Speaker 1 (00:06):
When Ben Krittle isn't breaking down Coopy, he some amounts
a film on his beloved Cougar football team. He's talking
Cougar sports and he's doing it right here on one
O three nine at ninety eight three ESPN the fan.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Welcome back Ruger Sports one O three nine, ninety point three.
He has to be at the fan. I'm at Crital
broadcasting from our Banditwealth Studios just south of Lavelle Edwards
Stadium at the ultimate tailgate location, the Swig. And it's
a beautiful day to be a Cooper b WHYU welcome
again Stamford carne BYU a heavy favorite in this one.
The spread at twenty and a half and we're under

(00:43):
a forty four and a half and you're hoping by
you can continue its offensive momentum as they welcome in
a P four opponent from the ACC. I know that's crazy, right,
Stamford is a part of the ACC Conference? You kidding me?
They're only getting a thirty percent share of those TV
rights though, so they are kind of with the precipis
in my opinion, after coming off of three sorry four,

(01:04):
three and nine seasons. Okay, they're kind of dwindling into
a relevancy in my opinion. Shout out to Zach show
my nephew coming up and showing out, balling out tonight
here at our tailgate. But you know, I'm very much
intrigued to see how this BAA Cougar football team competes
versus this P four opponent. Can't wait to see what

(01:27):
happens here tonight under the lights of Leavel and I
think BYU will show well. I think they're staying humble,
staying hungry, staying grounded. They have a great culture, great continuity,
great chemistry, and I wouldn't be surprised if BYU covers
the spread. In fact, I have throughout the week, I've
been a little bit hesitant to go all in on
the twenty one point victory for the BAA Cougars, but

(01:49):
I'll be surprised if they don't get it tonight under
the lights of Level with the twelfth man showing up,
showing out, disruptive and noise, you really need the Cougar
faithful to come out in this game as well as support.
Bear Bachmeyer in his second game as a BYU Cougar,
facing off against his former team, he transferred from the
Stanford Cardinal after springball, Okay, after Andrew Luck made the

(02:14):
decision to bring in Frank Reich as an interim coach
and start the rebuild after the Troy Taylor era. There's
been a lot of tumultuous things that have happened at
the Stanford Cardinal and you just hold by. You can
beat them when they're at the Riekas Stanford is not
in a strong position whatsoever. The only thing you can

(02:35):
say that is strong right now. You can make a
case that over the last five six years they've averaged
a top forty recruiting class and they're coming off a
bye week. That's it. And they have a pretty good
run game. I'm not convinced they have a good quarterback play.
They have a decent defensive front. I think BYU has
a better offensive front. This should be a game that

(02:59):
turns out to be a convince victory. Bill Connley of
sp Plus said he would be surprised if it's not
a blowout tonight. So we gotta get the dub. You
gotta get the win, gotta get the convincing win at that.
Come on, bye, guys, get a hot dog, get some
get some delicious ruper watch some college football games. Let's
get your prep. Let's get you ready for this BYU

(03:20):
Stanford matchup. ESPN gives b YU a ninety percent chance
of victory. Little injury update here, Wayland Lapuaho's out left
guard starting, get left guard for the Bay Cougar's tata
who almost likely out Reggie fris Cannet game time decision.
I think on the defensive side of the ball, watch
out is you know Shaye Bryan Strauthers he a little
bit dinged up? Will he be clear to play? Got

(03:42):
a little inged up last week versus Portland State, so
very much intrigued by him because he he I think
he was on a trajectory to be a star of
his BYU defense this season. Any other injuries that we
should be aware of.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
Ronald the three man Weaver, I think, you know, you
just want to see guys that were ding maybe in
fall camp, how they come out, you know, Week two,
I think the biggest thing is, boy, you did not
start the game on special teams the way they would like.
Last week he k had of fumble. You didn't like
that if you said it as a BYU fan. How
does he look? Just some other normal stuff. But for
the most part, and everybody's you know, pretty healthy.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
You know, maybe.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
Aig I had a little bit of a nagging injurgy.
Guys look healthy for the most part last week. You
don't want to see guys get dinged up. So maybe
that's the thing, you know, maybe we can have Zach
cue up and play the sound clip from Aaron Rodock.
I believe his question number before about health. I think
he said, tay one more week, Reggie, you know, could
be a game time decision, as you already mentioned. But
you know, look, even if you don't have those guys,

(04:40):
and I said earlier in the week, Ben, and I'll
stand by this, I don't think you necessarily need them
to win this game. I think Cody Hagen, Chase Roberts,
who I think can have a big game today and
should Tiger Bachmeyer, Parker Kingston, Jojo Phillips.

Speaker 4 (04:54):
Those should be enough.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
You want to have depth, You want to be playing
your best football been towards the end of the season.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
You don't want to be playing it right now.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Sure would it be a good opportunity to regie a
catcher two, Absolutely, no doubt, get him, you know, ready,
But at the same time, I think you can have
those guys play after the Bible. We can against East Carolina,
which is not going to be a formidable foe.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
I just think you want to keep as many people help.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
Don't put a guy out there has a nagging injury
against a P four physical opponent that could get them
hurt and linger it for the rest of the season.

Speaker 4 (05:21):
Why when do you want everybody to be healthy?

Speaker 3 (05:23):
Ben, Do you know a game is not even West
Virginia or Arizona, it's the Utah game come October eighteenth.
You don't want to put guys in a situation where
they get hurt. Limit them if need to be. I
think the five guys you have available tonight maybe six
or more than enough.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Frank Reich, head coach for the Stanford Cardinal interim head coach,
had just to say about bear Bachmeyer. I think all
eyes are on bear Bachmeyer. You only saw eleven passing
attempts versus Portland State. You want more opportunity to evaluate
who bear bach Myers. We know he can run, we
know he's a He's a Tim Tebow like runner, maybe

(05:58):
with better speed than Tim Tebow. His build, his athleticism,
he's a big, strong runner. Noah sands a buttz about that,
and he's a good decision maker per Aaron Roderck, he
made good decisions with the football, good decisions on when
to keep it and when to give in the Zone
Reid game. But this is what Frank Reich said. My
impressions of him were very positive after watching the Portland

(06:21):
State game. Just from looking at the film and watching
the game. He's an explosive athlete, has a strong arm,
is a threat to run the ball. Kind of figured
that having a little bit of that QB run game
would be in there with him. He's got an explosive
arm as well. I wasn't surprised at all. He's a
talented guy. So, given some respect to bar Bachmeier will

(06:43):
having Bearon Tiger in the opposing locker room give away
Stamford's secrets was one of their questions. Asked to Frank,
he said, I really don't think so. It's both ways.
What we know about Baron Tiger and what they know
about us. My experience with that type of thing is
that it typically gets over rated. I'm not worried about

(07:03):
what they're telling them or what we do, because honestly,
we've changed a good bit since they were here as well.
They run a different scheme than we run. We're early
in the season. I think both teams are focused on
our players and what we do more than anything else.
So your opinion on that matter. Do you think it matters?

(07:25):
Or do you think is it an overrated conversation in
leading up to kickoff?

Speaker 3 (07:30):
No, it only been a conversation if the old coach
was still there, Ben, In my personal opinion, if I'm
being honest, I think you could if you want to
have a storyline or something.

Speaker 4 (07:38):
Sure you might get asked.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
You can say it's a good or a bad question
from whoever decides asking It won't be me. But I
don't really think so, Ben, Right, because they have changed
a lot. I will say this. I'll say this point.
I think for Bear and Tiger, even though you had
a head coaching change, for those on the Stanford roster
that are playing defense that Bear was going up against
and Tiger, you don't want to lose this game for
personal pride, right, you don't want Okay, well, we left

(08:00):
the program because.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
The coach left.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
C You should have stayed, should have trusted the new guy,
But you didn't. That little poking fun thing. You know,
you've been athlete. Guys leave because of that, but you
never want that to linger. So I think that might
be a little bit on their mind, if at all.
I'm like, Okay, we want to be validated that, yeah,
we left BUYU for this reason and you get a dub.
But the rest of that, no, I don't think so.
I think it's way too early to say that it's
a new coach. If it was an old coach, sure,

(08:23):
but Baron Tiger are not at Stanford because of the
coaching change.

Speaker 4 (08:26):
Same thing with LJ with some other players.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
It was a coaching change that calls guys to sail
cattle want to be there anymore.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
So No, I don't think it's a big deal.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Frank Reich continues. He says in his scattering report, they
have a dynamic run game with the quarterback being involved
in that run game. They play pass and get him
on the move. He's a good athlete, You're gonna get
him on the move. There's a lot of action going on.
This is a very well coached team. Giving some credit
to BYU. You can see, Oh, doctor Kirk, shout out
to you and your family. My good luck charm prior

(08:56):
to kick off. Gotta just dab it up with my guy.
Get a hot dog, get a root beer, get some
Royal Lobbie brand. Guys love and appreciate you, bro. Yeah, yeah,
you gotta get it. You gotta get some whites, getting
some white where white brother appreciate you. So this is
what he had to say. Though very well coached teams,
you can see that they are a very good football team.
Their schemes are very sound. Defensively, I feel like I'm

(09:17):
watching an NFL defense with everything they do. They do
a little bit of everything. They are multiple in everywhere
and everything. Their pressure packages are quite sophisticated things you
see at the NFL level. They do a good job
of executing it. Ronnie, that's a lot of high praise
from an NFL guy that's been in the league for

(09:38):
you know, almost thirty years and he's got eighty game
hiting game as a head coach.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
Yeah, I mean, and that's the one thing you're looking
at if you're Stanford, Right, what did they struggle last week?

Speaker 4 (09:47):
Excuse me been the week before. Offense is what they
really struggle.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
Putting a love in third and long situations did not
do what they want to do. They were able to
run the football, but the passing game is not there.
And you know why you're giving praise to what'd be
what you do. Last year they were tied or led
with interceptions in the country up there. They were the
best defense in the Big twelve. He sees that as
j Hill being a next level in a way, and
I don't think this hyperbole. Could be a next level

(10:11):
NFL type coach if you wanted to one day and
sees guys playing at a maximum level.

Speaker 4 (10:17):
When you see Isaiah Glasker, when you.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
See Jack Kelly, what they did you know with the
Week one scooping score by Jack. When you see Keanu Tonavasa,
who's a future projected to be first round pick. When
you have a talent Alfred who played phenomenal last week,
by the way, when you have a Tanner Wall, when
you have a Tommy Prasis, when you have a follow
without South Tawalla, when you have all of those guys,
He sees danger in the BYU secondary and he respects

(10:39):
it and he doesn't want his team to go out
there and make mistakes because bo he did well last year.
They punished you if they had a short field. What
happened quick strike? One play they were in the end
zone and that was where Jake reps laugh right, who
you could argue made a lot of dangerous and sketchy throws.
You put bart Bachmeile, who I think is a better runner,
a better athlete than Jake Woo that he does not
want to get Bau a short field coming off of

(11:01):
a bye, second week for BAU, into the season, on
the road, in a hostile environment, in a game that
matters so.

Speaker 4 (11:07):
Much for recruiting and for the future. You can't do that, Ben.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
How many throws do you think we see from bear
Bachmeyer tonight? Will be a balanced approach, run to pass,
pass to run. Last week eleven attempts, seven completions in
one half of play. Where do you reside there? How
much throw game do you think we see from bear
Bachmeyer tonight under the lights.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
Of level Yeah, I definitely think that's a good point
you bring up. He can't throw the ball eleven times tonight, Ben,
that's just not gonna work. They won't be able to
win the football game if they do that. If they
do that means Stanford's defensive line is really bad. In
Ba's ring, game could be all that. I still think
they have a good running game. I think you see
Bear somewhere between fifteen to twenty.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
Ben.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
I don't want necessarily him to get up to twenty,
but I think fifteen is a good number. I think
he'll see him do that. He's gonna have to air
it out a little bit more. I think they take
a little bit more chances. I think Bear will be
on point tonight. He had a lot of throws that
were underthrown. I think you could see him miss a
little bit longer, maybe tide if anything, but I'm going
fifteen to twenty Ben.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
This Stanford call. This Stanford Cardinal football team has become
accustomed to losing for the last four years and most
recently too. I mean they've lost four out of the
last five games. Their last win was November sixteenth, twenty
twenty four, versus Louisville and they got by by the
skin of their teeth thirty eight to thirty five. Yeah, Okay,

(12:26):
they have lost some close games. They lost to rival
Cow twenty four to twenty one. That was a close one.
They lost to San Jose State thirty four to thirty one,
and then they lost to y twenty three twenty. These
are close games. Yeah, the ball is not bouncing their way. No,
they're not capable of executing. And you know, so you
hope that these lawsuits are teaching them to lose close

(12:49):
games rather than you know, eventually figuring out how to
win these close games.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
Yeah, but I think that it is and I definitely
think will be ben But here's the issue. Though you're
playing you're playing different teams. This bou team is a
different team. They're a team that was tied for a
forward tile last year in the Big Twelve for first place.
They're coming in humbling hunger, getting a proved because they
felt like they left the Big Top title and the
College Football Playoff on the table. They would turn a
lot on defense and got better. They were turned a

(13:15):
lot on offense at and got better. Yes, it's a
young quarterback, but they got the running backs healthy at
least in the number one and number two. It's gonna
be tough for them. I know that they've lost close
and you hope to earn. But with how talented this
team is, it's a tough asst draft too. Bill Conley's
projecting a blowout again. I think first half closer than
we all would think. But I think second half you'll

(13:36):
see and I'll even throw this out there, throw I'll
throw a bone. You could see third quarter, you could
see Oklahoma State. You could see them run the ball
ten straight times to establish something and say, hey, we're
gonna play big boy football. Excuse me behind our NFL guard,
our NFL tackles, and we're gonna run the football down
your dark throat.

Speaker 4 (13:54):
I think you're gonna see that tonight.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
I think Carson Ryant could also have a big night
key catches today. It's gonna be a tough tasks for
the Stanford defense. I think to stop Boyu's offense because
you know what BYU's.

Speaker 4 (14:04):
Defense is going to do behind Jalen Aaron.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
Roderick BYU football, who are they right now? Entering twenty
twenty five, the Cougars rank number nine in total wins
over the past fifty seasons in college football, winning four
to thirty five games. Only Ohio State, Alabama, Oklahoma, Georgia,
Florida State, Michigan, Penn State, and Nebraska have won more

(14:27):
football games than BYU. BYU's number nine nationally and winning
percentage over the last five seasons forty five and eighteen.
Only Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon, Clemson,
and Liberty top to Cougars. Uh that's seventy one percent
seventy one point four percent winning mark. Since twenty twenty,
bou ranks number twenty four in Bowl invitations with forty

(14:49):
four games. The Cougars have also spent two hundre ninety
two weeks in the Associated Press Top twenty five, and
they're on the brink of it once again. They're at
number twenty six. They are in the top twenty five
and the coaches poll getting some respect.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
Can we comment on that, like been with you know,
the scoreboard updates that we've been looking at, right, I
know Zach's gonna do one, and I'll let him finish
to say that, But with the way a couple of
games are a couple of teams that have lost and
are having close games already, I don't think all of
them will fall out of the top twenty five, but
definitely if you would drop, you might see BYU enter
into the top twenty five. With the way some of

(15:20):
these teams did not compete, Like just to make a
big mention, South Florida knocks off number thirteen Florida eighteen
to sixteen, Like that's gonna open the door for BYU.
Iowa State could drop, you know, losing a close ball game.
You know it's a rivalry against Iowa thirteen to sixteen.
So SMU lose the Baylor forty eight to forty, forty
eight to forty five. So you take care of business,

(15:41):
you cover the spread, bend. There's a good chance come Monday,
you could be in the AP top twenty five.

Speaker 4 (15:47):
And you do your.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
Job, no doubt about it, and you expect it.

Speaker 4 (15:51):
Right.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
With a win over Stamford, a convincing one, you expect
to be in the top twenty five. And both the
coaches and the AP pole right, there's no extensive about that.
So BYU is on the right track. BYU is has chemistry, continuity,
and I would say culture that they're leaning into. They

(16:14):
got a great coaching staff, they have a great they
have great depth as far as personnel is concerned, and
they have enough talent to not only win, but they
can win big tonight, have under the lights of level.
But you do need the twelfth man, like you guys
can you guys can make this game an even bigger
win than it would be in a way setting, right,

(16:37):
I look at the last game in which Bay you
played versus Stamford thirty five to twenty six at Stamford, Okay,
at home. It should be twice as many points scored,
not twice as big of a victory, of margin a
victory in my opinion, not twice as many points. Like
you know, I'm not saying the bow he's gonna score
you know, sixty points plus tonight. But what I'm saying

(16:59):
is you can. You're gonna cover. You gotta cover cover.
Like ultimately, I know, a win is a win, is
a win, absolutely too close to it. But if this
is a close game, I do think that the AP voters
and they won't give it a late late night game.
They may just keep by. You're right there because you
didn't do what you were supposed to do. Yep, per
vegas for the metrics, and so a nice convincing win,

(17:22):
a comfortable win would be ideal for BYU tonight.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
Okay, if you win by twenty four, Ben, I think
they'll hit twenty one rout on the market. But you
win by twenty four, you take care of business. You
do exactly what you need to do. You don't need
to do any morning less. Also been just want to
give a quick shout out. Shout out to the players
of Kubrok. I think it's seen the marching band. I
think the players have now arrived. I got the notification
answer to the stadium BWAU football is live. So Ben,
we're getting close to kickoff time less than two hours now,

(17:49):
Bay you Stanford.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
Boom SHOCKA lock up. A couple of things here is
we wrap up this segment. One thing that Stanford has
done a pretty good job of over the years is
recruit LDS athletes BYU bound athletes in my opinion, and
that should hopefully change after this game and into the future.
One of the things that they've also done well is

(18:12):
put place develop players to become NFL players. Okay, over
the last six seasons, their recruiting rankings have been solid
top forty on average, top thirty five, borderline top thirty five.
So yeah, they recruit high level athletes and they develop
him at a high level BYU is matching that though
right now, currently the Cougars have eighteen players on NFL rosters,

(18:36):
including Fred Warner. The best linebacker in the league. Okay,
that's pretty nice. Signed a three year, sixty three million
dollar extension in the offseason, making him the leagu's highest
paid linebacker again. Wide receiver Puka Takua for the Rams
followed up his record setting rookie year with nine hundred
and ninety receiving yards in just eleven games. Due to injury,
he has got one hundred and eighty four balls for

(18:57):
two four seventy six yards in his first two years
in the NFL. What you're seeing right now is BYU's
having success at quarterback, at running back, right at along
the offensive line, at linebacker, defensive line. You're seeing defensive
backs showcase well too, which has been difficult to do
over the over the years, wide receiver and defensive back

(19:18):
has been much more difficult to recruit, develop and place
them in the National Football League. Yeah, so you have
that as another pitch point when you go to Battle
and you're going to get Stanford. You have a great education,
you got a great fan base, you have great networking
opportunities and maybe better long term earning potential at BYU
competitive Stanford, and also you're putting guys in the league

(19:41):
at an equivalent level over the last five, six, seven years,
maybe going back a decade. So you need all those
recruiting pitches, including what happens tonight on the grid iron,
in order to make the pitch and convert these potential
Stafford guys. You have a number of them on the
on the roster right now.

Speaker 4 (19:57):
Fucking Claig.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
What's committed to Stanford. LJ was committed to Stanford, bear
Backmeyer and Tiger Bachmeyer. We're at Stanford. There's a lot
of guys that are potential Stamford guys that work extremely well.
And in fact, if there's a high level three star,
four star, five star Stanford recruit, as soon as they
get an offer, honestly, byr's recruiting staff should be evaluating

(20:18):
that guy right away, not question bring them in making
the pitch.

Speaker 3 (20:22):
Yeah, I agree with you, and I think just look
at the local recruits have been Let's go through guys
that are committed to BYU or other guys in the
state of Utah that have Stanford offers. It's a handful
of right, they're thinking about that, and guys or BYU
is heavily and that makes legacy kids.

Speaker 4 (20:35):
All of that, you can already offer the high level education.
You can't.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
That's a given, right, even though Stanford maybe you know,
because of that, could offer a little bit more.

Speaker 4 (20:42):
But you have you get a degree from BAU. That's
no joke, man, right, I have one. You have one.
People look at that. Wow, you're a BOU grad. How
many times do we get that? That's no joke.

Speaker 3 (20:50):
Now what you need to do is go out there
and smack them today and say, look, we don't just
got the academics.

Speaker 4 (20:55):
You want to go play football. Well, here's here's some tape.
Do you see this? Did you see but the team?

Speaker 3 (21:01):
Did you know September sixth, twenty twenty five against him?
Did you see what a true freshman quarterback get under
this coordinator? Did you see what they did under this
defensive coordinator? To see these NFL guys Isaiah Glaska, Jack Kelly,
all of that, Ben, as you mentioned, is a pivotal
thing and is a recruiting point that seals the deal
for recruits. Ben, You've gotten into Texas, haven't you? With
Jannaro Goildford, you can get you can shut the door

(21:23):
on Stanford officially with the win tonight and time up
the series two two let's.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
Take a brief time out. Come on bye to our tailgate.
Come hang out with us, watch some of the college
football games behind us on our flat screens. Ultimate tailgateer.
Come and get a hot dog, get fed before you
enter into the stadium. We got root beer that we're
dolling out. We also are right here next to swig.
So if you need a maybe an elevated drinking experience
for your your caffeine, get you ready for this, this
college football game under the lights of level. To become

(21:50):
the twelfth man, you need to be juiced. You need
to be amped. You need to be willing and ready
to rise and shout as the Cougars are coming out
and and disrupt the communication between gold Branson and that
that talented offensive line that is blocking for Micah Ford,
one of the one of the better running backs I
think on the West Coast, and he created that I
think in the in the Hawaii game, and he's gonna
be looking very good tonight.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
One more point, as Blande Anderson and Banner Walls walking back,
Blaine would agree it does he remembers again, do we
recall the game where there are three faalse starts, so
you put a certain quarterback who is for the Washington
Commanders now in a fourth and twenty two. I remember this,
we were there. They could not have. They could they
could not have. Arizona State could not the center. You've
never seen a center of college football say look at

(22:33):
his quarterback, say what's the snap count?

Speaker 2 (22:35):
What is it?

Speaker 3 (22:35):
They couldn't go silent, and they couldn't go anything because
it was so loud from the twelfth man.

Speaker 4 (22:39):
I think you bring up a great point.

Speaker 3 (22:40):
If the twelfth man can disrupt the communication between the
offensive line and the running back, and if you can
take out that chemistry Bill Williams defense, and hey, it's
gonna be a good night in LS for sure.

Speaker 2 (22:51):
Eight to fifteen kickoff at Lavelle Edward States should be
about seventy seventy three degrees at kickoff. If you're gonna
be watching from home, Mark Owns, Roddy Jones, and Quinkessenich,
you're gonna be on the call for ESPN. It's gonna
be broadcasting on the Mothership.

Speaker 4 (23:06):
Yes, even though you got Mark Jones, Ben you love and.

Speaker 2 (23:09):
Hate the late kickoffs for a number of reasons, right,
but you got all your chores done on Saturday you
went to Costco, you mowed your lawn, you went to
your kids foot all that stuff, and now you get
to come and be a part of the twelfth Man,
right and and and and rise and shop. But then
also if you're if you're not able to make it,
you can watch a great game on the Mothership with

(23:31):
a great crew calling the game.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
The question is will the Mothership pick up again? Just
got a notification Jamal Williams back in the building week two.
Swag Daddy, swag Daddy, Kaza Kase the anime King, anime
god back in l e yes tonight.

Speaker 4 (23:46):
Ben just got a notification that he's back for week two.

Speaker 2 (23:48):

he's one of those guys too that stayed the course.
Left for a year. You know, could have just said
I'm gonna go elsewhere. It could have transferred. He trained,

(24:09):
bought into the culture, Yeah, bought into BYU. His mom advised, Hey,
you need to go back to b Yu trained with uh,
you know, with Luke Neil, his coach, his mentor, and
then came back to Brigham balled out. So shout out
to Jay Swagg Jamal Williams. We'll go to break guys.
Don't go anywhere.

as well as a hot dog as you head on
down to Lavelle Edwards Stadium. Eight fifteen kickoffs. We're a
little less than two hours away before we get to
see this BYU football team face its first true challenge

(26:01):
of the season. Yes, and as I mentioned, Stanford is
a has good football players and they are in a
rebuild mode. They're trying to find their identity, but they
do have good play and Frank Rikers is a very
experienced football coach and they're coming off of bye week.
They got a good running game, they have a good
front seven. I think on the defensive side of the ball,

(26:24):
they do pose some challenges that you need to address.
Stay the course, stay cohesive, and let's see if we
can establish our run game, get into the playoff game
offensively so we can take some shots downfield and just
execute from the thirty five going in. I would love
to see Cody Hagan once again featured offensively. I think
he needs to be featured offensively. He's too dynamic, too

(26:46):
explosive not to. And then on the defensive end, stop
the run. Stop micah Ford. Put Gill Branson into a
one dimensional space and watch him make mistakes. I could
see that happening as well. But should be about seventy
three degrees at kickoffs. So a beautiful fall evening to
watch BYU football under the lights of level. Be the

(27:08):
twelfth man, rise and shout and make sure you're making noise,
the rockous noise like the roar of the Cougars does
that student section, but be a part of the royal
army guys, and make sure you're rising and shouting as well, Ronnie,
what do you got for me?

Speaker 3 (27:20):
I was worried a little bit about the weather. You know,
there was thirty chance we had a slight reason.

Speaker 4 (27:27):
Thirty minutes.

Speaker 3 (27:28):
But now looking at the clear skys, the sun's out,
the clouds are shifted over. You might have a good
night at football of maybe a few clouds, but I
don't think there would be any rain now.

Speaker 6 (27:35):
Man.

Speaker 4 (27:35):
That's a good sign. Whether there's always a concern.

Speaker 3 (27:39):
When you're playing at night or any day, but it
doesn't look like that's going to be a factor to night.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
Stanford has to play at elevation for the first time
in a long time, and that could be something to
watch as they fatigue in the third and fourth quarter.
I could see bo you pull it away in strong,
convincing fashion in the third and fourth quarter as this
Stanford Cardinal team fatigues out a little bit. BYU's jerseys,
they're gonna be wearing the white Domes Royal jerseys and

(28:06):
then white pants with the royal accents obviously, so they're
gonna be looking fresh. And then Stafford's gonna be trying
out all whites.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
Can I find about this for a second, this is
kind of crazy.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
How do you have the all white but to match
the opponent, but the and then you're wearing different I
don't know what occurred with that, Ben, but uh yeah,
I gotta do better with that.

Speaker 2 (28:25):
In my opinion, Kline and his tenth year now seventy
three and forty three all time career record as the
head coach of BYUB ways a twenty and a half
point favorite. Will they cover? I'm picking cover for this
Cougar football team over unders at forty four and a half,
so you could see you can see an under where
BYU also covers. It could totally happen, and you know,

(28:46):
maybe somewhere around like thirty five to ten, somewhere around
there a little less than that thirty three, thirty four
to ten. You know, they may get two scores, maybe
two touchdowns from the Stanford Cardinal, but I feel like
Bays get a cover. Right now, Let's get a brief
college football update some of the scores that are happening
across the country with Zach Robinson. Zach, what do you

(29:07):
got for us?

Speaker 4 (29:08):
All right?

Speaker 5 (29:08):
So I got upside alert for you guys. Ron mentioned
this last segment, but Florida State has up. Sorry, excuse me.
South Florida has upset Number thirteen Florida kicking a game
winning field goal. Cal Poly's down to Utah forty nine
to six. Miami up on Bethune Cookman twenty eight to three.
South Carolina and South Carolina State are in a delay

(29:29):
right now. Number three LSU up on louis In at
Tech seven to zero. Mississippi State up ten to nothing
on number twelve, Arizona State, Number eighteen, Oklahoma up on
number fifteen Michigan seven to zero, and number twenty one
Alabama up twenty one to nothing on UL Monroe. And
then in the Big twelve, Houston is up seven to

(29:49):
three on Rice at the half and Kansas State is
up thirteen to seven on Army at the half.

Speaker 2 (29:55):
Back to you, Ben, Yeah, So a number of games
we gotta be looking at right now, Like Ash needs
to step up, get revenge from last I'm telling you, bro,
like like these games versus sec acc opponent. Shout out
to the fans, showing up, showing out. I got my
fam over here looking good. They come on up, your guys,
hang out with us for a little bit. Uh, guys,

(30:17):
come on by, get a hot dog, get some root beer,
come hang out over at the Royal Army brand tickets
and b a swacker to buy fans for fans, always
staying loyal to the Royal repping the why the right
way purchase your bid license barrel Today, look my Storelin's
heading into this BYU Stanford game. And in the story
I would ultimately tell to this Cougar football team that
doesn't understand and under know the history between b YU

(30:38):
and Stamford. Stafford has been a part of the Pack
a Pac ten PAC twelve for a very long time.
This is an institution of higher learning, learning at the MAX.
This is a research institution that receives subsidies UH as
an R one research institution. They are highly academic focused
and UH and I would say, uh, if you're not
a part of that, that that that I could demic

(31:01):
world is like that public academic world. You know, they
kind of stiff arm me a little bit. They have
a little bit of pompish nature to them. The idea
that BYU didn't merit an invite years ago to the
Pack a Pac twelve Pack Back ten is an absurdity.

(31:25):
Of course, they deserved it. On the field of course
they had earned it, but institutions such as Stanford Call
and others within that pack organization said, nah, BYU, we
don't want them, we don't need them, So just that
as a foundation. Furthermore, the religious bigotry goes further as
the Stafford Cardinal Band has multiple times now in two

(31:48):
thousand and four and in twenty twenty two and by
you visited most recently, has employed a theatrical performance with
their band to attack religious beliefs of the Church of
j describe the Latter day Saints. Okay, so you have that. Furthermore,
time and time again, over the last two decades plus,

(32:12):
the Stanford Cardinal coaching staff Harbaugh, Shaw, Lance Anderson who's
now at Utah Tech, have targeted LDS recruits BYU prospects,
and they've won against them. They have recruited at a
high level. They have received commitments. Let me go down
the list. Dallas Lloyd at a Pleasant Grove, Brandon Ika

(32:32):
Plan Pleasant Grove. Simmy Fojoco was a baller wide receiver.
Could have used him during the independent era. Dalton Scholes,
Bingham Sionimuilan Tanner, McKee, Lane Veach, Levanni de Moody who's
at Utah now Loa Kalfusi, Gabe Reid at a temp you.
Taysom Hill was once a recruited commit to Stamford. Sean
Barton Grey Clark, Mark Harris, John Madson, Scottie Edwards is

(32:55):
currently at the Stanford Cardinal. Okay, he's gonna be starting
at safety. You go down that list, You're like, man,
they have done really well and that's just a short
list of the players that they've taken from BYU. You
need to get a win. You need a convincing win
tonight under the lights of lavel to usher in. I
believe the irrelevant era of Stanford football four consecutive seasons,

(33:21):
three and nine records, four consecutive Troy Taylor right couldn't
bring him about. Frank Reich is an interim head coach.
They are in the ACC for the love of Pete.
Speaking of irrelevancy, ACC may not even exist in the
next five years, in the next round of realignment. So

(33:42):
now's the time to step on the throat. Now's the
time to push Stamford off the cliff into irrelevancy in
college football. You don't want to miss on these recruits
that you have missed on, missed out on over the
last decade plus. You got to bring them under the fold,
bring them into Lavelle, bring them into BYU. Coloni Shustaki

(34:04):
stated in his press conference earlier this week as he
addressed the meeting, He's like, I know that team. We
recruited a bunch of those guys. Obviously missed out on
those guys during independence. Now it's different. You hope with
power for affiliation, big twelve affiliation, more money, more resources,
more nil are really I say great to elite academic institution,

(34:25):
the network, the B to B corporate sponsorship element, an
and mentorship element within the student athlete component here to
develop them, to find them jobs on the back end
long term earning potential. And then the football component, the
basketball component, et cetera, needs to be a declarative exclamation
point going forward. You gotta win. You gotta win big

(34:46):
tonight in order to be able to just slide across.
Just pull up the twenty twenty two, twenty twenty five
games of BYU versus Stanford to show those recruits. Hey,
do you want to go to Stanford where no one
should to the games? Yeah, you get a nice little
you get a nice education, but they don't really care
about you. If we care about you as a holistic human,
you can get the spiritual right, you can get the football,

(35:08):
the temporal, and you get the academic side of things
as well. And by the way, Stanford took advantage of
BYU add its weakest point in two thousand and three
two thousand and four by you lost two consecutive games
to the Stanford Cardinal in the Gary Croaton era when
they when by was trying to rebuild, when they were
trying to grasp ahold of something that was difficult to
grasp and they were You're reeling a bit. Stanford's really

(35:31):
right now. They have little to no identity, and now's
the time to take advantage of the situation and capitalize
on it.

Speaker 4 (35:39):
Ronnie, Yeah, definitely as a time now.

Speaker 3 (35:41):
I don't want to take too long because we have
to welcome in a special guest here in the next segment,
but yeah, they're not going to be at a take
advantage of its being. In my opinion, going forward, after tonight,
BYU covers they get the dub the over under is
going above as well and beyond, and Bau ties the
series up to two tonight and Stamfords no longer will

(36:01):
get those recruitect They might not even have a football
program in the next five years. Have been in how
Paddy goes and how bad Bay you beats him.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
Tonight, Let's take a brief time out. Welcome back. We're
gonna welcome in Hank Bachmeyer, the big brother of Bear
and Tiger. Get his thoughts on this game, Get his
thoughts on his brother, his family, and talk to BYU football.
With a quarterback that threw for over eleven thousand yards
at the collegiate level. Okay, very few have done that historically.
He's done it. He's seen big time games like this.

(36:29):
He's seen and experience what it takes to win under
high pressure situations. We'll lean in on Hank Bachmeyer coming
up next. Don't miss it. You're listening to Cougar Sports
on one oh three nine ninety eight point three ESP.

Speaker 1 (36:47):
Ben Krittle's first scholarship was from the hands of Kalanie Sentaki.
Kalani immediately regretted that decision, set Crittle on the bench
and juco ball and told Gary Crowton to recruit to
Williams St. Probo instead. Walt didn't show Ben crittle. However,
well you know the story. Now he's rocking the show

(37:09):
known as Cougar Sports here on.

Speaker 4 (37:11):
One O, three, nine and ninety eight three ESPN The Fan.

Speaker 2 (37:23):

the swim. Come on by, get some delicious drinks, get
some capped in your body so you can rise and shout.
Be a part of the Royal Army and that twelve man.
Make sure you're uh, you're you're boisterous. If this BYU
football game and disrupt the communication between Go Branton that

(37:46):
offensive line and maybe cause a few false starts, it
would be awesome. Royal Army brand is down here, guys.
Get your BYU licensed apparel. The fine Twin Lennon's at
Brigham All white. It's all white all night, guys. You
gotta wear the it's a white out tonight, b Y.
He's gonna be wearing the white lids with the Royal
Right Royal jerseys and then white pants as well as

(38:08):
the Royal accents and Stafford's gonna be in the all
Whites with the Stanford Cardinal red. I guess from aroon
you call it as their accents, but can't wait for
this game. B why he's a heavy favorite, as they
should be. But there's some question marks around BYU right now.
Sure like we have a true freshman quarterback. We're doing
something that we've never done before is tried out a

(38:29):
true freshman quarterback Game one. It was awesome though seven
of eleven he he accounted for Bear black Mark Haunt
for five touchdowns in his debut. Starting off right, he
was efficient, he was effective, made good decisions for Aaron Rodger,
and we got to see him scooted a little bit
as well, very dynamic with the football in his hand,
and can't wait to see what he can do versus

(38:49):
the Stanford Cardinal, his former team. There's a lot of
cool storylines heading up into this game, as Tiger Blockmeyer
and Bear Bachmeyer facing their former team and teammates tonight
under the lights of lovel But guys, stop on by,
get a hot dog, gets some root beer, Come and
hang out with us as we prep you get you
ready for this BYU Stanford matchup to talk about it. Though,

(39:10):
I want to welcome into a college football expert, a quarterback.
That's man. I want to say. He played in fifty
games in college football, a lot of games, bro that
he started through for over eleven thousand yards as a
quarterback at the collegiate level Boise State and most recently
Waked Fours. He's the big brother of Bear Bachmeyer and

(39:32):
Tiger Bachmeyer. He joined our show a couple of weeks ago.
Let's welcome in Hank Bachmeier Show. Henk, How are you
buddy doing all right? How are you doing? Awesome?

Speaker 1 (39:40):
Man?

Speaker 2 (39:40):
Pretty cool spectacle tonight. I know you've been here a
few times, not only as a player, but now as
a spectator. What do you make of the pregame and
game time experience under the lights of level It's unbelievable.

Speaker 6 (39:53):
Came as a spectator last week to the Portland State
game and just like I said, like I was telling
you off air, just with it being the score.

Speaker 4 (39:59):
What it was so late in the game and just
everybody's staying.

Speaker 6 (40:02):
It was so awesome to see and just what incredible
fan fan base you guys have here. It's it's really
fun to be a part of.

Speaker 2 (40:07):
It's a special place right, you get, you get a
very invested fan base, right Uh, and they come and support.

Speaker 6 (40:16):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (40:16):
They can also be critical of quarterback play. You know
they're gonna they're gonna nipick. So whenever you get like, uh,
the last thing you want is like apathy, right Uh
from a fan base. But they can also be pretty critical.
You hopped onto our show a couple of weeks agother like, hey,
look we've got a two freshman quarterback. There's extremely talent.
You know, your your brother's skill set better than anybody.
You know, He'll probably make some mistakes along the way,
but the talent is undeniable. And he comes from a

(40:40):
football family. How does that prepare him to compete versus
an acc FO Stamford Cardinal who has got tremendous talent.
They got good talent and good coaching staff.

Speaker 6 (40:50):
Yeah, you know, I'm really excited to see what he
builds on uh this week versus how he played last week.

Speaker 4 (40:55):
You know, me being his big brother.

Speaker 2 (40:57):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (40:58):
And and I think any anybody saw, you know, I
think that first drive, I like, I'm his big brother.
I'm gonna be a little critical, uh, at least on air.
I've you know, said this to him. I want to
be confident. I think he should have been eleven for
eleven like watching it just just he like. I think
he made great decisions. I think those first few throws,
especially getting out there, I was like, well, were you nervous, Like, yeah,
I was nervous, but uh yeah, I think, uh, I

(41:19):
think the decisions were great. I think, you know, I
think he could uh you know, ball placement on a
couple of those throws could have been a little bit better.
But I think he operated really well. I think he
made great decisions and and uh, I think that's that's
a positive sign, is to be the ability to be
able to make those just great decisions and then the
outcomes will kind of take care of themselves eventually, and
so uh to see him settle in and and uh
just get that confidence, uh in that first game, it's

(41:41):
it's good.

Speaker 4 (41:41):
It's great.

Speaker 6 (41:42):
And I'm been really excited to see him build upon
uh that game into the into the Stanford game, because
even for myself, I'm like, Okay, I'm I just with
the sample size was so small, I just want to
see him against an acc opponent. And I think, like
you said, lilluding to dear question, I think he's ready
to go. And I think last game was a great
confidence builder for him and just he he knows like

(42:03):
he knows he can make those throws. And and he
got better as the game went on and he got
more confident. They got him in the run game, moving
with his legs. I think that that's great too. So
I'm really excited to to see him, uh in this
next game.

Speaker 2 (42:15):
Here, let's discuss the balance between what's architected and then
what's ultimately you know, ultimately what's employed. Uh, Eddie quarterback
has to go through progressions, yes, but it's always nice
with a young quarterback to have what you're planning on
in that in that particular play, what you're playing on
in practice ultimately come open in the game. And I

(42:36):
think in the Portland State game, what was planned, what
was prepared for it was it was typically there and
he made good decisions. He made the right decisions within
the architecture. I I tend to lean on as as
a former athlete myself, I really lean on Aaron Rodgers
got to put Bear in a good position to make plays,

(42:57):
and I felt he did that Game one. It's a
little bit tougher. You've worked with a lot of ocs.
How can a Rod maybe put him in a good
position to make plays and make good decisions tonight versus Stanford.

Speaker 6 (43:10):
Yeah, you know, I'm not the offensive cording or anything
like that, but I think coach Khalani and like you said,
a Rod, they got a good plan for him.

Speaker 4 (43:16):
They got him in the run game a little bit.

Speaker 2 (43:17):
I don't know anything.

Speaker 6 (43:18):
About this particular game plan, but like, like you know,
Portland State and Stanford are different opponents. Really curious to
see how he handles a pass rush and like you said,
maybe when things don't necessarily go right according to the script.
So just the ability to be composed and progress and
have a plan and then have a plan when that
plan doesn't work out right.

Speaker 4 (43:38):
So I'm really curious see how he's gonna handle all that.

Speaker 6 (43:41):
Just being at his second college game and and like
I said, not really a great sample size, So just
really excited for him. And I think this is just
another great game for him just to continue to grow
and just discover, you know, what he's capable of in
the college level.

Speaker 4 (43:55):
So really excited for him.

Speaker 6 (43:56):
I think, Yeah, I think a Rod, coaches Tataki, they
got a great plan for him him.

Speaker 3 (44:00):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (44:01):
I think he last week coached the taking was saying,
you know.

Speaker 6 (44:03):
Getting him in the run game a little bit kind
of getting hit. I always liked that personal howely Uh
kind of got you locked into the game. I'm sure
they'll have that in the plan. I played Stanford last year,
I think uh, I think they played a lot of
like quarters type stuff. So I'm sure uh they got
a good pass plan too for him and and the
run game at the run game and the defense do
what they did last game. That helps out tremendously as

(44:24):
a quarterback always.

Speaker 2 (44:25):
So, so you see quarters a lot with with with Stanford,
you'll see maybe some cover threes, cover six right like
I mean, but you saw a lot of quarters last
year there so with their personnel yep. So what are
some of the the the things that you can expose
in quarters through the pass game and then uh and
then also getting after it in when you're facing more
zone based game in the run game as well with

(44:46):
their I think they run a lot of thirty front
with their guys.

Speaker 6 (44:49):
Okay, yeah, I from what I remember too, I think
the safety has come down in the run fit the
RPO game.

Speaker 3 (44:55):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (44:55):
But obviously I think we're gonna we're gonna run the ball, uh,
and then the play pass with it to play pass
get him on the move too.

Speaker 4 (45:01):
I think that that's all good stuff.

Speaker 6 (45:04):
Like I said, I don't know the game plan or anything,
but just watching BYU always it's it's a.

Speaker 2 (45:08):
Traditionally, both personnel sets within Stanford and by You are
very similar, very similar. There are some nuances, right you've
got a pukaakup or something like that in the year,
or you have a particular quarterback, right, but like you
look at Stanford and BYU, their personnel year in and
year out is similar in their strengths and weaknesses, and

(45:29):
there they kind of mirror each other too.

Speaker 6 (45:31):
Yeah, I think I think the reason why my brothers
came here was it was very similar in the values,
the culture, the scheme, just the type of people at
that institution and here were very similar. So I think
when they transferred they came here, it aligned a lot
with their values. And like you said, I think Stanford
also has a lot of those capabilites. They're obviously going
through some stuff, a lot of changes, but yeah, here,

(45:51):
I think it's a very NFL style scheme that aroon
runs be guess have done a tremendous job of just
developing NFL caliber athletes and so yeah, for my brothers,
and that was great fit.

Speaker 4 (46:00):
And as far as the scheme, yeah, it's an NFL scheme.
You're gonna run the ball.

Speaker 6 (46:03):
You got the wide es on the motions, and then
you're gonna marry that run game with the play pass
and the boot game.

Speaker 4 (46:09):
Take some vertical shots off of that.

Speaker 6 (46:10):
So if you can stay ahead of the sticks in
that regard, I think with LJ that guy's study, that
was my first time ever watching great watch. Yep, unbelievable, unbelievable.
Tight end looked really good. You know, Chase Roberts, all
those guys looked great. Cody Hagan, that guy looks like
a freaking stud.

Speaker 4 (46:24):
Get that guy the ball. Get him, Yeah, one hundred percent,
get that guy the ball star.

Speaker 6 (46:28):
But yeah, really fun, really exciting, It was really creative.
I think he just did a great job being so
multiple and it was really fun to watch.

Speaker 2 (46:35):
It was funny when they went you know what play
I'm talking about when they they you know, the ball
got away away from Bear a little bit on a
throw as a slant to Cody. I thought for certain
they were actually gonna do a double move on that
play slug O. They went with just the slant off
of a kind of a zone radar po type of look,
and I was like, man, with that much space with

(46:55):
a ten four to ten five meter guy, I wouldn't
be surprised to see had a double move tonight from
Cody Hagen and Bear putting it on him in the
back of the end zone. And and I'm glad you
brought up Cody because I think he can be He's
just a different player than that of Chase or Jojo
or Parker even he's He's a player that makes you

(47:15):
turn your hips as a defensive back really quick, and
he can break you off real quick on any comebacks,
et cetera. But what was your favorite play from Bear
last week where you said, a dang, that's my brother man.
That's a great college football play. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (47:29):
I think that one where it was a boot in
the red zone and the chimney the guy and then
he jumped in and got in there.

Speaker 4 (47:36):
I think it was just a great football play. It's
just you're you're just playing ball, kind of backyard ball
right there.

Speaker 6 (47:40):
But at the same time, he went through his progressions,
didn't have anything, and then was quick, decisive, decided to run.

Speaker 4 (47:45):
And made a guy miss, made a play and got
in the end zone. And I think that kind of just.

Speaker 6 (47:49):
Sums up his game as he was still cerebral, went
through his progressions, but when it wasn't there, he was
able to, you know, just tuck the ball and get.

Speaker 4 (47:56):
In and make it happen.

Speaker 6 (47:57):
So really excited to see him build upon all that.

Speaker 2 (48:00):
Soff Hang Bachmeyer, the big brother of Bear Bachmeyer Tiger Bachmeyer.
Here on ESPN The Fan. We're at our ultimate tailgate
stop by get swagged out with some Royal Army branded

get your white out gear. Come get a hot dog
from our band Erwealth crew. We're feeding you hot dogs,
getting you some root beer. To pick up a drink
as well from Swig. Get a little caffeinated so you

(48:22):
can be juiced under the lights of level. Be a
part of the twelfth Man and rise and shout. Be disruptively.
Guys like you, I mean you played at Boise State.
That crowd's pretty raucoush at home? How impactful does a
home crowd noise? Component impact the win and lost column. Hey, yeah,

(48:42):
that's great.

Speaker 6 (48:43):
I mean I think just if you can create false starts,
get guys behind the sticks, that's that's an influence from
the fan base. If they can be loud and the
crowd is really into it and you're lacking the ability
to communicate as an offense, that's huge. So just having
this is such an manage at level. And so I
think that that's gonna be big for them and Stanford two.

(49:04):
Like it's different, Like we played there. I played there
last year and that was hard to was playing you know,
I have too many guys there.

Speaker 4 (49:10):
That was tough.

Speaker 6 (49:10):
But playing in front of a packed house is always
hard with communication and stuff, and and it's really hard
to just make sure everybody's on the same page because
you'll have those in full starts.

Speaker 4 (49:17):
So that's a big component.

Speaker 2 (49:19):
Hank, you had a great career. Obviously, we chatted a
couple of weeks ago. You stated, Hey, you're still in
the market. Play some football, Yeah, you know, and it's
so productive. Uh And and you look at your tape,
you know, And I haven't watched the entire mixtape, but
I've watched enough of your of your of your of
your highlights. I mean, look like you're still in the

(49:42):
market to to to to make some pay, whether it's
the NFL you know, or other leagues. Right, So where's
your mindset right now in that regard? How are you
approaching that to stay in shape, stay dialed when that call.

Speaker 4 (49:56):
Comes, Yes, sir, Yeah, I know.

Speaker 6 (49:57):
I'm ready to go if if there's an opportunity, like,
I'm willing to pursue it.

Speaker 4 (50:02):
I still want to play. It's such a fun game,
especially coming out here last week. You know, it makes
you miss it and just uh not being in a
in a UFO.

Speaker 6 (50:09):
I played for six years in college football, so not
being able to do it is definitely a bummer. And
I still want to pursue it and in any capacity
that I can plan. So uh yeah, I'm just working out,
stand in shape, ready to go for whatever league.

Speaker 4 (50:22):
Is available for me.

Speaker 2 (50:23):
Vicarious nature though, that you experienced through your brothers, is
that is that kind of like tangible like validity though
even though you're not playing it and you miss it
right you're not playing it right now, but like do
you get to kind of experience college football through that
through your brothers right now?

Speaker 4 (50:38):
You know it's funny last game. I was actually in
the nosebleeds last game, so it was it was tough
for a struggle for us to get some tickets. So
I was up up in the top and I actually
liked just kind of being low.

Speaker 6 (50:46):
Key sitting up there by myself. But I got more
nervous for Bear, for my brothers than actually playing. I
was like, oh my god, like, just do all right,
Like he looks nervous or I hope he does all right. Yeah,
I was super nervous. I was more nervous than when
I play. So uh, it definitely feels like, uh, you're
playing in a way because you just want them to

(51:06):
do so well and succeed.

Speaker 4 (51:09):
Uh, but you know it doesn't always go like that.
They're gonna have their adversities.

Speaker 6 (51:11):
They're gonna have their failures and and they're bumps in
the road and you just gotta be that big brother.

Speaker 2 (51:15):
For them and be their for them. So UH, really
love them.

Speaker 6 (51:18):
It's a great honor to be their big brother, and
and really excited to be able to watch them again.

Speaker 4 (51:21):
I'm sure I'll get nervous again here. Uh in a
little bit.

Speaker 2 (51:24):
Have they experienced do you think like I look at you.
I looked at your you know, how you played your
personality getting to know you here, Like, you know, you
guys are pretty even keeled, pretty stoic. Obviously, I'm sure
you guys get emotional too during competition. That's just how
it goes. But do you feel like both Fair and
Tiger have experienced enough kind of adversity through football and

(51:45):
in life to stay even keel when it does get
a little bit turbulent, right when the when the the
the the waves kind of come tumbling down, and stay
the course, stay focused and do the work, you know
what I mean, Like you seek you competed against them.
The emotions, right, they go high low, and if you
can stay on the course and you build the trust

(52:06):
with your coordinators and coaches that continue to trot you
out and you can make plays.

Speaker 6 (52:11):
Yeah, you know, I think you said just just in
life and then having the foundation like in their faith
and and like we didn't come from much growing up,
so like just you know, my dad had rachel when
I was a freshman in college, so like there were
things that were really scary for us. My sister had
an autommun disease. She stayed, we stayed around MC dollhouse
for five months while we were growing up. There's a

(52:31):
lot of things that I think led them to where
they are today, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. So yeah, I think
there's a lot of things in our life that made
them into the men that they are today.

Speaker 4 (52:45):
And so I think for them.

Speaker 6 (52:48):
And I'm curious to see, but I think nothing's too
big for them. But they got to go out there
and experience it for themselves and go figure it out.
And it's their journey.

Speaker 4 (52:57):
That's the way I kind of look at it in
my life.

Speaker 6 (52:58):
I think that they're prepared enough to do it, but
eventually it's like the birdie in the nest, you.

Speaker 2 (53:02):
Gotta go let them fly, let them fly, right, And
and I want to humanize these guys and humanize the
Bachmeyer family a little bit here, because when adversity strikes
and the passionate fan base begins to comments and say, oh,
you know X, Y and Z, right, you want to
try to humanize, want to balance it out, like uh,
and and I know that that that you understand that

(53:25):
you know there's a human element to all of this. Uh.
We want to win. It's not the end all be
all at the end of the day. There's still fantastic humans,
fantastic people coming from a fantastic family. What's something about
the Bachmeyer family that the cougarnation needs to know a
little bit. Uh, you've mentioned a few things that I
think are important about where you guys come from and
your experience as a family. We chatted with Bear, we

(53:45):
chatted with Tiger a little bit. But what's some things
that that that the fan base needs to know about
these young men that are balling out at Brigham.

Speaker 6 (53:51):
Yeah, they're just great young individuals and and they mean
so much to me because they're so kind, they're so humble,
and they're just really great young men.

Speaker 4 (53:59):
Like get to know them. There are just great young men.
What you see is what you get. Uh, They're very
just humble people, just try to honor our.

Speaker 6 (54:07):
Family and they love We love just playing guitar and
sitting around on a boat or campfire and and just
uh singing songs together, playing board games, charades, whatever it
may be.

Speaker 4 (54:17):
Like, we love doing that stuff.

Speaker 6 (54:18):
We love just having an adventure, Like every day with
the back Myers is an adventure. You can ask anybody
that's here at the game or anybody that knows us
who's just a you know, quirky, goofy, chaotic, adventurous family.

Speaker 4 (54:28):
So uh, we love to have fun and it might
be an adventure, it's gonna be a memory, but you
know it's always a blast.

Speaker 2 (54:34):
The etymology of bach Meyer. It's German, right, isn't there? Yeah?
And then but also you guys have uh, you guys
have a dynamic.

Speaker 1 (54:43):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (54:44):
I guess lineage as well.

Speaker 4 (54:45):
Mom is from where Thailand. She's from Thailand. She's Asian.
You know, there's some Asian Uh, I don't know what.

Speaker 6 (54:53):
It's not stereotyped, but there's there's some Asian discipline within
the household.

Speaker 3 (54:58):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (54:58):
You know, so grew we grew up just eating, you.

Speaker 6 (55:01):
Know, bags and bags of rice with the chicken. I
used to hate rice because we alway used to eat
every night, But I love it now and just yeah,
all that stuff's just was it was it.

Speaker 2 (55:09):
A wooden spoon of corporal punishment or was it more
of a branch?

Speaker 4 (55:14):
It was wooden spoon.

Speaker 2 (55:15):
Wooden spoon, that's what I thought. Yeah, wood spoon.

Speaker 4 (55:17):
If she runs the kitchen, you go hide. And then
eventually we got the back. Yeah, I kind of forever
she could kind of whatever, get it.

Speaker 6 (55:24):
Yeah, yeah, and uh eventually we got big enough to wear.
You know, my mom's a good block splender woman. No,
you kind of just pretend, ah, you know, and it
hurt worse than what it actually was, you know, but uh, yeah,
we you know, she didn't do that too much, but
if she would threaten it a lot more than she
actually did it, so it worked out.

Speaker 4 (55:40):
So I think she's got great kids.

Speaker 2 (55:41):
So yeah, you guys did a great job. Mom, Mom,
and dad's name Michael in April Blchmner, Michael in April Bachmer.
They've done some great work with you guys, obviously, Hey,
Hake Bachmeyer by my side, getting to know him, getting
to know the Bachmeyer family. What you know? What do
you make of the supporting cast right now? From what

(56:02):
you saw? I don't know if you went back and
watched v L twenty two. I'm sure you watched maybe
the TV copy, But what did you What did you
notice about the supporting cast offensively, defensively, special teams wise
that you like?

Speaker 6 (56:14):
Yeah, to be honest, I had I just watched it live,
so I can't say anything, but I think that the
run games unbelievable, really curious. See how the on line's
gonna do against a power for opponent. Yeah, and then
the defense was great. Special teams is great. So just
really excited to see them and against a you know,
a little bit better of opponent.

Speaker 2 (56:33):
Yeah all right, Hank, Well you can stick around. We're
gonna take a brief time out and we'll come back
and talk a little bit more. BYU Stanford. Hank Bachmeyer,
the big brother of Bear and Tiger. Were gonna see
a punt return from Tiger again this week?

Speaker 4 (56:47):
I hope.

Speaker 3 (56:47):
So.

Speaker 6 (56:47):
I actually saw my buddy Coach at Liberty in a
high school so wins the quarter of cannon game.

Speaker 4 (56:52):
Last night. I saw coach Pop there at Coach Hill,
So I don't know. Hopefully we see it all right.

Speaker 2 (56:56):
All right, I can't wait to see it. Guys. Come
on by our ultimate tailgate, Royal Army brand is here
next to the swig. We're feeding you hot dogs and
root beer, getting your prep. Getting you ready for this
BYU Stanford. Matchup eight to fifteen kickoff on ESPN. If
you're not here, that's okay. We appreciate your listening and

(57:16):
appreciate you tuning in obviously, but there's gonna be a
great call on the mothership, right, That's the other thing
you were part of Boise State, and Boise State was
a media darling from two thousand to present on playing
those Thursday and Friday night games. I imagine that was
one of the reasons why you went to Boise. The
quarterback tradition, right, that being on ESPN late night kickoffs

(57:37):
and things that nature and BYU kind of mirrors that
a little bit in the eighties, nineties, early two thousands
before Boise took a little bit of that, that glamour
of these these ESPN kickoff games. But there's some commonalities
between those two programs. I want to talk about it.
Talk about that on the flip side. Coming up next, guys,

(57:58):
don't miss it. We'll continue to break on the Stanford
game as well here on your Utah ESPN Radio Network
one oh three nine, nineteen point three esp
