Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Cold Cases Solved Podcast, a podcast that
shares the most recent solved cold cases. Our purpose is
to help bring closure to the victims' families and hope
for those waiting for justice. Let's begin.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
A forty year old case has been solved. A seventy
eight year old man who has now been charge of
the murder committed over forty years ago. Deck Brewer Junior,
and man already in prison in Massachusetts, has been charged
with the nineteen eighty murder of twenty five year old
Susan lay Wolf. Wolfe had just enrolled as a nursing
student at the University of Texas at Austin when she

(00:39):
was kidnapped, actually assaulted, and killed on January ninth, nineteen eighty.
Wolf was kidnapped one block from her home while walking
to a friend's house at around ten pm. A witness
ar costs stop before the driver exited and grabbed Wolf
in a bear hug, placed a coat over her head,
and forced her into the back of the car. Wolfe's
body was found the next warning in an alley and Austin.

(01:01):
Her body had evidence of literature strangulation and the cause
of death was a gunshot wound to the head. During
an automos the pathologist found evidence of a sexual assault,
but one of two unknown suspects seen in the car.
For a year after the murder, investigators followed dozens of
leads and tracked down dozens of cars that fit the
witness description. Police said over the years it had over

(01:22):
forty people of interest. In April twenty twenty three, detective
submitted evidence related to Wolfe's sexual assault to the Texas
Department of Public Safety Crime Lab. In February, Austin Police
received the test results, which produced a male profile for
the suspect that eliminated six suspects were not a genetic
match with the evidence. Police then entered the profile into

(01:43):
the Combined DNA Index System known as CODIS, which operates local,
state national databases of DNA profiles from convicted offenders, unsolved
crime seeing evidence in missing Persons and March, Austin Police
received a notification for a possible match where Brewers currently
incarcerated and unrelated charges. The deductors conducted a short interview

(02:03):
with Brewer in which she said he had been in
Austin and San Antonio around the time of the murder.
Brewer asked for his right to a lawyer when he
was told DNA was found out the scene of a murder.
After the DNA comparison was conducted to an Austin court
found probable cause to charge Brewer in the murder of Wolf.
So it appears they have some closure now after forty
four years. She was twenty five at the time, and

(02:25):
you can see the crime with the literature strangulation. Don't
know if that was Paul part of the sexual assault
or trying to kill her the gunshot wound. Obviously there's
no huge animosity in that sense where it's not a
crime of anger or passion of any sort. So either way,

(02:47):
good news is that they solved so far, looks like
it's been solved. They found the perpetrator, possibly the alleged
perpetrator of the murder of this young girl. That's it
for now.
