What you been writing about recently, Buddy.

Yeah, thinking about Matt Mitchell, the assistant quarterbacks coach, and
how he worked with Bear Backmeyern kind of got Bear
up to speed. Just posted the little article kind of
previewing the game Saturday, but the game two years ago
against Iowa State and how they beat BYU forty five
to thirteen, and how since that game, if BYU has

not suffered a multiple score game, so they've lost four
times and in all four of those games, four games.
So the kind of just looking back at that game
and how that was a key turning point really for
the Big Twelve. And so those are kind of the
two main ones that I've been working on recently. I've

been doing a lot of basketball. I'm just leaving Kansas
City now. I've been down here for the Big Twelve
basketball media days.

So there's a little bit of basketball.

Jay, So you've been down at Big Twelve media days
for this men's basketball squad what did you learn about
the basketball squad that you didn't know before.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
Yeah, that's a good question, you know.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
I think I learned that that and AJ are developing
kind of a good chemistry.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
They talked a lot about that bond.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
For Ritchie, it's a little bit of a change. He's
not the man this year like he was last year.
The ball's not going to go through him a lot.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
Or as much.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
He's really focused on getting better and also, you know,
working and getting along on the floor with AJ, and
so that'll be interesting to watch. So that was kind
of one thing I learned is how leaning into that chemistry,
I learned that Rob Wright is a really funny guys.

He was down here in Kansas City as.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Well, and and he's kind of emerging and maybe as
the the kind of the guy that keeps everybody loose
and focused.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
And those are a few things.

Kevin Young was kind of starting to, I think, feel
a lot more comfortable at these sort of things and
around his outfellow coaches. He wasn't There's a lot of
talk about this player who's I guess Louisville is going
to sign uh and it's all legal because apparently he's

not deemed a pro although he's played in the D League,
and Kevin Young basically said, hey, that's fine with me
that fans have played professionally and.

They come over here.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
For instance, Jegor Demon made money playing professionally, so that's
another interesting kind of element to it.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
And Kevin Young, it's, of course, is the league and
the G League, and he.

Says there's really no difference between those European guys and.

You know and the G League guys.

So he's all for a lot of other coaches, Kelvin
Sampson and others are totally against. So that'll be interesting
to watch. And I know by he was literally recruiting
a six' ten center From egypt who is in THE
G league right. NOW i can't remember his name, exactly
but so it'll be interesting to see how that all plays.

Out, YEAH i, thought are you on which side of
the kind of the?

Ale are you on on this a good thing or
a bad thing for college? Basketball and do you think
it's the same as the you, know The Yegor, demons
or The Election coastics or them high low bucket witches
coming over from international professional leagues and playing collegiately for
a few, years like what's the difference?

Stand and then you, know is there an equivalent to
see from international professionalism TO G league.

uh perhaps not being as above board as they are

wild west of rule breaking and players selling and all,
that AND i think that's kind of been cut out
of the equation, now SO i GUESS i would lean
towards just letting it, all just allowing it to, happen
and as long as they're not on two way contracts

ABSOLUTELY i, MEAN i can't even nitpick, anything to be
honest with. You everything's been really really, good and you,
know Beating utah is kind of a cherry on top
for byu.

playing a freshman quarterback and they kind of think the

Together a outstanding coaching staff With Jay hill And Aaron,
roderick really good, coordinators and.

respect has been slow to.

SO i Think Big twelve probably took a hit a
little bit With oklahoma And texas. LEAVING i think they're
not considered up, there up to par with The Big

be a lot of cannibalism with The Big. TWELVE i
think we'll start seeing it this weekend if we haven't.
Already Where, uh there's just no dominant team and so

week A Texas tech los In Arizona state After Arizona
state was you, know boat raced By. Utah so, YEAH
i THINK i think that's a good. POINT i don't
think The Big twelve as a whole gets respect to
those other two conferences THAT i MENTIONED sec.

opportunity for them and also keep them in the mix

A sweet sixteen AND byu went to An Alamo bowl

a better season last? Year at the end of, it
obviously football overachieved the, expectation AND i think in many

BIT i think round to thirty two was maybe quota

with their, roster but some Expected sweet. Sixteen give me
an analysis of that and then what this year is
looking like for football and. Basketball, yeah that's a good.

more last year achieving a little bit more just because

regular season, championship which is huge and don't forget, that
and then The Big bowl win and finishing where they.
