Courageous Doctors is a newscast about healthcare topics of concern
to everyone, from health and safety tips to recall notices
(00:22):
and medical news. Here's your host, doctor Barry PRIs Doosky.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Hello everybody, and welcome to Courageous Doctors, the new show
for you and your doctor. It's been a couple months
and we're well into the summer, almost at the fall.
But let's catch you up on some highlights. As always,
we do the epidemics COVID and upcoming bird flue, and
we look at government regulations, and we look at general
(00:54):
healthcare news and with some health and safety tips. So
listen joy this. Let's see what we got today, All right,
on COVID and bird flu tips USA. Today there are
increasing numbers of debts from COVID going into the emergency room,
but not nearly what it was four years ago. But
(01:16):
just be aware of be careful. The strains. As you know,
the new strains will be coming out soon in the
new vaccines. We're still waiting for them. They're not going
to be the by variant that we had covering two
strains from last year. They're going to be just a
single thing. They'll handle the KP point three and LB
point one and the KP point two, I'm sorry, the
(01:37):
KP point two and the j N point one. And
you can give it with the RSV shot also and
give it starting at six months old and up. So
we're trying to get it for the babies too. I'll
be waiting for my shot too. Should be okay and
cleared hopefully within a couple of weeks. Let's see routers
jumping to bird flu. There's seven more cases of bird flu,
(02:01):
you know from the poultry and dairy farmers. Colorado has three.
So basically, you know, just be smart, don't drink growl milk,
make sure your meat and eggs are cooked well, you know,
because all these things have bird flu in them. If
you're taking care of animals, use protective gloves, you know,
stuff like that. You know, use the thermometer, cook them well,
(02:22):
they say, and pasteurized milk. It's not spread. But the
FDA is all over this and the inspectors they're following
this bird flu and all the food that we're eating,
So just be safe Reuters. Yeah, the FDA's testing all
dairy products. Hey, let's move on to government rigs. We're
going at a nice speed here. Let's see.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Well, I always like to start with where we are
with healthcare. So we're eight point two percent uninsured, and
that's still due to all the Medicaid cuts we had.
Remember one point six million people lost their coverage and
twenty seven million are still uninsured. We had more people
insured under the Emergency Act that Bud got rid of,
(03:05):
and since he got rid of it, that.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Chopped a lot of people off. What are you going
to do? He's the president, but so people are trying
to get help with Medicaid and some of us left
to pick up the pieces that he dropped, or trying
to help these people with charity care. But hopefully they'll
get insurance again somehow USA. Today, half of Americans are
(03:28):
still surprised that their medical bills and found that a
lot of covered services were not covered. We never had
this problem when everybody was on the Emergency Act. But well,
What are you going to do? People saw denials. We
deal with this every day, you guys. I got to
tell you.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
I got to tell you.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Half my office staff is trying to get patients all
their procedures. I'm a general pediatrician, and we work all
day long to try to give people the healthcare they need.
That's half of the time was spent. It's horrible, horrible,
all right. Anyway, forty were actually hurt because they had
to wait for services they didn't get. Hey, you guys,
(04:09):
that's my life. I live with it every day. I
cry with these patients. But I call all day long
on the phone. What are you going to do if
the insurance screws them and they can't kick coverage, what
are you going to do? Let's see Star Ledger. The government,
the governor of Jersey passed a law to take effect
in one year. And this was good. Murphy's a good guy.
(04:31):
I like him. You cannot have you cannot have a
medical debt less than five hundred dollars reported to the
credit services. You know a lot of people their credits
being ruined because they have debt. But if it's under
five hundred dollars, forget about it. Credit report can't get it.
You got to wait a year for this. You still
screwed for another year. You cannot garnish wages by collection.
(04:53):
I love this. Governor Murphy's a good guy. I really
like them. The agency, if you earn less than six
six hundred percent poverty level, which is ninety three hundred
and sixty dollars for one person, then they can't touch you.
You know, they can't put doing collection. And the agency,
(05:14):
if they do put you in collection, if you earn
a lot more than that, they can't charge you more
than three percent interest to your debt. So anyway, Murphy's
trying to help. At least one guy's trying to help.
I didn't let us down, but at least Murphy's trying
to help. So let's move on. Let's see. Can't cry
over spilled milk, right, Bloomberg Medicare is Bloomberg News. Medicare
(05:36):
is negotiating to decrease costs to sixty four different drugs.
We'll see if some of that happens. And the FTC
Federal Trade Commission is suing the you know, the benefit
managers pharmacy benefit managers over insulin prices. And there's about
five different I sent you three days. There's a few
(05:57):
basic benefit managers that there's of them. They covered ninety
five percent of all scripts. They're looking at optim Scripts Group,
Express Scripts care Mark. Those guys control all the prices
of medicine in the country, and what are you gonna do?
They control everything. But so anyway, the government's trying to
(06:17):
see them. Now we'll see what happens. Let's see a
tuberculosis patient was jailed for refusing treatment and in the
jail they actually had a negative pressure room to stop
the spread. That was in Washington State. How crazy is that.
I haven't heard that in a long time. Interesting stat
(06:38):
There's thirteen million people that are walking around with hitting
tuberculosis they call Layton, and ten percent will become active
if not treated. So we're thank god, you know, with us,
all the colleges, nursing schools, people working with children, they
all require that tubercular test. I get one a year
myself just because I'm in the hospital, and I'm glad
(07:01):
that we screen it because it's still out there. Let's
see Reuters, the CBS News, the FDA is really trying
to ban the Bromi vegetable oils and foods and drinks
and npr ads that they've banned also for aldehyde and
hair straighteners. Well that's good. You don't want to string
(07:23):
your hair with something you put in a dead body.
Let's see Time magazine. The Federal Trade Commission is warning
five copycat companies stop putting that marijuana stuff in foods,
you know, the THC delta eight, because they're not regulated.
(07:45):
People are getting sick. And they mentioned a couple of names.
I don't know any of this stuff, you guys, but
the names they mentioned was Hippie Mood, Earthly Hemps, sham Rocks,
Mary Jane Bakery, like Deaf Medical, CBD. So you guys
know that stuff better than me. But anyway, it's copycat,
(08:06):
is not regulated, you know, move it your own caution.
Fox says that methylene chloride, used in getting caffeine out
of coffee has to be removed to below ten parts
per million. I'm gonna I drink a lot of decapped coffee,
you guys. Who the hell knows how much of this
crap is in me? But supposedly, if they're honest, less
(08:28):
than ten parts per million. Who knows if one day
that'll change, But I don't know, they used the methylene
chloride to get the caffeine out of the bean, and
then they're supposed to wash it off, but what are
you gonna do. Methylene chlorids are poison, So who knows.
I'm still here, I'm seventy, I'm still alive, but hopefully
it was I'm at a safe level. But see Washington Post.
(08:51):
FDA approves mental flavored e cigarettes. That's a huge problem.
You know, you guys, it's still not too children, so
we can't stay too much there. But this was a
huge fight going back, way back past Trump even earlier,
and it was that the mental flavor was attracted the
kids to this big cigarette craft. You know, these kids
(09:13):
have vape lung and they and I have to X
ray them and it's all kinds of problems. But the
thing is they felt the FDA back down. They just
gave in because the adults like mental. But you know,
so you can allow mental, but still just don't like
kids smoke. And maybe we're okay, I don't know, they
should get rid of it, but what are you going
to do? Star Ledger? The Supreme Court overturns a Florida,
(09:39):
Texas law prohibiting social media from stopping political speech. Oh man,
it's a big one. You guys been watching all the
c spans, all the big tech companies, social media, all
of them are in front of Congress. They're all getting,
you know, scolded for kids being suicide and being ray
(10:00):
been killed and sex traffic and their heads being turned
to all that stuff. And you know, those guys got
to work with the government. I know they're working. I
hear all that stuff. But what apparently in Florida and
Texas they said, don't stop these companies. Obviously they don't
want suicide or kids being raped, but what they're trying
(10:23):
to do is to at least allow free political speech.
So I don't know, how do you draw the difference
between speech freedom to say politically what you want versus
kids being damaged and raped, they kidnapped and killing themselves.
I'm not a lawyer, you guys, so you figure it out.
But anyway, that's something that's still in there. But they
(10:45):
did say that the White House can can ask a
social media to take it down if it's inciting violence.
So so they gave Biden a little wiggle room there.
But see New York Times. FDA approves a blood test
for colon cancer. It looks for the DNA of the cancer.
This was reported in New England Journal of Medicine. It's
(11:08):
a field test. It's by Guardian Hell and I found
eighty seven percent of the cancers all but if didn't
find the polyps only thirteen percent of polyps. So the
blood tests will pick up if there's cancer there. But
you still need to do the screen. I have to
also have to get my Colonoscoddo you know you still
got to look through the polyps, but at least you'll
(11:30):
be able to balance those cancer itself.
Speaker 1 (11:32):

Speaker 1 (13:13):
Courageous Doctors continues with doctor Barry Price Towski.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
Okay, let's move on to other healthcare news. As always,
we start with recalls. And remember my disclaimer. I'm doing
this late, so some of these items that have already
been safely removed, but just ask your person where you
buy them to be sure and make sure that they're
(13:38):
not stuck in your freezer and you forgot about them.
But let's move Let's go through these quickly. So Lysteria. Lysteria,
a food poisoning is in chicken. Seek kebab is in
silk milk. Great Value brand. Silk milk that's a vegetable milk.
(14:00):
Great Value brand. Is in green beans, peppers, organic zucchinis,
theilantro in the Aldi stores, walmartin Kroger's, according to Fox
And it's called Weirs Farm w I E R, w
I E R and Freshman Farm. The silk milk was
(14:20):
a CBC report. Time says, Lysteria is in cucumbers. I'm sorry, salmonella.
Salmonella is in cucumbers. That's another food poisoning Bender Grower's
Thomas Produce Fox says that Boreshead delimeats had the lysteria
(14:46):
bores had Deli Meats. FDA says the walnuts st ut
Z walnuts have the infection. Salmonella was also a candy
at Marget Walmart Dollar General called Palmer Candy, White Coated Candy, Confectionery,
(15:07):
Patriotic Pretzels, Sweet Smiles, Snacking with the Crew, Cases with
the crew, scans the chocolate with the crew, Favorite Day
Bakery with the crew, and Sonny Select and something Urgy
with the crew. So anyway, just check you guys. A
couple more lead lead, according to NPR, is still being
(15:30):
found in the cinnamon products. Remember that apple sauce with
the Wannabana Juanna Bana Wife and Snook Snook and spices
Compania in Diller Oriented has led alb Flavor, s h
A Coda, Silozoda, spice Class Loam, Frontira l Chi Lar
(15:57):
Markham Swaps Supreme Tradition and Al Silvador spices with lead
but see rodents. Rodents were found in Wild Blend Gourmet
rice Lumberg Family Farms. Allergies not reported on soyan almonds
just not labeled Fox says in the Costco salad, ancient
(16:19):
grain and veggi salad. Be careful. There's soya nuts in there,
ancient grain and veggie salad. Mushrooms that give you psychedelic
drug effects is in these many chocolates, diamonds, Shrugs brand, diamonds,
Schmooz brands, many chocolates. All right, let's move on to
(16:40):
other healthcare CDC. Then gay fever going up cases seen
right here in New York and New Jersey. That's a
bad one, you guys. That'll put you under. You can
high fevers, bleed to death. It's a bad one. Take
my word, you really don't want it. It's a mosquito
born disease in New York and Jersey. I just read
(17:01):
on the news before I came in here. The Eastern
equin and cephalitis, which is like dangay. Another one is
killing some people up in Connecticut. It's on the border
with Rhode Island. My kids are up there, My son's
up there with his family. It's just so scary, and
there's a warning as of last night not to go
(17:23):
out after dark because the mosquitos carrying the quin and
cephalitis up there will kill you. Ah, terrifying NBC measles
is on the outbreak. It's mostly in the untraveled, but
there's been thirteen outbreaks. New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York was
in the migrant shelters, and measles an TV in the
(17:46):
Chicago migrant shelters. So I've been telling my patients, you guys,
be careful. You know, some people are no vexers. But
what are you gonna do? Some people they take chances,
they live dangerously. But the measles is there, hooping call
is there? What are you gonna do? Now? We got these,
you know, dengay and equin encephalitis. It's pretty scary out there.
(18:07):
Let's see Pan American Health Organization. Here's another one, the
oh ro Pucci virus in Latin America. You just bleed
to death. It's like a dengay like zeka and it
causes babies to have small heads. Some bad stuff out there,
you guys. West nonvirus West nonvirus down in Cape May
(18:28):
and stuff like New York. It's in fourteen states. Fetal
fentanyl syndrome. Oh, that's interesting, Okay, So you know how
these moms are getting hit with fentanyl it's been you know,
like the President is trying to get China from to
stop poisoning US across the border. Hey, you guys know
about that. You know all the border craft that we
(18:50):
hear in the news every day. Well, apparently fentanyl and
people are either dying of fentanyl or if the moms
take it and he goes to the baby is the
syndrome and the babies. Now, I technically haven't seen this,
and I see babies every day in the hospital. But
we're supposed to look for cleft palates, small head, drooped eyelids,
(19:11):
joint problems, web toes, they're irritable, they seize, they vombit, diarrhea, fatigue,
and trouble feeding. So you know, we have all kind
of morphine withdrawal and cocaine withdroll and all that craft.
Now we got fentonol withdrawal. Let's see star Ledger doxy cycling.
We've talked about this in the past. If you take
it's the stuff for pimples and it's used for other things.
(19:34):
If you take the antibiotic within seventy two hours, it'll
prevent a sexually transmitted disease. That's a good thing. Sun
Lenca sun Lenka, a Gill Lead Gill Lead pharmacy product.
I saw this on the news. I saw these scientists
that worked it out. I saw a whole program documentary.
(19:56):
It's very interesting. I think we've recorded this before. In Africa,
they give the shot twice a year and it prevents
age and it's really a great thing. Let's see. Infectious
disease advisors say that the RSV does can last three years.
I did not know that. I thought that would be
given every year. Okay, wonderful three years? Nahad the UK A, Oh,
(20:21):
this is fascinating. Oh this is a nine year old
had his pancreas removed and the diabetes preventive cells, the
eyelets were reimplanted into the liver. That's incredible. I never
heard of that. What's this, doctor Patel? Oh, Doctor Cavita
Patel was talking on the pots pots. You know where
(20:44):
your heart goes fast and you pass out when you
stand up postuo orthostatic tachy cardio syndrome, you get disney
in fain. It became big because remember the Olympic famous
swimmer Katie Ldeki. She has that so she has to
work hard to stay. I created takes salts avoid alcohol
with tight stockings because if she stands up too fast,
(21:07):
So I guess that's why she swims. She's not standing,
but you can pass out. New York Times FDA, oh yeah,
has approved a nasal adrenaline ouxciting you guys. I'm still
gonna wait for the reps to come around and the
experts to start lecturing us on this. You know, we
have to get lectured. We can't do stuff till the
(21:28):
experts lecture us, even though it comes out of the journals.
So I'm really excited. Instead of epiped, you can squirt
it up your nose. And lastly, on general healthcare news,
CBS reminds us, like I said, hooping cough is also
on the increase. Okay, let's hear input some health and
safety tips. Not too much more of you, guys. I'll
(21:49):
try to be quick with this Star Ledger For those
of you that are still at Labor Day Beach, just
some safety tips from the Star Ledger. Like clothing, sunscreen,
you have to be over six months old. Watch out
for sandholes where the kids can fall in and die.
(22:09):
Watch out for jellyfish, st hydrated, avoid caffee, and don't
leave the kid in the car when it's hot. Star Ledger,
Kim Delaware and Jeezel Lean are actually from the Washington Post.
The Ledger printed it. They said, no, the signs incentives
of heat, cramps, exhaustion, and stroke. In other words, you're cranky,
(22:35):
you're foggy, you're not hungry. If you're a baby, you're flush,
cheeks and clammy and warm and days. Look so avoid
hot hours, take water breaks. Have the strollers in the
shade well ventilated. Oh here's some more recalls, you guys.
Apparently I put them under health and safety because they're
(22:56):
not food. The mini Verst toy set. I don't know
what these are, but apparently they make pretend you're cooking
or cleaning the house or all the stuff you do,
you know, to make pretend stuff. Apparently, these many Verst
toy sets, they're called it causing skin brands, eye and
lung irritation when the resins and the sets are heated up.
(23:20):
What's this GMP University of cal at Berkeley. Oh my god,
there's metals in the tampons. You know, you guys don't
remember this, but forty years ago when I started, we
saw people dying of infected tampons. That's when they became taboo,
and then they got safe and came back and they
were getting staff infections. And now there's apparently metals like arsenic,
(23:45):
lagging cadmium that's being absorbed through the tampon fourteen brands.
It's organic and nonorganic. The FDA is going to review
this and so they actually get in the body. But
I don't know, you guys, I don't know understand anything
about tampons. I don't know why the metals have to
be in there, but see warnings. Warnings. They looked at
(24:08):
three thousand pregnancies and found the forever chemicals PFAS and
breast milk, and of course all the stuff's in the
soil and water that is grown in. But even coffee,
white rice, eggs, seafood, all the stuff I eat, you know,
it's got all this plastic crap in it. So we're
always talking about that. I don't know, you guys, I
(24:29):
don't know what to do. CNN Medical Press said that
lead and cadmium is still in dark chocolate. So you know,
you guys should be careful if you're pregnant, careful if
you're a young kid, and if you're older just don't
eat too much of it. But we got letals, we
got heavy metals, and everything we're eating dark, even dark chocolate.
(24:51):
Who would have thoughts? Got it? Got it? Let's see
lead is in baby food. Now, this is ridiculous, you guys,
baby food, sweet potatoes, teething biscuits, sandwiches, cookies, even white wine,
(25:12):
ranch dressing, shellfish, organic meats, herbs from China, Indian, Nigeria,
and Egypt has led you, guys. I don't know, it's
in everything. Just pote your conscience on that one. I
don't know what to do. Cadmium is in sunflower seeds, spinach, potato, church,
French fries, leaf lettuce, hi jiky seaweed. I honestly don't know,
(25:37):
you guys, We're just being poisoned all over the damn place.
Let's see CNN. This is interesting. You know, you guys
had a patient once it was really hurt by a tattoo.
It caused liver poisoning, and everybody just thought, you know,
it wasn't possible. But what happened is is the inks
absorbed into the lymph system. It goes to the lymph
(25:57):
nodes and if it doesn't cause infect action. You can
cause cancer in the liptnotes like lymphoma. So what they're
saying is make sure who's ever doing a tattoo all
to claves the ink changes their gloves after touching the ink.
Try to be careful. USA today erith retol. You know
(26:18):
the sugar substitutes. There's all different names. It's been linked
to strokes and heart attacks and it was reported in Arteriosclerosis,
Thrombosis and Vascular Disease Biology. A little bit more, you guys,
promise almost then Medical Press. Binghamton University doctor Sean Choy
(26:43):
was researching a special kind of bandage that somehow linked
turns on a current they call a biological battery. The
bandage turns on a current and forces healthy bacteria to
kill a wound and coffers in there. Interesting reported in
the Journal of AC Apply, Materials and Interfaces. I'll be
(27:06):
following that. I like stuff like that's gonna neat star
Ledger On essential oils, do not ingest them from the
vial only users directed. Some are for locos. There are
some for ingestion in a special form. You have to
know which ones you can eat. Avoid the sun. You
get sunburned with oils. You've got peppermint oil for irritable bowl,
(27:30):
you've got lavender for sleeping anxiety, tea tree oil for acne.
Be sure to wash it off. Medical press to prevent dementia.
You want to lower your bad cholesterol. Make sure you're
hearing and seeing good. Watch your sugar and sonium and
take where helmets, keep your pressure down. Avoid smoking in
(27:51):
air pollution good luck there, and treat depression. I guess,
just healthy lifestyle prevent dimension CNN Drinking sodium bi carb.
Be careful though of the sodium load. You know, buy
carb for stomach acid and if you have sore muscles
(28:12):
and exercise, they say bicarbonate can take away the acid
in your muscles. Just be careful. It has a lot
of sodium. Star ledger. Leaky gut allows toxic bacteria and
you know leaky gut syndrome where the gut doesn't keep
the bacteria out, the bad bacteria. That's why you always
(28:33):
takeing acidopolis and probiotics and good bacteria so the bad
bacteria it can go straight to the liver and cause
liver damage and autoimmune disease. You guys know all about them,
so be careful. With processed foods, fatty foods, limit alcohol,
increase fiber and decrease your your insets. You're at your
(28:56):
you know of ADLs and motrins. Don't take too much
because it'll damage the gut. Novella Louis Novella louis very
very thankful heirs. She talks about nuts, reminding us it's
a good it's as good as egg protein, and there's
seven grams of protein and a quarter cup of peanuts, almonds, pistachios,
(29:18):
all nuts are good. Yeah, just two more people, good authors.
I like following them. Cameron Wimberley has lunches for constipation.
How interesting we should all be on that. I just
mentioned a few avocado toasts with with a bun or
(29:40):
veggie green bowls, quinoa and chicken, falafa, falafel, taboule bowls
with dad Zeki smoothies, avocado banana, strawberry, pineapple with almond,
butter and milk, and more of you, guys. Matt Spina
(30:02):
Bean recipes to cook with beans Cuban black bean with lemon,
garlic and butter, sauce and green beans or corn burritos
Mexican stuff with Cooman roasted paprikra. I didn't know you
could put Paprica in Mexican foods oregano, o Kayne pepper
(30:25):
and less the hardy black garger with os egg soy
sauce chili potter. Okay, you guys enjoyed this very much.
We'll see you probably in another month or two. Have
a great Labor Day weekend, safe and healthy at the beach.
Careful what those mosquito diseases and all the recalls, and
(30:50):
we'll see you back soon. You all take care.
