Always a pleasure my friends.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
Always good to talk to you guys.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
So I always have to ask this joke. John Roston says,
we sleep in May. Have you slept it all in May?
Since this BYU basketball season has ended, because the offseason
has been fantastic.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Yeah, I mean it seems like the off seasons are
things of the past.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
Now there's so much going on.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
Obviously last year when Mark Pope left and Kevin Young
comes in, and then we got guys like Diego demen
In and there was a lot going on during that offseason.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
And here we go again with so much activity.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
You have so much volatility with the NIL and guys
leading and guys coming and so yeah, there's not a
lot of a lot of downtime in UH in basketball anymore.
And then you got kind of these spring workouts and
guys coming in UH and you get a chance to
see them for the first time. So it's a lot
of exciting things. And then just the top all that off,

(02:37):
its just the fact that you know BYU's being projected
to be so good in basketball and football, and so
that that brings a lot of excitement when when you
just think about the possibilities coming down the.

Speaker 5 (02:50):
Lind Yeah, Mark, this feels like the busiest, most jam
packed timeline probably ever in BYU basketball history, just because
the train for portal didn't exist to the extent that
it does now. As you pointed out, have you had
a favorite roller coaster moment from the last year and

(03:11):
a half year that we've been on this ride for
YU basketball.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
Well, I mean obviously when coach Pope left, I mean
that was as low as I've been, I think in
twenty eight years, because the team I thought was really
making great strides and had a bright future. And then
Pope leaves and I didn't even really know about Kevin Young,
didn't know that was a possibility, and so I was

(03:38):
pretty down. And then a month or two later because
they hired coach Young and BYU seemed to me like
they were super committed to being a player and doing
the everything it took to be competitive in the Big
twelve and nationally. And then you bring in some of
these exciting recruits. I mean that was a pretty high
and then obviously getting the number one recruit in the nation,

(03:59):
which is something you really never done before, and aj
De Betson and to get him.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
It is like is this real? Like you know, is
this you mention yourself? Is this really happening?

Speaker 3 (04:09):
That buys not only getting a you know, there's been
a couple of times where a player may have just
given kind of a polite tip of the cap to
b Yu and they put their name in there just
as as you know, a way of acknowledging BYU, but
no one expected that player to ever actually come to
b YU.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
But now you've got the top recruit.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
UH and he's you know, with that credibility comes other
players that want to play with him, and then a
kind of renewed respect nationally with teams wanting.

Speaker 4 (04:41):
To play BYU because of Aj.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
And UH, and you know, it's it's a crazy it's
a crazy scenario that I just never thought i'd see happening.
And it's hard to imagine that a year and a
half ago when Mark Pope left. But credit everybody involved,
Coach Young Aj, all these all these players, and the
administration and the we're kind of uh, you know, doing
things a little bit different and buying into the fact

(05:06):
that b Yu can be a great missionary tool and
and and the publicity does a lot of But anyway,
it's just I think a really beat story for BYU
that for so long has operated under a lot of
restrictions and misconceptions, and and now it seems to be
really blossom blossoming across the country with how people look

(05:28):
at and respect by U.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Yeah, people definitely respect b Yu and they're going to
respect him even more when a certain lottery pick goes Mark.
We were discussing, right Yegor dim had his shooting drills
look phenomenal. Uh didn't miss, you know, a shot looked
very quick in his agility drill right is length per
Jonathan Gravoni surprise a lot of people, right basically almost
standing barefoot at about six foot nine, almost a true

(05:53):
sixty nine in a way Brett and I were discussing
it projected right now to go to the Chicago Bulls
number twelve. Is there chance that he the Houston Rockets
could take him? You know, Gianni's just said that he
is open to being traded, which most likely in the NBA,
when a player has that power, it's players league. He's
gonna go. Kevin Durant probably is gonna get moved because

(06:13):
Phoenix needs to rebuild too much money. When you look
at Houston and the young talent that they have, the
early exit in the playoffs, with the guy like fre
Van Vliet, you think of maybe Kevin Durant and Giannis comes.
Yegor being a good facilitator the way he is, doesn't
have to be the guy. I love Chicago guy being
from it. I love to have Yego in the Windy city,
But it seems like Houston's the better fit from your

(06:35):
analysis and perspective. You're happy wherever you get drafted to,
But which do you feel like is a better place
for Yego to land? The Houston Rockets or the Chicago Bulls.

Speaker 4 (06:46):
Yeah, I mean it's a crazy world nowadays.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
You know, you mentioned a lot of scenarios that may
happen or may not happen, and you can never count
on anything, especially in the NBA, and obviously after the
sore feelings from last night, I mean you that doesn't
matter if the odds are in your favor or what
you might expect usually doesn't happen. But I think I
think Houston, you know, in that scenario, would be a

(07:10):
good fit for Yegor.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
I don't think Yegor can be expected.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
To come in and be kind of a franchise floor
player that's going to get you thirty and thirty and nine.
I mean, he's he's he he may develop into that,
but uh, and his shooting is getting better, but he's
going to be a guy that guys want to play with.

Speaker 4 (07:27):
He's going to be a facillite.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Can you imagine playing you know, being a player and
playing with Yegor, knowing that.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
Wherever you are, if you work hard.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
He's going to find you and get you the ball
in a good spot. And Uh, obviously you can't have
all uh superstars. You need to have guys that make
other guys better. And I think that's what Jegor is.
He's a He's a guy that will make your team
better and make superstars better, and superstars will want to
play with him because of his unique set of skills

(07:56):
and uh, he's you know, you mentioned his uh measurements
at the combine and he's just he's just so unique
to have a point guard with that kind of ability
and and vision and past past making ability and all
those things and size. It's just it's just so rare.
That's why he's he is a lottery pick. Even even

(08:16):
with the kind of the poor shooting that we saw
last year at BYU. I never watched him when he
was missing shots and thought that's just an ugly shot.
He's he's just not a good shooter. I almost always
kind of expected them to go in and they didn't
go in, And I think part of it was just

(08:36):
kind of getting used to college basketball. I think he's
actually a pretty good shooter, and some of the.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
Video clips obviously would bear that out.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
Recently we're seeing from him, but it's not going to
ever be his His game. His game is a being
a Magic Johnson type guy that has unique size at
the point guard position and can find people and has
those great skills. So anyway, that's a long winded answer
to I think he needs to find a spot right
now where he's a bit of a supporting player but

(09:05):
can really make some of those guys that you mentioned
happy for one, and they can make them better.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
Yeah, I just want to remind people. Mar going to
give you a couple of stats. Would you believe it
that a guy in college shot thirty percent from the
three point line, you know, in forty six percent and
they ended up finishing, you know, shooting in almost the
upper fifties. As he he grew at Murray State. You're
probably starting to recognize the name, you know, the guy
on the Grizzlies, John Morant. When he came in, When

(09:32):
Joh came into the league, he was a terrible three
point shooter. He could not shoot like, he was bad,
Like that's why he attacked the basket so well. And
he's explosive. But I look at John the how he
jumped right, getting most improved in those things. I look
at Yegor Or the Samia. Yego shoots forty one percent
from the floor, also shooting, you know a little over
thirty percent from the three. When I look at that

(09:54):
those two and how Joe was able to develop, I
don't know how, And maybe you could shed some light
on this to fans because I know draft experts no
understand this right the time and the effort, Like Kevin
Young has talked about it like he's gonna be okay,
he's gonna they're gonna fix his shot. Like I was there,
he's gonna have a chance to really work on it

(10:15):
right for those that don't get a chance to see that,
shed some light on that, because yes, I get Yogo
shoots twenty seven percent from the three, Josh at thirty.
But now Jock can hit an open jumper, He's making
more threes at a higher level, can shoot him in
a higher volume. I feel like Yegor, just with time
in the NBA, that shot will come. And then once
they fix that three point percent and shot, I feel

(10:35):
like Yegor can really improve to whatever he would like
to in the NBA.

Speaker 4 (10:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
Well, I've seen countless times calling games at BYU that
a freshman comes in and he's a highly touted shooter
and he'll like go oh for his first twenty five
You're like, oh, okay.

Speaker 4 (10:56):
This is our shooter.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
But then he'll finish the season strong and goes on
to have an amazing career.

Speaker 4 (11:01):
It shoots a high percentage.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
So part of it is just I'm not in high
school anymore.

Speaker 4 (11:07):
There's a lot of pressure, there's a lot of fans.
I got to just get in the rhythm.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
And I certainly thought, especially in the NCAA tournament, that
Yegor's shot looked better, more confident, and he got better.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
And so that's part of it.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
Other is I look at some shooters and I think
he's not a good shooter and he will never be
a good shooter because the mechanics are so off.

Speaker 4 (11:31):
To me, I don't feel that way about Yegor.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
I think he's got a nice, smooth shot, he's strong,
he can shoot from a long ways with the minimal effort.

Speaker 4 (11:40):
He's got good mechanics.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
So I think with professional I mean the best people
in the country helping him, he can get better and
get better quickly and be a threat.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
And he may never.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Be a superstar three point shooter. He needs to be
adequate because, like I said, he brings so much other
things to the table, and the NBA is just so
much more open and probably can be in a lot
of ways a lot easier for jeg Or to play
his style of basketball. And I think he's really good

(12:17):
off that high screen that you know, two man game,
pick and roll stuff. He's he can get downhill with
his size and get to the rim and scored.

Speaker 4 (12:26):
He was really good at that at BYU.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
So again, a long way to answer, but the reality
is he's got good mechanics.

Speaker 4 (12:33):
He'll get better, he'll be a threat from three.

Speaker 3 (12:36):
But the NBA game, I think is going to suit
him really nicely and he'll progress very quickly and he'll
have the best people in the world helping.

Speaker 5 (12:43):
Him along those same lines of getting better and improving.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
We saw some games.

Speaker 5 (12:49):
Look, the Big twelve is a very physical comments conference.
Some might argue the most physical conference. Do you think
that Jegor needs to get bigger at all? We see
him get fout physical a little bit and cause some
turnovers in some bigger games, not necessarily across the entirety
of the season. Do you think size wise, Zegor is
good as he is or does he need to get bigger?

Speaker 4 (13:13):
No.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
I think that was his biggest problem is his strength.
I got pushed around, and if I had seen Yegor
and I had to scout him, I would just throw
everybody at him and be super physical and just get
him off his spots. And I think that was an
effective way to handle Yegor.

Speaker 4 (13:31):
And again, I mean it was eighteen years old, and.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
You know, I look like an offensive lineman now, but
when I was eighteen, I weighed two hundred pounds strip
and we at six seven, and I had strong legs,
so I was able to do some things. But the
point is Yegor is not developed in his man body yet.
As big as he is, he needs to get in
the weight room. He needs to work harder, because guys,

(14:00):
I mean, that's what the NBA is all about. They're
going to try and find your weakness. And if your
weakness is weakness, then they're gonna exploit that. And so
he's gonna get he's gonna get bigger and stronger. But man,
if I you know, eighteen. If you compare most I
mean there's freaks of nature obviously, but you coulpare most
eighteen year olds to what they're going to look like

(14:20):
when they're twenty five. I mean, it's a whole different
person almost. And he'll again, we'll have the best weight
training people and get all the help he needs along
those lines. But to me, people talk about his shooting
maybe from three, but to me, his biggest problem all
year long was his lack of strength, and he got

(14:41):
pushed around a little bit.

Speaker 4 (14:43):
So that's certainly something he needs to address.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
Yeah, and I think d nb A will to address
you know that he'll get in the weight room a
little bit. He did put you know, and Kevin Young
said fifteen pounds of muscle ten to fifteen pounds, so
we definitely saw it right. We've started to see when
he would drive to the basket if he was denied
going to the little turnaround f away shot effective. That's
where the size and the measurements that we talked about
earlier coming to play more on the topic of point guards.

(15:06):
Let's transition now. Nate Pickens, you know, committed to BYU.
They got it designed official, still waiting on Canard Davis
Junior still waiting on that to become official. How do
you like the addition of the backup point guard? Nate
Pickens reminds me of hiking a guard on ball like
Trey Stewart, but shoots at a shoots at a very
effective percentage as well.

Speaker 4 (15:28):
Yeah, I like Pickens a lot.

Speaker 3 (15:29):
I mean, I would be nervous if I was a
coach that had BYU on its schedule, because they seem
BYU seems to play teams and kind of see who's
the best player on that team and say, maybe we
should try to get them on our team next years.
Pickens was, as I recall, had a really nice game

(15:51):
against BYU for U c Irvine, and so by you
got a look at him up close, his ability, and
then decided that he was something that that they wanted
on their team. And he I like his shooting. I
think he's a good shooter. But I think, you know,
we're talking about weaknesses. I think one of the main

(16:11):
weaknesses of this BUYU team this past year was was
perimeter defense, and you saw it kind of over and
over again. Obviously Alabama on this problem, and I would
State and Cincinnati even with Gisel James and Arizona Cala Blow.
I mean, they won some of those games, but they

(16:31):
really had a hard time handling the guardline athleticism that
we see in the Big twelve. So I think this
is a real effort to address that with Pickens and
Davison obviously, right, but I think that was something that
they saw that they needed to get better. They need
to be more athletic and stronger on the on the

(16:52):
three point line, and yet still bringing guys that were
a threat offensively as well. I think they've done a
nice job with with those guys. I think Pickens is
a great pickup mark.

Speaker 5 (17:03):
One of my biggest questions headed into this season is
you have a ton of transfers and two big time
incoming freshmen.

Speaker 1 (17:12):
It is a new core.

Speaker 5 (17:13):
Your core guys, your Trevin Nel's, your down Hall, your
Tray Stewart's, your Fuscini tri Rays, they are no longer here.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
How do it?

Speaker 5 (17:21):
And obviously we live in a one and done world,
but with that much talent but also that much newness,
how do you get all of those guys to gel
together before the season starts.

Speaker 3 (17:34):
Yeah, I mean that's the big question in the world
today because most teams are dealing with that exact same scenario.
It's hard to keep that a core group, although if
you can do it, I think it really helps nbau's
core as small, but it's not non existent. I mean,
I think getting Richie back was enormous to have that
kind of experience in leadership. And I think all those

(17:59):
players that we're talking about, the freshman and guys coming
in know about him and respect him. And I think Richie, Richie,
as good as he is, will take a lot of
the heat and pressure off of AJ. And if teams
want to focus so much on AJ, I mean, it's
going to free up Richie.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
And so I think that's important.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
I think Kiba coming back is Yeah, he's an important
piece as well. I think, you know, there's not a
lot of those guys, but I think you've got some
really key pieces, uh, And so.

Speaker 4 (18:30):
That was big news.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
That was almost the biggest news for me, was to
have Richie come back. I really believe in him as
a player and as a leader, and so I think
guys can learn from him. But it's it's a huge challenge,
that's probably the biggest challenge for any coaches. Now that
I got these guys. How can I get them to
play the way I want to and do it quickly

(18:52):
and buy into the system. Uh that's I mean, that's
a that's a big challenge. It's it's a different world
with Evan, but it is kind of more of an
NBA type world and that's what Kevin Young is used
to and so this is not something he has have
to adapt to do.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
He's kind of built for this, which is nice.

Speaker 3 (19:14):
A lot of the kind of long term college coaches
I think are really struggling with this new world. But
I think Kevin Young is accepts it, embraces.

Speaker 4 (19:24):
It, and I think BA would do a nice job.
But it's hard to say.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
You got a lot of great names, you got a
lot of great players and freshmen and all that, but
you gotta go play games. You got to actually put
it on the floor, and until you do, you really
don't know what you've got.

Speaker 1 (19:40):
Yeah, Mark lasting from us before we let you go.
Canard Davis Junior last one I think that needs to
officially sign but him. Tyler Maruss thoughts of maybe Trevin
Neille the shot doctor right could three and D shoot
it at a high percentage? Could be him? Dominique Diamande
or Kadeem maboop A, Brodi Kosloski. Who is the projected

(20:04):
final starter that you have your way too early candidate
to be in this starting five come this season. We
know Rob Wright's a lock, Richie's a lock, aged a
lot Cape is a locked, no doubt. Who's the fifth
guy right now that you see cracking that starting rotation?

Speaker 4 (20:19):
Well, that's a tough one. I don't know. I don't know,
but it's nice to have options.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
I mean, Davis, he shot well from the three and
he's a you know, sixteen pointed game guy, and uh so,
I mean that's always attractive. And Tyler is really strong
three point shooter. If you're talking about a Trevin Nell
type role, I.

Speaker 4 (20:39):
Think he's he's that guy. He's a guy.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
That came and played and played well against BYU and
I think he had four to three pointers in that game.

Speaker 4 (20:46):
So he's impressive.

Speaker 3 (20:48):
But you know, a lot of these guys I don't
know much about, to be honest with you, I mean
I've seen a couple of them against BYU. But Dominique,
you know, as French kids sat out last year, is highlight.
Athleticism is off the charts and so that's always a premium.
But what it's nice, So I can't give you an answer.

(21:08):
I'm not smart enough to give you that answer. But
what it's nice is to have that many options to
you know, depending on the team you're playing and depending
on the situation, that you have so many different weapons
that you can go to for Coach Young and so
each one of those guys I think can start is
an exciting prospect. But just knowing that you've got options,

(21:30):
I think is really important.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
Options is a good thing in basketball. We saw the
deep rotation this last season. Let's see what Kevin Young
would do in twenty twenty five, twenty six as well.
A lot of depth, Mark, before we let you go,
how can we support you and what you do?

Speaker 4 (21:47):
Listen?

Speaker 3 (21:48):
Just having you guys as friends, that's all I need, man,
that's all I need.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
Well, having us as friends is good. And I got
to get you into some Jordans that will really make
our friendship go a long way if I can. If
I could hook you up with a pair of shoes
before it's all said.

Speaker 3 (22:01):
And done, I didn't think I could like you anymore.
But if you got me some Jordan's, then I might
reconsider that.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
You text me the size and which ones you want.
I got the hookups. I can help you not the
hookups to Kevin Young has but different type of hookups. Mark,
thanks for your time today. We'll catch up with you soon.

Speaker 4 (22:15):
All right, guys, always a pleasure to take it easy.

Speaker 1 (22:18):
That was markedurant in the college basketball segment Nate Pickens,
Rob Wright officially Rob right. We've mentioned earlier. We'll mention
it again. Rob Wright on campus last night, posted via
his Instagram in provo. The chemistry is about to unfold,
Brett sooner rather than later. We heard the clip from
Kevin Young wants them to just play. That's gonna be

(22:41):
the biggest thing is Playned. We had trevon Nilla on
the show. Trevin and Trey have been invited to come
back to practice and help this team build the chemistry.
Obviously they know the scheme of what Kevin Young's trying
to do. I like this team got to get Canard
Davis Junior signed. That's the last piece of the puzzle
once you get him here and on campus. Michael Jordan
said it. The ceiling is the roof. I really believe
that this team is posted for a final four run

(23:02):
on what they have barring everybody stays healthy. But as
you guys always know, all of our college basketball seconds
here on ESPN the Fan are brought to you by

the three man Weaver and Brett Hammer here holding it down.
That's right. You hear the music, you hear the NBA
and ESPN theme song. That's right. I'm gonna be talking
some cougars in the pros. The NBA lottery was just

(24:39):
upon us yesterday. It was rigged. That's right. The projected
top three people that were supposed to get the lottery
picks the Utah Jazz, the Charlotte Hornets, and the Washington
Wizards are picking Ford's fifth and six. I can't believe it.
I was joking with Sean Walker, friend of the program.
A couple of weeks ago, actually a month ago in Newark, saying, oh,

(25:02):
when Philadelphia is the number one pick and Cooper's going
to Philadelphia, don't be surprised, Low and behold, Cooper Flax
is gonna be going to the Dallas Mavericks. I can't
believe it. Dyla Harper's gonna end up with san Antonio
Spere in Ace Bailey most likely at Philadelphia seventy six
Yers Brett. I'll get your thoughts here in a second,

(25:22):
shake in your head, but this cougar is in the
pro second. We are going to talk ye or dimen
n draft. Don't worry. We are connected to b A you,
but we just have to give our thoughts. It depindons
to laugh on This always brought to you by Advance
Window Agency. Guys, you can get twenty five hundred dollars

hundred dollars off when you buy ten and more Windows.
Give the mayor a call at eight O one eight
five zero ninety one hundred. That's Advance Windows dot Com. Okay, Brett,

(26:06):
you were shaking your head, just your overall thoughts by this.
When I was watching this, I lily texted our our
group chat and said, I should just focus on college athletics.
I shouldn't even focus on anything pros related, you know,
for my own sake, for fun, or anything BYU sports related,
because this is crazy because I think and related to,

(26:28):
you know, the Utah Jazz and Aja damansa right projected
me to number one twenty twenty six pick in the
NBA Draft. The Jazz not getting Cooper Flag. It's gonna
be bad this season, Like and I don't think bad
on purpose of tanking. I think bad of what are
they gonna do? Like they are gonna be in the
lottery again next year. And I don't even know if

(26:48):
aj could have the opportunity to come to Utah because
it's all about the market. Like, how in the world
did a team that have one point four or one
point eight. However, you look at the metrics percent chance
of getting the number one pick ends up landing, and
it's not official, but it's most likely going to be
Cooper flagg Out a duke.

Speaker 5 (27:08):
Look say what you will about Nico Harrison. That man
was out here playing intered galactic three dimensional chess when
he traded Luka, Doncic and the rest of us were
playing checkers apparently because apparently he had already read the script.
And if you look at Brian when Horse on ESPN
side note, it seems like he already had the script
as well.

Speaker 1 (27:28):
Yep, it is.

Speaker 5 (27:30):
To me this is and you can have the conversation
about whether or not you feel like the lottery is rigged.
This to me is more of a conversation about is
the lottery effective?

Speaker 1 (27:41):
And that's a whole other deal.

Speaker 5 (27:44):
But the funniest part about this whole story is you
and I were talking last week and we said, Okay,
jegor Demon, where could he likely end up? And with
an NFL mock draft, you can look at those the
day the season starts, because you know, or the day
of the season ends, because you know what the order
is going to be. And so you have a lot
of time to build these up NBA mock drafts. You

(28:05):
have no idea what that thing is gonna look like.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
You have zero.

Speaker 5 (28:07):
I mean you think you do given the odds, but
clearly no one does. You and I had this conversation
last week of Okay, yae go Or, he could go
to the MAVs, he could go to the Iago, Like
where do we think he's the best We almost had
that as a topic on the show, like where do
we think he's gonna be the best fit?

Speaker 1 (28:24):
Where would you like to see him go?

Speaker 5 (28:26):
And then lo and behold the Mavericks who you thought
would have been possibly drafting Yegor And does Anthony Davison
him work?

Speaker 1 (28:34):
You and I had that conversation.

Speaker 5 (28:35):
None of that even matters now because the Mavericks are
not even going to be drafting where ye goor Demon
is going to be picked or available, because they already
have their eyes on Cooper flag.

Speaker 1 (28:47):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (28:47):
It makes you wonder on the effectiveness of the draft lottery.
But now we know ye Goor Demon probably not going
to be going to the Mavericks. A lot of insiders
believe that he will probably end up going to Chicago.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
Yeah, that is out of the question. Ronald the three
man Weaver did not think that Dallas would get it. Now,
I saw a things. I don't know if it's true online,
if it's correct, but I saw this earlier this morning,
and it said that in twenty eleven, Chris Paul was
traded to LA. Oh yes, yes, right. In twenty twelve,
New Orleans got the number one pick, which was Anthony Davis.

(29:21):
In twenty nineteen they trade a d T LA And
in twenty nineteen New Orleans got the number one pick.
And in twenty twenty five they traded Luca LA and
the Mavericks get the number one pick. So it sounds like,
if you make a big time trade in that year
of a big time player on the market, right, that

(29:43):
team who made x amount of that team that made
x trade gets x number one pick.

Speaker 4 (29:49):
A lah.

Speaker 1 (29:50):
We see New Orleans Pelicans get the number one pick.

Speaker 4 (29:54):
A lah?

Speaker 1 (29:55):
What is it?

Speaker 5 (29:56):
You know?

Speaker 1 (29:56):
Excuse me? As we see Chris Paul goes to LA,
they get the number one pick, which is Antony Davis.
Ne Orlan Pelicans traded again, get the number one pick,
which is Zion, and then obviously trade Luca and then
they get the number one pick. Cooper fly, So that's crazy.
Was Anthony Davis in every one of those deals? Yes,
except for the Chris Paul one because he wasn't in
the league yet, But yes, but pretty much a part
of it was. But A D was the one that

(30:17):
AD got drafted in twenty twelve. That was the pick
they used to traded, they traded, they took. Add was
involved in every one of those trades. Yes, it was
just that's crazy. If you want to think now you
bring it up and this is on a fly. This
is crazy.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
So they trade Chris Paul, AD's used that pick, They
trade a D to l A. They take the pick
that they traded for Adi to get Zion. Then they
trade Luca to LA, which Anthony Davis is a part
of that deal, and that the swapped back for it,
right and then uh, because of that trade they get
the number one pick and Anthy Davis has been a
part of this mix.

Speaker 1 (30:50):
That's crazy. That's where to think about. But no one, behold,
we know the draft lottery. Now it is over, you
can say it's rigged. I believe it definitely is. I've
talked about this. NB is not about increasing its revenue.
They are only about big markets and things, because respectfully,
I have to say this and bring this up in
this valley, and this this incorporates Danny Inge. Danny Ames

(31:10):
is doing the same thing he's doing with the Jazz
in Boston. The only difference is that it was Boston.
That's the only difference, right, Jason Tatum, Jaylen Brown, look
at that championship came Brad Stevens. You know, organization got done.
The only difference is that it was the Boston Celtics
because nothing different happened. And you saw what happened. Jayson
Brown and Jason and Jason Tatum were both lottery picks, right,

(31:32):
and the championship came because of it. Look at that,
Look at all the pieces they move. And I know
he's been a few years removed since that, but that's
the only difference, Brett. The only difference is market, right,
because he's doing the same thing with Utah, and all
of a sudden, the Utah has not gotten the number
one pick since what nineteen eighty five, since it started.
That's crazy to think about.

Speaker 5 (31:49):
And there were a number of years there where you
watched the Celtics, who had historically been awesome, and then
for those few years you were like, what are the
Celtics doing? They can't get back. Nope, They're never gonna
be what they were again. And now obviously here we are.
Remember how many years we said that about Oklahoma City.
How many years about Oklahoma City?

Speaker 1 (32:07):
Were they bad?

Speaker 5 (32:07):
And we said, oh my gosh, they just have tons
and tons and tons of draft pics and now it.

Speaker 1 (32:13):
Looks works out. I tell people it takes about three
three to four years to turn around in the NBA
where you're you have the core and you're solidified. Right,
you can be competing in a year or two, but
when you're rebuilding and doing all that in drafting, it
takes about three to four solid years, almost a full
contract for someone. So I'm gonna come up on an
extension for it to happen. Yeah, right, And I'm gonna

(32:35):
mention the same thing.

Speaker 3 (32:35):
I know.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
We have a little bit NBA talk going, well, you
need to transition Diagle for the fans and BYU. But
now that Oklahoma City is a right if they lose
to Denver in or go to the Western Conference Finals
and lose to what it looks like to be the
Minnesota Timberwolves, right, don't I don't know if the Warriors
could come back, but if they did somehow, Morocco World
doesn't matter. If they were to lose to the team
now or the team in advance, then they're going to

(32:57):
trade and make a move. And this is where your
draft capital helps you. A bunch of draft picks. Maybe
you will get the likes of a Giannis, a Kevin
Durant or a Devin Book or someone that's on the market,
because if you can't get it done with these guys,
it's showing like and that's that's why you know you
brought up this point before this segment. They could trade
Cooper Flag and people like Roniere crazy, No Giannis is available.

(33:17):
They want to win now, right, They were just in
the finals this past year, a year ago and in
the Western Conface finals. Luca's been the two Western Commas
finals before he got traded and the finals. Right, the
maps are like okay and none that he gets Cooper Flag,
but you expect a rookie to do that. You're looking
at least three seasons before he's at that point with
Kyrie and with Anthony Davis, and their timeline is running out.

(33:37):
So maybe you want to win now, winn fast, so
we don't know. But anyway, first round is gonna be
June twenty fifth, YAO will be on that day. We
know for sure. June twenty six will be the second round.
The lottery goes as followed. Guys. In the first round,
Mavericks have the number one overall pick, San Antonio Spurs
at the number two, Philadelphia seventy six Ers, number three,
Hornets number four, the Utah Jazz number five, Wizards number six,

(33:58):
Pelicans number seven, the Brooklyn Net's number eight, the Toronto
Raptors number nine, Houston Rockets number ten via Brooklyn. Excuse
me if you from Phoenix six picks via Brooklyn that
they traded the Kevin Durant trade number eleven, the Portland
Trailblazers number twelve, Chicago Bulls, and then the number thirteen
Atlanta Hawks via Sacramento, and then the San Antonio Spurs
from Atlanta. That is your lottery picks now, ESPN Jonathan

(34:23):
Javoni and Jeremy Wu who are the ESPN draft analysts
covering the NBA on ESPN, I just mentioned that to
you as we know, to give some big twelve shout
out right, some big twelve love you got a shout
at VJ edgecumb projected to go number four to the
Charlotte Hornets. I think that was always the case. I
think Charlotte wonted VJ, so I think that's what will happen.
He'll have an opportunity to go there and then check
this out. Dude gets three lottery picks. Cooper flag will

(34:45):
be number one. Comment Malawatts will go to the New
Orleans Pelicans alongside Messi, which will be crazy, and then
the Brooklyn Nets cocking Upple will be going going there
as a shooting guard small forward. Here we go wondering
where Yegor Dimmons gonna fall. Well, check this out. Chicago Bulls.
Number twelve has been talked about multiple times. Don't really

(35:07):
have a point guard guy that can facilitate point guard
Sophomore point guard shooting guard Bayu Hear's the scout and
report demon is a polarizing prospect, more theoretically in nature
than some would hope. In terms of productivity, consistency and
bankability and bankability skill. He can hang his hat on
early in his NBA career. He also he's also exceptionally talented.

(35:28):
He has a six to nine poor guard who can
make every pick and roll repasses and often in high
in high level situations, often the highlight real fashion. The
evolution of a shooting will be a major swing for
a skilled development. But he made promising games in a
few different areas as the season moved on. Clearly has
significant upside and to grow in the age of nineteen years. Oh,

(35:50):
that's per Jonathan Javoni. Right now, I do agree with
Chicago's gonna need some pieces, right, but Yegor to develop
to pass. Chicago's not a bad place, but it's a
very young team, not really a bona fide superstar All Star.
I can say this being from there, following this team closely,
just stumping down, up and down. Now, they do have
a nice big that they drafted recently, but it's gonna

(36:13):
take a lot more than that. But this is a
good place for him to go, right There's not a
lot of pressure. Nobody expects the Bulls to make the
playoffs right there in the play in again for the
thirty year in a row. When you're looking at that,
it's not a pressure place. So if you're going to Chicago,
you're Yegor. It's a great place to have less noise,
no distraction. No, it's a big city, right and it's
a lot to do. It's not a bad place. If
your Yegor, you would be able to focus and play basketball.

(36:33):
I do see him jumping maybe here though, and I
look at it like this, right, there's a lot that's
gonna happen with Giannis Onto Tokunpo. We don't know, right, Sure,
the draft comes after, right, and we know with free agency,
we know how it works. Right with free agency, the
day after the finals is over, which I think will

(36:54):
be a week before the draft, right or a week
and a half if you get swept, And what will
happen is that heels who already started to get done.

Speaker 4 (37:01):
Right.

Speaker 1 (37:02):
As we see free agency, I think in a scenario
you could see Yegor dimming go ten, eleven or twelve.
Here's my thoughts why Brett the Houston Rockets got bounced
after having what was a great season number two. They're
looking to not bring in a superstar so and shooters, right, yeah,

(37:24):
so if you think about that, who are you going
to need to facilitate that a point guard? Respectfully, Fred
van Vliet's contract is too big. He broke the bank,
his agent did well he got it from the Houston Rockets.
Maybe you keep him, maybe you do, but Fred's not
a setup point guard. He's a scoring guard, shooting guard
in a way.

Speaker 5 (37:42):
And even if he is, he can't be your own
only point on what you would love is for him
to be able to shoot free ball and not have
to run your offense, which is what he had to do.

Speaker 1 (37:52):
So if I had to think about it, depending what
they want to do with Jalen Green, right, there's a
lot of that. But you have Jalen Green and who
perform unexceptionally. He underperformed, right, had one. I know you
averaged thirteen points in that series against the Words, but
only had a thirty point game once and everything else
with single digits. That's gotta get better. Maybe they come
up off him, Maybe they trade Jalen Green and say
he goes up. And I'm saying all this because Yamas

(38:12):
Giannas declared that he's open to leave, right, and this
all could be in Yego Demon's benefit. If the Rockets
say we're going all in to get that or Kevin Durant,
it could be one of the two and you trade
Jalen Green. You traded Jabari Smith you also got to
read Shepherd there. Right, They got a bunch of talent
they got They traded Kevin Porter Junior, as we know
they traded him. All they have a bunch of young prospects.
If they bring in a veteran guy like Giannis or

(38:33):
Kevin Durant or whoever, and you can go get shooters.
And in the free agency, if you keep Fred there
and you bring in another let's say you got Fred
Giannis or KD. Then you get shooters, and then let's
say reach Shepherd or another young guy. You don't mean,
like you said, a backup point guard. You're gonna need
someone else to facilitate, right with Shane Goon in there,
right like, it'd be a very good team with the
superstar and shooters. So I could see Yegor and I

(38:56):
know right now they have the Illinois point guard Caspers
projected there. I think the Rockets are gonna take whoever
it is. But I don't think Caspers has the skill
set that Yegor has. Now Portland, I have no idea
what's going on. Derek Quoyn from Maryland's projected to go there.
I think that's good because DeAndre has not worked out
they're ready to come up off that they're ready to
go a different direction. So it depends. But I can

(39:17):
see Yegor going to the Houston Rockets or the Chicago Bulls.
How do you see this? Fair enought.

Speaker 5 (39:24):
To me, it's it's gonna be interesting what position and
what role they want Yegor to play. Yeah, what I
found most interesting about this article by Givoni and Wu
was the first line where they say demon is a
polarizing prospect, more theoretical in nature than some would hope
in terms of productivity, consistency, and bankable skills. So I

(39:50):
for a lot of the season, I felt like, I
don't know if Yegor is talent and production wise a
lottery pick. But Sean Farnham said something that kind of
changed my perspective because I think the NBA Draft and
the NFL Draft are very different. The NFL Draft is

(40:10):
a lot of productivity and the NBA Draft, because it's
one year, you can't necessarily bank everything on one year.
And Sean Farnham said something that really changed my mind.
He said, the NBA drafts on potential. It is is
a simple statement. However, there's things you just can't teach

(40:31):
you can't teach.

Speaker 1 (40:31):
Someone that's all that long who runs like a gazelle.

Speaker 5 (40:34):
So that is part of the reason why Jegor is
so highly touted, irrespective of what you feel he did
in college. But from reading that article, it tells you,
guys in NBA circles look BYU.

Speaker 1 (40:47):
Fans can say we love him and he did great things.

Speaker 5 (40:50):
Yeah, but the drafts, analysts and the scouts are telling you, look,
what he did in college wasn't phenomenal. Phenomenal in terms
of long term production. What he did with his potential
was unreal. They were plays that he made that only
he could have made so exactly. So it's interesting that
the NBA recognizes that. So it does make you look

(41:14):
at the Rockets, the Blazers, the Bulls and the Guys
and maybe even the Hawks, because you know there's maybe
you may.

Speaker 1 (41:21):
Not want to be there anymore.

Speaker 5 (41:22):
They did draft a guy last year who was pretty
similar to Yegor Demon, But I think ideally what you
want is Yegor Demon to be your facilitating point guard.

Speaker 1 (41:35):
Don't want Yegor to have to be a frankly a shooter.

Speaker 5 (41:40):
He can be a score and I think you saw
a lot of times last year when he was able
to get to the rim, when he was able to
get into pick and roll with a guy who can
go up and throw it down like a coongwo over
in Atlanta or guys of that caliber, Yegor plays his
best basketball When you were asking Yegor to shoot the
three ball and do everything else, it doesn't necessarily work out.

(42:02):
And for those reasons, I do think the Rockets would
be a great place because it would be somewhere he
doesn't have to shoot the three and he doesn't have
to be a shooter for them. He doesn't have to
be a score for them. He can run and facilitate,
and so I think the Rockets would make.

Speaker 1 (42:17):
A lot of sense. Yeah, and I'm looking at this
right and Caspers has a good skill set too, right,
but I'm looking at it right here, like this is
what the Houston Rockets have, right, and this is Yegor.
And I think it's either Houston Rockets or Bulls. I
don't think it's in between. I don't think Portland wants
to look for that what they got Anthony Simon's and
then too many ball handles over the school Henders Like,

(42:40):
I don't think they're gonna draft that right, even with
Diegor and not demanding the ball, that's just too much, right,
I don't think that it's gonna fit necessarily. Steven Adams
is making twelve million, Dylan Brooks is making twenty two, right,
Janny Green's making twelve Do for an extension here. Soon
you'll loose the likes of like Jeff Green, so you'll
get money back. Aaron Holiday, So you get eight million,
four million back. You'll what is it, Joqwondell a man,

(43:01):
You'll get some guys. You know, you'll get some money back.
But like shng Goun's gonna be due, right, you know
that's a guy. But you think about a pick and
roll with Shangoon, like, think about that, like that that's
gonna be That's gonna be nice. And Yegor doesn't mind
distributing in the basketball and giving it up to having
a guy like Shanghun that can shoot the three may
ranche an attack that works well in the pick and
roll for Yegor. That's a perfect piece complimentary to go alongside.

(43:23):
And then here's the best part. What if I told
you defense and threes you got you got a men
Thompson on that roster right now, he doesn't have to
play that. He can play defense. You can hide him
if you'd like, and not saying that it's Gegor's terrible
defense because he can't He's long, right, But you have
other guys that can take that role, that can go
out there and that can do that. You still got
a Jabari Smith, Reed Shepherd still, you know on the roster,

(43:44):
Cam Whitmore right, they got a lot of guys on
this roster and a lot of pieces that if you
trade for a superstar and draft Yegor, it's still a
good team that can compete, and Yegor can facilitate. Like
you said, so the Houston Rockets is it's very well
and I mean I think you have to look big man,
you have to look at roll like if you bring
Steven Adams back, Kimmy Yegor really won't be a problem

(44:05):
because he's a rebounder like k Pacata clean up exactly.

Speaker 5 (44:09):
And I think where the Rockets could get better, where
you saw them get a little bit exposed. The Warriors
Rocket series was basically the Rockets said we're gonna play
big ball and the Warrior said we're gonna play small ball.
And on whoever's night it was on that team dominated.
You saw the Rockets had a couple of games where
they just dominated. However, when the Warriors could play small

(44:31):
and the Rockets couldn't keep up, they had problems. Jegor
demon gives the Rockets to the ability to say, hey,
here's a long here's a big guy, but he can
play small ball.

Speaker 1 (44:40):
He doesn't.

Speaker 5 (44:41):
He can kind of maybe not necessarily play the five,
but fit five length in terms of the Warriors, tallest
guy out there at six seven to sixty eight will
match that with a guy who can play point guard.
Or if he has to stand and just jump straight
up when you're coming down the lane, he can do
that too. He gives the Rockets a lot of versatility
because it felt like the Rockets, specifically in that Warriors series,

(45:02):
felt like they couldn't shoot the ball and they really
could just play big time bullyball and rebound, but they
couldn't shoot. And so Jegor gives you the ability to
really be a big piece of diversity in terms of
how you play basketball.

Speaker 1 (45:16):
I think Chicago's also going a couple of pieces over here.
Check us out the second round, thirtieth pick out of Illinois,
the hometown hero Ao Dusomuno, he is, he's good for
the Bulls averages twelve and a half. And then you
know you got Wulia chist Are, Patrick Williams right, Josh Giddy,
So you got some big time talent, but again doesn't

(45:38):
demand the basketball well.

Speaker 5 (45:40):
And I think the issue that the reason the Rockets
make the most sense compared to the Blazers and the
Bulls is, yes, the Blazers and the Bulls and maybe
the ball is a little bit less so. But you
when you're I feel like when you're a rookie, unless
you're Cooper Flag, you want to go somewhere that isn't
asking you to be the superhero. You don't have to
be Superman from Metropolis there. You could just be you

(46:01):
can just be there and you can just play your
role and you're not expected to come put up twenty
points a day, one I fear.

Speaker 1 (46:07):
And maybe with the Bulls, they're kind of on the fringe.

Speaker 5 (46:10):
We talked about ye you've made the play in but
they haven't got into the playoffs, so they're still on
the bubble there. The Blazers, he would have to carry
a bigger load, a bigger load want him to. Whereas
with the Rockets, continuing with the Superman theme shout out
to the trailer coming out tomorrow, he could be a
little more Jimmy Olsen and just kind of help out
Superman and the rest of the crew. Whereas the Bulls
and the Blazers, if they win, then that means Diegor

(46:33):
has to be Superman, and that may not be what
you want to do your first year in the league
when you're just trying to get your feet underneath of
you learn some things that you can develop that will
make you a Superman later years in the league.

Speaker 1 (46:45):
And that's why we're mentioning it before the Lotter came
out with the Mavericks, right, Anthony Davis Kyrie tick on
that role. You play the secondary and tertiary role in
the sense of scoring offense, of facilitating in how you run.
And I think, like you said, the Rockets make the
most since right now, hopefully you know, Chicago will just
have another hometown to take Caspers. They like to draft

(47:07):
these Illinois guards and prospects. Hopefully that's just the case,
and you go go to the Rockets, because I think
if you're the Rockets and you're gonna trade for either
Kevin Durant or Jannis in the Superstar. Having a guy
like Diegor and Fred van Fleet Fred van Vliet team
up with the rest of the pieces that you're gonna
trade in. Defensively, who you have it makes the most

(47:28):
sense because you got a big that can play in
the pick and row, you gotta shooters that can three
and do. You got a guy at six to seven
that can take out your best defender right and you
have another scoring guards. So it's a very very young team.
But I think if you bring in another veteran and
shooting like you talked about when you revamp on this roster,
you're gonna have a lot that you can deal with.
So I agree with you. I think the best place
for Yegor is the Houston Rockets because he doesn't have

(47:50):
to be the guy. He can play his role where
he can literally score ten points and being double jjitusist.
He can literally be like Rajon Rondo and not saying
that effective, but I'm saying stat line like that, if
he can have ten to fifteen points if he choose
to do so, and have somewhere between ten to twelve
assists and grab rebounds like Yegor can live off of
a double double, I'm serious and grabbing multiple double digit

(48:12):
assists and double digit rebounds and less scoring like he
can have that and score like eight points. Tend to
be fine right now. He might have the dreamond Green
effect where it's a triple double. But when I look
at Yegor, I look at him like dreamond Green in
a way of his effectiveness. He can be a triple
double master when he gets to that point. But it
doesn't have to it doesn't. It could be a twelve twelve, yes,

(48:33):
twelve thirty twelve to thirteen points, twelve, ten and eleven
right and that right there. If a guy's hitting you
with that type of triple double, you don't want that
problem because what that means is his offensive efficiency and
his plus minus is going to hurt you. Like people
plus minus, yes, it does. It matters, especially when you
get to the playoffs. Like if you're if you like
any level of basketball, when it gets to the tournament

(48:54):
or NBA in the playoffs, look at the plus minus
and watch what happens. Look at the guys on the
floor of the shots that are for certain players and
how defense is ran. It affects a certain sets or
call for certain players. It's not just freelancing basketball. The
Nick Celtics game yesterday, most of those play calls were
for Jalen Brunson, right, creating a play, and you do
have to go create your own shot in a way

(49:14):
at times. But at the end of the day, Yegor's
skill set, I agree, fits perfectly with the Rockets, if
not the Bulls. So I think Yegor will go somewhere
between ten to twelve. Let's hope top ten, because that
only makes it better for BoA's chances. Reminding, the last
lottery pick for BYU was Jimmer for Debt at number ten,
so could we be mirroring from twenty eleven just you know,
fourteen years a part of back to back BYU lottery

(49:36):
picks going at number ten, Except this time I think
Yego will fit in better with the Rockets and there's
not a coaching change and the culture established as compared
with Jimmer going to Sacramento. But that was your Cougars
