Speaker 4 (02:44):
Was the MVP of the Media.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Madness basketball tournament in which he essentially dunked on all
the other Medium members had a triple double. That's why
we call him the Ronald the three Man Ronnie, Hey,
you live it.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Everything was true, extep for the triple double did not
have much. If you would have tried early in the game,
Oh yeah, yeah, absolutely he didn't he yeah, if if
I tried earlier, there was trash being spoken from there
was somebody behind me. I won't say a name that
said I thought he played in rugby because he it's
a bunch of older guys is the game. But then
I got mad and I said, Okay, you want to
see that person come.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
Out, You want to see that guy.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
You want letting that person come out. And I said,
forget the shooting five out. I'm gonna drive and put
my shoulder in everybody's chest and lay the ball up.
And I was like, I'll beat up on the older
thirty five forty year old man had no problem doing that.

Speaker 3 (03:32):

Speaker 5 (03:52):
He's running away from me.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
So they run in a way is very incorrect.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
One's wait, wait, wait, wait, Mark calling out Roddy one
of the.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
One because I'm gonna because I'm gonna put the cameras
up this time and everything. He's gonna get hurt. He's
gonna get hurt. Don't call me out, and don't do that.
Don't poke the bear. Don't poke the bear.

Speaker 5 (04:12):
With way too many short Mexicans in my life growing
up in the Mexican neighborhoods.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
In Chicago, Mexican, I know what that has to do
with the situation. But okay, it's too easy, all right,
I'll be bawling him. Okay, don't know what the Mexicans
have to do with it. But I'm not Mexican. I'm black.
But all right though, but you're you're just as short
as they used to be.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
When I was.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
So shorter than me.

Speaker 5 (04:32):
I don't know, Bro, I was playing against five foot
four Mexicans.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Bro, not five four? Again? Again? Lies not five four.
It's gonna be on the program, which you've been.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Martin, real quick, shout out to your food truck. We
want everybody to go try at Chicago dog food truck. Hey,

broke my window, and so we kind of need to
recuperate some money and try to get our bus fixed
up a little bit. So yeah, come on down to
the Soho Food truck Park on the Mill Creek area.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Will be there until nine o'clock.

Speaker 5 (05:16):
Get a lemonade, get a Chicago dog, get an Italian beef,

Kevin Reynolds whore joined us at three zero five, a
little cougar beat. He represents the Salt Lake Tribune. He
panned a peace recently in the trib that is costing

(05:43):
a big bit of a ruckus a little bit of
a stir, as.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
The trip tends to do on occasion.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
You know, there are those out there that do not
appreciate the perspective of the trip. We're gonna get Kevin
Reynolds on the line to discuss it, amongst other things.
So stay tuned don't go Anywhere three oh five. The
article is entitled I believe a top LDS church officials
said BAU Sports would never pay for play, then came
millions more in spending. It's led to the uncomfortable question

(06:15):
is this modern version of athletics at odds with BYU's
mission can read it at the trip.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
We'll discuss it at three oh five.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Don't want to miss that, and as well as Eron
Torres Erin Torris again to join us at three thirty,
host of Fox Sports Radio and the Erin Torres podcast.
College football College basketball Insider, don't want to miss that either.
By women's soccer midfielder Mia Lopez and Mia give me
the last name, goetchi getche At three forty five, Ronalan

(06:45):
three man Weaver caught up with those two baller shot
collars on the pitch.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
I mean, Ben, it's not too often where you beat
a ranked team down a man and three of your
goals and a comeback in a second half come from
three freshmen. Crazy anyway?

Speaker 3 (06:58):
Crazy the movement at b for Billiam wins Soccer Next Level.
Tim Brown of RG six series joining 's that four
or five A little college football update I caught up
with Tata kua U Byu wide receiver competing for that
four five and six spot in the wide receiver room
four thirty. Get his updates on fall camp Camp Killani
where he's trending what his goals are. Who's looked good

(07:20):
to him on the offensive defense side of the ball.
Then Ronald the three man Weavers one on one with
Preston Rex, Right, are we playing that? We played the
Preston Rex down presson Rex noun we are okay, okay,
five oh five, So don't miss that five oh five
press and Rex. Now he was competing for that RB
three job and it's kind of up for grabs right now.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
I think he'll be the RB three. I'm going on record,
sam By stock in him right, you know, I know
that the pain is coming, right, but I think between
Preston and you know, Logan pain like you got him,
but not even just that Ben like Joe Vessel Demony,
like he's showcasing something. Byu posted a clipt and social

(08:03):
media team of him hurdling someone and everybody on the
sidelin and being like, WHOA didn't expect that? A trainer
Chase Roberts like they cut to a lot of people's faces.
So RB three is up for grabs. I like what
I've seen from all these guys. Is it Joe Vesa
de MOODI? Is it Pressed and Rex? Is it?

Speaker 4 (08:22):
Logan Payton? Is it Charles Miska? Some names?

Speaker 3 (08:27):
Enich now Wahen he's been a little bit tinged up.
We haven't been able to see him as much. Lucky
Fena who's been out of the lineup case and Krebs
who's gonna be RB three?

Speaker 4 (08:38):
And why do you feel that way?

Speaker 3 (08:40):
We had a few nice highlights coming out of the
scrimmage from over the weekend, Brady, but Bingk will join
us later on in the show. You don't want to
miss that as he breaks down this Cougar depth chart
and the roster who's showing up, showing out and stepping
up prior to the season. All that and more here
on your UTAH ESPN Radio network without further ado, Why
don't we get into the nitty gritty brought to you

(09:01):
by Complete Circuit Electric, Complete Circuit Electric UTAH dot com.

Speaker 5 (09:05):
Gentlemen, we have please presents with that interpretation of the
nitty gritty.

Speaker 6 (09:12):
To one too.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
So anyways, let's get down to then.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
Neddie Gritty always brought to you by our good friends
over at Complete Circuit Electriccomplete Circuit Electric Utah dot Com.
Looking for an audience, started working cost transparent electrician who's
also a big BYU fan.

Speaker 4 (09:44):
Let him earn your business today, Rust and Taylor. He's
the best in the.

Speaker 3 (09:47):
Business over twenty three years of experience. He's a master
electrician that does it the right way. Family owned and
operative satisfaction always guarantee you whenever you're dealing with your electricity.
You want to do it the right way. You want
to do with the code. You don't want to cut
any corners. I know many of you guys like the
local handyman that's gonna give you the significant discounts. We
still give discounts at Complete Circuit Electric, mentioned myself for

(10:09):
ESPN the Fan, but we're gonna do it the right way.
When you're dealing with your most valuable assets, your family
and your home, you want to do it the right way,
or your office building for that matter. Eight A one
four hundred zero eighty five. That's eight A one four
hundred zero eighty five Complete Circuit Electric, Complete Circuit Electric
Utah dot Com. I want to start off this segment,
I feel like all of the highlights that came out

(10:32):
of the scrimmage over the weekend, they were centered on
the running back room. Yeah, okay, we saw highlights from
a couple of different running backs. Joe Ves de Mooney
taking it off tackle off the right side, the red
shirt freshman number twenty eight boot scooting and buggin and

(10:55):
hopping over, showing his bunnies over a defensive back that
shall not be name because he got hopped over.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
I mean it's in the video, so not gonna name him,
not gonna throw him under the bus in the video,
he's already he went low, go after them ankles, and
he paid the price with a scatty, quick, fast running
back six foot one ninety the retrofreshman out of Providence,

(11:23):
Utah Ridgeline.

Speaker 4 (11:24):
High School, Joe Vess the Moody.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
So Joe Vessa showing in ability to not only get
off tackle, get up field and making you miss that
to me, is RB three material? What do we know
about Joe Vessa the Moody as one of our candidates
to be RB three.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
We gotta find a RB three that's reliable and I'm
serious man with in here like, Hey, we're gonna be
able to do this and that and be able to
run the ball and YadA YadA.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
I'm like, bro, we got two running backs right now.
We got two.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
When you say this sounds so bad.

Speaker 3 (12:01):
Over the last fifteen years, name a season in which
we have not delved into the depth of the running back.

Speaker 4 (12:07):
Room time and time again. I don't care if I mean.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
The only times really is like the Tyler Rowse year
Jamal Williams. These are like when you have an individual
that is a mid round NFL draft pick one, thousand
yard rusher and durable. Those are the times you don't
get to RB three as often, very rarely do you
get to RB three. And maybe you have that, maybe

(12:31):
you have that in LJ Martin's case, But over the
first two years, LJ has not shown to be overly durable.
It's not like he's gonna break at any moment. He's
still big, he's strong, he's fast, he's quick. You know,
he's he's semi durable. But he gets an ankle injury,
gets a little soft tissue here. Now, he did completely

(12:53):
revamp his offseason. He looked really good. He's looked really good,
but has still not gone through the riggers yet of
a season. Can he persevere? Can he stay healthy? Like
unto Jamal, like unto Tyler Alesier. So the data is
just not in your favor to just be able to
field two running backs, especially with the idea that you're

(13:15):
going to be running a two back system with LJ
and shone. That means more reps, more totes, more touches,
more blocking, more running, more fatigue. And that's great for
them initially, but when they're off the field taking a spell,
you can make an argument that you know you don't

(13:35):
have much at RB three R before. You don't have
enough there. You don't have enough experience, you don't have
enough talent. Some would say we got to figure out
RB three RB four. You've seen Logan pain enter into
the equation. Okay, return missionary. Good football player in high school,

(13:57):
was dynamic, productive, see player. Some would say a little undersize,
but you know, five ten two fifteen, that's a that's
a good size running back.

Speaker 4 (14:09):
I like the thickness.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
I like the girth, and he was a good athlete,
had some good top end speed for his size coming
out of high school.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
I like him.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
Remember, we have not seen over the last week. Any
highlights from prescant Rex. We have not seen any highlights
from Enik Nawahine who. Both of those guys were getting
early reps with the threes and fours. Now we're not
seeing them. We don't see any highlights from them. This
is the social media that's been put out. There could
be reps given.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
Or it could be nicked up. You never know. It's
one of two reasons. Either reps are not giving or
nicked up. That's only two reasons.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
Those are the reasons why we ain't seeing them right now.

Speaker 3 (14:44):
With a running back three four five competition of Bruin,
we've seen Charles Miska, We've seen him get featured a
few times, a few toads. So you got Joe Vessa,
Logan Payin, you got Charles Misca, and quite honestly, between

(15:04):
those three guys, I don't know if you have one
maybe division one offer between all three of them. As
Logan I believe was a preferred walk on him, maybe
had offers to like maybe we were.

Speaker 4 (15:18):
State, Yeah, I think so maybe.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
And then you had Joe Vessa, who I think whose
only offer was BYU. Now he could have been recruited
else where he was a good high school football player,
and maybe most of the coaches knew that these guys
were the last name of de Mooney and last name Payne.

Speaker 4 (15:32):
They weren't going anywhere else. They're going to b yu
know much.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
I think Charles Mesca maybe was gonna look at walking
On at Virginia once upon a time, I believe. So
he's out of Lorton, Virginia, South County High School, served
a Spanish speaking mission to Oakland, San Francisco area. Prepped
at South Canyon High School through for he was a

(15:57):
quarterback through for two thy three hundred yards and twenty
seven tons, shouting and rush. Wonder when I saw him
fifteen touchdowns as a senior man my first teen All
region at all district quarterback. Also played baseball at South County.
So he's a converted quarterback.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
Five eleven, two fifteen red shirt freshman.

Speaker 3 (16:15):
That's what I'm saying. You got these young bucks. So
do we have a favor right now? Obviously if he
was healthy, it would be nick nowhen oh, of course,
but we don't know.

Speaker 4 (16:24):
We haven't seen him in a minute.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
I mean, I mean, I mean, let's go two ways,
because we both have to be realistic, right, because if
a guy gets healthy in two weeks and yes, but
if it's healthy, it's inignow he way no doubt. And
then I think after him, Preston Rex probably gets put
at four because he's done more than converted him over.
He was on the field. Remember he played slot receiver
in high school. Ben like, we we forget about that.

(16:48):
Like my interviewing, we'll hear for him in a five
or five segment. People forget that, Preston President said, people
forget that Isaac and I both are fast and played offense.
Isaac just six six and I'm six foot. We'll forget
that people because people like, oh wow, pressing you really fast,
that's because I back metal. But now I'm running forward
and I bring this up because this is data. Right.

(17:08):
He sees more than we do. He's a little bit
more with the BA TV insider blame. Fowler mentioned presso
Rex He's like presser rexes look great. He looks great.
Like he repeated it twice. Whenever you call someone brilliant
or your peatrier statement twice, it means they that they've
been balling out.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
You're either prone to hyperbole, yes, or well, this is
not truly, this is not me.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
This is not a hyperc hyperbolic as I like to say.
Take with the nineteen eighty four Do you utilize hyperbole?
Sometimes I do. Sometimes I utilize hyperbole. Your Twitter would
know that from I have it. I have a bookmarked.
We'll come to fruition. I can eat crow in April.
If that's not true anyway, but this is football season.
But the point is, I think if those guys are
all healthy, I think it's inignahi way, and then I

(17:49):
think Press and Rex is after that. But can I
be honest, I'm gonna go this take and this is
not hyperbole. You could potentially see all of those dudes
this year, A big guy. Look at who's I'm not
gonna say that. I know that they're hurt. I haven't
seen him so as soon that they're not going. But
if Preston Rex can't go, if Edie can't go, and
in those guys and then LJC on it, you tell

(18:10):
me what that means. You played, I was in the
locker room. If I don't see the guy and he's
not getting reps, it means he hurt. So we've had
it where we see what Jake Kritchlow, Man, I remind
you of that quarterback got hurt. It's happened every year
last year, guys. This is not me making up and
trying to be funny. The SMU game, both l J

(18:32):
and Hinckley got rolled up on and they did not play,
and then it was the emergency and you know what
happened in that game. Do you want to remind me
he got hurt the week after and then Enich balled
out against Baylor, right, and then he got dinged. That's
a part of it, running back. And I'm sorry, Ben,
I don't care. You can say Lineman, sorry Martin, you
can say, uh, you know, quarterback, No, running back is

(18:55):
the most unforgiving position in football, high school, pee wee,
you know, college, NFL. Your body gets beat up. You're
in past protection, you're in the past game. You have
to run through the tackles are off tackle, inside zone,
sweeps back to You're getting beat up every play, Ben,

(19:16):
So it's a part of it. So if you had
to have me pick and I and I'm not trying
to be rude, there's a chance that, based on history,
l jency one might get hurt. And that's not because
they're not good football players. That's the nature of it.
Of that you have to take way more bruising and
taxing punishment than a lot of other positions. But the
point is, going back to your point, is I've gone

(19:36):
on this tangent in this amazing soliloqueed that I would
like to say of the running back room, who's running
back three and four? I have no idea, and we
gotta figure out because one and two they get hurt.
So I guess it's gonna be. You know, we flip
a coin. Are you what's the thing the little jiggle thing?
You look and who pops up on the screen of
that little thing? All right, I guess it's your church Besa.

(19:56):
I guess your turn. Logan, I guess you're paying Preston.
We have you know, Charles like all of these guys
could be featured this year. And that's not joking. I
know I'm laughing, but I'm being serious of I said
this in the offseason. I said it when Aiden Robbins
didn't come back. I thought the running back position, the
depth scared me that they didn't go get anybody. And
again now because I don't hear them saying a three

(20:19):
or a four or five. I'm worried if ljsc on
to go down, they might be in a little bit
of trouble.

Speaker 3 (20:27):
Do you hope that Heinkley replying gets so wah right,
please fill out get it now. I'm begging.

Speaker 1 (20:32):
I'm begging in Seattle on my knees. I'm praying. I've
never prayed hot all fast for it. We need to
fast as cougarnation. I'm not trying to have any sacrilegious
We need to fast, cougarnation. Jordan put it out there.
We need to fast.

Speaker 4 (20:45):
Do not put it out there? Do not putting it
out there?

Speaker 1 (20:48):
No, do not So I can't have that funny one.
All right, I'll put it off.

Speaker 3 (20:51):
Well, I guess you could say ron Hold would like
to fast.

Speaker 4 (20:57):
But the thing is like I mean, I.

Speaker 1 (20:59):
Just the people up north of my call. I'm just
I mean, here's the thing. Let's all pray hard that
Hinckley or Patzi because we believe in prayer that you
can do that. It might be I might it is
a selfish reasons been.

Speaker 4 (21:12):
Do whatever it is that you feel comfortable with hundred percent.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
And I'll sit on air I myself should be fasting
that they can get the waiver Frek. It's a good
football player. All drunks aside. You want Hinckley back. That
nobody and you've heard the urgency in Aaron Roddicks's voice.
He's done great things. I think he senses the urgency
in the running back room if you could get Hinkley
or Pozzi back for at least another year. If not
to no one on this staff is going to complain
and says we don't want that. I think right now

(21:38):
there is some desperation of debt running back.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
Gotta find him. We'll see who steps up.

Speaker 3 (21:44):
If we got the talent, the abilities, uh to continue
to move the football.

Speaker 4 (21:50):
Has been consistently.

Speaker 3 (21:52):
Confident that b YUS offense is gonna be able to
run the ball this year, gonna be able to run
the ball. Ye, you do need a You need some
running to do it. You need RB three and RB
four most likely to do it. You need to at
least spell l Jancie can't be on the field the
entire game.

Speaker 4 (22:10):
Can they Maybe they can? Maybe, I'm uh, you know,
out of breast.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
It's something, whether as it pertains to running back attrition
or running back fatigue, something to discuss. No doubt it's
a concern of mine. It should be a concern of
cougar nations. We gotta have someone step up.

Speaker 4 (22:25):
Who is it?

Speaker 3 (22:26):
Logan Pain has looked nice, Joe Vess Demonias to look nice.
One of my favorite low key guys is actually Charles Miska.
I know like he's coming along. He hasn't received the
highlights like I kind of like Charles Misca, be honest
five eleven, two fifteen, has a good build to him.
We'll see if he can pick up the offense. But

(22:48):
it's a heated competition, a heated battle. Will continue to discuss,
probably on into the first few weeks of the season,
as we have a little bit of a running back rotation.
That is your nitty gritty brought to you by Complete
Circuit Electricomplete Circuit Electric utah dot Com.

Yeah, having like a Chicago dog in your hand from

Speaker 4 (25:47):
Yeah, you're right. What what does cougar Nation need right now?

Speaker 1 (25:52):
Right? It's a good question leading up to national media
not to say that it's bear Bachmeyer Brett Hammer who
I won't reveal too much all that you reveal it, okay,
in a little bit of what's happening, right I can't. Yeah,
I'll let you reveal it. But it polled the fans.
Do you want do you want the media to tell
you the quarterback is or do you want byu? It

(26:13):
was like BYU to say who the starting quarterback is
in notational media. So that's what cougarnation wants. They want
to hear from Aarononrick to Kalani. They don't want it
for me.

Speaker 4 (26:25):
You say it, well, they don't want national media either.

Speaker 1 (26:28):
That I mean doesn't mean national. I'm just categorizing all
of us. But they don't want local or national to
say anything.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
Well, last week, Pete NACo's reported on three that that
bear Blachmeyer was trending to be the starting quarterback.

Speaker 4 (26:41):
I think he.

Speaker 3 (26:41):
I don't know if you even put any sort of
qualifier on there. Many news outlets went with it, ran
with it. It seems like that is the trend right now.
Bear Bachmeyer is going to be your starting quarterback? Why
is bear Bachmeyer going to be the starting quarterback. Do
you think Ronald the three man weaver?

Speaker 4 (26:59):
And this is my question of the day.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
Like those that have seen Bear Bachmeyer, how would you
describe him as a player, as a football player.

Speaker 4 (27:08):
Tell me what you've seen.

Speaker 3 (27:09):
Maybe you've watched his film, maybe you saw him in
high school, maybe you've been watching him during fall camp.

Speaker 4 (27:17):
What do you think?

Speaker 1 (27:18):
Yeah, I think the biggest thing is how he's been able.
And I look at it like this, Ben and I
can say this right and again, no one cares about rugby,
but I've seen if a guy's able to come in
and exceed expectations right away, he forces the coaches to
make a decision. And that's what Bear has done. He's
come in, by the way, he went to Stanford just
to let everybody know because he forget some the means.

(27:38):
He's a brilliant kid. Is Aarontica said, he's super smart
to pick up the playbook what he got here in June,
to pick it up that quickly, been here less than
three months in p town capitol pro lower case up. Sorry,
so he's good. He's been in provo less than ninety days.
Oh man, can't even get you know, probably address and

(28:00):
things like that permanent for his residency, and he's had
fifteen practices. Maybe you could argue I'll say twelve to
fifteen to be more accurate, and he stole the job.
He's the literally, it's the Grinch, you know, the nightmare
before Christmas for Trayson Boorga and McKay Hilston. I'm sorry,
it is like it's the Grinch. He took it out
of your hands and said thank you very much, thank

(28:22):
you for playing, and showed up and no one saw
this coming at all. It was by surprise. But Ben,
it's the talent. We talk about it. Look at basketball
to compare it. When you start bringing in high level
star talent, a former four star that correlates, that starts
to speed up. There's a reason why those guys are

(28:43):
able to start at the highest level and play now.
He is a freshman. But that just means to me
that obviously he was too impressive and warm impressive than
McKay and Trayson Boorgay that Aaron Rodger Kloneze TAKEI FESSI.
The ones that a rodders said make the decision were like,
we cannot do this, we have to make this decision
or give him one reps and we've seen it now

(29:05):
with our own eyes. Tight window throws to Carson Ryan
with Tanner Wall draped all over it. Good throws to
Josiah Phillips in the slot over the middle. I mean,
what else can you ask for? Throws the tiger backmar
even his brother even we saw a video right everything
breaks out, he reached the defense, probably goals and scores
a touchdown within two seconds. Read the defense that he

(29:25):
is so smart Ben as a quarterback, he is so dynamic,
and he's so young, and the upside is there, and
I'll repeat it. It was too It sounds like it's
too close, and the same thing that happened last year
with Gary and Jake is happening this year. Bear made
it too close and was so good. Maybe you could
already even maybe better that the coaching staff has been like,

(29:48):
we gotta go with the guy that has the more
eligibility because of what he could become. And my heart
and I just feel sad for McKay and tracing and
he hasn't been named. I could be wrong, but I
feel sad because because this guy showed up literally yesterday
and didn't have a chance to even pass gas and
now he's probably gonna be the QB one.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
When he was coming out of high school, this was
the scattering report that two four seven gave him, and
his projection.

Speaker 4 (30:15):
Was power for starter stand up.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
Greg Biggins, national recruiting analysts, said this about Bear Bachmeyer.
He's an exciting dual threat quarterback who could get a
defense with his arm or his legs. At six foot two,
two twenty five, he's built like a tank and can
take off and run for big yards and does a

(30:40):
nice job escaping initial pressure and extending plays. He can
also beat you from the pocket and is a very
competent thrower. He has a strong arm, quick release, and
can throw from different arm angles. He's comfortable throwing rolling
out to either direction. Is a tough kid and a

(31:01):
fierce competitor. He wants the ball Leyden games and has
shown a clutch gene in his high school career in
being able to rally his his team Leyden games.

Speaker 4 (31:14):
He comes from an athletic.

Speaker 3 (31:16):
Family, with both of his older brothers playing football at
the power five level, and we've always felt Bear this
is two four to seven felt Bear has the.

Speaker 4 (31:26):
Highest upside in the family.

Speaker 3 (31:30):
Guys, we're talking about Hank Bachmeyer, who was one of
the most prolific Boise State quarterbacks in history who ended
up at a P four institution.

Speaker 4 (31:39):
I believe that at Wake fourth.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
And started, I think Hank Bachmeyer, if I'm not mistaken.
He was pretty flirtatious with ten thousand passing yards, which
is insane. That's an insane number when you've produced that
much bro insane numbers from from Hank Bachmeier. So he

(32:02):
played at Boise State. He played in eight games twenty nineteen,
played in five games in twenty twenty, twenty twenty one,
played in twelve games, and then played in four games.
In twenty twenty two, he transferred to Louisiana Tech, played
in nine games, and then his final year twenty twenty
four Wake for US twelve games.

Speaker 4 (32:25):
He tallied he produced.

Speaker 3 (32:28):
I'm just giving you a Hanks, his older brother, and
they're projecting Bear to be better than Hank.

Speaker 1 (32:32):
Crazy.

Speaker 3 (32:34):
So he attempted one thousand, four hund ninety six passes,
completed nine under forty two of those. That's a sixty
three percent career completion percentage for eleven thousand, two hundred
and fifty six yards, eclipsing the ten thousand yard mark
that is insane. Sixty seven touchdowns through the air, thirty

(32:58):
four ironts, so the you know, so.

Speaker 4 (33:00):
The it's probably a little high.

Speaker 3 (33:02):
Ten was his mode was with was the most it
is thrown in the season, and that was a weight
force So maybe a little high there.

Speaker 4 (33:10):
Seven point three yards per attempt. That was Hank.

Speaker 3 (33:14):
His older brother, Hank not much of a duel threat,
only tallied I think what two hundred and four yards
in his career rushing the ball. So I'm looking at
what we've a value, what we've seen from from Bar,
and what our expectations should be. What you've seen as well.

(33:34):
Who is this player? Who's who's the player cop? For
those that haven't seen, If you're gonna describe Bear to somebody,
who are you gonna compare him to? Right, If you're
gonna talk about body type, build, okay, when he's walking around,
what you're gonna say is, you know, this may be

(33:54):
a little bit it's controversial on both sides, but someone
that you can see body type wise, that's proc that
has some proximity to you.

Speaker 4 (34:04):
If you look at Cam Rising, yeah.

Speaker 3 (34:07):
And you look at his body, that's what you're getting
in in this young man like his body type six
two six two and a half two hundred and twenty five,
two hundred twenty pounds.

Speaker 4 (34:15):
That's who bare bach Byer is.

Speaker 3 (34:17):
Another person that he's been described as body type wise
and even athletically.

Speaker 4 (34:23):
Is Tim Tebow?

Speaker 3 (34:24):
Now, now you gotta take that with a grenn salt,
like this is body type. These are foundationable foundational uh,
strength and conditioning and genetics. We're talking about here body
type and we're not talking about his mechanics.

Speaker 4 (34:40):
We're not talking.

Speaker 3 (34:40):
About necessarily anything other than what he looks like and
what he runs like. So he's got that same feel
to him, Cam Rising. Tim Tebow is the type of
player he is physically. Now, who is he as a
thrower mechanically speaking? That's another question, that's another answer. And
you know he's a good thrower. We had John Beck

(35:03):
on our show about I don't know a month that
we like was it was it a month ago?

Speaker 4 (35:10):
No, it was less than that.

Speaker 3 (35:11):
I mean we had a last week was you know
when we were talking about his mechanicspcif.

Speaker 1 (35:16):
Oh, yeah, about three weeks ago?

Speaker 3 (35:17):
Then yeah, yeah, like right before fall camp or leading
like right the first week of fall camp.

Speaker 4 (35:23):
And and John was honest.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
He said, look at all the guys that can like
really like spin it, like McCay's the guy with like
the best mechanics, quick release, you know, all those things,
and can really rip. But bear you know, he's probably
a I would say, a non traditional thrower in the
sense that this guy was a linebacker running back all
the way up to like ninth grade, and then he
can make the conversion. So you see that in his mechanics.

(35:45):
Not that he's poor mechanics, he's just not not as
good as a guy like McCain's been playing quarterback pretty.

Speaker 4 (35:51):
Much all of his life.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
I haven't going to b y U and the b
YU room right and this and again, I'm I'm uh
got size wise, I don't believe if he's two twenty,
I might have to take a scale to practice and
do this. I'm serious, I.

Speaker 4 (36:07):
Asked, I asked the sad about that.

Speaker 1 (36:09):
I'm like, you sure, dude, are you sure about that?
I thought he told us he was about thirty two
thirty five we interview might to go check tape and say,
gotta check tape. But if even then, if you compare
him body wise, Taysom Mill Taysom was six two two
thirty five. I don't think bears too at b Yu. Yeah,
freshman year he was. I'm looking at it right now
on there online it says two thirty five six two

(36:29):
freshmen pocatel idol in high school. So body wise, not
the player body wise, body white, body wise like well
wise because like Taysoum's built like Luke Staley one hundred
percent all muscles. So we're talking about body and we're
talking about numbers.

Speaker 4 (36:48):
We're not talking about built or like Camp.

Speaker 1 (36:51):
One hundred percent. And that's I said. When we're talking
about numbers, we're not talking about the way he looks,
because we've seen the way he looks, and Taysom did
not look the way Bear looks. You know, what's talking
about Greek god and not Greek God anyway. That's just
the best way to put it. If I had to
compare like NFL wise, I guess Ben and these guys
are thick, right, and Martin might know this a little

(37:11):
bit about because I think Nordre Dame has played against
these schools, but he's more body wise in the NFL.
You know, Baker Mayfield and Sam Howe both around six
to one, maybe six two two, you know two twenty
right there. If he really is two twenty, you look
at that, cuz Baker stick bro like you'll want to
tackle Baker, and Baker could run like if you want
to run Baker, Like Baker was a good college football player,

(37:33):
Like I think people misunderstand that Sam Howe also was
a good college a quarterback. Thick dudes that could throw
the ball maybe weren't the best mechanically. We know Baker
was number on overall. It's different, but maybe Sam Howe wasn't.
But when you ran them it was a problem. And
when they could throw the football was a problem. So
if that's how I'm looking at it right now, and
I think it's way too early to maybe make a comparison,

(37:53):
But six two two twenty, or if he is two
thirty two thirty five, the problem is this. I looked
at high school tape. If you're not gonna go low
on him and he lowers his shoulder, he's probably gonna
run you over. And I think the best way to
get him acclimated, Like, but you know what I do
for first first play August thirtieth against Portland State, And
tell me, if you get on board, you could say no,

(38:15):
I'm keep drawing that thing. Do that thing, clear everybody out,
let the boys up front clear, and run his ass
right up the middle. I said it, and let him
that's the best way. It's sorry to swear. I apologize,
we good. We got children listening to the show. I apologize.
I've been very good.

Speaker 4 (38:30):
But just as I say, not as I do, says
Ron one hundred percent.

Speaker 1 (38:33):
But I'm serious. I think that's the best way to
get himcclimated. That should be the first play out the
gate is do that with him and let him go
on to take a hit and get him fired up.
You mentioned it earlier. Why were these college quarterbacks like
you know well and earlier? Why these other guys so good?
And and we've talked with Brady Pipinka about this. Why
were these guys like Cam Newton maybe so electric or

(38:55):
even you look at what's the guy that played the
Auburn bow knicks down? That's that why run? Let him
use his legs and go out there first couple of
plays and get confident, because when conference play runs around,
you're gonna be taking a different type of different type
of defensive approach when people scout you and hits like
I Aloway say, it's got the number one pass defense
coming back from last season. You got to use your

(39:16):
legs because in that Utah game you might have to
run a lot like what's his name name? What was
his name? Brandon whoever? I can't remember. That's a U
mass Now he used his legs a lot, Ben to
open up the game in the first in the first half.
Excuse me, and I think Bear might have to do
the same thing.

Speaker 3 (39:31):
One of the things Riley Jensen told us last week
his player cop was this, He said, because I asked
about his ceiling, he said, he's an NFL typ quarterback.
He's big, he's strong, he's smart, he's mobile. He reminds
me of Jackson Dart or even Josh Allen. Deceptively athletic
and his arm strength, his elite. This isn't just a
kid who got a couple of recruiting letters. Bear had

(39:53):
real offers from Alabama, LSU, Clemson, the biggest of the
big and now he's at by you and he's trending
in that direction to be the starter.

Speaker 4 (40:04):
So give me your player cole.

Speaker 3 (40:05):
Guys, those that have gotten eyes on him, Look, there
were fans that were.

Let Advanced Windows earn your business today. Eight ah one
five o five nine six two two. That's five oh
five nine six two to two. All right, let's talk
about some stats, some numbers here. I put this out
to Cougarnation, want to get your thoughts on it. So

(44:09):
right now, all the preseason polls are coming down. The
pipeline AP Pole has BYU at twenty six in the nation,
obviously right outside the top twenty five.

Speaker 4 (44:17):
Not too bad, not too shabby.

Speaker 3 (44:20):
FPI puts BYU at twenty two. Sp plus also has
BYU kind of in the top twenty five. So what's
interesting about this is nationally, the pundits, the analysts, the
men of metrics They all like BYU to be in
the top thirty in the country at worst top thirty.

(44:43):
Interestingly enough, BYU is not even in the top half
preseason range, the right in the middle of the pack,
probably around eight per the media. I know we haven't
had our Big twelve preseason poll, but anonymous polsters as
well as head coaches aggregated by Brett McMurphy of On
three Sports, there wasn't any coach, there, any media members

(45:07):
that were buying into BYU as a candidate to end
up in Arlington. Not in the top four, not in
the top five. Every once in a while you'd hear
a top six ranking. So what does that mean for BYU?
Why is it that the Big twelve doesn't give BYU
as much respect as the national media, the national coaches,

(45:29):
the national sids, and even the objective metrics, these algorithms
that are put together by unbiased individuals just trying to
make sense of the preseason, looking at rosters, looking at returnity, production,
and essentially, you know, numbers that would tell you what

(45:52):
this team is capable of. I find it very interesting
how proximity breeds enmity a little bit of biased if
you will.

Speaker 4 (46:01):
Why is that, well.

Speaker 3 (46:03):
I lean on the one score games that BYU has
experienced in.

Speaker 4 (46:10):
Their first two years of the Big twelve.

Speaker 3 (46:13):
To me, that's the only answer, combined with I would say,
combined with the fact that during the Kalate Shataki era,
it's not like BYU's recruiting rankings have been out of
this world. They've been hovering around sixtieth, seventieth, sometimes into
the eighties for two, four.

Speaker 4 (46:34):
Seven, now on three.

Speaker 3 (46:36):
Only recently have we seen an uptick in recruiting rankings.
BYU currently in the top twenty five for the twenty
twenty six class. That's awesome, that's great, that's grand, that's wonderful.
But the coaches and even maybe the media members are
looking at BYU their one score games is combined with
their talent. They did pick up a few nice acquisitions
to via the portal, but they're still their core team

(46:59):
is built off of three star athletes, two star athletes,
walk on PWO athletes. It's not like you have a
bunch of dudes on this BYU roster at its core
that that other teams were re vying for.

Speaker 4 (47:18):
I'm not saying they don't have those guys. They do.

Speaker 3 (47:20):
They have some of the guys that are we're talking
about high level, three star, four star, and maybe you know,
I don't know if we have any five.

Speaker 4 (47:26):
Stars early on the roster.

Speaker 3 (47:27):
But those are the two reasons my key stats of
the day why there's a little bit of doubters out
there in the Big twelve. Proximity breeding, a little enmity
seeing maybe even some of the weaknesses of this BYU
football team up close and personal. They feel like BYU
is getting by by the skin of their teeth. The

(47:50):
ball just bounced BYU's weigh a little bit more in
twenty twenty four, where whereas in twenty twenty three the
ball did.

Speaker 4 (47:57):
Not bounce BYU's way. They should have.

Speaker 3 (48:00):
Been in certain games, even on the back end of
the schedule, there's not much. There's not as much respect,
in my opinion, in the Big twelve compared to what
it is. The respect is nationally interesting, anecdote interesting, I
think metrics that we delve into. So that leads me

(48:22):
to my next question, what are your expectations then for
this BYU football team. I believe that the odds makers
has put the win total at six and a half games.
Every single BYU fan minus a few is gonna take
the over there, they're gonna take the over all day

(48:45):
every day we're going bowling plus.

Speaker 4 (48:48):
We're going bowling plus eight games.

Speaker 3 (48:51):
Eight total wins is quota year in and year out
at BYU.

Speaker 4 (48:57):
That is a fact.

Speaker 3 (49:00):
Anything less is failure per Kugarnation, I believe FPI recently
dropped their win total prognostication and it sits at eight
point seven. So the metrics are liking BYU. Now I'll
flip the script here. Last year, the metrics and the
humans did not like BYU. I mean, you're talking four

(49:21):
and a half five total wins across it all, and
BYU overachieved. Maybe, somehow, some way, the metrics and even
some of the humans nationally at least are beginning to
come privy to the game.

Speaker 4 (49:35):
Maybe the recruits are underrated.

Speaker 3 (49:38):
Maybe they do also overachieve per their recruiting ranking, a
combination of both, and maybe BYU has better coaches than
the opposition thinks they do, at least within the Big
twelve conference.

Speaker 1 (49:51):
Can I jump in and give the numbers because of
this stats this is false data. I feel like per
Bill Colley, games in the Big Twelve last year were
decided about one score margins a fewer, right, and that's
pulling that love Bill. Gotta get him on the show.
But here Aret Bou's one score games SMU. You know
they won one score game, Baylor one score, Oklahoma State
win Utah one score, ready, Kansas State lost Arizona State,

(50:12):
they lost Okay. So they what were four and two
six games? And in other games that they did in
the blue Arizona out they were beating UCF, Houston and
Colorado the spanking in the bowl game, here's the rest
of the conference. Houston was two and oh and one
score games. In the Big twelve, West Virginia was three
and oh. Cincinnati was won and three in the Oklahoma
State was OZ three. So that's not entirely accurate. Sent

(50:32):
it the ball bounced their way. You could say the
ball bounced their way for other people in the Big twelve.

Speaker 4 (50:36):
Bin.

Speaker 1 (50:36):
I get it, I hear it.

Speaker 3 (50:37):
But many people objectively look at the SMU game and
they don't think, Bay you should have won that game.

Speaker 4 (50:42):
They got lucky with a bunch of goal line stands.

Speaker 1 (50:44):
I understand.

Speaker 3 (50:45):
The Baylor game was interesting because BAU was out front,
in control, and Baylor came roaring back.

Speaker 4 (50:50):
It was a thirty four to twenty eight win. I
don't think you can make an argument for that.

Speaker 3 (50:53):
The Oklahoma State game, it was kind of a I mean,
you got a fourth down conversion, rolling to your right,
tossing it up to chase is a great play. They
don't look at that as a skill play. They look
at that as a luck play, if you're looking at
it from a negative lens. The bar Ja retz Laft
threw the ball intended for Josiah Phillips and it entered
into the arms of Darius last.

Speaker 4 (51:13):
Year before he scooted into the end zone.

Speaker 3 (51:15):
So like there is a component of luck here in
these one score games that you're feeling like, Okay, the
Utah game, some things didn't go BYU's way. The Isaiah
Glasker a phantom face mask shouldn't have been called.

Speaker 4 (51:29):
It wasn't a face mask.

Speaker 3 (51:31):
In fact, I think Logan Fano ended up face masking
one of BYU's players. By you got lucky maybe on
that final drive, but it was.

Speaker 4 (51:37):
Still a hold. Objectively, it's it's a hold as hold
as hold.

Speaker 3 (51:41):
It was the right call at the time, and it
extended the drive and bay you ended up having to
still execute on a on a forty four yard field
goal for the game.

Speaker 4 (51:48):
But some people view that as what you love.

Speaker 1 (51:51):
You can't say it as a new game as luck
because they just had as many turnovers as B Why
you did.

Speaker 3 (51:55):
I'm just saying, there's god be some that take the
negative lens here.

Speaker 1 (51:59):
If there was launch positivity with that film, yes, But
as your.

Speaker 3 (52:03):
Theory as to why the Big twelve, the coaches, the players,
the media that are most close to B, why you
are doubting them as.

Speaker 1 (52:12):
It's what you said, it's the start talent. Look at
the Arizona State game. In the Texas game, what happens
when they're backed up? And it was fourth and eleven
or fourth and eighteen, Right and Martin I both thought
the game was over. I textans said the game is over,
Arizona State's gonna win. And what happened? Quinn Ewers, who
is a five star quarterback or four star, throws a
touchdown past the Golden who's the four star receiver. Both
those guys got drafted. Right, That's that's how you look

(52:34):
at it. You're not looking at Bous quarterback from last year.
Jake is like, oh, they look at him, probably as
a no star guy went to Joko, o'ts how to
you at the running back? Okay, he's solid Chase Roberts,
but they like you're Kyle Whittingham. They got a solid
group of guys. They don't have one guy that stands out.
That's how their peers in the Big twelve view them.
They view them that. But guess what. You know what
happens when you stack a bunch of guys that are

(52:55):
medium or if you want to say, mediocre together, which
I don't think they're mediocre. You know what happens when
you put guys that are in the middle, that are
all good together, You create an army, a strippling warriors,
and then they give you some belt the booty. What
happened in that Colorado game? I thought Colorado had way
more talented they Sadu went out there, Travis Hunter went
out there. They were healthy. What happened in that game?
Last time I checked? So Byu has better athletes than Colorado?

(53:18):
I thought they didn't. Though, that's what you change it
No that they want to pick apart because BYU's not sexy.
They don't have the sexy coach like Prime is not entertaining.
They don't have the star guy. They have a guy
that in Colonie Satacket is very lovable and you can't
hate them, So how can you root against them? So
you got a respect of a business type where you're
not gonna say anything bad, but guess what you can

(53:39):
talk about their players in their regard. And I just
think it's absurd because this team is talented. They're about
to have two linebackers drafted in the top three rounds.
To me, that's talent last time I checked.

Speaker 3 (53:50):
Yeah, But still like it's not like it's not like
these coaches, these opponent coaches.

Speaker 1 (53:56):
They're not seeing it from that point.

Speaker 3 (53:58):
They are very well away of the talent that's on
BYU side of the ball. They went up against it,
they watch film, and still they come back after a
season they're like, nah, middle of the pack.

Speaker 1 (54:10):
I know, preseason polls, the medal of the pack even
put them on they said, what has the Glaska and
Jackin did was okay? But respect the.

Speaker 4 (54:16):
Look at the votes for preseason big time.

Speaker 1 (54:18):
The only Chase got. They only respect Chase, That's what
I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (54:22):
And so like they're saying, like you have average to
above average and I'm not trying to be rude, and
that's why you're not.

Speaker 1 (54:28):
I'm taking it a step further. I'm gonna look at
what the national guys above them. They get paid way
more money to do. What are doing it? Jack Kelly?
And is the Glaska on the big boards for linebackers
that tell they're being looked at they are a problem.
These preseason awards aren't fake, So I don't give a
respectfully a da you know, you know what about what
these big twelve their peers think. I'm looking at what

(54:50):
in the national people saying and the national people feel.
I'll say this, Okay, do you really think they're gonna
kick the Parker Kingston If that's the case, If you
don't view by you like that, go ahead and kick
the Parker Kingston and watch them burn you. They're not
gonna do that.

Speaker 4 (55:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (55:05):
Again, I go by what you tell, by what you
show me the rather what you tell me. They can
say whatever they want. I promise you that when they
get into the game, they're gonna be very strategic on
what they do. Because you can say whatever you want
on paper, but when it comes to playing the game,
you respect you respect by you in every which because
if you don't, they're gonna l you like they did
last year this year and their defense is better, and

(55:26):
you can argue they have more offensive talent and depth
at the position than they had last year.

Speaker 3 (55:31):
In twenty twenty three one score games, this is how
it went, and you can make an argument either way
on how these these games should have gone. One score
wins versus Arkansas, that was an interesting game.

Speaker 4 (55:42):
That was an interesting game, thirty eight thirty one.

Speaker 3 (55:44):
B Why you got that dub? Some would say Arkansas
won that game objector lee, but they didn't in statistical
cause it's a hard fought battle.

Speaker 1 (55:52):
I think between both.

Speaker 3 (55:53):
Cincinnati you beat them thirty five twenty seven. I don't
think that one is necessarily controversial. This one score loss
is Oklahoma thirty one to twenty four at home where
Jacob retz Hat threw that pick six, and then Oklahoma
State double overtime at Oklahoma State forty to thirty four
versus two ranked foes, top twenty five teams up two

(56:14):
and two in those games. So it's out the cookie crumbles. Sometimes.
I think there's a combination of a couple of different metrics.
Y BYU's maybe getting slept on nationally but or not nationally,
but locally and within their own big twelve family. Let's
