about healthcare topics of concern to everyone, from health and safety tips to recall
(00:21):
notices in medical news. Here's yourhost, doctor Barry Prestosky. Hello,
and welcome to Courageous Doctors, thenews show for you and your doctor.
It's always good to have you back. It's a monthly news show, or
tries to be monthly. As always, we cover COVID updates, other government
(00:48):
regulation, general news, and healthand safety tips. So let's begin on
the COVID front. Looking at theStar Ledgers monks that the White House has
spent five billion dollars to invest innew vaccines for the COVID that hopefully had
longer immunity, and that includes nasalvaccines and also for new mono. Colonel
(01:14):
anybody's on more of a grim side. The Star Alleger reminds us that one
point one million have died over threeyears. That'll go down in the history
books is one of the horrible partsof our history, and we're still not
out of it. Last year, two hundred and fifty thousand died. This
year already thirty five thousand have died. And I think I saw somewhere in
(01:38):
the news last night that we're gettingtwo hundred and fifty deaths still a day.
And I know we're still getting somebeats here in Jersey every day too.
So and now they have The WashingtonPost reminds us that the XBB strain
the arctists the new variant World HealthOrganization said it although it should be protect
(02:00):
active with vaccine, the increase inCOVID has going up by the thousand.
So I don't want to scare anybodythat we're all going back on ventilators in
hospitals, but for sure the deathrate will go up. I guess it's
a general reminder to be careful.I still wear my mask. I don't
know about you guys out there, and you know, keep getting the vaccines.
(02:23):
Lastly, the Medical Press says thatthe University of Australia has developed a
spray and I'm not sure how thisworks, but it's spray plastic and it
works as a shield you spray onsurfaces against infection. All right, let's
go on to government regulations. Icall this the Obamacare section. Star Ledger
(02:46):
estimates that three hundred thousand will losetheir Medicaid coverage, you know in New
Jersey as the Medicaid is now goingback to stricter re enrollment policies. And
the real fear is we go throughthis. I've I've been here forty years
and except for COVID where they relaxthe restrictions and people all want all Medicaid
(03:14):
every year. Was a problem becauseyou have people they make too much,
they don't make enough. They goin one area, they go out and
move to another area. That changedthis job. They're always going on and
off of Medicaid, and we're alwaystrying to get them enrolled the pediatrician,
you know, so that the kidscan stay on it. So now I
hope everybody remembers how to do it. Let's see the NBC News also mentions
(03:43):
that it's not just Medicaid medical coverage, but dental coverage is tied to this
too. Now here's an interesting thing. There's a helpline one eight zero zero
seven zero one zero seven one zero. I'll do that again. Is very
important. One eight hundred seven zeroone zero seven one zero. And also
(04:06):
Google put out that it has asite to navigate how to tell if he
makes the medicaid determination. So eithergoogle it on Google or call one eight
hundred seven h one zero seven onezero. But please don't lose your medicaid.
Then moving on to another topic that'ssimilar against star Ledger, the SNAP
(04:27):
program, Governor Murphury raised the minimumthat ninety five dollars is the minimum you'll
get. There's a bunch of ruleshere. But before I give you the
rules, let me just say I'vebeen following this closely in the congressional hearings
and it really goes down between partylines. But the bottom line is everybody
(04:49):
wants people that don't have food toget food. Everybody wants children, elderly
people in senior living situations, peoplethat are disabled, people that even just
get out of jail and can't finda job yet and can't eat. Everybody
wants all these things included. Theonly thing the Republicans were saying, and
(05:14):
this is what's holding it up inthe Farm bill because this has to go
through the Farm Bill every five yearsit is past. And remember again during
COVID, these the rules were relaxedand more people were put on SNAFF,
that's the supplementary nutrition program. Butthey were saying they ordered past the budget.
They wanted to make sure that peoplethat really can work aren't just taking
(05:38):
a free ride. So but nobodyon either side is against people that are
can't work or disabled, elderly's livingin senior homes, whatever, Nobody's against
them not getting it. So Ithink it's going to go through in some
form. I just don't know ifit'll be enough. Also, I heard
the Secretary of Agriculture and also sayagain, I've been watching these meetings very
(06:02):
closely and very interested in people eatingand having food. And they said they've
been sending out to veterans and allsorts of people, all kinds of qualifications
that they can meet to get thisextra food and to get the help they
need. There's other parts of thefarm bill where they're trying to take farms
(06:24):
that are actually losing, thousands ofsmall farmers losing their farms, trying to
get the money because to help themwork with the poor and work with having
places to sell their food and all, because if we feeding the poor,
a big part of that is keepingthese small farmers alive and everything. So
(06:46):
anyway, it's complicated, but let'smove on. Oh yeah, so I'm
sorry I didn't give you the rule. So for the SNAP for the supplemental
if you're under nineteen and your houseincome is less than three hundred and fifty
five percent of the federal poverty level, which is one hundred and six thousand,
five hundred dollars for a family offour, you qualify if you're over
(07:10):
nineteen nineteen to sixty four and you'reless than one hundred and thirty eight percent
of the federal poverty level, whichis twenty thousand for a single and twenty
seven thousand for a couple, andif you're pregnant and less than two hundred
and five percent of the federal povertylevel or sixty one thousand, five hundred
(07:32):
for a family of four. Andthere they pointed out that the infant remains
covered. Tilly's one year old andnow even undocumented, the illegal alien undocumented
are still eligible now, so thatwas interesting that so nobody should starve and
(07:55):
we just have to test this SNAP. In Farm Bill say, okay,
Associated Press, President Biden, Ohyeah, this goes along with it.
President by ruled that illegal immigrants canaccess Medicaid and these changes now too.
And the Associated Press that President Bidenis trying to lower drug costs with his
(08:16):
Inflation Reduction Act, and especially CaptainInsulin and the big companies. BIL artist
Lily Sinelsi have all agreed and Medicarecourses negotiating prices too. Fox says in
a survey that seventy one p orhaving trouble paying their health bill with the
inflation. Now you know, allthe prices going up, and this refers
(08:39):
to not only increase in healthcare costs, but increasing all the other costs that
go along. They said half ofthem have trouble paying a bill if it's
over two hundred and fifty dollars andmost bills are One out of five had
to use their savings. One outof four is now and co election and
(09:01):
the government says, I thought thiswas what actually heard this in testimony on
c stand on the government hearings thatif you're under if you owe under five
hundred dollars, they can't add ahealthcare build to your credit records. Let's
see. Bloomberg News says that,oh yeah, you may want to write
(09:26):
this down. Nine eight eight isthe suicide hotline. So please nobody get
hurt. If you know anybody orworried about anybody, write this number down
nine eight eight. You call thatand they'll get you emergency help. The
New York Times says that the FDAhas now approved over the counter in the
(09:56):
locks zone. Remember that's the sprayup the nose in case somebody over doses
with opioids. CNN says there's aCalifornia build to ban red die three and
titanium dioxide. Titanium dioxide is thatwhite color that smooths out candy, gives
(10:16):
it a smooth texture. Of coursered dye three and Europe and Japan have
band these already, including yellow dye. They even yellow dye find Yven band
gatorade for a while. I don'tknow if it's still band of course we
all use gatorade here, but itwas all because of these yellow dyes.
(10:39):
Now, other stuff in the candypotassium bromide that strengthens the dotor rising bread
and brominaded vegetable oils keeps citrus fromfloating to the top. These things are
all can cause damage to the body, and so they want those band as
well. California at least is workingon at parabins. You know, they
(11:05):
make plastics and all they had antimicrobio and they've been looking at not only
candy, but protein shakes, instantrice, potato products, baked cake mix
box cake mixes that handle all thesethings. And the New York Posts says
(11:26):
Cornell University was looking at redde fortyand yellow Die five and six and citanium
dioxide and silicone dioxide that harms. They got Associated Press says the EPA Environmental
Protection Association limits the pfas those plasticsforever chemicals in water to new year zero.
(11:50):
Now, oh yeah, that wasmoving on to the next subject.
So again getting back to this beforeI leave it. So yellow guys,
red guyes, titanium dioxide, rominatedvegetable oils, use your conscience. Europe
and Japan got rid of them.California just trying to start a thing to
(12:11):
get rid of them here. TheFDA still accepts it, but I know
some of the companies have gotten ridof some of these things. As you
studied the newspaper updates on these foodpreservatives and colorings and all. Some of
the companies have voluntarily gotten rid ofthem. But you know, use your
(12:31):
own conscious, you know your ownjudgment on that. Let see Bloomberg News.
The Health, Human Safety, andEPA Environmental Protection is asking states to
use federal funds to remove lead inthe water and it takecare early care in
(12:52):
schools. Let's see CNN Customs. So this is funny. Customs limited can
petty filled colored eggshells from Mexico. This was during easter. Do the bird
flue because the eggshells contain eggs thathad birth flue in it. So let's
see kenn. The FDA is draftingguidelines on labeling plant based milk. You
(13:16):
guys, I don't know if you'veheard this pit. The milk companies are
very upset that plant based milk iscalling itself milk, so now they wanted
to call it alternative milk. Andeven the Academy Pediatrics has come out and
warned us that for little toddlers, and we have to tell our patients the
soil milks, the coconut milk, common milk, they really don't have the
(13:39):
protein as whole milk. So there'snothing wrong with drinking vegetable milk. You
just have to remember to give extracalcium, vitamin D and protein. Let's
see, Reuters said, the FDAis proposing the rule on salt substitutes and
package foods. I'll be interesting.I don't know what these salts institutes are.
(14:01):
And the Washington Post says that theFDA says healthy to be called a
healthy label, oh yeah, youguys have heard about this. You have
to contain at least one healthy ingredientlike a food, vegetable or dairy.
You can't just be all fake foods. You've got to have one that's real,
and you have to have low saturatedfat, sodium, and sugar.
(14:22):
The previous rule left out sugar,so that's what the new rule was,
including sugar. So if you seehealthy label, it's got to actually mean
something. Although see how that goesa few more you guys on this page
New York Times, the FDA approvesOh yeah, the RSV vaccine respiratory sincentual
virus. We were never able fordecades to make it for the little premium
(14:46):
babies and all, so we hadto use special gamglobulin shots that were like
a thousand dollars a shot. Butthey finally made an rs V vaccine.
We've been winning decades for this, but it's only a GS game fisure,
but it's only released for old guyslike me over sixties. So we'll see
what happens there. Hopefully one daywill happen for the kids. FDA approves
(15:07):
a lab grown good meat chicken.I have no idea what that is.
Pro publica. The government is lookingat automatic health claim denials. Oh yeah,
this is big. I've been watchingthis all over the place. Some
researchers I sell them on TV discussingtheir research. I think they looked at
signal, but they're looking at allthe insurance companies. You know, a
(15:31):
number of my friends were medical directorsof insurance companies, and I know what
that's like. I used to volunteertime over at the insurance companies. I
mean, it's very difficult. Youwant to give patients every benefit of the
doubt and have their case reviewed andnot just be denied. But they have
so many cases and it takes solong that insurance companies are using artificial intelligence
(15:54):
to either automatically deny those that aregoing to be denied into allow the medical
directors and the insurance team, moretime the staff to go over the more
complicated cases. To be honest withyou, guys, although it's the pain
in the butt, I get onthe phone if I have the patient i'm
worried about, I call the medicaldirector. You know, I don't need
(16:15):
this artificial intelligence craft interfere with me. You know, I call it if
I say, I say, listen, what do you guys think? Tell
me what you want me to do. I got this kid. He's in
trouble, you know. You know, so I don't even wait for this
stuff. But I don't know howmany doctors, I'm old fashioned, how
many doctors take the time to dothat. But the purpose of the artificial
(16:36):
intelligence is to clear out ones they'regoing to deny anyway, to let them
take their time all months they canlook at I don't know if it's a
good thing or a bad thing.I mean, it's getting permission to do
things and having insurance denials. It'shere to stay good or bad, and
we got to learn to live withit. So anyway, Star Ledger seven,
(17:00):
Oh yeah, this is nice.Seven New Jersey hospitals were ranked by
Newsweek. They had like a thousandhospitals and of course the top five in
the country or the usual Male Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Massachusetts General Hopkins,
and even UCLA, but some ofours. Marstown made it a number forty
six, hack infect made it afifty seven, several of them made it
(17:25):
over one hundred, Sally Overlook inBest Israel, Inglewood and Mamas. So
anyway, let's move on now toother news. And as usual, I
always start with recalls, and pleaseremember my disclaimer. I'm doing this news
show at a later time than thenecessary poisons were actually may have been removed.
(17:47):
So I'm going to mention things thatmaybe old stuff. Just be careful.
Asked your store or your pharmacists ifthese things that have been cleared and
what you're eating is still good. It's it's so I'm mentioning them, but
I always have that disclaimer. Okay, let's go through them. Fox News
the eye drops artificial tears as weecare Deltan farm. They have pseudomonas and
(18:12):
some people have lost their eye.And this is interesting, can actually spread
person to person. Fox News Laridaoysters raw fla raw Laarida oysters that's tom
Flister have salmonella. CNN Frozen strawberrieshave hepatitis A from California, Mexico.
(18:33):
I eat strawberries been not frozen.I eat fresh USA today. Gerber Good
Start protm powder. Oh no,here we go again. That same chronal
back there that killed both babies fromthe Simuli company last year at the bad
bacteria meningitis. So gerber Good Starthad to pull its formula. It's powder.
(18:56):
Lytle top past top hats, cocktailshrimp has lysteria lit those tops cocktail
shrimp. Fox says that car WashaFoods shrimp have caustridium sold a Walmart Safe
Way and Albertson raw roasted red pepperswith mushrooms. Oh, it's just you
(19:22):
know, they had nuts. Theyforgot to label nuts. Fox says there's
lysteria semisoft baronnet cheese. If youhave Baronet cheese. Elkhorn Valley beef has
E coli and I have a numberhere est M nineteen five four nine,
(19:42):
nineteen five four nine, So ElkhornValley beef is poisoned with the coal.
Health and Wellness News says there's lysteriain Revolution Farm salad kits. Revolution Farm
salad Kits. Forbes there's listeria andbuilt more smoked salmon. Seven seas readers
(20:06):
digest, Oh, this is aboutthe dogs. Stratford Care for Dogs has
put too much omega three and vitaminA and purina had too much vitamin B.
I think those were special things soldby vets. Let's go on to
some other general health news. Youguys were coming into the summer a lot
(20:30):
of ticks. That b ciosis ishere. You all know about lyme disease,
but that biosis is another one.So you see a tick and you
have trouble come running. The strapis really mean. I'm seeing a lot
of straps. We're all looking forkids going into shock and getting skin eating
flesh. That that necrosis and theyhad met amputations. I have not seen
(20:53):
it. My daughter's down in Texasat a big hospital and she's seen in
it. But I'm seeing a lotof bad strap. CNN says the polio
in New York. Remember last yearthe polio they think it would do because
the vaccine rate went less than sixtypercent. About in Rockland. Now here's
(21:15):
a few statistics about polio. Sincepolio's back, you just soon know a
few things. Three out of fourpeople have no signs or symptoms and yet
can still spread it. They mayonly have a mile sore throat or headache
or nothing, and one out oftwo hundred is going to be paralyzed.
This is no joke, people,Polio is no joke. Okay, let's
(21:37):
see thirteen million in the USA arewalking around with latent TB. You guys
have TB and don't even know it. One out of ten of you,
untreated will get full blown TV.We need to look for TV everybody.
Fox says, increase in neurovirus.Yes, this is that virus that goes
through whole household businesses, goes throughships, you know, the cruse ships.
(22:00):
People that have been like just havingterrible diarrhea. We've been seeing it
for months. A lot of that'sno roal virus measles in Kentucky. I
don't know if you'll heard that newsWashington Post, Candida or orens. That's
a resistant form of yeast and itis deadly mostly in the immune compromised and
(22:22):
healthcare facilities and long term care, very very hard to treat. CNN.
There's been a brain eating of me, but death and get a load of
this. It was in Florida. He used, This is scary because I
always used to use tap water formy nasal rins, saying where you mix
the salt and the water, youknow, and no more, I've been
(22:45):
using distilled, watered and boiled water. He got anibo from his sink from
his taf water cleaning out his nose. How sick? Is that scary?
Terrifying? Let's see in science, they said Science magazine increasing colon cancer in
less than fifty five years old tothe United States Preventive Service Task Force is
(23:07):
now starting to screen at forty five. They remind you if you have recto
bleeding, anemia, weight loss, pain changed in school, you know,
you just want to make sure it'snot cancer. The BBC says that the
American Society, in the American Societyof Clinical Oncology, they think they have
(23:30):
a blood test for tumor DNA thatafter you've had surgery to see whether you
really need chemo if the DNA.If the tumor DNA is not in the
blood, you may not need chemo. And Fox says in Korea they now
have a urine test for pancreatic andpress state cancer. Is very interesting.
(23:51):
Smart News says the NIH is workingon a universal flu vaccine now in clinical
trial, and Medical Press says thatflu vaccine is being prepared, so universal
flu vaccine for all of us,and they're working on Burke flu as well.
Let's see just a few more thingson this page. CNN. FDA
(24:15):
has approved a nasal migraine spray byFiser called zap Spread. I'll see what
that is. I haven't used toget New York Times. CDC is mentioning
an increase in autism. One outof every thirty six eight year olds has
autism. That's like one in theclass. That's pretty scary. I know.
Jersey, we have a high rateto congress congressional hearings on drug shortages.
(24:41):
I've been following them very closely inthe office. It's a real pain.
We're having trouble with add meds, antibiotics, beautyl anesthesia. We're always
rearranging and fighting for these things.Let's see Star Ledger New Jersey Poison Then
Center has said there's an increase insuicidal attempts. Uh, it's all from
(25:06):
this COVID anxiety and all this craft. You guys, we just we just
got to do a better job ofcalming everybody down. Let's see Independent News
said there's something I didn't know aboutthis called ozempic face. Ozempic face for
the face ages. You know, azempic that's used for weight loss, and
(25:27):
that did you know azempic can alsocause cyroid cancer, kidney disease, pancreatic
call bladders disease, and vision loss. I did not know that, you
guys. I would not take ozempicunless you're prescribed by a doctor. By
the way, they said, semaglue, tide and tear's pet tide,
(25:49):
those diabetes drugs. These here's thepet tide is in more jyro, more
in gyro. These weight loss drugs. You guys, don't fool on your
own little doctor. I don't knowhow to use it, and I wouldn't
do it. Just go to adoctor that knows how to use this stuff.
But see medical press. The MayoClinic. Oh this is interesting,
(26:10):
you guys have very interesting study. You know some people have kidney stones.
They said, actually increasing the calciumand potassium in the diet will reduce the
stones. I thought that was reallyinteresting. They want to drink a lot
of fluids, three and a halfliters a day. Careful with your caffeine,
(26:32):
which is bad for the stones. It can concentrate the urine and fight
takes in grains and nuts will alsoincrease calcium absorption and excretion. Here's an
interesting thing. So they want youto eat more potassium as well. Potassium
and fruits. They said bananas, oranges, grapefruits, cantaloup, honeydew,
(26:53):
melon, and apricots. Interesting.I eat a banana and apricot every day.
I didn't know the melons, potasium, oranges. So I guess you
got potassium and the citrus fruit. And it's in vegetables, potatoes, mushrooms,
we all eat that. You're greens, peace, cucumbers, bikini.
So the tatsium you can get differentplaces, not just banana. Last thing
(27:15):
on this page met page today, one out of five of us as adults
has chronic pain. As the CDCfigure. I can attest to that.

(29:08):
Continues with doctor Berry Price Toe Ski. Okay, you guys, we're almost
done. Let's move on to thefinal part of the show, Health and
Safety Tips, and we'll start withCNN Environmental Working Group. You're not gonna
like this, you guys. Hopeyou're not eating lunch while you're listening to
(29:29):
this. There's increased pesticides almost everythingwe're eating. I guess you got to
go organic to get away from it. Blueberries, green beans, strawberries,
spinachcale collars, mustard, greens, peaches, pears, mactarines, cherries,
apples, grapes, bell and hotpeppers. And those were those are only
(29:52):
the ones with the most pesticide.Everything else had had less but still had
it. It's the Independent News Watershedand Esticators Working with the English England Center
for Environment and Fisheries found the plasticsto forever chemicals pass and flounder jab and
plates fish. So it's in theBig Fish Fox consumer reports on dark chocolates.
(30:18):
Oh no, there we go attacking. We all fought dark chocolates,
was the way. Now they're sayingleading cabmium. But this is interesting though.
They this ain't really for kids. They said adults can eat the dark
chocolates. They're not worried about theleading cabmium. They're more interested in kids.
And they say you can balance outthe leading cabmium poisoning if you're eating
a lot of iron and to thinkselenium calcium, which we all take in
(30:44):
our vitamins. Now, interestingly, for the cabmium, Pershey's Cocoa Powder and
Special Dark, Hershey's Coco Powder andSpecial Dark had safe levels to eat according
to the FDA. And they mentionedthat cadmium. Remember this was lead and
(31:07):
cadmium. Cadmium is in some flowerseeds that were above the safe level.
Even if lettuce was above this, unlettuce ballas so I don't know. And
it's a cook spinach and potato chips. Oh, cook spinach and potato chips
had a safe level. So numbers, everything has these minimals. They're all
in the ground. Whatever has grownpotatoes are going to have because it's grown
(31:33):
in the ground, right, it'sgoing to have it. You know,
whatever it's grown in the ground,it's going to have these these metal toxins.
It's just that lead and cadmium canbe counteracted by eating enough iron,
zinks, lenium, and calcium. So you just got to make sure you're
eating enough good foods. I don'tknow they're suggesting that leave the dark chocolate
for adults and not kids. Okay, let's move on. Fox says the
(31:56):
Peeps was recalled the red for Easterthrough the red dye three and that was
from Consumer Reports. Again. Iremember we talked about this earlier about the
red red dyes yellow dyes. SoPeeps was recalled TikTok. The oh,
this is that TikTok. It's one. Every day is a different things.
Somebody is poisoning himself with alcohol withbena drill. Now they're putting lip bomb
(32:22):
on their eyes. It's just disgusting. Just I don't know why people will
even look at that. Okay,USA. Today, fentanyl is wasaced with
animal tranquilizer called xylazine, So becareful there. I mean, I don't
know who would go out and usesent at all, but just remember it's
contaminated with animal tranquilizer, increasing yourchances of dying. This I didn't know.
(32:46):
Fox says lawn Dress recalls a fabricconditioner that has ethylene oxide according to
the Consumer Product Stafety Commission, Idon't know how to use this lawn Dress
fabric conditioner, but apparently the excuseme the levels of ethylene oxide for so
(33:10):
high that they had to recall theconditioner. CNN says they the Calico Critter
toys. Calico Critter toys, yourecall it chokes a couple of kids to
death on pacifiers. I'm not surewhat that is. Oh, you guys
all know about the Ohio thing withthe vinyl chloride still and bootal acetate,
(33:31):
and the healthcare workers all got sick, going house to house. Just they
got the healthcare workers going in tosee who was sick. They all got
sick themselves. Now I deserved fromone of my patients today. Pretty scary
that she's in Pennsylvania. I'm inJersey. But she comes to team me.
She's in Pennsylvania. The water supplyfrom Ohio is now poisoning Pennsylvania.
(33:54):
She told me, Lord head Mercy. OKAYDNN says CDC guns are now the
leading cause of childhood depths. Noh Mars med page today Mental East cigarettes.
They're still out there damaging lungs.Washington Posts. Oh this is crazy,
(34:19):
you guys, listen to this.Women went in to get a pregnancy
test and they came out positive foropium. You know, so they said,
what do you guys do when you'repregnant and you're getting high on opium.
Well, they weren't taking opium. They were eating poppy sea bagels.
How crazy is that? That's crazy. Just a few more, you guys
were coming down to the end hereCNN Nature med the sugar substitute a rift
(34:47):
ratol. I did not know this. This is from CNN from a study
from Nature Medicine. A rift retolsugar substitute found in stevia, monk fruit,
keeter we do. Sugar products hasbeen known to cause strokes, heart
