Speaker 5 (01:37):
I appreciate it. I like being out here. I feel
good out here. Yeah, and I'm crazy for me. I
think it's crazy that we're outside, but you know, like
we were literally outside in a tent in front of
Crumbles Bro.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
I never think I'll be out here right now.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Well, dude, I'll just say I'm grateful you're here.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
That's good. I'm bressed up.
Speaker 5 (02:01):
I got my I got my I got my crocs
all with the fuzz on the inside, no socks, you.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
Know what I mean. I'm a real utarian dude. Like, so, like,
when did you move to Utah?
Speaker 2 (02:11):
How long you been in Utah, and like, how has
that transition been from the off season there in New
Orleans to present?
Speaker 5 (02:19):
Uh, well, I say, since I've been here. When I
got here, by you, I always lived here.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Okay, so you've always kind of lived here in the
off season.
Speaker 5 (02:26):
Yeah, I always knew I was gonna live here. Like
I got too many family members. I got two family
members that one living campus, my family out there, and
then I had family in South Jordan. So I've always
had ways of just being out here.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
And I love like I.
Speaker 5 (02:39):
Love Utah because this is really where I've learned about
true family members too, genuine genuine love people who actually
care for you so like, and I just love it
that they treat me just as a person and not
just what I do and who I am. You know
what I've done in my life as Accolade. So I'm
just grateful to be out here. And I really just
(03:00):
enjoy being out here and seeing my daughter too.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
She go out here.
Speaker 5 (03:03):
She is you Talian. She made me into one. So
I moved closer just so I could be closer to her,
and now she got her daddy all around. But it's
it's so funny because I went to her middle school.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
They had like a.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
A walker through a marathon, like, but they just walking
around running around the block, right, tell me why I
ran that thing three times? Like first, I was like,
but I really turned into a like a practice for me.
So I ran it with her. I told her, you know,
I'm a beat you on this. I'm just I'm gonna
beat you for sure. Then the second time, some kids,
them a little kids, like hey you, Jamal's like yeah,
it's like you want to go run. I was like,
(03:38):
all right, sure, you know I'm not gonna take down
a challenge. I'm gonna beat these little kids. I beat them.
And then the third time my daughter said let's run
another one. I'm like, oh man, all right, let's do it.
And I beat her on that one. And then after
I got done, I'm literally exhausted. I just got crowded
by a bunch of little kids pulling out shoes. Who's
(04:00):
putting out anything? They just hey, can't get an autograph.
I'm like, I want, first of all, I'm just like,
first of all, y'all too young to even know who
I am. But someone really new, like they like, I
know I'm getting old. When I hear man. I used
to watch you when I was young, when I was
a child, like, oh my god, only like ten years out.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
But I love it. It's great. I think it's even
more funny because my daughter be with me.
Speaker 5 (04:24):
And her face expressions of when she see like people
are crowding me and ask me for stuff. Because now
she's she kind of figuring out like all right, my
dad's he's cool.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Yeah he cool out here. Her face is like can
y'all back up? Like get away? This is my dad exactly,
like he's not that cool.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
And I love every minute of it because she's like
my spirit animal. I'd be my introvertesce, she's my spirit
animal about that.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
But you know, I'm respectful, humble, I'm grateful.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
For anybody to come up and you want, you know,
want an autograph or something. So but she's just great.
I just I love being out here being closer than her.
So and yeah, this is the most I've ever had
with it though. But we having so much fun though.
It's great.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Well, dude, obviously you know I can speak from like Cougarnation,
and I know you feel the love. Bu fans love you.
They they they love seeing you at the b YU Games.
Oh my god, you know what I mean, they you know, because.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
That's paid actors, by the way that I.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Pay Ronald Well. You know, I pay Ronald Well to
like say all these things. But it has been fun
to see you just in the community and have to
be what you games right, just coming back and you know,
supporting the squad and and seeing the young bucks these
you know, I know you you're close with Tyler and
and you're seeing l J run the ball and I
(05:42):
mean he boy on the.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
Head on the sidelines.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
Like those first two games, he'll redded and him not
you know, take you to the house. I'll be like
by like you gotta hook. I'm like you were pulling
up from Toledo when you were just like yeah, I
just because I just you know, we all like challenges. Love.
When I used to have people who were older than me,
(06:08):
or like people I looked up to, or people who
were just you know, they were better than me. Coaches, players,
people are of the lives and they were like, you know,
they on me saying, hey, you can do that, you
can do better. This is what you was supposed to
look at like a lone of a lot of us
had that like and I had Harvey for that, and
so when I was growing up, I had Harvey for it.
I still remember my freshman year going in and it
(06:29):
was him like taking me. I think it was Mike
David Foot was still there, they too, Paul uh Uh
Adam was Adam there too, My boy with the full
halt he played there for the Bengals, was it Uh?
(06:53):
And he was, And so I still remember that, like
in the summer my freshman year, just the people I
had around at the time, and then Harvey taking us
with drills and showing.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
Us, you know, just what he'd be going through. And
he was just showing, you know.
Speaker 5 (07:07):
Watching us and just giving us as much as he
can before that season. So I just try to do
the same for them and let him know, you know,
I'm always here for him. Just let them know they
always ask me anything. If you got questions about anything,
I help you with it.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
So I just love being back at just a place
that let me come back. Shoot, I could just walk.
Speaker 5 (07:26):
I'm glad I ain't got no access to the locker
room yet. I'm still trying to get that. You gotta
get that figure.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Pres Once I get.
Speaker 5 (07:32):
The fingerprint, I know I'm one hundred percent stilled in
here for sure.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
But I'm glad I could go there.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
They allow me to go and work out, stay in shape,
ready to go, like you know, just this new free
agency is what it is right now for me.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
But and I'm just blessed and I'm grateful to be
in just a.
Speaker 5 (07:49):
Positive area where I keep my mind set ready to
go and I'm ready to ready to play anytime, and
I have a place where I can just stay ready
and be blessed.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
You love that, man, Well, blessings be on you and
the fam. So grateful. I mean, I'm looking at your career,
Mat it's been awesome to she what you've been able
to accomplish in the NFL. But also like to me,
you know, obviously it's great to watch you do what
you do right and run the football, and especially that
that ye're in Detroit under Campbell where you toed it
for seventeen touchdowns all like setting records like and eclipsing
(08:19):
Barry Barry Sanders record, like like I grew up with Barry.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Like that, I get all that credit to my line.
Speaker 5 (08:27):
I give my credits to DC, Ben Jonson and Deuce
just for them for just believe in me and just
in my abilities and what I do as a runner
and how I ran the ball, and for them to
put me in the right positions and the right places
for me to excel at what I do.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
So I appreciate.
Speaker 5 (08:44):
Them so much for that, just for knowing me as
a player and knowing how I ran the ball and
knowing how to make me excel. I appreciate them for
fooding me in those opportunities.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Well, it's always been violent. It's always been downhill. It's
always been like fos scurity. It's always been like just
like run through face. That's what That's what you've been
doing since you know. I mean when I pulled up
tape from from high school, you know, and in the
know Fontana, like what you guys were doing out there.
It's always been you know, Jamal Williams brand of running
the football.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (09:15):
Hey man, you told I remember you're like sixteen. I
remember being in the locker room. You're like sixteen years old,
fifteen years however old you were. You're like a on
a visit and you're in the locker room postgame. I
see his bright eyed, like Jamal Williams kind of underrated underrecruiter.
I'm like, and I'm talking to coaches and they're like,
this guy's gonna be great. Uh, this guy's gonna be
(09:36):
the future if we can get them here. And you
got some late offers and somehow, some way, boy, you gotcha.
And I remember chatting with you about your recruitment and
you gave it's all about mentorship, right, You're talking about
mentoring these guys. You've had great mentors as well, Luke Harvey, like,
you go down the list of great mentors.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
But I believe your recruiter, if I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
Was the officer Mark Weber White Mark Weber bro dog man, dude.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
I love him so much. His bald mustache, that's my guy.
Speaker 6 (10:04):
Man.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
People don't know that, Like I mean, I've tweeted it
out before, but people don't know that Mark Webber was
your recruiter and got you the provo.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
Yeah, he my dog he. I appreciate it for everything.
Speaker 5 (10:15):
Even when I got down here, he let me come
to his house, hang out, chill until I got to
my feet. And then he the reason I met one
of my Utah families because he introduced us at One
of my sisters has spider Biffield and she was a
true Blue hero, but she she was a Triublue hero
where I wasn't here yet, but I met them at
the True Blue reunion every year, so I met her
(10:37):
my my younger brother stocked it at the same time.
And then from that day it went from I got
invited to Sunday dinner to like that was like once
a month, to every other week to every week to
should we start telling that he part of the family now?
Because I just can't. I was like, can I come
over there more than just Sunday?
Speaker 3 (11:00):
I just got done with the practice, got come up. Yeah.
I was like, cauz, this is this is literally family.
Speaker 5 (11:06):
Like I it was the first time I actually like
play board games, apples to apples and stuff like that.
Like I never played family board games, and like it
was part of like the family week, you know what
I mean. This is really where I actually learned just
just genuine love. Like for me, it wasn't I didn't
have all that well, I didn't have that growing up.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
Really.
Speaker 5 (11:27):
I'm grateful for my mom and how she raises me
and my sister, but we didn't have the I didn't
have the vision of what a whole family looked like,
and what a week of genuine love is with a family,
And so just to like being that for when I
was in college and being able to have that till
now and forever now, I'm just grateful for it. It's
(11:48):
just a blessing. I'm grateful for coming here because I
didn't know what was in store for me. I just
was just enjoying the ride. But I'm just blessed for
all the positive people that came out of this. I'm
grateful for being here now to be able to do
the same thing as in spread the joy, spread blessings,
spread the ones that they look up to me. Just
(12:09):
know how I'll help you any way I can if
you need advice, Like I'm not just letting you know.
I'm still introvert though I like being decided by myself.
Trust me, we could. I could not talk to you
for ten years and still come look at you and
be like, hey, brother, you good, you look great. I
love you, man, just like I never know now a
day go by.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
Well, I would describe you as an intro extro The
natural tendency is to be introverted, but you can be
the life of the party, which all you know what
I mean, Like, even though you don't like to be
you can be right, Like it's not it's not something
you seek, it's not something you.
Speaker 5 (12:44):
Enjoy, right, I love to be a what's it called
a chameleon, chamelion, the power invisibility, the power of amnesia,
Like though, just put it in your head just to
forget me real quick, that'd be great.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
Well that I was mentioning, like, you know before we
went off on this tangent, like, obviously the career has
been awesome, but the thing that I've loved most watching
you throughout your career is like typically like when you're
engaged with the media or the community, riding your bikes
into Lambeau right with the kids, you know, being in
a post game or even you know, preseason or kind
(13:20):
of a camp conversation and you're going off on.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
Whether it's anime or you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
You know, like whatever's on the mind of Jamal in
that moment, going off on it and having fun with
it and letting people see who you really are off
the field. That's what I've probably enjoyed the most. And
we got to see that.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
At b y U two, Right, but not his Outstoll
right into my flow at that time.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
I'm still a little kid. Bro.
Speaker 5 (13:47):
I just seen who put it up, Alani Hellaniu. He
put up a video of me like dancing on on
us and I'm just like, man, I'm like, I'm wearing
a bucket hat. I was like, I used to wear
bucket hats everywhere. Pink Bugget had eight thing like.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
That was me. I loved it. Though, I loved it.
I just love seeing myself now and be like, Bro,
I used to.
Speaker 5 (14:09):
Wear straight Bugget heads everywhere. The bucket had madiag Bro.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Bro, I remember when you when you first broke out
onto the scene.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
I think it was the Georgia Tech in which one Nah,
it wasn't. I say it was the Hawaii.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Oh actually, you're right Hawaii, because Michael Lisha got injured
in that game and then you came in.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
Yeah, I remember, and we love Michael.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
Shout out to Michael like obviously like it sucked that
he got injured because he was falling that year he
was and but the young buck you know, was waiting
in the wings Jamal Williams, and then you know, you
bawled out there and that was the break. But I
felt like the Breakout. Breakout game was a Georgia for you,
I mean for Georgia Tech. Like it was like, hey,
it was the first start. It was like you got
high volume right, Like it was kind of like that
(14:49):
was your game, bro, where I'm like, dude, this seventeen
year old the towel you were like one hundred and
ninety pounds soaking wet. The towel was flowing, you know
what I mean. Like I go back on the watch
that Georgia Tech game. I'm like, Bro, that was That's
when we knew like something special was happening.
Speaker 5 (15:04):
I think I think I loved it just so much
for my teammates, especially like Riley and all the just
the older players who've been playing like to embrace me
so quickly and like like bring me with them and
not hinder me or trying to stop me from being great.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Like I appreciate them so much.
Speaker 5 (15:21):
Like I'm watching somebody, like I really go back and
just go on YouTube and just watch our highlights of
each other, just even games. Sometimes it's not even me
in them, it's just I just like watching it just
because it's fun to just see my friends and how
much fun he was having on there, I just I
appreciate Riley because Riley was so fun. Bro rileyse it
was a fun quarterback that.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
He gave me, Like.
Speaker 5 (15:46):
I don't want to compare him to that, but he
gave me like miracle miracle players you don't know, want
you going to get. I remember being at him versus
Utah State in the stands.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
With my mom. Oh lord, being in the stands for
my mom.
Speaker 5 (16:03):
But my mom, she she's a real super fan once
she gets into it, and especially if I'm on the
team or something and I'm not even there yet. We
literally are there for a visit and we literally watching Riley,
you know, bring the comeback for them to get to win.
And my mom literally ended up almost getting in a fight,
getting in a fight at the game with a Utah
(16:24):
State fan.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
And it's two thy and eleven.
Speaker 5 (16:27):
I think it was when I was little, Like I
still I'm like, gosh, like my mom literally about to
argue right behind the bitch.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
Everybody turning around looking.
Speaker 5 (16:35):
I'm like, dang, I'm about to I'm not even about
to get into school already, because.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 5 (16:43):
But you know, from that point on, there and Braceley,
they're like, oh yeah, we like what's happening here? But
I just loved very minding of it. Man, being at
b y U was different, a different, different experience for me.
I will say that it's my first time being at
a place. The first thing I thought was there's no
trash on the ground, where's.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
The graffiti at I'm like, why is it? So?
Speaker 5 (17:05):
It's just it's chill, Like it was my first time
seeing chill. This is my first time actually being around
a whole bunch of white people too.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
And then it was like, you know, I mean it
was it's chill.
Speaker 5 (17:18):
It was much How can I say it was much
uptight when I was going up to be Yu. It's
much chiller than it is. Oh my gosh, it's not
even close. It's not even cluseuse to the same. We
we had bishops everywhere. You couldn't go nowhere without somebody thinking.
(17:39):
You think you're gonna get away with something. Bishops, these
bishops in the corners, but you don't know what, man,
bishops with helmets, songs, some teammates being bishops. It was
a great time, man, I tell you, like it was
a by you gave me into it, the survivor up
down bro, like man learning how to make fire. I
(18:06):
got I found my routine quick. I was like, I'm
about to be in a house. You ain't never gonna
find me. Nobody's gonna hang out with me because but
everybody felt like they were aged, Like mister Smith, I'm
a matrix about trying to tell trying to tell big,
big mission. What was everybody doing? It was bad that
(18:27):
in the day and I'm making a song. I'm old,
but I'm just saying man for me as a black man,
not being LDS. I love being here, but it was
it's different, It's different.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
I loved it though it was a great times. Well,
I know it's.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
Transformative, right, but you bring up some really good points
and uh like, I mean I remember, like I like
when you got to be what I started into the
media world and I and I brought up the concept
to people of the double minority and how difficult it
is for non LDS African American man march like assimilate.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
Into our culture.
Speaker 5 (19:02):
And when I say seeing another black person on campus,
I literally it to three.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
Miles three miles away.
Speaker 5 (19:09):
But I made it into a game because I don't
know why, but a lot of when you see another
black person for some reason, they don't want to look
at you and give you the what's up? And I
learnally i'd be like I was waiting on it. I
was like, oh, like I see it, what's up? My brother,
and I'll be waiting on it, and they never look
at me like they don't see me.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
I'm like, come on now, bro, hey, i gotta shed
some light. Ben. I think the reason why it happens
because I know what Jamal is talking about.
Speaker 5 (19:37):
Because you see one, you're like, oh, and they look
you like they think they're the most important person, you know,
because they've never seen it. I don't know, I don't
know what he's talking about. But for me, for me,
I was just trying to say, hi, that's it. I
was trying to say what's up. But they they never
looked bad at me. But you know, I just let
it be. You know, b Y, you was great though.
(19:58):
I let you know. It's the funniest time ever. I
missed class one time because there were deers in front
of the walkway. I didn't miss it. I was late
and I was not messing with them deer. It was
a mama and two of them little things. I already
knew I never seen deers in my life. I never
seen deers so close to me in my life. So
I literally just sat there until they moved, and I
(20:20):
sat there for a good twenty minutes. And then I
told my teacher, and I think it was Professor Ogletree too.
It was it was, it was, it was Ogle Tree. Yeah,
I think it was o Tree because a little bit
more grace. Probably he had grace.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
Yeah. I love I love learning about booking woman from him.
He cool.
Speaker 5 (20:43):
He's good because he because he let me, He let
me go with my mind on what I think about it.
Because booking like the book and Morman class, I will say,
do they still make them take it?
Speaker 3 (20:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (20:52):
Yeah, Oh so you got to learn the defeats the Lamanites.
Speaker 5 (20:57):
My favorite thing to do in there was to see
I was. I bet myself in my head, I'm still
I'm in class. I'm trying to learn, but I have
a side quest in my head, and my side quest
to see how many people cry today? Because most of
the times I ain't gonna lie to you. I love Jesus,
I love God, I respect all religion. But when I
(21:19):
be in there and I'm I'm listening to people who
are lds.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
It just sounded like.
Speaker 5 (21:24):
It was a competition to see who was the most
holy and some holies, that's all.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
And it is like people were crying over the most
basic little things.
Speaker 5 (21:33):
And I'm just like, okay, I don't think you get
extra extra hey for this clood. It was a great time.
I very respectful though I loved I loved every many.
I was learning a lot, like very informational. But for me,
(21:54):
I have side I be having side quests in my
head because I just like to I just be paying
attention to everything.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
I'm very sensual, a waste.
Speaker 5 (22:02):
Awareness of everything. I'm paying attention. It was a great time, bro,
you expect from a seventeen year old in college. Let
you got to be here and I've listened to things
that I had never heard before in my life.
Speaker 7 (22:18):
Well, all I say is like, I know, there's a
tremendous amount of gratitude on on BYU side that you
were able to experience these things and add value.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
It was these experience, you.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
Know what I mean, Like it's symbiotic too, like and
you mentioned kind of the transformative nature even over that,
like from when you were there right Like, I can't
tell you how many times, I'm like, look like it's
about perspective, right, and you need to have You're only
as good as the anecdotes that you have, right, these
like personal experiences, So your personal experiences built up.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
Prior to YU.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
And then you're like, oh my gosh, like all these
personal experiences and they got long hair everywhere Brady hair.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
How much different it is now? Though, Like, my god,
you could have got pretty crazy with the dreads. You know,
it could have come men style.
Speaker 5 (23:06):
But I remember I started getting I started getting tattoos
while I was here at b y U. My favorite
thing ever is when I started getting tattoos. Minute he said,
he said it was like a passive aggressive but he
don't like he's letting me know, but he's not saying nothing.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
He was like, oh noether tattoo. Huh.
Speaker 5 (23:28):
I was like, yeah, you know, just a little bit
and get that sleepwork. And then after after that one,
I stopped. After a minute, I was like, all right,
I'm gonna take it. Take a little time on the
next tattoo because I see he's paying attention my dog.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
I love it. He's so funny.
Speaker 5 (23:44):
He the only one that got me afraid of perfect
tens He got me so afraid of like every.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
Time I walked to a sideline, bring it.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
I feel like he just create like like we didn't
mess it up, you would just make you do it again,
just to do it again.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
It was horrible.
Speaker 5 (24:03):
That was dead that I would say by far, any
training camp I've ever done that was probably men and
all days of the two days those are bad. Those
are some bad days, bro. Running running stairs in Lavelle
Elware Stadium is pretty bad too.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
I remember throwing up on those a lot. That was
fun though.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
Well, Jamal, you know, love and appreciate you. So blessed
to have you here. Thanks for coming out and supporting
and hanging out with us. And and hopefully you got
some good Trouble cookies.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
And you know I only give you one of those. Bro.
Speaker 5 (24:38):
You gotta watch yourselves. Yeah, I'm just letting you know.
If you eat those every week, you got a problem.
Speaker 6 (24:45):
Bro.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
Know you better be working out a lot too.
Speaker 5 (24:49):
Yeah. Well, first of all, if you eat more cookies
than days that you work out, you definitely got a problem.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
Yeah, but that's gonna that's gonna be one of your
you know, like coming from la and you know, show
cal area.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
Like baby, I'm from l A.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
I'm okay, Okay, I there you go, Okay, I apologize
for that.
Speaker 5 (25:09):
Nine is the same way backwards, all right, all right,
go ahead.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
No.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
But like the amount of sugar we consume in Utah,
pretty insane.
Speaker 5 (25:18):
Oh, I've been drinking like zero sugar. Things like, you
gotta limit it, the more you limit it. I started
learning more about parasites and all that.
Speaker 4 (25:26):
Bro.
Speaker 5 (25:27):
Like, getting older is scaring me because I'm the more
knowledge I get, the more paranoid I'm getting.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
So don't I tell no more education, no more, no
more learning all these things.
Speaker 5 (25:39):
It's good though, I like learning, just because I have
a daughter now, I try to get her as much
prepared as possible. I'm not a h what's called a
fantasy type of parent that like to keep them in
the bubble with You're a pragmatist, Oh, I'm an anime character.
I get minds ready to go to war at the
age of seven. I love her though.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
She's a great princess. Shout out to.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
You your wonderful family, Jamal, many blessings to be upon you.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
And uh well she at the rivalry game, right, Yeah,
I'm going Okay.
Speaker 5 (26:09):
Sometimes i'mouna say I'm not going, so nobody think I'm going,
but I'm not going, not going, but maybe I'm going.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
We're gonna be yu though. We're gonna win this. We
gotta get that. I need it. Boy, I'm about to go,
And no, I'm not gonna mess with him.
Speaker 5 (26:22):
I'll wait till after the game because if they got it,
I ain't gonna mess with them.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
They're doing good.
Speaker 5 (26:27):
They had me ah iffy in that Virginia game. They
it was just it was just the option that pissed
me off. That was pitched me off.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
But other than that, we're gonna be all right.
Speaker 5 (26:39):
We're gonna say, calm, cool, collected, we're gonna get this win,
and we're gonna keep it pushing like they it's only
big because it's rifle over. But for us, if you
just keep it normal, keep it calm, we're gonna.
Speaker 3 (26:50):
Be all right. For us. We didn't get it when
I was playing. Oh my gosh, I'm so pissed. Bro.
I never beat Utah, But for me, it was like
guys had another sixteen.
Speaker 5 (27:01):
Man, I'm laughing at them for me, because it's just
so much pressure we put on ourselves for what this
is is just a normal game that you.
Speaker 3 (27:10):
Can literally go out and win.
Speaker 5 (27:12):
That if we don't even think about it like that,
we just and we go out like a regular game,
we would be good. So but I don't think they
have the same problems as we had, you know, so
they'll be all right. They cool, Kyle collected, they got swagged.
They're they're young ones. Now, this is a different era.
They out here to celebrate. Come on, bro, they get
to celebrate and I can't. I don't even do much.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
You only got one of your.
Speaker 5 (27:36):
I'm greatful for him though. That was a great year too.
I really wish I did have him from all four.
So these players are are blessed to have him for
who he is as a person personality, the way he
coaches is the way how he leads, he shows.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
He is a true leader. So I follow Colooney through the.
Speaker 5 (27:52):
Wall, follow him through a minefield.
Speaker 3 (27:56):
Right, He's the best man, Jamal.
Speaker 2 (27:59):
We appreciate you and enjoy the rest of your day
to hang out with us. I know there's fans that
want to interact with you. Much love to you and
your family.
Speaker 3 (28:06):
Bro.
Speaker 5 (28:06):
I got somebody try to take a picture with me
and didn't know who I was. So if you come
up to me and you and you see other people
just taking pictures with me and you just want a picture,
I'm going to question you and I'm going to say,
do you know who I am? If you don't know
who I am, I'm just gonna make it weird for
you that you're trying to take a picture with somebody
you don't know. That's all I'm saying. Don't don't be
out here taking pictures with people you don't know people.
(28:29):
That's very weird. I'm just saying. Then, another thing, if
you see me around Utah, please don't go up and
walk up on me, walk up on a black man
in Utah and say what are you doing here?
Speaker 3 (28:41):
That's the last thing you can say.
Speaker 5 (28:43):
You're not supposed to say it, Like, I know what
you're trying to say, but that's not the first thing
you you should lead with. You should introduce yourself first.
You know, it's a little weird. It gives me get
out vibes, you know, but I know it's coming from
a great place. You just don't know, but I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
I always say it's due more so to ignorance than
it is anything raw so you listen to me.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
Yeah, all right, all right, Mike, what are you doing here?
What all right? What you mean when I'm all right?
All right, Joe, we gotta go to break love. You
appreciate your We're at.
Speaker 2 (29:16):

getting your prep, getting you ready for the BYU Utah
rivalry game. The Holy War Bred always bringing the hammer
by my side, Big fram on the social and we're
gonna get into a little college football segment. It's going
to be brought to you by RGS six Steriors RGS
six steers.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
Utah dot com.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
If you're looking for a fantastic company to make your
house look even better than it already looks. The exterior
hom remodeling company that's says with quality results, siding, gutters, windows,
custom metalwork, you name it. They got you covered. Eight
o one nine ninety seven sixty six one six. That's
eight to one nine ninety seven six six one six.
(30:57):
We'll welcome in. Tim Brown of RG sixteers here momentary.
Let me know when you got him on the line, Andrew,
and we'll welcome him in. But we're getting prep getting
you ready for the BYU Utah rivaly game BYU. Entering
the twenty twenty five season, they were ranked actually ninth
in total wins and they're still in the top ten
(31:18):
over the last.
Speaker 3 (31:19):
Fifty years because six and o six and zero back
to back.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
Seasons is something that needs to be celebrated, obviously, but
we're hoping for more, hoping for another win, hoping to
stay undefeated. Right over the last fifty years, BYU has
done more with less, in my opinion, than any other
program in the country.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
Per dollars spent, BYU.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Has won more games than any other football program in
the country.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
And now now.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
That BYU has the resources, now that they have the
TV revenue, now that they have nil and donors backing
the student athletes mentoring them, BYU is on a trajectory
right now that I think is extremely impressive. I opened
up the initial segment with the question, has BYU, okay
(32:19):
been Are they finally turning the tables right now? Are
they finally flipping the script of the rivalry game? Utah
had a fifteen year essentially head start, maybe less than that,
let's say, thirteen year head start on BYU before BYU
got some additional resources from a P four conference, Okay,
(32:41):
And now it only took you know, two years, three
years for BYU to become better than the University of Utah.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
That's crazy.
Speaker 2 (32:52):
Let's discuss it in this college football segment with Tim
Brown of RGS six Tiers.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
Timmy, how you living? Hey? You know what?
Speaker 6 (33:00):
Life's good? I literally just pulled off the sideline of
a JV football game to do the call and nothing better. Man,
talking to you watching a little JV in the corner
of my eye.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
I love it, man, I appreciate you joining me for
a quick segment. Is it a surprise to you at
all that BYU was able to catch up b Y's
on a two game winning streak now in the rivalry game? Okay,
in those Holy war you tied a thirteen year head start,
and now BYU has caught up to them, maybe even
surpassed them.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
We'll see how it plays out this year. Is that
a surprise to you? Well?
Speaker 6 (33:36):
No, and the reason being is because the game has
changed and calls fade is faded. It's really based on money.
When you're able to throw money out of you're able
to get players. And look, no matter who the coaches are,
Jimmy's and Joels win coaches right, win games, not coaches,
And so when you get good players you can do
some good things. And money buys good players, and that's
just the reality players. That's just the reality.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
I mean money buys good coaches too, right, money buys
good infrastructure and organizational design. You've been running or steers
for a long time. You need the internal and external components.
Speaker 6 (34:11):
Look, there's no question about it. And Jay Hill is
a big part of it, right, that's a big part
of this. And you've got an amazing coach. Frankly could
be a head coach anywhere in the country, and he's
here with us. It's it's pretty spectacular.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
B Yu is uh six and zero right now.
Speaker 2 (34:28):
And the storylines surrounding this particular rivoy game is Look,
you match these two teams up side by side, statistically, metrically,
efficiency wise, they look exactly the same. They mirror each other.
What will be the difference in this game? Do you think, uh,
(34:49):
who's gonna win it?
Speaker 6 (34:51):
Well, to me, it's all based on player helps or
by us beat up a little bit right now, you know,
the linebacker or a little bit of the safety corps.
If we can overcome that, we can get healthy. I
think that's going to be the difference in the game.
Really is is everybody healthy?
Speaker 3 (35:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (35:11):
Well, Jack Kelly will be playing well? That Does that
turn the tide a little bit?
Speaker 3 (35:14):
Right? Does Jack Kelly being.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
Healthy and playing in this game make you more optimist
than that?
Speaker 3 (35:19):
B Why he comes out victorious, no question.
Speaker 6 (35:23):
Had he played against Arizona, I think it would have
been a different game. Obviously we ultimately won, but I
don't think it would have been as close. I don't
think it would have taken an overtime game to win
had he played and had he been, you know, ultimately healthy.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
Last thing, Tim, what are some of the deals you
have there at RGS six seers. Why should our listeners
give you a call if they need any siding, gutters,
window work, custom metal work, exterior, your work on their home.
Speaker 6 (35:51):
Well, really, the biggest thing that we're just trying to
get to customers, especially this week as we've been on
a lot, is we're just trying to hammer it home.
To give us a call now because the snow's coming,
you know, Park City. I don't know if everyone knew
that or not, but I got a couple inches this morning.
You know, they woke up to several inches of snow.
You look at the mountains even right now as I'm
looking at the Watat's front, we've got snow coming down
lower than in the past, so it's coming. So we
(36:12):
just want to get customers to be aware of that
and we'll get their home done before the big winners come.
So to do that, we're really just trying to encourage
him to call now, send an appointment, and by doing that,
we'll just give him a Minky Gator blanket for just
booking an appointment, no obligations all. They don't have to purchase.
Just get us there, get us in your home, give
us an opportunity to earn your business, and we'll bring
you a blanket.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
If Utah doesn't beat BYU, If Kyle Whittingham loses three
straight to BYU two end his career, Let's say he
retires after this season.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
Does that solely his legacy at all in your opinion?
Speaker 6 (36:48):
No way. Look, he's a legend, just like coach Max,
a legend. Coach Whittingham's done everything he's needed to and
then some. He's helped the state of Utah. He's put
Utah on the app Not at all. Whatever happens this
year and frankly last year, does not in my mind,
does not change at all. Who kywit again is changing.
Speaker 3 (37:10):
All love it, Timmy. We appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (37:13):
Invite everyone to check out RGS exteriors eight A one
nine ninety seven sixty six one six eight A one
nine ninety seven sixty six one six RG six series
Utah dot Com.
Speaker 6 (37:23):
Thanks Tim, Thank you much and have an amazing day.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Thank you all right, you too, man. Good luck on
that JV football game. Appreciate him. A little college football
segment getting into some of the news and notes of
the day in the college football world, talking some of
these topics related to the rivalry. David Portnoy, by the way,
Stool Presidente, getting to know he's in Root, by the way,
he's in route to provo now stool Presidente and barstool sports.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (37:52):
He's beginning to become familiar. I think the national media
is becoming familiar with the story of this particular rivalry game,
the stories, the crazies, the volatility, the violence of this
particular holy war.
Speaker 3 (38:11):
And as they.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
Get to know this rivalry game, I believe they will
begin to they will begin to revere it as one
of the best rivalry games in college football. Thank goodness,
BYU and Utah are in the same conference. Thank goodness
they're in the Big twelve. Right, Thank goodness, they're in
(38:33):
the power structure together.
Speaker 3 (38:35):
Now.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
It took too long. When should it have occurred? Probably
should have occurred at least for BYU. They should have
been included in the power structure, probably in the nineties,
probably in the early nineties. They had earned it through
their football prominence in power through the late seventies, early
(38:59):
eighties and into the early nineties.
Speaker 3 (39:02):
They should have been included.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
Utah they kind of invested a little bit more aggressively
in nineteen ninety.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
When did they finally earn it?
Speaker 2 (39:13):
They earned it probably when they got it two thousand
and eight, twenty and ten, two thousand and nine. Those
were the years, right that they earned it. They earned
it through the Urban Meyer era. They earned it through
the early era of Kyle Whittingham. But now it's great, right, Yes,
(39:34):
it took a little bit too long, longer than I
would have expected.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
But now they're in the same conference.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
Do you, as Cougar fans, believe that this BYU Utah
game is the biggest in rivalry history?
Speaker 3 (39:51):
Chime in on that.

Speaker 2 (42:33):
Carson Ryan went in front of the media yesterday had
some interesting things to.
Speaker 3 (42:39):
Say about this BYU Utah robbery.
Speaker 2 (42:42):
Game. Will start off with number one, have you been
chatting with Have you talked with any of your old
teammates this week? Not much chatter, not much talk and
(43:09):
leading up to the game, maybe after once the dust settles,
maybe you know, give it at like a twenty four
hour wait period, wait, maybe forty eight hours if you
need to. Whoever wins will get ultimately the bragging rights,
especially as it pertains to these these players that have
played on both sides of this rivalry. Very few have
(43:32):
done that. On Utah side, we've talked about the cross pollination.
I thought it was interesting that John Henry Daily I
don't know if you guys saw this or not, and
Logan Fano, they were both featured in the Jersey reveal,
the uniform reveal on social media from the University of Utah.
(43:52):
John Henry Daily and Logan Fano both former BYU Cougars
that transfer to the University of Utah. Okay, doing pretty
nice things, doing uh nice things up there. Yeah, I
I I I've been impressed with John Henry Daily and
Logan Fano up there. They've done great things.
Speaker 3 (44:12):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (44:12):
They're looking to uh to prove themselves in this rivalry game,
no doubt about it. On our side, Carson Ryan, Right, Keanutnavasa,
both big pickups in.
Speaker 3 (44:24):
The portal for BUYU and UH.
Speaker 2 (44:26):
Debate rate the debate ragers on who's benefited more from
the portal Utah or b YU Uh when you cross
pollin eight as we've seen over the last decade. Now
number two, Carson Ryan, how does this rivalry stack up
with the U c L a USC rivalry you played in? Yeah,
(45:19):
big time game. Look, it's it's all about perspective. You're
in the state of Utah.
Speaker 5 (45:25):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (45:26):
You guys know how how crazy this rivalry is, has been.
Speaker 3 (45:31):
And will continue to be.
Speaker 2 (45:33):
Now that you always in the same conference, it just
means a little bit more. It's a big time and
uh you said, you usc it's definitely you know, from
an iconic rivalry standpoint, it's one of the best, especially.
Speaker 3 (45:46):
On the West coast.
Speaker 4 (45:48):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (45:48):
But you never know, b Yu, Utah with more becoming familiar.
Speaker 2 (45:51):
With it may possibly surpass that from a national Uh,
you know, just from a national perspective.
Speaker 3 (45:57):
Number three, Carson, how do you.
Speaker 2 (46:00):
Balance knowing this isn't any just to any other game, Well,
keeping your emotions in check.
Speaker 4 (46:09):
Then you know you can't take that away that it
is a rivalry, like you said, but you just gotta
go on treat like another football game. Just play your
game and just trust your process and know whatever they
will work out for the best.
Speaker 2 (46:18):
So Andrew, just so you know, the the apparently the
the air or the sound is not going across the airwaves.
You just got to text from a listener. Okay, all right,
so let's play that one again. Let's go ahead and
play that one again.
Speaker 3 (46:34):
Balance knowing if you try to make it something more
than it is.
Speaker 4 (46:37):
And you know you can't take that away that it
is a rivalry, like you said, but you just gotta
go on treating like another football game. Just play your
game and just trust your process and know whatever they
will work out for the best so.
Speaker 3 (46:49):
They go.
Speaker 2 (46:50):
You gotta balance it all out, right, don't get over
the emotional Jamal said it best you just go out
and do you right. Just go out and do what
you're supposed to do. The moment shouldn't be too big
in this rivalry game. Don't change anything anything. Number four,
how would you evaluate your season thus far?
Speaker 4 (47:07):
I thought it's been a really good season so far.
I'm really happy with how I've done. I think I
can always do better, and that's a lot of room
for improvement, you know, and all aspects of my game,
and that's what I'm always striving for. But now I'm
really happy with myself being able to affect the game
in a lot of different ways and the run game, blocking,
pass blocking, you know, catching the ball too. So it's
it's one of the reasons I came here and it's
something that I'm really happy that I've developed and helped
to continue to develop the rest of the season.
Speaker 3 (47:30):
Love hearing from Carson Ryan. Let's get into number five.
Speaker 2 (47:33):
What's the difference in preparing for this game between BYU
and your time while at Utah.
Speaker 4 (47:39):
I mean, for both sides, it's a big deal. It's
a big game, and so you know, you want to
go out, you want to win that game and go to.
Speaker 3 (47:45):
Give your all.
Speaker 4 (47:45):
So we we try to treat it like every other game,
you know, not to you know, make it something more
than it is and just make it another.
Speaker 3 (47:52):
Game for us.
Speaker 4 (47:53):
To just keep our same routine, our same process and
not try.
Speaker 3 (47:55):
To be different from who we are. Just keep trusting with.
Speaker 4 (47:58):
Got six and O so far and hopefully get to
seven to no.
Speaker 2 (48:03):
And then finally these last two from Courson Ryan. BYU's undefeated,
but yet you guys are the underdogs this week.
Speaker 3 (48:11):
How are you guys handling that internally?
Speaker 4 (48:13):
I mean, we always love being underlocked. That's how usually
it is air at BAU, and that's how it's kind
of been for a lot of our games this year.
We'll similar games, so you know, we embrace that and
we'll just take it with grant as all. Honestly, it's
just got we know what kind of team we are,
so we'll be out ready.
Speaker 3 (48:27):
To play, all right.
Speaker 2 (48:31):
Last one, what role did Aaron Roderick and his offense
play in your decision to come to Byuh.
Speaker 4 (48:39):
It's a big part of it, you know, talking with
them and coach Gilbriden, how they want to use me
and their system as a tight end is something that
I really see myself being as and I'm really happy
with how I've been able to be utilized this year
as a tight end, and you know, it's really helped
me develop my game, you know, just getting the reps
and be able to learn from great coaches who've been
in the NFL and have played at that level, coach
that level, and so it's been giving a lot of
(49:01):
opportunities to get better as a player.
Speaker 3 (49:04):
Hego.
