Speaker 1 (00:00):

(00:03):
Ben Krittle is here. They'll break it all down. In

an NFLPA certified financial planner that has been aiding and
supporting the BA student athletes for.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
The last five years now. He wants to support you.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Let's get into some soundbites from Klaude Satake from earlier
this week, head coach of BA Football. We're going to
get into a couple of things here as it relates
to Kalani and their bye week talking even Tom Holmo
and LJ martin a rod situation, Let's get right into it.
(01:15):
It seemed like, actually real quick shout out to our sponsor,
Orthropos of Utah Orthroposo Utah dot com. If you're looking
to rehabilitate the right way, the conservative way with great
biomechanical supports compression, where could therapy neuro muscular electro therapy,
modalities that can reduce pain and increase blood flow and
(01:39):
keep you moving. Motion is medicine after all, Then contact
us at Orthropos of Utah today. We can build out
your insurance if you have a prescription, if you have
a specific indication for or diagnosis, or you can utilize
your hsa FSA card. All right, Colani, It seemed like
when LJ went down in this Ioway State game with
(01:59):
a shoulder injury, a rod adjusted to putting the game
on the arm of bear. How do you go about
making those adjustments?
Speaker 4 (02:10):
Yeah, I mean I think the maybe the focus could
be a little different, but he's already a Rod is
always ready to make adjustments. We have our playbook. It
wasn't like we were just making plays up when we
went in the halftime and said, Okay, we're gonna run
these three passes now and all that. It's just we
can throw the ball every play if we have to,
and we can run the ball every play if we
have to. You know that that's those are easy adjustments
(02:33):
to make. And if we feel like teams are going
to take away the run from us and try to
crowd the box, and then we can find different ways
to run the ball. But we also can find different
ways to advance the ball to the air. And all
I care about is get points on the board. And
you know, I've asked a Rod to be mindful of
that and just protect the ball and get get in
the end zone. And man, he's done a great job,
(02:55):
I think. But but the offense didn't really change. We
have we have the ability to do all that, and
that's I think that's what makes this offense balance and dangerous.
We can do a lot of different things. And you know,
all the running backs can run too. It's not just
LJ and LJ is awesome at it, don't get me wrong,
But we have guys can run. You just don't know
their names yet, and hopefully you start to find out
(03:16):
a little bit more about them as we go up
to the season.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Oh so a couple of things here, give them some love.
Officer today A Roddy's like, look like we could throw
it on every game play, Like, it's not, we don't,
we were just making up plays. I love that he
just he's I don't know, he's calling us all out,
media and fans.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
We have a playbook.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
There has been install ultimately effectuated since the offseason and
into the season, so they can throw it on any
given play. Their dropback passing game, I know it hasn't
been as good as their play action passing game, but
maybe they just haven't done it enough. Maybe they just
haven't had to do it enough. They haven't been forced
(03:59):
to do it. And when forced to do it, I
think it was very impressive what BYU was able to execute.
I saw a marked improvement in the pass pro of
the offensive line once they got into rhythm knowing that
they were going to the drop pack pass game rather than.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
The play action pass game.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
So like there is a certain amount of a groove
that everyone gets into as individual players in game. And
you saw that progression in the game from the offensive line,
the running backs, the tight ends, and then Bear Bachmeyer
had plenty of time, and we know he's an accurate
intermediate to short passer. We know that his deep ball
(04:38):
is developing. And so kudos to a Rod, Kudos to Bear.
Kudos also to that offensive line, the running backs and
tight ends for adapting in game and getting into a
groove in the pass.
Speaker 5 (04:50):
Pro Yeah, the issue that I always say was presenting
man wasn't on the defensive side of the ball. It
was their offense that was what was steamrolling like by
you after because what happened. They hit the one hit
a quarter one play seventy five yards. What do you
the offense do they give me urch right back down
the field score with LJ. They were actually in rhythm
after that first scoring drive. I know they limited to
(05:11):
a field goal back to a couple of sacks, but
then when you think about the offense, you're down seven
and a half time and I alway stated all that
offense and momentum, I don't feel like Buy's offense was
ever out of the game, LJ goes out and then
what Happens's like, okay, well, now we just have to
pass the ball.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
At the same time.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
So the other component is he mentions he alludes to
more running backs that we may not know about.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Who could he be referring to. If you look at
the running.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
Back roster the depth chart, you're gonna find a few
names that the traditional fan may not know. I know,
the loyal, strong and true, the rabid fans of Kugarnation.
They keep tabs on it, no doubt about it. So
if you're gonna look at it, you know, I do
think I'm gonna reiterate. I think LJ will be back
for the Texas take. I think as when I look
(06:02):
at the mechanism, I think it's an ac joint separation.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
I'd be highly surprised if it.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
Was a Glenno humoral meaning like so like when you
tug on your arm, So if you put a little traction,
you tug it and you kind of pull it out
of it, So that would be a Glenno humoral sublixation
dislocation when the shoulder comes out of the joint. I
don't know if you've ever experienced that rugby, but like
a little you know, like but if you take a
shot to the shoulder, you feel a little bit of like, uh,
(06:30):
traction or like displacement there. That's a Glenno humoral subliication
dislocation the AC joint.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
If you take your hand.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
And you just rub at the top of the shoulder,
there's like a little bony process that's your a chromium.
I think he hit that a direct blow anterior uh,
and so it was a post or sorry, it was
like a downward kind of inferior but you know, uh,
anterior hit to that, and that will displace your a
(06:59):
chromium a cromio cliticcular joint and he probably has a
grade two or grade three there because it was a
big It was a pretty big.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Hit, so co grade three. And you can play through that,
you can.
Speaker 5 (07:09):
A joints are those they're uncomfortable, but you can definitely
play through it. It doesn't affect you. Now, Like you mentioned
yesterday on the show, how much are you leading with that?
Speaker 3 (07:17):
Showed?
Speaker 5 (07:17):
I remember I had AC joint over here. Gonna lead
too much with that yet?
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Yeah, so you'll, well, maybe he's a little bit more
hesitant to to lower the left shoulder, but I think
he'll be able to play. But who's behind Elga. You
have Preston Rex, who's a change of pace back. You
have Enik Nabaghini, who's a bit more of a bruiser
at RB three than actually well, and jol Vesta's right
there at RB three two is another scat back six
(07:43):
foot one ninety. You have Lucky feenal right. You have
Charles Miska. You have Cason Krabs. We haven't seen Cason yet.
We have seen Charles Miskin. We have seen Lucky feen ow.
Lucky's five eleven two thirty. Charles Miska is five foot
eleven fifteen and then an interesting name pops up five
(08:06):
foot ten, two hundred and fifteen pound freshman at a
Pleasant View, Utah. We were high school Logan Payne, number
thirty eight. Paine's a great name. It's a legacy name.
Matt Paine. His father was one of the greatest punters
in BYU football history.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
Also could lay the lumber.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
Maybe the best punt you know, I guess punter tackler
in BAU football history. Johnny Lenahan wants to be in
that conversation too, But the hits just weren't as booming.
They weren't as lumbrous, if you will, and so Logan
is an interesting study here. Like I said, parents are
(08:48):
Matt and Amanda. Father Matt was a kicker and punter.
He's got three siblings, brother Tyler's currently playing linebacker at BYU,
and Logan served a mission for the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter day Saints in Cali, Colombia, Columbia.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
Prepped at Weber.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
High School, first team All State running back in twenty
twenty one. Led six a and rushing in twenty twenty
one with one hundred ninety one carries. It's a lot
of totes, one three hundred and ninety yards and sixteen touchdowns.
Also was a two way player sixty six tackles, ten
tackles for a loss in four sacks on defense. He
was named Utah running Back of the Year in twenty
(09:25):
twenty one.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
They can set a.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
Record at Weaver High School as a single season rushing
leader for in first team All Region Area honors, and
was a scholar ashley athlete as well, and lettered in
baseball or basketball and track and field. So that's who
you may have in the pipeline here that you're going
to be very intrigued by. At five ten two fifteen,
(09:48):
that tells me. And you look at his speed, he's
got good speed. He's got good quickness if he's got
good vision at to fifteen with a low center of gravity.
I love low center of gravity running backs. We saw
a big Neon kickoff right mark Ingram. He was is
way shorter than Jamal and Chamal was actually pretty tall.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
Big backs to right. Yeah, he's probably six foot six one.
Speaker 5 (10:15):
Mark is look he's like five to eight years.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
So I love the five nine, five ten, two hundred
and fifteen pound two hundred twenty pound running backs. I
love him because they fight through contact, they keep that
low center of gravity and you get maybe these glancing
blows that that allow your running backs to stay up right.
Speaker 5 (10:39):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Never like the like even like Marshawn Lynch, like he
was just thick bro, just big, stout, low c He's
just dense bro, and he'd just fight through kind of
he would run through your face, right, That's what he
would do. So I'm not saying Logan's going to be
the truth by any means, but I do think it's
an interesting study he's a change, here's a different type
(11:00):
of back. I do think you need another running back
that is same similar to that of LJ. And the
only one that I see right now that could maybe
fill that role would be Logan okay, because you have
the change of pace guys in Preston and and Joe
Vessa that's your scaties, that's your scap back, and then
(11:24):
Enox kind.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
Of a hybrid between the two. Hybrid. Yeah, yeah, hybrid.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
So anyway, that's I think who he's alluding to in
my opinion, So.
Speaker 5 (11:30):
I agree, you just need to see him on the field.
And Ben, that's the thing. We saw him in BAW
camp his reps. He looked good. He looked like he
was punishing people unintended there you know, uh yep.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
But we'll see what he does.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
So let's move on another SoundBite. Let's pontificate here and
break it all down. It's gonna be brought to by
orthroprosa Uta orthorprosivuta dot com. If you are in need
of any biomechanical support, maybe you have some muscular skeletal
pain looking to rehabilitate the right way, the conservative way.
Contact does that orthroprosa dot Com. With the retirement of
(12:02):
Tom Homo and you becoming an athletic director, is there
any possibility of you picking up the reins to dress
up for Halloween?
Speaker 4 (12:12):
No, some sometimes you just let the legends do their thing.
And I hope Tom comes through and gives us a
guest appearance, which is uh, I mean, he's been in retirement,
so it should be a really good costume, you know
what I mean. He's he never let us down before.
But I'm not gonna do that. That that's uh, the
ones you probably take over if Brian Santiago or somebody
(12:33):
else on the third floor. I'm I'm good being being uh,
the guy that hands out the candy for Halloween.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
Kalani just wants toy head out the candies. Tom. I
think we'll make an appearance though. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (12:46):
Tom's gonna do it. He's got he is now in
for retirement. He can do it whenever he wants. Absolutely, Yeah,
no doubt. The better question to be is Brian Santiago
gonna dress up? That's I don't think so either.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
You've mentioned in Klan the physicality and tough nature of
the Big Twelve conference. Why do you think the national
media is sleeping on this conference.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
I think I've said it before. The the fan bases
are awesome everywhere we go. They're they're amazing, they love
their team and and the programs are well coached, they
have great leadership. So you know, nothing's easy. I mean,
we're we're in the Big Twelve. We don't know any better,
but I do know that it's it's nothing's easy. And
when you have a conference that has as much parity
(13:29):
as the Big Twelve does, I don't think any of
the other conferences could say that anyone has a chance
and then and then it's it's you keep seeing it
year after year that Arizona State was picked on the
bottom and they won it last year. You know. So
when you have a bunch of teams that feel like
they have a chance and they believe they can do
it because it's been proven before, I think that's a
(13:50):
really deep conference. I think the commissioner bet Ormark said
that himself. It's really talented conference, well coached and amazing fans.
And I love being a part of it. I love
that we're in this conference and that we get to
rep the Big Twelve everywhere we go and man in
every sport not just with football, but all the sports
are benefiting from it, and the Cougar Nations in a
(14:10):
really good spot right now being involved and being partnered
up with the Big Twelve.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
One of the questions that I think needs to be
asked to the PAC twelve coaches, right those that have
been in the PAC twelve and then made the transition
over to the Big twelve. Have they experienced any changes
in physicality? What's the difference between the PAC twelve and
the Big twelve top to bottom physicality? I wonder if
(14:40):
they're going to agree, if they're going to say, yeah,
the Big twelve is more physical, or if they're going
to give some love to a dead conference and say, no, no,
that PAC twelve was just as physical. I think it'd
be an interesting study. Now you have Kyle right, and
I guess you could say Dealingham in one year in
(15:00):
the in the PAC twelve, but I think Brennan was
at was uh, he was at Santa State, so he
didn't get to experience it, but he was also he
was at Oregon State for probably probably yeah, so you
could probably get a good answer there. We we're gonna
submit these questions to our insiders at these locales at
these schools and try to aggregate this. I think it'd
(15:21):
be interesting because it's my assumption. It is my theory
that the Big Twelve is a much more physical conference
than the former, the conference formerly known as the PAC twelve.
Rest in Peace, you know, rest in peace, the Conference
(15:43):
of Champions no longer I look, I don't like that,
did I? I am not I'm not a pay I
used to be very petty, used to be a very
petty competitive I'm no longer paid, used.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
To be you know, you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (15:58):
Like, come on, like thing dog, the wicked Witch is dead,
you know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (16:02):
You get ride cycle based.
Speaker 5 (16:05):
One of these days, I like the corner of the commissioner,
as we all know Ben. One of these days when
this time's coming to a close, on the corner them
and I'm like to say, hey, you know what you're doing.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
Didn't you? You killed it? Didn't you? Well?
Speaker 5 (16:16):
I I kind of asked you did. But I'm gonna
get to like the full like blood, like.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
You feel like you killed it. I killed him?
Speaker 5 (16:21):
Yeah, I'm gonna say I give him say I yeah,
you get him to say.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
I killed the pack.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
Well, now the Pack twelve I mean, let's be honest,
they like shot themselves, yeah, and then like they like yeah, then.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
They're like, you know, stabbed their arm and.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
Then like they're like, I'm okay, it's just a flesh book.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
We're gonna be okay.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
We still we're worth fifty million, like we are right now.
And then Brett came over and just like stomped on him. Anyway,
kurb stopped him. Let's get into uh sound bite number
fifteen shape bright Strawther.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Is he the only player officially out for the season.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
I believe so. But we're we're planning on Chake coming
back next year too, So is that right, Brett?
Speaker 5 (17:10):
Yeah, Finally I've been waiting here about it next year,
you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (17:15):
Next year? Hey, shre Bryant, that'd be great to get
him back. Oh, he's playing well and he was. You
hate to see that a guy season in because of
whatever it is. But that's good that you get him back. Finally,
Coloney said it. We all had assumed it, but unique
confirmation he gave.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
It to us. Yeah, No, I love that. Yeah. Any
I mean Showy malways questionable right now? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (17:36):
Is there anybody else that's like questionable? Like not going
to return. That has been on the injury report. Marcus
McKenzie is an interesting study.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
He had that last the rest of Marcus. I don't
know what is it still the We don't know. We
don't know.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
It's a lower extra. It's been at the lower extrom
the injury in the past. Yeah, so that's a little
bit question. We know jo Joe's returning. Yep, Tommy will
be returning.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
So I think that's the only one that Yeah, those two,
that's good health. That's a good way to stay healthy.
Trying to think there's anybody else, No, I don't think so.
Speaker 5 (18:07):
I mean, you've had Jack be banged up, he's back,
Ig and Nis Purcell, all those guys are back like
they've been playing.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
So how do you think So they've been.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
Healthy, Jay Bryant and maybe Marcus McKenzie, Chioney Moa.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
Those are the three that we're looking at right now.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
Uh. So he will be back with the team next year, Kilanie,
that's good news.
Speaker 4 (18:27):
Yeah, he's back with us. He's doing his rehab and
everything and he's back with us. He's been with us
for a couple weeks now, and he's looking great and
he's he's Tommer long and we'll be looking forward to
him being on the team.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
Love it shape, right, Strawther, he is back.
Speaker 5 (18:41):
I don't know if you had saw him around, but
obviously he's Daton McKenzie Vans on the soccer team. He
was walking showed up to her senior night smiling the back,
so it looks like he's in high hopes.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
Yeah, we should brought.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
We should do like a pop culture show like Bau
Popcust because I know you'd like to lead that where
we're just talking about who's dating who and you know
little bachelor Bachelor. I had type of things, the things
I don't talk about them, but I do those information.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
Like I feel like there's another show on the come
up for you, hosted by Ronald.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
Anyway, Anyway, how important is it for your coaches and
players to have Halloween to spend with their families.
Speaker 4 (19:20):
No, I'm really excited for our coaches. I mean when
you when you say everybody needs to recharge on the buye,
we our coaches do too. So I'm looking forward to
them hanging out with their families and and uh, you know,
obviously recruiting is an everyday thing, but allowing them to
go go trigger treating and I mean, it's crazy when
you when you think about the costumes and how exciting
it gets. But I I I, actually there's a well,
(19:43):
I'll give you a quick quick story. Well, Taysom Hill
had to buy one weekend and he came to my
house to visit during during Halloween trick and treating time.
So he came by to visit and we're trying to
get ready for get our kids ready for Halloween, and
I just said, Taysom, go hand out the candy. I
gave him my job. So he goes out there and
next thing I know, there's this huge line at at
(20:05):
our house because Taysom Hill's over there. Then the next year,
we happen to have a bye week or had Halloween
off again. It might have been during the middle of
the week, and all the kids showed up again and
all they were asking is worst Taysom Hill. And I
was like, oh this, But there's like I'm the head coaches.
They just want the players, you know, And I'm okay
with that. So I don't know if I might hand
(20:27):
out the candy this year. I'm maybe maybe maybe who's
in the NFL has a buy. Oh, Jamal Williams can
always be available. Uh, maybe he'll come by and bring
his daughter to trick or treat in my neighborhood and
he could take over as the guest and candy candy giver.
So yeah, you guys, but we love it. Guys, have
have fun this weekend and it's great to see you.
(20:47):
But you know, you guys don't have to see my
lead mugg for a while. We'll see you guys next week.
But appreciate you guys.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
Yeah, Jamal Williams maybe handed out candy.
Speaker 5 (20:55):
Hey, if you want this is what Kalina do. You
got to promote this right away. He's a nerd, so
he said, Jamal talking about nerds is where it's at.
Remember total nerds. Just what you do in exchange for candy,
what you gotta do is you got to bring him
a little Pokemon lit nowers on one PCE action and
then he'll give candy.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
But yeah, Jamal will love that with the kids. Absolutely,
Jamal swag Daddy Williams.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
I mean, who's more popular amongst b YU fans Jamal
or taste them Jamal?
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Jamal? Right, I think swag quarterback man quarterbacks there too.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
Who's the most popular former b YU football player amongst
the fans? Like the favorite? Like your favorite b YU
football player? Like where you you get like googly eye,
you get all excited.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
You get a little butterfly when you see like, you know, hey,
that's that's my favorite. You know what I mean that
that's you know what I mean like that?
Speaker 2 (21:50):
It's a it's a it's like, uh, you like get
like you get like a hormonal response, like your lymphatic
and cardiovascular system starts, you start hyper.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
Oh my gosh, that's my favorite bo you football player.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
That's you know, it may be Bear right now, for
all we know, man, it could be the centaur.
Speaker 5 (22:07):
It could be a centaur. I mean, but Jamal, I
think Jamal and tast Umber one A one B. I
think you're gonna get up there. I think you're gonna
get giggy for both of those guys. Here's the thing,
people like, That's what I was gonna say, Pooka. I
think it's started becoming that too. It might be pook
when it's all said and done. But right now, Swag
Daddy and T T. Hill got the got the cake.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
Yes, indeed a couple last questions for Kolani sitake. Do
you have a favorite Halloween candy?
Speaker 3 (22:31):
Kalani? What do you got for us?
Speaker 4 (22:34):
There's not a candy I don't like. You don't get
this figure from being picky. Give it all to me.
I take all the.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
Sugar I can, all right, that's uh. He he loves
all the candies. He loves. He likes to eat, said.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
He don't get this figure without eating to being picky,
no doubt about it. Do we have a favorite candy here.
Speaker 5 (22:52):
At ESP he discusses yesterday, Yeah, we did a little
bit people the consensus and apparently been we're just you know,
sl odd balls.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
No, no, no, what what is your favorite candy?
Speaker 2 (23:01):
But but is that like the candy of candy andy ball? Okay,
split it up like a favorite candy bar and like
favorite like non candy bar candy, you know what I mean?
Like because like you can go licorice, you can go
you know, the gummies, and like I feel like we
(23:22):
need an entire maybe a section on this one, and
we have to maybe play some like leap sound of
what his favorite candies are on the candy corn anyway,
Brad always bringing the hammer get in on this combo.
You said your favorite candy bar is Reese's. Right, You're
Reese's guy. It just I think it depends because no, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 6 (23:41):
No, no, hold on, hold on, hold on, depends is
a But when he brought up the candy bar, you're like, well,
we're talking about something different, so let me just clarify, clarify. Okay,
so probably overall, i'd probably say Reese's. But if if
we're talking like candy bar, I do really like a
butterfinger as a candy bar. But if we're just talking
(24:03):
about like I'm sitting watching a movie and I have
something to like just pop in my mouth every couple
of minutes.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
I used to really love Skittles as a kid, but
I don't.
Speaker 6 (24:14):
Again, I'm trying to evade thirty for as long as possible,
but I really am getting to the point where, like,
some things really just have too much sugar for me.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
And I hate that I say that.
Speaker 6 (24:24):
I wish I didn't feel that way, because there's things
I used to be like I used to just eat
like a gallon bag of skittles, just like buy the bucket,
just sit there and then be on to the next one.
I can't do that anymore. Kumbatos. My fingers and feet
start tingling.
Speaker 3 (24:40):
Oh exactly? Am I having a heart attack? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (24:43):
Or if I have to sit at a movie, my
candy of choice is either gummy Bears or peanut butter Eminem's,
which I feel like peanut butter aminals is still like
on the recent vein, But yeah, those are probably the ones.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
If I'm sitting watching a movie, That's what I'm eating.
Speaker 6 (25:00):
But I do like I do think butterfinger is an
underrated as a candy.
Speaker 3 (25:03):
Bar okay, Vic, what did you choose? Vic? So Reese's
white chocolate? That's your favorite candy? Bar? Okay? And then
what's your favorite candy candy?
Speaker 2 (25:16):
You have a favorite like Starbards, Skittles, nerds like candy
corn uh, the red and black laffy, the red and
black taffy, saltwater taffies that that people would hang out
like that. I'd always be pissed off in my bag
looking at the red or sorry, the orange and black
taffy's the saltwater taffies.
Speaker 3 (25:37):
Did you guys ever get those growing up? Saltwater taffy? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (25:40):
But like the specifically the black ones and the orange horns,
like the orange ones.
Speaker 3 (25:45):
Yeah, I hated them.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
I would always I dodn't want anything to do with
those anything gummies.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
Okay, yeah, the.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
Bottle gummies, Oh man, that's some give me that diabetes.
I want diabetes through coke bottle gummy consumption.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
If a cinnamon bears.
Speaker 6 (26:11):
My family is really into those, and I'm like the
odd man out, and I'm like, I think they're gross.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
I'm okay like a certain type, like I like the
red hot candies.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
They're like little down with those. Have you guys had these?
Speaker 2 (26:23):
I eat the cinnamon gummy bears, I'm okay with that,
but I don't necessarily crave them. I don't crave those
cinnamon gummy gummy and ikes in here while we're no,
hell's no, we're not.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
Talking about Good and Plenty.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Oh you're not talking about the good Okay, I'm not
talking like like the green and red box.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
Plenty is.
Speaker 6 (26:46):
I don't know why that's a candy or how they
are still in business because that stuff is it's not edible.
Speaker 5 (26:51):
To and it's redded number forty all over and stuff. Yeah,
just like by like and I stopped doing this once
I found out about red that number forty shot in rocks,
but shut them.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
Shout out to Ronal Weaver Jr.
Speaker 5 (27:02):
He used to eat these Boston big beans, is what
Pops used to have me eat as a kid.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
I kept trying. Yeah, that's a pull right there. That's
a good one like that.
Speaker 2 (27:13):
That's like Sonny the candy man down in Glendale, Arizona.
He used to pull up and he had the Boston
baked beans. So you know what I tho. I would
also get the lemonheads, remember bomb, So I will eat
leads like I love lemon heads. Underrated candy. Underrated candy
for sure, lemon heads.
Speaker 7 (27:32):
Bro.
Speaker 5 (27:32):
See, now we're getting an actual candy, deep deep like
the what is the crunch like the many like you
know you have the crunch bar, but the mini ones?
Oh yeah, the clusters, the crunch bars, crunch bars like
the mini ones.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
Yeah's a sound bite real quick. That got me my
my final thoughts on the candy. Mike Leach, legendary coach
b y U alum and one of the greatest minds
in college football. Ever, this is what he had to
say about his favorite candies. Rest in Peace, talked about
on the broadcast how you hate candy corn.
Speaker 3 (28:02):
What's your favorite halloweeny corn?
Speaker 7 (28:04):
I mean I completely hate candy corn when I was
a Kidwell, gummy bears, let's see gummy bears for sure, regular.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
The Hairboa It's got me, the hairbow ones.
Speaker 7 (28:18):
And then the other thing I like is uh is
when they used to have the the sprees in a box.
Outstanding yet to go the dollar store to find it,
but I do. And then the latest, the latest. You know,
there's still candy innovation. Although a while back I found
the Europe had better candy than we did overall because
(28:40):
they have gummy everything.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
And then but the.
Speaker 7 (28:45):
You know, they have those nerds clusters.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
Which is new, Yeah, which is good. The Nerds clusters
is good. And then if you go chocolate probably all
enjoy love it. Hopefully you'll get some of that next week. Yeah, yeah,
we'll see. Thanks coming air bowl, the air bow gummy us.
He loves those.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
Uh loves the gummy clusters. There has been innovation. I'm
down with the gummy clusters of the nerds.
Speaker 3 (29:10):
They're good.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
This is I mean, game changers. They and they were
probably red dye forty two bugs, probably all of it. Man,
that's the only candy that has red forty in it
that I'm willing to eat. I'm like, you know what,
sometimes you just have to die in order to enjoy yourself.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
You gotta eat bugs.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
And yeah, anyway, I'm like, this is cancer that I
can enjoy anyway, Almond Enjoy, though.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
My parents ate Almondjoy all the time.
Speaker 5 (29:39):
Old head candy, No, that is old head candy.
Speaker 6 (29:43):
We had our trunk, We had our trunk or treat
last week and the variety bag and I'll tell you
what we had. We ran out of all of our
candy except for Almond Joy because none of the kids
wanted that.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
Nope, they don't eat it. But I can tell you
right now.
Speaker 5 (29:58):
Also, shout out to you guys and bridging the spirit,
mister Sully right here, Mike Wazowski, shout out to that.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
Shout out to your kiddles. I saw that addressed as
toy story.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
Yeah yeah, ive a buzz light Year and uh the
Jesse Jesse Lan before time.
Speaker 3 (30:12):
Fun facts. I still have a buzz light your pillowcase.
Speaker 6 (30:15):
I'm married, like my wife, I sleep in the same
bed and i still have buz light your pillowcase.
Speaker 3 (30:18):
And I'll ride or died with that respect, you know,
what like.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
It's like I believe in in always being capable and
present with your your your child, your intreate. You need
to be, especially as men. We're supposed to be grown men.
I understand that take on the responsibilities and business.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
You know when we get home though a child, you
got to let that inner child out. Bro.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
That is the safety of the walls of your home.
I mean, you're just stupid stuff like the child and
you're on your property.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
Absolutely.
Speaker 5 (30:47):
That's the time my wife just looks at me when
I'm playing with jerseys, like what are you doing? I
literally take off the shoes and just go ahead like
I act like literally I'm twelve years old again.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
So yeah, so I would say, like, you know, I
grew up. You guys don't know about this, And but
did you guys ever go to sweet Factory? Growing up
at the so at the mall. We used to go
to the mall, guys. And at the mall, you'd go,
you'd chop. Sometimes you go into there's a number of
things you do. You go to Spencer's. Have you heard
of the store Spencer's.
Speaker 6 (31:15):
Don't worry, I grow up going to the mall.
Speaker 3 (31:19):
We went to the mall Okay.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
So you go to Spencer's as a young man and
you're like, yeah, you're kind of going through the front area,
like and then also you head on to the very
back and there's like the posters and you're like, oh my,
oh my goodness. You know, and I didn't know about Spencer's.
This is you're only as good as the people you
(31:43):
surround yourself with. I had some no LDS.
Speaker 5 (31:47):
Friends, friends, and they knew about the Spencers, and like,
I'm like, I had gone to the new school I
was in.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
You know, I was in.
Speaker 2 (31:56):
It was in Glendale, and we moved a little bit
north Glendale and then we're at Arrowhead Mall and and
my new friends they knew a figure two about the mall. Anyway,
I was my eyes were open. I was like, my
loins feel a certain way. Anyway, it's not good. I
had to repent. I had to go talk to Bishop
all the states. Anyway, So you go to Spencer's, right,
(32:18):
that was the common theme when you go to the mall,
and then you go to Sweet Factory and you load
up on the candy, and the candy that I thought
was best, you get the sour strips. You know what
I mean, the sour strips were always the sour strip
you know, I.
Speaker 5 (32:31):
Remember the sour straws going up, like yeah, yeah, they
had the sour spraws to that's probably the form of
what you guys, I would get the tape like the
rollout you.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
Know what you're talking about though, yeah, because yeah.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
And then there was many job breakers like stoppers, no, no, no,
many job breaks.
Speaker 3 (32:49):
They were jobreakers.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
So they were white and like kind of speckles on them,
and they were like they were literally like little balls
of sugary yumminess just put in your mouth, like they're
just like delicious. One of the best candies ever. I
have not been able to find them since my my
younger days. Mini job breaks you can get up fantastic.
You need a million of them and then go Komato's
fantastic anyway, So that was a great candy growing up.
(33:13):
And then I love the modern candy of you, Like
I said, the gummy clusters. That's probably the best candy
on earth right now probably. And then from a from.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
A candy bar standpoint.
Speaker 2 (33:23):
Like I tend to lean like if you ask me,
like what do you want, I'd probably go with the
twigs oh, I like twigs man, I'm a Twix guy
in a moment.
Speaker 6 (33:31):
I do like me one hundred grand bar every now
and then. That's a little bit of a throwback. That's
not as much new school, but I think those are
pretty good. Take five, you had one of those with
peanut and prets that those are good too. So do
you guys remember watching M Call Its?
Speaker 3 (33:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (33:47):
Yes, watching M A Call It man? I remember all
the commercials growing up. Much of A call It was
pretty good. Anyway, I'm a TwixT guy today though, anyway,
can chime in on that? I put that question out
question of the DAYA gummies? I remember those last sold.
Any gummy is probably good. Can I give you guys
a fun Halloween trivia? What percentage of the candy industry,
(34:10):
like the total revenue of the candy industry? What percentage
of their revenue do you think is made during Halloween's?
Speaker 3 (34:17):
It's a good question. Do you know the answer?
Speaker 5 (34:18):
I do know the answer. Oh my goodness, I looked
it up the other day. Seventy percent? Am I going
too high?
Speaker 3 (34:22):
Am I am? I I'll bet to go forty percent. Okay,
I'll drop me. I'll say fifty five. I don't think seventy.
Speaker 6 (34:27):
It is the craziest answer. This is not what I
expected at all. It's somewhere around fifteen to twenty. It
is all goodness, like solid. You would think it would
be like a majority or even like a third, and
it's really not because again, like there's so many other
holidays and a lot of their money is made through
vending machines.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
But I thought about this the other day.
Speaker 6 (34:47):
I'm like, I really thought that they would have made
at least a third of their revenue during Halloween because
that's when you feel like you see it pop up
all the time.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
But but really, no, pretty happy.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
But remember I Halloween's an American holiday, right, You're not
a you know, you know US US American Pagans. I
don't think anybody else, uh, you know, worships the Halloween
holiday Mexico.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
When I lived in Canada, they celebrated Exico.
Speaker 6 (35:15):
Does it too, because I'm assuming, but I Obviouslymartos is different.
I am assuming they celebrated just because like it's one
of those things to become Americanized.
Speaker 3 (35:25):
But yeah, we celebrated it when I lived in Canada.
Speaker 2 (35:27):

Brett Gus Johnson. Well, actually, before I get into Gus,
we thought we had we had some good nicknames. I said,
(38:49):
bear Yu pretty cliche, right, Others you know, Jason Bedandi
of Fox, there's a bear on a loosen provo. Other
ones the centaur, the bear tar has been says you said,
air bear. That caught on pretty quickly. But then Gus
Johnson one up to everybody, rightfully, So Gus is that
dude on the A team for the play by play?
(39:13):
Whooa he in the kitchen? You got barbecue back there?
Everybody knows who Gus Johnson is. He can't forget him.
He's one of one. He came up with a better nickname.
For Bear a part of his after his dominating performance.
Let's listen into the to the bite from Gus Johnson
on the nickname that he gives Bear. After the Week
(39:34):
nine performance, the forty one to twenty seven victory, three
hundred plus yard street total touchdowns at Iowa State.
Speaker 3 (39:40):
Here's Gus.
Speaker 8 (39:43):
This week's one in the many many in the one
got it player is.
Speaker 9 (39:48):
BYU quarterback Bear.
Speaker 8 (39:51):
I'm putting this man on everyone's radar. They said, starting
as the first true freshman and BYU history was impossible.
Too complex a system, too big a stage.
Speaker 3 (40:04):
But the Bear doesn't do fear. He say hello to
Bear Force.
Speaker 8 (40:16):
My man connects with his weapst Parker Kinston, Chase Roberts,
and his brother Tiger. This kid doesn't just move to Chase,
He moves the energy in the building. On Saturday, he
led the Cougars to a statement road win against Iowa State.
Bear through for three oh seven with two touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (40:36):
And ran for another.
Speaker 8 (40:37):
Thanks to Bear, BYU is about to say hello to
the college football playoff gauntlet. And that's why he's got it.
Speaker 5 (40:48):
That's why he's got it, b Yu. He's helping him
to the to college football playoff gotlid. Hey, that's why
you gotta like Gus. That was fire.
Speaker 6 (41:00):
If that doesn't make you want to run through a
brick wall, you don't have a pulse.
Speaker 3 (41:06):
Brother. Oh my, I said this he this morning.
Speaker 6 (41:09):
Gus Johnson, I truly believe could read a phone book
and made it sound exciting. Fact, I don't the first
three seconds.
Speaker 3 (41:19):
I don't even know what he was saying.
Speaker 6 (41:21):
In the first three seconds, I didn't understand the words,
but it got me feeling a certain type of way.
I was ready to just literally run through the wall
of this trailer and just a sprinting down the road.
Gus Johnson, man, he is one of the greats for
a reason. And if look, if you didn't believe Bear
Bachmer was that guy. If you if you're not a
b YU person and you see that video, you're a
(41:43):
b YU guy. You believe in Bear Bachmer because Gus
Johnson co signed it, you believe in byu.
Speaker 3 (41:52):
Ah, that was probably pretty bad, but it's okay.
Speaker 5 (41:56):
That's that's the that's our that's our, Me and Bret's
podcast no where you can get us every month Wednesday Friday.
Speaker 3 (42:00):
I like that. I tried to be funny.
Speaker 5 (42:02):
That Anyway, the point is Bear is taking over the
scenes in Provo and Gus Bear Force one such a
bad and it's it's a it's a good nickname. So
I think we might have to retire bear Y. You
actually not retire. We'll keep saying them. But I think
you're gonna hear a lot of Bear Force one. And
that's because he doesn't fear it.
Speaker 3 (42:23):
He hunts it.
Speaker 5 (42:25):
Man whoever helped him right through and if he wrote
that all by himself, that was some good copy. I
gotta give it to Gus. That's why I kind of
want to play it again. Just two seconds ago, I
was like, you know it for you guys, guys, we're
gonna run back one more time. It's like it's loaded
up again. It's like this, oh one hundred and you
(42:45):
can't see a president, mister jay Us. So for the
w W fan, Sean Walker will get that running back.
Speaker 3 (42:50):
Get up on.
Speaker 5 (42:51):
Okay, here one more time, let's running back, Gus Johnson
Air Bear Force one.
Speaker 8 (42:59):
This wakes one and many in the one Got It
player is.
Speaker 9 (43:03):
BYU quarterback Bear.
Speaker 8 (43:07):
I'm putting this man on everyone's radar, they said. Starting
as the first true freshman in Byu. History was impossible,
two complex a system, too big a stage.
Speaker 3 (43:19):
But the Bear doesn't do fear. He possible say hello
to bear force on.
Speaker 8 (43:31):
My man connects with his weapons, Parker Kinston, Chase Roberts
and his brother Tiger. This kid doesn't just move the chase,
he moves the energy in the building. On Saturday, he
led the Cougars to a statement road win against Iowa State,
bear through for three oh seven with two touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (43:51):
And ran for another.
Speaker 8 (43:53):
Thanks to Bear, BYU is about to say hello to
the college football playoff gauntlet.
Speaker 9 (43:59):
And that's what he's got, kid, That's what he's got it,
b Why you about to say hello to the college
football playoff garnlt agree or disagree with us?
Speaker 3 (44:12):
Johnson, what do you say?
Speaker 1 (44:15):
That?
Speaker 6 (44:15):
Does feel like one of those where I'm so amped
that I don't really know what he means by that question,
but I don't really care.
Speaker 3 (44:25):
He is that his way of.
Speaker 6 (44:26):
Saying, like, BYU is going to the college football playoffs,
and so the gauntlet is going to be the teams
that they're playing.
Speaker 3 (44:36):
In the playoffs.
Speaker 6 (44:37):
Is that his way of saying, like, Hey, now you
have to take on Texas Tec and Cincinnati, who he
believes are the gauntlet to get to the college football
playoffs could be true. I truly don't know what he means,
but what I do know is b YU was as
poised to make a run to the college football playoffs
with this guy quarterback as they have been since the
(44:59):
inception of the playof Honestly like bear Bachmeier, I think
is having one of the best seasons of any BYU
quarterback in the last five ten years. And go ahead
at me, I said what I said, but I said
this morning, hot Tam. There's moments with BYU quarterbacks that
you remember forever that have nothing to do with anything
(45:19):
you did on the field. Ty Detmer's Indiana Jones picture
is one of them. I think it was Lache Himuli
who had the one. The picture in front of the
big the big truck, I carry the big Ford Bronco like.
There are moments like that that make you or remember
a player for something, for nothing they did on the field,
(45:39):
and bear Backmeyer gets to benefit from the social media era.
Speaker 3 (45:43):
Obviously, Ty Demer didn't have that in his favor. I
think just.
Speaker 6 (45:47):
From a branding marketing noise standpoint, bear Bachmeyer is winning
in in the branding era in terms of just how
big he's been because of media, because of social media.
Bear Bachmeyer might be the biggest BYU quarterback.
Speaker 3 (46:05):
In that regard in the modern era.
Speaker 5 (46:08):
And that's because he's bare force one. This kid's got it.
He does Honestly, you know, I'm getting pretty hyped. Fans
can't see what they can hear. I got the BYU
helmet on with the headset, trying to do both at
the same time. Not really working out too well. But
my big head is making the work. So yeah, I
got the got a lot of stuff on. But no, yeah,
(46:29):
all jokes aside as, I take it off. Let's get
back to business. This kid is probably the most poised freshman,
not just in BAU history, but he's definitely the most
poised freshman this year in college football. Doesn't get rattle,
bounces back easily. And you heard gus after a statement
(46:49):
win on the road against side with State.
Speaker 3 (46:51):
That was a statement you know, why know LJ. And
if you don't believe us, well here on.
Speaker 5 (46:56):
Friday from Pro Football Focus, they're gonna tell us match
Max Schawick and crew will tell us.
Speaker 3 (47:01):
They're gonna break it down for us.
Speaker 5 (47:02):
Why Bear's performance was so good and I mean look
and when you heard the boom boom down the field,
it was the passes to Chase Roberts and Parker Kingston.
Those two guys, Yeah, they're one A one B Holly Gryth,
Max and Dalton Wasserman. They are because if you lock
Chase up, Parker goes off.
Speaker 3 (47:19):
You try to lock Parker up, Chase goes off. Those
two are just dominating.
Speaker 5 (47:23):
And then they had Carson Ryan sprinkling a little tiger
Bachmeyer who is in the mix too.
Speaker 3 (47:27):
So we'll see what they do Brett.
Speaker 5 (47:29):
But right now, Bear Force one the gauntlet of the
college Football Playoff.
Speaker 3 (47:34):
He's gonna lead him there.
Speaker 5 (47:35):
Potentially, I said my record prediction of what I'm changing
it to, I think BYU would be competing in that
big twe of title game potentially to go to the
College Football Playoff.
Speaker 6 (47:44):
We've had this conversation over the last few days about
Jake Retzoff compared to Bear Bachmeyer. Let me ask you this,
bigger in terms of noise Bear Force one air Bear
or b y J Because we thought that was pretty
big last year. Obviously we know Jake Redsoft had to
(48:04):
sit down on College Game day and for a while
there like he was doing great things in the community
and that's part of the reason everyone wanted to talk
to him.
Speaker 3 (48:11):
In addition for all the great things he did on
the field.
Speaker 6 (48:14):
I kind of think bear Bachmeyer may be outperforming what
Jake Reetzloft did in the media last year. And I
think he has the added benefit of like he's the
true freshman, so everything that he does it's even more impressive.
But if you have to compare the two and grateful
to b Yu, shout out to Bear Bachmeer and Jake
Redsloft for doing things big enough to put the rest
(48:35):
of the country unnoticed. But if I have to split
hairs and pick a winner, I think it might be
bar Bachma.
Speaker 5 (48:41):
Yeah, we're definitely splitting splitting harrister before you end the
segment and go to break.
Speaker 3 (48:45):
I do think that Jake has his.
Speaker 5 (48:50):
Platter that you have to give him credit for everything
that he loaded up at the buffet.
Speaker 3 (48:55):
You were bought all into it.
Speaker 5 (48:56):
It was delicious, whatever food you wanted to get, Like right,
he put by you on the map in that regard
when people still die. But I do think bear gets
probably splitting hairs a little bit more of the opponents
were a little bit tougher.
Speaker 3 (49:08):
He's turning the football over a little bit less.
Speaker 5 (49:10):
And here's a deal breaker, right, what'll I always tell you, Brett,
what can you not do with your nickname?
Speaker 3 (49:17):
Can't make it yourself, can't make it yourself?
Speaker 5 (49:20):
Right, So because you made your nickname yourself, that's a
deal breaker to me. Ronald the three man Weaver, I
don't call myself that because I gave it, been created
it for me. Brett always bringing the hammer, Brett hammer time,
Brett the hitman hammers. I call you what those are given? Right.
You can't at you can't say the check. You could,
but other people have to. Naturally has to come naturally.
(49:40):
You can't force it. So the Bearitar the centaur, what
you thought would be a joke, that's still going on
air Bear that you call him bear Yu Bear force one.
Speaker 3 (49:49):
All of that is natural. Other people have given it
to him.
Speaker 5 (49:51):
So in that regard, I think, yes, splitting hairs, and
we are splitting hairs one A, one B. But when
you want to split those hairs right on point, I
think Bear gets it because of it, true freshman, he's
turning the football over less and other people have delegated
him maybe that of what you know, they didn't delegate
to Jake in that regard.
Speaker 3 (50:07):
But Jacob's balling out of TU lane. No again.
Speaker 5 (50:10):
My ideal thing is to see BYU and two lane
matchup and a college football playoff and then we'll know
at that point, but those dreams might not come true.
Speaker 3 (50:17):
So do not put that on your Christmas wish.
Speaker 5 (50:18):
