(02:40):
I started this with Corey about a month ago, this
this these Fans Spotlights. The feedback has been great, and
the reason it's great is because it's about this community.
And I have two guests on with us on today's
show that are just the physical embodiment of staf Our
Wars community and they're just a lot of fun to

(03:03):
be around. So our first guest, not only as a
long time guest, but for a while when Corey wasn't
doing the podcast, this gentleman was my co host. At
the beginning of Coffee with Kelby, I am, of course
talking about Jeff McGee. Jeff, thanks for being back on
the show, my friend.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Well, I was just waiting for you to ask me back.
You know, I'm just I'm always like right outside the door.
It's a wonder people don't hear me breathing on every episode.
But but yeah, I love the love the fan. Obviously,
I love the concept because that's kind of what when
I was doing Banta Banter was kind of the same thing.
So I'm a big I'm a big, big proponent of this.
I'm glad that you're you're highlighting the fans.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Absolutely well, there's such there. I mean, they're everything. You know,
we're all fans of this, and I was thinking of
Banta Banter a lot. I tried not to use questions
that you used so so well, still, let's see how
it goes. Now you heard a giggle in the background.
She is our other co host for this evening. She

(04:05):
is another long time friend. Well, we've been friends for
as long as you've known Jeff, and you know, Jeff
is about as good a person as you can find,
so he's got to have somebody special to share that title.
That is, of course, Pam Johnston. Pam, Welcome to Coffee
with Canoba.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
Thank you so much, glad to be here.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Yes, I'm excited to have you on. We met. I
guess it was twenty twenty two, which seems that's weird.
That's so crazy.

Speaker 4 (04:31):
As younger, I thought it was a lot longer ago.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Actually right right, Well, this is gonna be fun. We're
gonna look at how you both kind of fell in
love with stars and we're gonna do ladies first. Of course, Pam,
we're gonna start with you on this one. Jeff, you
can pool your answer. So, Pam, do you remember the
first time you heard the word Star Wars? Not necessarily
that you saw any of the films, but you heard

(04:56):
the word Star Wars or saw an image of it.
What was that experience like for you?

Speaker 4 (05:01):
I honestly don't have any memory of my first experience
with Star Wars, which I know is sad, but I
did go see it when it was first released in
theaters in nineteen seventy seven. I was seven years old.
I remember. I don't remember going. I know that I
went because my mom told me that they took us.

(05:23):
So you trust your mom and I trust my mom,
and it just I know, my brother fell in love
with it and we played with his toys, and it's
just always been there. It's like it's like the soundtrack
in the background.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
Of my life. Oh I's been there. Yeah, I love that. Well, Jeff,
I'm going to guess I have an idea of where
you might take this when I'm very excited to hear
do you remember your first time hearing the word Star
Wars or seeing an image and kind of how that
imprinted on you before you even saw the movie.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Well, yeah, I have no idea. I was thinking about
that when I saw the question. I remember going to
see The Empire Strikes Back spoilers for the next question,
and from that point forward my life was nothing but
Star Wars. But before that, I have to think that
I was at least familiar with the term. Otherwise, why
would my brother have taken me except that back then

(06:18):
he was cool. So yeah, I honestly kind of like Pam,
I have no memory of a life without Star Wars
being a part of it.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Sure, I completely get that exactly. Well, then let's just
get it. What Star Wars movie, book, or show first
captured your attention and when did you know that you
were hooked?

Speaker 4 (06:39):
Pam, I'm not going to go with the first time,
because again, my memories are a little fuzzy from that time.
But I'm just I would say Rogue one is what
I was. Never really gone, but Rogue one really brought
me back in and I've been in since. And Rogue

(07:02):
one is the first Star Wars movie I remember seeing
in the theater.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
You don't remember them sixteen.

Speaker 4 (07:10):
I don't remember, so I don't think I saw any
of the.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Other By way of explanation, when the prequels are coming out,
Pam was raising a kid. Yes, and damn if you'll
let me, is you, if I recall correctly, you saw
it the day after Carrie Fisher passed away, right, and
so tell us about when you saw her turn around
at the end of the movie and say, hope.

Speaker 4 (07:32):
Yeah, at the end of the movie, I didn't know
nothing had been spoiled for me. And I'm sitting in
the theater by myself, watching this property that I have
loved my whole life be just aigrated to me. And
there's the scene I remember from from Star Wars where

(07:54):
Princess Leah turns her Oh my gosh, she's it was
her and I just busted out in tears because you know,
it was the loss, and then just everything just all
the emotions rolled up and I just I walked out
in the theater just bawling my eyes out.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Okay, So I would just like to ex to reveal this,
knowing I'm he's huge, biggest Star Wars fan as I am.
Pam did not reveal this to me on our first date.
I think she told me this like a month or
two into the relationship. Probably, I don't know why you
wouldn't have led with that.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
Well, fortunately it all worked out absolutely so, Jeff, I
really thought the last one, you're gonna talk about action figures,
and I'm sure that's gonna come up. It better come up.
That's that's on your resume. But tell me about your
first time seeing stars. Was the Empire the first one
you saw in the theaters?

Speaker 2 (08:47):
It was Empire strikes back as the first one I saw, period,
but he's also the first when I saw in the theater.
My brother took me. I was I would have been
three three and a half years old, almost four at
the time. And I've told this story on your show,
on every show to anybody who will listen. When Han
Solo turned and said to Chebacca, laugh it up, Fuzzball,
that was the funniest thing my almost four year old

(09:10):
brain had ever heard. And I laughed for so long
that my brother threatened to take me out of the
theater if I didn't stop laughing. And so, oddly enough,
anybody knows me knows you know, comedy is my thing.
It's kind of I just I understand funny. I always have,
and the humor in Star Wars is kind of what

(09:31):
sucked me in, I think. But it was that, and
it was and we've all talked, we all know Empire
against spoilers for it later in the show. He is
my favorite. But I just I've just really responded to
the colors in the movie. You got the start quite
at the beginning of the movie. Luke goes to Dagaba
and you get this lush green and brown earth tones.

(09:52):
You get to Cloud City and everything is just pastel almost,
and then you get to the end when Luke is
fighting a and you've got that orange at the bottom,
blue at the top that the cinematographer got with the lighting.
And from that point forward, I just I was in.
It was everything Star Wars. My first figure was a

(10:13):
C three po figure. I feel like I may have
actually had that before I went to see the movie,
but I don't know. I can't confirm that. And so
from that point forward, it's yeah, that it's just been me. Jeff.
Jeff equals Star Wars to most people.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
Who know me, and you probably remember that my first
figure was also a C three po I do oh cool?
I know, it's like we were meant to be best
buddies exactly. Well, let's talk about characters and more specifically
your favorite characters and what about them speaks to you. Pam,
is it someone from Rogue Wonder? Who is your favorite character?

Speaker 4 (10:46):
Mon Mathma? This is my favorite? Yes, that's a fairly
recent it is a fairly recent development. Yes, because I'm
sure Jeff was expecting me to say Hans Solo.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
I was gonna show the picture.

Speaker 5 (11:00):
Yeah, it's been Han Solo, but no, just we've we
saw her her development through and Or and just the
calm elegance that she carried with her.

Speaker 4 (11:17):
She was just she's the kind of leader she didn't
have to be loud to be powerful, and I just
I just love that about her. She she just carried
a weight of importance with her and she knew what
she she knew what she was sacrificing.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
And she knew it. That's very well.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
And it's a crime that that performance did not garner
an Ammy nomination.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
It's insane, It's it's crazy. It's like, did you watch
the show, because it was it was tremendous, absolutely tremendous. Yeah,
and I'm glad to hear you say that. That's the
first time I've heard mon Moth Melissa as a fair character.
But I don't think it's going to be the last.
I really don't hopefully. Now. You said a few moments
ago that Jeff probably thought you were gonna say Hans Solo. Huh,

(12:06):
where should we go with us? Jeff? What about you, Bud?
What's your favorite he's your favorite character?

Speaker 2 (12:10):
Well, I was surprised because Pam has almost as big
of a crush on Hans Solo slash Harrison Ford as
I do. And so yes, Hans Solo is and always
will be my favorite character. It's my favorite character. Barn
Nun just full stop of fiction, of fiction period. Yeah,
Indiana Jones close second, and Zap bran Agan of all

(12:33):
Things is his third from Futurama.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
But I've never seen that show, believe it or not.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
Oh, we'll talk, we'll talk of my tame. But but yeah,
Hant he's just he's always cool but never perfect, And
I think that's what I always responded to, Like we
saw him screw up as often as we saw him succeed.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
And I loved it even when we got Solo. The
solo a Star Wars story. We saw the same thing.
He always made it out, but it was it was,
it was never unscathed. And uh yeah, I.

Speaker 4 (13:06):
Was so jealous when I saw that Showa gets a
picture of him with Harrison Ford hook a girl up here,
you know.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
And if I recall when he found out you were
a teacher, he became very interested and wanted to talk
to you more right.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
That's correct, that is correct? Yeah, absolutely, yeah, Well, no,
I'm glad. I'm glad that it that it's there's Harrison
is han because yes, by the way, you have My
favorite fictional character is You'll never guess. My second is no,
My second is Indiana Jones for sure. My favorite character

(13:45):
of fictional character of all time is Larry David, Larry Dave.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Larry David. That doesn't surprise me. I know you're a
big kirky enthusiastic.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
I love him.

Speaker 5 (13:54):
He is me.

Speaker 1 (13:55):
He is my secret in herself. All right. So I
have this question is do you have a favorite film? Jeff,
You pretty much have said yours. Anything you want to
add to that before we before Pam shares are her
favorite film is although you kind of dardy did, didn't you?

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Well, I will say Empire is my favorite. I think
we got some wag.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
Sorry, Dan.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
You know, Empire is is my favorite and will always
be my favorite film for for many many reasons. But
I don't think it's the best Star Wars film. I
actually think the Last Jedi is a better film overall,
and the Last Jedi is actually in my top three.
He goes Empire a new hope, Last Jedi. I really

(14:39):
really responded to it. So yeah, so it's It's Empire.
But surprise, Last Jedi has climbed up the ranks the
last few years.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
You and I continue to be very similar. Pama is
your's Rugue one.

Speaker 4 (14:53):
No Return of the Jedi. This one has my favorite
lay up. Okay, I love I love I love that
whole scene when she comes in and she saves Han.
The quote you know someone who loves you is just
you know, I'm a girl. It's but also because one

(15:21):
of my other favorite lines is there In is in
there as well, but it's it's the reverse. I love you.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
I know when Han says yes, which is a nice,
really nice callback. I love that well. In addition to
the movies, of course, with the rise of Disney Plus
and streaming series Star Wars. There are a lot of
Star Wars series, but there's not just from Disney. Plus
we've had some animated stuff before. If you encompass all

(15:49):
of the television series of Star Wars, do you have
a favorite, Pam I do, and or season one or
two or just all the.

Speaker 4 (15:59):
Whole saying I loved it from start to finish. I
know there are people out there who didn't really care
for it as much, but I loved it. I am
a sucker. I love world building, and this just layer
upon layer upon layer was was built and it was
just beauty. It was it was dark, and it was gritty,

(16:22):
but it was real and it was beautiful.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
And so so so well done. Yes, yes, absolutely, Hey,
I don't think anyone could find fault with that. That's
do you have a purpose in one or two? Just
curious season one or two if you had to pick.

Speaker 4 (16:38):
I'm guessing too if I had to pick season two, yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
I would agree with that, I would do. You can't
go wrong either way.

Speaker 4 (16:45):
But yes, right, Yeah, Season one a little slow because
of course we were just kind of moving in and
getting in position, and then season two just took off.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
Yeah, and Cassie's a little abrasive, and I think that's
by design. In the warm now, Jeff, I actually don't know.
I feel like I could predict some days for you,
as you probably could for me, But I don't know
what you're going to say. What was your favorite Star
Wars series?

Speaker 2 (17:08):
Droids from nineteen eighty five? No, I'm kidding, No, No,
I'm kidding. My favorite series is it's probably the main
It's no, it's it's it's the Mandalorian. And I think
probably because I think it's always got a hold a
special place in my heart because it was the first
of this of what we have now. But again, I

(17:30):
still think season one and especially season two were just
so extremely well done, and I go back and rewatch
them from time to time and I just really still
enjoy it. But I will say the more distance I
get from it, the more the Acolyte is really sticking
with me too. So that may be one that I'm
going to go back and rewatch as well, because it
was one that I wasn't sold on until about halfway through,

(17:52):
and then by the time I got to the end,
I was all in and then we all know what happened.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
Oh well good, And now I'm sad. Well, we'll try
to change that the atmosphere a little bit. What about
do you have a favorite story arc? I know that
it could be a pretty nuanced myopic question, But when
you think of all the great stuff from the Clone Wars,
Star Wars, Rebels, Mandalorian Act, like everything that you've been mentioning,

(18:20):
Skeleton Crows, is there a certain arc within any series
that you think this one? I mean, I like a
lot of them, but this one really stands out to me.

Speaker 4 (18:31):
I had a hard time deciding between Cassian and den Jjarin,
but I think ultimately Cassian's arc to me is the better,
Well has more weight. He starts off just cynical, just
I just want to take care of me and I

(18:53):
don't want to be in the real don't just let
me take care of what I need to take care of,
And it just grew into just and again, like we
talked about, like I said with Andrew, the series just
layer upon layer, and they just they peeled that away
on Cassie in and it was just beautiful. And and
Or wrote one it just beautiful.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
Jeff.

Speaker 2 (19:19):
I think I'm gonna surprise you again with my answer.
Okayskatano's story arc, or the entire arc from the beginning
of the Clone Wars specifically till the end of the
Clone Wars. But what we've seen since with Rosario Dawson
in the live action version has been wonderful as well.
But we were actually Pam and I were actually talking
about this yesterday. I liken it to the story arc

(19:40):
that Cordelia Chase went through on Buffy the Vampire sla Interesting. Yeah,
when you get to the end of the series, you
go back to the beginning and you do not recognize
the character, but you also didn't see them change because
it was done so subtly, so realistically. That to me
has always been sort of the crowning achievement to Star
Wars storytelling. Is that character.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
I love that, and you're right, I am surprised, but
just because I normally think of you know, you think
it's sort of like the the pillars that have been
around since the beginning or what have you. But the
fact that you don't see them change because I haven't
so organically, that's good storytelling. Those are good characters, and
I would argue Ahsoka maybe could be the best overall character,

(20:25):
but I guess time will tell.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
I guess it's a very very defensible position.

Speaker 1 (20:29):
Yeah, And of course it's also subjective anyway. But I
think there's a lot of a good a good a
lot of good information. There a lot of good meat
on the bone, so to speak. Now, let's talk about
quotes or moments from Star Wars. Is there a certain
quote or moment from anything in Star Wars you kind
of carry with you, Pam.

Speaker 4 (20:51):
I had to think about this a little bit more,
and I did. I did do some searches on different
you know, things and quotes that may have that have
heard but may not have stuck with me. You're gonna
hear this is the theme with me, Cassy and andor
is line. You're not the only one who lost everything.

(21:12):
Some of us just decided to do something about it.
There's just something about that. It's it's not about being fearless.
It's just about, you know, doing something that you have
to do. You just take care of what you need
to take care of.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
There's a compulsion that pulls you towards something that you
know you are you were meant to do.

Speaker 2 (21:35):
Yep, yeah, what about you, Jeff Well obviously laugh it up, Fuzzball.
I carry with me all the time. It's literally written
on my arm in ink and arabash. Yes, But but
other than that, rebellions are built on. Hope is one

(21:57):
that is stuck with me, especially you know, recently, and honestly,
I think my favorite is Luke going It's amazing. Every
word you just said was wrong, because yeah, it just
sounds it's so snarky, and we never see Luke be snarky.

(22:21):
And every time I even think about it, it just
makes me laugh.

Speaker 1 (22:28):
Plus it's, you know, we've all it's kind of it's
like the most, the closest he gets to Larry David. Right,
So when you considered what do you consider film books,
anything that is Star Wars media, comics of course, but
you are very familiar with, Jeff. What piece of Star

(22:50):
Wars media do you find yourself revisiting the most? Not
necessarily your favorite, but the one that you find yourself
revisiting or watching the most for whatever reason.

Speaker 4 (23:00):
For me, it would be the live action shows. I
think they they go they go deeper than than a
than a movie can, and you just you get to
spend that much that time with people that you like
and you and you and you've gotten to know and
learning more about them. I think the the TV shows

(23:21):
give you a little bit more depth.

Speaker 1 (23:25):
Is there a certain one that you're just like, oh, yeah,
I like this having this on. I mean, I'm not
really someone who puts up on the background, but I
know people do or when that you just I will
watch this particular thing more than other things, just because
there's just something about it.

Speaker 4 (23:40):
I like the Mandalorian obviously, I love you all know
now that I love and or.

Speaker 2 (23:45):
So that there's been Yes, that one, that one is.
That one is tough to rewatch those because it is
so heavy. Mandalorian is more like more like more like
Indiana Jones.

Speaker 4 (23:55):
And and Obi wan Kenobi. I love little Leah. I
love her so much. She is so well cast.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
She really is.

Speaker 2 (24:06):
That one that was one we liked a lot, even
more the second time we watched it through when we
got the four K disc.

Speaker 1 (24:12):
It's fun when we visited that one particularly, Yeah, what
about you? How would you tackle this one?

Speaker 2 (24:17):
Well? For me, it's always going to be the original trilogy,
and I have grindhouse editions of all three that are
made to look like they're an old film, real print.
It's a lot of fun to watch. But other than
that I actually find myself when I'm not reading for
Star Wars flash page going back to the original comics,
the original Marvel run from the seventies and eighties, because

(24:40):
I just like going back to it because they were
just so weird and they were guessing about so much,
especially the first two years before The Empire came out,
and they got almost all of it wrong. To harken
back to my last topic, you know, Obi Wan Quixote,
Don Juan Quixote and everything, and Jackson the Six Foot Rabbit.

(25:01):
I just love those because they just there's an innocence
to them and it reminds me of my childhood.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
Makes They're fun and the art is great. Yeah, yeah,
I love that. Well, let's switch over to the to
the world of fandom. How is being a Star Wars
fan influenci your life outside of the stories themselves, Pam.

Speaker 4 (25:25):
For me, that would definitely be a sense of community.
I wouldn't know you or Corey or you know so
many other people were it not for our mutual love
of Star Wars.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
Yeah, and it's the same for me again, you know
this conversation, you know case in point. You know, I've
got so many friends that I know because of Star
Wars thanks to social media, but it's it's also given
me a common point of reference for the world because
so many people know it. I can reference our Wars

(26:01):
and ninety nine percent of the people that I talked
to will understand what I'm talking about, and I think
that's something that doesn't get considered a lot. Is how
it does it. It sort of gives us a common
reference point, and we don't have many of those.

Speaker 1 (26:16):
Left these days. No, we really don't. It's funny when
I when I first started teaching till now, like there's
just certain things that were popular or prevalent at certain
times throughout my career. But Stars has always been there.
It's always always been there. The next question, the way
it's worded, I don't really like how it's worded, but

(26:37):
it says and I already knows the answer. Have you
attended Stars events like celebration, fan me thats are costplay
gatherings and what was the highlight?

Speaker 2 (26:45):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (26:48):
Okay, thanks Jef, I'm just kidding.

Speaker 4 (26:53):
Yes, I got to go to Star Wars celebration in
twenty twenty two, and the highlight there was honestly meeting
so many wonderful people. I got to meet you. It's
at celebration and Corey, matt and Tim and Cynthia and
so many.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
Well did you meet Matthew, Tim, Tim and Chris.

Speaker 4 (27:10):
Tim and Chris. But yeah, it was, it was And
it was just just walking into that convention center and
just the buzz that was there. I didn't even care
that I had to stand in line lines for hours, right,
it was. It was so much fun.

Speaker 1 (27:28):
And Jeff, how many of you been to three I've been.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
To three Star Wars celebrations uh Anaheim in twenty fifteen
and twenty twenty two, and Orlando in twenty seventeen, and
and uh Anya. The highlight for that for me is
also is always, like I said, just seniorbody, you know,
always say that if I can't get a ticket to
the convention, I'll probably just come into town anyway and
hang out so I can see all of you guys afterward.

(27:53):
Because honestly, that's that's the reason I go. That is
the that is the show for It's a lot of
fun and I always have a good time with it.
But if I didn't know I was going to see
so many people, I would not bother going, which is
why I don't go to many conventions around around home.

Speaker 1 (28:09):
I agree with that, and I honestly I remember, like
it was yesterday when Corey and I met you face
to face for the first time at Celebration.

Speaker 2 (28:19):
You're a I thought you'd be.

Speaker 1 (28:21):
I knew you're going to say that. That was an
awesome that was an that was just like kind of
when all calls together. We'd all been talking online for
so long and then you know, to meet these people
face to face is pretty special stuff.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
Especially when everybody is as advertised.

Speaker 1 (28:39):
Yes, yeah, that's a good point. Well, because you've got
so much experience as a podcasters, as a lifelong fan,
You've talked to so many creatives. Who are some of
the creators, whether it be actors, artists, podcasters, authors, et cetera,
who inspire you?

Speaker 4 (28:58):
Yeah, Oh, that question was for you because you're the
long time podcaster.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
All you've been podcasting for months. It's just sitting there.
One who's heard there.

Speaker 1 (29:08):
That's right by the way, we're gonna talk about the trailer.
I can't wait. Yeah, Pam, what about you? Are there
certain people in the Star Wars community creators, whether it
be I know, in the professional world, and the fandom
world that have inspired you that you've really enjoyed their work.

Speaker 4 (29:24):
Yes, well Star Wars for sure. Dave Filoni and Tony
Gilroy with with.

Speaker 2 (29:32):
And or just.

Speaker 4 (29:36):
They're kind of opposite in the way that they approach things,
but you know, Gilroy gives us, you know, grit and
realism and Flony brings heart and mythology and just you
put that all together and it's it's a fantastic property,
you know, And and that balance, you know, I'm I'm

(29:57):
looking for that when in the things that I write
in my retelling. I want that type of balance, and
I think the two of them they do that perfectly.

Speaker 1 (30:06):
What it beautifully has said beautifully, said Jeff.

Speaker 2 (30:11):
Well. I uh, Speaking of the comics, I will always
be a fan of Alissa Wong and the work that
they did on the Doctor Afra comics series, which which
is still probably my favorite Star Wars comics series period
of all time. Love me some Doctor Afra. But other
than that, I'm just really to instead of picking out

(30:34):
a specific person, I'm just really excited to see what
the folks that are working on stuff now are going
to come up with. Because I've been a huge fan
of everything we've gotten so far, they've been very little
has come out that I've been sort of about, and
I find something to like in all of it. And
you know me, it's more fun to like stuff than

(30:54):
to hate stuff anyway. But I really am. I'm just
a big fan of everybody that's working in Star Wars
right now, because everybody is contributing, really inventiving creative ideas.
And again, if you're not reading Star Wars comics, you
really should be because there's a lot of lord that
they're packing into this. It doesn't affect anything in the
films or the TV shows, but it just really it is.

(31:16):
It gives it more seasoning.

Speaker 1 (31:17):
I'll say. I think it's cool that so many people
get to kind of sprinkle their own spice into that
Star Wars melting pot. All right, well, then let's look
at obviously, the two of you share your love of
Star Wars together naturally, but do you share Star Wars
with friends, family, or the next generation, particularly maybe if

(31:40):
they're not even fans, and how do they respond?

Speaker 4 (31:46):
I kind of maybe failed as a parent with my daughter.
She's not a Star Wars fan.

Speaker 2 (31:50):
She doesn't, she doesn't, she doesn't, she.

Speaker 4 (31:52):
Doesn't dislike it. And so when we talk about Star Wars,
she doesn't roller and say, oh my gosh, mom, I
mean I say Star Wars.

Speaker 2 (32:01):
She's almost thirty by the way, folks.

Speaker 4 (32:08):
But she'll buy us Star Wars, Star Wars T shirts
and and things like that. For she supports our she
does support our addiction. My son in law, uh, he did.
He started watching The Mandalorian and and fell in love
with it. So we're excited. We're excited that Grogu was,
you know, our little gateway there. And then we are

(32:30):
obviously going to share it with our grandson when when
he's a little bit older and nopole appreciate it. So
we're gonna start start fresh with the next generation. It's
gonna be a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (32:43):
So, Jeff, how do you share your Star Wars fandom?

Speaker 2 (32:46):
Uh? Without without asking for permission? Everybody that knows me,
you know, I'll just pop up with something and but
but the fun part for me, though, is having that
reputation as a Star Wars guy means that if somebody
has a question about something, they come to me and
I get to talk Star Wars and nine times out

(33:08):
of ten at by the end of the conversation. They're
more interested in it than they were before. So that
that's always fun for me because I know when when
the new movie started coming out and when The Mandalorian
came out, it was always where does this fall in
the timeline? Okay, well here let me tell you here.
There's this this. Now if you want to if you
really want to understand this, you need to want to
make sure you watch this working off on that It's

(33:28):
on Disney Plus. Okay, I'm gonna watch that this weekend.

Speaker 1 (33:31):
Yes, so if yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly, you're you're at
you walk in that room and oh there's the Star
Wars guy, right, yes, absolutely, Well. Are there certain experiences
in the Stars community that stand out to you, whether
they be online maybe stuff with through your podcasting, or

(33:54):
uh just with members of the community, there are certain
stories or experiences that just kind of helped cement all
of these things we've just talked about. You get to
meet Eddie Pence.

Speaker 4 (34:07):
I did get to meet Eddie Pence at celebration, So
that was really really cool. The fact that that so
many people love Star Wars, so many people are into
all of all of you know, everything Star Wars that
you know people like Eddie Pince and his son, and
it was just a great experience.

Speaker 1 (34:28):
It was just.

Speaker 2 (34:31):
All of the.

Speaker 4 (34:31):
Things that that the community opens up the for us,
the opportunities that we have.

Speaker 2 (34:37):
Yeah, and Eddie Pence, incidentally is one of our favorite comedians,
so if you're not familiar with his work, we're looking
up really funny stuff. For me, honestly, you know, getting
to stand three feet from weird Al, even though I
didn't actually get to interact with him at celebration Anaheim
was was great. And having that picture I could make

(34:57):
up whatever story I wanted to to go with him,
and there's nobody to denounce it. But other than that,
it really it really has been those few convention experiences
and getting to experience Star Wars with people that I
care about because what I find and especially when Pam

(35:18):
and I got together, because she was seeing like the
prequels she watched for the first time, and as we're
watching the new movies for the first time, I find
that I'm seeing them as much through her eyes as
through mind, and watching her enjoy it helps me enjoy it.
And it's the same way with all of my friends.
Seeing my friends just get really passionate about something and

(35:39):
go all in and gets so excited about it just
really does me good and it amps me up. So
that's kind of a broad answer, but that's my answer.

Speaker 4 (35:49):
A good answer.

Speaker 1 (35:49):
That's a very good answer, and it's truth. It's all true.
The next question asks, it's worded, do you collect Star
Wars memorabilia? Insert laugh track. So we'll start with you, Pam.
I'll try to reword it. Do you collect Star's memorabilia
books for merchandise? And what is your most treasured item?
And I'm gonna just I.

Speaker 4 (36:11):
Do collect and my most prized possession, my precious is
my bous lego mask Jeff got for me and we
put it together together together. Yes, yes, So it's an
experience and it's surprised possessions and memory and a memory

(36:33):
that's fantastic.

Speaker 1 (36:34):
All right, Jeff, I know you collect. You have been
a great enabler as your mom was for you, as
your mom was for me. We you and I and
Corey have been enabling each other for far too long.
You have a do you have a prize Star Wars
possession in your collection? Uh?

Speaker 2 (36:52):
Yeah, if the ones that I would least like to
lose would be my obviously the walrust Man, which you
know the story behind that that I got.

Speaker 1 (37:03):
This is literally the one you gave me yep with
me all.

Speaker 2 (37:07):
The time, so that one I would hate to lose
that one and my card Investment Han Solo. Those are
the because that's my favorite toy of all time, my
favorite action figure everything, So those are the ones that
I would least like to lose. But I've also got
Pam got me a couple of years ago for my
birthday this decanter set that came in this wooden box.
It has a millennium falcon etched into it, and the

(37:29):
decanter has the falcon on it, and then there are
two tumblers that have one as the Empire logo, one
has the Rebel Alliance logo on it came from Ukraine,
I believe, wasn't it. Yeah, So that obviously goes on
that list as well.

Speaker 1 (37:46):
Well as either individually or as a couple. Do you
have a personal Star Wars traditions that you honor, whether
it's like a certain movie a certain time of year,
there are there certain Star Wars traditions that you have.

Speaker 4 (38:00):
We try to make it through the holiday special on
Life Day.

Speaker 2 (38:04):
But we watch it with riff tracks, which is the
only way I can get through it. So we do
that on Life Day, and we typically will watch one
of the movies on May the fourth or on May
twenty fifth. We'll try to watch the the the original
Star Wars on that as well. But other than that,

(38:26):
you have the holiday special and we'll we try to
watch them at least every three or four months.

Speaker 1 (38:41):
No, just some one, sure, sure, I gotcha. If you
could bring one prop home from the Star Wars universe,
what would it be. It's legal, it's official, it's fine, lucas.

Speaker 2 (38:59):
Or is it like a prop from the movie from
the movie Okay, Yeah, I'm gonna change my answer to that.

Speaker 1 (39:04):
I would say yeah, because I would say I'll take
a light through like a chop down trees would be
so much.

Speaker 2 (39:08):
Easier, right, I was gonna I was gonna say the Force,
and then if that was a no go, I was
gonna say, Okay.

Speaker 1 (39:13):
Now that's why the word prop is in the question.

Speaker 4 (39:17):
I would say either Hans Blaster or the the Boosh Mask, probably.

Speaker 2 (39:26):
The boh Mask. Yeah, that's okay, that works because I
would want Hans Blaster.

Speaker 1 (39:33):
Yeah, the d L forty four. Right, that's the name
of it. Yeah, oh man, I did.

Speaker 2 (39:37):
I'll tell you. I get to I get to brandish
a mouser on stage and I felt like Han Solo. Yeah,
I was in a production if I show like Holmes playing,
the director said I want you to have a mouser.
It's totally an aganiscent, but it's gonna look cool. And
I said, you like this And I said this one.
He says, yes, it's Hans Solo's gun. So I got
I got to use Han Solo's.

Speaker 1 (39:57):
Gun and that's and that would be your prop. Yep,
that's great. I love that. Well, let's look ahead at
Star Wars. What do you think makes Star Wars so
enduring after all these years? And what does it mean
to you personally?

Speaker 4 (40:16):
It's it's all about hope. You've got force users. Yes
they're not really all powerful, but you know they have
the force behind them. But ordinary people just fighting toward
a common goal. And I just think that we all

(40:37):
need a reminder every now and then that light can win.

Speaker 2 (40:45):
Here here you stole my answer, No, I didn't. Well,
I think as far as is White reaches people out,
I think Pam is correct. I think you know there's
a positivity to it, and people gravitate toward things that
make them feel goo as they should, and Star Wars
is it's positive, it's hopeful, at least at its best.

(41:06):
I believe that it is. But let's not forget again.
I'm big into what's funny. There's some genuinely funny stuff
in the Star Wars universe, and that humor coupled with
the action and the really serious themes, I think it's
a package that people respond to, and as long as
there are parents who are forcing it on their children,

(41:29):
it's a self perpetuating sign of.

Speaker 1 (41:31):
The world's a better place. Yes, absolutely so. Star Wars
the course has been around for almost fifty years. Undoubtedly,
as with most things, our feelings can change, they can grow,
they can be impact by other things. How have your
feelings for Stars changed over the years? Are there certain

(41:52):
times when it just kind of hit you differently? Or
did you ever have a lull in your fandom?

Speaker 4 (41:59):
I don't think I ever had a lull on my fandom.
My fandom has started very, very with a very slow burn,
but it has gradually grown into a pretty blazing passion
right now, so it's only gotten better.

Speaker 2 (42:19):
And I thought a lot about this one when you
sent me the questions list. This is interesting for me
because I think the thing that's different now than when
I was younger is that I've realized and accepted that
it's not perfect and that that's okay. Like there's some
of the movies that I absolutely do not like, some

(42:40):
of the TV shows I don't care for. Some of
it that is great and that's okay. And when I
stopped expecting it to be perfect, I started enjoying it
a whole lot more.

Speaker 1 (42:53):
Which ties in again to both of you in just
honesty right on a bashly being your yourself, and that
means it's okay you can criticize what you love. It's
like family, right.

Speaker 2 (43:05):
Yeah, yep, absolutely.

Speaker 1 (43:08):
Is there is there an unexplored corner of the galaxy
of stars you like to see told in a future story.
Maybe there's a certain character who's there's a part of
their past or their future you want to know more about.
Maybe there's a planet that you think is interesting. Is
there an unexplored part of stars you'd like to hear
told about in a future story.

Speaker 4 (43:27):
I'd like to see more of the Night Night Sisters, Yes, Sisters. Yeah,
just that that whole dark vibe. Sure it's spooky season, y'all.

Speaker 1 (43:43):
It's yes, that's one of your motives.

Speaker 2 (43:45):
Yes, No, I'm laughing because is that diametrically we oppose
we are in certain ways. She's going with the Night
Sisters of Dathamir. I just want a Star Wars sitcom.
I want. I want like a maybe a three camera
setup sitcom, maybe like a single camera at sitcom, but

(44:06):
I want a sitcom. I would love to see Detours.

Speaker 1 (44:10):
I was just gonna ask.

Speaker 2 (44:11):
Aparently it's completely done. It's it's completed, its scripts and everything,
and it's it's done. We're just never gonna see it.
I would love to see Star Wars Detours. I would
love to see a Star Wars sitcom. And I would
like a Star Wars baking show where we're using real
world ingredients, but we're making things based on what we
see in the galaxy far far away.

Speaker 1 (44:32):
You know, the two of you could make a heck
of a cool YouTube channel out of that.

Speaker 4 (44:36):
We sure could, couldn't we.

Speaker 1 (44:39):
Maybe you could be that show, be the show you want,
be the show. Yeah, I think that's a famous you
want to see in the world. That's right, that's right.
I Finally, if you could give one piece of advice
to someone just starting their Star Wars journey, what would
it be.

Speaker 4 (44:59):
Take time, don't worry about the what should you watch first?
What order that debate? Don't worry about it, just you know,
explore it, find the stories that resonate with you, and
just enjoy the ride. I mean, it's a beautiful, rich,
enduring line ride.

Speaker 2 (45:21):
And I would say, just relax. It's not supposed to
be that serious. I guarantee you there's going to be
something you're going to enjoy, because that's the other great
thing about all the Star Wars content we've got in
the last few years. You can find just about anything
except to sit town in a cooking show.

Speaker 1 (45:40):
Right, But we're working on that.

Speaker 2 (45:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (45:44):
Yeah, it can be daunting, like I guess, even like
with the Marvel Cinematic Universe or collecting comics, whether no
matter what characters here's you're interested, and there's so much
out there. Once or once every year or so. I
have a good friend who comes on the show and
he's never seen any of the Star Wars movies and
he's the same age as us, So when he talks

(46:05):
about it, there's a certain kind of a purity that's
untainted because he doesn't have all the baggage, and it's
very intimidating. So we're like, well, let's just kind of
enjoy it leisurely because, like you've both been saying so
well over the course of this hour, Look, it's supposed
to be fun. It's okay to laugh, it's okay not

(46:25):
to like it all. There's so much richness because of
things beyond lightsabers and millennium falcons. It's just a great
story that brings great people together.

Speaker 4 (46:38):
Listening to coffee with Knobe, you are with Danzi the
podcast you're looking for this is.

Speaker 1 (46:52):
And truly what could be better for us than to
spend this time with you. And there's something really really
exciting that you both have worked on that we get
to look forward to come December first. Please please please
let us know what amazing project you have coming out.

Speaker 2 (47:12):
Sim I'm very excited, Dan, thanks for giving me a
chance to plague this. This is something I've wanted to
do for well over a decade since I started podcasting.
I wanted to do what I call an audio advent calendar,
where you record a short episode and you release a
different episode every day from December first up through December

(47:34):
twenty fifth, and Taylor and I talked about doing it
with Talking Toys with Taylor and Jeff, but it was
just it was really tough to schedule. Then I realized
I lived with Pam and she likes the same stuff
I like, and so I said, hey, Pam, what do
you think about this? And she said cool. So what

(47:54):
we're doing is we've watched all of the Rank and
Bass holiday specials nineteen sixty four all the way up
through two thousand and one, and we reviewed them. That
gets us through the eighteenth of December. From there to
the end of the month, we're going to put in
some shows with just different topics about the holidays. You know,
our favorite Christmas memory, what was the favorite Christmas toy

(48:15):
you ever got, your favorite Christmas song, Christmas movie, things
like that. So it'll be available. There's a teaser up
right now and.

Speaker 1 (48:25):
Endor by the way, thank you, thank you.

Speaker 2 (48:27):
And we're going to release the first episode actually on
the day after Thanksgiving, just to kind of what everyone's appetite.
But then starting on December second, you'll get a new
episode every day and they're running between twenty and thirty minutes.
I think we've had one that was about forty that
was a that was an epic show. But I can't

(48:47):
speaking for myself. I've had a ball doing it.

Speaker 4 (48:49):
Pan.

Speaker 2 (48:50):
This has been your first real experience doing it has
been for you, It's been.

Speaker 4 (48:53):
A lot of fun. Yeah, And you know, getting me
I don't talk. I don't talk a loge, so getting
me to talk is is is a is a feat
in itself.

Speaker 1 (49:04):
But you're a good talker and you know what you're
talking about, and you're in there with the champ, one
of the odd fathers of our time. Absolutely, it's great.
Oh did you say the name of the show?

Speaker 2 (49:17):
It is called the Audio Admin Calendar literally and where
can calendar? Well, you can find it any you just
have to search for the Audio Admint Calendar. You can
also there will be a link up on marvindogmedia dot
com that will take you to our our spreaker page
where you can listen straight from the website. Or it's
got an r SS feed that you can copy into

(49:38):
your your podcast or if you use one. But uh,
it should be available by the time the first episode
goes lid. You should be able to search Audio advoint calendar,
and it will be one of the first couple of
hits that you get, and you'll know pretty quickly that
it's us.

Speaker 1 (49:53):
Yes, and so if I subscribe to the Marvin Dog
Media feed, will it will it shelter there too?

Speaker 2 (50:00):
Know that I don't. We don't have that feed anymore. Okay,
you got a little too.

Speaker 1 (50:05):
That explains it. Okay, I just I thought that.

Speaker 2 (50:10):
Thanks for asking about that, because I know I know
people who were sat it became too unwieldy to uh
to manage.

Speaker 1 (50:19):
No, I completely understand that. Well, Jeff and Pam truly
thank you so much. What a delight, what a pleasure,
a lot to do this again without recording, just so
I can catch up with you guys and just see
your happy, smiling faces. Please let everybody know where they
can find you if they want to reach out to
you about Christmas, about Star Wars, about Pam's obsession with

(50:40):
Datha me or whatever they.

Speaker 2 (50:41):
Want to talk about. Well, I I'm not I'm not
that much online anymore. You can find me on Instagram. Uh,
we have a Martin dup media account there. You can
also I think I'm Matt, I think I'm at count
Jeff on Instagram, Yes, and threads, so you can find

(51:02):
me there. I cross post there and post some some
stupid stuff there, so that would be the best way
to follow me.

Speaker 1 (51:07):
You are you on threads?

Speaker 2 (51:09):
I know you were on Blue Sky. Yeah, but I
don't know.

Speaker 4 (51:12):
I don't know how to I don't know how to
get it.

Speaker 1 (51:14):
She's on Facebook.

Speaker 2 (51:15):
You won't find this is true.

Speaker 4 (51:17):
You might find me on threads, but I will find you.
Yes Instagram. I'm also a grandmother, did.

Speaker 1 (51:27):
I make And just like that, our journey through the
galaxy for today is come to a close. Thanks for

You can find Coffee with Kenobia on social media or
go to coffee with kenobe dot com for articles, merchandise
and more ways to connect. So, as I mentioned at
the top of the show, I have an announcement of
a schedule change for My Goodness since two thousand. We
started the show in twenty thirteen, it was a biweekly

(52:54):
show and then in two thousand menu of this two
thousand seventeen I went weekly. So from twenty seventeen until now,
CAWFW with with Kenoby has been a weekly podcast that's
a lot of shows, that's a lot of talking about
Star Wars, and I wouldn't have imagined it would be

(53:16):
as fun or as exciting as it has been. And
I knew it was going to be great. There was
a lot of great people I've met in this community.
Star Wars is such a rich, deep, profoundly wonderful mythology,
and I have enjoyed talking about it. With things kind
of quieting down a little bit, I have decided to
switch Coffi Kenoby from a weekly show to a monthly show.

(53:38):
So why am I doing this? Well, there are a
couple of reasons why. For one thing, I feel like
I have run this race. I have enjoyed and embraced
Coffee with Kenoby and this podcast every single week for
thirteen years. Now, I guess you combine the bi weekly
show at the beginning, and now it's been over thirteen
years of cowfe with Kenoby, and I feel so at

(54:01):
peace with what the show has done, or what we
are doing, and what we will continue to do. But now,
schedule wise, I want to switch to a monthly schedule.
As you know, if you've listened to the show, for
a while. I'm working on a second master's degree. I'm
doing a lot of writing. I'm certainly still working on
the bill Joon Darth Vader magazine for fan Home that

(54:22):
goes with that wonderful model kit that we talked about
a few months ago. I've got some other projects cooking,
and I've got a ton of other things that I'm
really interested in that I want to explore. So yes,
Coffee with Kenobi will continue. It will be monthly. I
will say that as things come up, whether it be
books or certain events with the theme parks or movies

(54:43):
or Disney Plus shows, there may be more than just
a monthly episode. But as it stands now, besides the
occasional bonus episodes, this will be a monthly show, and
I'm very excited about the direction of it. Coffee with
Kenobe's still going to be very active on social media.
On the website Coffee with Kanoby dot com. You can
still certainly please use Emi Travel and mouse fan Travel.

(55:06):
It helps Coffee with Kenoby and more ways than you
can possibly imagine. You can still find me, Tom Gross
and Corey Club every single week on cwkpor Over that
has our weekly exclusive Patreon show over on that show.
We do Star Wars, we do pop culture, we do
comic books, we do movies, to do sports, we do food,
we do holidays, we do all kinds of fun stuff.

(55:27):
So I will still be on your podcast catchers and
talking star Wars and all kinds of things, just in
a very different schedule. So thank you so much. If
you have any questions, certainly email me Danzy at Coffee

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
