Speaker 2 (01:10):
Let's get into it.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Volatile Satuwala, he's been playing phenomenal this season. Let's bring
up his stats so we can read him to you
want to get it right. The six foot four, the
true sophomore two hundred and ten pounds out of Bountiful, Utah.
Bountiful High School is where he played his balle He's
been balling out this season.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Season high.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
He had a season high twelve tackles in the rivalry
game against Utah. He had a career high one sack
in the Colorado game, and then that interception against Iowa State.
He's tackled fifty three tackles on the season, thirty two solo,
twenty one assisted.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
He's had six point five tackles for loss.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
He's great in the box and does great in zone coverage,
and it's great coming downhill. He's got two forced fumbles
already mentioned a sack. He's got two i INT's on
the season, one which was picks six, and then he's
got a couple of pass breakups. So Volataw has been
balling out and that led him actually to be coming
the Big Twelve Conference Defensive Player of the Week after

(02:11):
his performance number ten by you defeated Iowa was State
forty one to twenty seven. This past Saturday, that we know,
he had a game high ten tackles, including six solos
and a tackle for loss against the Cyclones. And then
of course he had that forty yard pick six that
he took to the house. The pick six, by the way,
was the first of his career and second interception that

(02:31):
I already mentioned of this season. He now has three
straight games with double digit tackles and currently leads BYU
this year with fifty three tackles on the year, including
six point five for loss. As I mentioned before, and
this has been a great addition to Jay Hills defense.
This is the guy that was able to get some
time last year, but that has been balling out this year,
no doubt. As a true freshman last year, he played

(02:53):
in twelve games and collected nine tackles and the interception.
So you're seeing that development. I remember catching up with
him early in the year. He's also set this to
multiple media availabilities, that development of just knowing where he's
supposed to be not only at maybe the free safety spot,
but now the strong safety knowing where everybody else needs
to be as well.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
He loves to jump routes.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
As you can see, Liwly stole the pick six from
that tight end and took it to the house.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
So this kid is phenomenal.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
He's gonna ball out by you want to buy this
week reminder to the fans and those that are listening,
and then number ten BYU will have the buy travel
to Lubbock next week to take on Texas Tech the
rank number thirteen, by the way, at Jones at and
T Stadium next Saturday, November eighth. That game will be
broadcast on either ABC or ESPN. Kickoff is set for

(03:42):
eleven am Central time for locals here in Utah. That's
ten am Mountain if you're on the East coast noon
for you, and then if you are obviously on the
Pacific time, they'll be nine am, so.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
An early kick.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
A lot of people a little worried about BYU having
that early kick. All I remember last year is when
you have the early kick against Baylor. They got the
dub down there in Wacos, so it doesn't matter. I'm
gonna continue one with some other news and notes as well.
Bear Bachmeyer named one Manning Award Star of the Week.
Bear has been killing an easyaka multiple awards, rightfully so.

(04:15):
But the BA freshman was named yesterday to the Manning
Award Stars of the Week. First performance in Iowa State victory.
The Manning Award was created by the All State Sugar
Bowl in two thousand and four to honor the college
football accomplishments of Archie Peyton and Elive Manning. He completed
twenty two of thirty four passes for three hundred and
seven yards two touchdowns in the year, and then on

(04:37):
the ground he had twelve carries for forty nine yards
and a third score.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
In BYU's victories.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
The Cyclone defense has not allowed three hundred passing yards
in twenty one consecutive games. Guys, bear Bachmeier was the
one that broke that. And then I have to give
credit where credits due. It really belongs to the guy.
Aaron Rodderck, the mastermind behind himself been had asked a
question of today as he shut all.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
The people up.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
I'll be honest, I still think there are some doubters
out there. I still think there are some people who
are hating on a Rod. I don't know why he's
earned this money already. In my opinion, Ay no, with
the true freshman. No one thought this. I'd said this
last week on Bread and I's podcast that you can
catch on any of your podcast network.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Of believe in BYU.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
I said, BYU needs to win two out of three
games on the road with Iowa State, Texas Tech, and
Cincinnati because I believe that the Couvers will take care
of business against TCU and you CF. So if you
get two out of three, that gives you one loss. Now,
this team's looking to go undefeated the whole way. They
believe that, right, they know what they have in that
locker room. But I'm giving that if that would give
you one loss, that would guarantee you into the Big

(05:42):
twelve title game.

Speaker 4 (05:43):
Now.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
I say that because last year, after they beat Utah,
I guaranteed it. I booked it. I said, Hey, they
were going and I was wrong. They had the downfall.
They lost to Kansas, they lost to Arizona State, and
two losses are.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Bad, right, But what did that do? You had to
rely on others.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
You were begging Iowa State to lose the Kansas that
you were saying, hey, Avery Johnson, uyu demolished you at Lavel,
but go ahead and demolish an aim And it did
not happen, and Iowa State walk themselves to the Big
Too Attle game. Just a reminder, I think out of
five or six years, Allowa State's been to the title
game two times. So that's a good football team that
b what you beat. A lot of people might not
look at that. Ben said it yesterday. Ioway State very

(06:17):
well could finish with only three losses in the Big Twelve.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
I don't want people to forget that.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Klowne's mentioned that they've had their fair share of injuries
getting nicked up. They've lost both of their starting cornerbacks.
So this Iowa State team is a good football team.
So I don't want people to ignore that. Back to
the task at hand. Through eight games, bear Bachmeer's completed
one hundred and twenty six passes out of two hundred
and one attempts. That's say sixty two point seven percent
completion percentage for one thosy six hundred and ninety three

(06:42):
yards eleven touchdowns through the air, He's averaging two hundred
and eleven yards per game with the passion efficiency of
one to forty eight point five. In addition, is second
on the team in the rushing with ninety four carriers
for four hundred and eight yards. That's four point three
yards per carry and nine additional touchdowns. So, guys, when
you think about that, that's over two two thousand total
yards of offense and just about twenty total touchdowns on

(07:05):
the season, nineteen to be exact.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
I mean, what else couldjass for? What else could jasper?

Speaker 3 (07:09):
If you're a BAU fan, I remember, the sky is falling,
The sky is falling, Chicken little and now here it is.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
It's true, not even a true freshman.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
This freshman, this kid playing like he's a veteran with
other veterans around him, has now led BYU two eight
to no start, but still a lot of football left,
four games left. Hey, I remember the start of the season,
I said eight and four. Don't think they'll finish eight
and four. I'm gonna change my my win loss prediction
right now. I think BYU finishes the season eleven in one.

(07:36):
I'll say that I'll change it. I know a lot
of people looking at me, Roy and You're crazy, that's
absurd to think about. They're two lost to know, I
really think this team would only give up one game,
and I don't think it'd be any game at home.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
I think they would get TCU.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
I think they get Cincinnati Vampire Kougs is something different.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Honestly, I think that TCU game.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
If you're looking at Utah that week, you know, I
think who's gonna be on the road. You're not gonna
put that game in the night. I'm gonna double check
at a fact checker. But I'm thinking about in a
couple of weeks, and I'm not trying to get ahead
of myself, right but you know, the game time has
already been announced for the BYU Texas Tech Game, which
a reminder, is gonna be ten and Mountain time eleven
am Central time. So when we already think of that,
you think of the Utah is gonna be on the

(08:16):
road against Baylor.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
They're not gonna put Baylor. I think in a night game.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
I think Baylor is gonna get that afternoon game in Texas.
I if I had to say it, say it and
take a guess at it. So in my opinion, I
think if you're looking at games around the Big twelve
that week, where could BYU fall, I'm thinking that that
it's easy to throw BYU in a nine slot. It's
very easy because they're the biggest, one of the biggest
brands at night to watch football in the Big twelve, right,

(08:40):
people are gonna come out. They know BYU fans are
gonna show up and show off for that game. And
I mean, these are the games that you have TCU
BYU that week. And by the way, that's Week twelve.
That's after the Texas Tech game. UCF will travel to
Texas Tech, Arizona will travel to Cincinnati, Utah travels to Baylor,
West Virginia travels to Arizona State, and then Can't State

(09:00):
Travis Oklahoma State. So when you think of demographic times, guys,
you have to think of that. You think of the
two Texas schools that are playing Texas Tech Baylor, i'ld
have to think those be after the games split between
ESPN and Fox. West Virginia Arizona State could be the
night game. It could be, don't think so, that'd probably
be the five pm kickoff. If I had to take
a gamble, added, I don't gamble. If I had to

(09:21):
take a bet with everything going on right now, do
not gamble. And luckily it's illegal in the state of Utah,
so do not to do it. Don't go down the
dark Desert Highway, as g Man says. And in Kansas
State takes on Oklahoma State. So I'd have to think
with a demographic of games and even Cincinnati, I would
have to think that the night games that probably would
be broadcast from Fox or ESPN is TCU, BYU or

(09:42):
West Virginia Arizona State. I would have to think, you know,
you have to look obviously at the top twenty five,
what are the games would be going on that we
can Obviously the College Football Playoff Committee would look at
things definitely, But right now I'd be Clemson Louisville, Minnesota
at Oregon, UCLA at Ohio State, was and Indiana, South Carolina
at Texas A and m Oklahoma and Alabama. So there's

(10:04):
a top twenty five matchup Texas at Georgia. So you
gotta think College Game Day is going to be going
to one of those two. Obviously, I think it would
be Texas Georgia no doubt. You got Florida Ole miss,
you got Georgia Boston College, and you got NC State
Miami and then picks, excuse me, Nordre Dame travels to Pittsburgh.
So when you look at that Michigan obviously taking on
Northwestern Iowa taking on USC you look at these other games,

(10:26):
I would have to think that with ABC and ESPN
with a big ten in that, I'm thinking that that's
going to be a night game. So after that long
tangent that I went on and said terrible, probably Solil
quied that you're probably like Ron, be quiet. I would
have to think I would have to think that that
b YU tc game is going to be a night game.
So going back to my main point to bring this
all full circle, I think BYU is going to be

(10:48):
eleven and one. I'm gonna be declarative on that, and
I'll I'll eat the bullet like I had to eat
it last year if that's not true. But I really
believe that I don't see BAU losing a TCU or
UCF at home.

Speaker 5 (10:58):
Now.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
I can be wrong about that. I could really, I
really could be, but I don't think so.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
And the Cougars are at eight, that would give them
ten and then you got to get one more So
the Texas Tech game, the Cincinnati game is gonna be tough.
I just think it's too tough to go undefeated in
this Big Twelve Conference. So I think eleven and one
and BYU will be in potentially the title game.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
We have to see how it all shakes out. You
never know.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
Things could check out differently. So I think by you
will finish the season eleven and one. Obviously got to
get guys healthy. A lot of that could depend on
if l J.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
Martin.

Speaker 6 (11:26):
If LJ.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
Martin is not able to go, might have to change
that prediction come next week. But right now, during the
bye I think BYU is on pace. Right now, according
to ESPN the FPI, I think it was ten point
six wins, so that's close to about eleven. So not
out of the ballparking there when you look at the
data when you look at the numbers, But again, follow
te South Twala is your Big Twelve Conference Defensive Player

(11:49):
of the Week, and then Bear Bachmeyer has been named
the Manning Awards Stars of the Week as well.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
He had a phenomenal performance.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
What will bear stats be by the end of season,
I'll ask you, does Bear with over three thousand yards?

Speaker 2 (12:01):
Can he do that?

Speaker 3 (12:02):
He would have to throw roughly about three hundred to
three thirty passing yards per game.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
I don't know if that's possible.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
With the way BYU is balanced in their offensive attack.
But if Lj's not able to go in, if he's limited,
if he's dinged up, do you throw the ball more?
You saw that showcase against Iowa State? Do you throw
the ball more? Do you air it out? Texas Tech?
I know Bear Morden's gonna be back, but look, Will
Hammon's out for the season, can now the third string
who's gonna be the designated backup? Is he going to
be able to get the job done? So it's a

(12:29):
lot that could happen. So Bayu has a good opportunity. So,
but does Bear get over three thousand yards through the air?
Is Bear able to get close to one thousand yards
on the ground?

Speaker 2 (12:37):
I don't think so.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
I think he might get somewhere to about, you know,
six to seven hundred. But I think you're gonna see
Bear have somewhere close to over three thousand yards of
total offense, maybe about thirty two hundred and I think
Bear is definitely gonna have somewhere close to thirty touchdowns again,
phenomenal season. We'll have to discuss that at a lad
point in time in that segment, But for another segument.
Excuse me, but Bear already on track up the awards again.

(13:01):
I'll say it, book it, book it that Bear Bachmeyer
is the Big Twelve Freshman of the Year. I just
don't see anybody else that's been able to compete and
has been able to perform at a high level, has
led his team to a top ten eight people rank,
and we'll see what the College Football Playoff Committee says
next week. I don't also see another guy that hasn't
played football, by the way, was at another school in March,

(13:21):
got the BYU in June, and is doing this. You
just let me know. But forty seven is a problem.
He's a dude six two two thirty out of California
causing problems for the Big Twelve. And he's only a freshman.
I can't even imagine what is sophomore and senior excuse me,
junior season will look like. So if you're wor BYU fans, hey,

(13:42):
I know everybody's waiting for Red a lions, but enjoy
Bear Baca mile while it last, because this kid's playing
on a different level.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
But that was your world a BYU.

concerned about the work load of Bear Bachmeyer. Is there

orthopos of Utah. Todd com Let's get into it, Kaladi Shataki.
Are you concerned about the workload for Bear up to
this point in the season.

Speaker 4 (16:52):
No, I mean the guy, the guy asks for more.
So I think I've said he has an appetite for
more and we're gonna keep giving it to him. So
it's good that he's named Bear with a strong appetite
and then he's he's ready for it. I think the
key would be what what does he feel like he's
really good at and that he feels comfortable with that.

(17:12):
That's we can take advantage of that. During this week
with the boy.

Speaker 6 (17:19):
Bear Bachmeyer has set a BYU freshman quarterback rushing record
for attempts ninety four yards at four oh eight and
touchdowns at nine. Pretty impressive. Numbers here already through through
eight games, and guess what, he's got four regular season
games to go and a bowl game.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Or maybe more playoff the game. Maybe aby Bou.

Speaker 8 (17:44):
Hosting a playoff game at Lavelle Edwards Stadium with the
snow falling and the best time of the year.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
Oh my gosh. Would want it to be a day
game or a night game. That's a good point.

Speaker 8 (17:54):
You know what I am I watching it on TV
or at home, because that changes things.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
I'm talking about for b what you to have a
competitive advantage? Oh well, night game? Yeah, probably night game.

Speaker 8 (18:03):
But if I'm going I don't want it to be
a night game because I want as much as possible. Well,
it's interesting, is like I look back, you look at
like the Iowas State game from a few years ago,
and how slippery and cold it was, right, and then
you look at the Oklahoma game and he only end
up losing that Oklahoma game at home.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
But it was a day game. You know.

Speaker 6 (18:19):
You get into some of these day game November games,
December games, and it may look decent. It actually may
be a decent weather game.

Speaker 5 (18:28):
Anyway.

Speaker 6 (18:28):
It's it's an interesting dilemma that hopefully we get to
discuss later on in uh the season. But bear Bachmar
has taken a toll right this season, but he's still healthy.
Probably gonna benefit from a bye week getting healthy and strong.
But as Klaney points out, he's got a bear of

(18:49):
an appetite and he actually bear stayed. In his post game,
he's like, yeah, I feel like a woos for sliding,
but we're really happy that he did.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
Right. We're all rejoicing, like, stay healthy.

Speaker 6 (19:00):
I actually stood up and I didn't even hand our
golf clap.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
I was really getting into it. I said, he slid.
He slid, ding dong, the Wicked Witch is dead. He slid.

Speaker 6 (19:10):
Anyway, it was great, it was grant, It was wonderful.
But we still have some concerns about the double headed
monster that is the Bay rushing attack. LJ Martin update.
Do you have any update on l J Martin?

Speaker 4 (19:24):
Yep, we're still evaluating it. So we'll take some time
to evaluate and see where he's.

Speaker 5 (19:28):
Going to be at.

Speaker 4 (19:29):
But yeah, that's it. Can't give you the answer. You
guys know that wasn't going to happen on a Monday
after the game.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
You ain't getting it. You ain't get it. No, way, no. Wow.

Speaker 6 (19:39):
But he you know, my prognostication is this, I think
he's gonna play. The question is will he be his
same self in physicality. What you'll see sometimes whenever you
have an up extremity injury or a running back or
anyone that takes contact, I think, judging by the mechanism,

(20:03):
it's one of two things. Okay, it's either an AC
joint separation, and it was a pretty violent hit by
the way it was, that could be a Grade two
Grade three.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
AC joint separation.

Speaker 6 (20:13):
It's the chromium and the clavical they meet.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
It's called the chromiocular joints.

Speaker 6 (20:20):
There's three ligaments associated with that that that joint, And
like I've seen guys have Grade three separations and they
get back and they're fine. They just tape it down,
they put a pad on it, and boom, you're fine.
But what happens is sometimes you don't necessarily lead with
that shoulder anymore because you're afraid of that contact, because
there is pain associated with it, and we don't vocally

(20:42):
inject anymore, so you don't get like the numbing pain
where you can just kind of push through it.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
That doesn't happen anymore.

Speaker 6 (20:49):
And so you know that could that could I mean
how physical has LJ been this year?

Speaker 2 (20:56):
He's been pretty.

Speaker 6 (20:56):
Physical, like he's he's laid he's been laying his shoulder on,
you know, I mean like he's been going through some contact.
And so there could be a little less of that
physicality coming back. Okay, I don't know if he's if
he was a ten before, is he gonna be a
ten again from a productivity physicality standpoint? And he may

(21:18):
be more of like an eight eight and a half
that you're going to have to live with that because
you need him back.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
Well, eight and a half is better than no half.

Speaker 6 (21:24):
So it's either an ac joint or it was a
Glenno humoral subplexation dislocation. So it's like where the joint
pops out and they gotta they gotta set it back in.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
Does that make sense?

Speaker 8 (21:34):
Look, all I know is if I can't pronounce it,
it's probably a pretty tough injury.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
And I can't remember what the second.

Speaker 6 (21:39):
Thing that you just said, but it's so you know,
the big bone of your humorous Like, sure, I just
can't pronounce it because that's quite the mouthful. Look, there's
a lot of sublexations and dislocations in football in high
school and in college and the NFL, and so it
definitely is a I'm an injury. And look, you can

(22:02):
play through it. You put compression where you put a
brace on, you restrict a little bit of the movement
and maybe adjust how you lean into contact. But Jack
Kelly also looked like he had a right shoulder injury
in this game, So you gotta you gotta acknowledge that too.
He's already got a left shoulder that's dinged up. Is
his right shoulder gonna be dinged up? Now let's get

(22:24):
on to number six. Have you considered I do think
l J's gonna play, and I do think Jack Kelly
is gonna play.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
Though that's my feeling, that's my gut.

Speaker 6 (22:31):
I feel it on my I feel it in my plumps,
fill it in my loins, I feel it burning in
my bosom. It's gonna happen. So I'm optimistic. And even
Aaron Roderick, I know we haven't gotten to this sound,
but Aaron Roderick in the coordinator's corner, stated that we're
we're like dinged up, We're like we're a little bit injured.

Speaker 2 (22:51):
But I think.

Speaker 6 (22:51):
He alluded to the fact that there's no season any
injuries on the offensive side of the ball, so that
boats boats well, maybe we can pull that sound up too,
so we can.

Speaker 8 (23:00):
Kilani also was asked about any season ending injuries in
the sound, which will okay, so.

Speaker 2 (23:04):
We'll get to that.

Speaker 6 (23:05):
Have you considered changing positions of any players to add
depth to the running back room mid season?

Speaker 5 (23:14):
Yeah, we're considering everything. I mean, we we.

Speaker 4 (23:16):
Want to be in the best position possible to to
you know, whether that's changing not just the running back position,
or where can we put guys. This is the time
to work on it and give them extra reps this
week with the buye coming up, and so yeah, we
have to consider all those things. And we feel good
about a running back group. We just have to see

(23:37):
how how they're going to take to this the you know,
the reps that they're going to get and things like that,
and we have to prep on you even if.

Speaker 5 (23:46):
Lj's ready to.

Speaker 6 (23:47):
Go, got to get them all prepped, got to get
them all ready right now. The depth chart is essentially
comprised of Preston rex Enich, now Wahine, Joe Vesa de Mooney,
and then I would say Logan Pain, right, Lucky Feen,
Now that's your running back roster as is.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
So do you like it? Do you love it?

Speaker 6 (24:17):
Do you want some more of it? It'd be nice
to have Lja back, no doubt about it. It was
one of the question marks that we had. But maybe
there's a new rising star in the midst Maybe it's
p Rex, Maybe it's Joe Vesa getting another chance. Maybe
it's Logan Pain bringing the pain. He's a legacy player.
He was looking good in fall camp as well before
sustaining a lower extremity injury. We look forward to watching

(24:39):
Logan Pain as well, who had led the Stage six
A rushing his senior year for Weaver High School.

Speaker 2 (24:46):
All right, get into number seven.

Speaker 6 (24:49):
There was a focus on not repeating two losses after
Utah last year. The Utah game last year. What does
it say about your program to avoid that this year?

Speaker 4 (25:00):
Think the focus is just more than anything, It's just that, hey,
get these guys focused on what we want to accomplish.
It was great to celebrate the wins and listen, we
did that on the flight home too. You know, everybody
is super excited watching college football.

Speaker 5 (25:15):
Is nice to get home within a decent hour, you know.

Speaker 4 (25:17):
But and and saw the fans at the at the airport.

Speaker 5 (25:21):
The Rock was there. It was awesome that I want
our guys.

Speaker 4 (25:24):
To to you know, experience that and and and have
as much fun with it. But it's now time to
go to work. We want to learn from the Iowa
State game. But we've had plenty of time to receive
praise and pat ourselves to back. Part of staying humble
and staying hungry is that we would get hungry and
get back on on the on the path of working

(25:45):
and make sure we're getting where we want to be
by the time we take take the field again.

Speaker 5 (25:49):
And we have a plan and.

Speaker 4 (25:50):
We have to we have to have the same intention
and same thought process and mindset that we're going to
play this weekend.

Speaker 5 (25:56):
So we have to attack practice that way. We can't take.

Speaker 4 (25:58):
Any any uh plays off or any days off, and
so we've got to have a great mindset. And we'll
test it today with the guys when we got our
lift in and get our workout in and our meeting.

Speaker 5 (26:08):
So but it's a work day. We go right back
to work.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
Right back to work. It is great to.

Speaker 6 (26:17):
Find a way to win, especially on the road in
front of a sold out crowd. Right versus a very
good football team that got healthier and stronger prior to
kickoff and had a bowl orcuse we had had a
bye week, uh and was looking to get Bowl eligible
and remain eligible for a Big twelve championship invite, something

(26:38):
that could have been earned with a win over b
Why you are ranked foe undefeated at home? It didn't
happen uh by you said nay and shout out to
the coordinators a Rod J. Hill and Kelly Papinga for
executing a phenomenal game plan, especially in.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
The second half.

Speaker 6 (26:55):
Now, let's talk about that running back room Killani. By
the way, this segment brought keep by orthropros of Utah
Orthorprosofutah dot com. Looking to stay healthy, stay strong, keep
on moving and groove and do the things that you love.
Maybe you're a pickleball maybe you're a soccer player, Maybe
you're uh, you just want to run around with the kiddos,
your grandkids.

Speaker 2 (27:11):
Hit us up.

Speaker 6 (27:11):
We can utilize conservative management options UH to keep you
healthy and strung, keep you moving.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
A groove of motion is the best medicine.

Speaker 6 (27:19):
Contact us today at Orthroprosofutah dot Com. What did you
see from Preston Rex p Rex that you that made
you want to move him for running back?

Speaker 5 (27:29):
Well, I mean, you know, with with with what's happening.

Speaker 4 (27:32):
With Rapatie and and all that stuff, the depth and
the running back position, and then the depth that we
had at the safety position, Preston was going to play
and have a role and then do a lot of
different things. I mean, we've we've seen him. He's got
the speed to run as a dB, and he's got
he's got the ability to tackle and be physical. But
I remember him, you know, out of high school at Cyclamente.

(27:52):
I remember him having the ball in his hands. I
remember him returning punts and things like that, and a
lot of his film was often film. So you know,
we we think that a lot of the offensive guys
can play defense and a lot of the defensive guys
can play offense.

Speaker 5 (28:09):
And so this is a.

Speaker 4 (28:10):
Good moment where I felt like he can also just
be able to compete for playing time at the running
back position. I felt like we could make it a
deeper position group, and so when we talked about it,
it was I mean, we've done those things with Tyler
Algier and others, and it seemed to work out. And
I think he I think he's found himself a nice home.
He feels really comfortable there and super smart. He understands

(28:33):
the pass pro he understands what he does in the
passing game.

Speaker 5 (28:36):
We're utilizing him a lot of different.

Speaker 4 (28:38):
Ways and and I've just been really proud of him.

Speaker 5 (28:41):
And I mean, he's a legacy kid.

Speaker 4 (28:42):
You know, his dad's a legend here and he's obviously
big brothers an offensive guy. So with the Rex family,
he should be able to catch the ball and handle
the ball and get in the end zone.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
Love that breakdown.

Speaker 6 (28:55):
He loved p Rex at San Clemente and what he
did as a returner, as a wide receiver, as a
run he was versatile. Hopefully he can become a Matt
Hadley type of player. For BYU in the running back
Room number nueve. Actually let's go to break, We'll be back.

going to be brought to you by the Advocates. Ladies
and gentlemen, boys and girls, imagine this. You're out for
a job, heading home, heading home to your family, and
out of no where, another driver makes a big mistake

(30:41):
and that changes everything. Your herd medical bills are stacking
up and you don't know what to do, how to
do it? You better call the advocates, These local award
winning injury attorneys.

You focus on the healing, they'll focus on the justice.
Because you deserve an advocate. Call them today eight oh one,

(31:14):
three five, five fifty five to fifty. That's eight O
one three five five fifty five fifty. Or visit Utah
Advocates dot com today. They're available twenty four seven three
sixty five. All right, Killani. How much of an advantage
is it to get an extra week of prep prior
to the Texas Tech game?

Speaker 4 (31:32):
Yeah, I mean you could see how it helped Iowa
State get a good start on our game, you know,
so hopefully we can get that going and hopefully I
can figure that out with our program. But uh, the
attack mode is really mindset. Uh we have to we
have to attack this week like we're gonna play this weekend,
and obviously we don't, so we're gonna get the benefit

(31:52):
of getting guys healthy. And listen, Ihowa State's a physical team.
The Big Twelve Conference is a physical conference, so you're
gonna have people get banged up. Nobody's feeling one hundred
percent right now. But we knew we'd get to this
point and we knew that we're gonna take advantage of this,
this opportunity. But this isn't just like you don't heal
up by just sitting around. You heal up by studying film.

(32:13):
Going back to work. And you know, if if something
if something hurts on your upper body, your lower body
can do a lot of work too to make up
the difference. So we're gonna find ways to get better.
And even if guys are healing up, that doesn't mean
you just get a break, you know. So we've never
been a team a team that just takes breaks. We
will have some time and have everything orchestrated so that

(32:33):
they can be at their best. And that's just going
into the last, the last phase we have to be.
We've planned this stuff already. We've already had this schedule
and everything set from the very beginning. So I'm feeling
really good about how we handled the first buy. Now
we're at the second one. I feel really good about
where we're going now, and my job as the head
coaches get their mindset and might make sure their mindset

(32:54):
is right.

Speaker 3 (32:55):
Sounds like a guy that hasn't has no excuses in
his vocabulary.

Speaker 6 (32:59):
No excuse is play like a champion, right, That's what
it's about. But he hopes, he prays he's doing everything
in his power to prep this team. Prior to kickoff
versus Texas Tech and the Red Raiders coached up by
coach McGuire, who's a very good coach, and they've allocated
twenty plus million to this roster. They are talented, they

(33:22):
are well coached, they got a great culture as well.
They're still, i think for many the favorite in the
Big Twelve.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
We'll see how it plays out for BYU.

Speaker 6 (33:33):
Now, speaking of Texas Tech, guys, you saw the new
helmets that BYU will be playing with. We've asked for
it as a fan base and it is here. It
is a royal dome with a white sailor cougar as
the emblema, as the insignia on the side, the logo.

(33:56):
It looks actually pretty nice. I'll be honest, it's beautiful.
It is Beautif it is beautiful, you are so beautiful
to me. White face mask as well. Uh so it
looks actually pretty clean, very clean. Indeed, I hope it's
not a distraction. I just don't like we don't change
up the cleats. No, that's just the last Get get

(34:16):
the cleats right, Get get the cleats right. So that
is the dome, that is the helmet that b what
you will be repping at Texas Tech.

Speaker 2 (34:25):
And it will be clean and look quite.

Speaker 6 (34:27):
Honestly, college looking at the games, looking at the games, right,
if you prognosticate into the future, you look into essentially,
that would be what week ten of the college football season.
Actually know it would be week eleven. Technically you know

(34:49):
what games will be on the docket. Good games like
Georgia Mississippi State could be a good game, Virginia Wake
Forest could be a good game.

Speaker 2 (35:01):
Oregon Iowa, that could be a good game. That's probably
I'm thinking big new kickoff though my opinion. Okay, Texas,
m A and M and Missou.

Speaker 8 (35:13):
Yeah, that's a good one.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
Man, They're gonna go to Missouri. Look, the best matchup is.

Speaker 6 (35:20):
Auburn, Vanderbilt, Cal, Louisville l s U Alabama and then
Navy Navy. Notre Dame is low key a really good
one in week eleven. Navy's not ranked, I'm telling you right,
but they're seven and oh and they could be eight.

Speaker 2 (35:36):
No getting into that game.

Speaker 6 (35:37):
And Notre Dames it could be a top ten team
by the But I hear Notre Dame wins again this week.
Who do they play again this week? Notre Damer they
know O bye week? No, They're playing Boston. They're gonna win.
So Notre Dame is gonna they're gonna push b YU
out of the top ten after this win versus Posting College.

Speaker 3 (35:55):
I mean, you're still talking about still but you're talking
about what he's on a bye week, right, something about
a number eleven in number What I'm just.

Speaker 6 (36:03):
Say and all be all that b YU is gonna
get game day in Love.

Speaker 2 (36:08):
No, but I'm just really confident it would be.

Speaker 6 (36:11):
Yeah, perhaps maybe let's get back to the sound kalate.
Why does Parker Kingston and Chase Robert present such challenges
for opposing secondaries.

Speaker 4 (36:22):
They're both really talented, and they they run great routes.
And when I say that, I know a lot of
tension goes to to Chase and to Parker. But we
have punch three, four, five sixty seven too, you know,
and and and that's not even including you know, Carson
and the other and the tight ends, and so we
feel good about the entire group. And then we know

(36:45):
that sometimes teams are going to try to take away
Chase and Parker and what a great time for possibly
Jojo to return, you know, But Cody Hagen can play too,
and you know, we have we have a bunch of
guys can play. So we're feeling really good about the
entire group.

Speaker 5 (37:01):
You know, it might be by.

Speaker 4 (37:02):
Committee if we need it, but we know that if
we can go to those two, they can catch the
ball and make plays for us. They've done it for
so many years, so I just wanted to keep working.
They keep getting better every week. I wanted to keep
working and staying humble, you know. And part of the
humility is you don't have to be the guy that
makes it to play all the time, as long as
the team's doing great. I know both those guys are

(37:22):
excited about where we're at with the program, and they're
leaders on our team, so they're really happy with the
progress we're making so far.

Speaker 6 (37:32):
I love that those thoughts from Kilane Parker and Chase
are really good wide receivers has no doubt about it.
I can't wait for Cody to have a breakout game.

Speaker 2 (37:40):
I can't wait. Cody's been winning.

Speaker 6 (37:42):
Cody's been winning at a high level, I think, and
it's only a matter of time before he gets targeted.
It'd be nice to have Jojo back, no doubt about it,
and he will be back for Texas Tech per Aaron Rodericks.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
So get ready for that hopefully he's in good enough shape.
And that's the way.

Speaker 6 (37:57):
We don't know if he's going to be in good
enough shape and feeling hell healthy and feeling confident and
feeling like he could do his best at a high
level versus the competition, at least.

Speaker 2 (38:07):
You won't be at elevation. I'll say that. Yeah, that helps,
no doubt about it.

Speaker 6 (38:11):
Uh, how helpful have Kobe class and doctor Skyler Maine
been and helping this team stay healthy.

Speaker 4 (38:18):
It's it's not just those individuals. I mean, I love
all the guys that work for us, and doctor remains
an amazing great friend of mine, and and you know, Kobe
and and and and Phyllis and the entire Strength Strength room.
But you know, you have to give a lot of
credit to to the doctors and the trainers, everybody that
understands that, the assistant trainers, everybody's on the sideline, the managers,

(38:40):
everyone that works hard for this, for this this team,
and for these young men. They they all put a
lot of energy and effort and they don't get a
lot of credit for it. But there's a lot of
there's a lot of unsung heroes in our in our
in our building and that practice with us every day,
and they don't get a lot of the attention, and
I hope those help those people feel a lot of
pride and and excitement for what we're able to accomplish.

(39:02):
I know our players show as much appreciation to them,
and I'm glad that you mentioned those guys. But I
think they're okay, you know, with how it's going so far.
But we're all when I said, we're all working. That's everybody,
the coaches, and I like that the coaches are being
mindful of players' health and how they can do a
better job to take care of these young men in

(39:22):
practice and in games and and with their you know,
with their with their fitness. All that stuff matters, and
so it's it's an education process where we're all learning
from it. When you know, in my coaching career, I've
never always really sat there and understood body types and
and and the science behind everything. But I'm intrigued with
it because it applies to our players, and so I

(39:44):
have to learn as much as I can. And I
can say that I've learned quite a bit and in
training the guys and getting them ready, but then so
have the coaches and everybody in this building.

Speaker 5 (39:52):
So it's been it's been a.

Speaker 4 (39:53):
Really cool experience and it works with you when you
clature is love and learn.

Speaker 5 (39:57):
We're all learning.

Speaker 6 (40:00):
Oh man, great stuff from Kilani. Giving credit to everybody
that's involved. The trainers especially that weren't mentioned in that.
Those are the frontline workers keeping guys healthy and strong, nursing, strengthened,
et cetera, and staying healthy throughout the long and arge
football season. But you appreciate Kalani recognizing everybody that lifts

(40:22):
where they stand. That's your cougar byte. Great stuff they're
