Speaker 1 (03:18):
What's up, buddy, It's good to see you. Yeah, it's
great to be doing a show finally here. Yeah, yeah,
my god, I was just got done watching the highlights
from Michigan State football's practice.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Here.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Guys are really crushing tape out there. Crushing tape. That's
what we do.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
Did you use the old highlights when you went the
other last week? No, I'd use fresh one.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
I could have swore I saw the same two highlights.
The uh what do they call those? The wide receiver
under similar type of drills? They're they're in full pads
instead of shells. Now you know they've got pants on?
Did you just why don't you just record like Solari
watching the practice. I'd rather watch that. I'd rather see
Solari watching the practice. So some people his react and
a lot of people actually would. Maybe that's something we
(03:57):
do next time. And the funny thing is some of
that video is from Salary, Like he sends me some
clips and I take some clips. You can always tell
the ones he took because the photoquall the video quality's
not quite as quite as.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
His mind shot there. Yeah, but yeah, and the next
week I'll have him shoot. I'll have him shoot for us,
and I'll take video of him shooting. I think that
would be I would rather have that. Okay.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
I appreciate you guys going out there and grinding tape
for us, But man, I.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Don't know what I got out of that. I'm pretty
sure there was a punter formation. We are appeasing our
bosses who love video. A long snapper, yeah, us some
long snapper vid. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Hopefully people got some reaction out of that. Hopeful we
got some clicks. But anyway, man, good to see you
you too. You look great today. Do you look unbelievable today?
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Wow? What a mood you're in? Oh dude, it's unbelievable.
What a mood? Yeah? Yeah, So people are wondering a little.
We'll get into the show snaffo we put why we
didn't do a show on Monday.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
We got bumped for Magic Johnson. We did, come on,
mister Lancey promised himself I had an exclusive with Jack
eb what's that? No, it was not an exclusive with
Jack Eblin nine other people at an interview as well. Yes,
same time with Magic. So what basically Magic drives me nuts?
I mean I've been trying, like I'm sorry, like I'm
not going to.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Do that Magic. Yeah, it's just too lancing to Brethren
of Lancing Beef and still a little bit no. I
you know, a couple of years I've tried to get
Magic for a story I want to do. But I'm
not going to do group interviews. I mean, i don't
care who the f you are, Like you like that
stuff sucks that Well, this wasn't a group This was
like you would go he was on a zoom call
(05:29):
and then he would jump onto your show. Then he
would end the show and then go on someone else.
That's not too bad. I could have done something like that.
I want to you looked into it, though, No, no,
what there just got pissed off Magic Johnson. They're willing
to get him for me for the story I want
to do. The problem He goes to Grease for like
six months every summer. Absolutely, why wouldn't you have I'm
(05:51):
not complaining. Look, we take enough time off that pisses
people off too. But once, once he is getting close
to that grease trip, like his people can't even get him,
Like it's like they you know, it's you got to
hit him in the right time of year. So just
imagine if you were up in northern Michigan. I mean,
come on, wherever your happy spot is, that's Magic Johnson's
happy spot. So our plan originally Jason was going to
the Tigers game on Monday night, and so we were
(06:14):
gonna do a show a little earlier about noon. And
I had forgotten that Ebling had asked me. And Ebling
did ask like he asked a while back, like that
he had Magic on it. One was that gonna be
a problem. We usually start, you know, sometimes around one thirty,
so big deal. Oh great, And I'd forgotten that when
we agreed to it. So all of a sudden, we've
kind of I get here because no one told me.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Now I get here and I see Ebling's producer, Rob,
and we do the Spider Man point in each other thing,
what are you doing here?
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (06:40):
I always love seeing Rob. But yeah, then it's like, oh, yeah,
we have an interview, so yeah, show over for yesterday, yes,
And then today we got couch crushing tape at Spring
practice or whatever we call it. What do we call him?
The summer practice fall? Yeah, before fall. So we almost
didn't have a show today either. I'm like, god, we're
never going to get this hot take showing we have.
I think that's how the show going to end. Just
(07:00):
something is just gonna come up on every show and
then like five shows will be canceled.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
We'll just go. I guess we can't do it anymore.
Be the end of the show. So but we're happy
to do today's show. I think I knew it would
be a better show. I didn't know it was going
to be this much better. Wow, So you're promising stuff because.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
I'm not promising anything. I'm just talking about last night.
We went and went to the Tiger's game. We're at
the home Plate club. Jordan and I were hitting bets.
The wives were there. They were having a great time,
free food for everybody. I mean, my god, what are
we waiting for?
Speaker 2 (07:30):
You lead us off, though, ZEVI sty important victory a
scampling day.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
And by the way, we did home run bets last
night because we were going to the game. So we
did a little stupid couple of stupid bets. But I
really think this is a great gambling opportunity to jump
on the Tiger's bandwagon right now. I know we're all
depressed after that terrible all after the All Star Break,
before the All Star Break and everything, not getting the
players we wanted, But my god, Graham, the Twins are
(08:02):
a shit show.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
We got the White Sox.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Coming in, and we have the Angels coming in, but
that fails into comparison to what happened last night. We
had unbelievable seats. I don't know, if you're not on Twitter,
you're on Blue Sky or whatever couch is on. Maybe
he can show you a picture or two. But my god,
this home plate club for a guy like me to
be able to experience something like, by the way, I
can understand why people in bezel money, Like if you
(08:25):
get let into something like that and you're like, my
if you're like me, just a normal guy, and you
see that.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
And you go, man, this is how the other half lives.
I watch American greed.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Maybe I can come up with some Ponzi scheme or
something like that where I can get in here all
the time. Because my god, they had free food, like
all of I had tenderloin. There was sirloin. It was
like all you can eat, but they do it and
like with little plates so you don't feel like a
super fat ass. So you just go up there and
you grab like one or two. You go back to
your table and there's always someone constantly revolving grabbing your
(08:54):
plates for you. You have to overly thank them because
you're like, my god, this is terrible. You feel bad,
and there's like free candy. You can just go up
and grab peanuts if you want. I mean, is it's
unbelievable to be at that level of rich. It's gotta
be a shout out to my friend Jordan, Michigan fan. Jordan,
I mean, it's finally paid off being friends with a
Michigan fan for all of these years to get to
go to something like that. Thanks man, what a great friend.
(09:16):
And by the way we hit bets yesterday. I had
a gut feeling on the way there. Matt Wenzel Matt
Wenzel Perez as Jack Evelin calls him home run boom.
How much money do you make yesterday? I mean I
made a short amount of money. My friend Jordan, he's
the one he had Dingler and carps a two leg
home run parlay thirty to one that he put one
(09:38):
hundred dollars on, so he was really really happy. I
you know, I cleared about one hundred bucks I could
have bought. Maybe I could have bought a shirt in
the exclusive gift shop in the home plate club. So
what Yeah, so they have so the food is free
if you have these tickets, Yes, and everything is free, free,
booze free. I don't do that anymore. I've had my
card revoked, so I can't booze anymore. But I definitely
(09:59):
could eat and have some mgs. And by the way,
the game last night, I've never said this in my
whole life. I wish the game was longer.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
It was really fast. It under two hours all the times.
To have the home club and have all that shit,
I was.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
They let you sit there for a half hour and
loiter after so thankfully the MG subsided through them. But
I was like, my god, I timed this all wrong.
This is unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
Like I very much on TV, appreciate the pitch clock,
appreciate the changes in baseball, but when I'm at a game,
sometimes it's too quick. Now, sometimes you go all the
way to Detroit, like and you know, it's just like, yeah,
you want to get there early.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
Well, the weather was perfect. I mean we I just
have to say, like everything last night delivered. Shout out
Chris Eastlick. But anyway, the everything with I mean the parking,
you just slide right into that McLaren parking, the McLaren
ramp parking, You walk right across the street. They let
you right in, They're happy to see you. It's just
an unbelievable I get it. Man, I'm not gonna embezzle.
(10:57):
So I did hard seventy two hard days Ingham County job.
I've seen the other side, so there's no way I
could ever do that. I think I want to go back.
I recorded the game knowing you were there on Infinity,
which has an unbelievable DVR. I mean, it's one of
the reasons we have Exfinity. I mean it's been very
happy since. But it was one of the reasons I
switched to it was the quality of the DVR, especially
(11:18):
on mobile, and so that was something I use on
the road when I'm working. But I'm gonna go back
tonight and I want to see if I can see
you wolfing down food. But you were on the right
hand side. Well, I didn't. Honestly, I only wolfed. I
wolfed in the middle of the game. I mean Teres
went and got me an ice cream cone because I
did not move because when I it's kind of like
a plane ride for me, like when I get the
MG's going, like, I didn't want to miss anything, So
(11:41):
we ate before the game for like forty five minutes,
went to the seats and I didn't budge because I
didn't want to miss a damn thing. I was soaking
every single piece of that. So you'd be a great
soccer fan. You can't leave in the middle of the
game because there's no time out. You'd be a great
soccer fan. You would actually like. But I'd have to
do cocaine instead of that. It's fair because I'd have
to stay awake somehow. Who we can find a sponsor
does that. But anyway, great night last night, my god,
(12:06):
and the Tigers won. Yeah, so I had a little
bit of a Tiger's take off this And you know,
I know that there was some frustration with the way
the Philly series went to some degree, although I think
they played pretty well. The Phillies are really good, but yeah,
they are, and I know the Phillies made the move
for the type of pitcher at the back end of
your bullpen that the Tigers would want.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
But I didn't. You know, when I look at the
Tigers right now, I actually left this past weekend, and
not just because Morton and Finnegan, those guys have been good.
I left it with a pretty prop I mean, the
return from the trade deadline looks we'll see what this happened.
Looks smart right now. And part of it is when
you look at the rest of the roster, like how
(12:49):
much do you want to give up for a team
who's best player is Riley Green, who just gets out
after out after out after out these days for the
large Like, what I mean is, I don't I don't know.
If the Tigers don't win a series in the postseason,
the Tigers aren't really contenders. Some of it might be
they didn't go all in at the back end of the bullpen,
(13:10):
because I do believe bullpens win postseason series. And we'll
see some of their starting rotation may wind up in
the bullpen. We'll see what that looks like with that group.
Casey Maize might be in the bullpen by the postseason.
Who knows. But some of it too, is that the
guys that they're counting on, the guys that at some
point we'd probably like them to pay, Like I just
don't know if they're good enough yet there and maybe
(13:31):
they could have added even more and more and more.
But I think some of it will be like Riley Green,
the guy that you're counting on, the guy at some
point we've all talked about that'd be a good first
move to pay a guy like that. Boy. That guy's
been one of the worst hitters in baseball for a
while now, and that's pretty remarkable. Well, he strikes out
a lot, a lot. What his ops, he's going to
set a Robdeer record for strikeout. I think since the
(13:53):
beginning of July he's batting under two hundred. Well, he's
still batt in two sixty nine. His average is still
two sixty nine. It's not great, it's not great. But
are you I mean currently right now, so you're saying,
don't even like thinking about re signing, and what's no, no, no, no,
I I again, I mean what he's done in the
field too, in some of these games. I get it.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
He's struggling at the plate, tremendously right now. But you
still he's still finish the season the way he's going
right now. If the season finishes out that way, I
can understand talking after the season and maybe, like you said,
first round loss in the playoffs something like that.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
I'm just saying that if that guy's, if that guy's,
you're your best hitter and probably would have been. Ry
Carpenter is the best hitter.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
I think Kerry Carpenter is the MVP of his team. Okay,
I just think the way that guy when he's in
the line I don't understand when AJ doesn't put him
into lineup sometimes because of the the opposing pitcher. I
just would I would play carry Carpenter every single night.
I think he's the heart and soul of our team
especially you know, so what if you so the Phillies
gave up so Duran when the Phillies grab him from
(14:54):
from from Minnesota, they give up two top hundred prospects,
and in baseball like two really, so would you have
rather the Tigers did something like that and lost a
couple of their top four prospects overall? Which ones I
don't know, I mean, you picked any any man? How
(15:15):
many of the tigers having that. Let me see how
many of the tigers having the top hundred. Hold on,
let's see, give me some hope. I am the passenger
free ubers and I ride.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
And ride, all right, So it's uh McGonagall, Clark, Rainer,
those the only hold on one sec. Hold on, hold on,
hold on. This is I see the stars come out
of the sky. Yeah, the bride and the hollow sky.
(15:58):
The internet sucks, so okay, so they have four Now
they have six in the top hundred, six in the
top hundred. So I don't know how they would have gone.
They would have gone. They have six in the top hundred. Yeah,
you give up two of those guys. I mean, not
the top guys, but I mean I could be otherwise.
(16:22):
Of the lower two years, I think they have five
in the top hundred. I'm sorry, right right, Like I
fucked the internet. This is the Internet ship. I'm sorry
when I when I Google that that should be a
fastest thing. If it's not. Like my wife works in
this stuff all the time. I do too, Like se
O is not that hard. Not that hard, people, If
you can't do better SEO than that. So with a
Google search, I get exactly what I want in the
moment I need it. You are not doing There are
(16:42):
a lot of people working in MLB, working in MLB
Prospect Report who don't know how to freaking do their jobs.
Well I'm sorry, Okay, continue. Have you ever tried AI? Yeah? Yeah,
the A I think give me the wrong thing. AI
is so freaking average. Still we'll get there, but it's average. Still,
this is average.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
To your question, yeah, I think I would have given
up two guys, you know, not named Max Clark, mccognagal right,
is how you say mccognigo Goya. But anyway, yeah, those
two guys I mean, but those are the two guys
I really know that. I don't sit there and watch
double A, triple A baseball. I trust the prospect guys
that follow that stuff. I follow on Twitter and see
what they say. But I mean, but Wood, Minnesota trade
(17:22):
a guy like that, and you want to see him
in the division. Traded ten guys, right, they traded eleven guys.
But you have to be excited about the way Morton
looked the other day. I mean, it was it was
a terrible ending to that game. But the way that
Morton pitched it does give you especially against that Phillies lineup.
If you would have done that against Minnesota last night,
I'd have been like, all right, Minnesota's asked that they
had a fire sale. But he did it against the
(17:43):
Philadelphia Phillies team, which is pretty intimidating lineup in their house.
So I think that Charlie Morton thing kind of looks
like it's a smart move so far.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
Yeah, and the Finnegan trade looks pretty good too.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
But I'm just saying, but as far as you're saying,
looking at other teams and looking at the trades other
teams have made, when we trust Scott Harris a little bit,
it looks decent so far. And then at the end
of the season, I think we could have a conversation
of where he might have missed here. I mean, I
can understand that you're in a situation like the Tigers
are in. You want them just to grab guys that
you want. But I don't know if Scott Harris is
(18:16):
coming through with some of these guys. You have to
just let him cook a little bit.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
I guess. All right, So I have an MSU football tape.
Hell yeah, let's crush the tape. Let's crush the tape.
Go back to this tab. Let me watch this tape here. Yeah,
so today Joe Rossi was available for interviews a few
Michigan Sate defensive players. The thing that just stood out,
(18:39):
and I'll talk about the defense here in a second,
but the thing that's becoming more and more interesting is
the receiver combination or conversation. I should say. In twenty
twenty one, one of the first ways that everybody knew
Kenneth Walker might be a difference maker was I believe
it was Xavier Henderson, but somebody on that defense said,
(19:02):
either this guy is really good or we're freaking horrible
because nobody can tackle him, like you realize it in practice,
like there's something different here. And when I asked Rossy
sort of in those terms today, he started talking immediately
about the receiver group, like who on offense could you?
He just talked about the speed, the difference, the upgrade
in that room. You ask other defensive players, they talk
(19:26):
about being excited to see what that group does, like
I think for the first time in a while. And
obviously Aiden Childs is a big part of this. He
can be somebody who elevates them. He can be somebody
who's different than the opposing quarterback. And today somebody said
he hadn't thrown a pick yet in practice, which may
say something about the defense may be great for Chiles
somewhere in the middle, whatever it is. But I think
(19:48):
that receiver group has a chance because it's more than
one guy. It's more than Nick marsh now and the
amount of speed and versatility. There to be a group
that is better than the opposing group, that's better one
of the opposing defensive backs, that gives them, that elevates
them in a lot of games, it becomes a problem,
that becomes a difficult scout that wins you games or
(20:10):
gives you a chance to win games where maybe you
don't have advantages of other places. Because that's what Michigan
State really didn't have last year. Beyond being having disadvantages
at certain places, especially as they got beat up, but
not being able to get to the quarterback on defense,
the offensive line not being very good, you got to
turnover pro quarterback. There are a lot of disadvantages last year.
They also didn't have enough advantages like you saw moments
(20:32):
when you see like at Maryland, you know before the
world was really on in Nick marsh what they could
do Childs to march right. You see moments like that,
but they did not have enough advantages, were enough games.
And yeah, in the Iowa game they were able to win,
and a lot of guys played well. But you need
difference makers, you need position groups that are problems for
other teams. They need the offensive line to be better,
(20:53):
they need Aiden Childs to be better, and maybe those
guys will be guys who elevate them and and the
offensive line obviously is critical to that. I do think
the way you hear unprompted because it wasn't like I said, hey, Joe,
what do you think about the receivers? It was more like,
you know, it was talking about Sorry, yeah, there's a
bad media anyway, I fix that one on the post
(21:19):
point being he brought it up and was just talking
about the weapons they have and how different it is
and how hard they are to stop, and and and
a couple of the other players just are really intrigued
to see that group go against other defenses. And I
think that's the most promising thing coming out of this
this fault camp, that if those guys are healthy, that
(21:40):
they may have a unit that helps them separate in
a season with at least from AFAR before the season,
with a lot of toss up games. I mean, there
are a lot of teams you just don't know what
they're going to be. Nebraska on the road looks tough.
A lot of people think they're gonna win more than
eight games, Iowa, you know, certainly our friends got document
thought they were going to win more than more than
(22:00):
eight games. Usc what are they going to be? Ucla,
what are they get? A lot of interesting games? Boston College.
And when you've got a season with a lot of
those opponents and not Ohio State and not Oregon, your
season is going to be defined by how you do.
And some of those teams will be better and worse
than you expect, and some of that will help determine it,
but a lot of the season is going to be
(22:22):
determined whether Michigan State has guys who can be problems
for other teams. You know, when they had that great
year in twenty one, twenty twenty one, and just Kenneth Walker,
it was those receivers like Jalen Naylor and Jaden Reid
and when they were all clicking before Naylor got hurt
in those first eight games, and they were a problem
for people. They were a problem at Miami, and they
(22:43):
were a problem at Rutgers, and there were a problems
against Michigan, and everybody else was good enough. And so
what they really need is if that group can be
the problem. And again, you know, seeing is believing, and
it's a program that I think is needs to earn
it a little bit, needs to earn the faith. But
(23:04):
I think that is a group to watch. I think
people are now curious, and I think everything we're hearing
about that unit only feeds that curiosity. Pound the bushes.
Let's pound some bushes. Yeah, all right, that's it. Do
you have any other takes? Absolutely not? All right, well
let's go I have let us let us amazing. Yeah,
let's dig into the I sent you some new list
(23:25):
updated listeners. Catch you all right, right, let's thumbs up
in the text I saw you all Yeah, let's dig
into these these listener takes? All right?
Speaker 1 (23:34):
Spartan eighteen seven seven zero first number one. After seeing
Chiles throw a perfect bomb, MSU will have a better
record than Michigan at the end of the season. And
two people expecting Chris Ilich to spend money in free
agency is like expecting Graham to pass up a red
velvet groovy donut.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
I hope it's not that dire, because I'm not passing
up that groovy don't. So what he's referring to with
Aiden Chiles is Michigan State put out a like clip
of a long, long, deep deep pass on social media.
And I do find it interesting what MSU chooses to
(24:10):
put out there, because you create hype when you do that,
and you know, I don't think there's nothing wrong with
creating some hype if you can low up to it.
I think you've got to be careful of that stuff.
But they're obviously becoming more and more comfortable with Childs.
They want to create more and more buzz. And that
was it was an impressive throw. But never has there
(24:31):
been a question about his arm. I don't think anybody
you know, and I think it was Omari Kelly was
in the other end of that, a guy that I
think is going to be the number two for them
receiver with Nick Marsh. I think that the thing that's
it will be interesting to see if what because I
don't think we really even know based on last year
(24:53):
what a guy like Aiden Childs would be if he
had a great receiving corps at the college level and
a competent offensive line. Even last year's Aiden Chiles might
be thought of completely different. His season might have gone
completely different. So if he's grown to some degree and
those things are improved, then he might have a special quarterback.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
Jared next, I would be way more excited to see
Aiden Chiles sacked by MSU's defense in practice highlights than
him throwing touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
Well, I think this is this is the issue, right.
I mean, it's like if the defense the defense I'm
writing about this today, the defense is it is the question,
and it's the perceived weakness, and I think it earned
that by its inability to get to the quarterback. It's
lack of depth a year ago. And they think they've
corrected some of that. Certainly depth, I think, and they
(25:44):
probably have corrected that. But you're right, I think there's
real fear there and they may need that receiver group
and they may need Chiles to be great. If the
defense isn't the one thing I'll say about Joe Rossi
on one thing, I say, Hey, when people say the one,
I'll say this one thing. I'll say, what the thing
about Joe Rossie is he is a proven coordinator. I
think he's a good coordinator, I think, and so it
(26:09):
will be interesting to see. I mean, they went out
and got added some guys, especially on the edge. Their
linebacker room I think is going to be pretty good.
We'll see what they are in the secondary. They went
out and tried to address the issues with him in
place as he saw a fit that they needed. Like
a year ago when there when the transfer portal was
who they acquired is like recruiting out of a fire
(26:31):
hose with a staff that really didn't know exactly what
they needed. He now knows what they need to be competitive.
And so part of being a good coordinator in this
day and age is not just how you adjust on
game day. It's not just scheming it up. It's not
just player development whatever. It's recruiting, and it's recruiting year
to year through the portal. So we'll see if and
but that's a relatively new area, so we'll see where
(26:52):
they are in that. But yeah, I mean, I totally
get Jared's assertion here.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
Dominic Next number one Sunday was Bowser's birthday. Birthday, Bowser
and Couch actually gave him a love react on Facebook,
as opposed to his traditional lazy ass like that he does.
Speaker 2 (27:09):
Uh, thanks for your hard work, couch.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
Next Halo sport is on me choch two forty milligrams
kicking in, So I forget my take.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
Next take.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
But I presume I had something to do with a
certain Waring prostitute and her hot yoga instructor Samuel.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
We assume yeah yeah at this point, Dominic, that's dang, dude. Yeah,
the hot yoga teacher got into Samuel taking straight.
Speaker 1 (27:32):
Yeah, you and Tom Brady got screwed over. Maybe mebe
number one for a person who touts the benefits of routine.
This podcast is pretty unpredictable.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
It really is. It's stupid.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
Two bands do not need opening acts. I paid for
the headliner and don't need a one and a half
hours of whatever the new sound is.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
Where are you on opening acts? If you go to
see a band, do you want an opening act or not?
Speaker 1 (27:56):
I'll take one because it gives me like a buffer
to get in and not think I have to just
rush and think the concerts are going to start at
another time.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
I guess I don't I like to I've actually.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
Like new bands that you don't don't know, and you
catch on to some of their music you kind of
dig I've done it.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
I've done it at a couple of shows. That's the
one thing I've always heard about Springsteen concerts. There's no opener,
and it just goes straight to me. He plays for
like three and a half hours, and when the very
early on when I think he did have openers, from
what I've heard, like people just chanted Bruce the whole
time over the over n so nobody didn't work.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
You really want to open for Bruce Springsteen anyway? I mean, Jesus,
that would be brutal.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
Yeah, I mean there have been other I mean I
think Billy Joel for a while I had openers and
other things. Some people Billy Joel. When we t and
I went to Vegas to see Billy Joel, he sting
was his opener. Well that's that's like, yeah, yeah, that's yeah.
It's usually two legends like, yeah, that's that's a really
really good opener. Yeah. I think it depends on and
it depends on you know. I've been to concerts where
I preferred the opening act. I went to see. I
(28:56):
went with a young woman that I was, uh, you know,
fancied a little bit back in the day, and college
went to a country music concert in the County Stadium
parking lot in Milwaukee, the old County Stadium parking lot.
And this is like, Neil McCoy was the headliner, and
I didn't care at all about Neil McCoy, was just
getting into country music. But you know who was the
(29:16):
second person to lead into him, Keith Urban, who's become
a much bigger deal. And then Darrel Worley was the opener.
But those two were a lot better than Neil McCoy.
So sometimes it depends how much you and why you're
there in those things. And by the way, that was
a story almost worth telling, but told anyway, presented by
our friends at Midtown Brewing Company, an awesome place for
any occasion at date night, a drink after work the
(29:38):
American Stout, my absolute favorite beer in the world, at
Midtown Brewing Company in downtown Lansing, full garage.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Next whose fault was the schedule snafu couch minus twenty
five hundred or the roube at plus fifteen hundred.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
Yeah, I take the blame for this because Jason asked,
can we go early and I said, yes, I forgot
about everyone. It was on me.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
Yeah, yeah, no big deal. CHICONI Number one. We are
approaching do on a freshly mode lawn season. Men appreciate this,
Dads appreciate this more. Jason, you may have an offspring
out there, so if you appreciate this. To Graham, would
you streak at an MSU home game for a million
dollars two hundred k. You'll get tackled and sent to
(30:20):
jail for six hours, but the LSJ less you keep
your job because they like your boldness.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
And three hot take.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
MSU goes eight and four with a win over Michigan
and Penn State, but drops a silly one to Minnesota.
We have two one thousand yard receivers and Chiles Boosts's
NFL looks a.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Couple of things like silly one in Minnesota. Minnesota is
one of about four teams with an over seven and
a half over underwin season win total on Michigan State's roster,
and that they're playing on the road. Like I wrote
that boat, that's what I'm saying. Yeah, I'm not saying
it's not gonna be a silly one. That's gonna be
a tough game. All right, so let's go to this
number two. This is the this is the one to
(30:58):
get into here. We talked to about the other day
how much it would how much it would cost each
of us, how much we would need to be the
spokesperson for a rectile dysfunction medication. Yeah, right, and I
said ten grand. I would do it. I mean, I'm
just not that embarrassed. I would. I would, you know,
especially if I have a nice jingle. The question is now.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
Still had questions, but you know, yeah, you'd end up
taking it if you see ten grand on the table.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
For that, you do it to streak at Spartan Stadium,
so your button naked in front of seventy five thousand
people might even make TV yell though they turned that away.
Shame in front of your family, I mean people know
us in this community. There wouldn't be cell phones on
Oh my god, yeah, brutal bear naked streaking. What would
(31:39):
it take? Would you do it for a million? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (31:41):
Me too, absolutely? A million dollars. You can go you
can go away.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
Yeah, I mean it's not like I always say my
price to be bought. So if I'm going to write
a story about you, that's really damning, and you're like,
I cannot let that run. I either need to murder
Gramm or buy him. Jesus one pul story about it.
One point eight million would do it because I can
retire interest in all this and invest one point eight million.
I'm done. I walk away from journalism. I can be
bought a million though, to streak. Yeah, be an interesting story,
(32:10):
and the j keep your job. I don't know if
they would. They would not. Well that's part of the court,
you know, Okay, Yeah, million bucks two hundred k. I
don't think I would of a two hundred k because
this is a lot of shame again with it on
the table, I don't think I do it. Would you
would streak for two hundred k? It's fart you probably would. Yeah,
I think I would. Yeah, what do I What do
I care? A married guy have a small mule. I
(32:32):
mean what you laugh at all you want? I don't.
Speaker 1 (32:34):
I mean like you still can't. I'm just saying when
you stack that two hundred k on that table in
front of you and stare at it like all right,
I guess I gotta do it. You know, a million
and I get to keep my job at the LSJ.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
I do it. I do it for a million. Yep,
there's no question. There you go.
Speaker 1 (32:48):
He can be bought. Uh, Kurt was Newsky. Next Jason Smart,
I'm stupid. He's right, I'm wrong. The Tigers bought band
aids and they needed tourniquets.
Speaker 2 (32:59):
Wow, they can't hit.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
And bonus, the nc DOUBLEA has to rule on the
Michigan scandal this week. Right cannot listen to or read
articles from Michigan experts stating that nothing will occur.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
I think it'll happen this month. I mean when you
start to look at timelines from when you know it
was what June sixth and seventh that they welcome to
the Blue Wall, think you know, just based on precedent,
that it's likely to happen this month. But shit, I
mean it's taken forever already. I mean, it's hard to
trust anything. I would think it happens this month. You're
not stupid, Kurt? What did I say to you? I'm sorry?
(33:33):
Rich Seerian Next number one.
Speaker 1 (33:35):
The longer the NCAA waits to announce their decision on
the cheaters, the less likely likely that something serious is
going to happen, thus providing the NC DOUBLEA is irrelevant
as a rule enforcer of any kind, and to not
sure what you guys have against Will Tieman. He makes
me laugh every time I hear him, adds lots of
energy to his broadcasts, kind of like Dicky V but
(33:56):
less annoying for me. All Right, three Great likes to
ignore my questions because I like to ask the hard
questions that reporters like to avoid. Yellow journalism is the
only good journalism. Just kidding, Graham, love your stuff and
both of you guys are great on this spot.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
Appreciate you rich. I have nothing against Will team, and
I like Will a ton personally.
Speaker 1 (34:19):
And the only issue I have with Will team is
when I have to in the five times I have
to listen to the Michigan State basketball game on the radio,
I have no idea what the fuck is going on.
So that's the only thing I have with Will Team.
And he sounds like a great, very nice guy. I
think he's been hanging out of this job for way
too long and should pass it off to someone else,
but I don't. Yeah, I got nothing against any I
(34:40):
have nothing against pakapudo Will team, and I'd.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
Like all it whatever. I don't hate anybody anymore. Yeah,
And I don't listen to the broadcast very much. I
just know more people than you rich feel differently, feel
like they don't get enough from half every time you
hear him, and you know, to each their own, I'm
right peasy.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
Biggest contract signed this winner by a player the Tigers
organization will be a Kevin mcgogonagal extension mcgogonagal.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
So they do what they did with Cole Keith where
they signed him early, which I don't hate, you know,
I mean I like that stuff. If they want, those
can turn out to be amazing deals. Amazing deal and
and the thing is in a non salary cap sport
like if this or the NBA, and you were trying
to do that stuff and you know, circumvent the system,
although you wouldn't even be allowed to. It wouldn't be eligible,
but it would be a little more risky, right. You
(35:30):
stack up a couple of those that go wrong and
you're you're you're walking with some dead money a little bit.
But in baseball, it you know you're not spending any
money as it is. If you're if you're, if you're
the Tigers, and a piece he had a bonus.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
Sorry, when society is woke again, Graham will get canceled
for the way he pronounces hugahuk wu.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
It's not that hard sounded out. Yeah, I'm looking forward
to that. He might be cognal and he's he's a sophomore,
so he'll probably be a senior. But when the society
switches back that way, it'll take something off it. Yeah
you ready, hugo ju u j Rbu How do you
say it?
Speaker 1 (36:04):
Drew bo Parker Meadows will be the Tigers best post
All Star pickup.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
Bonus. Detroit will host a parade in the next twelve months. Mhm.
I like the rhythms, by the way, these short yeah
one bonus boom two good ones, good stuff.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
I just don't get the first one of the post a. Yeah,
he's gonna be He's gonna be the guy who becomes
relevant to the team and has a great second half.
All right, So if Detroit has a parade in the
next twelve months, We're not talking about the Thanksgiving Day
parade it's automatic, but has a parade for a champion?
Give me a ranking, let's rank them. Uh, it's still
(36:44):
August July, close enough, July topic. You say most likely,
I mean that Tigers are still in you know, obviously
in first place, top two, and they're gonna be in
the postseason. Lions are, you know, obviously in their window,
and really really good. Hockey is a sport where fucking
if you and I were playing, you know, defense, they
they'd have a chance because everybody has a chance to
(37:04):
get in and half the time that the worst team wins.
I didn't mean it like that, but there the year
that in the NHL, there were two years. Actually I
believe we're all in the Eastern Conference in the first
round of the playoffs, the four bottom seeds one which
just negates the regular season entirely, and so hockey teams
can get hot, and then the Pistons are in a
(37:26):
really woeful conference. On the upswing, there's a there's a
path where you could see them get into the finals.
What are the most like? Who's is the Lions? Most likely?
As much as I want to believe the Tigers could
win a World Series, I think it goes it would
be a I mean, even if even if they get
to the World Series, if they meet a team like
(37:47):
the Philadelphia Phillies or something. I just in a seven
game series. I want to believe, I think really do.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
I think it's it's pretty clearly the Lions then then Tigers,
then Pistons and Red Wings in that order.
Speaker 1 (37:59):
Uh, Tyler, I don't remember a regular season baseball game
ever being as frustrated frustrating as the Tigers game on
Sunday night.
Speaker 2 (38:09):
It was frustrating in the sense that they you know,
you have one inning where you have a real opportunity
and you got a lot of guys on base with
no outs, and then you have a situation where you've
got a pitcher who's couldn't hit them.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
Yeah, it was like on seventy pitches deep into like
the seventh inty or something.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
But it was not frustrating. This and you get these
primetime games against a team that maybe the World Series
favored at this point in Philadelphia certainly playing like it
big time, and they go toe to toe like that.
That sort of entire series did not bother me at all.
In fact, when they were going through their two week
you know, or fifteen game skid for a while and
(38:46):
they dropped like seven or eight games in the standings
for when they had a fifteen game lead, my fear
for the Tigers at that point was that they were
devolving into a team that, yeah, I would win enough
to win the division, could hang on and beat up
on or get enough wins in their own division and
with bad teams, but just couldn't raise their game. It
(39:06):
didn't belong on that stage. And I think that series
showed the Tigers can be competitive in a big time
postseason series. I just don't think they can win right now,
two three in a row of them, but you know,
they could win a series. They could be competitive in
a couple, you know. I think that's where they are.
And I think that series showed that.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
David Cox next Jays Creizo will be starting the starting
running back by week four. Talent alone at running back
is the easiest position to fill on the field. And bonus,
if Chiles takes a leap, which I think you will,
MSU wins ten games.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
Ten games. Well, the thing about Michigan State's schedule, I'm
just gonna pull up am Michuge football schedule because this
is important. I say, unders I look through. So when
you look at Michigan States football schedule, unlike a year ago,
you have this period of time where there Friday and night, sorry,
(40:04):
Saturday night Ohio State, Friday night Oregon, if I got
those in the right, you know, and then on the
road at Oregon, you just knew. There are two games
they're just not going to win. And let's say Penn
State is that game. You know, I don't know. It's
a home game, and they've historically done okay at home
against Penn State. But Penn State's supposed to be as
talented as anybody in the country. So let's let's give
(40:24):
that game is a zero percent chance. Let's just say
that's there. I don't necessarily agree with that is zero,
given that it's James Franklin and who knows by November,
and I don't trust Drew Aller and all that stuff.
But if you look at the rest of their schedule,
there is not a single game on the schedule that
you would say from right now that they have less
than a twenty five thirty percent chance of winning. So
(40:48):
if guys are better than perceived, if the receivers are
really good, Chiles takes a step, but the offensive line's okay,
if the defense hangs in there, like as you go
through it, there are a lot of games that could
lose a Boston College might be better, but it's a
home game at night. They need to win that sort
of game. USC on the road, what will they be?
You know, that's a really inconsistent program with a lot
(41:08):
of brand equity. Nebraska. I think it's gonna be tough
August October fourth, But that team has been yet, that
program has You've been yet to take that next step.
UCLA has not been very good. That's at Michigan State Indiana.
Do we believe in Indiana? Are they going to be
a lot better? Maybe? On the road October eighteenth, Michigan.
Are they going to be playing a true freshman quarterback?
(41:30):
We've seen that rivalry at Spartan Stadium where it looks
like it's going to go supposed to go one way
and it does not. At Minnesota, tough game, I think
on the road a week later. Then it's Penn State
Iowa on the road. Michigan State has had varying success
against Iowa. Not they beat them last year. You know
Iowa's We've seen Iowa. We know Iowa doesn't usually run
(41:51):
away from you. Then Maryland's not supposed to be very
good at the end. What I'm saying with that schedule.
It's just there's so much potential variance week to week
based on injuries, based on who these other teams become,
that there are scenarios where Michigan State overachieves heavily. They
would I think, have to say obviously very healthy. They'd
have to be a bit better than expected, because I
think some of those teams will be. I think they'll
(42:11):
be in a lot of close games late, and I
think the defense is going to have to be able
to make stands. I think ten is even if Childs
is better and expected is probably over the mark. But
you can see where you'd see you'd get eight wins
out of this season if Chiles is a difference maker,
if the receivers are really good, and you can see
where they'd be in a lot of games MCV five
(42:32):
to one to two.
Speaker 1 (42:32):
Next, Notre Dame can help bring fan interest back into
college football by playing its Big ten rivals again. And bonus,
the SEC can't argue strength of schedule when they play
an FCS team the week before their rivalry games and
when any Power four.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
Team they play are neutral site games. Yeah, I mean
the SEC is it's I have huge issues with the SEC.
I have Hugess, Kurt SIGNITTI, I have huge issues. I
was talking about this today with Jim Conferoni, who people
think I don't like and don't talk to, But I
like Jim, and we were chatting today about the idea
that in eighty seven I was little, so I only
(43:07):
sort of remember this, but Michigan State went goes to
the Rose Bowl, has this amazing year where in the
regular season they went eight to and one and hold on,
I'm going to make sure that it's corrects guy, Okay.
(43:31):
So that season they open at home with USC and win.
Then they play at Notre Dame and lose big. They
lose Florida State at home big. But they played in
the non conference and around there they were playing Miami
Florida and other things too. They played USC, Notre Dame,
Florida State. That was their non conference schedule, and an eleven.
(43:53):
I mean think what that meant, and that they went
eight to and one. They tied Illinois and it was
the only game they tied season on the day my
wife was born. And that sounded kind of creepy. Didn
I didn't mean that. That sound weird. You gave out
our birthday. I'll leave it alone, Leave it alone, fix
that post. Anyway, point being eight two and one was
(44:17):
a remarkable fun season, Like that season brought so much
fun for people in enjoyment, Like we should get to
a place in college football where that's encouraged. We're eight
two and one, which would get you to the playoff
today is something that people enjoy appreciate, and that those matchups.
I'm not saying you gotta play you know, the equivalent
(44:38):
of USC, which is non league play, but USC, Notre Dame,
Florida State all in the non conference. But those matchups
have to be encouraged, and the system needs to be
designed around encouraging those matchups. I would love Notre Dame
to play more of it's old Big ten and Midwest rivals.
But I just don't think it's.
Speaker 1 (44:56):
By the way, who said that you had a beef
with comp like you made it sound like every but
he was talking.
Speaker 2 (45:00):
Wouldn't guys show you just thought about that. We don't
have comp on ors. I forget what it was. Maybe
I oh, so it was one person. Yeah, I made
something up there. I like, so, is he coming on?
We could have compon sometimes? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (45:12):
I mean, you guys are friends now come yeah, come on, Lions.
Reply guy number one. I would be willing to give
up multiple first rounders to get Micah Parsons. I know
the Lions have to pay Hutch and blah blah, but
the Lions with Parson is a home run swing that
wouldn't be seen as stupid even in hindsight if it
didn't work out. One super Bowl is all we need
(45:34):
and let the rest of the chips fall wherever.
Speaker 2 (45:37):
And two.
Speaker 1 (45:38):
Getting older as a fan sucks because as a kid,
I would have been able to believe the Tigers team
could win it all and would have only needed surface
level stats such as overall record to make my justification.
As an adult fan, it's hard to bring myself to
believe fully in this team now.
Speaker 2 (45:54):
Being a kid's the best. You jump on and off bandwagons,
you love teams you take is hard, but you yeah, no,
it's you don't have as much logic about things. The
same thing still happens to me. Yeah, it's a great
part about being dumb. Well, so let's go the first part.
Whatever they want Micah Parsons, Yeah, yeah, take whatever you need,
(46:15):
whatever draft capital we have. Jerry see the buffoon, Jerry
Jones is, But I mean, what an absolute ass guy
hasn't want a Super Bowl in three decades and he
actually he knows everything. The one problem I have with
this is Michael Parsons to me, in terms of like
defensive players that you'd want in the NFL to be
on your team is top two or three in the NFL. Right.
(46:36):
But the thing that always concerns me about giving up
a lot for one guy in a sport where everybody
gets hurt is I would be inclined to trade for
him and then not blame him until week eleven. That
would be my because he's gonna get hurt and he's
gonna miss the playoffs and games last season. Yeah, and
that's what Jerry Jones is bringing up. But we always
talk about it, like with the Tigers, we talk about,
(46:57):
these guys are homegrown, why don't we just pay them?
And even in the NFL, it's even crazier what Jerry's
doing because you finally draft guys and they turn into
what you expect them to and you sit there and
make them beg for money. It's just insanity. Just paying
Micah Parsons what he's worth. Jerry, you dunce or trading
to us. I just I would love to go nuts
(47:18):
on that, Carl next.
Speaker 1 (47:20):
The NFL is so much more enjoyable week to week
as a fan in the NC Double A the NFL,
the stakes are always seem high, never a bad game
to go to. Live the NC DOUBLEA, you might have
two to three scheduled games a year that gets you
excited when you wake up in the morning, and trending
in the wrong direction.
Speaker 2 (47:37):
I'm with Carl here, I mean, you got to protect these,
You've got to have more. There should be a non
conference game on everybody's schedule every year that they look
forward to and ideally you know at home.
Speaker 1 (47:48):
Well, like Ohio State Texas that game the noon. Why
is that game at New Boxes that you have to
come on? Well, I know that we always say that,
but we really have to change. That's insanity that that
game is.
Speaker 2 (47:59):
On now Fox. And I understand that they branded Big Noon.
How about Big Afternoon? Right? Right? The change you just
work on that, right, it doesn't it's not does it
have to be at noon. There's one game and it's
Ohio State Michigan late in the year that feels big
at noon, and that's because it's colder than freaking dirt
at that time of year late in nobody minds the
(48:20):
noon game. It's dark by four pm at that time
of year. Like noon feels late, right, Like it's not.
It's different, older than dirt. I yeah, no, but I'm
And the other problem is, I mean, level of play
is if you I mean people college football works. College
basketball is partly the same way because people love their
team and so they can deal with level of play.
(48:42):
But if you're just watching a random mid tier Big
ten game most weeks, level quarterback play, it just it's
just not that I mean, it's not that good a product.
It's not that entertaining. It takes forever. There's way too
many commercials. They've got to work on that. There should
be a rule if you don't have six plays in
(49:03):
a possession, you don't go to commercial break.
Speaker 1 (49:06):
There's too many commercials in everything though. I mean these
apps that we pay for and then you go on
the app and then the first minute and a half
you have to sit through ads like I just don't
pisses me off. Yeah, Original Dart Mantonio, MLB, NFL and
NBA do need a trophy to recognize the team who
had the best record in the regular season, like the NHL,
(49:27):
if they do have one, it needs to be mentioned more.
The team of the best record doesn't always win at all,
and terrific regular seasons could be all but forgotten.
Speaker 2 (49:37):
This is really good.
Speaker 1 (49:38):
This is what's like the Mariners that one year where
they won like one hundred and nineteen games. Everybody talks
about that that team all the time. Yeah, no, I
never won.
Speaker 2 (49:47):
I agree. I am for this. I am really for this.
This will be our most entertaining Take the day presented
by our friends edicts. And by the way, if you're
in Lancing or anybody, Infinity has local stores. So if
you have you know, products, you want, equipment questions, if
you want to go in and look at phones, and
(50:08):
they have great mobile offerings and they're able to do
so at a price that's less than Verizon for the
same coverage. You can go to the Infinity store. Like
in Lancing, it's in Eastwood. They're incredibly helpful, they're happy
to happy to work with you too. Originals. Question here
or take here. It's not that you want to lessen
(50:29):
what the you know, what the Super Bowl means, and
what the World Series means, and what the NBA championship means.
I think you just want to add to it that
if you want to really get players to play more
in regular seasons, if you want, you know, to go
to an NBA game in March and not have three
stars sitting out, you know, and if you want the
Major League Baseball season to have meaning throughout. I think
(50:52):
winning the regular season should be something we recognize differently.
And you know, in soccer they have the Supporter Shield,
even which you know is not quite the MLS Cup,
but is at least recognized with a certain degree. I
think it should be. I think losing in the World
Series should be less. Getting the World Series on its
own shouldn't be any more than having the best record
(51:14):
in baseball. Now, winning a World Series should be tops.
But I you know, in the NFL, you know, if
you go through a seventeen game season, you have the
best record. That should be recognized and that should be
something those teams should be remembered separately from the playoffs
a little more, and I would love if we were
able to do that. Izzo for Prez next.
Speaker 1 (51:33):
Has anyone asked any current Hoop Hoops players how they
feel about Trey Holloman leaving and coming around still and
from Travis Maynard. People need to understand that we're in
the players, supporting players making the best decision for themselves.
Era folks asking questions about Trey showing his face, Why
wouldn't he?
Speaker 2 (51:52):
Why would have? Why did Hogard do it? Do it? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (51:55):
The players get it. They're rooting for each other to
get theirs.
Speaker 2 (51:59):
Yeah to is for present's point. Yeah, I mean I've
talked to other guys about and been in conversations and
group conversations about the players talking about Trey Holloman. They
all they're fine with Trey Hallman. They think of it differently.
They don't view him as some trader or anything like that,
you know, and they everybody's got to do what's best
for them. They live in that world, and so they
(52:21):
get it. And I think Trey Holloman over time that
the feelings to him will soften. He'll be remembered differently.
Now he won't be the legend. And now I'm not
talking about legend in terms of like you know, Cassius
Winston player level legend, but what he could have been
if he'd stayed, I think would have been beneficial to
(52:42):
him in certain ways, but the experience he was looking
for was he thought he had to go somewhere else.
And I don't begrudge that, and I don't think other
people should either in this era, and they.
Speaker 1 (52:53):
Trey had the unfortunate you know, the timing of when
he did it right, people are not used to it.
Speaker 2 (52:58):
Yet.
Speaker 1 (52:58):
Five years from now, these things will normalized to where
it won't be a big deal. I can understand after
a season like Trey had and like what he did
against Michigan, for him just to leave like that has
shocked a lot of people.
Speaker 2 (53:09):
And that's all.
Speaker 1 (53:09):
And people are just questioning whether or not, you know,
like when aj Hoguard came back last year, I was like, oh,
damn for real. But you know, because you don't know
the stories behind this.
Speaker 2 (53:18):
He got at least, I would say, double the money
he probably would have got an MSU, a guy who
hadn't been that well paid at MSU relative to some
other guys to this point, you know. And and he
also wanted to be the starting point guard. Now, whether
that happens for him at North Carolina State, we'll see,
but it was not gonna happen at Michigan State. Jeremy
even if he you know my own thought on this,
even if he was pushing Jeremy Fears in terms of
(53:38):
being but it's Jeremy Feer's team in that sense. And
so he knew to be the starting point guard, which
he thinks he needs for his own future, which he
wanted that experience, he had to go somewhere else. He
would add a huge role at Michigan State. And now
you know, and I think they probably still go out
and get a tray for it, you know.
Speaker 1 (53:59):
But I but just because you don't start, doesn't mean
you can't be the second unit.
Speaker 2 (54:04):
And there is an argument too in the in the
in this era that what he did is not all
that different than what Jace Richardson did, who went to
the NBA. He went for a better opportunity, more money
and a chance to advance his career. And that's what
Trey Hallman thought he needed to do.
Speaker 1 (54:21):
Big John Hogg next number one Rubes throwaway hips like
Philip Rivers wife line from Friday was one of the
best I've heard on the pod.
Speaker 2 (54:29):
Just wanted to make sure it was acknowledged. Thanks Big Jehu.
Speaker 1 (54:33):
To driving over the maganaw Bridge is ass and three
j batt should cancel the CMU series and we played
twice at EMU instead. As a huge middle finger, Well
that'll show him additional guest. The snaffoo takes number one.
Couch is in a groovy donut diabetic coma always likely,
that's usually me to ouch, got a couch, got treadmill
(54:54):
lube on his door knob and can't make it out
of the house. And three Dominic couldn't think of takes
in time, so he called his X end to slow
down couch and the roob well played, John, Wait this
X is something else is getting around.
Speaker 2 (55:07):
Yeah, Dominic's extra has become a legend that she has
no idea this she does. There's a podcast somewhere that's
talking about her every single every single show. I he's name, no, no,
not by name, thankfully, I don't know at this point.
We would not include her name something. I hope her
(55:28):
name's Wendy or something. So it goes with whrror you know,
catchy title. So the j bat, the j bat. I
can't play show, but it would be funny if it
was like this could have been you. We're gonna play
two games at e m U, just on the road.
You know, there are lots of cute ideas. I think
(55:49):
the one thing you do is is you I think
if you took one game away and said, you know
that's or you. I think they have to command podium
for five years in a row. Yeah you can't. They're
not gonna do that. Yeah yeah, well hundred grand a pop.
If you know they're not gonna do that, if they've
paid them like big time money, they'd happily. Yeah nope.
Speaker 1 (56:09):
Uh, sparty barb Next number one, the n C Double
A will do nothing to SCUM or CMU as they
are powerless to control anything revenue related. Do j batt
take CMU off the football schedule for the next decade.
And three, the best punishment the NC double A could
give SCUM is to make them pay a fine directly
to all the schools that they beat during the Harbaugh
(56:30):
cheating years. And bonus double the payments to MSU for
desecrating our locker room, tunnel gate and assaulting our coaching staff.
So Barre bars got ideas, barbes a little passes we
should just play EMU. That'll show Uh if Barber's in
the room. These these punishments could be interesting. This is
(56:51):
a I do think it's a big moment for the
n Cuba, not too much with CMU, but with with
what happens with Michigan. Because this has been a long
drawn out process. They clearly have not been thrilled Michigan's
cooperation at all all points. If they really don't do
anything else, it will sort of signal that they don't
have teeth. A lot of people are looking for that,
and I think if they want people to be accountable
(57:13):
and they want people to follow their rules, they probably
need to show they have some teeth. So I'm curious
to see where this goes.
Speaker 2 (57:20):
Jay Riemenschneider next number one, the realist take.
Speaker 1 (57:22):
You ever heard Aidan Child's I was speaking.
Speaker 2 (57:26):
So he's talking to Aiden's child. That got one of
our other listeners, oh Aiden's child? Yeah, I was speaking
just for me.
Speaker 1 (57:33):
Maybe most other Michigan fans would be up in arms
if MSU or Ohio State was in Michigan's place, But me,
as a fifty year old grandfather, couldn't care less about
Ohio State, Michigan State, or in Michigan getting penalties. It's
just sports, not real life. And two, I don't care
about fans, just results, But all your Michigan basketball fan
(57:54):
bashing has been wanting them to smash MSU even more so.
Speaker 2 (57:58):
And I don't care.
Speaker 1 (57:59):
If there's only seventeen fans at Chrysler and they're all
sparty fans. I might even give you a classic Chase
hold a l gram. Still, it's all love, mister Couch.
Speaker 2 (58:10):
I've forgotten about the Chase Winovich hold that l Who
could forget? Who could forget? Like nine to eleven? Who
can't forget the What? And what I know about Jay
is he is a true blue Michigan basketball fan. He's
one of not many who would rather have a great
basketball season for Michigan than football season. So I mean
there are those like and there are people too who
(58:33):
feel like him, Like I talked to Michigan fans all
the time who aren't as delusional as those who are,
you know, a sort of prodding ms U fans or
poking MSU fans on on I talked to the Tigers
game for about two hours. Yeah he's still delusional, yet
he's still yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. There were a lot
of delusional ones, but not all of them are delusional
(58:54):
somewhere go after you. Some don't care as much about
the rivals and some you know, and I think it
depends the culture you grew up in some for some
whether you went to that university. I do find you know,
like you know it was Don Thomas on social media
poking it. I mean, he didn't even go to Michigan.
Like again, there's no gatekeeping in terms of what you
should be a fan of. If you're a fan of
(59:14):
somebody on the couch gate keeps. No, no gatekeeping, no
gatekeeping period. But you should not be if you didn't
go to another school, or you shouldn't make fun of
school's rivals, or you should if you didn't stop with
your rules. I'm just saying, you love what You've been
a Michigan fan forever. You can do whatever, but you
just have no credibility that you don't have. Of course
(59:36):
not the same. Yeah, yeah, anyway, Jesus.
Speaker 1 (59:39):
I like how you're not a gatekeeper, but then you
tell people who do, like, I'm not a root for
this person.
Speaker 2 (59:44):
Your ass, Like I didn't say that. I know you
didn't go to the college. How dare you you're miss
hearing me? You're miss hearing me. It is anybody should
root for whoever they want, and they can be as
passionate for all sorts of reasons. Tottenham hotspurs right, but whatever,
it's the it's the rival stuff, like give it like
an NFL terms, you don't really have somebody. I mean,
I understand the fuck the Bears line and stuff like that,
(01:00:04):
but yeah, but generally you don't.
Speaker 1 (01:00:05):
People don't actually hate the Packers. I hate the Bears, dude,
I do now that we're good. I'm saying like I
was dead inside a couple of years ago.
Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
Graham.
Speaker 1 (01:00:12):
Yeah right, I mean we're talking twenty twenty two. This
is still recent. But that's a iHeart I'm back. That's
a different live again, a different level of venom than
it is in college rivalries, is what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (01:00:22):
Yeah, oh sure.
Speaker 1 (01:00:23):
John Johnson next number one couch saying he didn't know
the Lions were playing was the most cap that's ever cap.
I'm almost I'm almost certain you guys discussed it specifically
a few shows ago prior to the game.
Speaker 2 (01:00:35):
I usually black out by the end of the second hour,
so I'm not sure. Yeah, it's possible I didn't see it.
Didn't too.
Speaker 1 (01:00:42):
Are either of you planning to go to a Tiger's
home playoff game. Have either of you ever been to
an MLB playoff game? Yeah, I went last year against Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (01:00:51):
It sucked. Got our ass kick hopefully, Yeah, Jordan comes
through for you get in the playoffs. If not, I'm
getting Oh I'll go. I'm going to it. Yes, I
will be at another home playoff game. Yeah I've been to.
Maybe not in those seats, but yes, I've been to
at least one. And yeah, it was in like I
want to talk at twenty thirteen and my wife's late
father used to have a relationship with Bud Selig's office
(01:01:16):
and I can't remember who the connection was or whatever,
but we would get like face value, great playoff seats.
He'd get a couple of year. My wife went with
her dad, and then another game I went with my
dad and it was it was unbelievable. It's so good
if he can find a connection or even if you're
thinking of you know, you know, everybody's got limited means
if there's a game, if you're ever going to like
(01:01:36):
spend beyond or put a little away to spend a
little extra to go the experience of a especially at night,
but of a postseason playoff game with great energy is
one of those things you don't forget. And it's right.
Speaker 1 (01:01:50):
We've got two tickets last year, third baseline loor level.
It was one hundred and twenty apiece. I got it early.
I had to join. I had to like join the
tigers whatever to get Tex sent to me. So I
jumped down and I stagged too. You're in the high
I think you can get in the house for like
one hundred or so. Yeah, I believe Andrew Gotier. Next,
the PGA playoffs need a little bit of tweaking. Top
(01:02:11):
golfers can skip the first tournament and have basically no
impact on their standings.
Speaker 2 (01:02:16):
That's right. The FedEx Cup starting this week, So wait,
you can skip the tournament doesn't hurt you.
Speaker 1 (01:02:21):
This this one that they're in in Memphis. Guys like
Scottie Scheffler doesn't need He does not need to play,
like he could take a bye week. But the problem
is is the top twenty guys are sitting there. They're
kind of stable in points to where you could skip
this event if you wanted to. It isn't the FedEx Yeah,
the FedEx Cup is not like the best scenario. It
does need some tweaking, but it still it still gets rating.
(01:02:44):
So I don't know if the PGA will ever change it,
but uh Youoper Carl. Next number one, JJ McCarthy struggling
in Vikings camp shouldn't be a surprise he actually has
to read a defense. His Michigan numbers plummeted in twenty
twenty three when cheating was exposed. Yards per attempt dropped
from ten point six to six point nine and yards
(01:03:04):
per game from two thirty seven to one forty three.
Defenses were better later in the year, but not that
much better, and two December home games are great for
MSU football and the Big ten Southern schools were helped
for years with bowls and playoffs in perfect weather. Let's
see how Southern spread offenses do in six inches of
snow and sleet and cold weather. Division one is and
(01:03:26):
was the only level of football where weather is not
a factor NFL D two, D three high school It
is no love.
Speaker 2 (01:03:33):
I mean, I love the playoffs being on campuses. I
hope they go another round deeper. I don't mind the
semis and finals being at predetermined sites and all that stuff,
but I love, I would really would love the quarterfinals
where everybody, you know, because right now, if you get
a bye, you don't get to get that experience. I
think people people want that, and I think we'll get
there eventually once we tell these bowls just f off.
(01:03:55):
But I it is cool and the energy on those campuses,
and yeah it gets cold sometimes, but the NFL playoffs
played freezing temperatures in January, and you're right, high school
plays and some tough stuff. D one, D two or sorry,
D two, D three FBS, they all, they all do it.
I love that they've made this, made this change. And
JJ McCarthy, yeah, we'll see you know it. We crushing
(01:04:17):
tape on JJ. I am not yet. Yeah, someone sent
me the Caleb Williams missing the thing. It's like, let's
let's play out a little bit. Yeah, maybe some.
Speaker 1 (01:04:27):
Time Kevin from Rochester Hills number one. JJ McCarthy will
be a bus like Manzielle.
Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
Well, there you go. Maybe they're onto some.
Speaker 1 (01:04:33):
Two CBS tribute to Ian Baker. Finch was nauseating and three.
Canada is great at distinguishine. It's stinguished extinguishing a fire.
Canada is great at extinguishing a fire.
Speaker 2 (01:04:46):
Yeah, but is this Ian Baker Finch. Is that what
we're talking Ian Baker? Yeah, it was pretty wild. They
kept zooming like he was.
Speaker 1 (01:04:53):
He had tears flowing, you know, nance did the whole bit,
and it is I mean, come on, the guy's been
working there thirty years. I'm down for a nice tribute
and Ian Baker Finch was awesome at his gig. But
my god, when he starts to cry and they just
zoom in. All I saw on my second TV is
they zoom in close and it's just like the Jordan
crying meme and I'm like, let this poor bastard off
the camera, like, come on, so I see what he's saying.
Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
Why it was nausey? Congrats? Is that all you got?
That's all right? Cool? Thanks man.
Speaker 1 (01:05:21):
Professor Michigan State not leaning into the Greek architecture and
history and their athletic facilities and game experiences is a
big time miss. Where are the columns and statues? Sign
up students to wear movie props from three hundred and
walk around campus. Got to do more than just renovate
the suites.
Speaker 2 (01:05:40):
Yes, it's never been a place that plays into the
Greek architecture, but renovating the stadium is obviously something that
needs to be done to some degree. I still, you know,
I don't live the fan experience in the main concourse
area all that much. I mean I go down there
every time I buy a fifty fifty ticket. I walked through,
(01:06:01):
hang out with the peasants. I go down there sometimes
I get a melting moment, cook sandwich, try and walk
through to that press conference where I go see my
mom once in a while down there, she's on the
other side when she goes to game. Right, Well, I
gotta go. But I and I have nostalgia toward the stadium.
I don't find it is uncomfortable in trough Oh yeah,
I love the troughs. So but I do agree there
(01:06:24):
comforts that could be made. You know, you could, you
could put seatbacks more places, you could. I'm sure there
are lots of things that can be can be upgraded.
And you know it's got that basic concrete East German
look that it's not always great.
Speaker 1 (01:06:39):
Thomas next a repeat of the twenty eighteen or twenty
nineteen MSU football seasons this year would be a successful year.
Context is everything and bonus wanting Spartan Stadium to be
a higher end experience feels contrary to the attitude and
ethos of the program and school as a whole. It's
college football, not a ten hour flay.
Speaker 2 (01:07:02):
Okay, a repeat of twenty eighteen nineteen would be a
successful year for MSU you football. I disagree in this sense.
Those were really frustrating years, but the program was also
at a different place, so maybe it would feel I mean,
just how bad the offense is what I mean. Think
about that twenty eighteen team. That twenty eighteen Michigan State
(01:07:22):
defense was elite, like Rose Bowl season elite. That team
was like seven to seven against Michigan and seven six
against Ohio State late in the third quarter when they
had zero offense. The ability to move the ball at all.
That defense was really great. The twenty nineteen team just
lost its spirit. When I think twenty eighteen, you may
be able to argue if there's some injuries and there
are a seven, you know in team. I think twenty
(01:07:44):
nineteen that team had its spirit broken. And I but
I mean, I see where you're going with where you're
going with this some dude next number one.
Speaker 1 (01:07:55):
I suppose pak Capudo would rather listen to the ESPN
crew slurp the Fhill He's up and down and all
over us versus being forced to listen to Benetti and
Dirk's having a little fun.
Speaker 2 (01:08:05):
Two.
Speaker 1 (01:08:06):
I'd like to share my celebrity encounter with the Great
Judd Heathcote. It was ninety one or ninety two at
the end of the Fall Semester Finals week, and I
was walking home through a completely empty Bruzl Center parking lot.
Jud shuts the door of his green Cadillac and says
to me, you think I can park here? I'm like coach,
I think you can park anywhere you want. He says,
(01:08:27):
you'd be surprised how they treat me around here. Dude
was always on. That is a story we're telling, presented
by our friends at Midtown Brewing Company in downtown Lansing,
an awesome place for any occasion and a group events
to They do these trivia on Tuesday nights. They have
special trivia's on certain Thursdays. If you go to Midtown
Brewing Company on Facebook. I think that's where they update
(01:08:48):
their events and specials and happy hour stuff. Best, like,
you know it's Tuesday today, right, they have It's Taco Tuesday,
two dollars off all day on your choice. Of pork tacos,
fish Tacos, beyond meat Tacos with trivia at seven pm.
Speaker 2 (01:09:02):
Like, that's a Tuesday. Tuesday's in midtown Brown Company, just awesome. Again,
that's in downtown Lancing, four h two South Washington.
Speaker 1 (01:09:09):
By the way, listen to Pat Caputo on the way
home last night. Thought Teres was going to open the
door and roll out of there. It was like that
scene crazy stupid love with Steve Carell. It's so in
a baseball that even she was like, oh my god.
To the point on Jud from some dude like Judd
is jud was just a gym.
Speaker 2 (01:09:26):
Yeah. And you know for me when I first started
covering the team and Jud was still alive, you know,
he was the coach of Michigan State of my youth,
like having and he used to write me these letters
and literally written letters, sometimes typed out, but there were
letters that came in the mail. Jud did not have
a emails. You still have them, I have some of them. Yeah,
and they would you know, he was just he loved
(01:09:47):
you know, he would talk about he loved my work,
and that to me when that's somebody you you know,
you knew that when you're eight nine ten years old,
and that was that was fun stuff. You'd call him
or he'd call you, and you know, he's a landline.
His wife would pick up Darren me. I always help
me out in here, you know. Just he was a
great storyteller and you know, and obviously unbelievable scent of humor.
(01:10:08):
Right now, either you're startering or I'm I'm not cucking
it up because it's a where what So that's you
and Izzo?
Speaker 1 (01:10:15):
Yeah, he ever sent you a lot of different relationship Yeah,
money bag next number one. Flipping through channels last night,
and I came across a local four news doing a
bo Schamp Beckler tribute as their lead into talking about
Michigan Camp. The weird shit wouldn't still be happening for
any other school.
Speaker 2 (01:10:33):
Yeah, Infinity just they put the things on, but they're
not in control of that, so don't take that on.
Speaker 1 (01:10:37):
There, he said, Channel Local or an Infinity two. The
baseball season is way too long. It's not exciting, even
though the Tigers are good. I have no interest in
sitting down for hours watching a regular season game at
this point in the summer. Bonus, listen to a random
couch in the roof show from twenty twenty two a
couple of weeks ago.
Speaker 2 (01:10:56):
Nice.
Speaker 1 (01:10:57):
The MSU football talk was miserable. It was cool to
hear people realize Nightingale's team looked different only four games
into his tenure. It was weird to hear people give
credit to Michigan and not know it'd be tainted.
Speaker 2 (01:11:11):
Yeah, times changed quickly, they do. I was thinking about
this the other day, just like even decade wise, Like
you think about like it's been ten years now since
Michigan State football was like going into the twenty fifteen
season at its peak, you know, recruiting class. Ee. He
was fired up about the twenty sixteen class that was,
you know, committing at that point, the football team was
coming off two amazing years and was about to go
(01:11:31):
to the playoff. And you know all that's happened the
last decade. You think a decade before that people were
dealing with like the middle of John L. Smith in
two thousand and five might have been the year that
was like the players are playing their asses off, the
coaches are sucking it up. Yeah or whatever. He said
that was good and then he was here the Howard
Dean and a decade before that, it's Nick Saban's first
(01:11:55):
year and all the hope decade before that. It's like
perl Let's getting the program going. So much changes in years,
and even a couple of years of a couple of
years twenty twenty two, it seems like eons ago. The
boat Chambuckler stuff is weird. Like at this point, I
I get that he's a legend, I you know, and
and it's a weird thing because there are questions that
will never be answered about what he knew. And it's
(01:12:18):
but I would I would feel a little icky, sort
of slurping on him.
Speaker 1 (01:12:25):
Oh man, I need to get that clip the Brent
Jergison of Southern Maine next, after the fourth example of
a journalism dessert regarding Desert Desert, regarding coverage of Michigan
Football's cheating, I canceled my sub to the Athletic. I'm
going to give Spiro my Gannett money when I canceled
my LSJ and Freep subs, and I pay full price
(01:12:46):
because Graham has made me feel guilty.
Speaker 2 (01:12:48):
I appreciate you. Yeah. Oh you have two accounts too,
of course, so there was some contest. Yeah years ago,
I apologize.
Speaker 1 (01:12:58):
Yeah, well I will do better. Hell, yeah, Spiro's writing
articles and columns. Now I will do better to subscribe.
Matt See, I think I'm officially out of summer takes
except for summer is ass. Get these kids back in
school and let's get football season started already.
Speaker 2 (01:13:14):
People are starting to feel that way and.
Speaker 1 (01:13:15):
It's chill, though, Matt See. I mean, come on, summer
is awesome. Yeah, I'm enjoying this. I need another month.
Speaker 2 (01:13:21):
We're good. Here's here's what I love is. Yeah, I'm
not there yet either, but I can feel it like
all of a sudden, like today out at Michigan State
football practice grid and tape. I'm more and more, you know,
ready for it. I love. One of the things I
love about this job and I love about being a
sports fan and a very cyclical sports fan, is it's
never left where when that next season arrives, I'm not
(01:13:41):
excited about it. I'm always excited about college hoops what
I love, especially obviously the Premier League. Now, I'm always
excited for opening day, but football season every time arrives,
I'm there. I'm ready. I'm excited for the optimism that
you can feel from fans and the sort of the
sense of you know, just a new man. If that
goes away, it'll be really sad. I hope that. Hope
(01:14:01):
that does not. I hope more people. I think most
people feel that.
Speaker 1 (01:14:05):
Scotty Green's al Camino next number one, the Tiger's farm system.
Better pay off to soft Land the trade deadline and
say you feared regretting giving up some of your minor
league talent, you better be right to, like Matt c
running out of summer takes. But here's one. Max Bulla
was suspended because he was part of an illegal gambling
ring with Israeli mob bosses. Oh wait, my bad. That
(01:14:28):
was Gilbert Arenas. Yeah, dude, Gilbert's out of his mind.
It's crazy, Like he's on his Like. I follow him
on Instagram because I do like Gilbert. I loved him
as a player. And he's sitting there like laughing this
off and kind of taunting the feds here. I'm like, dude,
just don't the feds just stop talking. There are a
couple of rules in life.
Speaker 2 (01:14:47):
He's like laughing about shit. I'm like, dude, yeah, number
beat the wrong judge man. Number two is don't talk
the feds.
Speaker 1 (01:14:52):
Oh, couch on fire, Philly's got Duran for basically a song.
Nice job Tigers, and to get beat out by Rowski
really put salt.
Speaker 2 (01:15:01):
In the wound. Yeah, I mean, we'll see you, you know,
as long as Finnegan keeps You're right. I mean, it's
it's but that's Dombrowski's m that's what he does.
Speaker 1 (01:15:10):
He goes in and he gets you a bunch of talent,
and then you're going to be asked for like seven
years if you want to rebuild.
Speaker 2 (01:15:15):
Well, if it will, if your ownership changes and you
stop spending. I mean that's the problem. I mean, if
the Tigers, if Mike Hilich had been fifteen years younger
and still been around, it wouldn't have been this painful rebuilt.
He was spent his way through a to some degree.
Now they would have had to replenish the farm. But yeah, no,
it's there's some there's some endearing. It is a lot
(01:15:35):
of fun to be a fan during the Nebraski ear because,
you know, the while it's fun to enjoy the idea
of prospects coming up, there's nothing better than big trade
dead letting moves and big signings.
Speaker 1 (01:15:46):
I mean, did the Twins fire sale kind of open
your eyes, like, I wonder what Ilich has tied because
the Twins had so many different businesses tied to the Twins,
which kind of sucked them into four hundred and forty
million dollars worth of debt. I don't know anything about
what which has tied into the Tigers, Like why is
it for the cheapness? I can understand the Twins. If
you're all of a sudden having a fire sale because
(01:16:07):
you're in that much debt, it's just crazy. I just
would like to know where we stand in that kind
of thing. But U DMB next number one ex is
toxic because local columnists are too busy summarining in northern
Michigan to ask the hard questions. We are stuck using
spiro Ganda to guide us through these difficult times, to
stop gaslighting us about CMU couch, screw the in state relationships,
(01:16:31):
and the forest apology, which, by the way, kind of
defeats the purpose. And three Jason Strayhorn's kid going to
Michigan and being accused of trying to poach Marsh and
getting fired from Spartan Sports Network and no media follow
up is exactly why I canceled my LSJ subscription what's
the point dude, My apologies. Yeah, Mankarini on this can
(01:16:51):
we have Mancarini writes something?
Speaker 2 (01:16:53):
You know, it's interesting because while I have not a
great deal of interest in the radio story, it's what
fans are interested about. And I'm supposed to meet you
where you are, so I need to do better on that.
You're interested, you like your interests are like soccer, and
that's the problem. I interested will Yeah, yeah, you just
waited for shit you were interested in. Horrible. Yeah, I apologize.
(01:17:18):
I hope to earn your your business back. Dmb Skyler
Dirden Verden.
Speaker 1 (01:17:25):
Next hot take the Club World Cup shouldn't have teams
from Europe, specifically the big five leagues. When those teams win,
it's expected, and when they'd lose, it's because they didn't care. Anyway,
more teams from MLS, LEGA, MX and South America. I
don't question if those teams are trying, and it's a
closer skill level.
Speaker 2 (01:17:43):
Yeah, but if it's going to be called the Club
World Cup, it's got to be everybody and who gets
in and how they get in. I think we can
look at because there's some some bullshit there, but like
you know, putting messy in just because you want them in,
basically putting Chelsea in for a Champions League five years ago.
Like I, you know, you just need to have some
really obvious and understood parameters in terms of how people
(01:18:05):
get in. I like the Club World Cup. I had
a good time with it.
Speaker 1 (01:18:08):
Mister ben Jen with a better explanation of betting value.
Apparently two, you have value when the line moves in
your favor. Oh three, For example, I bet MSU plus
three and a half the line moves to MSU plus
two and a half, either before the game or live now,
I have value some degree.
Speaker 2 (01:18:26):
Yeah, technically, yep, yep.
Speaker 1 (01:18:28):
I mean it also means there was a lot of
money bet on it, so they're kind of moving the
line around.
Speaker 2 (01:18:31):
So unless you lose the bet, then I'm just kidding.
Ah yeah yeah no, but yeah, right. Value is making
the right bet, you know, and you don't always win them.
Good advice, Shep Graham could go either way.
Speaker 1 (01:18:44):
Graham, did you reference betting on the Masters Tennis in
the last show with Harry? I sure, hope so, because
you'd earn a lot of Djen points without play win
or lose, I did? I did, and Rube I don't
even like golf or bet on it. But your background
inspirational music was so fucking awesome. I was ready to
run through a wall outstanding choice.
Speaker 2 (01:19:03):
Hey, welcome. I'm telling you I bet probably three or
I probably bet your bets more often because of your
inspirational background music on the show. That's smart. Yeah, not
the research. I give you no, no, because I go
bat I go back through it and listen again, and
I'm like, oh yeah, because well, I like to do
when I'm listening to anybuddy who's giving me advice on
(01:19:24):
a line to take or a game or a team
or whatever a golfer is, I like to hear their
explanation and their tone and their confidence and your confidence
and your fitck. I was really confident it's in the open.
Speaker 1 (01:19:39):
I was excited about that one because I really have
a lot of confidence a lot of them. By the way,
by the way, you are, we're both djens. I mean
every time you give out bets with your tennis bets,
and you know you have like ninety top ten finished
guys for golf, I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:19:53):
I mean the Master's series are at least one thousand events.
You know, I'm betting some two fifty some out there too.
You know, it's like in Croatia on a Wednesday morning
at five am. You know, it's small amounts, but it's
just to have a little taste because a lot of times,
you know, you can you can find streams of these
matches and you get up and you're doing some work
and you gotta an you can't watch it with a
lot of little action. No, right, well, I would care
(01:20:13):
less about the two fifty in Croatia. Otherwise, Yeah, Richard
Gay Number one.
Speaker 1 (01:20:18):
The problem with recruiting against Ohio State by saying we
have natural grass and you will get injured less is
that OSU can say, look at how many pros we produced,
including all the first rounders. Yes, good point and two.
Auto racing is absolutely a sport. So are golf, gymnastics, cycling, bowling,
and table tennis. They are all physical exertions of skill
(01:20:38):
in competition. The whole ax is not a true sport.
Argument is very tired and extremely lame.
Speaker 2 (01:20:45):
These are both good for Richard to the first one.
With the turf and recruiting, I think it's just part
of the whole thing. And you, I mean, Michigan States
had a lot of NFL guys too. It's a place
that can produce NFL players even when they haven't been great.
And if you're you know, if somebody's knees are going
to last longer, if you're more likely to get to
a second contract. It may not work with every kid,
but I would use it, just like I would use
you know, when I'm recruiting against the SEC, I would
(01:21:07):
use the heat, you know, when I'm recruiting offensive linemen,
and the body odor they're going to have around the
co ed's and you know, I would, I would use
it all. I would use the fact that you know
that the audience doesn't want them to date their daughters,
and it's you know, the Deep South. I would I
would recruit. I would use every tool in my toolbox,
and part of it would be natural grassymnat. Auto racing
(01:21:28):
is a sport I don't think anybody like. Of course,
auto racing takes a ton of skill and it's very
hard and it's exhausting, and gymnastics sports.
Speaker 1 (01:21:36):
I mean, I just turned left all the time in
a car. I can do that, you know how it goes.
Speaker 2 (01:21:40):
I mean, I think the question becomes like cheerleading competitions,
but if their competition, it's a sport. If it's uh,
I mean, even if the sport's entire purpose was once
just to cheer on other people. But I think, you know,
dance competitions, you can argue that's a sport. I mean,
if if it's something that's being judged athletically and it
takes being an athlete, or it truly a competition, you
(01:22:00):
can argue to sport and let people do it. You know, Yeah,
who cares? Go ahead, man Hans Jergen number one.
Speaker 1 (01:22:06):
A hater would say Riley Green has to make spectacular
catches because he's too slow to.
Speaker 2 (01:22:11):
The ball, all right, not the quickest. Yeah, I get
that too.
Speaker 1 (01:22:15):
The Tigers have proven they belong with the best of
their profession.
Speaker 2 (01:22:19):
Graham hasn't.
Speaker 1 (01:22:20):
Three Candice Owens knows the First Lady of France as
a man, but can't tell us who is the fear shooter.
Speaker 2 (01:22:26):
Get the fuck out bonus.
Speaker 1 (01:22:31):
Both my fan Duel and Robinhood accounts took a shit
last week. In response, I've been gorging donuts to make
myself feel better. Fuck you, healthcare industry. Donuts never let
you down.
Speaker 2 (01:22:41):
They really don't. A good groovy donut and never let
you down. It just doesn't it. I mean, it solves
a lot of my issues, at least in the short term.
Jake Hawkins number one.
Speaker 1 (01:22:50):
Thankfully, the Tigers broke even in their last ten games,
but perhaps should have been six and four or seven
to three with missed opportunities Friday and last night to
sweep the Phillies. While the bullpen is questionable, the Beats
have shown to not be clutch even with the runners
in scoring positions. To this, whole internal conflict between the
Big Ten and the SEC as far as football scheduling
(01:23:13):
and college football playoff positions is insane. Here's an idea.
The Big Ten go to eight conference games just like
the SEC. One of the non conference games is against
an SEC team. That's right, Big Ten versus SEC and three.
Just got back from a weekend in the up with friends,
and the effects of the Canadian wildfires really showed. While
(01:23:36):
it wasn't too bad, through all the smoky haze, there
was weren't clear views of the lake, sky or the bridge.
Let's keep pretending that climate change isn't real shit.
Speaker 2 (01:23:46):
Our softball team was canceled last Thursday for air quality,
which is one of the problems with playing in the
city league. Softest things I've ever heard. Yeah, No, I mean,
you know half the league is looking how long away
are we from the world? Well half the league. Ye,
half the league is putting down their cigarettes just to play,
you know. In the other half it's a stone. You
can smell the marijuana for blocks. I mean, I it's
just that's it doesn't for real. That's why it was canceled. Yeah,
(01:24:07):
because it's a citney see the ball, it's a city
ordinance thing, no matter what we sign. No, it's just
like it's the whole you're breathing in, and because the
city requires all you know, city based events to be canceled.
Like it's it's stupid, it's just dumb. It's ridiculous. We're
all adults, we're all killing ourselves anyway. Like I don't
make sense too. To Jake's point on the Big Ten
going eight conference games, you can't go to eight conference
(01:24:30):
games if you've got a freaking eighteen team league where
you got you gotta you gotta play half the league.
You just can't go smaller. I mean the SEC should
be at nine too. It's it's it's ridiculous. Anything else
is a dumb argument. And finally, the jerk guy, I
predect jerk guy.
Speaker 1 (01:24:44):
Other than a few college football programs, there is no
way to tell how a team is going to do
in the preseason. And bonus, Chicago Style pizza is just
a thick tomato soup in a.
Speaker 2 (01:24:54):
Bread bowl, which I really liked though. By the way,
tomato soup like a tomato basil with a bread ball.
That's you're not I'll predect jirt guy. Yeah, Tech Graham couch,
you want a gift card, not dissuading me from Chicago
style pizza with that over a red shirt guy. Nah,
it's really it's really fantastic. We appreciate all of you
for producing our show, Thanks for hanging with us, and
(01:25:16):
wait until Tuesday. I hope we didn't ruin too many Mondays.
We appreciate, of course, our friends at Infinity and Comcast.
Go to Infinity dot com typing your address, look at
the best offer for you. We appreciate Midtown Brewing Company
Trivia on Tuesday night, every Tuesday night, seven o'clock. Great
way to check it out. Date night all the time,
happy hours specials, just a great menu as well. The
(01:25:38):
chef does a great job there. We'll be back. We'll
figure out whether we're doing a Wednesday show or just
coming back later in the week. We will figure that
out for you, but we'll be consistent, more consistent coming up.
I apologize for myself. Good show man, yeah man. Touching
the roup has
