Speaker 1 (00:00):
We were listening to Cougar Sports with Benkriddle, and it's
(00:02):
time for a Cougar Insider report. Now let's get that
proprietary inside scoop on Cougar Sports from Cridle.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Welcome back Cougar Sports.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
One of three nine ninety eight point three is bea
the phantom been crital broadcasting from our banter Roll Studios,
Betterwealth dot Com. Please get on that free Q and A,
no obligation to invest Q and A with our tax
more Wealth Advisors, our certified financial planners. Nobody does it
better than band or Well it is stop for a
little inside or report going to be brought to you
by Odion Menswearodion Menswear dot Com. They just get missionaries
there at Odeon Men'swear, but they also get the businessmen.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
They also get the church goer.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
So if you're any one of those three, please head
on over to Odeon Men'swear. Mention myself for ESPN the
Fan for fifteen fifteen fifteen to fifteen game.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
I think the rankings show that, but I think it's
I think a toss up is really pretty fair.
Speaker 5 (00:46):
The fact that they're.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
Favored when you already take the home deal advantage of
what three points roughly is the part that kind of
throws me off a little bit. But I want the
product to do the talking, like I would say about
our stuff at Odeon, like the product on the field,
I'll I don't know if you're talking.
Speaker 5 (01:00):
I don't really care where the line is because I
think we're going to come out.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
And win, so well, I hope that's the case. These
two teams I've described as the spider Man me. They're
very similar in form, function, personnel, and.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
What they do well, what they maybe don't do so well.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
But they're their top twenty five teams for a reason.
And and they look very similar in their style, their culture,
even at times in the form and fashion which they play.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Do you see those similarities?
Speaker 4 (01:31):
I totally think like both quarterbacks are run heavy, they
can throw it. I think Bear can thron a little better.
I think Jampier is a little more dynamic it is running,
but Bear's a little more powerful and is running. I
think on the defensive side, they're both aggressive. I think
we probably have a better rush defense statistically, which helps
us out because we are both both offenses are more
(01:52):
rush heavy right now. But I do think obviously you
need to have Jack healthy. I think Raider getting really
hurt us on that run defense. I think Raider's going
to need the good run support safety, So yeah, I
need similarities. Wise, It's really like I said, it's just
who's going to win. The trench warfare is really what
it is. And i'm a little I mean, their offensive
line's good, so we'll see how the trenches go.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
What in your opinion, will be the difference maker or
the differentiators in this game for Bway to come out victorious.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
I think what's the what I think really could help.
I think if you have Jack Kelly healthy enough to
play and and go. I think him spying the MPR.
Once we did that with the West Virginia quarterback and
Salter also did in Salter like, I think once we
(02:42):
did that and decided, hey, we're just gonna spy him,
that was when we took away the quarterback run game.
And I really think if we forced them to throw
I feel good about it, and then to throw deep.
So I think if we can kind of load the
box and have Kelly stay as a as a spy,
I feel pretty comfortable that we can shut them. Whether
we can score or not, will be another thing. But
I think we can slow down their offense if we
(03:04):
can keep him in the pocket.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
So, as far as the defense is concerned Bou's defense
versus the University of Utah's offense, I think many of
us feel like, Hey, this is gonna leite defense. How
will they stymy slow down? Will they be to be
will they be as effective as Texas Tech was a
couple of weeks ago at Rice Equo Stadium on their
(03:26):
home turn.
Speaker 5 (03:28):
I think it'll be hard.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
I think one of the things that that does worry
me is we've been I feel like on third downs
is where we struggled a little bit.
Speaker 5 (03:34):
On defense.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
That's probably our biggest weakness that I've seen is giving
up third downs, even third lungs, and Utah's I think
the number one team in the nation un third down conversions,
and so that is one of the things that does
worry me. I think if we can obviously, I think
the thing that Texas Tech did that helped that third
down number for them and overcome Utah's their downe number
was that they were getting them in third and lungs.
(03:55):
So if we can stop them and get them into
third and lungs, I feel you know, that would make
me feel a lot better about how our defense could
could perform, because I do think that's a huge part
of it, as we've given up some pretty silly third
and lungs.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
In my opinion, if Jack Kelly doesn't play, does that
influence you one way or the other to favor the
Cougars in this game?
Speaker 4 (04:19):
Yes, I don't know that it well, I wouldn't say
it favors me to completely don't and I believe in
my cooogies no matter what, right I just have to.
But but I do think it does affect it. I
do think is underrated in his speed, Like I don't
think he's as good as Jack in that specific role
as a spy to keep demp here there. But I
think he's much better than people would think because he
(04:40):
is so big. But he is he's still fast. I
mean you watch him come out of a shootout like
a rocket like Jack does sometimes a couple a couple
of times last during the Arizona game.
Speaker 5 (04:48):
So I think that.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
I think seeing News and Camel Pao and Tussy the
Acona both come in. I don't know how much they'll
get because I don't I don't think we want to
get out of our our rush lanes because the thing
with with I was on his quarterback.
Speaker 5 (05:03):
Why I can't I think of his name now, Vida
that he seems you know, Vida.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
He does.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
He's very, very, very athletic, but he doesn't seem to
try and get upfield. He's just trying to create a space.
So you want to need somebody to pursue back. I
think it'll be a little bit different game plan where
we're trying to yes, get to him, but mostly stay
on our rush lanes and then have have Jack or
and if Jack isn't playing, be that guy that's just
making sure he's he's taking care of him as soon
(05:29):
as he leaves the pocket.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Brighton Day here on ESPN the Fan, the CEO of
Odeon Men's Work, tell us about some of the deals
we have going on for our listeners there at Odeon
Men's Work.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
Yeah, so what we've got going on right now is
we have a buy one suit, get the second one
hundred and seventy four dollars off, which is an awesome
deal if this is on all of our suits. Obviously,
we talked a lot about the Elevates suit, that is
the suit you should come in and try.
Speaker 5 (05:54):
That's one of them.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
And then actually we have something we're wanting to start
putting out there. Is that October twenty four and twenty fifth,
so not this coming weekend, but next Friday and Saturday,
we're going to be having a tent sale in a
Riverton store out in the parking lot via a Riverton store,
and we're just there's just quite a bit of inventory that,
you know, we started getting through our busy season and
we stuff some stuff left and.
Speaker 5 (06:15):
We're just gonna try and blow out a ton of stuff.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
So up to seventy five percent off on a lot
of products that we're trying to blow out, so we'll
be running that there. I was sad when I found
out the kickoff time wasn't gonna be late night because
I was hoping we will be done with that and
watch the game at home.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
So we will definitely find a way to have a
TV out.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
There to streaming because I ain't missing the game, So
we will if you want to come watch, if you
want to come during halftime or something like that, in
your word, you're gonna miss something, the game will be.
Speaker 5 (06:39):
Up for that.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
So love that.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Check it out. Odion Men'swearodion menswear dot Com. If they

really like to be super helpful and hands on with our.
Speaker 5 (07:05):

Speaker 4 (07:08):

that we've tried to source product or create product that
helps you look good, feel good and do good. So, yes,
are there brant vendors out there and companies you can
find that look good great. Yes, are there some that
you can feel great in? Yes, But we feel like
we have found the perfect match in on so many
categories of things that look good, feel good, and then
(07:30):
so you can go out and do good in the
different times you're wearing your formal wear.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
Love it Odeon men's Wear, Odeon men's wear dot Com.
Give me a score prediction. What do you see in
this game BYU versus Utah. How you feeling?
Speaker 4 (07:43):
So the Blue Goggles of Me is fifty four to ten.
But the real means is.
Speaker 5 (07:48):
Point well, I just I need a fifty four to
ten game.
Speaker 6 (07:51):
Guys.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
They've had it, they've had it, and I need one
on my side.
Speaker 5 (07:54):
I just need one.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
But I do think twenty four to twenty one is
what I'm really thinking. It's going to come down to.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
The will always take the under of it.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Bradon Day, Ladies and gentlemen, appreciate you as always. Thanks

There's been up and down.
Speaker 6 (09:42):
I invite everybody to go to bau Cougars dot com.
The information directors have done a phenomenal job. They even
post how the name is pronounced. I know the basketball
team has shout out to one of the fans that
DM me to pronounce Kadem's name of how to say it.
We'll do that at a later point in time when
it comes back up. But it's always good pronounce the
name of One thing that I was taught well by
(10:02):
a wise man, and you word too, bred is to
make sure that you get their name right. You can
get someone's name right, and I always tell people if
you can say Shryzewski, then you can get all of
these other names right as well.

All right, without further ado, let's get into the sound
from Monday's media availability. This was Kyle Safhark Choke. The
first question that we're gonna ask him is regarding the fumble.
Everybody wants to know, you know, did he steal it away?
(11:01):
Did he fall on top of it? How did it
go about doing so? Well, let's just ask him right now, Kyle.
Did you get a game ball for saving that fumble?
Speaker 5 (11:11):
No?
Speaker 7 (11:11):
I didn't, but you know, I just did my job
out there, and you know, saw the ball pop out
and jumped on it.
Speaker 6 (11:17):
No, did not saw the job. Excuse me, saw the
ball pop out, just jumped on it. So let's break
it down. Let's jump to number three. Actually, let's go
with the play by playoff. How you got that ball?
Tell us how that came about.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
So I went through the whole of the play.
Speaker 7 (11:36):
I turn over and I saw Berry getting tackled, and
I saw the ball pop out, and you know, I
just leaped. U leaped for the ball and try to
bring it to me as as hard as I could,
and just brought the ball in and didn't let anyone
else touch it. Basically, that's all I remember.
Speaker 6 (11:54):
Now he's smiling when he said this, and Brandon Gerdy
said in the first time, and I was standing with
him when it originally came out. He was not on
top of the ball and Arizona dbor linebacker.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
I think at it.
Speaker 6 (12:05):
I think he's somehow that's why he says that and
say fall on top of it. He willed it away
from an Arizona person and stole the ball, and that's allowed.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
At the bottom of the pile.
Speaker 8 (12:16):
I mean, all the official no's is who comes up
with it because once you get in a file, you
can't go back and look at a replay, oh, because
you can't see who has the football and who has
possession and who maintains possession. All you know is is
that when you're the official and you pull everybody off,
who has control of the ball, and that was Kyle Safarchuk.
(12:37):
That's why in that moment I thought ball game, this
thing's over BYU lost because it looked like the Arizona
defender had it jumped on top of it, and somehow
at the end of it, Kyle Stafartu walks away with
the ball. Pretty humble, pretty quiet, pretty mild mannered guy
for someone who basically saved the game by stealing the
football away from a guy who had possession.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
Definitely saved the game. Stole the ball away, no doubt
about it.
Speaker 6 (13:01):
I've been in rugby scrums and the pile can get
heavy when it falls down and collapses. But I can't
even imagine how that is with three hundred pound men,
multiple three hundred pounds men, probably some two hundred pound
men as well in pads trying to get football. I
couldn't even imagine in that regard. But shout out to
Kyle was able to save at bau stay undefeated because
(13:22):
of that, and Bear had two hells on a football.
Shot out to Arizona's defense pointed out, and to make
sure you have the upmostle ball security this Saturday against
the Universe of Utah. Whoever turns the football over, I
believe will lose the game, So we'll have to wait
and see. Let's jump back to number two now, talking
about the fumble. You've been rotating quite a bit of guard.
Give us your evaluation of the play. The last six weeks.
(13:43):
In your opinion, it's been good.
Speaker 7 (13:45):
We've been all falling back on our coach Wood's coaching points,
so it's been really fun. Everyone just trusting the process
and getting better each week.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
Yeah, trusting coach Woods.
Speaker 6 (13:56):
Simple to the point, right as just how it is
you trust your offensive line.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Coach.
Speaker 6 (14:00):
They did a way better job. They handled Arizona's defensive
line pretty well. Then they stacked the box obviously later
towards the game, but until then, your running back doesn't
have a career. Now at the boys up front are blocking,
even though Arizona was in a certain defensive scheme, but
they got some dudes that tackled. That's why the O
line D line battles on both sides of the ball
for Bautah are going to be very intriguing in my opinion,
(14:22):
by the end of the game. Number four, how many
snaps are you getting a game? What is your role
right now? Kyle along the offensive line with rotating.
Speaker 7 (14:33):
I would say whatever coach was thinks his best during
the game of how much reps I get and whatever
way I can help the team, This is gonna be
them out I play, and whenever my name is called,
I know I got to go out there on the
field and give my best effort. So either that's every
other drive or every other couple drives, or even if
that's just one drive a game, I know whenever I
get out there, I'm gonna give my all for the team.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
It's a glue guy.
Speaker 6 (14:54):
I'm hearing glue guy in this for the future God
is like going out and give him from my team
straight to the point. Doesn't need a spotlight, doesn't care
about it, doesn't care how many snaps he's gonna get.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
He's gonna go block.
Speaker 8 (15:04):
I mean, offensive line is famously the most unappreciated position
on the football field because basically you can't do anything
without them, but if they mess up, everybody wants to
give them the hate and none of the praise. So
you have to have guys like that along your offensive line.
It's kind of a nature of just playing the position.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
Definitely a nature of playing position. You're not wrong.
Speaker 6 (15:28):
You have to have that mindset, and it definitely seems
like Kyle has that mindset. Doesn't say a lot. A quiet,
humble guy just wants to put his head down. Number five,
Your last name has been pronounced seventeen different ways by broadcasters.
This is what I was talking about earlier. What's the
correct way to say it in the origin of it?
Speaker 2 (15:46):
N so far choke, So.
Speaker 7 (15:49):
It's kind of like suh suh, then far far and
then choke.
Speaker 5 (15:55):
So so far choke is.
Speaker 7 (15:58):
The most simple way for me to put it like that,
But there is Yeah, yep.
Speaker 8 (16:04):
And I'm assuming that's like an Eastern European.
Speaker 7 (16:07):
Yeah, it's a Romanian. My dad is from Romania.
Speaker 6 (16:11):
Shout out Sean walkerkassl dot com. Front of the program.
He was the one that asked a question, and I'm glad.
I'm glad that he asked that because a lot of
people may say that's not a good question.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
Well sorry.
Speaker 6 (16:21):
There are even those on the media availability call that
were there Monday that's gonna say it wrong.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Kyle Safar choke.
Speaker 8 (16:28):
That is interesting, And shout out to Sean for knowing
like a general region of where it's from. It's also
cool that that's where his dad is from. Yeah, because
I think you just assume, oh, every white BYU kid
is all from me, Like it's it's cool too, I
don't know, just different forms of diversity, different people from
different countries and countries that people may not be super
(16:49):
familiar with or as familiar with as they should be.
So shout out to Romania. Very cool that side Kyle's
Farchuk is on this team. Yeah, one hundred percent. I
agree with you.
Speaker 6 (16:57):
It's good to have diversity and have that you know,
different faces. I always say this, if people around you
all look the same, act and do the same, it's
not really gonna work for you, and for some people
it is. And I just think you know that doesn't
allow you to be open minded, allows you to be
more close minded.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Being uncomfortable is the best thing.
Speaker 6 (17:14):
Because the most uncomfortable man on this world who walked,
which was Jesus Christ, loved everybody.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
So I think it's totally okay in that regard. Let's
keep it going though.
Speaker 6 (17:23):
Kyle LJ gets a ton of credit to you guys
along the offensive line. Can you hype him up a
little bit? And what he's accomplished's.
Speaker 7 (17:33):
A big, strong back, smart guy, real humble as you
can tell. And he's just a playmaker and every time
he goes on the field, he just knows his job
and he's gonna give the best effort. He puts an
effort in all the little things off and on the field,
and that directly translates on the field. That's why I
put Lj's the hardest worker right now.
Speaker 6 (17:54):
LG's the hardest worker. You know, this goes back to
fall camp. Tommy Pratt has said this, Jonathan Coulby a
multiple people that said LJ was the hardest worker. So
you got to give Lj's flowers, and that's translating on
the field into how he's performed. Number seven. Kyle, you
played at SEU the last few years. Have you heard
about the rivaly prior to coming to BYU. You've seen
(18:17):
it from a distance. Now that you're in it and
gonna play, what are your thoughts going into it and
what have others told you about it?
Speaker 7 (18:25):
I've heard it's a it's a big game, and every
rival game is a big game, even back in my
old school when we've played our rival, and I heard
there's a lot of excitement around this game.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
And rightfully so.
Speaker 7 (18:37):
And it's just going to be fun to prepare and
play this opponent this week, and uh, just give them
all our attention. It's going to be a fun time.
Speaker 6 (18:45):
Definitely gonna be a fun time. Give your opponent's attention.
That's to be what you have. Like Keanu said yesterday, Look,
it wasn't circle, but now that it's this week, it
is circled. Want to know, that's the mentality of this team.
That's why they've been staying humble and hungry.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Number eight.
Speaker 6 (19:02):
There's a lot of trash talk between fans about this game.
You probably hear it on the field. Are you a
guy that likes to participate in that? We asked Keano yesterday.
He said he likes it and it fires him up.
Are you a quiet, reserved guy.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
I'm more of a mellow guy. Just just yeah, just
more mellow.
Speaker 6 (19:21):
I'm more mellow, and I really like that. Don't really
like to talk trash. And I think that's totally okay.
You hear from this interview. This is the guy that
just he he wants to go play football, that's his helmet,
does the talk, and I think it's totally fine.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
Number nine.
Speaker 6 (19:33):
In terms of coach Woods, he's the run game coordinator.
What has he meant in your opinion to how good
the run game has been this season.
Speaker 7 (19:40):
Well, he's you know, he's the general of us, and
like he laid the foundation and you know, coaches just
hard every week and without him it would be really
hard to it would be impossible to perform how we do.
And the coaching is phenomenal and it helps us go
against any because every week it's a different defense and
(20:00):
he prepared us really well during the week and like
if that's just the rules, he gives us the film
details and everything. So it's been awesome.
Speaker 6 (20:08):
He's the general, right Brett, the general of the run game,
no doubt, and he gives them the rules and he's
got these guys with in the shape. This is gonna
be the biggest test again the robbery game. You win
this game, it's gonna mean a lot. That's gonna put
that notion to bed naturally a lot, because you'll have
beaten probably what the second, if not the third best
team in the Big Toeve.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
But people don't believe you're that. So TJ.
Speaker 6 (20:29):
Woods, a boy's got a tough task, especially against the
Utah defensive line, we'll see what happens.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
We'll finish up with this and get you out of here.
On this.
Speaker 6 (20:36):
We heard from Ayrol last week say that the first
five opponents put something different on the field that differed
from what they showed on film in ahead of those games.
Was Arizona the same as you expected or was it
six or six with something different?
Speaker 7 (20:50):
They Yeah, they switched it up a little bit, but
some stuff we expected. But then you know, that rain
delay some stuff kind of they gave teams time to
figure out what was happening.
Speaker 6 (21:00):
Oh yeah, we've talked about this enough, but we'll finish
on this one more time before we put that notion
to bed. The rainde lay definitely gave Arizona the advantage, Brett,
You were right in that regard, and they were able
to make adjustments that probably they weren't gonna be able
to make so halftime, but by you could have maybe
taking the doors off in the first half, but that
wasn't the case. But they definitely were rolling in. Arizona
(21:21):
didn't seem prepared, but after the rain delay, they definitely
had the advantage as they shut them off for two
and what three fourth quarters pretty much just about.
Speaker 8 (21:28):
And I think the other big piece of what married
Arizona is so difficult is you have a true freshman
quarterback and then you have an Arizona defense that excelled
at showing you one thing and dropping into something absolutely
completely different. So even if you did study it on film,
(21:48):
they were disguising looks so heavily that it made it
really hard to take advantage of. I think they did
an incredible job of just saying, Okay, fine, you know what,
instead of trying to predetermine and pre know everything, We're
just gonna go out there and play football. I think
that's also why you saw them go to the run
game a lot, is because they said, Okay, instead of
(22:09):
letting them force us to make mistakes by showing one
thing and us guessing what they're gonna drop into next,
let's put the ball on the ground and then we
don't have to guess who's in which coverage.
Speaker 6 (22:21):
Yeah, that's a good point, and they did a phenomenal
job of that. Arizona definitely a better team. So g man,
you're right, I forgot to tell you that in the
first hour, but he probably knows. Guys, that's our segment
that was a little reading between the lines with Kyle.

All right, LJ. Martin.
Speaker 6 (25:10):
He also addressed the media on Monday. Gonna get to
a little bit of his sound. He's a guy that's
having a big year now. Everybody knew when LJ if
he could stay healthy, he could have had probably maybe
not a thousand yard season that first year, but definitely
close to it. And definitely last year you would have
gotten it. But he's on pace for it. Happy to
see him finally ball out. I don't know if he's
(25:31):
gonna be here. I know people like Ron you're getting
ahead of yourself. But if he keeps this up, to
be a top ten running back in the country, to
be the top running back in the Big twelve is
gonna be really tough. So we're gonna hear from the
running back himself. He was asked questions on Monday in
preparation for this byu Utah Rivalry number one.
Speaker 4 (25:47):
LJ.
Speaker 6 (25:47):
You were on the team last year. What do you
remember about that game and your first taste of the
intensity of the rivalry?
Speaker 4 (25:54):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (25:54):
Yeah, last game it was really fun, you know, just
being out there, the environment. It was really loud playing
at Utah, So I'm sure it'll be loud this time
for them on offense, but it'll be a lot of fun.
It'll be really intense, and uh, it's gonna be a
fun game.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
It was intense. It was loud. Drewsey was born two
days before.
Speaker 6 (26:11):
I had my headphone in because I little babies, you
don't want that.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
As it firstly born, I have to hear all that sound.
It sounded loud.
Speaker 6 (26:17):
Watching the game from the hospital for the hospital. I
was watching the game from the hospital. Literally, I was
feeding Derwsey actually during keithing Marrion's kickoff return. That's what
was feeding it as it was, and I was trying
not to, you know, give her trauma, you know what,
give her you know, shaking baby syndrome, because I was
trying not to go crazy.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
You know, I didn't have to be professional in that sense.
I was.
Speaker 6 (26:37):
I was able to, you know, celebrate as a fan.
The wife and out. She was my sleep at she
was asleep at the time. She was emily no, Emily happy.
Both are watching it. So she was watching. She this
is what she was doing. She was being a mother
and then babysitting the husband to make sure the husband
give their child brain damage because you know, the husband
was going psychotic during the game. But that was the
(26:57):
That was the most quiet I've ever had to been
feeding Drewsey, you know, even holding her, doing skin to
skin but that game I heard it through the broadcast
through the book that tells you how loud that game was.
So I can't even imagine what l e s is
gonna be like Saturday break.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
You'll be there.
Speaker 6 (27:13):
I'll find out later today if there would be space
for myself. But man, I'm excited for this game on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (27:19):
Shout out to uh father in law Neil bringing me
to the game. I appreciate it.
Speaker 6 (27:23):
This is actually any of you want to adopt the
black son in law, I'm sure you would.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
I'm sure he would. He seems so fun.
Speaker 4 (27:29):
Man.
Speaker 8 (27:30):
Look he is no uh Neils a great guy, so
I'm sure he'd love to adopt a black son in law.
But this is my first time ever going to a
bou Utah game.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
Really, this is my first one ever.
Speaker 8 (27:42):
Okay, so and and there's look, I know I've given
this take. I'm I am the type of guy who
likes to watch the game from home. I don't like
to watch it at a party. I don't like to
watch it at the game. I don't even really love
watching into the press box. I want to watch it
in the comfort of my own home and the comfort
of my own club. On the TV with nobody talking
to me, because then I can kind of really get
(28:03):
a true feel for what's going on in the game.
It makes it easier for you to make content afterwards,
obviously because I'm still at home.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
But and so I was like, I don't want to go.
Speaker 8 (28:13):
But then I was like, you know what, I am
so grateful, Like these tickets are reselling for six hundred dollars,
Like and this is my first time ever going to
a b y u Utah game. I've never been to
the to the game, so I'm really excited to go.
I'm just assuming and projecting Monday morning when we drop
(28:34):
our podcast and Monday after when we do this show.
I don't know if I'll have a voice, because my
guess is as loud as it's going to be on
Saturday and night I will be contributing. I don't know
what my voice is gonna be like a couple of
days afterwards. But uh, if y'all don't hear me and
but be what you got the win, then just know
I contributed to that win, and it.
Speaker 6 (28:53):
Was for a good reason. It was for good reason.
I when you say six hundred dollars, the first thing
I thought of was shoes. How many shoes can brend
my box with six hundred. I'm like, well, if you
buy it depends on the shoe. It was like, depends
on the show. You probably could buy one. If not,
you maybe definitely can get three with resale for sure,
depending on if you get some lows.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
Maybe.
Speaker 6 (29:11):
But I was like, you know, let's connect this with
Boe fans because I don't want to hear about our
shoe addiction. You know what they do want to hear
about cougar tails. So I asked that GPT, how many
cougar tails could you buy with six hundred dollars? So
they're eight bucks apiece, you're divided by six hundred seventy
five cougar tails seventy five that's wild. Now, I think
(29:32):
my math is right on that bread. But that's a
lot of cougar tails. So I just want to do that.
So six hundred dollars or seventy five cougar tails, you
might have to do some random you know whatever about that,
but that's funny.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
Anyway.
Speaker 6 (29:43):
Let's get back to the LJ. Martin sound after we're
gone on that little bit of a tangent. Number two, LJ.
You got twenty five carries against Arizona, your biggest warkload
yet of the season. How are you feeling after that game?
Speaker 9 (29:57):
Yeah, I mean it's really fun, you know, to be
able to touch the ball to tenty five times. I
mean sure if you have see anyone else on offense,
that's something they'd like to do. So, you know, it's
really fun just being up being able to be out
there and just get the ball that many times.
Speaker 6 (30:10):
Got a little distracted. You guys can't see it, but
you can hear it. Bret has looked up the tickets
and reseale on this game.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
Cheapest ticket right now going for three eighty two up.
It just looks way up. Oh you know, I take
it back there.
Speaker 8 (30:24):
If you want to sit on the horizontal side and
be able to look down to the field, you're paying
at least a grand to sit at the fifty front.
Speaker 6 (30:31):
Row or second row is paying three thousands almost.
Speaker 8 (30:34):
Like the ticket prices here are insane. I feel bad
for those who are don't have tickets. I know we
I know my father I thought about selling them. Yeah,
look like that's like that's a lot of money to
turn down and not go to the game. But you
know what, the experience will be worth it.
Speaker 6 (30:53):
It will, no doubt about it at all. I mean
shout out to Vic Graham on the data aggregation. As
I said in the opening segment, this is where BYU
ranked some young p four games you know in a
week specifically, uh, you know, I guess going into the
rivalry game Clemson versus SMU, tickets are thirty seven dollars
thirty seven BAU versus Utah two eighty seven, rivalry hype
(31:14):
and homecoming drive premium price and tops the week for
this week's tickets. Not surprised at all. I would love
to see where the BAU tickets rank actually in that.
Here's this is what it says on this is a
secondary market. So if you're getting tickets from stub Hub,
Seek Geek, vivid Seats, tickpicks or whatever you get your
tickets from that aren't bi dot com, or if you're
not a.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
BA, you stupid tickets sold out. Well that's so saying
if you can already get it before. So this is
what you're gonna pay.
Speaker 6 (31:40):
Lower bowl seats, you're gonna pay three hundred thirty five
to four to fifty, mid level sets, you're gonna pay
anywhere between four to eight hundred and then premiere all
lower sideline. You're paying a thousand plus as we already mentioned,
so this is where BAU makes this money and the
same as that Rise Ecles rice cycles last year, the
tickets were not cheap either, So uh, it's the tickets,
aren't you Just like LJ. Martin's workload wasn't cheap either.
(32:03):
LJ loves to carry the ball, has always dreamed been
doing that, did it last week?
Speaker 2 (32:06):
Had a career day number three. LJ.
Speaker 6 (32:08):
With your workload, is that something that you've been looking
forward to now that you're finally fully healthy.
Speaker 9 (32:15):
Yeah, just coming out of high school. I mean, you know,
I had a lot of carries in high school and
I was able to help my team some.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
So you know, I just wanted to do the same
in college.
Speaker 9 (32:23):
And I feel like I've been able to do that
so far when I'm healthy, and you know, that's something
I want to continue to do.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
When he's healthy.
Speaker 6 (32:29):
He can run the ball and told for a lot, right,
A lot of questions at the beginning was how many
times I think twenty to twenty five game is his limit?
And that's with catches, right, I don't think you want
him to carry him more than that. So at the
end of the day, he carried the ball a lot.
In high school. It's different than college. The workload is different,
the physicality is but he's built forward.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
He had a career day.
Speaker 6 (32:48):
They're going to stack the box, Gurney said in the
first hour, and I agree with him. Utah's not gonna
let LJ run them over. So Bart's going to be
forced to throw. But he threw against West Virginny. But
this is a better secondary. Smithsda is a dude. We'll
see what happens how a Rod schemes it up. Number four,
What is it between you and Bear that makes you
guys so effective in the run game?
Speaker 4 (33:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (33:10):
Bear's really big and physical. I mean he's about the
same size as me, and you know he runs really hard.
So I think him being really physical on the role line.
They do a great job up front. So I would
say those two things, him being a willing runner just
being physical, and our line upfront getting good push.
Speaker 6 (33:26):
Still not convinced he's two twenty. Still convinced he's two thirty. Regardless,
he bounces off like a gazelle just like LJ. Those
two are a problem in the run game. But you
can't keep running those guys, Brad can't keep running them.
Speaker 8 (33:38):
I think both of them are so instrumental in the
success in the run game of the other one.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
And here's what I mean.
Speaker 8 (33:46):
I know that Bear has a lot of the rushing touchdowns,
but I think part of that is because this duo
is so dangerous when you especially when you get into
that red zone, because you almost just have to pick
your poison and say, look, if Bear gets loose, we're
not stopping him, because I promise you are safety going
one on one in the hole with Bear, Bear's running
(34:09):
over him or at Arizona, he's hurtling him. But I
think part of the reason that Bear gets so open
on some of those runs is especially when they do
the motion ones they've already bo you has shown you
this season, we will hand the ball off to Parker.
So it's not as though this jet motion in the
red zone is just a gimmick. They will give it
to him. They gave it to him against West Virginia.
(34:29):
Look how that turned out. So you have that. The
other element then you add is LJ. Martin, which is
the number one carrier in the Big Twelve. He is
a top five rusher in terms of P four runners,
and so I think it's sometimes teams say I don't
want LJ to beat us, so then they follow LJ
(34:50):
on that option and it leaves bear open. I think
both of them being so dangerous is what makes the
duo on both sides so effective and makes them so successful.
Speaker 2 (35:00):
Everybody is always worried about the other one. Yeah, we'll see.
Speaker 6 (35:03):
I really the player that I one of the players
that I like in their playbook is the pitch play.
Remember Texas Tech first year in the Big twelve twenty
twenty three, first pitch, LJ almost goes to the ows. Now,
his top speed wasn't the way it was now if
that had been this year, I think he gets into
the ends and I don't think he gets hawked down
in that regard. If they busted out that play first
play of the game and went for a decent amount,
(35:26):
you know, I think that that could be the player.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
We'll see what they do first player.
Speaker 6 (35:29):
If they try to push the ball vertical, but if
BA wants to toss, you know what they're gonna do.
You know they're gonna set the tone with their defense,
no doubt. Number five lj Well role did Aaron Roddick
playing in Getting You to BYU? And what does it
meant to have him for the last two and a
half seasons?
Speaker 4 (35:47):
He had a good role though.
Speaker 9 (35:49):
I remember the first time I talked to him, I
mean really, the first thing we talked about was if
I would have opportunity to play coming in and then
he said I was versatile, and he said that if,
I mean, if I was good enough, that would have
the opportunity. So just after hearing that, I mean, that's
kind of someone who I wanted to play for. Not
someone that was just gonna promise me thinks to make
the promises, but someone that was gonna be honest with
(36:11):
me and tell me what it is and tell me
the real side of things.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
So we have a really good relationship.
Speaker 9 (36:18):
I mean I enjoy being around them.
Speaker 2 (36:19):
I have a lot of respect from as a coach.
Speaker 9 (36:21):
So it's really fun just being able to play for him.
Speaker 6 (36:24):
It's the best soundclip out of the entire interview, and
obviously we vetted the sound so we know that you
guys don't know that. Maybe you'll be determined the factor
of your own but in our pain, we think that's
the best sound clip.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
What role would it look like?
Speaker 6 (36:35):
Well, this is exactly what it is, and to play,
and he gave me an opportunity to play, and we
have a great relationship. And then he said, that's exactly
what you want as a player, is to be instill
commonest beforehand, during the recruitment visit when you get the scholarship.
And a Rod has done that, and he says he
loves playing for I just.
Speaker 8 (36:50):
Don't ever get the sense that a Rod could say
things he doesn't believe. I agree, could say things that
maybe you don't like that, maybe that maybe or not
what you want to hear. But I just have a
hard time seeing a Rod as the guy who goes
into the recruiting pitch and puts on a mask and
a face just to say something to get a guy here.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
A Rod is who he is at all.
Speaker 8 (37:11):
Times, in all moments, and so to me this makes
a lot of sense. And frankly that resonated with LJ
to say, like, I didn't want someone who is just
gonna tell me any and everything that I wanted to
get just to get me there.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
That's so disingenuous.
Speaker 8 (37:28):
He said, Hey, if you're good enough, you will have
an opportunity to play, instead of saying, hey.
Speaker 2 (37:33):
Man, you're our guy. You're gonna play no matter what.
Da da da da. No. I believe in you.
Speaker 8 (37:37):
I think you're the best, and if I believe you're
the best, then I will play you. However, I'm not
just going to say without having to do any of
the work, without having to put any of that in,
I'm gonna give you the minutes and I'm gonna give
you the touches. That's not how it works. That's not
how air Rod works. And that honesty is what got
LJ two b YU and man, are we.
Speaker 6 (37:58):
Grateful he's here. You bring up a good point. Lots
of times you see the issue of coaches over promise.
Oh I just want to star recruit on my rosteryh
They just say yeah, and then they don't play.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
Then they had a bad experience. Parents don't like it.
All of that.
Speaker 6 (38:10):
I always say this, some people, everybody can hear a price,
some people can be bought, or everybody can be bought
depending on the price. Excuse me. But at the same time,
there has to be genuiness. If you're disingenuous, if you're transactional.
I am very big on this if you're a transactional individual,
it's not gonna go well. Right, I describe our relationship
all the time. We are not transactional individuals in our relationship.
(38:32):
And I've gotten to know you within the last year
and it's been great, and I love new relationships and
friendships that have built, and I'm grateful that you're not
the way. But if you do that, I know people,
I've met people like this. I've had people try to
do this to me. It will not work out for you.
It will flutter for a moment, it will fly. But
in the ways of the new movie Tron, you'll have
twenty nine minutes and then you'll disappear. You'll and then
(38:52):
you'll have to reconfigure and do that. I think that's
a good play on words and a good analogy to
use with the Neutron movie. You haven't seen it, sorry
I spoiled it, but that's exact what it is. Is
you're alive for twenty nine minutes and they have to
recreate you. You don't want to have to recreate these fake,
false relationships, computer type system relationships because you aren't being
you know, genuine in that regard.
Speaker 2 (39:11):
So love that.
Speaker 6 (39:13):
Aaron Roddick and now j have the relationship. A couple
last things, LJ. Before we let you go, coming in
from out of state, what did you know about BYU?
U taught rivaly if at all? And has it loved
up to that expectation.
Speaker 9 (39:23):
I didn't really know a lot about it until I
got here, and then people would always just talk about
Utah and then how we you know, they would just
always talk about Utah and then same with BYU and
then so I kind of just saw it on social media.
That's like my first impression and actually being out here,
I didn't think the game was going to be as
intense because I'd never really heard about the rivalry growing up,
(39:45):
just being from where I'm from, you know, I never
really heard about it. But then once I got out here,
I realized, like, it's a pretty big deal and it's
a lot of fun, you know, just like last year
the fans it was it was crazy. It was a
lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
Yeah, last year it was it was pretty crazy.
Speaker 6 (40:00):
He wasn't wrong the final drive, that flag extending out
everything turned out. I think you and have bred and
I can the test and agree that that was wild.
I don't think anybody expected the game. I thought BOI
was gonna lose, but the flag, which it was a
whole extended to drive You'll see what happens this year.
What crazy thing will happen in this year game? In
this year's game, we have no idea, but we're gonna
(40:21):
find out. Everybody's gonna watch, everybody's gonna, you know what,
and find out. Because you're going to the game, you're watching,
you're allocating some type of band with whether that be
in person or whether that be at home, you will
be dialed in. But it has He didn't know anything
about it. It lived up to the expectation. So we'll
see what happens with the rivaly number seven.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
LJ.
Speaker 6 (40:41):
You went off on Saturday, and you've been doing it,
frankly all season. What's been working so well for you
this season? As you're averaging over one hundred yards per game?
Speaker 9 (40:50):
I feel like I've been able to understand kind of
where the O line's going this year a lot more,
and they've been doing a great job getting pushed and
just making the reads really easy. So I feel like
it's those two things bond.
Speaker 6 (41:01):
LJ says that, and I agree with him. Aaron Rodock
also says, Oh, he's better in pass protection this year.
You know which it is. You saw him Arizona. He
picked up a great blocks. He's done that. But his
biggest challenge up until this point will be this game
on Saturday with the rivalry that has been good in
pass protection, Bears not gotten.
Speaker 2 (41:16):
Sacked first couple of games.
Speaker 6 (41:17):
There were some question marks to get the rust off,
but ever since then, I loved what I've seen from
Lja in the past game and when I mean pass game,
pass protection game, and then when he's run downhill as well.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
Brett top ten running back nationally right now.
Speaker 8 (41:30):
Yeah, top ten and running and most of those guys
in rush yards are not P four guys.
Speaker 2 (41:38):
Bear Lgi Belivi points.
Speaker 8 (41:40):
Fourth in terms of just straight P four guys, Michigan
guy Justice Haynes, I think is Believe is his name,
and then the kid from Missouri and I'm trying to
remember the other one. But yeah, there's only three guys
ahead of him that are power for running backs who
have more yards than he does.
Speaker 6 (41:58):
There, you go, that's a good stat to half and
that's gonna get looked at. That's gonna get looked at
by those at the next level, So there are a
lot of NFL scouts coming to games.
Speaker 2 (42:06):
I was on the road.
Speaker 6 (42:07):
It was the Indianapolis Coats, the Baltimore Ravens, and Jaguars,
and you know, I think already said the Colts, but anyway,
it was. It was a handful of for NFL teams.
Four NFL scouts were there looking. I know what they
like to see in LJ, especially when you look at
the likes of a Jonathan Taylor over there. Jaguars might
be looking for a new running back. The Ravens Dereck
Henry's getting older in their regard, so you gotta like
(42:29):
what you see from LJ. What will happen with LJ
in the future. Definitely an NFL running back, no doubt
leading right now the big twelve and rushing yards as well.
Number eight, LJ. We'll get you out of here on this.
What has Bruce Mitchell been able to do through the
first six games of the season. He's the guy that
gets overlooked. He's taken on this new role at center
last year, being the first year now this year, how
(42:50):
has he been able to help Bear and get him
in the offense settled in?
Speaker 9 (42:55):
Great job on my DM things making things easy for us.
He even takes you know, he's able to recognize pressures
and kind of flip the protection so I'm able to
get out and just making it a lot easier for me.
So he does a great job in that sense. And
you're just a great person, I mean, just being around
to mind enjoy it a lot. So he's a great
teammate and he just makes everything easier for us.
Speaker 2 (43:16):
My apologies.
Speaker 6 (43:17):
Bruce taken over this year, first time at center full time,
not last year, but Connor was still there, so I
just have to make sure that I clarify that in
that regard. But no, Bruce has done a phenomenal job.
The chemistry was bear. There is only one thing I'm
really concerned about Breton. I think he would agree with this.
We've had two high snaps in the last three games,
the one at Colorado the one against Arizona. Now granted
(43:40):
both of those on the road, they weren't at home,
but that's something you want to make sure you got down,
get all the snaps right, because again, any turnover in
this game is going to be the most constantly turnover
throughout the entire season because it is the rivalry game and.
Speaker 8 (43:51):
I don't know what the weather was like last week
at Arizona. At that point in the game, you know
there had been a lot whither it wasn't donation, and
as well in that West Virginia game there was also
some rain, So I think that could play a factor.
If you're telling me, the only two times he's had
high snaps both were in games where there was precipitation.
(44:13):
That to me me feels like you could chock it
up to an anomaly instead of if it had happened
on dry ground, dry land the whole time, then I'd
be a little bit concerned.
Speaker 6 (44:22):
But those ones might be random, just given that qualifier.
Just could be random given that qualifier, no doubt. But yeah,
whether definitely was the factor to Colorado loud environment first
time on the road. I think they'll have a dial,
no doubt against Utah. And again, limiting the penalties I
think was a big part of it as well, So
you gotta limit that in this game as well. Gotta
(44:43):
be game's gonna be one of lost in the trenches.
We all know that, so gotta make sure that you're
on point. You also want to make sure that you're
on point with advanced window products, Utah's number one window

interview that's still coming up right here.
Speaker 2 (45:25):
One oh three nine and ninety eight three
