of the commits for the twenty twenty six class. This
kid is a baller defensive star. He can play a
multitude positions on the defensive and even on the offense
side of the ball. I project him as a defensive player
at the next level and even at the next level
after that, the National Football League. He has that potential,

(00:51):
he has that ceiling. So we're gonna get to know
him in this segment. Going to be brought to you
by our good friends at Orthropros of Utah. We distribute
ORTHOPEDICGA in sports medicines applies. Your best ability on the

four hundred five through in eight. Orthroprosivutah dot com. All right,
let's get out to the hotline. Let's welcome in this
baller shot collar. He may be a four star recruit

(01:36):
by the end of this season because of his productivity.
Right now, he's a commit for the twenty twenty six class.
He's labeled as an athlete per two four seven sports.
Like I said, he's borderline four star. He will be
a four star. He had offers from BYU Utah, UCLA, Alabama, Arizona,
Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Boise State, Have, Colorado State, Hawaii, Kansas,

(02:02):
Michigan State, Oklahoma, Oregon, San Diego State, San Jose State, SMU,
Texas A, and m UCF. I can go on forever.
Baby USC Tennessee was in the mix. I mean, he's
in the Washington. He had his pick of the litter.
He chose Brigham. Let's welcome in the six foot three,
two hundred and I think he's up to two hundred

(02:23):
and ten pounds. Now the Pride of Orum High Kyaway
of Kana's on the line.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
What's up, Kyway?

Speaker 3 (02:29):
What's up? How's it going?

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Living good Man, living great? Number one?

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Congratulations on the commitment. How does it feel to know
where you're gonna be balling at for your collegiate career.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
I mean it's incredible.

Speaker 4 (02:42):
I mean so excited to you know, you know, play
for Cougar Nation in the next few years.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
So, I mean I'm just blessed and super excited.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
So watching your film, Kayway, you know, one can conclude
we don't know what position you're gonna play at the
next level. What position do you think you're gonna play
this year for Orum? And at the next level when
you go to BYU.

Speaker 4 (03:05):
So this year at Orum, you know, I've been playing
you know, receiver and safety, you know, linebacker mix and
then I.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Do the kicking as well.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
So I don't think anything will be taking off of
that workload.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
I'll still be.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
Doing you know, all three of those and stuff. But
at college I plan to play safety or linebacker.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Love that.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Man, What do you like about playing both sides of
the ball being a part of special teams? Andy, have
you tried to convince the BAYU coaches to maybe give
you some reps on offense as well?

Speaker 4 (03:39):
I mean, the thing I love about is I just
gotta be out on the field more and play the
game that I love. So I mean, anyway I can
not be on the like, not be off the field,
as you know, anything I'll take. And that's how I
started off, you know, Uh, you know, I started off
at safety and that kicker because that's what we needed
at the time my freshman year, and I saw success

(03:59):
in those too. And then as I got older, you know,
I picked up more and more positions and then you know,
that's what I love to do.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
And then.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
Yes, I have talked to some of the coaches about
playing both ways. I think hopefully I could guess some
packages or personnel packages where I could be in on
offense as well.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Love that Kawa Yakana high level three starts to do
to be four star athlete out Orum high school commit
for the twenty twenty sixth class. Talking is recruitment, Who
did it come down to? What were the final schools
on your list?

Speaker 4 (04:33):
So the final schools on my list were so I mean,
obviously BYU, then the University of Utah UTLA and USC
those are kind of the bottom four.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
And what stood out to about BYU wanted by you
ended up ended up winning out in your recruitment.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
I mean they've been you know, I'm right up the street.
I live in orm right now.

Speaker 4 (04:56):
So I mean the love I was having was you
know amazing. You know, I could really feel that, you know,
as a priority to them. To Coach Hill made me
feel like a priority to you tell me all the time,
He's like, you know, you're my guy, You're the one
that I want. And then you know, he kept on
fighting for me even after these you know, big schools
are reaching out to me, and you know, I just

(05:16):
felt it, especially on my official visit, you know, being
around the other recruits and the players and stuff like that.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
I knew that BYU is the place for me.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Got to feel the love, got to see the vision
and uh, Jay Hill coaches the safeties. But you also
mentioned that you could play linebacker. Is there a preference
that you have?

Speaker 5 (05:36):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (05:37):
Do you like to be in the box? Do you
like to be coming?

Speaker 5 (05:40):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (05:40):
You know, en roaming from the third level?

Speaker 5 (05:45):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
I don't really have a preference. I mean I do love.
I mean, I love playing both.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
I love being down by the box and having all
the action when the.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
You know, the run game's there. And then I also
like being in the back and you know, having chances
to you know, take away the deep threat and stuff
like that. So I mean, I don't really have a preference.
I'm good with whatever. I'm whatever coach wants me to play,
I'll do.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Do you model your game after any any specific players
offensively or defensively? Who do you like to to pull
tape on and and try to replicate.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
On defense?

Speaker 5 (06:19):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (06:19):
My favorite guy to watch is Kyle Hamilton. You know,
he's like that big, that big safety kind of nickel,
you know, can play in the box and away and cover.
So that's A I kind of like to replicate my
game after and then on offense.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
I'd probably say like a like a Julio.

Speaker 4 (06:35):
Jones just a lot bigger, faster and stronger than everybody.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Love that that's a great comp and a great individual
set of individuals to try to replicate and try to
mirror their abilities on the football field. We got Kyawie
Akhana getting to know him and a little Crewe in
the Cougar segment, brought to you by Orthropros of Utah
Orthroposivutah dot com. So, uh, Kawie, what what goals do
you have for your final season they're at orum.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
What are some of the.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Things that you're looking to improve upon to make yourself
a great player this year and into the future.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
I mean, I know everyone says, but obviously a state
a state championship, a state title would be you know,
number one on that the goals for this year. I mean,
I know with my team that that is very much
a possibility. You know, on paper, we got one of
the best teams in the state, and we're going to
go out each week and prove why and why we

(07:32):
have to.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
Win the state title.

Speaker 4 (07:34):
And then but maris personal goals. I just want to,
you know, help lead the younger guys on the team
and you know, bring them up and just hope that
they have a good time playing high school football. Especially.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
I don't want them to.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
Be like, oh, yeah, I played with Koch and he,
you know, he was just whatever.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
Like I want them to know that.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
I'm selling that they can always go to and they
need help or anything, and always be there. I can
help them out with anything. Like, you know, I was
a guy who was friends with everybody, not just a
select few. So that's what I would say, is that
state title and then just improving on my leadership skills
and reaching out to my teammates.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Speaking of friends and building great relationships. It looked like
you were able to connect with Rider Lions through this
recruiting process, the five star quarterback out of Fulshome High
School in California, including even a choreograph dance routine in.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
The locker room. I saw it. The connectivity is strong.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Give us a little insight, a little behind the scenes
commentary about your relationship with Rider Lions and maybe your
dance most as well.

Speaker 4 (08:48):
Okay, so I first met writer was when I played
so I played with him on the OT seven circuit
and the seven on seven. So I first met him
in Mark was our first tournament. I mean our team,
we don't we didn't really do any practices.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
We just kind of showed up.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
And then we showed up one time and uh, the
writer was in the room, and uh, the first night
I didn't talk to him too much. But the second night,
like after we played and stuff, like, I felt a
big click with him.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
I really like him.

Speaker 4 (09:16):
I think he's a great guy. Like he doesn't let
the you know, the fact that he's a five star
really get to his head. I think he's a good guy.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
Who likes to work.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
And it was also you know, likes to be involved with.

Speaker 3 (09:27):
His teammates and stuff. So that was good. And then
you know, we did it.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
We did HT seven another time and we just got
closer and closer. And then at the official visit, we
had a great time, you know, doing boating and stuff
like that. So that just helped improve our relationship.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
And then in the locker room while we were taking.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
Pictures, he goes, yo, let's do this TikTok because he
did that same TikTok at Oregon.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
So then we did it over here. At BYU and
it went it went crazy, it went good.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
Yeah, I went a little bit viral. What other talent
do you have off the field? Gotway that you can?
You can you can lay?

Speaker 1 (10:04):
Honest? What else do you like to do off the field?

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Uht field?

Speaker 4 (10:09):
I like to I'm a pretty social person. I like
to hang out with my friends, go out. I'm a
big swimming person. Uh.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
I like the bomb in the in the water, you
know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (10:21):
And then.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
Actually I like the golf as well. I'm not good,
but I like the golf.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
It's the best way to rejoice in both gods and
man's creation is pulling out the sticks, hitting that that
golf ball off the fairways. So you know, you mentioned
you know family as well. Uh, you come from good lineage.
The kind of family is correlated to high level athletics.

(10:48):
Who else in your family was a baller?

Speaker 1 (10:51):
Is a baller? Let's highlight some of the family members.

Speaker 4 (10:56):
So my dad, my dad played Division on basketball at
the University of Hawaii. He came from a small island,
the smiland of Mulokai in Hawaii, and uh he got
a Division one scholarship to play basketball, which was pretty much.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
Never done over there before.

Speaker 4 (11:12):
And then my uncle was a coach at the University
of Hawaii as well for basketball. Then I have a
two cousins who play currently at BUYU col Celia Conna.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
The transfer from Texas.

Speaker 4 (11:26):
And then my other cousin who plays safety is Jaring Kalama.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
And then those are those are just to name a few.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
I want to talk about Dad for a minute. You know,
how has he has? He pulled up the mixtape from
his playing days. Have you seen the highlights yet?

Speaker 4 (11:44):
Uh? I have?

Speaker 3 (11:45):
I have, But I still think I could lock him up.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
Well there, you better that you need to put some
respect on Pops. And you think you can lock up Pops?
You think you could have locked him up in his prime?

Speaker 4 (11:58):
Seriously, I mean I do think so because I'm just
so much bigger and stronger than him. I don't think
he would be able to drive on me.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
But I'm also quick enough to.

Speaker 4 (12:11):
Get his you know, his perimeter, Like my perimeter defense
is good.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
I think I think I'm beating him.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
Bro, Like this is the other thing that you're not
taking into account, Like if he had all of the
nutrition that that you got, all the strength and conditioning
that you got, all the mentorship that you got growing up.
That dude would have been a monster. He would have
been playing in the ACC. You know, he would have
been playing at a different school. I mean, you know,

(12:37):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
Man in his prime, he was pretty gosh it ain't good.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
Yeah, I mean he was. He was pretty good.

Speaker 4 (12:43):
You know, he's Everyone tells me about his shooting and
stuff like that, how he would never miss. But so
I think that's the only thing that would maybe you know,
threaten me, is just in shoots.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
And I just can't stop it.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Way of kind of talking to family here on ESPN,
the fan getting caught up with him and his recruitment. Let's, uh,
let's talk about other sports you play. I love multi
sport athletes. Obviously your baller on on the football field.
What other sports have you played growing up?

Speaker 4 (13:12):
Uh So, growing up all my life, for like fourteen years,
I was a soccer guy.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
You know, my mom is actually from.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
Brazil, and when we grew up in uh Or, when
we were living in southern California, we you know, I
was soccer all the way. I only played soccer, and
then my freshman year I was kind of like losing
my love for the game. Of soccer, So I I
kind of like kind of put that to the side
and I picked up football.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
But then I continued to play.

Speaker 4 (13:38):
Soccer for my freshman sophomore year because my mom wanted
me to and I did so I.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
Was a big soccer guy.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
Wow, how did you lose your love for the game
of soccer? Like, how did this happen?

Speaker 3 (13:50):
So, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (13:51):
It was honestly, when we were living in California, so
this was about four years ago.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
Like, I love soccer. I mean it was very good
were there, was really.

Speaker 4 (14:00):
Competitive and all that, and I had a really good
connection with the my teammates over there. But you know,
moving to a new place and the team I was
playing for, I.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
Didn't really I know, I didn't.

Speaker 4 (14:12):
I didn't like too much and the game was I
don't know, and all my cousins were playing football at
the time, so that looked really appealing to me and stuff.
So I just know I decided to put it on
the side, try out football, and then I loved it
and I've never looked back since.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
No regrets.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
I'm gonna take a guys, there's a lot of like
long distance running. You know, that's not what you're about
long distance running is too much?

Speaker 1 (14:37):
Oh, they're they're.

Speaker 4 (14:38):
Yeah, that's why I stopped my junior year. I was like,
too much running and I'm just gonna focus on the conditioning.

Speaker 1 (14:43):
Well, you know it was good.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
Running one hundred yards is different than running you know,
fifteen hundred yards in like, you know, thirty.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
Minutes, going back and forth, back and forth, back and forth.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
So I feel you on that. I'm dangerous over short distances.
I'm not a long distance guy either Kawai or Khana.
Uh the six foot three. You're at two ten now,
aren't you. I heard you've been putting on some weight.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (15:06):
Yeah, I'm around two ten right there, right around there.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
Nice.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
Hey, getting bigger, faster, stronger. You know, do you have
you have you maxed out on your list? Could you
give us a little detail on athleticism, you know, speed
jumping and what you've done in the lifting realm of things.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
Yeah, so we did maxes a few weeks ago.

Speaker 4 (15:29):
I got my bench and then.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
My squat was I think like fort nice. And then
that lift. That lift was was anything crazy. It was
like two forty five for a dead lift.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
Okay, I don't want you to hurt your beat.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
Yeah, yeah, I got it.

Speaker 4 (15:50):
You know, football seasons coming up, gotta gotta be careful.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
But and then you know, for vertical and stuff like that,
did you guys do any testing there.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
We didn't.

Speaker 4 (16:00):
When I was at the BYU Elite camp, they hooked
us up to this machine that they do to check
the speed and stuff like that. I forget what the
machine is called, but you run for a catapult, you know.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
It was like you run for like ten to twelve
yards or.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
Something like that, and then it can calculate like your
acceleration and all that stuff. So when they said when
I ran over there, I had the fastest time, they said,
and it would like equate to like a four to
four forty I like it, bro or like a higher
four four forty freaking yeah. And then vertical I think

(16:36):
I'm at like a probably like a thirty three or
something around there.

Speaker 2 (16:40):
That's really good, man, especially at that high weight right now.
Standing vert that's no joke. I'm sure the momentum vert
is uh, you know upwards of you know, the mid
to high thirties there with a little bit of momentum.
So that's fantastic athleticism, especially at that weight.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
So you're doing something right.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
And obviously the village that has surrounded you to get
to this point has been a blessing in your life.
What role has faith played in your football and athletic career.

Speaker 4 (17:14):
I mean, you know, I've always grown up into church,
just Christ, a lot of these saints.

Speaker 3 (17:19):
I mean, my faith is big.

Speaker 4 (17:20):
I mean, you know, God's my number one heavenly father
for you know, blessing me with you know, this body
and these all these abilities and traits.

Speaker 3 (17:31):
So I mean I've had to have faith.

Speaker 4 (17:33):
I mean my freshman year when I first started, I
mean it was hard. You know, I got thrown in
you know, varsity games. I started pretty much most of
the games as a freshman as my first year of
playing football, So I mean I was super nervous and
stuff like that, and so faith played huge into that,
just you know, praying and believing myself and then you know,
actually hit I hit a game winning field goal my

(17:53):
freshman year against Alta in the quarterfinals. It was like,
I don't know, thirty seconds left and then like we're
down too, and then I kicked the field going I
made it. I Mean that was just a huge blessing
to me. I mean again seeing why God bless me
with this and you know, allowing me to you know,
make plays in big moments of the game, even when

(18:15):
I was young. So that's what I'll say. It's just
overall giving me confidence starting off and then you know,
just praying to be healthy and stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
Love that Kaweakhana here on ESPN The Fan twenty twenty six.
Commit to the Bayu Cougars. What are plans for the mission?
It's something that we always ask those of the Church
of Jesus Christ letter saints. Do you plan on serving one?

Speaker 1 (18:37):
When?

Speaker 2 (18:38):
When you graduate? Do you plan on enrolling first? What's
the game plan for you?

Speaker 4 (18:44):
So I'll plan on I do plan on serving a mission.
I will graduate in December, so I'll graduate early and
then I plan on loot leaving as soon as possible,
so either in January or February of next year.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
Okay, awesome.

Speaker 2 (18:57):
Any preference on where you get to serve learning a
new language, going overseas, you open to anything?

Speaker 4 (19:05):
I mean, I'm open to whatever, you know, whatever, wherever
I get called, So I feel like I'm there for
a reason.

Speaker 3 (19:10):
But I would love to go to Japan.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Nice Why Japan.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
I've never been to Asia before.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
But also I'm I'm a fan of like anime and
stuff like that of some animes, so I think that
would be cool to go to Japan.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
Okay, we got to get you hooked up with Jamal Williams.
Jamal is like you know who Jamal Williams.

Speaker 4 (19:30):
Is, right, I do?

Speaker 3 (19:32):
I do.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
He's like all in on animal.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
He has like anime meetings with like fans and like
you know, young aspiring you know, anime nerds like you know.
I mean, he just had like a a meeting I
think in maybe in so Cal an anime meeting with
with a bunch of his fans.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
So we got to get you hooked up with Jamal asap.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
Oh, yeah, I gotta get it. I would love to
talk with him about that stuff.

Speaker 4 (19:57):
I get pretty I could get pretty nerdy when it
comes to believe it.

Speaker 5 (20:01):
You'll know that saying since he's begin to make it, let.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
Us go believe it.

Speaker 5 (20:05):
I know that. Yeah, to keep this on the down
because I don't want people judging me. But not not
that Kywai said that I'm a big one piece of guy.
That Zach bail I was one hundred like that was
o g my sister.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
Not watching me. I just keep it on the down low.
Yeah yeah, yeah, we're gonna be texted by enemy now.

Speaker 4 (20:24):
Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 5 (20:26):
It's like calm, peaceful. There's nothing like a long day.
You're relaxing in the home. Anime's perfect.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
You go home on your bed and see he.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
Knows I may I may succumb to peer pressure and
actually watch it one of these days. Because I had
no idea Ronald deal from me. I thought I knew
everything about Rodney, but now he's dropping some new knowledge.

Speaker 5 (20:46):
Sometimes I keep some things in the chamber just for these,
just in case, just in case, just.

Speaker 3 (20:50):
In case, just in case.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
Uh kwai uh.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
Pleasure chatting with you and getting to know you and
your family.
