Speaker 1 (00:03):
Time to take your Coding break, How the coders, and
welcome back to the Coding Break podcast where Tam talk
here to talk about all things medical coding related, the good,
the bad.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
And uh sometimes the ugly. So on today's episode, I
want to talk to you first, let me go back.
Let me be a reminder. October first is a few
days away. October first is a few days away. So
what does that mean? The twenty twenty six ICD T
and CM codes will become effective. We will start implementing
(00:40):
and utilizing those codes on October first, So what does
this mean for you?
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Get access to the codes, the new codes.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
There are a lot of code changes, There are a
lot of new codes. There are a lot of codes
that have been deleted. So you need to have access
to that information as soon as I would say September
what thirtieth, how many days are in September thirty thirty one,
the day before it's October first. You need to have
(01:09):
those codes in your hand on October first. So if
you are looking for those and you're looking for them
for free, please visit my website at wwwat Abraham Medical
CODINGCOACHLC dot com and go to the resource page and
click on the link and download not only the new codes,
(01:32):
but also the twenty twenty six I SID ten coding guidelines. Okay,
there's no excuse why you shouldn't have those available on
October first, I have it for you again on my website.
Go to the resource page, you click on the link
and download those guidelines as well as the new codes,
(01:53):
the codes that have been deleted, and the codes who
have somewhat of a change. There's that, so little bit
housekeeping has been completed. But I wanted to come on
and I feel like, again, I feel like I'm constantly
having a conversation about stop sitting on your certification, stop
sitting on your gifts, stop sitting sitting on your gifts. Okay,
(02:17):
and I say that because I had someone comment on one.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Of my.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Posts in regards to trying to figure out how to
pivot or figuring out what their role is as a
coder or a coding professional. So again I'm going to
share with you what I shared with this individual.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Someone is waiting for you to.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Post your content, whether that be a podcast, whether that be.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
A YouTube video, whether that be just.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
A post on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, wherever, you want to
that someone is waiting to hear what you have or
to partake of the gift that has been instilled upon you. Right,
so individuals are waiting for you to share that with you.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
And so.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
I don't want you to pursue your education, pursue your certification,
pursue anything and you just sit on it.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
You obtain that certification, you obtain that.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Degree, you obtain whatever it is that you obtain, in
order to share it with the world, or to share
it with the specific individuals who need it.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
To hear, hear it, see it, or to touch it.
The individuals that are.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Coming behind you, who are trying to journey along that
same road that you've successfully passed or travel. And I
want to speak specifically, I guess to coding. If you
have obtained your coding certification, if you have experience as
a coding professional, or maybe you haven't secured a coding role,
(04:09):
but you have developed some sort of study techniques or
tips that have helped you pass a certification exam, why
not feel free to share. You can do it free to you,
or you can charge it. I mean, I can't tell
you how to how to go about that, but I
will tell you to do it, right. I feel like
(04:32):
I can spoke person, just do it. Okay, So if
you're trying to figure out how to approach it or whatever,
just again, I'd say, just do it. There is no
specific way. You don't have to look a certain way,
you don't have to you know, just do it. I mean, yes,
(04:52):
in the past there were specific goudlance.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Don't get me wrong, there are specific guidelines.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
But before it used to be the standards used to
be a little i almost say esthetically pleasing, like you
had to have a certain look, you have to have
a certain ex set like background, what have you.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
And a lot of that deterred a lot of.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Individuals from pursuing their purpose, their goal, or sharing their
wisdom with others because they felt like they did not
have or did not meet the standards. And I can
attest that, yeah, that algorithm. If we're on the social platforms,
(05:31):
it's has been change it It's changed now. Individuals are
going on just you know, showcasing whatever or sharing their
their wisdom with individuals. And I'm I'm one of them.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
Like if I feel the need or if I feel led.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
To share some wisdom and if I'm in my car
and I'm wearing a hoodie. I'm gonna pull out my
phone and pull out my camera and I'm gonna start
recording regardless of how I look. Of course, I'm gonna
wipe my face and make sure I don't have any crime,
you know, run my mouth if I've been eating. But
I share the wisdom to individuals because you never know
who needed to hear that. You never know who needed
(06:09):
to hear that, and so or like you say, if
you one who wants wants, you have to have some
type of guidance, like you want a visual, Okay, we'll
create a visual. I've seen individuals pull out their coding
books and record their coding books and they're talking so
you don't even see them, but they're but you see
(06:29):
the book and that's okay.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
And they have people.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
Who who who are tuning in to.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
To take in that information. Right.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
So there's there's many many ways that you can share
your your information, your wisdom, your skills with individuals, especially online.
The Internet hasn't made it so easy for individuals to
share or I would say even and to monetize their
gift to the world. Again in the coding ram I,
(07:02):
like I said, I've witnessed individuals. I've even shared recordings of.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Pages in the.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Coding manual as I'm talking about for example, I was
talking about the illustrations or the drawings of the anatomical locations.
So that was helpful to individuals because they needed.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
To see that.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
One went as far as to ask where was it located?
Which book was it located in? So that's what you know.
That's what I did. So you don't have to be
on camera. If you are camera shy, you can be
You can do a podcast such as what I'm doing
now or you again again. You can record and you
don't have to be in the camera.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
You can record the.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
Information, the tool, the resource that you're discussing, a reference
referencing to get your point across. Again, in the same
video where I was in my car and we're in
a hoodie, I was talking about things that.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
I wish my instruct that told me, and I had a.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Book from my book club that I was reading, and
I used that book as an example. Although it wasn't
a coding book, it was just served as a focal
point to ship, to share, or to show that if
you do have the coding book, you can reference that
coding book right a specific pages within.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
That coding book.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
So again and it was people were I, I wanna
say taken for taken.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
They liked it.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Excuse me lost some words there, but you see how
I messed up and and although corrected my verbiage the
same the same way the way that the economy is
set up right now, the culture and how we are
consciously evolving.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
It's all or nothing like it's there. Uh.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
The algorithm is looking for authenticity, they're looking for realness.
They're looking for something s something positive right to share
that can help the many people, especially if you're a
coder or coding instructor.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
You can share for individuals who.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Are looking to pursue their coding certification or to strengthen
strengthen their skill set as a coding professional. And it's
also to me, it's fun to create content because I'm
creating it because it's a fun release for me, and
then I'm also educating the masses on coding.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
So your format can be whatever you want to be.
It can be.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Like say, you can do it via auto podcast, you
can do it via long form video YouTube, you can
do it in short videos.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
You know, TikTok.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
I don't really dabble Instagram like I used to in
the past, but you could take again that same content
and putting on those other platforms, so you don't have
to continuously recreate content that you create foreign platform I
use YouTube for example. If you created a long form video,
you can take clips of that same video and you
(10:10):
can reshare it on TikTok, you can reshare it on Instagram,
you can reshare it on Facebook, or you can share
the long form video on Facebook. So you're hitting the
same all the platforms with just one content right, one video.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
So that's all I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
And I again, as a medical calling professional, and if
you're a calor professional, you have a skill set, you
have something to talk about, you have a perspective, you
have something to offer society. Go for it, and why
not make some money on the side doing that, Like
it's gonna develop your confidence. You're gonna start monetizing and
(10:52):
you're gonna be blessing others with your gifts. That's all
I'm saying. That's all I'm saying. So don't sit on
your gifts because if you sit on it, you're gonna
eventually lose it, and we.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
Don't want you to lose it. Share it.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
Collab with other coding professionals if if you must. I've
collabed with some of my former colleagues on podcasts, you know,
speaking engagements. I have done virtual speaking engagements. I've physically
I've gone and physically spoke at conferences or events in
(11:25):
regards to medical coding. Uh so, there's there's nume, numerous
rays you getting tons out here, numerous ways that you
can create content, share your content and your your coding
skill set. So yeah, so that's what I wanted to
come on and share with you that you are sitting
on a goal mine and don't be afraid to share
(11:48):
your content as everywhere. The more I share, and I'll
say that the more that I share my content, the
more that I see that there are other coding professionals
sharing their content.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Right and you you'll find your angle.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
You'll find you the more you create, You'll soon find
your angle as it relates to your perspective. Like I've
stumbled across an individual who was uh uh. Her perspective
was those individuals who were starting a new career after
the age of forty or fifty. I can't believe, but
it was I know it was more than thirty, right,
(12:24):
So she had a targeted a targeted audience, and it
was to the ones who were switching careers right into coding.
So yeah, so you can create content anywhere. It doesn't
have to be specific to coding, like okay, I'm focused
on in patient, I'm focusing on out patient or pro
fee or whatever.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
It can just be like an age thing. It can be.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
I will say, you're wi the pivot. Okay, I worked
in this particular arena. Now I'm in pivoting into coding
at this spec specific and so there's a target target audience, right.
So when you get that target audience and you just
deliver your your perspective as it relates to manical code
and your skills, your knowledge, and then go forth with that.
(13:14):
So don't be afraid, like at this time, you can't
afford to be afraid, uh of getting out there. You
want to be an audit to, you want to be
a public speaker, you want to be an educator, whatever
it is that you want to be. This is your
opportunity to do it. And it gets to the messes
you m and you again, you don't have to be
(13:35):
on the video. And I will say this eventually, like
I started doing power points on YouTube but now it
but eventually I got in front of the camera. At
some point. You're gonna get in front of the camera again.
Once your confidence level is has been built and you
feel comfortable and you realize it's not as bad as
(13:56):
you think it is, You're gonna wanna get in front
of the camera.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
You wanna you You're going to want to show off
your creativity. You want to You're going to want.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
To share more, you want to do more.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
You wanna pivot, you wanna create more. So yeah, so
go ahead and start. Go ahead and start.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
So that's all that I have for this cold and break,
and again is a reminder be sure to get your
twenty twenty six ICID ten diagnosis goes because those going
to effect October first, And as always, be.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
Blessed and cold on until the next time. Tootles
