Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, this is Mason Dere and you listen toffee Kenoby.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Perfessive. Good shot, baby.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
This is James Arnold Taylor and you're listening to coffee
with Kenobi. I have a good feeling about this. Hello, everybody,
welcome to Coffee with Kenobi. I am your host Stanzia,
and I am joined by a very special co host.
You know him, you've heard him well all of his life.
(00:43):
It is Mason there.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Thank you so much. I'm so happy to be back
on the show and ready for an exciting topic.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Yeah, so we Mason had this great idea. Of course,
as you know, the Mandalorin and Grogu trailer came out
this week and I watch it right away, put something
on coffee with Kenobe dot com about it. There's some
great images for you to check out. So two things
happening was I was at school. It was early in
the morning, so I ran to Tom Gross's office and
(01:12):
I got to watch him watch it, and he giggled
the whole time. And then I came home and I
showed it to Mason, and I think it's fair to
say he had a similar reaction, which we'll certainly talk about.
But what we're gonna do. And again, this is Mason's idea.
I think it's a great idea. I want you to
go to YouTube or coffee with Knobe dot com or
whatever the case may be, and we're gonna watch this
(01:35):
trailer with you. You'll be pausing it periodically and listen
to us chat. So right now, go to the very
very beginning. You can pause me. Okay, I'm assuming you'veon
paused me because you can hear me talk. And we're
gonna hit play in four three two one, okay, so
we're gonna pause it five seconds. Mason initial thoughts.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Just like, amazing shot there, obviously, and it's awesome to
see that razorcrest back.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
So that that's the thing that jumped out to me.
In fact, I said out loud the first time that
I watched this, I was in my classroom. It was
early in the morning, no one was at school yet,
and I said out loud, the razorcrest, the razor crest.
And then you look at this planet. You're not sure
what it is, but looks very peaceful. There's the ocean,
and then you've got the sand dunes on the left
and the beach and you know, me, I don't speculate,
(02:29):
but just seeing their razorcrest makes me very very happy.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yeah, hopefully they can like bring back all the things
they had with that, and who knows what they can do.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
All right, go ahead and hit play. Let's look at
the next scene. I'm gonna let you take this. Why
don't you describe for the people? We went from five
seconds to fourteen seconds? What did you see?
Speaker 2 (02:49):
So Grogu's holding like this telescope kind of thing, and
he just as much as ever, looks like the cutest
living thing. And he's looking at these stormtroopers and scheming
up a plan.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Scheming up a plan. I like that. Do you remember
what you did when you first saw that part?
Speaker 2 (03:09):
No, I don't.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
You giggled like you were so excited. I'm telling you
it was the exact same reaction as Tom Gross, which
is really really funny. Look this tells me a lot
of things. In a really quick second, the Mandalorian and
Grogo were looking over this sand dune. Grogu has this
little mini telescope sort of a thing, which we haven't
really seen something like that in Star Wars, at least
(03:32):
that particular design of it that I can think of,
And it looks like they're equals on a mission together,
and it also looks like Grogu is being taken seriously
by the Mandalorian. But it's also insanely adorable and cute,
so you know, basically, hey, look this is gonna be something.
I hope anyway, this is for kids and fans of
(03:53):
adventure really not unlike the Mandalorian TV series on Disney
Plus itself.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Yeah, I hope they can. Just like I said in
the scene before, I hope they bring back this stuff
from the show and a lot of callbacks to everything,
and I think they'll do a good job.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
I do too, So let's let's go on and go ahead,
and let's look at the next little section here. Okay,
we stopped it at twenty one seconds. As you can tell,
we're just stopping it after every individual scene because there's
not a lot here. This is just a teaser trailer.
You want to start with this when you want me to.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
This is probably the best part so far, and it's
Babu Freak, who is my favorite little creature, and then
my second favorite little creature walks onto the screen, Baby Yoda.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
Yeah, it's definitely an Inzellian. I'm assuming it's Baboo Frick
or it could be another one, but it's probably Baboo Frick.
And then Crogu falls behind. It looks like they're in
some sort of like a sewer or something like that,
and it's just sort of fun because Grogu is so small,
but compared to the Anzelian he looks like he's a
little bit taller. He's got his adorable little brown robe,
and they're patrolling you. First, the light goes down the
tunnel and if you don't know any better, you think, oh,
(04:59):
this is Denjaron w walking down in the sewer're looking
for something. Then has played for cuteness before we continue.
What do you make of the music so far?
Speaker 2 (05:06):
I think it's very like focused on all that's gonna happen.
It's going to play a big role.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
It reminds me I like that. It reminds me very
much of the tone of the original trilogy, where the
music is very heroic and it kind of builds to something.
And the fact that Ludwig Gordnson is back doing the
music for this, because of course he famously did the
theme in the music for seasons one and two, but
not season three, having him back here is pretty glorious,
So let's go ahead and hit play. This next scene
(05:35):
is a big deal for fans of science fiction, fantasy,
and film in general. Sigourney Weaver is in this scene.
It looks like they're in a New Republic our post,
which is what we saw in season three of The Mandalorian.
Sigourney Weaver's character is sitting across the table from the
Mandalorian and Dinjarin and it looks like she has chips
or I think it's chips, like card playing chips, and
(05:59):
grow who uses the force to pull it towards him
and then she grabs it and kind of looks at
him like the are you serious look? Not annoyed, but
like playfully annoyed. And then in the background you can
see the New Republic symbol on the wall. There's some
pilots in the background. What do you kind of what
does this do for you here?
Speaker 2 (06:17):
H probably just the noise that Grogu made it was
like a plasure and it was like so cute.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
Yeah, they are not shying away from the fact that
Grogu is insanely incredibly adorable and charming. Who knows how
many action figures and plushes they're selling just with this
trailer alone. At the time, this recording has got eight
point seven million views, and that is undoubtedly going to
go up. But it very much has a feel early
on of the Mandalorian series, which is what I'm hoping for.
(06:46):
But there's so much more. Let's keep going. The next sequence,
we get the Lucashom logo, we get the familiar shrill
noise of the Mandalorian theme, and we stopped at about
forty seconds. And this is a hero moment. This is
purely not relying on the cuteness factor of Grogu, but
(07:08):
on the Mandalorin being his tough, dangerous, incredible self when
it comes to a fight. He's kicking someone, they fly
across the room and land into this wall of a bar.
They hit the shelf, the glass shelves and things break,
and then Grogu jumps up in lands on his shoulder.
To me, this is just like, great, We've got the
cuteness factory, Yes, but the Mandalorin is still one of
the toughest guys in the galaxy. And you can see
(07:29):
that right there.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Yeah, it looks like that's gonna be building up to
a massive fight, and we obviously knew that there's gonna
be fights in this movie, but we'll see how big
it happens, in what role it has.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
And then these scenes are a little bit quicker, a little
more focused, well not focused, but they're just they're jumping.
There's some creature that comes out of the water. We
see the razor crest flying and some tie fighters chasing it,
and then we see Grogu swimming underwater. So we're getting
a lot of quick scenes because remember this is just
a teaser trailer. Teaser trailers historically, So you anything about
the plot, I just show you some little moments to
(08:03):
get you excited and kind of get you an idea
of what the tone of the film might be.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Yeah, that part when the tie fighters were chasing the razorcrest,
they were going like down, so they were like diving
for the point and they'll probably come back up and
start fighting.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
Yeah, so we're going to see action. As far as
the mystery aspect of the Mandalori is coolly investigating or
spying on something. The Empire is still around naturally, which
to me, the vintage stuff with stormtroopers in the Empire,
the roomnants of the Empire because I'm assuming this takes
place after season three. Undoubtedly there's still some Imperial remnants around,
and we're going to see some fights in space as well.
(08:38):
And now we stopped at fifty two or four more
quick scenes. Again, I don't think we can emphasize enough.
We kind of glaze over, but grow goose swimming underwater.
Any quick thoughts on that.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
It looked cute and like him like coming up for
breath and stuff. It's just exactly how you would picture it.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
And then we see to me one of the complete
standouts of the trailer is zeb Aurelio Skarazebailius of course
from Stars Reel Rebels the lossat from Lassan jumping up
with his weapon, his bow rifle and slashing down is
a really quick scene. We saw him very briefly, of course,
(09:15):
in season three, like really really briefly, and we already
know it's been made very public that he's going to
be a big part of this film. I love zeb
He's one of my favorite characters. So seem in action
is great. They're in some sort of an arena and
then we see a hut holding his hands up and
like flexing and cheering. Now it can't be Jaba because
Java Jat died, easy for me to say, and Return
(09:37):
of the Jedi. This takes place a little over five
years after Return of the Jedi. So it reminded me
of the Hut in the comics whose name is escaping
me at the moment, who's very, very muscular. There are
not many Huts like that, but he plays a big
role in the early Star Wars comics, So that's kind
of what I'm thinking. I certainly have no idea if
that's true, and I don't speculate, but that's what it
(09:58):
looked like to me. He certainly pulled comic book characters
from the world of Star Wars into the Mandalorian, so
it's very possible.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
And everybody as soon as he started flexing, everybody in
the stand started sitting up and cheering, except for the
Mandalorian and Grogu. So either they're trying to look for
something else or they don't like him, right.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
And this is very reminiscent of the premiere of season two,
when the Mandalorian is walking and he's trying to find
other people of his kind, and he finds himself in
a gladiatorial arena and the Mandalorian take care of business
and those. So we'll see what happens. Now he's sitting
in this arena, he's looking over at someone, grog who
is sitting next to him.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
You don't worry.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
At fifty two seconds, let's keep going. I only let
it play like three or four seconds. It looks like
Grogu is eating the Mantel mix. The Mantel mix is
the black and red popcorn that you can get at
Galaxy's Edge or that they used to serve on the
House and the Star Cruiser, one of my favorite snacks.
Grogu is clearly chomping down on that. Did you think
(10:58):
of that too?
Speaker 2 (10:59):
Yeah, that's it's awesome. Just the way he like curved
his fingers around it and put it in his mouth,
he could tell he was a little happy one.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
Yes he was. And that again adds some validity and
some ethos to that too, because if Krogu is eating
this mantelmix, then when you go to Galaxies that you
can be eating the same food as Grogu. And that's
the kind of corporate synergy I can get behind, because
that's awesome. Then the Mandalorian theme sweeps into this epic
hero scale, and we see flashing. This is the way.
(11:28):
There are some sort of creatures again, looks more like
in some sort of a colladiator type thing, creatures. I'm
not familiar with the world of Star Wars. You see
Krogu and the Mandalorian jetpack out of the top of
a vessel which appears to be the ad At, because
the next scene is the ad At blowing up and
falling down.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
What do you think it's awesome to see the ad
At there, because other than Empire strikes back, you don't
really see the ad ad much. And so I wonder
again I'm saying this, but how big of that will
play in the role of the fight at the left?
Speaker 3 (12:02):
And I love that. I don't know if this is
from the beginning of the movie the middle of the end,
who knows. Do I want to watch more trailers after this?
I don't know. Let's keep let's finish this one first
before I make such a big life decision. And then
we're at one twenty two. The trailer's almost over. You
got eight seconds left, and you see the logo the
Mandalori and Grogu. It's got this very old school sci
(12:24):
fi slant to it. If Corey Club was on the show.
He could describe a lot better than me. It's got
Star Wars above it, but the Mandalorian and Grogu are
both in green who got the and and in like
this old western style, which is perfect because the Mandalorion's
always kind of been to Star Wars western cowboy, American
cowboy kind of a thing. The music again is sweep,
and we've got extra drums in here. And at the
(12:45):
beginning of this you saw the ad ad at the
Mandalorian Grogu presumably that's what they jet packed out of,
and it slowly falls down there to other ad ads
still functioning walking across. It's a snowy landscape ad ads.
I mean, it's like it's like Star Wars knows how
to appeal to all of us, the old school fans
like us, the younger fans like Mason, and it just
gives a really sweeping, epic fun scale. I think Star
(13:09):
Wars certainly, when it's serious, it's cool, it's great. But
I've always believed, and I've been made no secret of
this on the coffee with Kenoby, star Wars is so
much better when it's made for kids of all ages,
with a very it's got some adult EAMs, but it's
a fun, sweeping epic and I feel like, again it's
still for me to even predict because I don't know,
but it sure feels like that is what they're going
(13:29):
for and it is working on me.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
Yeah, it's awesome to see the mix of like very
serious and very funny scenes. I hope they continue to
do that.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
And then finally at the end, and it's some other
strang looking creature and it comes out of the water
and it growls at Grogu and the Azelian and he
shoots something out of his wrist, and then the Anzelien says,
good shop, baby, And how'd you feel about that?
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Uh? That was easily the best scene in the trailer
by far.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
It's genius, it's brilliant, it's fun. And you know again
that the pipes at the end, I'm not describing the
music correctly, so I'm so sorry. It goes into this
huge swell and you just get so happy. The letters
in green say, May twenty twenty six, what do you
think the out there we're going to see this today
comes out?
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (14:10):
Probably about a million and ten percent out of one.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
I think you are correct. Well, Mason, before I told
you there was a trailer, what did you think? At first?
Speaker 2 (14:19):
I wasn't sure because with these trailers, you can never know,
especially with the teaser trailers, if they're going to be
anything like it or if it's going to be three
seconds and nothing like it at all.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
And I've been foolishly boasting that, Oh, I'm not going
to watch teaser trailers. I'm not going to watch trailers
because I want to be excited, and that is true,
but gosh, I couldn't resist. I could not resist. You've
seen this a couple of times. I'm assuming it's NAY
plus is naplus for me?
Speaker 2 (14:47):
Yes, definitely a n A plus.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
Well, if there is not, if there will certainly be
a trailer, I mean it's only September, this comes out
in May. Do you think you'll watch the trailer that
shows you more details of the plot.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
Yes, I will, because I want to know if there's
any more cute scenes.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
Well, of course they're going to be cute scenes, and
I cannot wait. I can't think of anyone better to
watch this trailer with than you. I certainly can't wait
to watch this movie with you. I can assure you.
On Coffee with THEO. We're going to be talking about
