(00:36):
We listened to Brent Brendan's down a little bit, gonna
turn the tides here in the second hour of Cougar Sports,
got to talk a little bit of basketball. Brett and myself.
Yesterday we're at Marriott Madness. Yes, that's right, it's changing Marriot, man,
it's not midnight madness.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
And Brett and I were tired. We got home late.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
I couldn't even imagine if it would have started at
midnight or what it was back in the day when
it started at eight to nine bread back in the day.
Oh man, dude got a bit too, probably like two
thirty and Gray Fullist moved up. They had a NBA
three point All Star like contest. It was Richie SNAs
versus Mariah Hudgins. Controversial, little controversial, by the way, I'll
(01:12):
have you explain that in just the second. It was
Richie Saunders and Maria Hudgs versus Delaney Gibb and Tyler Morass.
So all of the shooters, all of the bucket getters.
For by, you thought they were gonna do a gun
to excuse me, a dunk contest. Apparently they didn't. But yeah,
this segment, though, is gonna be brought to you by
Utah Protective Films. Guys, to be looking for a rap
at ten or a crumb delete for your vehicle, you
(01:32):
need to hit up our guy, Jared Bledshell.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
That's right. He's a former b aUI receiver.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
He helps the football players and the basketball players deck
out the rise.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Let him help deck out yours as well.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
When you mentioned Ben Kritle or ESPN, you'll get fifteen
percent off any service. That's fifteen percent off any service.
So schedule your appointment today at Utah Protective Films Utah
Protective Films dot com. Okay, Brett, little controversial between It
looked to be what we thought was one side winning,
but then the other side actually won, but they got
(02:03):
the scores wrong.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Yeah, it was really odd.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
So it was Richie Saunders and Mariah Hudgens against Tyler
Russ and Delaney Gibb I believe, yep. And what was
funny was so they each team was shooting on their
own side. So Maria and Richie are on side, Tyler
and Delaney were on the other side, and they were shooting,
and they're keeping score of both sides up on the
(02:28):
jumbo tron. And at the end, once it's fifteen and
once is eighteen, and Richie and Mariah had lost.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
Now you and I were standing right behind.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
The women's basketball team their side of the bench, and
they were freaking out. They're like no, no, no, Like
we're talking with them, They're like, no, there's no way.
Like we saw Richie make x amount, we saw Mariah
make x amount.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
They definitely won.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Well, nothing happened, Tyler Delaney go up, they grabbed their trophies.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
They won.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
Come to fi find out moments later. Minutes later, Yeah,
it was like three minutes later. It wasn't a super
long time, but it wasn't right away. Come to find out,
they actually had the scores flipped. So the counter that
was next to Richie and Mariah Hudgens was actually meant
for Tyler and Delaney, so they actually they they were
(03:20):
given the right score, but it wasn't their score, So
then they had to go back and then announce over
the PA.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Well, actually Ritchie and Mariah won.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
But the kicker to all of this is prior to that,
you and I were standing there down there on the
baseline and we see one of the social media girls
walk up with one of the trophies in her hands
because someone had dropped it and it had smashed, and
so she put it in the trash can.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
So by the time Ritchie and Mariah had found out
that they won, the trophy had already been broken.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
That's crazy now, I know there were two trophies, uh,
but Mariah's definitely was broken for sure. Delaney was lookinglike
I don't know if I want And when you look
like you didn't win when it happens, maybe you did.
In that regarding Delandium and Tyler are great shooters. But
Richie and Mariah I think, and out of the twenty
balls that they shot, I think they had made fifteen
(04:12):
or sixteen. Richie, I think may ten in a row.
Richie didn't miss from that elbow part right there. He
was on fire. Now, obviously we know when he got
in the game he missed a couple, but I think
he's surprised of how wide open he is. But that's
the attention that you dropped from a player like aj
De Bonsa, So that's just how it goes.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
But yeah, we were standing behind. Everybody was shocked.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
Josh Edwards, you know, the assistant coach of player development,
him and I were chat. I was like, Josh, how
did I get that? Jeff hurts the out Like, no, dude,
they won. I'm over here, like what is what is
going on? Like there's no way.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
You know.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
Kylie Webster, I'm like she was in She was looking crazy.
Mercedes Staplem, like how did that? Maybe maybe it was
just me in their regard. I was trying to look
for John Wardenberg because I know he'll go over them
and poke a little bit more. But at the end
of the day they got it right, but shout out
to the bucket Getterer talk King and then you know
the Taylor Swift queen. I guess you know that's a
good way to give. Mariah would enjoy that. So I
(05:07):
won't say it, but there was a little birdie that
I had sent someone a message to saying they tried
to cheat you, and I got to reply and says
thank you explamation point capital letters.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
I don't think they liked that anyway, Mara mad this
is great.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
We'll break it all down here, moll we'll talk to
JT and the five five or five segments of that
fourth hour more regards to what he saw.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
But let's get into a little bit.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
Kevin Young actually addressed us after the Blue and White scrimmage.
Let's get an update from Kevin Young on the team.
Gonna play the full interview. We'll probably stop it and
just break it down.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Here we go.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
Kevin Young from yesterday's post game between the Blue versus White.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
Filled with students. So it was great, man.
Speaker 5 (05:43):
Obviously there's a lot of excitement around I think b
YU athletics in general, and uh, you know, glad that
everyone can kind of just see some of our guys tonight.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
What were you looking to accomplish out of this?
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Stay healthy?
Speaker 5 (05:57):
Honestly, we've been banged up, so that was a big
part of just trying and keep guys up right. I mean,
that's kind of why we played the amount of minutes.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
That we did.
Speaker 5 (06:05):
Uh, But you know, you just you just want to
see guys being able to execute the things that we've
been working on, which there was a lot to like tonight. Obviously,
a ton of stuff that we need to continue to
get better at.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
But I think just seeing carry Over.
Speaker 6 (06:18):
One of those guys, that's because we see him.
Speaker 5 (06:20):
Yeah, nah, yeah, of course, I mean he was yeah,
I mean he's banged up. Nate's a little banged up.
Dawson's banged up. Bro, he's banged up, you know, and
so uh robl uh.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
You know, he's he's pretty much clear for full go.
Speaker 5 (06:32):
We held him out tonight just to kind of keep him,
keep him where he's gonna be ready to go for
next week.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
You know, we got a big, big week next week,
and so wan and just keep him right ready to go.
Speaker 5 (06:42):
Obviously, you know, missing your starting point guard, you know,
things are going to look a little different. Mainly because
now guys are starting to do stuff. We're not going
to ask them to do any real games. And I
think you saw a little bit that tonight. But it's
also good though, give guys different opportunities to be in
positions that you never know, how games go, with fouls
and in game injuries, guys may have to play in
roles that they that they're not used to.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
Okay, stop it right there for a sec as we're
listening to the post game sound if you're just tuning in.
Kevin Young yesterday from the Blue and White scrimmage that
happened a part of Marriott madness. A couple things there,
so obviously he's talking about when he drove in students
lined up, he said he saw the lower bowl looked
like it would you know, mainly of students and got
him excited, excited for basketball season and be back rightfully,
(07:25):
so it is.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
It is back next week. They have the exhibition October eighteen.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
Let's get into the nitty gritty to meet though, guys
that are banged up, you know, Brody banged up, Dawson
banged up, Nate Pickens, little banged up, Rob right banged up,
said Rob is fully clear now to go. But they
kind of held him out because they got a big week,
very big week next week and who they have to
play and going to Nebraska, and then also you know,
they got you and C coming up, so they held
(07:49):
him out precautionary. I felt like, you know, they know
they're obviously team and players better in that regard. We
don't know, but anytime you have a start point guard,
he doesn't need to play in the Blue and White
scrimmage against his team last night.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Almost felt like if you shut up to Thanksgiving dinner
and there wasn't any mac and cheese, but because the
rest of the meal, the stuffing, the turkey, everything else
is so good, you didn't et.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
The rolls were so good you forgot there was no
mac and cheese.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Because honestly, I didn't think about it until I walked
in this morning and Ben goes, oh, it sucks.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
The guard lines a little banged up, And I was like, oh,
you know what, You're right.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
They were a little bit that they didn't really play
yesterday because I thought, okay, Alexi played Canard depending on
how you want to play, Yeah, yeah, but I didn't
really realize, like some of your top guards obviously, like
I knew Dawson and Rob didn't play, But never at
any point during that game that I feel like, man,
(08:45):
we're missing some guards out there, because every way they
wanted to run the offense, they were able to do it.
You saw Aj bring up the ball a lot, Alexi
was able to run the offense. Everybody was able to
facilitate and run the four. So guess the guard line.
Maybe he wasn't as present yesterday in the blue and white,
and look, it would have been so much fun to
watch Rob Wright. He's like the second biggest name on
(09:09):
this team and we haven't gotten eyes on him truly yet.
We've only seen highlights and I guess we've seen him
in the Marriott Center for Baylor, but we haven't seen
him play and be what for. Yeah, so we're excited
to see him. But certainly last night you never felt like, man,
we're missing some pieces here.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
No, you didn't feel that way. They definitely able to
put it together.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
Now, obviously when non conference, maybe not even a non
conference will you you might not notice him missing to
a degree. Now maybe with this tougher schedule you could,
but definitely wants the big twelve rolls around. You're definitely
gonna notice if Rob Ryder significant players Dawson Baker are
not available in Nate Pickens and Brodi Culls lost Caius,
he'll notice significant Andrews. But I'm looking at this roster
right now. Rob can handle the point, run it. Aj
(09:52):
can as well. Alexi can.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
Now.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
Kevin Young is gonna make a comedy here momentary to
tease a little bit that he can do that, but
that's not really his roll, right He's playing outside that
lily more of a combo guard.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
Nate Pickens is a guy that can do that.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
In that regard, Richie, you run set places for Rooim,
but he really doesn't run your offense. Dawson Moore as
a ball handler. Conard's more of.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
A ball handler.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
So he got one, two, three, four, five, six, So
you got about between four to six ball handlers on
his team. Yesterday you only saw probably about you know,
three of those guys. You saw Canard AJ and he
saw you know, Alexi.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
That was it.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
Nate Pickens didn't play obviously, Dawson Baker didn't, then Rob
Wright didn't. But once to get backs that way, and
I mean Kevin Young said this, I remember even the
little lunch session that we had. I'm not revealing anything
that's not obviously that way because he said guys are
banged up.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
He said that during luncheon that they were guys that
were banged up.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
Right, So even in that luncheon that we had with
them before the season, you know, kind of a you know,
more of a get to know you pre kick off
to the basketball season. He even said this, So I
wasn't surprised by those guys having him already told us
that in that regard. But yeah, that was just the
crazy part. Now, maybe we should have asked iivin. This
is a funny one as we're looking at some of
the videos back. But the shoe game yesterday was on point.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
It was fire.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
I'm gonna let you take it away because you were
noticing more than me. But man, I couldn't. I couldn't
keep up. There were some nice shoe game last night
from all these players.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
And the thing that I'm just realizing now is I'm
watching back. I took a ton of video last night,
so coming through it is a little crazy for me.
The thing I didn't realize last night, so I took
a video at the very beginning when they were warming
up and I saw I think it was Hilo he
was wearing the Kobe four FC barcelonas he actually comes
out later in Kobe Grinch six is the shoe game
(11:42):
on this team was crazy. I'm putting out a video
later because I actually realized during Richie's three point competition.
There's a video of that online right now the BOE
basketball posted and people are like, well, what shoes is
Richie wearing?
Speaker 3 (11:55):
Because Richie had the cut academies on. There were.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
Kadeem even had like Devin Booker. I think they were
the Halloween ones. So there was a ton of crazy
shoes debuted. Brendan Dunson had Gama Blue, Jordan's, Chris Burgess
had him on. Kevin Young we know, or at least
I know, he only wears the Stephan Janowski slips when
(12:20):
he goes one of the two. But he only wears
the Stephan Janowski slips when he coaches talked the three
quarters that he's got the so and then aj had
he had the old Paul George is on the NASA
ones from a couple of years ago. See so, if
if you're if you're curious, if you see the crazy
(12:41):
shoe game from last night and you're like, what is
everyone wearing. I'm putting out a video later today of
what shoes everybody had on, So don't trip. This is
the best probably swag of shoe game that this team won,
this roster, this team this year. Like yeah, because like
the last couple of years, it was like, okay, cool twos.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
A couple of cold people got crazy. The only thing
they wore was the Kobe Grinch six. That is what
Trevin Neil Tree story. And I think Dawson Baker, I
think all three.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
Those are sweet shoes. The rest of these guys, those.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
Are incredible shoes. But like now these guys are getting
in their bag even more. We'll have to talk to
j T about this because JT is also King of
the Sneakers. Can't get the Sneakers.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
Let's go ahead, get back to the sound Kevin Young
from yesterday b y U's Blue and White Scrimmage post.
Speaker 6 (13:24):
Game thoughts on playing and how he's been evolving since
your life.
Speaker 5 (13:32):
Yeah, super happy with aj Uh. I love coaching him.
He's very coachable. He does what he does, what we
asked him to do. You know, tonight he had the
ball his hands a lot as a playmaker. I thought
he got a little bit tired of doing that. But
I mean just the read, spend, high level stuff for
a kid of his age. Uh you know, I think
in that first game, I think you had five assists
(13:53):
in twelve minutes or whatever, and should have had a
bunch more that that.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
That's I think whatever jersey they.
Speaker 5 (13:59):
Were wearing in the second of that team couldn't couldn't
buy a bucket. But I thought he generated a lot
of really good looks. And that's really what I've been
on in basically about two things, making the right read
and playing defense. And I think for stretches tonight he
did both those things really well.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
When you address the exhibition stop right there, I just
want to do that. Aj is an unselfish player. I
asked him to do two things, make the right Reid
and play defense. And last night, Brett he did every
one of those things. If he had if if, if
the red wasn't open, then he won and nobody moved.
He took it one on one. He wasn't selfish. He
didn't force anything. That was the biggest thing. Maybe he
(14:34):
had two or three like Okay, he shot extra, but
that was like in transition, so those are different. But
he didn't force anything in the half court seting the
five one five. The first play of the game, Xavion
Stateon tips it right to AJ. AJ tosses up a lot.
Ag hasn't even put the ball in the four. He
tosses up to the lot to my highlight bucket. Itch
in the highlight bucket. Unfortunately, because I think the highlight
(14:55):
don't got them bunnies.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
He does it, and deal Monde was also in position,
and trust me, you're not jumping with Dominique Diomonde. But
the thing that I loved about AJ last night was
sometimes you see in situations like this where a guy
will overcorrect or over compensate. So AJ's the number one
overall recruit, He's the highlight machine. Obviously he's coming in here.
(15:18):
So then what you see happen is okay, Well, I
want everyone to know that I'm a team first guy.
So then I don't shoot the ball and I only
pass it and I'm never going one on one. I'm
just trying to run the offense and get everybody involved.
That's not what AJ did. AJ was a perfect balance
of both. He made the right play. Sometimes the right
play was, hey Knard, watch this, we're going one on one.
(15:41):
He gets the step back, flight away, he drills it.
Then there were other times when it was he'd he'd
run up, give it, get it back and kick it
out to Alexi or kick it out to Mihilo who's
out on the three, out on the perimeter. He made
the right play every time, and he never shied away
from his game. He just let the game come to
him and let the game dictate. Okay, is it aj time?
(16:03):
Do I need a skywalk to the rim right now?
Or do I need to get out to the open
three point shooter? One hundred percent love the unselfishis and
how you broke that down he did, He didn't. He
did exactly everything that just said. I watched it with
my own two eyes and everybody else there.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
You know what the best part was when he's able
to go one on one, he's gonna draw a lot
of fouls. There might be a lot of people that
have to file out guarding him because he is so tough.
When he hits you with that hesy, when he hits
you with that skywalk the euro I mean, it's difficult.
We're gonna hear from Canard and Alecxi in the next
segment to get to know them well. But Canar's gonna
talk about how tough it is to guard this dude.
(16:36):
Aj is a problem. I'm gonna say that again. I
do not fear any of these big twelve coaches to scout.
This team is going to be a nightmare. I'm gonna
preach it all season long. Let's get back to it.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
O Great, Just one last thing before we get into that.
When you say things like that, when we ask Canard
things like that, it took me back to fall camp
for the Speoau football team when Chase Roberts said, like
this defense that we go against every day in practice,
this is the best defense that we're going to face
all Yeah, And I think the same is true with
(17:07):
Kennard Davis and with the rest of this BOE basketball team.
It's like, look, AJ is the number one player in
the country coming out of high school. There are not
many players who you will get to guard who are
better than this guy. So if you can learn to
hang with and handle him in some form or fashion,
we know they can't fully lock the man down, but look,
(17:29):
if you get iron Sharpe curtains iron sharpens iron. If
you can hang with this guy in practice, there's not
many guys who are going to see in the season
who are going to give it to you tougher than
aj Will.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
I agree with that, no doubt.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
Back to the Kevin Youngs sound yesterday, b Yu Blue
White scort much postgame.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
In games that are kind of new in college basketball,
how much you lead on your NBA experience with exhibition
games to kind of make game plans and what you.
Speaker 7 (17:53):
Expect to sell.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
It's funny.
Speaker 5 (17:54):
I was talking to Fred Hoiberg today and we were
kinda I said, hey, man, look this is really our
first time doing it, so what do you want to do.
And we were just kind of having some conversations, and
so it's different than the NBA because you're not you know,
it's not like this. I don't know, it's not a
big deal. You just go play five or six exhibition
games and off you go here. I think that has
(18:16):
kind of come a big deal because it's new. It
is new, so I don't I don't really know what
to make of all of it. I'm just I'm glad
we're playing a team with like Nebraska who's going to
be really organized, offensively, going to challenge this and things
like that. So, honestly, man, I'm kind of learning on
the fly as it relates to these exhibition games.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
You and f are just gonna agree to play five
and five and sub five.
Speaker 5 (18:36):
And no, I mean we did have an agreement on
certain things, you know, like, just hey man, this is
this is what we're gonna do.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
We're not gonna try to trick you.
Speaker 5 (18:44):
You know, well, this will be our coverages and stuff
like that, just so we can both kind of get
get the most out of it.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
Only four of the.
Speaker 6 (18:51):
Eleven people who sit it up tonight have played for
you before. What's it been like kind of people getting
used to new players and new people.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
Coming in and practice and stuff. It's been great, honestly, man.
Speaker 5 (19:01):
We have a really good group of guys that think
they all really like each other, which is super important.
They've all fit in really well into the community in
the PROVO and the BYU, and so it's been great. Man,
It's just been good, good vibes.
Speaker 8 (19:15):
Honestly, is there an identity being built right now with
this team that you can recognize or is that something
that takes longer throughout the season.
Speaker 5 (19:23):
I think every team is different. I thought tonight some
of the stuff I saw was a definitely step in
the right direction there. I thought our activity defensively was
really good. I think this team is a lot longer,
a lot more athletic than the team we had last year,
and so I think we can We're trying to be
more aggressive defensively. I thought you saw that in Spurts tonight.
I mean, I'm hopeful that every team that is playing
(19:46):
here under me as an unselfish team. I thought the
ball was popping for the most part tonight, not as
much as I would have liked. That's something that will
be able to show them on the tape. But those
are really the I think the identity of what this
team is going to be about.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
Stop right there for us.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
I just want to go back a couple of things
trying to figure out the identity. But we want to
go back to something he said previously that was asked
in regards to that was darn and Dickson asking those
fantastic questions. And I can't remember the kid who's working
at BEAUDTV. He asked the phenomenal question, is Zach Zach?
That great question by Zach what the point that I'll
do your homework. Only four people were turning back. I
thought that was a phenomenal question of how do you
(20:22):
build you know, basically chemistry, how they've been taken in
here when you have them, when you have a guy
fifteen rosters and eleven guys are new you know, or
ten or whatever it is, that is a very important question.
Celebrity pointed that out. But something Double D said in
regards to the exhibition, Fred Hoiberg. Hoiberg, who's the Nebraska
Cornhuskers men's basketball coach? Kevin gonna be in very open. Hey,
here are coverages here. We're going to run exhibition. It
(20:44):
used to be the private scrimmages that no one knew
about right in that regard, and then we would have
you know, the insiders like the rock people, rumors.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
That know the bout.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
Okay, this is who won and fans can speculate. I'm
glad that Kevin's being open. Coach younges being open, excuse me,
and about now I'm telling him this so we can
get the most out of it, because that's what the
exhibition is. It's supposed to be able to improve kind
of what you saw in the Blue Whites.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
Playing that game, lost record, only playing that game to
get better.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
So I love it.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
And BYU basketball is not the only team that does
this other teams. I remember when I was covering women's
soccer at b YU TV, they did an exhibition and
they had given their coverages back and forth with the
other team, Like, this is not just Kevin and this
is not just boy basketball. This is a part of
how winning coaches developed their programs as they say, hey, look,
(21:33):
we're going to give you our game plan, and we
need to find a way to be able to win
even if the game plan.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Isn't in our favor. Yeah, you're you're not wrong about that.
Speaker 4 (21:42):
When you're playing exhibitions, I remember playing exhibitions, you're trying
to see what coverage you can run, what players are developing,
and seeing what you can do in your scheme. In
those regards, it's more to get tape on yourself and
see how you can execute when it matters most in
those situations.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
So that's mainly what it is. Glad that he brought that.
Speaker 4 (21:58):
I'm glad that he said that because lots of times
people think, oh, well if b A. He doesn't beat
you and he's like, Okay, yeah, there are some bragging rights,
but not really though, you're looking to execute your game plan. Kay,
let's get back to the finish up the last little bit.
Kevin Young post him sound from the Blue and White
scrimmage yesterday.
Speaker 8 (22:14):
We saw Richie with how's the chemistry between those two
and guys the leaders of this teams year?
Speaker 5 (22:23):
Yeah, I think the chemistry is, uh is really good.
I think a J is a selfish player, you know,
and what you get a guy like him who's obviously
extremely you know, talked about and so forth. Uh, He's
he's a humble guy. He wants to be coached. He's
he allows us to coach him. I think his teammates
respect that, you know. I know, Uh, he's young obviously,
(22:43):
but yeah, he is going to be, you know, one
of our leaders. I think Richie clearly will be. You know,
I expect Kiva to be. You know, Kayva is a
quiet guy, but that you all know how much of
a gamer he is and he's been here. He knows
knows what we're about. He knows what this league is about.
So where we're lying on him as well. But I
think there's other guys too, you know Rob's experience playing
(23:04):
in the Big twelve, I think will play you know,
a pivotal role, especially at that position.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
You know, he'll have some some of the he'll shoulder
some of that load as well.
Speaker 9 (23:12):
Question.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Well, yeah, I mean he can really shoot the ball.
Speaker 5 (23:17):
You know, he's a guy that's playing a little bit
out of out of position because he's he is a
true combo. But uh, I think he's probably the most
pode when he's off the ball. I think you saw
that in that first twelve minutes. That sucker can shoot,
you know, and he gets it off quick, and uh,
he's got a lot of experience for being a young guy.
So you know, we'll see where it goes. But he's
(23:38):
been you know, he's had moments like tonight where you know,
he's a guy you just have to know where he
is and so that that that space is the floor
out really well for guys like Rob Richie.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
And Rob.
Speaker 6 (23:51):
A guy that factor into the rotation.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
When Yeah, I mean I've been impressed. I was in
President of the Night.
Speaker 5 (23:59):
He's he's a wild man, which sometimes is good and
sometimes is bad. You know, it reminds me of my
ten year old son right in that respect, But uh no, man,
he's a load super physical you know, which the boats
well in our league. You know, he's put on almost
twenty pounds of muscle since we got him. You know,
high motor guy. And so he's he's he's definitely putting
(24:20):
his hand up and making a case for himself.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
And I really liked what he did tonight.
Speaker 4 (24:27):
Alrighty before we get the TI any further along and
other sound that will get into the next segment, Kevin
unco had a lot of good things right there.
Speaker 3 (24:33):
The first I want to go back to with AJ.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
The highlight that real quick he wants to be coached,
he allows us to coach, and I jump prematurely said
it because I prepared. That was the part where I
mentioned earlier in the segment about j being unselfish. Kevin
unto it there, unselfish, he allows as a coach, he
wants to be coached. That's tough in this day and
age when you have the number one recruit right entitlement's
a big part of that. So love that he pointed
that out, and you definitely see from AJ he is
(24:56):
not against that.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
He was in the huddles. He's taking it in this
guy knows that he needs to play at the next.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
Level, wants to play at the next level in that regard,
So I thought that was something that stood out.
Speaker 3 (25:06):
Alexi, I wanted to know about that.
Speaker 4 (25:07):
He said that'll sucker can shoot, he's more, he's the
most potent when he's off the ball.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
He gotta look out for him.
Speaker 4 (25:12):
But then the last thing, the guy that you and
I have said, where's he gonna fit in Kadem He
compared him to his ten year old son.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
Ron. I thought we understood how the minutes on this
team were going to be distributed, and I thought they
were gonna get no more entries for more minutes yep
and Kadeem Abou last night made it really tough to say, hey, brother, uh,
you may need to get another job because because we
got a new guy and your hours may be going
down around here. That's how it felt like now because Kadem,
(25:42):
I don't think it was the It might have been
the first bucket of the game when I think Keva
tips it and then Kadem grabs it and runs full
court and just jams it like this is a guy again,
to Kevin Young's point, a little bit like a ten
year old where he's raw. However, he has the talent.
(26:05):
The talent is there. It's just that he's sometimes a
wild man, a wild child. He's a little bit crazy
and he and he got the talent is raw, but
the talent is definitely there. There's not a lot of
things that this guy can't do. He's an absolute unit
of an athlete. Oh man, it is gonna be a
fun time watching defenses come to b YU And Kevin
(26:28):
Young said, all right, you just tell me what pitch
you want. We can we could give we give you
a splitter, we give you whatever you want. You just
tell us the pitch that you want. Will give that
to you. You won't be able to hit it, but
we'll tell you. Just you just as a matter of fact,
we're gonna throw a fastball at we want to throw
you to change it. We're gonna throw you fastballs two
seams all day. You know it's coming.
Speaker 3 (26:49):
You can't.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
Actually, you bring up a good point, and yeah, he
is very raw. I think he's got a great skill set.
And you did see the wild man yesterday out there.
You saw the Okay, there's a couple of crazy shots. Oh,
there's a okay, there's some tumbling out of bounds. But
like you said, you always want to have a guy
that has the high motor that you have.
Speaker 3 (27:06):
To easy there, easy, to easy there easy.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
He was always around the basket, really tough for guys
like Xavian and others to get shots at the rim.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
And you couldn't move him. It's not like you could
just bang. No, Bro, he's a unit. You can't move him.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
And so I don't know that he perfectly swatted every shot,
but his physical presence was enough to keep guys from
getting good shots on the basket.
Speaker 4 (27:31):
Yeah, Bro, six nine, I don't give us the weight,
but the rechir freshman from Senegal, product of NBA Academy,
I gotta be like t Bro thirty, gotta gotta he
gotta be at least like two twenty twenty five at
six he's massive.
Speaker 3 (27:45):
I'mbut to get some weights. I'm not to hit up.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
The information director says, hey, can we get the weights
of these guys because these dudes are units. Uh, they're built,
no doubt. But you know who else is built? Jared Bledsoe.
That's why if you're looking for a rappertend or chrome

Questions first, as they is, he has seniority, so go ahead,
what overf questions?

Speaker 7 (31:15):
Uh you know what was electric? You know i've seen
the rocks was all right. The other the rock it
was wow.
Speaker 10 (31:21):
You know, got first game jetters, but it was nice,
so good experiences.
Speaker 7 (31:27):
The nickname so I'm a junior, so I have the
same name as my dad. That was really his child.
The name brought up, so it just got passed down.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
He's big move.
Speaker 7 (31:35):
I'm a little more around frans Fami League. Yeah, why
did you come to be one year?
Speaker 2 (31:39):
What was about this place to year?
Speaker 10 (31:41):
Love that part of you know obviously you know k
Wise his background and the people he brought way him
and then being able to play like at the highest
level against the butt the best players.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
You know.
Speaker 7 (31:51):
So I just felt like it was a great fit.
And then academically, like everything came together like yeah, how.
Speaker 8 (31:56):
Would you describe how dream camp practice, intensity, the competitive
miss out most being the past few weeks and drown
the summetery.
Speaker 10 (32:04):
I would say, like it's physical, every day tiring, you know,
but you know y'all pushed you to get to the angle,
but everything's been good.
Speaker 6 (32:12):
What you gonna set? Do you feel like you ran
to the team?
Speaker 10 (32:16):
Energy high motor for sure, That's what I would say,
Energy high motor. I'mna bring that every time every.
Speaker 6 (32:20):
Day steepens something that you take right now?
Speaker 7 (32:23):
Oh yeah, sure, doing it all my life, so I
take pride in Yeah.
Speaker 6 (32:27):
Look, you have ask all the questions, got Jackson? Well again?
Speaker 8 (32:34):
What was what are your pressons of the coaching staff
people you played for KYM.
Speaker 10 (32:39):
Sorry it's an amazing coaching staff, but I think about
it every day, you know, like I don't have no
regrets on coming here. You know, it pushed you every
day and it's a very like intelligent, like smart coaching staff,
so like I'm learning every day.
Speaker 7 (32:52):
Yeah, it's a good experience.
Speaker 6 (32:54):
Looks she already feel like you and justin being a
leg anition adding to the team.
Speaker 9 (32:58):
Think of Austin pretty well. I mean obviously I haven't
been here for too long, but I love it here.
Like the opportunity I have here is like crazy and
I don't like that for granted, And I tried to
prove myself every day in practice.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
And just keep working.
Speaker 6 (33:13):
Really contact.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
Yeah I did know.
Speaker 9 (33:15):
I didn't know, especially because of Jimmer. I also have
Actually I actually have a picture with Jimmer. I met
him when he played three x three in Vienna. So
it's kind of a fun story that I ended up
like playing here.
Speaker 6 (33:28):
Yeah, you get a chance to interact with you've been here.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
No, not yet, not to know. I'm gonna make that happen. Yeah,
that will definitely be fun. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (33:36):
What do you feel like you can bring to this team?
And a successful do you feel like.
Speaker 8 (33:41):
You can bring?
Speaker 9 (33:42):
I think the main thing I can bring to the
table was shooting outside shooting. Yeah, that's like my main sign.
Speaker 8 (33:49):
So what's it how would you guys describe this football?
You just the high level of talent, count of reference
to but prop right, the town on this team will help.
Speaker 6 (33:59):
What's it's?
Speaker 7 (34:01):
I mean the ciling is how you know, we just
gotta move up to the potential.
Speaker 10 (34:04):
We gotta work every day, you know, really I would say,
just working every day, taking it day by day, one
staking days, that's what we say.
Speaker 9 (34:13):
Yeah, definitely, like we have all the time, but we
still gotta stake days, as coach Young says, and just
keep working and yeah, like take one step at a time.
Speaker 10 (34:22):
Who loves like the country, it's tough, but here you're
making me better, I'm making him better.
Speaker 7 (34:29):
So yeah, it's a good experience.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (34:32):
What's been your adjustment to Provo coming from overseas and have.
Speaker 4 (34:35):
You lived here so far?
Speaker 9 (34:36):
Yeah, it's been really nice. Like everyone I've met has
been super nice. Like I love the mountains. I've been
up at some dance. I just love it here. Like
there's nothing negative I could say.
Speaker 10 (34:47):
I would say, yeah, it's amazing, you know, just waking
up in the morning looking out your window and see
mountains like something you see on TV.
Speaker 7 (34:53):
But everyone has been nice. You know, I'm just I'm
just taking it all in, like, let me joint, not
a high expectation for this team.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
How does both of you how do you handle that
or talk about it or or just decide to ignore
it and move on?
Speaker 3 (35:06):
How does that work with you?
Speaker 10 (35:07):
I would say just ignoring it, just really just taking
it day by day, Like I say, you know, just
got to get better. Can't can't let the outside and
always come in. You know, you got to focus on you,
focus on the team.
Speaker 6 (35:18):
How excited are you guys to to base someone else
next week?
Speaker 8 (35:21):
Going out of Nebraska just maybe Dodds just giving me
a chance to play someone else?
Speaker 9 (35:26):
I mean very excited, Like we've been working up for
this moment and we can't wait to get a call
out there and show what we got.
Speaker 6 (35:34):
Yeah, any more questions for both of you guys? What
has it been like a lot of players come.
Speaker 8 (35:40):
From lots of different backgrounds and playing how's that been
adjusting to kind of making you, you guys, know, one.
Speaker 6 (35:45):
Team to play together.
Speaker 7 (35:48):
I would say, you know, it's cooking.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
It's been.
Speaker 10 (35:51):
It's been nice, you know, knowing that we have like
basically a brand new team. We are trying to see
what each other can do. But I feel like we build.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
We can.
Speaker 7 (36:03):
Think we've accomplished a lot in that story time we
had with each other. That's what I would say. So, yeah,
we work.
Speaker 8 (36:11):
Ask question maybe off the court to develop chemistry. So
you guys have that it's just chemistry that translate.
Speaker 7 (36:19):
We we've been bowling so far.
Speaker 10 (36:21):
We went to look on you know, we do a
little stuff outside, chill at each other's apartments, play video games.
Speaker 7 (36:26):
So we'll be on that chemistry outside of court for sure.
Speaker 2 (36:29):
Sun out on Twitch.
Speaker 4 (36:32):
All right, thanks guys, that was uh move. Davis Canard
mood Davis Jr. And Alexi on there as well. In
the post game, Brett, I'll just start with you your takeaways. Well,
the last several years we've heard foos chants that sounded
like someone was being booed.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
Obviously not. I'm curious to see how far into the
season until we get our first chance.
Speaker 1 (37:02):
Cool nickname Cool that he gets to share that with
his dad. Both Canard and Alexi are gonna be incredible
players for this team. Shout out to Jim or getting
a mention in the presser like it just goes to
show you how global Jimmer is. Jimmer's legacy lives on,
(37:24):
which is just it's incredible to think about because he
hasn't played He hasn't played NBA basketball in a number
of years, and he hasn't played college basketball and even
longer than that. So it's cool that even though jimm
Er is not necessarily having a daily impact on our
life in terms of unfortunately he didn't get to have
(37:46):
the basketball career that he wanted to have, it's cool
that he still has an effect on the game and
that kids like Alexi who are living in Austria still
they see him and that name, that basketball player that means.
Speaker 4 (38:01):
Something to them. So really cool that Jimmer got to
get that shot. Yeah, really cool, he said Vienna, right,
that's where he met the mind. Yeah, so being over there, Ay,
I think this is crazy. There's a family dinner I
go to every sunder that I call him my family.
Not I've been invited, you know, adopted in I'm always joking,
say you want to adopt a black son?
Speaker 5 (38:18):
You know.
Speaker 4 (38:18):
I hope no one takes offense at that. I'm joking
when I say that, but I bring all of that
up bred of that. The daughter's boyfriend and she's out
there in Washington, right, and his name's Gobble. I believe,
I hope I'm okay to say that. If not, the
text mean tell me, don't ever do that again. He
was wearing a BYU shirt and he's walking out off
that he's member, and someone's like, oh, Kook's right, And
(38:40):
it's just everywhere like the Church.
Speaker 3 (38:42):
BYU.
Speaker 4 (38:43):
The brand's national. That's why they're so empowerful and they
fit in so well for the Big Twelve.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
It's so funny because I think for the longest time.
Speaker 1 (38:51):
We thought, Okay, well b YU has got to get
out of the bad brand, the bad pr that the
world gives to b YU.
Speaker 2 (38:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (38:59):
And it's so funny because when you talk to these kids,
You talk to Alexi, you talk to Kennard, talking to
Sam Vanderhart and football and media availability the other day,
all these preconceived notions that we are worried that they.
Speaker 3 (39:12):
Could genuinely have because of the Internet and the world
that we live in.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
You talk to these kids and for the most part,
they don't really come with those preconceived notions. Like as
much as the world tries to do bad branding for
BYU and all of the weird myths and rumors and
all those horrible things.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
These kids who come to BYU, they're like, wait, what
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (39:34):
I don't what bad preconceived notions could I have about
this school or about this faith. So it's really cool
to see that even though it's easy for us to
sit here and think like, is this bad pr out there?
Speaker 2 (39:46):
Does this exist?
Speaker 3 (39:47):
It really doesn't.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
And BOYU is just attracting great basketball players. It's not
just oh well, we hope they don't find out about this.
It's not oh well, they're willing to overlook like they
don't they I don't see any of that negative rhetoric
that exists on the internet because kids just.
Speaker 3 (40:07):
Want to hoop. They're not coming here for an ulterior motive.
Speaker 1 (40:11):
These are just kids who want to hoop, play basketball
in a great environment with a great coaching staff, with
a guy that they believe can help prepare them for
the next level.
Speaker 4 (40:20):
One hundred percent they want to I mean, and both
of these guys are gonna fit right in and they
want to be here. I mean, think about this before
he gets to be and this is Alexi. I'm gonna
break down the profiles before we get a break. I
think it's a good idea to give the fans maybe
a little bit more. He was a U twelve judo
state champion, Like think about that. That is great and
that is crazy. Already enjoys reading, the time with the
family and election. He is a very high IQ. I
(40:42):
feel like player an individual like when you talk to him, like, oh,
this individual's very very smart and very intellectional and can
shoot the ball. He scored and double figures twenty times,
including a pair of twenty four point performances. So we're
gonna catch up with JT later. I want to ask
JT about this kid, like can he take over again?
Can he do it if he needs to?
Speaker 2 (40:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (40:59):
Or what will we see in that regard?
Speaker 4 (41:01):
Right, I'm very interested to know who will be on
the court with right he it feels like, you know,
and I say he's a combo guard and JT was
gonna give me some pushback when I say true point guard,
I mean the one of like he's not gonna be yegor,
but like what can he do whenever are because he
shoots the lights oide of the basketball.
Speaker 3 (41:17):
Check this out from three point range?
Speaker 4 (41:20):
We shot thirty six point three percent and then eighty
three point eight percent from the free throw line.
Speaker 3 (41:25):
Like he can knock down free throws.
Speaker 4 (41:26):
Everybody on this team shoots I think seventy five percent
of better from the free throw line. I told you
yesterday you gotta hit free throws in order to get deeper.
So that's just a little bit about Alecxi. And he
led Astrio to the fourth place finish in the twenty
twenty three feet but U eighteen Division B, where he
was the fourth highest score nineteen point nineteen point one
points per game.
Speaker 3 (41:45):
So he can shoot it if he needs to.
Speaker 4 (41:47):
And in that he shot forty seven point nine percent
from the field, thirty nine percent from three, and then
eighty one point five from the free throw line.
Speaker 3 (41:54):
So this key can light it up if he needs to.
Speaker 4 (41:57):
And Kevin Young said in the last segment, if you
lose track of he's like a sucker can shoot. He's
like he's most potent without the ball. So I'm not
saying Steph coury, but moving. We know guys to move
without the ball are dangerous to find. So I'm excited
to see what he's able to do. But I'm really
high on this Alexa. He's gonna play man I think
he's gonna get time.
Speaker 3 (42:14):
I think Alexi could be this team's version of Trevin Nell. Oh.
Speaker 1 (42:20):
I think they just play a very similar style, and
given what I saw him do yesterday, I think they
could play a similar on court.
Speaker 2 (42:29):
Role for this team.
Speaker 3 (42:32):
Yeah, that's a that's a good pick.
Speaker 4 (42:34):
I think bringing up the Trevor Nil kiss, Trevor Nil
will shoot the lights out of the ball as well
as did the same thing.
Speaker 1 (42:40):
And Trevin Nell was kind of the guy that for
some reason, defenses they scouted and they knew, Okay, this
guy could shoot, and then throughout the course of the game,
they'd kind of forget about him and he'd move off ball,
catch and shoot, drill it. And I saw a little
bit of that from Alexi yesterday at the Blue White game,
So I think they could both. Like I think he
could really slide into that Trevin Nell role and obviously
(43:02):
been out the exact same player. Alexi does some things
that Trevin didn't do and things of that nature. But
I think Alexi could play a similar role to Trevin
in terms of.
Speaker 3 (43:11):
The catch and shoot, getting loose guys, losing him in transition.
Speaker 4 (43:15):
Things like that one hundred percent and then let's not
forget about Canard Mood Davis junior, the son of Canard
Davis and April Smith.
Speaker 3 (43:22):
Or again he said that he was little Mood Dad's
big move. Todaego. He's a junior.
Speaker 4 (43:25):
I'm the third, so I understand how that is. I'm
the other RW three, the original oppice here first. Sorry, Rob,
even though you'll be remembered probably a little bit more.
Speaker 3 (43:32):
Remember spent the.
Speaker 4 (43:33):
Last two seasons at SIU the Selokies. He appeared in
sixty four games. He averaged ten point three points, four boards,
one point seven assists, and he shot forty four point
six percent from the field, thirty five percent from three,
and then seventy three point eight percent from the free
to line. So everybody shooting no less than seventy four
I think just about. So name the second team All
Missouri Valley Conference as a sophomore.
Speaker 3 (43:55):
That's really good. He's a junior now, I'm pretty sure
true junior.
Speaker 4 (43:57):
And then he was also a four letter winner at
Bashing High School in Saint Louis, Missouri, three star recruit
poor on three four star transfer and was ready to
number eight prospect in the state of Missouri. So it's kicking.
Hope they got a good one. I want to transition
to this though. We wanted to know is the kadem
the boob or kadem a bob? But I went to
the pronunciation guy. Now I don't know, we're about to
(44:19):
find out, but we're gonna play it so we can
honestly know what it is because it's driving me up
the wall. And I just want to make sure I'm
getting people's names are the great greg Orbell has told
us if there's one thing you can do right, it's
larne people's names. So let's hear from Kadeem himself how
his name is pronounced, so we get it right.
Speaker 2 (44:35):
Going forward, Haidem boop.
Speaker 4 (44:42):
There was okay, ha Hadim adem boop adem a boop.
Here we go again, Haidem boom boom I deem boop
okay and maybe that maybe that's the way they say
in Africa, but I think we're saying kadem but Hadim Hadem.
Speaker 3 (44:59):
Boop, however he wants me to say it. That's how. Yeah,
that's the name, Haidem boop. And if people like, why
are you saying it like that?
Speaker 4 (45:06):
We'll go online to b Hyu Cougars dot com go
to the men's basketball roster, and I'll play it one
more time for you guys.
Speaker 3 (45:12):
Third times charm. This is how you pronounce hadim.
Speaker 2 (45:15):
Boop, hademn boop.
Speaker 4 (45:20):
Maybe there's a little emitary out there like them is
very like I didn't hear it. Let's listen one more time,
said third Times Trump, but listen to them had like
them was very like, really, let me, I got the
volume turned all the way, but the ms like kind
of there, but like for like a half.
Speaker 3 (45:34):
A second, how dim boop?
Speaker 4 (45:39):
It's like they're barely I didn't boo, not not boo,
but hoo, I didn't boop. So we'll ask. But I
think if even they're saying my boop, we're on the
right track of that. But that but hadim hadem boop,
that's what it is.
Speaker 2 (45:53):
I bop.
Speaker 4 (45:54):
So one of those two, I'll talk to Tyson Jax,
who's the men's basketball communication director. Do we just want
to make sure we're getting the names right when we
say these players different tastic individuals. We don't want to
get it wrong. But we played it four times. I
think we're in the correct ballparker, so it's not Mabopi's maboo.
So there we go.
Speaker 3 (46:09):
We finally got it right there it is. We'll go
for it.
Speaker 4 (46:12):
But guys, that basketball player profile segment was brought to
you by Odion Men'swear. If you need an elevatory suit
game today, do it with a sports performance suit at
Odion Men'swear. If you want to look good, feel good
and do good, you know where to go. Let Bradon
Day and his crew take care of you. They got
four locations along the Wahsatch Front and arm Draper Rivertenant, Bountiful. Remember,

(46:33):
free shirt and a free pair of socks with that
current mission called, but you got to go to into
the four locations. Remember, if you're getting married, suit, shirt, shoes,
belt and tie all for five hundred dollars and those
that are going to maybe Sadis is coming up homecoming
problem If that's still going on dance special, you can
get a suit, shirt and tie all for three to
fifty as well, but you gotta go in store to
claim that off. Or remember when we use the discount
(46:53):
code Cridle fifteen, you'll get fifteen percent off your order
as well. We'll go to break, don't go anywhere, get
into little Cougar inside report on a flip. You're listening
to Cougar Sports right here on one O three nine
and ninety eight three.
Speaker 2 (47:05):
You were listening to Cougar Sports with Ben Krittle, and
it's time for a Cougar insider report.
Speaker 4 (47:11):
Now let's get that proprietary inside scoop on Cougar Sports
from Crittle. Welcome back to Cougar Sports right here on
one O three nine and ninety eight three. ESPN the Fan, Ronald,
the three man Weaver here, Brett always bringing a hammer
by by side Big cram on the data Aggregation, always
appreciate him. Gonna get into a little insider report. We're
gonna give you an update, maybe a little injury update,
(47:32):
who's still probable, who's still out, who's questionable for the
BYU Arizona game. But also gonna give you an update
on the weather, has the game time change. We're getting
deep here now to Cougar Sports. I don't know if
it's changing all. Brett's gonna have to give us an update.
Speaker 3 (47:46):
Brett, I think.
Speaker 4 (47:47):
Spencer Linda put out something to take us through what
has any has any game time change? Are we still
at five pm Mountain Standard time? Six pm mounts in daylight?
Speaker 3 (47:54):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (47:55):
So NWS two Son, which is the National Weather Service
for Tucson, tweet out today blood Watch in effect from
noon Saturday to five pm Monday. Abundant moisture from two
tropical systems may lead to periods of moderate to heavy
rain and isolated thunderstorms, drywashes, Low lying areas and urban
locations may see flooding.
Speaker 3 (48:15):
Never drive through flooded roads. So that's what they put
out this morning.
Speaker 1 (48:19):
Then Spencer Linton quote tweeted and said ideal football weather
with a little.
Speaker 3 (48:28):
Sarcastic emoji.
Speaker 1 (48:30):
Then from that someone responded to Spencer any word if
the Big twelve is still considering moving kick time up
to which Spencer Linton cited sources saying quote, I'm hearing
BYU and Arizona are still on for a five pm
(48:51):
local Arizona time kickoff. Things can obviously change quickly, but
it remains status quo on the original kick time. If
they were to have moved this thing, I think those
wheels probably need to start turning, And maybe they are
and we just haven't heard from. But Spencer Lintun, who's
(49:13):
on the ground there, who says connected to the TV
world as anyone can be, is saying he's saying that
he's hearing that they're still on for five pm local
Arizona kick time, Which makes me think that this thing
is not being moved. And my reason, my guess for
(49:33):
that is, Guys, it's really hard to move things like
this when you have network scheduled out, when you have
a TV schedule at it's hard to just move things
and flip things.
Speaker 3 (49:46):
So they couldn't.
Speaker 1 (49:47):
It would be really hard for them to move the
game up because that would push someone else, and they
can't just move it to ESPN Plus because there's advertisers
who have been sold on buying ads at a spurt,
a certain time and a certain quality of game. So
this game they end up getting delayed would be my guess.
(50:09):
I mean, maybe they just play in a flood. Remember
that Bears forty nine ers game from a couple years
ago where they just straight up played in a flood
in a monsoon.
Speaker 4 (50:18):
And I think as long as there's no lightning, I
do believe no, as long as they're lightning, they will
play it. They can still play.
Speaker 3 (50:24):
It's if there's lightning. They have thirty minutes after every lightning,
and it.
Speaker 1 (50:27):
Sounds like from what we're hearing, it's mostly just gonna
be flooding and a lot of rain. How that affects
the stadium, I don't know, but it clearly the people
who are on the ground there, who know the situation,
who are connected as they can be, are saying, hey,
we see the report.
Speaker 3 (50:45):
We're still good. This is the game that we're gonna play,
and this is how it's gonna go. So we will see.
Speaker 1 (50:52):
If this thing gets moved last minute. I think it's
gonna be really tough to do. But BYU could be
playing in Monsoum season, they could be play in Monsoon's season.
Thank you Breda Hammer for the update. I trust you,
and I trust mentor Linton. Look, I've worked in radio.
I've shadowed a few times. Television it's way different.
Speaker 4 (51:08):
But I know something about advertisings and sponsors that are
sold for sure, because that is definitely still a part
of radio.
Speaker 3 (51:14):
If you miss or move something, you that's yo.
Speaker 4 (51:17):
You know what? So I understand what you coming from
an that factor. I don't think that's possible. I just
am wondering, like, Okay, if the lightning's so bad, do
they just end up canceling the game? And that's my
thing is like it's the Big twelve Conference willing to
cancel the game?
Speaker 3 (51:32):
And how do you do that? Because Boy does not
play on Sundays.
Speaker 4 (51:35):
I don't think they would play this game until Sunday,
if I'm gonna be honest, Maybe I'm wrong about that.
Actually sometimes they do playing a Sunday. That's not true
in our gard, but I don't think they would maybe
want to start a half second half coming out It
might be tough. I'm not trying to speculate, and I shouldn't,
you know, be I don't want to, you know, project
of what I know and what they would do and
how they do it. I project enough in my life
(51:57):
and sometimes on this show in the segments, I don't
want to project it. But I am curious to know,
like if the lightning and it gets worse, and it
keeps getting pushed back and pushed back the deeper you
get into kickoff or get in the Sunday, Like, how
would that play out?
Speaker 3 (52:08):
When what they call it is my question? I think
they would call it maybe midnight, but I don't know.
Speaker 4 (52:12):
It was two years ago to b what you played?
Was it SUU or whatever? And they were playing was
it Arizona State or somebody or whoever? Late got delayed?
They played away? No, not the USF. You no, No,
it's not an opponent they played in twenty twenty three year.
It was an opposing opponent. But you I think SUU. Sorry,
I said to us that game got to Sorry maybe
(52:32):
that's what I'm saying, but SUU. They had played an opponent.
I believe it was Arizona State or somebody, and it
was long, intil, like deep into like Friday, Saturday or
whatever it was. Someone on the radio will know what
I'm talking about and what I can't remember particularly. I'm
trying to go off the top of my head. But
he's going to be interesting to see what happens in
that regard. But the USF game got delayed by what
an hour and a half hour? Forty five maybe longer.
Speaker 3 (52:54):
It was a long time. It was a long time.
I remember being at Barre Lake. I'm like, oh my goodness,
so but no, it's it could be.
Speaker 4 (53:01):
I think what you're looking at is this could go
from maybe a five pm kickoff to a late kickoff.
I don't know how they're gonna move it, but if
we do find out, Spencer is someone to trust. But
as of right now, still playing on five pm Mountains
Standard time.
Speaker 3 (53:13):
Yeah, Spencer is on the ground in Tucson right now.
Speaker 1 (53:16):
Chatting with him a little while ago because uh, he
was like, dude, this is perfect weather because it's stupid
hot and I said, yeah, dude, wait until it starts
raining and it's still hot, and he goes, yeah, for real,
dot dot dot.
Speaker 3 (53:33):
Georgia, Like it's raining and it doesn't cool.
Speaker 1 (53:35):
Down like like usually here when it rains it cools down,
but that's not the case everywhere. So again, Spencer's on
the ground there, and I'm assuming that'll be the guy
who will let us know when and if this thing
does get delayed. But to your point, what happens if
(53:56):
you start this game and then you just can't finish
it because of the flooding because.
Speaker 3 (54:00):
Of the storm.
Speaker 1 (54:01):
I don't know how late will they push this thing,
and then if they cancel it and they can't make
it up and then it affects standings. I'm sure they
have contingencies for this. They do, however, that is going
to be a really tough and unfortunate scenario that I
don't be anyone in the Big Twelve who has to
(54:24):
deal with this.
Speaker 4 (54:25):
Like if this was if this could cost BYU at
the title game, would that make people mad? And I
bring it up like a bealaries, like like and I
look at that far even people like run you're measures,
But this is a factor of where this it could
get the shirt.
Speaker 1 (54:38):
But I think the Big Twelve again, I think they
have enough contingencies in place. I think they could find
a way because isn't there there's a week between the
final week of the season and conference championships if I
remember correctly, because usually that's the Navy Army games. So
maybe if you had to make it up you could
play it. Then I don't really know what the answer
(55:01):
would be. But we also don't know what this storm
is gonna look like, because there's a part of me
that just wants to say, okay, well, even if they
delay it two three hours, like eventually they'll be able
to play it. Yeah, that does make you question like
the validity of the game because everybody's so slogged and down, because.
Speaker 4 (55:18):
Look, I think I think BYU is gonna be still hyped.
I think you know they're gonna stay stay through it
and not get down on it. Who's gonna want to
play it? Made this trip this This is why I
say the weather affects Arizona, and the longer you wait
to affect more Arizona than it does b a you.
The reason being you made this trip all the way
out here to be disappointing. And then the like if
you're playing eleven now we're gonna go kick them. The
kid just snott at them like you're the team that
(55:41):
had to trawl all the way. You have more to
be angry about than the home team.
Speaker 1 (55:44):
Yeah, opinion, I argue with you're more tired because you
were the guys who traveled and there.
Speaker 4 (55:50):
You could be in that regard. But I mean, we've
seen adrenaline change a lot of things with people.
Speaker 3 (55:55):
So you just don't know. The point and that is
the point is that we don't We really don't know.
Speaker 4 (55:59):
And that's the sucky part is that you just hope
that you're praying that and I've seen this before, all
supposed to rain in that, okay, Justseph Smith prayer, not
trying to be sacrilegioual like sunshine, you just hope it
more it's manageable where it's just rain. And and I've
been told by this because I'm staying with you know,
a friend of a you know, a friend's family member
down there. She had told me seven inches and now
(56:19):
four that's better. Yeah, you know, a lot better if
it could drop the you know, three and a half,
maybe three or two, just manageable for them to play.
But the biggest thing I'm worried about is that everybody
comes back healthy. That's all I care at the end
of the day is speaking of health. Let's give you
an update. This was nine pm Central time yesterday of
the injury report. Out still Josiah Phillips, you on anymore,
Marcus McKenzie, Jay, Bryan Straler, some of those guys we've
(56:40):
seen for a while, and Chay and Jojo Len Marcus
is new to the out. Doubtful Jack Kelly and Hesi
purcill I moved to doubt fi. I think they'll be
okay even without him. Questionable Enick now he wighed Tommy Proters.
I think Enoch moved to questionable. He was probable, so
maybe after practice didn't worked TP still that way, Johnack
tobeya though probable if TP can't go, and then Isaiah Glasga,
(57:01):
Miles Hall, Knacki, Takoy and then Siala a Sarah all
problem as well. If it's me, yeah, maybe you dress EENI.
If you need to a Tommy, don't really play them though,
and then play everybody else. Maybe it's problem. I don't
even think you need to play Jet if I mean
not Jack Isaiah, because Jack is doubtful. If it's the
weather's that bad, don't play Isaiah, like, don't put a
guy out that is already dinged up, that does not
(57:23):
feel in that way that can reaggravate something in that regardable.
Speaker 3 (57:26):
We'll see. But that's a little injury report update as well.
Nothing is changed.
Speaker 4 (57:29):
We'll find out tonight nine pm Central time, eight pm
Mountain time if anything has changed, But we had to
give you just a Thursday update one last time before
we go to break. But guys, that inside our report
was brought to you by Big o'tiers and an American fork.

Speaker 4 (57:56):
They're located at seven forty eight East Stay Road in
