Hi, this is Stefania. Welcometo the Classic Children's Story Podcast. We've
bring an international collection of stories tohelp you entertain your little ones, Stories
that teach, stories that entertain, and more. Let's carry on with Uncle

(00:22):
Wiggily's automobile. This time Uncle Wiggilyhelps Jimmy. Old Perceval, who used
to be a circus dog, wasn'tfeeling very well. Some bad boys had
tied a tin can to his tail, and had thrown stones at him and
done other mean things. But UncleWiggily had come along and driven the boys

(00:47):
away, and Percival had come homein an automobile of the old Gentleman Rabbit
and was given a nice warm placebehind the kitchen stove where he can lie
down. We don't feel a bitgood, Perceval said to Uncle Wiggily.
I don't know whether it was thetin can the boys tied to my tail,

(01:08):
or the leaves they stuck on me, or the bone they put in
my mouth, or the molosses theyused. I I don't feel very well
at all. Perhaps it is theepisotic, said Alice Wibblewobble, the duck
Girl, as she untied her greenhair ribbon and put on a pink one,

(01:30):
that may be, said Perceval, and he blinked his two eyes slow
and careful like, so as notto get any dust in them. Perhaps
if I made you some dog biscuitsoup, it would make you feel better,
said missus Wibblewobble. I'll cook someright away. So she did that

(01:51):
and Perceval ate it. But stillthat night he didn't feel much better,
and the only trick he could dofor the children was to stand up on
his tail and make believe he wasa soldier, but he couldn't do that
very long, and then he hadto crawl back to his bed behind the
stove. Poor Perceval is getting old, said mister Wobble. He isn't a

(02:16):
lively dog he used to be whenhe showed Pete and Jackie Bowow how to
do tricks in a circus parade. No, indeed, said Uncle Wiggily.
And then the old gentleman Rabbit playedthe blind man's bluff with Lulu and Alice
and Jimmy we Wobobble until it wastime to go to bed. Well,

(02:39):
the next day, poor old Percivalwasn't any better, and when the duck
children started for school, their Mammatold them to stop on their way home
and tell doctor Possum to come andgive Perceval some medicine. We will,
said Jimmy, And just then theysaw Uncle Wiggily putting some gaps celine into

(03:00):
his automobile. Oh dear, you'renot going away, are you, Uncle
Wiggily, asked louly Wibblewobble, asshe picked up a stone and threw it
even better than the lazy duck boycould have done. No, said the
old gentleman Rabbit. I am justgoing for a little ride to see grandfather

(03:20):
Goosey Gander, But I will beback here when you come from school.
Don't forget about telling doctor Possum tocome and see Perceval. So they said
they wouldn't forget, And then thethree duck children hurried on to school so
they wouldn't be late, and UncleWiggily tackle with the flickin' plof of his
auto, and away he went, whizzing over the fields and through the woods.

(03:45):
Well, as it happened that day, doctor Possum wasn't home, so
all that Jimmy and his sisters coulddo was leave word for him to come
and see Perceval. As soon asthe doctor got back, I sent him
right away, Just as soon ashe comes in, said Doctor Possum's wife.
Oh, I am so sorry forpoor Percival. Well, when Lilu

(04:11):
and Alice and Jimmy got home fromschool, Doctor Possum hadn't yet come to
the duck house to see the sickdog, who was much worse, and
Uncle Wiggily hadn't come back for MissusAutomobile White either. Oh dear, exclaimed
Missus Wibblewobble. I don't know whatto do. The doctor ought to come
and Uncle Wiggily ought to be here. Perhaps Uncle Wiggily has met with an

(04:34):
accident and Doctor Possum had to attendto him first. Oh I hope not,
mamma, said Alice. I knowwhat I can do, said Jimmy
the duck Boy. I can hurryback to doctor Possum's house to see if
he has come back yet. Ifhe has, I'll tell him to please
hurry here. I think that wouldbe a good idea, spoke Missus Wibblewobble.

(04:57):
Go quickly, Jimmy, and hereis the malast cookie to eat on
your way. Hurry back and bringthe doctor with you if you can.
So Jimmy said that he would, and off he started eating the molasses cookie
that his mama had baked. Hewas thinking how good it was and wishing
it was larger, when all atonce he stepped on a sharp stone and

(05:23):
hurt his foot so that he couldn'twalk. Oh dear, cried Jimmy,
what shall I do? I can'tgo get doctor Possum for first of all,
now well, he was in greatpain, and he was just wondering
how he could send word to thedoctor, when all at once, what

(05:44):
do you think happened? All atonce he saw a pony horse in the
field nearby the very thing, exclaimedJimmy, that is munch. He trot
the pony boy, and he'll letme ride to the doctor on his back.
So Jimmy took a stick to useas a cane, and he managed

(06:05):
to get right up close beside thepony horse, who was eating grass.
I'll surprise him, thought Jimmy,I'll fly up on his back before he
sees me. So with his strongwings, he flew up on the pony's
back, and he cried out, surprise on you, monchie, please gallop

(06:28):
and trot with me to doctor possumsso he can make Percival well. And
then the funny thing happened. Allat once, Jimmy noticed that he was
on the back of a strange pony. It wasn't much he trot at all.
Jimmy had made a mistake, thinkof that. And the worst of

(06:49):
it was that when he flew sosuddenly upon the pony's back, Jimmy frightened
him, and the next instant thepony jumped over the fence and again,
running down the road as fast ashe could. Oh, stop, stop,
cried Jimmy, I'll fall off.The duck boy had to take hold

(07:10):
of the pony's mane in his yellowbill, in his yellow bill, and
he had to hold on so hewouldn't fall off. Faster and faster ran
the pony, trying to get awayfrom what was on his back, for
he hadn't seen Jimmy fly up,and he didn't know what it was.
Hmm. Maybe he thought it wasa burglar fox, but I'm not sure.

(07:32):
Anyhow, the pony went faster andfaster, and though Jimmy cried as
hard as he could for him tostop, the pony wouldn't do it.
Jimmy was almost falling off, andhe thought surely he would be hurt,
when all of a sudden down theroad came Uncle Wiggily in his automobile.

(07:53):
He saw what was the matter.Hold on, Jimmy, cried the old
gentleman rabbit. Hold on, andI'll be up to you in a minute.
Then you can fly into my autoand be safe. Well, the
pony was going fast, but theauto went faster, and it was soon
up besides the little galloping horsey. Now Jimmy jump, called Uncle Wiggily,

(08:18):
and the boy duck did so,landing safely in the auto, and he
wasn't hurt a bit. Then thepony galloped on until he looked back and
saw it had only been a duckon his back. And then he was
ashamed for having run away, andhe stopped and said he was sorry,
and Jimmy forgave him quick. Wemust go to doctor Possum for old dog

(08:45):
perceval, said Jimmy, and hetold Uncle Wiggily how the doctor hadn't yet
come. Then Uncle Wiggily told howhe accidentally got a hole in one of
his big for retires, or hewould have been home sooner, But it's
a good thing. I happened tocome along to help you, he said
to Jimmy, and Jimmy's thought sotoo. Then they went for doctor Possum,

(09:09):
who had just come home, andthey took him to Perceval in the
auto, and doctor Possum soon madePerceval all well, then, I'm glad
for it. Then the doctor curedJimmy's sore foot, and everybody was happy,
