
start being the mentor. We've got to start mentoring ourselves
through through our truth and our authenticity, which is not

(41:19):
always easy to do, especially if you've been conditioned to
like I had been when I was little, to be
nice and to like be quiet, always very hard for me,
and to let other people make decisions and like don't
rock the boat, like don't make people uncomfortable. This is

(41:39):
the stuff that we were conditioned. And honestly, being a
leader requires you to make people uncomfortable, not as a jerk, right,
but in a way that challenges status quo. If you
want to grow, growth doesn't come from status quo. Growth
comes out of comfort. And so we have to break
the conditioning, which takes mindfulness, which requires some pretty heavy work.

(42:04):
All of it's in the book to move past those
assigned traits, those conditioned traits, and it really does come
down to you've got to trust that you can do it.
You are capable, You have the knowledge, you have the confidence,
and you have the courage to be able to start

(42:26):
shifting and learning how to not give a shit if
somebody else doesn't like it. If you're doing it with
intention to grow and to be better, and to take
your team, your department, your company to grow it and
be better, the intention is for good. If someone's going
to get uncomfortable, that could be a them problem, not

(42:47):
a you problem. And that's one of the hardest things
to break through. As we look at this social conditioning.

Speaker 1 (42:54):
Oh my gosh, Emily, this is so good. Oh I
am loving every moment. And look I'm just sitting here
and I'm like, yes, yes, thank you. But again I
find yourself amazing, amazing, great book. Please tell our listeners
how and where we can pick up a copy.

Speaker 4 (43:13):
So one of the easiest things to do. I actually
built a website. So there's the book, which is great,
like read the book, yeah, okay, but there's also a
website that goes with the book. And in the website
you can well, first of all, you can get the
book through the website. You click on the link and
it takes you to my publisher's page. And from there
there's like you can get at Barnes and Noble, you
can get it at Amazon. But on the website itself

(43:36):
that was built to go with the book, there are journals.
So it's one thing to read the book. Read the book.
It's great, Like you'll laugh. The stories are great. It's
totally irreverend, it's raw, it's coming from an honest place.
You're gonna laugh. You're gonna laugh at me. I tell
some like stories about myself, you know, and whatever, and
you'll you'll relate to a lot of the stories that
are in there. But there's work. So when we talk

(43:59):
about you know, shadow work, when we talk about self
awareness and like who are you really? And do you know?
There are journals that go with that that's in the website.
There's also so there's a section in the website called
the Work that's where all the journals are. And then
there's a section called the Guidance and in that are
some guided meditations and some little like thirty second pep talks.

(44:22):
So when you start your day and you're like, ough,
today is going to suck. Nope, you pull up one
of those pep talks that I'm going to tell you
in thirty seconds how much of a badass you are,
and you're going to go through your day. And so,
but in that on that website, which is Unfunk Yourself
book dot com, you can buy the book and you
can look at all the stuff included in there is
a communication quiz. It's called the Communication Compass, and I

(44:44):
created that to help people understand how they communicate and
understand how other people communicate. It's a self awareness tool.
It's a self awareness practice, and it allows leaders to
understand themselves better, which is really the step in understanding
other people. So Unfunk Yourself book dot com is where
to go to find the book.

Speaker 1 (45:06):
Love it, love it, love it. Oh my gosh, Emily,
you have been such an inspiration. When I tell you, you
were just talking to me and I was taking it
all in, I was like, uh, like you heard the
silence is because I was just observing it. Okay, thank
you so much, Emily. You are so amazing and we
definitely will be following. Do you have any social media
page you would like to plug.

Speaker 4 (45:28):
I do so. The book itself has its own page.
It's on Instagram and it's Unfunk Yourself Book, and on there,
I've got little snippets of videos talking about what mindfulness
is and talking about the nine pillars of mindful. It's
just kind of going through a few things in the
book and just starting the conversations.

Speaker 5 (45:46):
My Uh.

Speaker 4 (45:47):
I'm also on LinkedIn. I'm terrible listen, y'all. I know
people are like, you should be on TikTok. I'm like,
I can't even I don't even know what I'm doing.
So I do have the Instagram page and then I'm
on LinkedIn. Emily Hampton more asham on there. I mean,
Lincoln's not very exciting like it's. It's important, but it's
not like jazzy like Instagram is. But they can find
me on Instagram, and they can find me on LinkedIn

(46:08):
and and yeah, and I'm I'm I'm building up that
Instagram page. So be a part of it with me.
Ask me questions, Let's have some conversations.

Speaker 1 (46:17):
Absolutely, and look, I may sliding your damn don't be alarmed.

Speaker 4 (46:23):
