Speaker 1 (00:03):
Time to take a coding bread. Hello, Hello, hello, and
welcome coder Prose to another episode of The Coding Break
with Tam Chalk. On today's episode, I want to talk
about making artificial intelligence your coding companion. That's right, you
heard I said artificial intelligence, making it your companion. Now,

(00:25):
for those of you who are new to the medical
coding industry, you may have a fear of some sort
of anxiety that artificial intelligence or AI is going to
take us, take our jobs, take us from our roles,
or what have you. But for those of us, those
of us who have been in medical coding, we know

(00:45):
that artificial intelligence or AI has been in the medical
coding industry, or I would say even in healthcare for
a long time. We just did not coin it or
have a title for the UH I would say, the
services or the practice management systems that we were utilizing
because you know, well I don't know why, but we

(01:09):
have a name for it, and it's called artificial intelligence.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
So what does that mean for medical colders.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
It means that our jobs are going to be probably easier,
less error error.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Excuse me, but.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Don't be afraid of artificial intelligence. As a matter of fact,
for those of you who are new to my channel
or just new to the medical coding industry. There's actually
a course with AAPC in which I took that teaches
colders or trained coders how to include or incorporate artificial

(01:46):
intelligence in their day to day coding tasks. And again
it gives you a bit of a historical or background
on artificial intelligence and how it plays a role in healthcare.
And as I mean, this is something this isn't anything
that's new to us, especially if you've been in this
industry for a very long time. It's just we have

(02:09):
a title for it, and I'm sure maybe five years
from now it'll be titled something else. But basically, we're
using artificial intelligence as.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
A code and resource.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
If you follow me on like my other platforms like
TikTok and Facebook, you will see where I actually gave
you like a little cheat sheet or cheat code where
you know, I went to Google AI to pull up
an excuse me, an icdten code or diagnosis code, and
it ran down all the codes that are associated with

(02:43):
the terms that I input are typed in.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
And I use this on my day to day as well.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
I mean, I don't use it all the time, but
when in doubt or if I need a quick reference,
I do use Google AI to find specific things. Now
let me put it this claimer out on this Now,
we can't use Google AI for like okay, we don't
have to be certified, or we could just go to

(03:09):
Google AI and Google A I will tell us everything.
I'm sure Google AI don't get me wrong. It's a
wealth of information. However, to become a medical coder or
to be a medical coder, you need to have an understanding.
Just like like I said, when I took the course
in AI, they provided me with some background on some
historical information as related to artificial intelligence. Well, the same

(03:32):
applies to medical coding. You need to have an understanding, right,
a historical background on medical coding.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
You need to.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
Understand what you're researching, what you're inputting into Google AI,
and then when the results are yelled, you need to
understand what is what your answer is, what your solution is,
or the correct code in which you input right or
the output. So again, Google AI is a quick resource,

(04:03):
but studying to become a medical coder is something that
provides you with a well rounded understanding of the industry
of what you're doing.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
And with AI, the roles are evolving.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
So just like you see marketing tools, we're saying, hey,
you need to get a coding certification. You need to
change your skill set instead of doing this, you need
to get more into the tech avenue. I guess, the
technological lane. I mean, and that's pretty much kind of
how we're going. But we're technically already in that lane.

(04:37):
We're in the technical lane as well as the healthcare lane.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
So we just need to sharpen our skills and we
need to evolve just with the times.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
We just need to evolve our skills, we need to
evolve our role. And medical colders will always be medical coders.
It's just again our roles or our tasks will evolve
to get to use AI as a as a coding resources,
not and not as a system that's going to take
our jobs away. No, you just roll with the punches.

(05:10):
You just roll with the punches. And then also, and
now I keep repeating this as in on my other
platforms as well as on my podcast upisode, is that
you need to start cultivating or getting comfortable, being uncomfortable
with creating different streams of income or different streams to monetize.

(05:31):
So for those of you who are studying to become
a coder, it's okay to start documenting your journey through
the studying process, right. And what I mean by documenting,
whether that be through YouTube, whether that be on TikTok, Instagram, face,
whichever platform you choose to be on, start documenting your

(05:52):
journey through the process of becoming a coder. And what
that is doing is helping you create other skill set
like such as if if you do video formats, you're
learning how to edit, You're learning how to become a
content creator. Right. And then also what is showing to
those who are viewers, especially if it's a brand, it's

(06:13):
showing a possible collaboration, sponsorship, and those things are paid, right,
Those things are paid, especially if you use certain brands
all the time. And I'll use myself as an example.
I shop at Walmart, so I am a partner with Walmart.
So when I create my content about resetting and preparing

(06:33):
for the upcoming weeks, such as time management, I like
to have things in order.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
It saves me time.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
So I use Walmart, right because I can have my
food or my groceries delivered.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
I can have my prescriptions delivered.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
I can go and have my car, schedule, my car
maintenance service, all those things through Walmart. So because I
do use Walmart, Walmart notice and we're partners, So I'm
a Walmart partner. And then when our write a blog,
I can include my links and my blog when I
talk about that. So one of my I guess other

(07:08):
passions is writing or communication. So I write about, you know,
whatever it is as it relates to something that may
link into Walmart, and I of course include them in
that blog.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
And then here I'm.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
On the podcast and I'm talking about Walmart, right, And
so again what I'm saying is create content. Start getting
comfortable with being uncomfortable. Document your journey. So at the
end of your certification exam and you passed, not only
are you a colder medical colder, but you also have

(07:46):
created skills such as again content creation, editing, writing, communication,
whether you want to do a podcast.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
So all those things you've.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Created at least two or three different forms of of
probably five different ways of monetizing. So yeah, So, like
I said, I'll keep repeating this. I keep saying that,
I'll keep repeating that because I wanted to stick to
you to you in your mindset that you're gonna have
to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. This is part of

(08:18):
the process. I know we're talking about artificial intelligence, you're
talking about AI, but this is the way of you
evolving naturally. You're naturally evolving into the next level, the
next level coder, the next level content creator, the next
level whatever it is that you want to be. You
can do that. And then, because I also talk about

(08:41):
evolving learning skills, I also have a partnership with Alison
Courses where again you're able to identify take different courses
that they offer to identify where your purpose or your
calling is, and then you can study that and along
with your coding and hey, there you are. So again

(09:02):
you're enhancing or evolving your skills to become the bigger
or better version of yourself as an individual as well
as a medical coder. So yeah, So to answer the
question in which I was actually doing was answering the
question in regards to AI and the hostile takeover of AI.
AI is not taking over medical coding. Again, we're rolling

(09:24):
with the punches, and again it is a great resource
to have.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
It's just.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Probably allows for a quick time response as it relates
to coding. And then also it's a quick resource or
quick reference resource. So again as a colder, you're able
because you have an understanding, you have the historical background,
you're able to assess whether or not AI is providing

(09:52):
the correct information to our providers or to the insurance companies.
So that's where our roles or roles come in, our
jobs coming in to verify, to to verify and validate
that what AI is putting out is actually correct. So
that's all that I have for this code and break.
So if you have any other questions or concerns that

(10:13):
relates to medical coding industry, the compliance health care compliance industry,
or content creation for medical coding, you know, let a
girl know post under my videos, dm me, message.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Me all those things.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
You know, I do read those and I appreciate your
feedback and your interaction. So until next time, and as always,
code on
