Speaker 1 (00:00):
What coaches are really saying during their press conferences. Well,
Ben Krittle is here. They'll break it all down in
a reading between the line segment. Ben breaks down the
latest sound from BYU coaches and players right now on
Cougar Sports.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Welcome back to Cougar Sports. Here one O three, nine
and ninety had three ESPN the fan, Ronald, the three
man weaver, Brett always bringing the hammer by my side.
Vic Graham on the data aggregation. Gonna get into a
little reading between the line segment. Brent Brennan post game
Sound'm gonna play a couple of clips from him. This
is he is now what owing to against Kilani and
Kilanie is now five and zero in the last five
meetings against Arizona BYU now thirteen and eleven all time

(00:38):
in the meetings between the two schools. So a double
overtime win is nothing to be shy about. They celebrated it.
But now you're moving on to Utah. But gonna get
into some of the sound clips. He was not happy, Brett.
He was not happy in this postgame whatsoever. He was
upset rightfully, so the handshake, he was respectful to Colannie,
but I know he probably wasn't happy. Maybe he's thinking

(00:59):
should they have gone for you know, uh with nineteen seconds.
I still think that was the right decision because if
you turn the ball over, it just all could have
been bad.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
But you never know at the end of the day.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
But I think you gotta do it's best and protect
the football, give your team a chance. If you don't
give your team a chance, that's what will give you
get you in trouble. But what can you also need
to give a chance is Orthroposo Utah dot com. Guys,

hundred five three and eight for an apployment, or visit

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Let's get into his opening statement.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
This was Brent brennan opening statement post game following the
double overtime loss to by you on Saturday.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
I love, first of all fans stood lay and.

Speaker 5 (01:54):
Job it was awesome.

Speaker 6 (01:55):
Uh you know, it's awesome here and over time, just
just the energy to provide his own zoo was on
fire once again, and so.

Speaker 5 (02:04):
Many of those young people stayed through the rain and
the bad leather. So I just want to say thanky
all of them. You know, when I look at this
game and just coming right off the field down, you.

Speaker 4 (02:15):
Know, to me and I look at it, we just
sat on the first place team in the big twelve
or four orders and two.

Speaker 5 (02:20):
Over times and the number back down and we didn't
get a result along but those kids playing their hearts out,
and that is something to be excited about. Now. The
goal is to it and I understand that. But we're
a better football team.

Speaker 4 (02:37):
And we're happy over this season and we have a
lot to over good.

Speaker 5 (02:40):
But we also had a lot to do over about.
And so when I look at this thing and going
into it, we knew it was gonna be a physical battle.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
You know.

Speaker 5 (02:48):
That was one of those things that we talk about all week.
We knew our effort was gonna have to be redline.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
And you know the thing that is so hard about
it is that we didn't get it done.

Speaker 5 (02:59):
And so you know, that's something that you know, we'll
talk about redline accountability. That starts with me, and that's everybody.

Speaker 4 (03:05):
In the facility, and so we're going to work on
fixing those things and you're ready for the next one.
But I thought there were roans there where we know
was playing great football and we were making.

Speaker 7 (03:15):
Plays and we found some young game you know, people
haven't done ball on them like that.

Speaker 5 (03:20):
I thought it was possive.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
And then also, like you know, I thought our defense
played retailed off. You know, had those scores for two
quarters that hadn't happened in thirty plus quarters.

Speaker 5 (03:30):
So there's a lot of things to be excited about it. Obviously,
it's still pretty fresh and pretty raw.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
So like that's the that's the hard part from you
right now standing up here in front of everybody.

Speaker 5 (03:38):
But I'm proud of this football team. I think we're
making progress. I'm sick about.

Speaker 4 (03:44):
The results nine, but I believe in these players, I
believe in these coaches, and I'm excited about what's.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
Kind of in the next couple of weeks.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
I was re Brennan's opening statement a couple of things there.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
I know, if if he didn't play bad, I don't think,
I know, he's twenty five to forty five for CHARGI
of nineteen yards, two touchdowns. They did throw im t
do Isaiah Glaskar fifty six completion percentage is at a
quarterback rating of one zero one hundred and six point seven.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Excuse me.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
They ran the ball thirty four times for one hundred
and sixty four yards four point of yards on the ground,
and they also had that Tuddy as well. Leading running
back went for thirteen of ninety and a touchdown average
and almost ches right around seven yards per carry.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
So I thought offensively, yeah, I agree with Brent.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
They played good three hundred eighty three total yards of offense.
Their third down conversions probably what hurt him for seventeen
really couldn't get off the field.

Speaker 8 (04:32):
BA.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
You brought the pressure in the second half. They did
a phenomenal job. Only ten points adding the overtime. So
early five periods ten points, excuse me, the extra period
three points, they had the field goal.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
But five periods twenty seven points. It is the most.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
But you had an extra I guess you could say
two quarters to play, not really.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
But you're adding that in and overtime.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
In that regard, I liked it what the BAU defense
did to shut him down. Arizona did come with some
fight that Randolay that came out. They blanked BYU in
the second quarter, in a third quarter, everybody was blanked.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
It was just Ja Hill turning it up.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
But honestly, you gotta give Arizona a lot of credit
even though that they didn't win, not the result that
they won it. Rem Brennon said that we played a
team that's tied for first of the Big Twelve. To
do that, to lose to him in doublet when you
were this close you can build on top of it
is just how do you get your locker room to respond. Look,
this Arizona team is probably gonna be They're easily going
to be in the top half of the conference when

(05:24):
it's all said and done, and they may be in
the top four when it's all said and done.

Speaker 9 (05:28):
I think it's very likely that they could be up
there with the BYU, Texas Tech, Iowa State, and Utah.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
I think they could be there.

Speaker 9 (05:35):
In fact, they may be better than Iowa State when
the season's all said and done. We will see. But
I agree with you, Arizona played a great game. This
is not one that you should hold your head down
for because they played really good. That interception you bring
up with no Fafida is essentially an arm punt because
it was on I think it was either fourth down
or third down, and it was on fourth downh alright, right,

(05:55):
and Isaiah Glasker catches it at like the five to
ten yard lining somewhere in there, Penny, So you just
you really just pin them deep. It didn't have a
major outcome on the game. And then the run game
was awesome. You think about that fourth and one ended
up going for a thirty yard touchdown. Yeah, their run
game when Cianu Town of Vasa was out of the game,
they took serious advantage. Shout out to them.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Love the run game and him not being there.

Speaker 9 (06:16):
So look, this is one that Arizona won't be proud
of because it's a loss, but it's certainly not when
they should be ashamed of. It was a great game
by two of the best teams in the Big Twelve.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Yeah, and there's no moral victories, no doubt, But I mean,
you were four to six on fourth down, right, that's
a really high completion percentage against a bou defense.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
Grinted.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
They're a little banged up, but again it's who's available,
that's what you have to go by.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
There's no name in between. And then you mentioned an interception.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Bill you got zero points off of that turnover, so
essentially you pin him aside of the deep and then
they had to go punt in that regard. You mentioned
this earlier and didn't get into it, but I want
to get into it now. The drives of the game necessarily,
Vince Poll today, I look at this more of that
I'm going to answer it because they didn't really get
the chance to in the first hour. I think the
defense has really been the one to step up to
get a double t win without your best pass rusher,

(07:02):
Jack Kelly, and I think cougination and people and I
hope this was for the national media. I said, Glass
is great, So without Jack Kelly, you're starting to see, okay,
b Y, you can't get home and this is nothing.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
Again.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
People think I try to pin against the two. I say,
it's a match made of heaven. It's like last year,
you need Chase and you need Darius.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
You need both. One is not good out the other
take advantage absolutely.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
And when that attention got taken away and people say, oh,
well we got Kiano Tonavasa. That's what a lily had.
A fan tell me, well, Ron, you don't have to
worry about it. We got Kianum. First of all, it's
not weeds b Yu. You're just there. But if you
want to go for that, sure. Anyway, the point is
they got Kiano Tonavasa. Okay, what happened when he went
out the game, So you need all of your best
players to be there. But again, I said the defense,
because check this out. They come out a halftime, they

(07:46):
get the I N T. Right, then they turn it
over on downs. They punt again, and then they got
the I n T that led to the touchdown. Right
said it was so close, but that was even a
fourth down. Then they punt, then they take a knee,
they kicked the FI and they turn it over on downs.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
So that's what it was.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
So you're telling me that really honestly, with the overtime,
so you want to eliminate the overtime because we know
you have to go for the field goal if you
don't tie, So really, just the touchdowns so they give
up ten points. I think what Jay Hill was able
to do. Honestly, you add thirty minutes. Let's say forty.
Let's just say, you know, that's what it is. Probably
thirty five, we're going to be honest, So thirty five
extra minutes. You're playing, maybe forty extra minutes from the second,

(08:25):
from the third quarter to overtime, and they only score ten.
I think they did a phenomenal job. I thought they
limited them really well. Their longest drive was the downs play.
They went fourteen plays seventy one yards and turned it
over on downs. And I said that if Arizona doesn't
get points on this drive, it will come back and
halt them.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
It definitely did. I know they would probably regret that.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
Now.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
The touchdown was ten plays for seventy four US.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
But again, you're right there on fourth downs, so close
you don't know what happened even if they would have
got the first down and would have stopped them. Again,
I'm giving all credit to Joe. Move on from it,
as we discussed it. Enough, no more tangents. Let's go
to number two. How do you overcome the fourteen point
deficit by not coming away way with the win?

Speaker 4 (09:01):
I think obviously it is incredibly disappointed. Right we're down
a listening points to make some players were.

Speaker 8 (09:06):
Out of the back.

Speaker 4 (09:07):
We come out of the weather delay and really take
in and get and well, you know, the test people
pleather players.

Speaker 5 (09:15):
That happened, there's still the reporter let the football players.
So there was so much football level player and I
thought our team did a pretty job of answering the call.
And you know, in that moment, the lahrmard is at
the end of the game.

Speaker 6 (09:26):
We had a chance to end it offensively, or had
a chance to end the defensively, and neither side of
the ball did.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
Yeah, but he brings up a good point.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
They had a chance to end it both ways, and
they did an offense and defense, so equal account of
bait there. I want to apologize, Brett, you brought this
up to me. We apologize that the sound is so bad.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
This is what we were given. This is what we
had to cut up. This is not us. If it
was us, you know, we try to have it better.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
You guys know, I try to put the mics in front,
have maybe even a mic on myself, asked the questions,
just to have the quality of sound. We want to
give you guys, the best type of you know, show possible,
the best type of audio.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
But this is what was given to us.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
We apologize that is so bad. So if the questions
may seem difficult to audio, please forgive us. We'll try
to get better sound in the future. But that's what
was giving us to us by the athletic department. Moving
on to number three, though you had one touchdown through
five red zone trips, what was the story there, Coach,
I think it's a comination.

Speaker 5 (10:16):
Football team, and I think it's also a combination of
the executing on the level of YouTube.

Speaker 4 (10:23):
We'll get down to reside and obviously out opportunities for
a touchdown over Timon's call back.

Speaker 5 (10:29):
You know those season you can't do so as you
can't do football.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
Games like that was Yeah, he's right, that holding penalty
really killed him. It was a great run.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Running back got off to the next level, but you
did hold, and whenever you don't, and we've heard this
before from many of former offensive linemen experts, when you
don't move your feet, that's what causes you to hold.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
He is right.

Speaker 9 (10:51):
They did have a lot of opportunities to get this
thing done and it just didn't go their way. It didn't,
but this is not unique to the University of Arizona.
Remember this is a conversation we had a couple of
weeks ago. Is BYU struggling in the red zone? Why
can't they score in the red zone? Like this is
not just an Arizona problem, It's not just the BYU problem.
Here's the math of it. The field gets smaller, you

(11:12):
have less ground that you have to cover. Therefore it's
easier to keep guys out. To the credit of BYU,
there were times where I was a little worried how
much Arizona was able to drive down the field. But
when you hear a stat like that that they get
that many trips and they only are able to score
that one touchdown in red zone trips. And for those

(11:34):
who are a little confused, they did score other They
did score that other touchdown, but that was not in
the red zones.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
That's what we're not counting it in this conversation.

Speaker 9 (11:41):
But BYU, when it mattered, came up with big time
stops and the red zone defense again showed up, showed out,
And we continue to talk about the depth that showed
up for this BYU team that when you're losing guys,
it's hard to replicate that, and they certainly did.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
Yeah, it's hard to rep Okay, the no doubt. Let's
keep moving on. Now, let's go to number four. What
was the thought process to go for it on fourth
down and not take the field goal early in the game.

Speaker 5 (12:08):
Playing good football team?

Speaker 6 (12:09):
Now, I feel like, you know, I like toward defense
is playing in time, and so when your those scenes
are a little bit, it's a combination of analytics and
combination of field and so he also saw us.

Speaker 5 (12:21):
Benefits from going forward, coming forth down almostly rocking the game.
So you know that's the that's the hard work about it.
If you get it, everyone's like yay. If you don't, think,
one's like, what are you doing?

Speaker 2 (12:33):
He's not wrong. Everyone yay he did it. When you
get it, you're a terrible coach. It really is a
bang bang. It come down to your personnel, play call personnel,
and you know the BA defense is playing well. So
I'm not gonna get on Brent Brennan in that regard.
I thought he did the best he could. He called
a phenomenal game, and then when let his O season,
DC's work. So people that are mad about that don't

(12:53):
know what to tell you. Look, he's exactly right. You're
four to six. You're four to six in that regard.
So obviously, out of the six times as you went,
you converted more than you didn't, So I think he
did a.

Speaker 3 (13:03):
Good job in that regard.

Speaker 9 (13:04):
This is another question where he starts the answer with
we played against a really good football team tonight. BYU
played a very good game, so much so that Brent
Brennan has now given BYU credit three times throughout this
postgame presser because he really is acknowledging this is a
good football team. He said coming in, this is a

(13:24):
top ten, top eight defense. Now he's saying, look, this
is a team that could probably finish at the top
of the Big twelve, maybe win the whole thing.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
We will see. BYU is a good football.

Speaker 9 (13:33):
Team and they have earned and demanded the respect of
Arizona and Brent Brennan.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
They definitely have for sure, and he's given it to
him no doubt. You go in and you get a
win like that, you can all you can do is
credit number five. You had time and possession in both halves.
What was the consideration there on taking a shot?

Speaker 5 (13:51):
Maybe all those situations are incredibly different. They're not the same.
Just because twenty second year at the end of the
first time, we don't get the ball on a hot time.

Speaker 4 (14:02):
Yeah, so there's no reason for us to take a shot,
but nowhere risk turn it over.

Speaker 5 (14:08):
Let them be in positioned, swim the field, go around
before the half, right at get of the game same
day and knowing the right they're going to play. Career prevents.
It's very really hard to compute ball because we're going
to draw aage. We're gonna have to fly the top
on the unbrella on top of the covers, and so
that at that moment, although let's go wining it over.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
Time, sometimes you have to, unfortunately take ELS's media members.
I haven't asked the best question. Sometimes to ask bad questions.
We played this because you have to be honest. Our
job is just to say it is not a good question.
You have to understand if they turn the ball over
there and I get it in nineteen seconds a one
time out, what could possibly happen with the conditions. He's

(14:48):
gonna get ripped for that he is and you don't
want to do that. So I thought it was the
right move to go in overtime, and with the way
their defense had started to play in the second time,
you shut them out for two and.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
A half quarters.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Like I said that last moment, like no, Like I
think anybody that says no, they should have gone.

Speaker 9 (15:01):
For it, you're crazy. There was a part of me
that wondered, will they take a shot here? In fact,
my wife Jayden even asked me. She's like, why are
they kneeling the ball? And the explanation was exactly what
Brent Brennan just said. Look, will Farren can kick. You're
already in his field goal range if you turn this
thing over. And weird things happen at the end of games. Certainly,

(15:25):
weird things happen when your weather is bad. You turn
the ball over before you get to the fifty. It's ballgame.
And look, you're taking shots because they're not worried about
you getting chunk plays. I don't even know that chunk plays.
Frankly should have. I guess we didn't hear the question asked,
but that was part of the question. Is like going
for chunk plays. There's no chunk plays. You're either going

(15:47):
end zone or you're getting a They're not worried about
you marching ten twenty yards down the field.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
They'll give you that.

Speaker 9 (15:53):
Yeah, they're sitting over top saying if you try to
go any further, which is what you need, then we
will take it from you. Will already be in our
field goal range, will kick it and win it. So
I don't know that that's a question that I would
have asked. I will say I have a list of
plenty of dumb questions that I've asked, Like mine came
while I was on television and ing interviewing coaches.

Speaker 3 (16:13):
So like that's a little bit worse.

Speaker 9 (16:14):
Yeah, it's even worse, Like neither you are pretending we
don't ask bad questions.

Speaker 3 (16:19):
That wasn't a great question. And I don't blame Brent
Brendan for responding the way that he did and the
do I in that regardless, move on, let's keep it going.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
Number six coach, Uh, Chris Hudson and other receivers had
big days. How would you evaluate the wide receiver room.

Speaker 5 (16:35):
Real positives? You know, you know, viously cares bet on
thet there's some of your stuff. It was great to
see him on the ball with physicality and to play
man capable of and then uh, you know, Chris Hudson
is great to see him get.

Speaker 7 (16:50):
Going, you know, and I think he's also got some
yourself slow him returning him and through all the season,
both guys and I've drawn my oh, Darius, that's the
playmate that we know need.

Speaker 5 (17:01):
Be and I for more of such no bowl.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
Yeah, Chris Huston had a great game.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
Nine receptions, one hundred and six yards catches is crazy,
nine kinds of crazy on fifteen targets by the way,
longa fifteen. So hey, you got to give credit where
credit is due. He played a phenomenal game. That's exactly
what they wanted to see. They have been a little
bit dinged up here and there, but they did a
phenomenal job. So the wide receiver room, there's a reason
he spread it out again. Just want to remind people.
He threw to one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight,

(17:26):
nine different receivers once again. So spreading the ball out
is no if a feedd a no doubt. Last one, coach,
before we let you get up out of here, how
do you prevent this loss from turning into another one?

Speaker 5 (17:36):
And to me, like, it's getting back for work, it's
getting back for red line, it's getting back to the
things and got us off through the four on. Sorry,
you know it's as well. Kags the Champson even under
a ten team the country. I never didn't do it,
but we're right here. Knock on the door, you know
what I mean.

Speaker 6 (17:50):
And so you know what, that's just hard as the
Knight was.

Speaker 5 (17:55):
To make his law possive in that game. And we
need to be excited about that too. Awesome and we should.
But you should be excited about awesome.

Speaker 4 (18:05):
Doctor.

Speaker 5 (18:05):
We still to total one of most physical team in
our office and slugged it out and sell time.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
He's right, you should be happy.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
Don't be upset about the way you guys fought because
you could have rolled over after the fourteen points.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
You did not. You slugged it out. But yeah, bp
O two in that regard. But that was your read
between the.

Welcome back Cougar Sports one O three nine and ninety

We were here, Brett always bringing the hammer by my side.
Gonna get into a little Cougar inside of report, Gonna
get into the Ciale as Sarah post game sounds. Ciale
had himself a day, good game, stepped up while Jack
Kelly was out.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
Isaiah Glasker did play. Isaiah had himself a game.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
I mentioned this in the first hour, but very impressed
with Isaiah because when you get a rough penalty call,
you could do two things. You can respond well that
you could fold run, you know, with your tail, tug
between your legs. And number sixteen got mad. He got
an interception. Smack no if if he did play after
smacking the linebackers made him very very mad. Siala had
sixteen total tackles, six solo, ten assisted, and had a

(19:51):
tackle for loss. He also had a pass breakup. Gotta
give him credit for that too, was in coverage he
got his hand on the ball. Gonna hear from the
star line. I'm backer here momentarily. But what I loved
was the Richard sophomore or the product out of tim
View High School. Isaiah and Jack get a lot of
credit rightfully, so good players both going to be drafted.

Speaker 3 (20:10):
But this is where Siale reminded you.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
And I had a chance to, you know, see his
dad afterwards, and I dapped his dad up and you know,
showed us to love. You know, he saw me first,
approaching me and we talked and I just straight up
told him, say, hey, I love the game that Siale had.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
He played phenomenal.

Speaker 2 (20:27):
Grateful that he reminded people who he is and that
he's there because lots of times I think people forget
about number fifty four. I had a chance to catch
up with them last week's shot out to the BAU
communications department and allowing us to get that. But this
is a guy that's been a problem. He's played well
against Arizona and I can't remember if he was a three,
three or a four star, but Siali Sarah can definitely

(20:47):
ball out, don't don't get it twisted. So he stepped
up big time. I think he'll even mention that to
you as well. But this cougaran side report. They're always
brought to you by big OD Tires in American Fork.
If you're looking for a hard working, honest cost transparent
that's also a big byu FA, you need to hit
up our guy, Ryan Eldris.

Speaker 3 (21:04):
That's right. It's not just tires, just the one stop shop.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
They do oil changes, engine replacements, bad covers, tent batteries,
windows shields, you name it. They've gotten me a new
windows shield. I go to get my oil change. I
went to a different mechanic and nothing ever got fixed.
And nothing things kept getting broken, Nothing just seemed to
be fixed. I'm like, hey, I just fixed this issue,
why is it not getting fixed? And Ryan is taking
care of me for a decent amount of time. Now
let him take care of you. That located at seven

(21:28):
forty at East State Roaded American Fork, Utah. So give
them a call to schedule appointment. Eight zero one six
nine two three seven five seven. That's eight zero one
six nine two three seven five seven. When you mentioned me, Kriddle,
you'll get the VIP products, VFP service, VP Discover demand.
It has been what I always say. Let him know
that he'll censure, he'll take care of you. A big
o tires an American Fork. All right, let's get into

(21:48):
the CLA A Sarah sound. I was there present as well.
Hit CLA with the preguntas. We're gonna hit him as
well with them right now. Sili number one, how did
you guys keep the energy and belief that being down
ten points in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 10 (22:05):
Going into uh, going into this week our game last week,
we our sideline was kind of a dead and we
saw that, and so coming into this game, we knew
how to be more juice and so we get there
saying that if if you're not juicelessly, uh, you're useless.
And so our our sideline had that h had that
mentality going in and just keeping up the morales were

(22:25):
going through this game.

Speaker 1 (22:27):
Now.

Speaker 2 (22:27):
Kalani mentioned this in the first hour of the show
when we heard things about the post games sound about
K Pop saying that the sideline guys were taken off
and they weren't celebrating.

Speaker 3 (22:36):
There was no energy.

Speaker 2 (22:37):
I thought that was pretty impactful that the clips that
they showed in film where you guys aren't celebrating, Kalana says,
I even myself wasn't, you know.

Speaker 3 (22:44):
And I think we had to have different energy. And
you saw that.

Speaker 2 (22:46):
You saw the Jonathan Cabayez get hyped, Tommy Prass was
getting hyped. You saw a bunch of dudes, a Skufuzi,
you saw Buja like he is, a bunch of guys.
The entire sideline was getting hyped. Assistance grad, assistants, letter
your name. Everybody on the sideline was hype for Preston Rex.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
Look at that.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
Go back and look at that video. Preston Rex's you know,
I think fifteen yard game dudes were getting up. And
I went back and I looked at the sideline from
West Virginia because I was curious to see if that
was right. And it was they didn't get up. There
wasn't any energy. Brad, I was surprised by that, but
I mean that's I guess a part of football. Sometimes
you have that. But a lot of people were just
I don't want to say tone death, but they were
just maybe two locked into the game, but they weren't

(23:25):
getting hype for their boys, so they brought the energy.

Speaker 3 (23:28):
And you heard it from cla if you don't have
any juice, you're useless. I'm like, wow, cutthroat, that's an
interesting quote. I haven't heard that one before.

Speaker 9 (23:35):
But yeah, I mean, look, sometimes that happens because you're
so zoned in. Sometimes that happens because the nerves get
you pent up a little bit.

Speaker 3 (23:42):
But the way I think to expel.

Speaker 9 (23:44):
Those nerves is to get crazy, get loud, be hyping
people up. And we saw that and heard that a
lot during those first two games. I remember that was
the question. I swear it was like every media availability like,
what's it like getting hype for your teammates on the sidelines.
And look, I'm sure the weather played a big role there,
the fact that they're traveling there on the road, then

(24:04):
they get the delay.

Speaker 3 (24:06):
I'm sure there was a lot of energy.

Speaker 9 (24:08):
Spent in places it didn't need to be, just given
the situation and the weather and all of that. So
it makes you wonder how this game would have been
different had they had that energy on the sideline.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
Would that have played into the on the field product.

Speaker 9 (24:22):
Doesn't matter because they came away with the win anyway,
but that it will be something that I'm sure they'll
fix going forward because.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
That energy is something that is a massive identity to
this team.

Speaker 9 (24:32):
I think it'll be a big point of emphasis going
forward because it'll it's gonna help them a lot in
coming games.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
You never gonna need it on Saturday, I can tell
you that for sure, sir. If you don't have it
on Saturday, I don't know what to tell you. See
and Robberie game, you're gonna need everybody to be turned up,
for sure. Lavelle's gonna be rock. And I can guarantee
you that Number two, when you talk about the mentality,
what was your mindset knowing Jack Kelly was the game
time decision.

Speaker 8 (24:56):
I just gotta just gotta step up, you know.

Speaker 10 (24:59):
You know this game had a lot of ups and downs,
specially at thumb the depth chart wise, we had a
lot of players go out and new people step in,
and you know, we brought those players in for a reason.
You know they we had the utmost trust in our
brothers who are on that field today, and no matter
who it was, but we all know this, next man up,
and we just got to do our job.

Speaker 2 (25:21):
Got to do your job, next man up and tell
you I gotta step up. He took pride in that
I got to step up, and he did step up,
no doubt, no that I ainted that in the last segment,
you know, saying, hey, just just wait for it, SALLU,
we'll mention it. And he says, we got those players
for a reason. Literally they did.

Speaker 9 (25:36):
And it's funny because a lot of times we come
away from the game and the only person we talk
about from Saturday is bear Bach, L J. Martin, Isaiah Glasker,
Jack Kelly, the usual suspects. What's awesome about this game is, look,
bear Bach is Big twelve Freshman of the Week again,
by the way, fourth I think total.

Speaker 5 (25:56):
L J.

Speaker 9 (25:56):
Martin is Big twelve Offensive Player of the Year. But
you know who we're talking about out We're talking about
the Ayahs of the world. We're talking about the Kyle
Safar tuks we're talking about Raider de Mooni because there's
so many guys who contributed to this win in a
massive way that deserve a lot of credit, and they
contribute to wins every week.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
I don't need to misspeak.

Speaker 9 (26:17):
But they don't always get the credit because guys like
LJ and Bear sometimes.

Speaker 3 (26:23):
Just because they they're the main guys, they're they're the guy.

Speaker 9 (26:26):
It's so cool that we get to talk about these
guys and give them a lot of credit because they've
deserved it and they've earned it.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
Yeah, they definitely earned it, and everybody earned their strips
on Saturday. If you didn't believe, you're definitely gonna be
a believer now and believes in this depth. It wasn't
even a question. But do you feel the depth was
tested after everyone that went out?

Speaker 10 (26:47):
Yeah, it was I wouldn't say tested because we have
we have trusting the guys to stepped in and so
you knew that they were gonna do their job.

Speaker 8 (26:54):
We're gonna do our job and we're gonna get after it.

Speaker 10 (26:55):
So we're able to play a physical game up until
the second overtime, were able to get that win.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
See how they says trusted. The team may trust everything,
but the coaching staff is different.

Speaker 3 (27:05):
Though.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
I'm going to give a little bit of a you know,
push back and say, yes, you may trust the guys,
but there are coaches that trust certain guys more.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
And if you're on the field, that means that they
trust you.

Speaker 2 (27:13):
Now, there are times where, depending maybe due the injuries,
you have to play certain guys. But they went out
and got a whole bunch of guys that they trust,
so they don't have to maybe have someone out there
that they don't in that regard. Number four s sixteen
total tackles for you on Saturday, describe how this game
was for you personally.

Speaker 8 (27:30):
It was all right, you know, it was good. I
could have more.

Speaker 10 (27:34):
There's opportunities I should have I should have set up
to the plate, but unfortunately of them, I made some mistakes.

Speaker 8 (27:41):
And I'll get better on that on my part. And
so going into this next week.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
He every wan who hears how math someone is ask
him that type of question. It was a good question,
by the way. I don't want to make it seem
like it wasn't. He played well, But the play he's
talking about is the touchdown. That's what he's talking about
I made some mistakes, then I'll get better. He rather
have maybe ten tackles and stop that guy from going
to the house, then have sixteen lead the way and

(28:06):
let that guy go to the house. I guarantee if
you ask a player that, if you would ask him
off record, that's what he would say, because his mentality
is I got to make every plane you're not going
to Sometimes you do have games, but every game you
might not be able to. That's a part of it.
You're gonna make mistakes, and he did. But that's the
player that sticks out. I can tell any energy and
I know exactly what she's talking about. I do want
to give credit for this because a lot of people
might not know this, and those that were there will

(28:28):
see this because the cameras weren't on. SIALI is Sarah,
shout out to him. Very humble young man. Peter Sarah
is a great individual. I haven't met his wife, but
I guarantee his wife is a wonderful individual. It's a
good family. I can tell you good Clay. He shook
every member's hands.

Speaker 3 (28:42):
When he walked into the room of the media.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
Yeah, when he came in, he went around, he said,
thank you for being here. Thank you being Hey, how
you doing. Hey, good to see you guys again. Hey,
thank you, Like went around and made it an effort
like just makes you want to give a nod to
that person his mother and father. Hey, you did a
really good.

Speaker 3 (29:00):
You didn't need to do that. There's no reason for
him to do he's big and bad. He's I don't
ever remember anyone doing that because players don't have to
do that. Bro, he does not do that. Like, we're
grateful to be here to interview you. You don't have
to come and show love to us. You don't have
to do that.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
I was very impressed with this kid, and I know
the type of man here that he is. The individual
good family you can tell you talk about a good
individual's peacemakers. Well, the six foot three, two hundred and
forty five pounds Richard Sophomatter Provo definitely is good man.

Speaker 3 (29:34):
You don't have to do that. Guy sometimes is walking
to do that.

Speaker 2 (29:36):
But for the fact that he went around and shook
everybody's sends Arizona BYU or ESPN to do that before
he sat down said a lot to me, showing the
upmost of respect. So I was very impressed by him.
Good individual. I just wanted to highlight that really quickly.
Get back to the sound number five. Can you speak
to the atmosphere you guys had on the road.

Speaker 8 (29:57):
Hey, it helps us a lot.

Speaker 10 (29:59):
You know, the rock travels well, we all know that,
and uh, just the just the atmosphere that coming in,
you know, them them cheering b YU to overshadow all
of the other areason.

Speaker 8 (30:10):
The fans in in that stadium was amazing and feeling
like no other. So it was good.

Speaker 10 (30:14):
And I love the Rock. I love you guys so much.
If they're watching, I mean, I thank you. I thank
all for for for traveling with us.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
We thank the oh God for the Rock.

Speaker 2 (30:26):
I'm gonna get probably your chastised for that one, but
I meant he said thank THEE and he said, I'm
trying to. I'm trying to trying to put a twist
on it and be funny. Uh, some people might get offended.
I apologize if you're offended by that and not trying to.
But no, seriously, you know, thank the Rock, Thank the Kugarnation.
The fans that traveled there were you know, some people
like Ronald Scugernation.

Speaker 3 (30:42):
No, the Rock was there.

Speaker 2 (30:43):
There were students there, There were there were students there
in attendance. There's a bunch of cougarnation and it does
travel well, It really doesn't. He's very grateful for that.
And it got loud of b yu chants up in there.

Speaker 8 (30:53):
It really did.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
You could hear I heard the b yu versus U
of a chance. The next one l A, how difficult
is it to contain Noah Fafita.

Speaker 8 (31:02):
Yeah, yeah, it's he's a His capability is top notes.

Speaker 10 (31:07):
Our coaches, our coaches told us that and we had
and we knew that going into this game and containing
him into the in the pocket and collapsing the pocket,
what's part of our game plan today? You know we're
able to do it, uh to an extent. You know,
there there's always you can always do better. There's always
room for improvement.

Speaker 4 (31:24):
You know.

Speaker 8 (31:24):
He can never say stagnant and so yeah, he.

Speaker 3 (31:28):
Is tough to contain.

Speaker 2 (31:32):
And I mean it is even in overtime he gets
outside the pocket to the outside, I'm like, go down,
go down. And you know, I shouldn't be upset because
it's being a smaller guy when people have to chase you,
it's pretty funpresent one hundred percent, so I shouldn't be
bad as to let of represent.

Speaker 3 (31:48):
I can say this right. It was tough.

Speaker 2 (31:50):
People would hit you and you bounce right off, and
you know, I remember playing football with that.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
And even in rugby like go down, it's like no,
you don't give up.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
So I love it's not about the size the dog
and the fighters, about the size of the fighting dog.
And know if if he had some fight, no doubt
Bau has bigger fight.

Speaker 3 (32:05):
And he said it.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
The coaching staff, you know, paardis like we knew we
had to pressure him, contain him well, and I felt
like for the most part they did. No one stood
in the pocket and took some hits and through the
ball he ran a lot more than I thought he would.
I was very surprised the willingness to step up in
the pocket bread as much as he did. But hey,
sometimes when you don't want to take them hits, but
by you definitely was laying the wood on everybody that

(32:26):
came through the guards of the tackles that have tried
to run to the outside.

Speaker 3 (32:29):
So he's difficult to contain and did a good job.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
And now they're two and zero against Know if it
is specifically that might be the most elusive quarterback that
they face, And a lot of people were like, I know,
Utah Fan's gonna be met. Well, Rod, I'm talking about
you know, you know Devin's better. You know, I'm not
saying run ability. I'm talking about a loosiveness to escape away.
Like he might be the most elusive quarterback in the

(32:52):
conference where you say Patrick mahomes as of running away
from you, and it's hard to track him down in
a regard because you would think he would go down.
So I don't know, I just feel watching him in person,
watching him on the sideline and overtime run, I'm like, he, yeah,
he can get away.

Speaker 3 (33:07):
Given the hits that he took.

Speaker 9 (33:10):
Even though we know that the Isaiah Glasker one wasn't
rough in the pass or anything like that, that's that
was a monster hit. I mean, he got the ball
rocked out because he got hit so hard, and he
got hit hard by Keanu, And despite taking massive shots
in this game, he never allowed his mental timer to waiver.

(33:32):
And you saw that a couple times where they implemented
just the three man rush and they didn't super get
home with it, but they did a similar thing with
Kaden Salter, where after hit him a couple of times,
they rushed three because they just figured that his mental
clock would cause him to push himself outside the pocket
when he didn't need to be Credit to Noah Fafida,
he didn't go outside the pocket if he didn't have to.

(33:54):
He stood in there and was able to get a
lot of extra time by actually not escaping because because
he knew he had the numbers on the line.

Speaker 3 (34:02):
No Fitt did a really great job in this game,
did a.

Speaker 2 (34:05):
Really great job. Got to give credit where credit is
doing it. You sling the football, no doubt.

Speaker 3 (34:09):
Let's move on. You saw the trainers. We saw that
the trainers were looking at you. In the third quarter.

Speaker 10 (34:16):
What happened, Uh, I just got a little got a
little banged up, you know how. He had to catch
my breath for a little bit. And uh, but it
was good. I got came back out.

Speaker 8 (34:26):
Of it, so it was good.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
Got a little banged up. That happens, nothing to it.
Sometimes you lose your breath. A lot of BA prayers
have had the win knocked out of him the last
couple of weeks. That's what happens when you're playing a
physical ball game, no doubt. Let's get on to number
eight here. What does this win do for you guys
going into the week against Utah.

Speaker 8 (34:46):
Uh, it's good. You know, carries the moment of mine.

Speaker 4 (34:49):
You know.

Speaker 8 (34:50):
The best thing about being six and it was a
chance to be seven and all.

Speaker 10 (34:53):
You know, that's what Coachill says, and that's what Coachill
teaches us to never take an opportunity for.

Speaker 3 (34:59):
Granted, Never take any opportunity for granted.

Speaker 2 (35:02):
The best thing about being six and oh, it's an
opportunity to go seven and oh, week by week they're
going want to oh each week. This to a lot
of people in the state of Utah, I Ronald the
three man weaver. But to those in the state of Utah,
this games matter more than the rest of the season.
You talked about it.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
They are fans who would not like to have BYU
in the title game eleven to one and I lost
b to Utah.

Speaker 2 (35:24):
I'm gonna be declared of it. I know fans that
feel that way. That's not how I you know, personally
feel personally. I don't care to me. If you get there,
you get there, that's what it's about. But there are
fans that feel that way, Brett. They would rather a
nine and four and you beat Utah and be in
the Pop Tarch Bowl, then to lose to the school
up north.

Speaker 3 (35:41):
They can't stand it. It burns them to the core. Look,
I was rooting for Arizona State.

Speaker 9 (35:48):
I know a lot of people said, well, we want,
we want Utah and BYU to have the big nude
kickoff and the big matchup on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (35:54):
Said no, I want Arizona States. True, Brettant Grant was competitive,
petty in this moment. I just want I just want
to see Utah and look, I respect the hustle. They
just want to see BUYU lose. It's all I respect
the game.

Speaker 2 (36:06):
So it's all good because you know what, Vic, You
know what, Brett, there will be a loser on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (36:10):
There will be There will be a loser.

Speaker 2 (36:12):
Someone has to lose and none of this stupid tie
stuff like the NFL. Somebody will get their feelings hurt
and most likely it's gonna be the school up North. Anyway,
moving on, don't know why even said that number nine.
Kilani talked about last week there was a letdown of energy.
This week, the energy is better, but there still were
mistakes made on the field. See Ali, how do you

(36:35):
balance the celebrating we're also correcting the mistakes.

Speaker 10 (36:39):
Just going on and off the field. Our coaches will
grab us and so we will feed off the energy
of others. And but we also got to know that
we got to listen to what our coaches are critiquing
this on. So our minds never never drawn away from
our job in the aspect of keep kind of get
better and listen to what our coaches are saying. But
at the same time, after that's all done, we draw

(37:00):
from We draw from the jews that are that are
our sideline was giving us as well as the fans
that were there.

Speaker 2 (37:05):
Today, drawn from the Jews from the sideline. Something that
he points out. I've seen this actually at Lavelle and
on the road now going to two rugames. They do
pull the players aside. They will talk. They will say
that Logan had the two off sides penalties and they
talk to him.

Speaker 3 (37:19):
They do do this. All coaches do it.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
I don't want to make it seem like BA is
doing something that other coaches aren't, but no, they'll have
a conversation.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
Regards the correct things. So that's a part of it.

Speaker 2 (37:29):
But they got a good culture, very open, a lot
of people who are coachable, humble, hungry, so you have
both in that regard. But that was a little Sarah
shout out to he balled out. Question is is will
he be, you know, the main guy this week? Will
Jack get back? We'll find out Wednesday. I think wednesday's
the first availability report. I know Kline did media today.

(37:52):
I haven't listened to it yet, but I wonder if
people have asked about, you know, in that regards of
the injuries related to NF they'll play. Kline's not gonna
giveaway anything.

Speaker 9 (38:00):
That's why we released the reports on Tuesdays Wednesday so
you don't have to ask these questions.

Speaker 2 (38:04):
He did say that last week salty Kiline, Love salty Kilane.
I wonder what version of Kilane will happen today. I'm
gonna go back and listen.

Speaker 3 (38:12):
For sure.

Speaker 2 (38:12):
We'll put that sound tomorrow for you guys. But it's
gonna be very interesting to hear what type of version
of Kilane he might mirror. Kyle Wooding game. He was
his DC, so you never know he was on the
dead coaching tree. But big game on Saturday. But I
had to recap the cla a Sarah post game sound.
