Speaker 2 (00:41):
Where is BYU ranked?

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Or rather, why aren't they ranked in the top twenty
five coming off an eleven two season with a lot
of production, proven production, and I would say leadership still
at the helm in provo, We're gon we're gonna to
discuss it here on your Utah ESPN. Ready and Narmer,
one of our favorite guests, Cougar Sports Insider College Football

(01:07):
aficionado representing Odion Men'swear Odion Menswear dot com.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
We got the CEO Brandon Day online bradon how you.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
Living doing awesome?

Speaker 2 (01:16):
How are you guys doing doing fantastic?

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Your initial reaction to the news that BYU was ranked
outside the top twenty five, just outside getting votes essentially
what twenty six in the country for the AP voters.

Speaker 4 (01:29):
I personally don't think it could have been better.

Speaker 5 (01:32):
I think we're gonna have the chip on our shoulders
still from having being outside the rankings, but being the
first team out basically as twenty six with votes. I
think it still gives us the upside of if we
go five and oh, you know, four to one, five
and five and on the first five games will end
up high enough that we're going to be able to
have some leeway if we drop a game here or

(01:53):
there later on in the season.

Speaker 4 (01:55):
Well, that's what I was really nervous about when.

Speaker 5 (01:56):
Jake left, when all that that went down, as we
weren't going to have the upside in the preseason rankings
where we needed to.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
Be to have any forgiveness like we didn't get last year.

Speaker 5 (02:07):
But to be a little outside still give the chip
on sold of the team. I think it's honestly perfect.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
They are getting votes, which means the national respect is there.
Do you find it interesting that the national respect for
BYU is greater than the Big Twelve respect that they
get from the coaches the media this year heading into
twenty twenty five.

Speaker 5 (02:31):
That's a good question. I haven't thought about it that way.
Is that that really is more national I think that's
a good question. I would say it's probably has to
do with like I think the Big Twelve got a
really good look at like Jake, and obviously stats weren't there.
But I think having JP Gunn and obviously Tyler Batty,
I think teams Tyler losing Tyler Baddy thinks gonna be

(02:53):
a bigger deal than I think the defensive line as
a whole is going to upgrade this year. But I
think Tyler Batty, although he did didn't have the sack
numbers we all hoped he would have the amount of
double teams he pulled because of it, I think there's
a lot of just skepticism on whether the defense is
going to be as good as they were, and some
of the havoc that happened last year because of that
I think it will be replenished, and I think with

(03:14):
with Keanu Toun of Austin and stuff like that, it
will be there. But I'm wondering if that's why the
Big Twelve maybe they knew a little more of the
intricate details and that's why they rank him a little lower,
and they kind of thought last year was there. They
were also involved in a lot of the games that
we won at the last second, and they made it
felt like they won those games, but they didn't. So
I mean, those are just the bots that I've had
about it.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
Maybe Brandon, I know, uh, in your day job over
there at Odeon men'swhear Odeon menswear dot com, if you
want to book an appoyment, you're the unofficial outfield out outfitter,
excuse me, the unofficial fitter of the big boys, especially
on that defensive line, defensive and offensive lineman. Come into
Odeon and awful lot, Who do you like in that

(03:55):
D line room? Because that's that's quite the take where
you think that could be even better, especially with a
group that's shuffling a lot along that different defensive front.
Who do you really like on that D line room?

Speaker 5 (04:09):
So, first of all, I'm actually trying to get some
of the D line guys in the get up and suits.
Now we have a ton of the offensive guys, but
now I need to I've talked to is gonna come
in soon and we're gonna get them, and hopefully that
gets a bunch of the other guys coming in and
get them outfitted and suits. But I think I start there.
I think Kenavas is really the key part of making

(04:30):
that defensive line better. I think if Kirkland can come
come back soon, I think him he was sure of that.

Speaker 4 (04:36):
But I think John t also will be really really
good in that middle.

Speaker 5 (04:40):
But I think that the actual talent on the edge
is better than it ever has been, but it's just unproven,
so it's just we're gonna have to see what that
actually looks like. But I think if we can create
the chaos in the middle with Keanu, I think that
they won't be able to double team the outside as
much as they did with Tyler. And hopefully guys like
Hunter Kleig, who has a ton of talent, obviously looking

(05:01):
really good in terms of body size. We'll see if
he can end up kind of replacing that tiger bat.
He probably won't be senior level climate batty, but get
some of that, and then you've got some of those
other guys, Like I think he from Osciata is looking good. Obviously,
he's kind of a third down off the edge kind
of guy. I think you got a lot.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
Of you guys.

Speaker 5 (05:20):
I think body spoon Over is gonna be kind of
that that strong edge side. So I honestly think the
defensive line, call it wise, is better, even though we
lost a lot of proven commodities. I'm just really worried
about are intrigued to see how we actually how it
looks because the guys played last year, maybe not the
highest talent, but they really really delivered and did a

(05:41):
good job last year.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
Absolutely, let's lean in a little bit more to the
disrespect angle, uh if you will, If somebody wants to
cut up some of that with with what Brady from
Odeon mens where is doubting that didn't know?

Speaker 2 (05:53):
I'm just kidding, great, I'm just kidding.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
I'm playing well, let's let's do lean in. Let's do
lean in a little bit to the disrespect angle. Because
four teams from the Big Twelve ranked in the preseason
version of the AP Top twenty five, number eleven, Arizona State,
Kansas State at seventeen, and then iOS State, Texas Tech
back to back twenty two twenty three. The first three

(06:15):
teams out also from the conference BYU Utah Baylor. But
that's that's four teams from the Big twelve, less than
half as many as the ten in the top twenty
five by the SEC, fewer than the six from the
Big ten in there, just more than the three from
the ACC. How do you feel like the conference did

(06:37):
in terms of preseason projections or preseason expectations according to
the media and THEA people.

Speaker 5 (06:44):
I think if you've looked at look at it and
look at the kind of seven in the top twenty eight,
obviously that's not the way they rank it.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
We're not in the top ten. Fives were not there.

Speaker 5 (06:52):
But I think having that number ends up in the
top twenty eight, we actually have more than the Big ten,
and I think that's a pretty you know, cool number, right.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
I think it's pretty fair.

Speaker 5 (07:01):
I think it's hard because if we got ranked higher,
it'd be interesting to see how the parody and kind
of the team the Big tod just we beat each
other up so much that it's hard to know if
we're ever going to get a super higher ranked team
just because of that. But I think it's honestly pretty
fair with was where we're at. I think obviously the
SEC gets the bias.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
I don't know if that A and M should be
where they're apps. They're always gonna get ring high and
they never're gonna end up end up there.

Speaker 5 (07:25):
But but that's that's probably my only drive would just
be some of the SEC teams that just always get
put in the in the preseason rankings, even if they
every year they're in, they never.

Speaker 4 (07:34):
Actually do anything with it.

Speaker 5 (07:35):
But besides that, I think it's pretty fair where the
conference is at.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Brighton Day, CEO of vode On Men's Wear here on
a college football segment brought to you by Odeon Men'swearodion
mensw dot com.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Braidon.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
For all the missionaries out there that have been called
to serve, what deals you have for him going on
right now?

Speaker 5 (07:54):
Yeah, So we have our missionary packages. We actually have
one that we launched just a couple of months ago.
It's twelve hundred dollars. It's gets you know, basically everything
you need and saving it five hundred dollars So if
you're looking to save five hundred dollars for your missionary
coming and get us.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
One of our packages.

Speaker 5 (08:08):
We have all kinds of different packages to try and
make it customizable and easy for you going to the
different areas.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
Of the world and the different needs you have.

Speaker 5 (08:16):
But I know we also do our free missionary gifts,
So anybody who's going, we want the product to be
the proof to be in the product, not just in
our in our words, and so we give you a
free shirt, a free pair of socks just for having
a mission call, because we believe in our stuff enough
that we think that if you come in and try it,
you're gonna like it and you're gonna come back.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
So who's your favorite?

Speaker 1 (08:33):
Like, if you had your like, who you rooting for
to be the quarterback the QB one? Do you are
you rooting for any one guy to be the quarterback?

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Be it McKay, Tracon or Bear.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
That's a good question.

Speaker 5 (08:47):
I've kind of gone back and forth on this as
camp has gone on. I would say I'm probably rooting
for it to be Bear because if Bear can prove
that it's in over to you guys that have had
experience in at the FBS level. Then that's a really
good sign that Bear is really really good and he's
gonna be able to kind of Obviously there'll be freshman's
mistakes and stuff like that, So I'm probably rooting for

(09:07):
it to be Bear just because that means we're in
a really good spot with the future.

Speaker 4 (09:13):
Yeah, I guess that's probably my answer.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Hey, I think it's a It's an answer that many incugrination,
you know, are That's how they're responding to it. They're
rooting for Bear Bachmeyer. There's a surge of of.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
Of Bear fans everywhere. They're everywhere here in prov And one.

Speaker 4 (09:32):
Caveat with that is I'm not going to be disappointed
if it's not fair.

Speaker 5 (09:35):
Like sure, probably McKay's my next guy, because I do
you think I trust a Rod and he's gonna make
the right decision.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
But I an area for yu if.

Speaker 5 (09:44):
Bear ends up being the guy and he's better than
these two other guys that have played okay, and there
are other stops at the other schools.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
What's your biggest concern heading into twenty twenty five as
a BYU fan.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
Quarterback.

Speaker 5 (09:58):
I mean that's obvious, but I think I think that's
just kind of I and on this joy I've said
the multiple times I'm higher on I was always higher.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
On Jakes than the collective fan base.

Speaker 5 (10:07):
Sure, and so I'm intrigued to see how he does
or how we do without him, and see how much
of the obviously the statline wasn't crazy, but see how
much of last.

Speaker 4 (10:17):
Year was Jake versus not.

Speaker 5 (10:19):
I hope that I'm wrong that he was such a
big part of it and we end up just doing
it's just as good or better than we did last year.
But that's probably the one I'm most nervous about. I
think the offensive line's gonna gel well. I think both
tackles look great, obviously replacing them, but I think both
of the guys that are replacing there are going to
do great. I think the receiving corps is so deep.
I think the running backs you're gonna be even better
than last year. We basically have everybody as long as

(10:41):
if Falaw gets his waiver, than we literally have basically
everybody on the teams there on offense, and then the
defense I think is going to be even better. So
I really think quarterbacks my biggest question mark.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
I've been told that this two thousand and twenty five
defense is just as good, maybe even better than that
twenty twelve defense, And quite honestly, there may be equivalent
seies of offensive production to.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Those two squads as well.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
That twenty twelve team was was eight and five. I
believe lost some close games, some ugly ones, not because
of the defense, but because of lack of offense and
maybe even special teams productivity. Would you be sad within
an eight and five season? Would you say that BA
underachieved Year three Big twelve if they went eight and

(11:38):
five due to some mirror effect of that twenty twelve
team to twenty twenty five.

Speaker 5 (11:45):
I think I'd be sad because I would be sad
that we had took a defense was so good and
we like that was my problem with twenty twelve team, Like, yes,
we won eight games and that was great, but knowing that, hey,
if we would have had an offense to produce at
a normal day level could have been with that amazing defense,
That'll be what I'm most sad about if that's what
happens this year. But I think winning eight games this year,

(12:08):
if that's how we get there, I think eight games
is a great If we can do eight games in
the Big twelve.

Speaker 4 (12:13):
I think that's great.
