You will not be disappointed.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
All right, let's welcome in one of my favorite walk
ons all time in BYU football history.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
He played in this rivalry.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Game and unfortunately he did not get a win in
this rivalry game. But he's gonna tell us about you
know what he remembers about this rivalry game and teach
us a little bit about offensive line plate how it's
gonna be one and or lost in the trenches.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Former BYU great offensive line. We've got Parker daw here live.
Was a Parker what uh Man?

Speaker 3 (01:59):
Doing good, good, doing really good. Excited to be here
and excited to talk about the game.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
You were able to embrace your running back here Jamal.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Not too long ago he had to take off, But
how cool was he to reunite with.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Jamal oh Man? So many good memories with that guy.
It was great to see him. It's been a long
time since I've seen him.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
You know.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
It's it's crazy how the years go by and almost
a decade later, right, you know, but no, it was
great to see him.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
And man, I love playing with him.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
Some of the memories I had with Jamal is just
being in the huddle with him, you know, in those
big moments and the emotion that he had, right, Like
he played with so much emotion, so much passion, right
and just just a great leader right for our team
and ran super hard, and you know it was it
was great to see him.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Well, yeah, I felt like the offensive line they moved
the line of scrimmage well in that twenty sixteen game, close, right,
came down to the wire two point conversion.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
But do you would you agree with that assessment?

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Like when BYU wins this rivalry game, it's typically one
in the trenches.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
For whatever reason, right, every year we play, you know, Utah,
this rivalry game, I feel like it's always a close
game and always comes down to the wire. Obviously we
don't like that, right as bou fans, But you know,
the game is one of the trenches, right, And when
we played that twenty sixteen year in that game that
we lost in that two point conversion. Man, they had

(03:35):
Hunter Dimmick, they had a Mocha Fisi, they had Cody Barton,
a few guys that were just stars. Right, And remember
playing against those guys and preparing for that game and
just you know, knowing how tough their defense was and
how physical that they were. But we could have beat them, right.

(03:55):
I mean, we threw a pick six on the first
play of the game, and you know that was that
was my that was.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
My first moment in that game.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
And I remember thinking before the game started, like, man,
I'm about to play playing the biggest game in my career. Right,
And then we started off with the pick six and
you take that one play back, right, we win that game?

Speaker 4 (04:13):
Right.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
I could say that about any play. But you know, big,
big moments.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
Yeah, I mean this this game means a lot of community,
it means a lot of families, it means a lot
to these individual schools.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
It's a It's more.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
Than just a game, right, this is a This is
one of the biggest games I think on the West Coast.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
I think it's an underrated rivalry game.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
I think the nation is becoming aware just how special
and singular this rivalry game is from your perspective, right, Like,
where does it rank out amongst the best rivalry games
in college football?

Speaker 4 (04:50):
Oh, it's got to be one of the top games, right.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
I think I saw a statistic on social media the
other day that I think this is the most expensive game,
right or expensive seat that, yeah, anywhere in the country
right now?

Speaker 4 (05:04):
Yeah, this week, right now, this week.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
So I mean that alone just tells you the amount
of passion people have for this game. And now, obviously
you have the SEC and you've got some big rivalries there,
but you know, you see it in the interviews with
Kyle Whittingham and Killanney, right, Like, obviously there's a lot
of tension right between the schools.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
And a lot of passion in the community.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
Lots lots of stuff going on, but it's one of
the biggest rivalries in the country.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
What are some of the things that you're looking forward
to on Saturday six pm kickoff under the lights of Leavelle.
This offensive line, this defensive line. They've been tremendous thus
far this season. I know you've been able to watch
what stands out to you about the offensive defensive line
play thus far this year?

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Yeah, you know, watching the O line the past few years,
what I'm noticing this year is I feel like the
O line has had a few years with with the
coaching staff, and they're really playing in sync, playing in Unison.
They've got a young quarterback, right Verr Bachmeyer, and he's
he's very talented, done a great job this season.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
But they're playing really really well together.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
You know.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
Obviously Utah has got a great defensive front. They always
put together a great defensive front, you know. But one
of the things I want to see coming into this
game is I want to see us start fast right.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
You know.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
I feel like the games where we've struggled in years
past is where we take too long, right, we come
out of the gate second half right, or you know
vice versa. We come out playing strong and then we
end up you know, they get us from you.

Speaker 4 (06:43):
Know, when we're we're we're ahead.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
But man, if we could come out just playing fast,
being comfortable, being confident in our ability, I think I
think we take to win.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
The last few times boy wins this game, they don't
turn the ball over. That's another key component here. Win
the trench warfare game. Don't cough up the football, be
at least neutral or in the plus in the turnover
margin game.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Yeah, that helps, and so.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
When BYU even at times though even I want to
say that twenty sixteen game, I think we were plus
in the turnover margin even though we did give up
a pick six, but we still fell short that game.
It's hard to come back from a defensive score, even
a special team score, and win the game, even if
you are plus in the turnover margin.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely, yeah, I know, like thinking back in
that game and thinking about about that twenty sixteen game,
defense played lights out right, Yeah, that was a big,
big game for them, And then I think offensively, right,
we would get momentum in a drive and then you
know we would you know, turn the you know, have
a three and out and punt it and flip things around.

(07:53):
But I mean, ultimately, right, if we can, if we
can come into the game where defense is just playing
how they're playing, Hopefully everyone's healthy. Hopefully we got Jack Kelly,
you know, we got Isaiah Glasker coming in and playing ball,
and you know, I think that defensively we can shut
him down.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
I can't wait to see it.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
If you had the the ears of the b YU
Cougar football team prior to this game, right, just down
a practice or even the locker room.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
What's the message, what's the rocky.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
What's the message to this b YU Cougar football team
before they take the field versus the utes of the
North Man?

Speaker 3 (08:32):
I think Klaney said it best. They don't know, but
they're about to. You know, they don't know, but they're
about to know.

Speaker 4 (08:39):
Right.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
So, I mean at the end of the day, right,
be confident in your ability play at one play at
a time, trust the scheme, right, but you got to
play till that very last play, very last whistle. And
if we do that right, they're gonna have a They're
gonna have a memory that they're gonna think about the
rest of their life, you know, winning the game.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
Yes, indeed, ninety seventh meeting, long standing rivalry. BYU has
won the last two, but in the modern era, Utah
has dominated this rivalry. Post twenty ten, they went nine straight,
nine straight wins, and that's the longest winning streak in

(09:20):
this in this rivalry history. Now BYU had a nine
straight wins from like in the late seventies, early eighties,
right in their glory era, and from twenty ten to
twenty and twenty three that was the Utah glory era.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
They you know it, even going back two thousand and eight.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Probably two thousand and four, two thousand and four to
twenty twenty three, that was twenty years.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
Utah has been.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
A really good to great, some would say, elite football program.
And now right finally BYU has resources, TV money, nil backing,
free market, capitalistic, nil transfer portal market.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
They've been able to take advantage of it.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
Seems as if BYU is in a place where they've
already caught up to Utah despite the thirteen year head start.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
How impressive is that?

Speaker 1 (10:21):
And do you feel like BYU's caught up now after
being behind for thirteen years?

Speaker 4 (10:27):
Yeah? I do.

Speaker 3 (10:29):
You know, It's funny when my younger brother wyat Uh
walked on to BYU a few years ago. I actually
got a chance to talk to Colonie a lot about
that at one of the practices and I and I
asked him, I'm like, how is how is this all
working now with nil and recruiting and getting guys, Because
at that time, I think we'd saw a handful of
players leave from BYU and go to Utah and Keenan

(10:53):
Peelee right, is that who is well?

Speaker 1 (10:55):
Keenan went to Tennessee, j gave Judy Lowley went to Tennessee.
We have of John Henry Daily and Logan Fana went
to Utah. That's they're going to be your starting defensive
ends for Utah.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
Yeah, yeah, So I just remember talking about that, and
I remember Kilani said that they were doing everything in
their power, uh to to do what they needed to
do to make bou an elite program nationally. They're they're
not trying to be top twenty five, they're not trying
to you know, make it to the the Bowl game,
right like they want to win. They want to win
a national championship. Right, So that tells you a lot

(11:26):
about colom mentality. You know Tom Homa at the time
right now it's you know Santiago.

Speaker 4 (11:34):
You know, they want to win.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
And so I think that they're there where they want
to beat out with Utah.

Speaker 4 (11:39):
Right.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
They brought in Kyle Winningham, Right, they brought in previous
Utah or b a U Alum right, yep, Jason Beck,
Mike Simon boy Deptmer Right. I played with a lot
of those guys right, played under Jason Deck.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
You know.

Speaker 4 (11:56):
So I think that that that Utah you.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
Know that they're in a program they've done really well.
But I think BYU is right there with them with resources.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
Yeah, it's interesting the cross pollination between the two schools.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
Uh, there's been like trades, if you will, Harvey Longey
coming from Utah to b YU, didn't you you play
hard play with Austin Lee Utah to b YU. You know,
Carson Ryan from Utah to b YU, right ken of
Austin from Utah to b YU. Then you see like

(12:34):
Devin KUFUSI go from by.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
You see Logan and John Henry daily and there's been
cross pollination now in the coaching staff too.

Speaker 4 (12:45):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Like no other rivalry, no other no other universities have
what we're experiencing here in Utah. And I think that's
why Big Newton kickoffs here to familiarize themselves with this rivalry.
I think Dave Portnoy school presidente, you know, he's starting
to feel and realize what this rivalry is all about.

(13:06):
And it's going to be put on the map. This
is a big game this may be the biggest rivalry game.

Speaker 4 (13:13):
In the country, well in our history though.

Speaker 1 (13:16):
Yeah, like depending like this is a power conference now
both of both teams are looking to get to Arlington.
This may be a determining factor on whether or not
you get to Arlington to win a big TWOL championship
and get to the CFP.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
Yeah, you know what I mean, Yep, No, I get that.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
You know, it's it's uh, you know, I have a
lot of respect for for Jason Beck and you know
Cooy and Micah you know, like looking into you know,
their their scheme. It's been interesting to watch them play
this year, right because a lot of the concepts that
they're doing at the U is the same stuff that
I had played in under Anie right when he when
he was the offensive coordinator.

Speaker 4 (13:54):
But you know, it's you know, as far as going
back into the conference.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
Play, you know, like this is this has got to
be a nationally recognized game where people need to know
and feel right that there's tension, there's feelings, right, there's
emotions that go into this. I mean, you look at
Jason Beck and you look at these guys. They they
coached at by U, right, they played for BOYU Kyle

(14:19):
Whitningham played for BOU, Right, I mean Kilanne coach at Utah, Right.
A lot of the guys at BOU coached at Utah.

Speaker 4 (14:28):
Right.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
So these are guys that have been in the same
place for a long time. Right, they know each other,
they played with each other. You know that at one point, right,
they were brothers. Right, and then this week all that
tension and love and passion is all gonna come out
six pm.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
Crazy time. How do you think this game plays out?
What's your score prediction? Parker dob Are you gonna go
there for me?

Speaker 4 (14:54):
Ah?

Speaker 2 (14:55):
You ready to go on record?

Speaker 4 (14:56):
Right on record?

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (14:57):
Yeah, we can't put money on this, right?

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Well? No, well we could. We can do have a
friendly bet, you know we can. You and I can
do a friendly bet or something like that.

Speaker 3 (15:07):
I'm gonna go BYU. Let's say thirty one Utah fourteen,
thirty one to fourteen.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
Oh, that's a dominating.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
Dominating like if BYU wins and they win in a
convincing way and they put Kyle Whittingham into retirement with
three games straight of l's man, I don't I don't
know if there was any other way to balance out
that that would be the way to balance out this
rival even though you've been dominated right to a certain

(15:41):
degree from twenty ten to present day, Like forcing Kyle
Whittingham in retirement like that would be like the icing
the cherry on type of BYU fans.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
Like the fact that the PAC twelve died.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
And you can point to the fact that Utah was
a contributing factor to the PAC twelve vying because of
the way that they they had their internal media consultant
at the.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
University of Utah. I don't know if you know this.
No over evaluate the value of.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
Each individual pactal school in their negotiation with ESPN and Fox,
and so they came into it thinking, no, we're worth
more like fifty million per school, and ESPN's like no,
Fox didn't even want anything to do it.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
They were the former media rights distributor. They didn't even
come to the table.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
They're like, yeah, let whoever else wants to get it.
So ESPN's like, okay, well, this is your fair market value. No,
Utah's internal consultants said no, no, no, no, it's fifty million, right,
fifty million. So like that led to the destruction of
the PAC twelve. The Hubris, the pompous nature, right, and
then it forced them. They went kicking and stream. They

(16:49):
were the last ones there, like, fine, we'll go to
the Big twelve. Fine, but we believe we're Big ten
material because we're an our one research institution.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
And we owned the pact te well, right, we own.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
Like I'm giving you all this because it's like if
BYU forces Kyle Wittingham into retirement with three state losses,
I'm like.

Speaker 4 (17:11):
You think you do you think you'd retire?

Speaker 2 (17:13):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (17:13):
Yeah, No, I think he'd be forced to retire. I
think it'd be forced to retire. It'd be interesting, it'd
be interesting, Like I think it could come to that.
It could come to that, especially if bou wins by
like seventeen points, like you know what I mean, Like
like a thirty one to fourteen win.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
That's a dominating win in this rivalry game.

Speaker 1 (17:35):
Yeah, like anything above like anything at like above eight points,
it's like that's a good win. Oh yeah, because it's
not just like necessarily like a field game winning field
goal or ot game or a two point conversion.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
Game, you know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (17:50):
Do we have a stat on that?

Speaker 1 (17:52):
So out of the last thirty one game, So it'll
go last thirty years, thirty games nineteen and twelve. So
Utah's one nineteen games bas won twelve nineteen of those
are one score games.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
Wow, I can't insane.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
Yeah, I'm gonna keep my prediction thirty one fourteen, keeping it,
holding it.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Wow, that would be crazy.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
That would bounce out the universe, the Bayu fan universe.
They'd just like, yes, Like, I don't know which one.
They'd be happy about the fact that the PAC twelve
died ding Dong wicked, which is dead, you know, the
PAC twelve pack eight pack, then stiff arming BYU due
to you know whatever biggot you know, biggot tree that
they employed internally, right, religious bigotry and more.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
But whatever their justifications are, it is what it is.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
Or the fact like bau forcing Ky witting him in retire.
I don't know which one they'd rejoice more in, but
they'd be rejoicing this.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
This is a big game. This is a huge game. Parker,
doll ladies and gentlemen, Parker, give us a brief update.
What you're doing for work?

Speaker 4 (18:53):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (18:54):
Family, Yeah, everything's going great. Family is great, got four
kids now, just started coaching youth football.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
Talk about I've got.

Speaker 4 (19:01):
I'm coaching the A team and the B team.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
So that's been a party, trying to coach two things,
got both of our teams going to the semi finals.
Shout out to Mountain View Bruins. Let's go shout out
to the Bruins. It's been a new thing. I've been
went from PG wearing blue to Mountview wearing red down
there with Wannie Unga, he coach for Mountainview High School,
and Alani Fua and Louis La right coaching those guys.

Speaker 4 (19:28):
But it's been a blast. I'll tell you what.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
Never in my life did I think I was going
to be an offensive coordinator with a bunch of ten
year olds. But I'm slinging it right now, right every play,
you guys are just just ripping it right.

Speaker 4 (19:42):
Throw the slants.

Speaker 2 (19:43):
No, no power on game, none of that.

Speaker 4 (19:46):
Spread it out, air raid, air raid all day.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
No, I can't believe it.

Speaker 4 (19:50):
We run the ball, We run the ball. Get that
GT power you know coming in that little counteraction.

Speaker 2 (19:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (19:57):

I've been doing that and uh, you know, really just
focusing on my kids right now and our business and
trying to grow. We've got thirteen clinics now so between here, Utah,
Idaho and Arizona, and and just trying to balance that
being a dad and living my living my life right.

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist
