I love the new app, And I know some people
didn't love the old app as much. I think if
you give it another shot, you're really gonna like this.
You can also go down if you're looking for something
to do this weekend, or just taking some baseball or heck,

it might be, go down to FireKeepers Casino off I

and get the in house sports sportsbook experience right here
in Michigan. It's incredible. You don't need to go to Vegas,

It is right here year in Battle Creek offin ninety
four fire Keepers because you know, Jason, how you doing, brother?
Speaker 3 (03:04):
No walks, twelve strikeouts, twelve two whiffs.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Thirty two. That's the fuck? I mean, I felt all
of Fred human It's fucking computer.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
Hey man, geez ruined my whole doning Dobrowski bit here.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Yeah, good, that's crazy.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
That's crazy anyway, that's up. Dude?
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Was that off the Tiger's game the other day against Men? No,
this was a while ago.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
He doesn't do it anymore like newer videos, so I had
to find depressing Tony.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
D Wait did he stop doing his videos?
Speaker 3 (03:35):
I guess so. There was only one, like a month ago.
I don't know if he got a gig or something
to where he could. I mean, it's not like he
does anything crazy anyway.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Yeah, okay, yeah, anyway, you're doing well. That's crazy. Peacock.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Yeah, speaking of Peacock, what's up with Peacock? Charged another
three dollars a month for their shit?
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Hey man, they've been in bed with the LSJ and
this is what we do. Guys. You have to stop
gouging us.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
Man.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
We get it from every angle. It's why people are
gonna have to start pulling back on some of these things.
I mean, I love watching live sports, so they pretty
much have me.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Yes, But if you don't watch sports, you gotta fight
back for me, because I mean, this is I watched
this absolutely ridiculous. They could charge me one hundred dollars
a month I watch the Premier League'm gonna pay. Well,
don't tell them that.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
No, I know, I know we can't be so stupid
and to say, oh, yeah, absolutely, I mean it's true
because I mean, if you looked at my monthly charges,
it's ridiculous. What I you know, just to watch golf,
for god's sakes. Yeah, somebody bets I have to win
just to pay for my golf viewing. It's ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Hulu is going away. Hulu's folding into Disney Plus. So
it's not that's the beginning of it. There's no more Hulu.
Well it will eventually, there won't be right, Yeah, so
it's just Disney. I think I don't know how it's
gonna work. But Yeah, whatever, I don't really give a shit.
Just take my money, give me the sports. Yeah, gouge me.
But every fricking' other month man anyway, it is brutal. Yeah,
(04:47):
I think we're gonna have a good show today. A
lot of good, groovy donut Twitter questions and social media questions.
See there are some, you know it, it's very clear
that people are not happy with me overall, just on
the question. So I'm gonna get that answer to that
and be accountable to that today, and so we'll do that.
A lot of good MSU football and MSU basketball, some
good MSU basketball too, some Tigers, some Lions, Lions injuries.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Is there anything that you could tell, though, tell the
audience today that would make up for it, like something
that you've been withholding or you know what I mean?
Maybe I feel like you're like Trump, you know, you
just kind of divert you know. Yeah, I think what's
your Epstein file?
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Is it? Max Bulla?
Speaker 3 (05:24):
I think it's empty? Who is the fear shooter? Like
announce that, tell everybody that you had you know who
the fear shooter is. You're gonna announce it on Monday Show.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Fewer empty promises and a better attitude. I think that's
my best shot today. That's diversion. Yeah, I like that better.
We'll start there before we get to those, as we
do at the end of every week. What we are
betting this weekend? Presented by our friends at fire Keepers
and the fire Keepers I Casino and sportsbookap Are you
betting anything this weekend? My friend? If he stying Fort
(05:55):
Detroy Spike or a scampling thing, I think, and you
so well.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Of course I have my FedEx Saint Jude Championship picks
that I gave out on Twitter the other night, still
holding strong window. I don't know if he's gonna contend.
He's kind of getting blown away. But I got a
top twenty with Corey Connors and Russ Henley that looks
pretty promising that I gave out on Wednesday. But hey,
the Tigers tonight? Is this a must win? With schoobl
on the mound? I mean, people are panicking. You're talking
(06:24):
about thirty three to one bets for betting Cleveland. You know,
I know it has value. I can understand that because
we're on a verge of a collapse here for the
Central So is tonight a must win for schoobl We
have to get to Freakin Hendricks for the Angels, right,
the Angels stink.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
We have to be able to hit them when he
is on the mound. It's not a must win, but
it kills you if you, I mean, if you don't
can't lose these games. You got to make it up
somewhere else. And I just don't see them doing it
a lot right now. And again, the August schedule we
talked about this the other day, does present chances for that? Yeah,
we got out, Yeah, they that should help that. I
mean if it wasn't for the schedule, if the schedule
was different. I mean twins though, and Cleveland's flawed to
(07:03):
I mean, they're it's not they're hot right now, but
that won't entirely last. It's not like they don't even
have any relievers that you know, don't gamble. Yeah yeah,
So I mean, you know, how are we going to
blow this lead here? So? Are you betting it what
the Tigers tonight? Yeah? Probably? Yeah, I am not so
one thing I'm glad I did. And so I saw
that thirty three to one line out there, and it
(07:25):
wasn't everywhere, but it didn't last because other people jumped
on it quickly, and it was during the game the
other day against the Twins where things were fading, and
I thought, boy, that's a pretty good price. So I
put toryes. You had to tweet it out twenty five
bucks on it for it pays like eight fifty and so.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
You wonder why people don't like you though. That's the thing.
It's like, you know, I have no idea people are
coming at me. But as soon as the Tigers demise,
there's a little brief glimpse of it, you know, you
have to tweet out something a little no, there's just
a little added snarky couch snarkiness on it.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
So there was a there was a moment in there.
Thirty three to one, there was a moment in there.
I'm like, do you just throw row one thousand bucks
on this and then just root against the Tigers and
have like thirty three grand pat No? And I didn't
want to do that, right, I didn't want to do that.
And first of all, that's a lot of money to bet,
and can't brag about it. If you hit it, it would yeah,
and it would out of town. It would ruin, It
would ruin the next month if for a lot of reasons,
(08:14):
it would be awful and I'd have to hide it
for my wife, there'd be awesome. I don't want to
do that stuff, but twenty five bucks, you know, you
you feel like there's a little bit of emotional hedge,
and yet you're still rooting for the Tigers, and so
that's that's all I'm That's all I did. I just
did the emotional hedge. One hundred percent want the Tigers
to fend this off to have what I would love.
(08:36):
I would love this to be the the postseason where
baseball really realize that they're going to have to do something.
Because if this Tigers team, which is in the bottom
ten in baseball the way they've been playing for a
month and worse than that for the last month, but
I think it's probably a bottom half of baseball team overall,
wins the World Series. They they get in because they
(08:57):
have this lead and the rest of the division's flawed,
and they get in and they get hot and they
win it. Then Baseball's whole thing is a mockery, just
like it was when the Cardinals want to know six
But then you have to look at like, why are
you playing six months of a season, what is the point?
And I would love that, but I want the postseason
to reflect the regular season. So I would love somebody
to make a mockery of it completely where it's like
(09:17):
you're sitting there talk about the dog days of summer.
It's like, what's the freaking point? Like, but what's the point?
But it does make for a nice little buffer, especially
for guys like me that are sitting there dying for
football season to start. Well, I think if the season
is long because there's nothing else going on in the
summertime baseball buyer to be more. Baseball should aspire to
be more than just getting us through to football season.
(09:39):
And they've done that to some degree, and the way
they've changed the length of the games and other things,
and it used to.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
My hole, I aspire to be more When you're doing
exactly what I need you to do for me, I mean,
can you change and tweak a little couple of things here? Yeah,
but you're giving me some sort of sports entertainment throughout
the summer.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Don't you can still do that. I'm just saying, try
to be somebody something that people also care about more
in the fall and you're around the uh, now I
for me this weekend. What I am betting is the
England Championship is back champion, not the Champions League. People
get confused with that. The Championship is the division below
the Premier League. Makes his debut this week. Premier League
is next week. Uh Friday afternoon. I switch first Birmingham
(10:16):
City Op. Sorry my ring doorbell is on the phone.
You can hear that. Somebody's at the door. Sorry, turned
up at the door, intruder. You wanted to check. Maybe
it's Spots. Well let's say you might want to check.
It could be spot the door. That's usually it's just
the mail or somebody. Let's see what we got here?
This is good Hoff right here. Oh, it's just a
(10:39):
uh what this person is there? It's like a I
don't know, some sort of street work secret ups guy.
If you know what I'm saying street worker, I don't
mean like prostitute. I mean like street worker, like they're
working on the road. First dominate the anyway, what are
we talking about? Tomorrow? Wrexham at Southampton and the money
(11:00):
is like Southampton is is basically you can get for
minus one twenty you can get at point seventy five
plus point seventy five, meaning if if they win by
I don't want to give all the details, They're gonna
beat Wrexham. Wrexham is good. There's so much money on
Wrexham because of the McIlhaney and Ryan Reynolds and the
(11:22):
love for Wrexham and Rexham has kept being promoted and
it's they're gonna be a good Championship team, mid table
championship team, but they are finally at a level where
the money is gonna They're not gonna have those advantages.
Southampton is a team they got a balloon payment from
being relegated the Premier League. They've got more money than most.
It's a club that's been, you know, up for a
(11:43):
lot of the time. I think Southampton's gonna be one
of the best couple of teams in the Championship. They're
at home. I think they win this game. If they
win this game, you win a small chunk of your stake.
If they win it by two, you win the full thing.
Southampton take Southampton. Maybe the money line is minus one
forty five. That might be the best way to go.
I'm on Southampton's seven thirty am Saturday morning. That is
(12:05):
what penis That is what we are betting this weekend,
presented by our friends at fire Keepers and the fire
Keeper's Eye Casino and sportsbook app. Are you ready, sir,
to dig into these Robber Mack now, by the way,
not mechl Henny. He changed his name because he got
sick of people. Uh screws he pronouncing his name. It's funny.
I can't pronounce back anything, but I can pronounce that. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
It's a good name. Yeah, too bad he's changed it.
You can pronounce it now. He's changing it, all right?
Eric Schultz up? First, of course, with the Central Services
Building being demolished on the east side of Spartan Stadium,
can we expect that facade to get a much needed renovation?
Can we start with, I don't know, the power wash
and a few cans of white paint to.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Cover the rust? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (12:41):
The rust is the key, right? You just do we
need volunteers for this? I hear this a lot of
the rust and the power.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
Washing paint get out there, right, But I'm.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
Saying, like, do we need to volunteers? Do they need
volunteers over there? Yeah, it'll go over there.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
It'll be interesting the stages in which they do things
because you know, obviously you got the season starting, but
you know, you do want to have the stadium look
as good as it can for the season, even if
it's like not it's just phase one and it's that
certain parts of the stadium aren't. But what's the whole?
Is it a union thing where you can't touch a
certain thing like this, touch this fundraising stuff? Are you
(13:14):
talking about just powerwashing a.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
Couple of little things of paint things that you can
see fans that can see from because they go there
every season.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
It'll be interesting to see how quickly this stuff goes.
Another thing that to ask ask Jay Batten in terms
of their timeline and what they want done and what's
really important.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
Eric Chaltz, he keeps saying, you don't believe the strayhorn rumors. Okay, cool,
Can you tell us why he was suddenly let go?
Speaker 1 (13:38):
Then? Like you don't got to get into detail, but
can you please offer an alternative? Now I'm probably gonna
have to do a story on this because this is
like there was a rest part of this. Oh sorry,
go ahead this sentence here?
Speaker 3 (13:49):
Can someone how does a well like former player get
fired in late July after ten plus years of Service.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
No, it's a fair question. I mean they do have
new leadership, new ad so who knows. But that's I
thought this would be a story other people would jump on.
People have talked to you have very little interest in it,
So I will have interest in it, and I will.
I will. Are these the people that were scoffing at
you for looking at Twitter the other night? When was
that happening? I don't know. You said you were looking at.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
Twitter and you were out with the upper nose crowd
and you're there like, oh you still look at Twitter?
Speaker 1 (14:21):
Oh no, No, those were people in news. They would
actually thosere people who work in digital metrics. They would
actually think this story did really well. They're like, why
haven't you done that story yet? So yeah, I will, Yeah,
I will do a story there, or we'll have straight
Horn on here or something. We'll do something to get
your little bit in there. He's a straight Horn interview Dominic.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
Do you think that your ebling snaffo means you get
to just cheat us out of the gambling show? Look, couch,
are you all in or are you half step in us?
Please treat us with the same fucking respect you treat
Matt Man Karini over an American stout three fucking shows
a week period.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
I love that I have.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
Nothing to do with this, like you know, the scheduling conflict.
I like that you get the blame. I don't. I
take it. By the way, great story by Matt Man
Karini on the the Stobers Bar. Yeah, I loved it.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
It's great.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
But I got to say, when I read Matt Man Kreen,
I'm going like, this is what he's doing, Like, why
is he only on like a.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
Story like that?
Speaker 3 (15:17):
He should be right? I think he's yea offer so
much more than a story like that.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
The way the way journalism works these days is you
have to give people the candy and in order to
really dig into the meat, right, because I like that
somebody something has to pay for that. Shouldn't eat it
before you eat meat though it's gonna ruin your appetite.
Well it's a bad analogy, but I suck an analogy.
So you know you put the doughnut before this stick. Yeah,
(15:43):
that's that's I'm just saying. I like Matt I really do.
I'm not saying it's you know, I like Stobers. I
thought it was a great I read it it's on
Merlin and uh, yeah, don't ye, I don't know. I
don't want to let people see it themselves. Yeah for
the first time fresh.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
Uh dominic, what's the appropriate amount of time to wait
when dating a new girl to ask her how many
car key parties she's been to my daddy's grave. I
wouldn't even flinch if I found out my horring ex
ran a train with mel Tucker and Hondo and Hans
Jurgen's basement.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
At this point, Well, it depends, you know, I would.
I would give it at least three dates. At least
three dates first date or ye should get it out there?
Speaker 3 (16:25):
Well, I mean, if you're on the dating apps, you
kind of have to do that talking anyway beforehand.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
I figure you get everything out of the way.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
The first date is like, all right, we got that
shit out of the way, We touch on this and that.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
I forget that you didn't miss the dating apps era,
Like I missed the dating apps era just barely. How
I met my wife?
Speaker 3 (16:40):
I met my wife on Tinder and she gets embarrassed
by that sometimes, but I don't who gives it?
Speaker 1 (16:45):
Well, that's because she's of an age where.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
If I told you I went to a bar and
charmed her pants off. Then you should your mind should
be blown. Like an app where two people who are
attracted to each other then they meet, Like it's not
that weird anymore.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
No, but you know, you know what I'm talking about.
When we were in our twenties, Like if you met
somebody online, there was like a stigma to the right
and yeahoo messenger. Well no, but there was like there
was a couple other things things you could either harmony's
been around twenty years, you know, things like that you
never met anybody on e harmony.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
I never went on e harmony. They asked way too
many questions, there was too much homework to do on
e harmony. I was just like, let's get to it.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
I had one date on e harmony really first in Kalamazoo.
Yeah it was the was it good? It was okay date?
But back then the stigma was so great. What I
realized was like this could never go anywhere because this
couldn't be our origin story. So like that the stigma
was too much to overcome. You just make one up.
(17:39):
Should have if I'd been more mature, if it had
been ten years later or whatever. Who knows that that
might be who i've U was at the.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Bar and then she picked up a napkin and I said, oh, like,
I mean, what is it? What is the difference? Like
you there is It's really hard, especially in the dating game,
just go up to someone who's a stranger minding their
own business at a bar. I found that insane, like insane,
like just have to do that? That is Yeah, thank
god for the apps. That dating apps saved my life.
I think you're not wrong. You're not wrong that it
(18:05):
was immature, but that's the way we thought. It is funny.
It's like, oh, how'd you guys mean like a tender?
Speaker 1 (18:10):
You know there's no well, could you say online and
not Tinder has a certain grinder? I'm sorry, I mean,
what does it matter? Online?
Speaker 3 (18:17):
Bumble aol messenger? It makes you sound like an old
fire who cares?
Speaker 2 (18:22):
What?
Speaker 1 (18:22):
And what's the best most respectable online dating dude?
Speaker 3 (18:26):
As dominic, I have been off the apps for almost
a fucking decade. Here couch, like, what do you mean?
Don't don't you trying to get me in trouble. I
don't see any of that shit anymore. I have no idea.
I'm aware that dating apps still exist Hinge is one
of them, but I know that through Dominic. So okay, yeah,
what are you trying to do to me?
Speaker 1 (18:42):
Couch? You're trying to get me divorced or something. That
is a story we're telling, presented by our friends at
Midtown Brewing Company in downtown Lansing. An awesome place for
a date night this weekend for a group event if
you want to do it trivia on Tuesday nights. Of course,
the American stout is Dominic mentioned.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
The young people even know what car Key parties are, Like,
that's a seventies that was like an eighties, seventies, eighties thing.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Dominic's a child in the seventies, so it's true.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
Uh, Dominic. Do you think Tony D has real life problems? Like?
Speaker 1 (19:10):
Does he have bills? Girl drama? Struggle with demons?
Speaker 3 (19:14):
I'm not judging as Ralph fucked up a fucked up mess,
but like, do you think he rage cries at his
therapist's office over Tyler Hilton's release point and Rose Dumber Royalties.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
I don't know Tony D. That's crazy. I don't know. Oh,
I know of him, I don't know his backstory. Does
it sound like this guy rages tell you what did
we tell you? I'm grateful he lives in an era
where there's that outlet for him. Can you imagine if
this is like nineteen eighty five, You're just telling it
to your friends or your parents or whoever is in
your basement with you, and then nobody.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
If you have friends, right right right? Yeah, friends might
go Jesus Christ like Tony. But man, he needs a therapist.
Love that guy Dominic give couches. Price is one point
six million? What kind of jed go fund me what
I need for met Mancarini to write a weekly investigative
piece on the amount of times my warring nex bang
Samuel for the tapes.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
I don't begrudge Samuel. So my price is one point
eight million, actually, and that's to leave the profession. One
point six went would't quite get it done. Although I'm
getting older, so maybe i'd need less. I don't know. Yeah,
I can't help you make a job as a greeter
or something, you know, yeah what, Oh wait, that's that
guy that got naked. Mencarini is too principled, he he
(20:30):
he will not. I mean, if Menkarini cared about money,
he wouldn't be working at the Lansing State Journal. Right,
that's the take of the day. Yeah, that's true, Dominant couch.
If I get the Rubes to verbally commits or pledge
for a road trip to Kinnick, can he get him
and the misses me and a non horror dates and
press passes so we can watch the game with hot
(20:50):
Scott Doctorman.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
Have you seen old docs? A new Twitter profile picture?
Pretty it's this guy takes no guff. He's likes about
the season. I loved it. Yeah, no, he's all in
now if if you wind up it can though. I
would happily grab a beer with you. It's one of
my favorite. He's talking about getting, you know, like a
press pass.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
Oh, I can't do that.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
That going to start a show, dominating Call it like
Spartan Nations. Yeah yeah, if you call it or something. Yeah, yeah,
just call it sparky something and then you can get
a pass and we'll see there. You don't have to
it doesn't take much. We'll go drive with Rico. Maybe
maybe What is the best MSU football away game on
the schedule for fans?
Speaker 1 (21:32):
This is a good question because it's a good year
and it depends on what you want because like usc
is this year going to l a for a few days.
It'd be nice if that game is a little lighter
later when it's colder here, but that could be fun
going to the coliseum. Nebraska is just an awesome place
to go to a game, and Lincoln's a lot of fun.
It's it's expensive and hard to you know, hotels in
(21:53):
Lincoln on football game days, Like I think Nebraska basketball
is an underrated experience. Great stadium, hotel tells right in
the district, restaurants right there. It's great. But Nebraska is great.
You know Minneapolis is They've got this flight straight out
of Lancing, uh this year where you can fly direct
on Saturday. And although maybe maybe it's coming from Denver,
(22:14):
so it's even easier to get to Minneapolis. But Minneapolis
fun city there for a weekend. They've got Bloomington in October.
Bloomington in the end is like one of my favorite
it's probably my favorite Big ten town. So there's a
it's a really good year. It's really what your cup
of tea is. I like Bloomington a lot. If you've
never done Bloomington on a Saturday in mid October in
(22:35):
college football season, I love that nebrask could be a
great pick too. Next one for maybe maybe.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
Do you have any dues and don'ts for joining in
established fantasy league? Any any advice? Not really, I don't know.
Make sure you have a lineup in even if your
team stinks on ice every week. That's pretty much the
key to keep in any league I've ever ever been in.
Might might to not ruffle any feathers, but I mean,
just really, I mean, if you knows some of the people,
(23:02):
I mean, if people are in the chat talking shit,
I mean, I guess you just jump on in.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
I don't know, I'd start here. If you're going to
do a draft, you know, I don't know if people
still do this, but you get together in the draft night.
It's funy. You get together, like at least as many
people can from the league, sitting around a table, all
doing the draft in person. It's fun to do, right,
It's impossible, but it's fun our age to get people. Yeah,
if you do that. What my recommendation is Groovy Donuts.
Like if you're going to a fantasy football night, you
(23:28):
bring a box at Groovy Donuts. If you're the new
person in the league and you show up with Groovy Donuts.
You'll be remembered, they'll want you in the league. That's
a great start, right, go to Groovy Donuts dot com
place your order today for any gathering, but any time
you want people to like you, or if you just
want to like yourself and you have questions about yourself, right,
give yourself a box of Groovy Donut. You'll feel differently.
Groovy Donuts dot com two locations, Late Lancing Road and
(23:50):
Williamston also Sorry Lake Lancing Road, nast Lancing and also
in Williamston's seven am to one pm Thursday through Sunday.
My other piece of advice would just be saying, you
know how I know it's a good live read, like
you actually get me. I was like waiting for like,
oh my god, he's got like a really good answer
here for how to join a fantasy league, and then
you go boom right into the freaking read once in
a while, blind squirrel. The No, that's the thing, right,
(24:15):
it's being active but not annoying. You don't want to
be the person who's I don't know, I don't know.
How are you how? What's what's annoying in a fantasy
league If you're not two actives.
Speaker 3 (24:26):
I just don't jump into the chat really like, I
make sure I pay attention. If someone offers me a trade,
I'll look at it here and there. But there's some guys,
especially in this one keeper league that I've joined, I've
been in it for a couple of years now, and
the guy there's you know, there's a couple of guys
that just take you just go nuts with it, and
they're messaging people and they're trying out this and that.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
It's like, all right, man, and understand the dynamic, like somebody,
for somebody in that league, this is the most important
thing in their life. And understand that for some people,
this is their moment where they get to be alpha
and be funny and have like, don't change the don't
come in with such a strong personality that it rocks
the book to the point that it changes the vibes,
because that'll make somebody now like you like, just come
(25:04):
in groovy donuts and just you know, set your team,
be active, but let the you know, find your place
and the personality of the lead.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
I would go into the chat and go, hey, what's
your guys blue sky? What's your blue sky at right
away Spartan two three to one is a concerning We
haven't heard about a leading running back for MSU yet.
I have a hard time believing is due to having
multiple talented backs. But it's possible to have a lot
of talented backs, right, Yeah, it is possible.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
I did ask, you know, the running backs coach was
available yesterday and I asked him straight up. He was
talking about young backs who play early and over the
course of time, and he's you know, he's coached a
lot of Doug Martin at Boise State, ashen genty, he's coaching,
He's coaching some other really good guys over time, and
he's talked about just the the moxie those guys have.
And you think about like as Cedric Irv and those
(25:55):
people of that age and what he was like as
a true freshman. You think about a L. J. Scott,
you know, and those guys and guys who come in
and right away it's like, oh, there's a presence about
them as a player, right and usually you can see it.
And I just asked him, I said, do you have
a guy with a box? He said, no, not yet.
Good question. So I'm not saying you should be concerned
(26:16):
or not concerned. It's early. I think this this scrimmage
Saturday is a big scrimmage for the running backs. They
talked about it a lot. There are two scrimmages. I
don't know how much they'd give away in terms of
the depth chart before the opener, but I do believe
as of right now, the depth chart is really undecided.
You know, sometimes you can you can read the room
(26:36):
a little bit, and just I don't think those players know.
I don't think the coaches know right now. I think
they want to see how this plays out in pads.
Do I think there's a Kenneth Walker among them?
Speaker 4 (26:46):
I do not.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
There's some guys of speed, there's some some experience, you know.
When you talk about however, from Sex State, you know,
I'm everybody's intrigued, of course to see Jase Clarizio from
East Lansing and what he looks like. But I you know,
I think the bigger thing is if they have a
(27:08):
competent offensive line, and they have a running game or sorry,
competent offensive line, and the passing game is a dangerous
threat and really good, they'll look good. It's an easier
position if those things happened and like last year. They
just didn't have that in those backs looked pretty pedestrian.
Nick Carter and Karen Lynch Adams would have looked really
good with those sort of things around them.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
Spartan two three to one. Next, what do you make
out of the Kurtang report? Tang improvement or weak shooting
elsewhere or both?
Speaker 1 (27:39):
So this was Rothstein had a report that he talked
to Izzoh and he began it by, you know, saying
something about separating, and people thought it was could be
like a separated shoulder, separated that he separated himself as
the best shooter. He did not say he separated himself
as the best two guard because the things I had heard,
you know, is is that is not necessarily the case
that he would be, that he would be the starter there.
(28:02):
I I don't think it's they thought he was among
the best shooters last year. I mean, in fact, I
don't even know that it's news. I'm pretty sure there
were points last season wheor Izzo said that Kirtang was
the best shooter on the team and it still didn't
get him in the rotation, you know what I mean.
So I don't know what that means in terms of
(28:23):
his I mean, if he does the other things well,
if he defends well enough, if he's you know, if
he has a decent role, then that's good because he
needs If he does those things well enough to be
on the court. I think he will be a really
good shooter. I think he's a natural shooter, but I
don't know that that means he is, you know, going
to be the starting shooting guard.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
He's a bulling in China closet.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
Next one for Spartan two three to one.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
I can't wait for a surprising offseason improvement from a player.
I feel like we haven't had that in a while. Yeah,
I'm trying to think of the next Kilman jump. We
were talking.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
Zavie Tillman, although he could start to see it the
year before h and the day but still richer or
not richer at the end of fresher to.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
Reminisce about that jump, you know, yeah, such a man?
What the what the big neck? Last big jump was that?
You really remember? Where You're like, well, that guy that's Queto.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
Yeah. Cuato was interesting though, because Quato was pretty good
as a freshman in a role and then didn't take
the next step till late. It took him forever. You know,
he's kind of in his own head. He used to
talk about that all the time. He was kind of
a head case in that sense. I'm probably missing somebody.
But uh yeah, if the thing with Kurt Tang that's
different is that he just and and I would say
(29:35):
Jackson Cohler made that jump last year in a lot
of ways. I mean, you think about the year before
the last year. But the thing with Kurt Tang is
because he was on the outside of the rotation, everything
he does this year is going to feel like a
big jump. Some dude, Jason, can you please ask Couch
to read this? All right? Couch read that it was
fun to be not in that voice? No, okay, sorry
(29:56):
it okay, it was fun to be in Vegas with
Trek scooball we came U, we ate some bagels and
watch the documentary about Quicktarry. Fuck, somebody get me? Why
are you coming on bagels? Dude? What he just asked
you to read it? You don't have to be weird.
I know, but I can't pronounce things. Thank you.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
Buggles Vogas question, why does it seem like sands injury?
Jamiir Gibbs over ten and a half rushing TDS is
the biggest lock in the history of the universe.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
Love the show, Thanks some dude. Does seem like a
pretty good bet. I mean sometimes they go to Montgomery
on the goal line. I guess that would be the
the issue.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
Over, Like what's the over plus money and we playing
plus one oh five or what.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
Let's let's say it's even money. If that's what it is,
I mean, that's a pretty good, pretty good play. Obviously
you can be injuries and such, but yeah, you're talking,
you know, less than a you know, in a seventeen
game season, you've got to get one or two every
three games, two touchdowns every three games. Yeah, you'd rather
just bet on his touchdown props per game per game?
(30:57):
Yeah you know. Yeah, I mean, what do you gonna do?
Speaker 3 (30:59):
Put one hundred on it, right, so you're gonna win
one hundred back season. And here's what I love about injuries. Well,
here's what I love about season bets. If season bets
to me are great if you have a compulsion to
bet every week things that you shouldn't be betting every week,
Like if you can have season win season bets that
you give you something, give you some juice on the game,
you ride it out all season. It's amount of money
(31:20):
you can afford to lose. And that's what you're saying
is if you have a degenerate gambling addiction, yes, the
best thing you can do is to bet a lot
of money that takes over a sole season.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
Yes that's your advice. Yes, I like it. So like
this is what I do with like the tennis tournament
in Toronto right now, in Cincinnati and Montreal, and I
do futures bets because if you're betting every I mean
sometimes I'll put a little on a match, but like
if I get some advice somewhere, but like overall, you
find four or five people with good value in a
tournament you put you know, it's like golf, you put
(31:54):
five bucks on them. And if in some of these
tournaments that aren't the majors to the top, people aren't
in it long shot to win all the time. And
so you know, if you put five bucks on and
it pays two hundred if they hit, and all you
got to do is hit, like you know, one one
of those a year and you're good, you know, I
mean that's and I've already have so I mean that's well.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
Betting, not like golf. It has, you know, curtailed some
of my gambling, like as far as baseball and this
slow cut bleeding of baseball two leg three leg parlays
during the summer, brutal.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
Chasing like Tigers Twins unders. As the game goes to seven,
I'm sitting there going like, oh dude, I just want
to make a bet.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
I just them Jones in the bed like, oh dude,
you got that Jamiir Gibbs over ten and a half touchdowns,
Like what are you worried about?
Speaker 1 (32:34):
It's calm down, man, There you go. But they don't
talk about this in Gambler's Anonymous. They sure do.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
Hundred Gambler Butternuts mcgilly cutting next, longtime listener, but first
time commenting. First, Can we get a happy birthday to
some dude celebrating his bad today. He deserves it for
all of his thoughtful takes and burying couch and his
blue wall propaganda. Happy birthday, some did question twenty twenty
seven NFL Draft, Will Nick marsh be a first rounder?
Speaker 1 (33:01):
Appreciate you, Butternuts and some dude. Let's go to Connor
ear good Connor? No, Yeah, we are gonna have mine eye.
I don't know why Connor's coach k but that's all
I had. I forget what he sounds like if birthday
some dude, Yes, absolutely, and he does look Nick marsh
is six foot three with NFL burning, you know, burner,
(33:23):
NFL speed. You know that the question for him will
be the details of consistency if he you know, if
he shows that like he's got all the makings to
be a first rounder. Like the receiver's a vision where
you see a lot of guys who are missing something
become second through fourth rounders. The first rounders are real
special players. Usually they do something extremely well. They've got
to either have size, unbelievable speed. He's got a pretty
(33:44):
good combination of him and so the stage is set
for to me for him to be a first rounder.
But you know, yeah, obviously he's got a you know,
there's no evidence that he'll take a step back or
anything like that. But what he was last year, he
still got to develop to be a first rounder.
Speaker 3 (33:59):
Spartan eighteen seven to seven zero and dang it, Bobby
with the same thought apparently, will MSU end the ten
year drought this season and produce a.
Speaker 1 (34:06):
Consistent O line. I do.
Speaker 3 (34:12):
It's a million dollar question, man, I'm a thirty two
million dollar question.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
I do think they'll be better and noticeably better on
the offensive line. I don't know what that looks like,
and I don't I think, you know, there's probably some
hope and some people out there just hoping that looks
like just a group that just Maul's people, right, and
that's not what it's always going to look like. The idea, though,
I think this is important and a season where you're
playing a lot of we talked about toss up games,
(34:38):
a lot of teams with over unders in the seven
and a half eight, you know, range a lot of
good but not great teams that you're able to win
your share against those teams and be able to run
the ball against those teams. Because if you're gonna beat
those teams, it cannot look at all like last year
or most of the last ten years. So that that's
but I think there's the potential for it. The thing
I believe in this, I do believe in Jim hall
(35:00):
Check is offensive line coach. I think they do have
some talent there. What I don't know is do they
still have a couple of holes that are hard to
overcome on the offensive line, but I think they'll be
I think they've got the chance to be noticeably better.
Spartan eighteen seven seven zero.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
Enjoy the peaceful setting of downtown East Lancing this weekend
because it won't be back till next June. Students are
back coming soon. Yeah, one of my favorite. Enjoy East
Lancing at all this summer really?
Speaker 1 (35:32):
No, yeah, I like to how do you like to
get out there? To say? All those buildings go straight
in the sky. Now, I like to go out there
and sit on the sit it like you know, sushiar
or peanut barrel or someplace right on the strip. What
is it sushiya oh sushia? Yeah? Yeah, okay, on the
week the week that the international students arrive, because you
(35:54):
got your pants on. No, no, it's incredible. It's such
a weird. It's incredible people watching because it's like you.
It's like you, and I don't know if it's still
like this to the same degree, but it's basically like
because ice might be out there deporting people, but it's
it's more like it's like you've been You're in Beijing,
but in East Lancing. Have you ever done this? No,
(36:15):
you should. I just enjoy everybody wherever I go. I
didn't know.
Speaker 3 (36:18):
It's like you make it an event when you see
I like the week people entering a town.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
The foreign deal for the foreign students usually come a
week earlier. And if you just go out there, the
other students aren't there yet, and it's just like being
in Beijing. It's kind of a fun, cool, different, different
type of take that. So you sit on like a
bench and not a sushow. I'm not alone. I'm like,
you know, I take my life than we watch and
people watch. It's it's not me alone, my pants off
(36:44):
on a bench and he's lancing watching Chinese women walk by.
That'd be awful. Oh my god, you're the best. That
would be. That would be the absolute worst. I enjoy
the international flavor of he'st lanting and that is the
week you get it the absolute best. That is a
story where to almost presented by our friends at Midtown
Brewing Company in downtown Lancing, also a good place for
(37:07):
people watching. Sorry I'm crying.
Speaker 3 (37:09):
I'm literally crying, Okay, Ryan Shaw hypothetical Graham, you were
taking in Northwest LP vacation. What's the LP vacation lower
lower penance. I'm supposed to know that. But due to
illegal technicality related to an ongoing investigation of somebody being
pushed down some stairs, you aren't allowed to enter Leland,
(37:29):
New County only art Room and Grand Traverse. What places
do you visit? Oh, like if you're on the lamb. Yeah,
trying to guide out.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
Hold on, I gotta get an I gotta get a
county map up here. One second, Ryan mcdally, I am
the pass. That's crazy. Yeah, So I have not spent
much time and Antrim County. I nearly took a job
(38:02):
in Potoski out of school. I've done that drive and
it's it's a nice drive up thirty one from from
Traverse City. All right, let me get Travers County. Let
me see what we got. Hereties. People have ship to
do couch. I see thee come out of the sky. Yeah,
maybe I'll see if they let me in the interlock
(38:24):
in music camp. You're not even on Leland, New County yet. No,
I know where that is. I've just seen where traversas
to get to.
Speaker 3 (38:32):
Ah.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
Yeah, it's a good question. I I don't know if
I can't go to Northport or Lelandard or Glenarboro. You
know what are you looking up? Though? The counties? I
want to say, I need to see it. What towns
and what county? That's what I need to see. I
don't know, I'd figure it out.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
Wow, Ryan Schaltz Graham, have you noticed that you always
end John L. Smith saying the coaches are screwing it
up with a Howard Dean yell? Were you aware that
never happened? What his voice cracks on? Screwing it up?
And that's it? Is this an interesting case of creating
a false memory.
Speaker 1 (39:05):
It's this is something that happened twenty years ago, and
I've been remembering in a different way, and it happened
around the time of the Howard Dean thing, right, So,
and they're both similar. Yeah, so I sort of I've
sort of combined them at this point. But yes, it
is a false manta.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
Good catch, though, Professor, Do the Tigers make more profit
if they remain a playoff team but never win the
World Series for five years? Or if they go all
in win the series but then suck for four years
as they.
Speaker 1 (39:29):
Rebuild, probably make more profit being good every year and
the sweepack that place right right, that's a great time
to be alive when the Tigers are good, if you're
But the thing is, are when you're doing a rebuild,
are you giving us players to come watch like there's
some hope? And I think we have you know, in
(39:50):
the minor league system, we have guys that are going
to be there because Scott Harris has not traded those guys.
So I don't know if it would be that long
of a rebuild four years, because that's what you don't
want I get into, is the six seven year rebuild
that we were in and we were promised that His point,
his point though, is to win a World Series, you
probably have to give up some of those guys. And
if you went all in, you gave up those guys,
you win it. But then it's like the Cubs and
(40:12):
it falls apart for a little while. Is that worth it?
And I think I think for people it would be
worth it. Now there's the risk in it, and again,
you know, this is a sport that's never fixed. His postseason,
so I mean, you know that you got.
Speaker 3 (40:23):
Bryce Harper going full bro on Manford. If you even
bring up about fucking salary cap apparently.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
Yeah, Jesus, well, I mean I have issues with the
postseason because I don't know what to do. I really don't,
because you can go all in and and then you don't,
you don't get you don't play well.
Speaker 3 (40:38):
At least you're you know what I mean, at least
you're going all in when you have a good team
and you add a couple of guys and you go
for it.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
There's something to that. And maybe we should just all
everybody goes all in and we celebrate the regular season champion,
and we celebrate the division winners, and we should say
fuck the postseason because it's not reminiscent of what baseball comes.
We're not even trying to be good ideas. Yeah, will
you take that out? It's a really bad I'm actually
might take that. That was pretty bad. I won't come
back to the show, terrible Professor.
Speaker 3 (41:03):
If for charity, would you be willing to be the
guest of honor for a roast led by your friends
and family?
Speaker 1 (41:09):
I thought that's what the show was.
Speaker 3 (41:11):
Yeah, I was about to say couch gets roasted every week.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
Yes, for charity, I would do it. Oh god, absolutely,
it would be hilarious. What do you do it? O God, Yeah, yeah,
I get get roast. I don't care.
Speaker 3 (41:23):
D m B and won O girarda next when we
are getting a JA or when are we getting a
J bat column? He's our shiny new toy couch. What
do you want to know from him? Give the people
what they want and they might come back as LSJ subscribers.
And from Tyler Simmons Graham, do you have plans for
an extended sit down interview with either Jonathan Smith prior
(41:45):
to football season?
Speaker 1 (41:46):
Mmm? So Smith? Both are both are in the works,
and I you know, I don't know what you know.
At some point, let's sit down with Smith before the
season too, Yes, and and do a column on him
going into his second year. But Jay Batt, Yeah, they
told me over there and they're working on it. I mean,
he's got a busy schedule and all that stuff, and
(42:06):
it might not just be me, It might be a
few of us. Who knows what it'll be. I mean,
do you need me to call Matt Larson happening here?
Is he not returning your call? No, he's great. No,
we have talked about this very thing, and at some
point it is going to happen and and there will be,
you know, and there are lots of things to know
about his priorities, how he you know, how he sees
(42:27):
you know, structuring, you know, how he sees the role
of collectives, how he sees paying for football, how he
sees does he see cutting sports CMU, what he sees
about that, what he thinks of Connor Stalley. There's a
million things. And the other thing I would tell you
this if there are things that you specifically want to
know DM me because or DM the show, and because
(42:50):
sometimes there might be something I overlooked that you're thinking of,
or at least it's good to know that's on your mind.
I mean a lot. One of the best things about
this show, one of the absolute best things is that
I leave every show with a better sense of what
readers and listeners are thinking and where fans what fans
well for me, that you're who were supposed to serve here.
So if you have things that you want to make
(43:12):
sure are asked of him, uh, DM ME and and
uh not not everything you know, if you if it's
about the Epstein case, I'm probably not gonna probably not
gonna ask but you know, but still DM DM it anyway,
writing right up into my rectum and it was painful.
Maddy B.
Speaker 3 (43:28):
Next, when Graham sits down with Jay Batter Jonathan Smith
in twenty twenty eight, can we ask them if there
can be a clear NIL program for the common fan?
Speaker 1 (43:36):
It still doesn't feel like, Yeah, I'm curious what he
thinks of it and how he thinks it should be organized.
And and you know, Haller was always very standoff is
the wrong word, but he was very down matt see removed,
you know, trying to you know, Arm's length from the
collectives in terms of his public by meddling. And I'm
(44:00):
curious to see if if if bad is the same way.
I don't think he is. I mean, you know, I
I do know that like that at Charitable Giving America,
which has this is SPARTA, you know, after this year,
they've been told athletes or coaches have been told not
to work with him anymore. So like there's obviously a
plan in place, and you know, I'm curious what what
(44:23):
it is. I just I don't want to comment on
what his initiatives are and what he thinks of things,
because I just I just don't know, Matty B.
Speaker 3 (44:30):
Why does it seem like our basketball team ignores center
recruiting after Kohler and Cooper leave. What's your playing Tom?
Your rival seems to care more?
Speaker 1 (44:39):
I promise you the rival doesn't care more. That's not it.
I'm not talking. But it will be interesting because you
obviously have McCulloch. You know, you might be okay power
forward still, but like you, you are going to need bigs.
And if you land one and recruiting as a freshman,
that's great, but it might be when you have to
go on the portal and and and do and and
(45:00):
you know that's obviously a year to year thing, not
an advanced recruiting thing. So but yeah, they'll be thin there.
They'll have to address it for sure.
Speaker 3 (45:08):
Uh blow goop boner, blowgo boner. Next, So you fuck
up Monday the show gets skipped, then pushing it to
skip Wednesday show. Please figure it out, Graham. You do
realize we produce your show without us. You have nothing.
Speaker 1 (45:22):
We know, we know, but you know we didn't want
your Tuesday show to get you know, recruited over so
to speak, with a Wednesday show so quickly. That was it. No,
I'm kidding, yeah, you know, it's it's it's all.
Speaker 3 (45:35):
Fair people would be really disgusted if we did two
shows in a row. Yeah, I can't handle all this
much couch in the room, Jebediah. Will a Detroit GM
ever go all in without heavy pressure from the fan
base and media, or will we all be stuck with
good not great teams that compete but never win it
all forever because we're all just okay with not being bad.
Speaker 1 (45:58):
Well, I do think you're there with Tom Gores, right,
I don't think that's that's a doubt anymore.
Speaker 3 (46:06):
Well, I mean, let's not get too crazy. I mean,
he did pay off money Williams contract. It seems like
he's starting to trust people and leave the team in
the hands of people. But so the key I want
to just leave him alone. I think, no, no, you
get start from Tom.
Speaker 1 (46:17):
The key will be when when some of these contracts
are doing, they figure out what they're gonna have to
do with Jade and Ivy And he needs to play
a year before he figure that out. At some point,
if you're good, things get expensive, right, and so that
and are you willing to pay luxury doing right? Want
to bring people? You know what I mean. I'm just
saying we don't know yet. So that's what we'll have
to watch with him. And then you know, I would
(46:37):
say the Ford family has been at times inept, but
not so much cheap. There's been some cheapness at times.
I shouldn't say that, but yeah, Wood is still employed,
so yeah, there have been some bigger issues there than yeah.
And and I think Brad Holmes you talk about just
a GM. I mean, he's I don't question his willingness
(47:00):
to go all in, you know, I mean.
Speaker 3 (47:03):
Exactly, but like last year when we had the injury
bug and to bring some guys in, and you know,
I understand that we have to trust these you know,
the Harrises and the Brad Holmes is. But I think
another couple of years of we're getting close, we're going
to start running out of patience with we need our people,
our guys, blah blah blah. When you see teams like
philadelph like the Eagles, they bring in these these players
(47:24):
that will help them get over the hump.
Speaker 1 (47:26):
So the question would be, I haven't heard this post
to him yet, and maybe it has been. I just
I don't don't read everything or hear everything. But if
somebody asked him in hindsight, does he wish he'd done it,
because sometimes you think you have enough and it's fine
if you make a mistake, it's fine to admit that.
Like you know, in hindsight, I thought this was the move,
and it really turned out we needed this and I
should have done that.
Speaker 3 (47:45):
But getting your ass handity of by Washington, I'm not
sure who could have helped us in that scenario.
Speaker 1 (47:49):
We just got dominated up and down. But Thomas saw.
Speaker 3 (47:52):
Do you keep your head on straight when staring down
a deadline for a big project or writing.
Speaker 1 (47:57):
Piece, Take a lot of steps to the fridge, a
lot of trips the fridge. I uh yeah, procrastinate.
Speaker 4 (48:02):
No.
Speaker 1 (48:03):
I mean Zion was a big deal because he was
a huge guy and I just broke my chair. The
deadline helps, you know, you just you just you just
do it. You focus in and you grind, you grind,
you go. I said by my typewriter, I grind tape.
Deadline helps, pretty simple. Yeah, you just you just kind
of you just go. That's what I always say. The
thing I always remember when I'm writing is that nobody
(48:25):
has to see this until I want them to see it.
And that sometimes helps you too, when you get a
little stuck or you're not thrilled about your lead. Sometimes
you just just keep going. You know, you're like, I
don't love this. And a lot of times you wind
up because of deadlines turning in the same shitty thing
you started on. But I think that's that's always My
best advice is just remember nobody has to see it
(48:46):
until you're ready for them to see it. And so
if you put someone has you know, or you're gonna
get fired, someone has to see it. If you're really
up against the deadline, yeah you're you're you're kind of
screwed there, but.
Speaker 3 (48:55):
You can't really in your mind go like, well, you know,
no one's gonna see but what I'm saying, it's better
to do that than be stuck.
Speaker 1 (49:00):
And then you don't have enough done, and then you
feel really rushed. And I've written some rush things. One
of the worst things happens is our print deadlines change,
is you wind up with you know, what what you
see in online is very different than what when in print.
There have been columns I've written where it's like, holy crap,
I don't even know what I wrote for print, and
then you have to redo it because it's just such
a such a tight deadline, But yeah, the big thing
(49:21):
is just right and trust that you'll it's I find
it often easier to edit when you've got something or
you change it then then create from a new Thomas.
Speaker 3 (49:33):
Does a Jersey Giant give you too much bang for
your buck to be considered as a new vendor under
the concession stand updates? Well, couldn't you do like a sliver,
like a you know what I mean, like a small
bite of the Jersey Giant where you get it all
a corner piece or something like that. Yeah, I have
it for nineteen dollars. I don't think we do Jersey
(49:54):
Giants till we have groovy donuts and groovy Donuts. Would
love to be in Spartan Stadium to me that you
want to upgrade Spartan state freaking paint, you know, power wash,
whatever you want to do, but begin with groovy donuts
as a vendor, go.
Speaker 1 (50:06):
To more games. Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 3 (50:08):
If I could get a groovy donut and a Jersey
Giant sandwich.
Speaker 1 (50:11):
If there was a groovy donut available on the concourse,
I would be on the concourse every single week getting
a groovy donut.
Speaker 3 (50:16):
I think a lot of people do with the peasants.
Why yeah, I could go down there to get a
fifty Sorry, I gotta go right back up by. This
is not down here for a while. I just got
to go right back. Can I cut the line here? Uh?
Speaker 1 (50:26):
Important things to do? Yeah? Uh, but yeah I would.
I would definitely do that. And until that happens, though,
Groovy Donuts are always available to you every week seven
am to one pm Thursday through Sunday on Lake Lanting
Road and Williamston and also lakeln trow Niese Lanting Lakeland
does not go to Williamson, I don't think uh, And
also in Williamston and go to Groovy Donuts dot com
to place in order today or just swing on by.
(50:46):
I'm telling you every every time I start a Saturday
or a Sunday at Groovy Donuts on a weekend day,
coffee box of donuts, extra donut for myself on the
way home that my wife won't know about. It's just
it's a great way to start a day. That is
a pro tip. By the way, if you get in
a box for you and the family, extra bag for
yourself that nobody ever had, make sure you check yourself
when you get out. Before you get out of the car. Yeah, crumbs.
(51:08):
Crumbs are the giveaway which always forgets that peah. Yeah.
And to make sure you have a you know where
the garbage is in the driveway or whatever. You know,
you can lead bags around and things get obvious. You
gotta have it. You gotta have a plan and of
a plan. But groovy donuts will definitely improve your weekend. Jebediah.
Speaker 3 (51:22):
Next, can you believe that a Lion second round pick
who is off injured in college will miss his entire
second year in the league after barely playing in his
first year due to injury. Still trying to wrap my
head around this shocking occurrence. And for mister ben jen
rub what is Graham's smugness level one to one hundred
on his don't play your cornerbacks until Week nine take?
(51:43):
Since Rakestraw just got perma injured, Graham, do you feel
more satisfied about your take or sad that the Lions
lost a needed quarterback.
Speaker 1 (51:53):
I don't feel good about it. I just feel strongly
about it. I don't look I understand the realities of
it is you can't take you know, ten guys on
a roster of fifty three guys that are paid and
make the playoffs and rest ten guys. I get that,
I understand, but I do think it is possible, and
it would be. It's the sort of thing somebody will
(52:14):
do ten years from I'll oh, what a genius idea,
and I'll be sitting there in the background. They're going
to do it ten years from now. I thought of
this a long time ago, man. But like if you have,
if you've got to vote, if you've got a really
good veteran, it's some position that you don't know that
can hold up for the season, that would be something
to do that with, you know, Or I think a
defensive back, a defensive end, especially those two positions. If
(52:37):
you three, you know, a couple of defensive backs, a
defensive end, and you just say we're coming in week
eleven and we're staying in shape and all that, So
that I would look at trying to do it because
those positions may be an offensive lineman. Can you get
to four on a roster? Positions that usually crush you know?
These are the things I would I would think about
for real.
Speaker 3 (52:55):
To answer your question, mister Benjin, it's not the smugness.
It's the fact that he knows it's stupid and it
will never happen. But this kind of makes his point
for him, So it just will never end right because
it's not you know, you make a point like, right's
a good point, but you're not gonna sit anybody for
ten weeks.
Speaker 1 (53:12):
It's just not possible. It's easy. I just can't imagine
being a defensive back in the NFL and you break
it down, you're like, you know it was his team
or whatever you do, and you break it down, Lion's
on three. You're not gonna be around by the playoffs.
You're not playing for it. You're just playing for yourself.
So you shouldn't even just go into the huddle and
do that. Yeah, I just would find it. The odds
that you're gonna be out if you're a defensive back
in the NFL are like, I don't know seventy percent,
(53:33):
So what I don't know, playing for me, you're never
gonna be in.
Speaker 3 (53:37):
I don't know, mister Benjin. Why is Mustard such a
fucking bitch? The only condiment which, no matter how careful
I am, it gets everywhere, the clothes squirts out from wherever.
Whatever it's on, never happens with ketchup mayo or hot sauce,
et cetera.
Speaker 1 (53:53):
Fuck mustard, you gotta you gotta shake the mustard because
he gets that liquid stuff at the time. Yeah, you
gotta shake the mustard before you like grant.
Speaker 3 (53:59):
My grandma she absolutely hated mustard, but only had it
because I loved it, really she did. But it's not
going to jump out of the bottle and attacker. I
mean what, It's not like it's some great thing. She
had it in there for when I you know what
I mean. I hated the sight of it, though. Yeah,
everybody has the thing. But you know, you know the
how that happens with the mustard. You just it becomes
liquidy at the top, and you shake it the wrong way.
(54:21):
It's more catch up for me where it gets everywhere. Okay,
I can't handle it. I like mustard, Kurt was Newski.
Why can't Detroit professional sports have nice things?
Speaker 1 (54:30):
This is happening everywhere? Just feels like it because everybody
pays attention to the team that's in front of them.
Speaker 3 (54:35):
And it's true, we want to have nice things. We
want to just win a championship. Well, I think that's
the big thing. The Pistons have done it, but even
then they didn't win the second one they should have.
The Tigers didn't win any the Lions haven't won one.
The Red Wing has been a long time now, I think,
and really the red Wings have done soon enough. It
needs to come. It really does need to come from
(54:57):
the Lions or Tigers at some point. And that that happens,
it appeases so much of the fan base and it
just will be saying, I mean, dude, if the Tigers
of the Lions, like I will, I will cry like
Tony Dombrowski, like this is craziness.
Speaker 1 (55:12):
How long we've waited? Uh Kirk was Newski?
Speaker 3 (55:14):
What's taking the nc double A so long to pit
the hammer down on those scumbags in ann Arbor?
Speaker 1 (55:21):
Probably Friday five could happen today. Who knows? Five o'clock
drops wall. So if you're the NCAA, a lot of
times these things happened at five o'clock on a Friday.
Are you doing it at five o'clock on a Friday?
If you're if you're worried it's not gonna be hard
enough or if it's too hard, like what do you what?
What would what do you think? Either way, you just.
Speaker 3 (55:37):
Want it to five o'clock, five o'clock, dump it come
back Monday.
Speaker 1 (55:40):
What are you talking about? Just harbought? I'm sorry what happened? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (55:44):
Uh b a g r e bagger bagger A. Do
you agree that winning seven to ten games a year
and beating Michigan every couple of years makes your coaching
era successful at MSU.
Speaker 1 (55:56):
Yes, especially now, because ten wins get you in the playoff.
Like to me, the change of the playoff, you know,
the twelve teams and eventually more and the ten wins
getting you in. Because think about Michigan State team in
twenty twenty one that was in a New Year's six Powl,
which is not like the equivalent of where the playoff
cut off that they would have been in a playoff.
And so I think the key is if you're getting
(56:17):
in the playoff every you know, three four years something
like that, and you're if you're getting the playoff every
four years, say, and you are in the hunt for
the playoff in in November like two to three out
of four years, which you would be. If you're winning
(56:39):
seven to ten games and you're beating Michigan every other year,
nobody's going to complain there may be they may be
longing for something a little more elite, but there you'll
have your job for a long time, and it would
definitely be a successful era. And I think something that's
happened again since it's been a while since it's been
a decade now since the last real successful era, is
(57:01):
people remember how hard it is and how rare it is,
and so I think it's been long enough that yes,
people want the peak d' antonio era again, but they
just want something a lot better than this. And so
seven to ten wins a year and beating Michigan every
couple of years would feel really good right about now.
Speaker 3 (57:19):
Next one from Bagriy will couch finally admit there's a
blue wall and not dance around the question.
Speaker 1 (57:27):
Welcome to the blue wall. This is not dancing. This
is my take on this. I think like if I
am to say there is a blue wall, I think
what I think of the blue wall and what you
think of the blue wall are different things. I do
not think there's this conspiracy, and that's the difference. Do
I think there is some bias that leaks out? And
(57:48):
in terms of what's covered, do I think that Michigan
gets covered? A little differently than Michigan State. I do,
but the blue wall sounds like, you know, sounds very Silviet,
sounds like what's happening now, you know, in our polarized
government with cable news and you know, you just get
different realities and stuff like that. I don't, I don't.
(58:08):
I don't see it entirely like that. And that's that's
my issue with just straight out saying that.
Speaker 3 (58:16):
All right, Gary Lipka, how does Jason pull up the
appropriate recorded audio on the spur of the moment with
perfect timing?
Speaker 1 (58:22):
Please share your secret? Not talking about this, no, no Toba.
Speaker 3 (58:28):
Keith Graham tell the rub that Jay Batt doesn't have
an accent because affluent people don't have accents. Real question,
when do you think the conferences will have the upper
hand over the networks to set game times before twelve
days before the game? Looking to go see the Spartans
play USC in September, Just wanting to plan.
Speaker 1 (58:46):
A little bit. Yeah, it's it's a pain twelve days.
I mean, that's so. There are certain games that are
on the schedule, and you know, but then there are
a lot of them that are you know, and sometimes
it's six days. They get a couple of those a
year two like, and it's it is a pain. It's
hard to travel. It's hard to know because obviously, especially
if it's a drive or wherever it is, Like, how
(59:07):
you set up a trip for a noon game is
different than how you set up a trip for a
seven to thirty PM game, especially, or it could be
seven thirty local, it could be ten thirty pm. I
don't know it would be that late out there, but
you know, it's it is a pain, and I don't
think that'll change though.
Speaker 3 (59:24):
Uh two big if MSU beats UCLA at home, because
the noon game in East Lansing is a nine am
game for the Bruins, So that's the only reason why
MSU beats them.
Speaker 1 (59:36):
It is brutal for you. I mean, this is the
the disadvantage those teams are at. But this is what
they signed up for that they're going to get. Some
of these teams going east or going west will sometimes
get like a ten to thirty start I think at
some point, but that is a UCLA all have to
come out on Thursday to try to adjust to that
for sure.
Speaker 3 (59:56):
Skyler Verden, what is the proper response to someone in
their twenties who won't stop refer into themselves as old.
Speaker 1 (01:00:03):
Push them down the stairs. Depends who they are in
your life. If because it's a really acidine and an annoying response.
Speaker 3 (01:00:10):
No, it's anyone, it's anybody in their twenties. Okay, it
says they're old. Yeah, shut it, because a couple of
days people believe me old people did it to me
back when I was twenty.
Speaker 1 (01:00:17):
I'm like, ah, but you have to remember. Part of
the reason your athletic prime does not begin till twenty seven,
twenty seven to thirty three, maybe thirty five if you're
lucky drink is because you're too stupid before twenty seven.
So that's why people when they're twenty say they're old.
They're just too stupid. You shouldn't get married to you're thirty.
You certainly should be careful about it because your brain
isn't fully formed at least till twenty five and in
(01:00:40):
twenty sevens when you're smart enough to be the best
pickup basketball player you can ever be. So you know,
just keep those things in mind. And sometimes they're just that,
they're just stupid, and it's it's hard, hard to work around. No, offense.
Anybody's listening to this twenty yeah offense taken MZA.
Speaker 3 (01:00:53):
Is it crazy to say that MSU basketball could still
be in contention for the Big Ten? As late as February.
The general consensus seems to be that Michigan, Purdue, and
UCLA are significantly better than MSU. But I'm really bought
into the team's potential this year though. I think Purdue
will have uh will win. And from Jared, what percentage
(01:01:14):
chance would you put that this men's basketball team will
be better than last year's when it comes to having
a better record and making it further in the NCAA Attorney.
Speaker 1 (01:01:23):
So you remember last year Michigan State was like it
was eleven to one to win the Big Ten and
won it by three games. So you know, we don't
We don't always know year to year. There are some
and I look at Purdue's roster and I liked it.
I think they got a good chance. You have them
looks like they have a good roster. They were a
good team last year. They obviously know how to construct
a roster there what will be interesting? I mean with
(01:01:45):
Michigan State, I think there's a chance though, because you've
got quite a bit of sweat equity. You've got some.
I mean, I think there's a chance it's a really
good team, but guys are going to have to take
certain steps. Cohen Carr is gonna have to take certain step,
Jackson Cohler certain steps, Jeremy Fear certain steps. We know
that Trey Fort I think it's going to have to
be a productive player. And you know, we'll see what
Cam War did. I think there's the potential to have
(01:02:07):
enough talent and people just don't see it yet. And
I think one of the problems with projections too at
this time of year is, you know, if Michigan State
we've talked about this had just landed some of the
guys who are returning in the portal, people will be
really really high on them. And I don't think people
are necessarily low on them. They just don't think they's
high as other people. And to be fair to those projections,
(01:02:30):
all people have to go on or what they saw
last year from those positions. If you're not following Jackson
Kohler's story or Coen carr story, you're looking at who
they were last year, Jeremy Fear's story, and who they
were last year. If those are the best three players
on the team. Maybe with you know, Trey Fort mixed
in sometimes or whatever like that, You're not going to
probably win the Big Ten if they're at the level
(01:02:52):
they were last year. So that development has to happen.
But I think there's a chance it could, and I
think last year was it was a good lesson that
and there have been other teams in other years. We
just don't see coming. We don't understand. We don't have
a sense of the roster right now and how it
looks now it comes together.
Speaker 3 (01:03:07):
Ryan Rockwell, next hour are these special teams looking Jonathan
him left big shoes to fill, and I'm pretty sure
Jaydon Reid was the last decent return man.
Speaker 1 (01:03:16):
At least we still have actually to punt. Yeah, no idea.
They haven't made anybody in the special teams available yet.
I'm thinking that'll probably happen next week. I don't even
know to what extent. Jonathan Smith he's been you know,
he's been available once. He'll be available gain Monday after
the scrimmage. Probably get a little bit better sense then,
and then I'm guessing next week maybe some of those
(01:03:36):
guys will be available. There's been some returner talk, and
they do have some guys who you know, have different
difference making speed to what degree they'll be you know,
called on like it was talking to Amari Kelly about
punt returns and I think he will be somebody who's
involved there and he really the art of it, and
it was it was a good conversation. Actually, it's something
that probably should be written about more at some point
(01:03:58):
in just the fearlessness you have to have and what's
going through your mind when the ball is coming down.
They've got some interesting guys in the return game the
kicking game, though I don't know where it is and
how guys have been doing and that's something that needs
to be asked on this coming week and hopefully there's
some good opportunities for it.
Speaker 3 (01:04:14):
Scotti Green's El Camino next by season's end, who will
be the best defensive player on this MSU football team?
And from Moneybag, have you heard or seen anything from
camp that should give us a reason to have hope
about the pass rush?
Speaker 1 (01:04:27):
So I'm gonna what you want the answer to be
here is a guy like Jalen Thoms and both to
both questions, because I think he is a guy that
they are high on and if he is your best
defensive player, then the pass rush wasn't a crippling issue.
(01:04:47):
The defensive line was Okay, They're going to move around
a little bit right now. He's mostly on the outside though,
and so I think he has a chance to be
you know, obviously, I don't know who's going to be.
I think they're good at the linebacker position. There's been
a lot to talk about Jordan, but but Thompson's a
guy that I'm definitely curious to see because people have
been pretty pretty bullish on him. And you look at
(01:05:09):
Hall and Thompson, those guys that came in that last
Meltucker recruiting class, there were some talent there and those
there are some good.
Speaker 3 (01:05:15):
Players, money bag. What's more difficult hitting a home run
off an MLB pitcher or doing a Monday Wednesday Friday
podcast every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
That's crazy. Yeah, it's toss up. Could go either way.
Speaker 3 (01:05:31):
You know what, I don't know, Suburban spartan Dad finished
this sentence. We will know that Michigan State will be
a Bowl eligible team six wins if they can blank
against Western.
Speaker 1 (01:05:44):
I don't think you ever know anything for sure, when
Michigan State beats up even on a mid major team.
I mean, you think about last year, they were really
good early as a pass rush of all things, Like
they weren't outstanding for the first.
Speaker 3 (01:06:00):
Points, like a certain amount of points that if they
scored on Western, you'd be like, oh shit, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:06:04):
And I don't think westernd be truly horrible. Yeah, so
they truly just bullied them and thrashed them. And I
think they seven fourteen or yeah, something like that, and
you just want them to yeah, and you want to
see some true dominance a few places. I always say
in these games, it's hard to prove things, but it's
easy to find red flags, like if the offensive line
can't move Western, that's an issue. If they move Western
(01:06:24):
while it's Western, right, and you don't know what Western
is going to be, so you those games are to
avoid the red flags, but yeah, you want to you
want to punish, punish them and look good. But you
know a reminder, like in twenty fifteen, ten years ago, now,
when they played that game at Western, that was a
team that went to the playoff, and that was a
pretty competitive game into the fourth quarter. Now Western's team
was a year away from being very, very good and
(01:06:46):
having their own year where they went to a Cotton
Bowl and everything. So it's not like that was a
bad program. But what I'm saying is you can have
a competitive and I think in those some of those
years in the two thousands, they had games at home
that were like twenty eight seven against Jacksonville State or
Youngstown State and then really got going. So you can
even have games that are not overly impressive and still
(01:07:08):
have good seasons. But yeah, you know, and then the
flip side of that was a two thousand and two
I remember they just beat the living daylights out of
Eastern Michigan with Dwan Moss at running back and everything
like that, and wound up having a disaster every year.
So I don't know that there's a way to know
for sure. After the Western.
Speaker 3 (01:07:23):
Game, Clint one ball bany next to will the Tigers
play in the opening round of the playoffs. The season
ended today, so hold on, give me.
Speaker 2 (01:07:35):
Some off, freak, I say, under line.
Speaker 1 (01:07:45):
So the thing that's gone for the Tigers is they're
not going to be anymore. Even if they're still in
the hunt for it, they're not going to be a
team that gets a top two seed and doesn't have
to play in that first round, even though if the
season ended today they would be I mean, there's just
no way that they hold off. I don't think the
Astros and Mariners in the American League West, and maybe
(01:08:05):
I'm maybe I'm wrong, Maybe maybe they those teams won't.
I mean, it's just you're wrong. So yeah, my guess
is they're gonna They're gonna, you know, gonna wind up
playing a team like, uh, you know, Boston. I would say,
let's pay.
Speaker 3 (01:08:17):
Is it funny though that that's where we are right now,
and we're both just like, eh, I don't think.
Speaker 1 (01:08:21):
I don't think they're going to hang out there very long.
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:08:23):
It's just weird to have a team that's actually really
good on paper, but if you watch game in, game out,
you're still like, eh, yeah, And Cleveland's a weird feeling.
Cleveland has a negative run. You know, they've just been
playing better lately. Yeah, better lately.
Speaker 1 (01:08:37):
Yeah on Cleveland.
Speaker 3 (01:08:39):
I'm just saying, I understand the thirty three to one
and people were sprinkling on it, but Clint won ball.
Will MSU's defense or offense rank statistically higher when the season, then.
Speaker 1 (01:08:49):
The offense, and it better be the offense. And what
I mean by that is, I think when you look
at the potential of this offense is probably higher than
the defense. And if I'm wrong there and the defense
is great and they have a great year because the
defense is great, then then we're all taking it back.
But I think the offense has a chance to be
pretty good, and so if the team's going to be
pretty good, that needs to happen. And so it's gonna
(01:09:11):
be the offense. Last one from one ball.
Speaker 3 (01:09:13):
Will MSU basketball be ranked in the top twenty five
to start the season, don't coach my team?
Speaker 1 (01:09:19):
How many interviews will is odo with media folks that
get buy and I you know, they'll probably will be
because the way they ended last year. I think they'll
be ranked around twentieth somewhere on there, and they'll be
that national media tour.
Speaker 3 (01:09:29):
Yeah yeah, Sparti, Barb Graham, what do you know about
college hockey recruiting? We are now ranked behind Bowling Green
and Boston College for the twenty twenty five recruiting class.
Some polls even have cheat again in the number one spot.
How are these class rankings determined? Is it only based
on NHL draft status.
Speaker 1 (01:09:47):
It's a good question. I don't, you know. I used
to pay attention to it more when they were really
struggling and trying to see where they were, you know,
when it was the Nasta's era and the Danton Coley
are and like trying to figure out where they were
relative to hockey. But they've been bringing in guys of
such ilk now that it's like you can't and they
want back to back pick ten titles and they're getting
guys who are draft picks, and they have like fourteen
(01:10:08):
draft picks on the team this year. I just I
don't think that stuff's a concern, whatever the rankings are
and however they're coming to it. I and kle of
hockey is weird too, because you know, now with the
Canadian juniors, some of these guys you recruit late, and
you know some don't come till the next year. You're
recruiting them out of the USHL. I don't pay a
ton of attention to the day to day of it,
you know, checking with Nate Bought our our MSU hockey
(01:10:30):
reporter sometimes and we talk about guys that might be
coming in or what's important, things like that, but it's
not a day to day thing because it's hard to understand.
Speaker 3 (01:10:37):
Frankly, Ryan Rockwell, how can I get alerts that a
new episode is airing if I'm getting rid of Twitter
and all social media.
Speaker 1 (01:10:44):
Tried it out last week and it's.
Speaker 3 (01:10:46):
A free and experience, but don't want to miss out
on a new pod, So it's just text them, dude.
Speaker 1 (01:10:52):
I do believe that YouTube will let you know if
you're subscribed, cribe on YouTube.
Speaker 3 (01:10:57):
YouTube will let you know any wherever you get your podcast,
and if you turn the alerts on.
Speaker 1 (01:11:02):
I'm trying to get clear if I get clearance from
this to the LSJ. I've talked about this before for
a while, but I do think and I've talked to
my wife about this. Who's gonna help me do it
is have a newsletter this fall starting and that would
be for LSJ stuff, but also I think it would
be for the for the show. So if new pod
drops now, I don't know if it would be the
live like when we go live, but it certainly after
(01:11:23):
the pod was out, it would go out. It would
go out with like the quick takes and other things
like that. So, because you're right in this you're not alone.
A lot of people find it freeing. But also social
media is becoming less and less. So now he got
rid of social media. But then he's going to add
a newsletter. Well, but that's fine. It comes to your email,
comes to your Oh maybe we can figure out way
to text it, but it comes, it gets delivered to
(01:11:44):
you'd let you know, so you have email on your phone,
you would know if you I mean.
Speaker 3 (01:11:50):
I just feel like any wherever you listen to your podcast,
if you put an alert on when couch and the
roob drops, it would.
Speaker 1 (01:11:56):
Come right to your phone. That's true. That should do
that too, right, Yeah, but I mean I would love
a newsletter from couch. Yeah, letting me know. Yeah, but
that's that's that's sort of the play. I haven't got
another show, and that'll be the That'll be the name
of the newsletter. Bumpety bump boom, do hate me bumpity
(01:12:16):
bump couch on fire. How many games back.
Speaker 3 (01:12:19):
Does Cleveland need to get before we have a full
fledged panic by the Tigers fans? Or are we already there?
Do we have the All Star curse? As every Tiger
All Star except school ball as slumped since then?
Speaker 1 (01:12:33):
I think when you get inside of four games and
you're like a series away, a sweep away, people won't
really panic. I mean six is you know, six is
not much, especially the muscle win tonight. Here's here's the
thing is as manageable as the schedule is.
Speaker 3 (01:12:45):
Hold on for a second, sorry.
Speaker 4 (01:12:52):
From Detroit down to Houston and New Amazing.
Speaker 1 (01:12:57):
That's how that worked well.
Speaker 4 (01:13:03):
To the danger zone right here we go, come on,
heading into twine that spreading wings.
Speaker 1 (01:13:20):
To the last two weeks of the season. They play
a three game set at home middle of the week
against Cleveland, and the following week Wednesday through Friday, three
games set on the road. So a lot of that's
gonna I mean what you really don't Ideally if you're
the Tigers, you've got like a seven or eight game
lead going into that and you're not even because Cleveland's
gonna have a direct shot at you. And uh. The
(01:13:41):
other thing is I get to sit down with scooball
be like, are you gonna sign this contract? We're gonna
pitch you every four days here you go, man, like,
you know, obviously you're not gonna do that.
Speaker 3 (01:13:48):
I would be it's on him to sign that contract.
Speaker 1 (01:13:51):
Yeah, well, if they're offering, you know what what what
what's the offer? I don't know. It's a good question.
Are you Chris Ilich's boy dude or are you like prolege?
I'm not privilege, but I'm not privileged. Couch on Friday? Next?
Speaker 3 (01:14:05):
How many Lions defensive starters on ir by week four?
Speaker 1 (01:14:10):
Catch on fire? It should be sorry, catch on Friday?
The whole team. Yeah. But that's good though, because then
they'll be back by week eleven and that's what you want. MDP.
Speaker 3 (01:14:20):
Who's your pick to be MSU starting running back this year?
And do they end the season as the starter not
counting injury?
Speaker 1 (01:14:28):
It's a good question. I don't. I mean, I just
I'm I'm just talking on my ass right now because
you know, I can say Chase or Jase Clarizio. But
but it is, you know, it does that Kenny pass
Protect Is he consistent enough? And there's some stuff they're
(01:14:49):
talking about him that makes me believe he's got a
lot of talent, But you know, he's still a young guy.
And we even remember with LJ. Scott, like in that
twenty fifteen year where he was their leading rusher. They
used him on running and running situations. He was not
their best pass protector and that was clear and based
on how they wanted to use him. I do think
my guess is as they begin the year, Elijah Tau Tolliver,
(01:15:12):
the Sex State transfer, will be the guy. And you know,
tell Us and Fraser are both interesting guys. I just
don't have a great feel for it. Just tell us
have that speed? Is he? You know? I mean, there's
just so much more to But my guess is how
Tolliver starts. I my guess is or I don't know
(01:15:33):
who ends it. But I think Jace will at some
point have his have his day and have a chance
m d P.
Speaker 3 (01:15:39):
Will Ben Shelton take this Toronto victory and get another
championship in Cincy?
Speaker 1 (01:15:45):
Pretty impressive rise. It's hard to imagine him doing back
to back or wanting to do back to back, but
you have the US Open coming up. You don't want
to burn yourself out two straight weeks like that going
into the US Open. The tennis hopeful yeah US guy. Yeah.
But Shelton, the way he played it in Toronto, winning
his first Masters one thousand series, he is the guy.
I mean, you know, you see the limitations with the
Taylor Fritz. Like Taylor Fritz is a top five player
(01:16:06):
in the world, he is never going to catch, you know,
the very top level. He is never going to be
there with Sinner and Alcarez. Shelton has the game if
he can never develop the consistency to do it. He
has the shot making. He's the guy and so if
you're you a fan of US tennis, and he's the
guy to watch. Twenty two years old, getting better and
(01:16:27):
better and can raise his game on given days and
has been much more consistent in the matches. He should win.
Really since Wimbledon or since the French.
Speaker 3 (01:16:36):
Open MDP ever been to the Great Taste of the
Midwest in Madison, Wisconsin. Fourth time this Saturday for me,
Hoping to see some beer loving state fans there. One
of the best beer festivals around.
Speaker 1 (01:16:49):
Never been, I haven't done it. Yeah it sounds. I
love Madison, Wisconsin one another my favorite favorite big ten towns.
Speaker 3 (01:16:56):
Andrew Luisa, how much of a refund do your sponsors
get when you skip shows?
Speaker 1 (01:17:00):
We don't charge them till the end of the month,
so they get they only pay for the shows we do,
so that we're not we're not cheating them. Out, you
know what? Not only that, I don't think you know,
I don't think Groovy Donuts knows that we're not doing
a show today, so we can it's not it.
Speaker 3 (01:17:12):
Works, Andrew, shouldn't you say this is a story almost
worth telling, but if it were worth telling, it would
be presented by Midtown Brewing Company? Does Midtown Brewing Company
want to be associated with stories not worth telling?
Speaker 1 (01:17:26):
I don't think it's turning their brand. It's not like
you know, it's fucking Andrew up our ass.
Speaker 3 (01:17:31):
Fucking Hell's Oiza get fucking laid this weekend? All right,
come on the Brent Jurgison of Southern Maine. Do you
think Adam, the Gannet rep who took my call is
definitely really named Adam and is a Michigan native. Do
you think he understood when I told him I canceled
my freak sub because of Graham's dog shit response to
(01:17:53):
dmb's question this week?
Speaker 1 (01:17:56):
I hope you call like a real thick main accent too.
You know, I wish I could do a main accent
because I wish you could do the accent of Adam
and that was j Oh. I think I can. It
would be grossly offensive and I would be in trouble.
Speaker 3 (01:18:10):
Like when you sit on a bench in East Lansing,
Richard Kine, who are the top fifty non MSU Big
ten basketball players? Since you have covered MSU top fifty,
can we do one hundred? If that's too many, how
about a top ten or as many as you think
are worthy of a mention.
Speaker 1 (01:18:27):
This is probably a story to do. You know, it's
so Richard, what he's saying is never gonna happen. No,
but or it could be you know, a topic we
did on a Wednesday or something. I mean the top
that's a July like first week and a half before
we take a three week vacation. There you go, yeah, no,
I I think the best players I've covered at Michigan
(01:18:48):
State are and Cassius Denzel. Well, I covered Draymond too,
so that was I put Casius Denzel d What he's.
Speaker 3 (01:19:01):
Saying non MSU Big ten basketball players? Oh, who are
the top fifty nine miss Basket Big ten basketball players?
Speaker 1 (01:19:10):
Forever? That would make me forever. You thought it was
the other way that was feasible. Feasible. I think this
one fifty you're getting on the guys. You know, you're like, well,
Josh Langford before you got hurt. You know.
Speaker 3 (01:19:22):
Who are the top fifty non MSU, Big ten Basketball Peace.
Speaker 1 (01:19:26):
You got to know Richard is a screw with me
at this point. I appreciate you.
Speaker 4 (01:19:30):
Though.
Speaker 3 (01:19:32):
His head's gonna explode, Richard Kane. If you guys had
access to a time machine, when would you go? Where
when would you go? And why where would you go?
Or when when would you go? If you had the time?
Speaker 1 (01:19:42):
Oh my god, just think about your greatest regret and
go right before then. Oh I wasn't even thinking that.
Speaker 3 (01:19:47):
I just want to go back to when I was
having so much fun when I was like twelve, thirteen, fourteen,
so like the early nineties and that era.
Speaker 1 (01:19:55):
But I definitely would.
Speaker 3 (01:19:56):
I've always wanted to go back to like when you
see those old timey videos from the thirties and forties
and you're like, my god, I thank God every day
that I'm born like living in the time I'm living
in because when you look down and you know, we
rip on our phones, but god, it's so great when
you're bored, someone's saying something, you're looking up something, and
technology is awesome. I just look back at those videos,
I'm like, what did they do for fun back then?
(01:20:18):
Just sit outside? They have better attention spans? Yeah, congratulations,
don't don't. What do you need an attention span for?
Like everything's coming at you one hundred miles an hour,
So my attention span is like filled.
Speaker 1 (01:20:30):
But I mean in the nineteen forties, I mean, Jesus Christ,
what do you do? I have a few regrets here
and there, the depression and all that. I mean, my god,
two thousand and nine, Graham might have been a couple
of different bets. It's a good question. I eat. There
are lots of times that I would have you know,
you think about certain points. But I mean, my life
is pretty good now, so I don't would. I want
to be careful. I don't mess with the future.
Speaker 3 (01:20:52):
It's not about Yeah, you don't go talk to yourself
or do any of that back to the future shit.
You just go and you hang out and you're just
be among the people. I think, yeah, I think as
soon as that you're people notice you, you go right
back to this time.
Speaker 1 (01:21:03):
The joy of being like a nine year old kid,
the bad boy era, going to fourth fifth grade and
like playing Recess four times a day and just like
being able to play outside. Yeah, even worried about girls.
Back then, life was easy.
Speaker 3 (01:21:16):
It was like that was that was I Yeah, three
years before you started beating off. Yeah, that's it. All
your time was consumed three years Alpha Bratt. How do
you feel about all the dildos being tossed around it
at w NBA games?
Speaker 1 (01:21:31):
Is it growing the game? M Is it growing the game? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:21:40):
I thought it was funny at first, but I think
the reaction from one of the w w NBA coaches
is not the way to go about it.
Speaker 1 (01:21:46):
What was the reaction I think she was.
Speaker 3 (01:21:49):
She was extremely pissed that it's happening. I think that
you have to kind of laugh it off because if
you sit there and you go the more people do it. Well,
I mean, the one guy got caught a fellony charge,
so I think people will stop doing it now. But
when you have something like that happen and you get
so pissed off, the natural reaction from anyone on the
planet's like, I think I want to do that again.
I like that reaction, so I'm gonna throw another dil though.
Speaker 1 (01:22:11):
Yeah, the less you make of it, the less it
made it is made of it is sure, if you
can make fun of yourself. It's a dildo.
Speaker 3 (01:22:17):
I mean fifty percent of us have one, right like,
I mean, uh, well, if guys have a dick, but
the other fifty percent of ladies have anyway, all right,
let's move on. But everybody's got a dildough, we know
what one is. Why do we acting like it's some
crazy thing. It's just a fake dick.
Speaker 1 (01:22:30):
People are gonna start asking about Teresa's dildo now since
you say that, go ahead. Man.
Speaker 3 (01:22:35):
The thing's freaking high powered. Gotta plug it in and
we have a whole extension cord. I mean, what do
you who fucking cares?
Speaker 1 (01:22:43):
That is a story we're telling present of my our
friends at Midtown Bruin Company in downtown Lancing, where if
you've got a story about a dildo, you've got to
kick a bar on it. It's like American stout talk
about Dildo's there there for you. Fifty c c engine
on the fucking thing can chew?
Speaker 3 (01:23:01):
She's not a town so can she wire? Most cankoozy's black?
Are they trying to make my beer warm?
Speaker 1 (01:23:08):
I hadn't thought about this. I don't think that's how
it works, right, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:23:14):
Ralphie, next, Wow, you don't post this on blue Sky anymore.
Twitter sucks, Google sucks, Blue Sky sucks.
Speaker 1 (01:23:23):
What's left I post this on Blue Sky, don't. I
don't think I missed one on Blue Sky. I if
I have I apologize. I don't think so, Yeah, Ralph,
because we have quite a few listeners on Blue Sky
who use blue Sky for their questions and takes. So yeah,
I know, if I did, I apologize. But yeah, nothing
is universally effective anymore. Google certainly sucks. X is much
(01:23:44):
less effective. Blue Sky has never been effective. I mean,
I mean it's good for the show and interaction I'm
talking about, like generating audience and driving people to stories
or it's just none of this stuff real.
Speaker 3 (01:23:54):
Yeah, but you have to pay the monthly subscription thing
for Twitter to some degree. But even so, like yeah,
but I mean, like it tells you that there's a
reason why everything goes down because we don't have that
sor checkmark because they want to get eight ninety nine
out of you. But if you do that, it means
you're pro Elon and all that shit.
Speaker 1 (01:24:09):
You know. It's like even so, it doesn't cause there
are oh I get it. I mean, it's it doesn't.
It doesn't have an effect. Yeah, well, and it's very
flawed system that we need these third parties. It's one
of the reasons to start newsletter. Newsletters actually are really
effective within Like one of the ways that drives more
traffic than any social media is the LSJA newsletter. Like
all of my columns go in these five stories a
(01:24:29):
day that go out in the morning, right, and the
LSJA newsletter, and that drives more traffic alone than probably
all the social media combined.
Speaker 3 (01:24:37):
Then when I click on it in my email and
I don't have an account, I go then you pissed.
Speaker 1 (01:24:41):
You'd be next to that. Yeah, fart soup.
Speaker 3 (01:24:43):
I herniated a disc a few weeks back, and I'm
starting to finally feel pretty good. That said, I'm still
supposed to take it easy and not jump right back
into things. It's full swing summer in Seattle, Yet I
can't go full ham any advice.
Speaker 1 (01:24:58):
Seattle's got hills too. It's tough here.
Speaker 3 (01:25:01):
You just remember, doctors are gonna give you the worst
case scenario though, and tell you that certain amount of
weeks and blah blah blah.
Speaker 1 (01:25:07):
Just go off feel if you feel good, Just just
test it a little bit. Yeah, you have to go
full ham, go half hand. Find places where you can
have a sit. One of my favorite hobbies have a sit,
you know.
Speaker 3 (01:25:17):
Like couch and he's lancing with a thing of sushi. Yeah,
watching Vietnamese people apparently fart soup. What's the deal with
Lancing sports media? Is our water poisoned? I mean, I
look at the dames we've had to deal with, stout, ebbling,
human Hondo, Schaltz, Teman, couch.
Speaker 1 (01:25:36):
H joined the illustrious group. Thank you.
Speaker 3 (01:25:39):
That's better than the Greater Lancing Hall of Fame right there,
the fart soup Hall of Fame. What's better fart soup?
We I don't care about college sports anymore? Did they
ruin it? Who can I point my finger at? Because
I'm as I'm sure as hell not going to credit
it to me growing as a human, I don't want
the anger of my fandom circa early two thousands.
Speaker 1 (01:26:00):
I need to feel something, baby, Yeah, this is one
of those things I wish I could talk to my
dad about, because he would have You know, he grew
up in England until he was twelve. Then he lived
in Maine till he was a you know, eighteen. Then
he went to a small school into Albion, then went
back to Maine in his twenties, Like he didn't come
to Michigan till like nineteen seventy seven, and then lived
(01:26:22):
his rest of his life here and started to like
MSU sports in the eighties because they were around and
his young kid was into it and we'd go to games.
But he was never like I never saw him like
boo somebody. He was never angry about a result unless
they were like it was they'd done something really stupid,
and so he you know, but he had a really
good fan like he would get frustrated, sure, but and
(01:26:43):
he really enjoyed the good stuff. But I do wonder
for people like him and people who aren't all consumed
by it, who become fans, like where they stand and
what they think of it, and do they care less?
And how much the people really are all bought in,
how much they care less? I think this is this,
this is the story ultimately going forward over the next generation.
(01:27:04):
Do people fall out of love with college sports there?
I often think the people the age of farts soup,
And I know farts soup personally, but generally they're they're
mostly hooked. I mean, it's not great if they care
a little less. But they're gonna watch the games. They're
gonna But the question is that next generation coming in
do they never get hooked the same way because they
don't have the same connection. That's where that's where you
(01:27:24):
have a problem. It's just a funny sense I know,
farts who normal? Uh? Won no?
Speaker 3 (01:27:29):
Giarda next? Why was Max Bullet suspended? Will we ever
find out? Seems like a story worth telling.
Speaker 1 (01:27:36):
Get Max on the show, Max and oh this is
where he's gonna tell it. Max and Max and Jason
Treehorn together. Yeah. Max Is actually was an assistant coach
at Notre Dame.
Speaker 4 (01:27:46):
Now.
Speaker 1 (01:27:46):
I always thought that would be interesting if is he
moves up the ladder gets to a point where he's
like a front facing person for you know, he'll have
to talk about it at some point, because you can't
be like it was.
Speaker 3 (01:27:59):
You know that's in the past. I don't think he's
not say anything. I think at some point you ought
to tell that. Yeah, oh I would love to hear it.
I'm just saying his words.
Speaker 1 (01:28:08):
Won No.
Speaker 3 (01:28:08):
Will you please try to have Jason Strayhorn join the podcast.
Seems like he has some free time these days to
address the open questions only coward aside from the truth,
whether podcaster or guest interviewer.
Speaker 1 (01:28:20):
Yeah, we can ask, you know, and I'll ask Jason.
He's up for it. He may not be to talk
about Oh you mean straight horn. Yeah, you want to
pretend to be straight horn and do the.
Speaker 3 (01:28:32):
No won Oh will you please ask Magic why he
doesn't donate more to men's basketball and I L during
your next group interview.
Speaker 1 (01:28:39):
Well, he's not allowed to. I mean that's the biggest thing,
because if he gives to the m s U N
I L before he fully funds the lanting promise, I'm
freaking gonna they hang out on his yacht though. Yeah,
they have him flown in.
Speaker 3 (01:28:52):
There's make a nice perk if you were like on
the basketball team, like, oh, yeah, you can go hang
out with Magic.
Speaker 1 (01:28:57):
Magic got to take care of the lanting promise. First,
you can touch on SU dang it, Bobby.
Speaker 3 (01:29:02):
Next, if you're confident you're dealing with a no wiper,
should you roll with it or give it a test wipe.
Speaker 1 (01:29:07):
To be sure? What the fuck is he talking about?
No wiper? And then you know, there's such a thing
if I talking about dropping dropping a little heat there
unless you got a bidet. Man, everything's a wiper. Even
if you have a bidet, what's your no wiper? Did
you actually who talk pinge loaf and who toilet trains you?
(01:29:28):
That's not right, that's not right.
Speaker 3 (01:29:29):
That's interesting, all right? I don't know if I can
move on? Should we just done the show?
Speaker 1 (01:29:33):
There?
Speaker 3 (01:29:33):
Jake Hawkins great column on MSU's defense scale of one
to ten. How confident are you they can be a
good and underrated unit for MSU football this season?
Speaker 1 (01:29:44):
Oh? Oh, not that confident. I mean the I would
say the confidence would be in Joe Rossi and that
I think he is a competent and good coordinator. And
I think from year to year they'll understand what a
defense needs, and he's, you know, personnel wise, in charge
of sort of out and helping him get it, and
so I I would tend to think he wouldn't let
(01:30:06):
a defense go through what they did a year ago.
I do think their depth is better, So I think
as there are injuries, as there are every year, they
won't fall off as poorly as badly as they have
the last few years. I think that will be there.
I don't know what their level will actually be, but
I don't believe they'll fall off as much. But yeah,
I don't scale one to ten out confident of my
I you know, I do not have a ton of
(01:30:28):
confidence check because you got you gotta see it. I
would put in a two three range, you go either way.
The next one from the Hawk thoughts from both of
you guys. In the recent news of ESPN acquiring the
NFL Network and NFL Red Zone. I never knew or
would have thought that the NFL was trying to dump
the NFL network. Yeah, apparently they've been wanted to dump
the NFL for work for a long time, trying to
(01:30:48):
get out of that business. Yeah, no, I like that.
Speaker 3 (01:30:50):
The Hawk also goes thoughts from both of you guys,
like if I, you know, if you just said just
for Graham, if I had a thought on it, I
could can't jump in. Yeah No, I just figured ESPN's
is going to ruin everything I love anyway. So I'm
just gonna ESPN has has that straight to consumers self starting,
and that they want this as part of that at
least some party. I still have Scott Hansen, do they
(01:31:11):
As long as you don't fuck with the whole thing.
Have Stephen A on it.
Speaker 1 (01:31:14):
I don't think it'll be Yeah, I don't think it'll
be be bad. The NFL is just trying to get
out of the business. It's you know, the NFL network
was a I don't want to say it's a dinentity,
but a lot of things it's not growing. And I
listen to podcast the other day where they were just
talking to the NFL does not try to be in
the business of things that aren't growing. It's their WNBA,
the NFL. That's that's exact opposite of what's happening.
Speaker 3 (01:31:31):
But Jake Hawkins, are you guys having two thousand and
nine jitters about the Tigers after they lost two out
of three to the Twins with.
Speaker 1 (01:31:38):
A bunch of unknown players.
Speaker 3 (01:31:41):
I have two thousand nine jitters every time I watch
at Detroit sporting event. So that's why I have so
many mgs flowing through my blood to knock those fucking
jitters off. Because of course, absolutely the sky is always falling, Jake.
I recently read an article about Microsoft putting out a
list of fifty jobs that could be threatened by the
takeover of Two of the jobs on the on there
(01:32:02):
were journalists and radio DJs.
Speaker 1 (01:32:05):
How does that make you guys feel about that or not?
Radio DJs, I mean we got a two for Tuesday. Yeah,
those sort of things are much more automated, have been
for a long time. Yeah, I mean you can fake
that Shah and journalists, I mean, there are elements of it,
but people want the accountability and that's one thing that
that AI cannot do, and certain levels of creativity and
(01:32:25):
people want to know what's coming from a person. There.
There are some good things about AI. There's some really
scary things about AI. It can be a good tool
in a lot of ways too for journalists, but if
you know, if you're doing a good job in journalism, uh,
it cannot replace you for a while. AI can't replace humor,
Like I was watching you or not yet at least
(01:32:47):
an AI video last night and it was kind of
trying to be a humorous kind of video and you
could just tell it's kind of AI. So please, Radio DJs,
al r p U. Jerk guy, how would you describe
me in three words? Obtuse, lovable, cockburn.
Speaker 3 (01:33:08):
Cockburn? There you go, jerk guy. How often are you
completely nude?
Speaker 1 (01:33:13):
More than you think? Jesus, poor neighbors.
Speaker 3 (01:33:17):
Jerk guy, how successful do you think Jonathan Smith can
be at Michigan State.
Speaker 1 (01:33:23):
I think if he has the resources to compete with
the top programs of the Big Ten, then they can
be at the top six program of the Big Ten.
That would sort of set out is the thing they
needed to be by the previous athletic administration. We'll see
what Jay Batt again says about that and his goals
for them. I think he's a really good coach. I
think he's got a good staff. You know, talent acquisition
(01:33:45):
is part of that, and part of talent acquisition now
though is paying players and how you manage that, and
so I think if he gets he's given the resources
and time, he can be really effective at Michigan State.
Speaker 3 (01:33:57):
Jerk guy, when was the last time you pooped without
your phone? And what did you do? I pouted like
I was seven. It's like when I forgot my earbuds
when I went to the gym. I absolutely pouted. It
was really I thank god no one else was around poop,
stop stomping my feet. Kind of seriously, I love having
my earbuds at the gym. It keeps me going. And
(01:34:17):
it's just like when you forget that. You're just even
though I live ten minutes away anyway, jerk guy, how
bad of a sanction will Central get for Michigan's cheating?
Speaker 1 (01:34:25):
Yeah, I'm curre. I don't know what you will get.
They'll get some sort of slap on the wrist. I mean,
the problem is the coaches. The coaches will get something,
but they're no longer there, right.
Speaker 3 (01:34:34):
Is it because people don't care about Central, Like it'll
just be like it's not.
Speaker 1 (01:34:38):
Well and and what Central did was was bad because
it was it was you know, it was somebody from
a different staff in a game and it goes against
the spirit of competition. They'll they'll get something for it,
the one hundred percent. Well, I just don't know to
what extent.
Speaker 3 (01:34:51):
And finally for the week, jerk guy, best bet this week.
Speaker 1 (01:34:56):
Bet against Wrexham. Get on, get on, you know, go
South Hampton against Wrexham. That's that's my that's my bet
on the Asian line. On the Asian line, Always on
the Asian line, especially if you're watching watching students out
at Michigan State next week. Sorry I didn't play. We'll
fix that in post as a portable ending. Yeah, we'll
cut that as a clip. We appreciate all of you guys.
