(00:22):
and medical news. Here's your host, doctor Barry PRIs Doosky. Hello and
welcome to Courageous Doctors, the newshow for you and your doctor. It's
going to be back with you again, and hope you all had a nice
thanks skimming and they're going to havea really, really happy holiday season.

(00:45):
On this show, as you know, we discuss several main topics. We
do updates on COVID, on governmentregulations, on healthcare concerns, and on
health and safety tips. So let'sbegin briefly on update on COVID. The
government has said that less than oneout of five people in this country this

(01:11):
year have gotten the COVID shot, and half the people in the country say
they have no intention to get it. So I listened to some of the
experts on CNN and c SPAN someof our infectious disease doctors and they said
that it's going to be a roughseason because nobody's getting the COVID shots.

(01:34):
So we're already seeing an uptake inmany hospitalizations with both flu and RSV and
COVID, and so we just haveto see what happens. Two more issues
here. NPR says that long COVIDsuch as Brain Fog University of Pennsylvania has
done research. They're thinking this isvery very interesting. It might be due

(01:57):
to a low serotonu. You know, serotonin is one of those good field
hormones in our brain, and whenpeople are depressed, we give them medicine
to increase their serotonin levels. You'veheard of those like prozac and things like
that. Fox says, they putan article out that half the people with

(02:25):
COVID have lingering symptoms for three years. This was an article of research done
in China and Japan. So thatmeans these very irritating symptoms are lingering.
And it's interesting people that have theselingering symptoms for three years when they get

(02:47):
reinfected are more likely to have worsesymptoms. And it was kind of a
close call that was sixty two percentmore likely versus forty one though. All
right, let's move on to someof our government regulations. I call this
Obamacare updates and government ranks. First, we have from healthcare, the ten

(03:13):
million people lost their Medicaid coverage.Oh my lord, that's one out of
three, one out of three ofthe twenty eight million that were enrolled.
One out of three have lost theircoverage. But it varies on states.
For example, excuse me, twothirds sixty lost their coverage in Texas.

(03:38):
We're only ten, one out ofone hundred. I'm sorry, ten out
of one hundred and ten lost theircoverage in Illinois. So it depends on
the state and reasons given. Werethey missed the deadline to re enroll,
or the government was unable to reachthem, all kinds of reasons. This

(03:59):
is the big thing we worried about. Remember, we discussed this in the
spring when the end of the epidemicand the public health emergency was declared by
President Biden. Therefore, all thepeople had to re enroll on Medicaid that
were put on extra because of thecovid epidemic the last three years, and

(04:20):
so we knew this would be aproblem. But for one third that's high.
Let's see Associated Press reported on theCDC that there's an increase in inferant
mortality by three percent, and Bloombergsaid that this was due to maternity complications

(04:42):
during pregnancy, like the mother beingsick. Let's see NBC. The FDA
is proposing a ban on promenated vegetableoils. I think we mentioned this before
they damaged the liver, heart brain. A lot of the companies have removed,
i mean from their vegetable oils andsalad dressings and things you know,

(05:05):
or the oil you cook with, but some still have it. For example,
it's still used in fruit flavored sportsdrinks and soda. Most have stopped
using it though, okay, let'ssee MPR. The FDA proposes that ban
on hair relaxers, hair relaxers whichcontained formaldehide. People please from aldehide.

(05:30):
Do you all remember a couple ofyears ago are reported on people getting definitely
ill from the formaldehyde in the woodfloors imported from China, and there was
a big to do about it.Formaldehyde's what we use when we embomb bodies,
getting ready to put them in thegrave. I mean, that's a
chemical we used to use in theanatomy lapse for dissecting. You really don't

(05:56):
want to be breathing that in.It causes cancer, headaches, asma,
skin reactions. That's a no nose, So make sure your hair relaxer does
not have formaldehyde. That's the bottomline. But see USA. This CDC
recommends ten BROYA. That's a Phfiser'smeningitis vaccine. Oh this is good,

(06:18):
you guys. I'm looking forward tothis right now. We have to give
two separate meningo cockole meningitis vaccines, one for B only letter B and one
for ACW and Y, and nowPfisers combine them. So I'm very excited.
They said anywhere from ten to twentyfive years. We usually give it

(06:39):
to sixth grade and when they goto college, so I'm excited about that.
Fox. The CDC recommends, Oh, this is interesting, you guys.
This is new doxy cycling. Youknow, the medicine we commonly use
for pitpoles and infections and things thatif you have unprotected sex and you're worried
you might get media is gonna rearsiplis. You take a two hundred milligram

(07:03):
pill within seventy two hours of havingsex, just one pill and somehow it
prevents it. That's really exciting, boy. That makes life easy. Okay,
Star Ledger, Oh yeah, thisis always fun. We do this
every year. How the hospitals rankedup in New Jersey. Who was the

(07:23):
top group this year? Let's seeInglewood, Hackensack, Jersey Shore Momouth Medical,
Marstown overlooked, Saint Mary's, Ithink in Passaica Valley Valley up in
Bergen County, very nice, allgood hospitals that those just ranked at the
top on the national ranking. Allright, let's see CNN the FDA has

(07:49):
approved the virus for kit codunia virus. You guys, when I used to
go visit my daughter in Saint Martin, that's about an hour south of Puerto
rics Go, that is the centerof the world for chicken gunget, I
was definitely agraid. I put everykind of mosquito repellent on me that I

(08:11):
could. It's spread by mosquitoes, just like den gay fever, but that
particular island, Saint Martin, wasa major major headache for both then gay
and chicken gung Yet, and I'mso glad after all these decades they had
a vac seat. Let's see.Lastly, the star Ledger Oh yeah,
New Jersey plans to stop the saleof mepothol cigarettes and cigars. You know

(08:35):
that the flavored cigarettes and cigars areattracting the the teenagers and we're trying to
do away with that. Don't goaway. There's more courageous doctors after these

(10:28):
Very good. Let's move on nowto other healthcare news. As you know,
I always start off with recalls andmy disclaimer always is that because I'm
doing this late, because it takesme a month at you to collect news.
A lot of these items in thepharmacy or your truch stores, your

(10:52):
supermarkets may have already been removed fromthe shelf. But in case some of
them are in your freezer, youstill have them. You know, it's
good to mention it, but it'sjust you know, my disclaimer is just
ask your provider, you know,if wherever you buy your stuff, if
these recalled items are still there.Okay, let's get started. There's quite

(11:15):
a few of them. See youtalked about the the FBA is banning a
lot of eye drops. Remember wetalked about this last time, the eye
drops for two years and things. In fact, when I went to my
eye doctor in the spring, heinsisted that I take the eye drops from
him because they were safe, andthat's the safest thing to get him from

(11:37):
your eye doctor. There are twentysix eye drops that are also infected,
and they may not have been removedyet, like the Leader Velocity and Rugby
Leader Velocity in Rugby may not haveremoved them, but Amazon Targets, CVS
and rite Aide said they've removed thesedrops. But be careful for eye drops.

(12:01):
I think they were mainly the eyedrops infected. Were you know,
the ones for natural tears and things. Let's see Fox News. Oh yeah
yeah. Be careful with onions,you guys, G G I L L
S. Gills onions have salmonella. And it's still all over the news about
the candle lopes with salmonilla. Everyday I see it. It's still going

(12:24):
on, so I know this isa this is a real ripe one.
This is out there now. Theyso onions with salmonilla and camp and campilopes
with salmonilla, gills, onions andcamp lopes. I got quite a few
names here. I think there's they'reconstantly finding more. But just to give
you a head start, Candy Produce, Eagle Produce, Rudy from Mexico,

(12:50):
Malechica from Mexico. They're probably ruinedthat name, Racetrack, Vineyard and Alda,
so I don't know. Just becareful with onions and cantalopes. Now,
what's this free to freako lay veggiechips. Oh oh this isn't samonela.
They have milk in them, soif you're allergic to milk, be

(13:13):
careful with free doo lay veggie chips. Let's see CNN, what's this.
Oh oh yeah, Tyson chicken nuggetshave metal pieces in it. Oh oh
yeah, this is a good one. Cinnamon, this is all over the
news. This is still current. The cinnamon baby apple sauce pouches have lead
poison. I think this morning onthe news. Up to sixty five babies

(13:37):
so far, and it's called WannaBana Schnucks Whites. There might be more
out there. Just be careful ofthese apple sauce pouches. Fox says that
seasonings seasonings for oregano have rodent fecesratpoop. So that doesn't sound good.

(14:00):
And let's see, I got somenames here, Regal or regular leaves,
Regal Italian seasoning, Regal taco seasoning, Regal herbs and garlic, Rego fahita
seasoning, Regal pasta herb, Regalherbs provence, Regal blackening seasoning. So

(14:20):
just be careful about those seasonings.Let's see Parade said, oh yeah,
this is scary. Salmonella and dogfood. Now we've had this problem before,
remember you guys, we always talkabout this. You just have to
be careful. I'm always safe forgetting one that my Vet recommends so but
Breeder's Choice Victor Super Premium, arice retriever, all life stages, Mini

(14:48):
chunk chicken. So be careful ifany of those names sound familiar to you.
Let's see. CNN says Lyesteria.Oh boy, here's the fruits,
peaches, plums, nectarines from HMCfarms. Oh man, we're being poisoned
from everyone. Hey, hey,I take my hat off to you guys.
Let's just be careful. Try tokeep up with the news and see

(15:11):
if this helps you. What's thisIn New Jersey? The FDA said,
Neptunes fix. Neptune's fix causes seizuresbecause it has opioids tight and Ti tian
neptine tian neptine tyan neptine Neptunes fix. It has an opioid closing seizures.

(15:37):
H anyway, Oh oh, oh, this is bad. Tobacco shops you
know those gas station heroin they callthem when you go to gas stations and
tobacco shops. Also, be careful. There's no heroin in your cigar or
anything. Uh. Let's see.Okay, let's move on to other news.

(15:58):
Now, don't that's worthy recalls.Let's see what's interesting. Here.
CNN says that in Baltimore, thiswas like a month or two ago,
they had a parasite in their watersupply, cryptosporidian. I believe they've cleaned
it up. That was a couplemonths ago. CNN said, Oh,
this is scary. D there's atick virus out there, very deadly.

(16:21):
It's not nearly as common as lime. I very seldom see it, but
people have died from it. It'scalled the Powissan tick virus and somebody and
Marylyn just died. So that's nogood. So if you get to pick
take it seriously, and if youget extremely ill, run to the er.
Otherwise, just coming and see usand we'll check you. For line
Independent news, We're still getting flesheating parasite leis mania. Like that's the

(16:48):
thing that looks like a worm's crawlingunder your skin. It's in the South
in Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, and it's spread by something called a sand
and fly. I guess those areflies in the beach. I don't know.
Fox says. There's flesh eating strepand flesh eating Vibrio vibrio that gets

(17:12):
into an open wind, open woundfrom the brackish water. You know where
the ocean and freshwater come together. You can also get the vibrio if you
eat raw shellfish or if you're cleaningshellfish and it gets into a cutting your
skin. So definitely the vibrio isbad and the strip is bad. Strips

(17:33):
have been really bad the last coupleof years. I've seen a lot of
nasty stuff. Let's see stat Stackreminds us of the increasing congenital syphilis.
Yeah, I've been looking with allmy babies. I haven't seen the baby
recently born with syphlis, but someof my colleagues have. So the moms,
you know, all my obstetricians aroundhere, they all check for sifless

(17:56):
and treat the moms that they haveit. Just be you. Just make
sure if you're pregnant you get testedfor siphlis. Let's see Health says that
yep lesionnaire disease is still here inMiddlesex County and Union County. That's a
bad one where you have deathly troublebreathing from breathing and contaminated ventilation systems in

(18:18):
hotels or spas or things. STATtalks on the UK they're considering using a
meningitis vaccine for gonorrhea. Well, you guys, this sort of makes sense.
I mean, gonorrhea is from thesame family as the minningo cocko meningitis,
the sixth grade shot we give inthe shop before you go to college.

(18:41):
Gonerrhea is from that same family. So I never thought about it that.
That's interesting. Just a few moreyou guys on this page, star
Ledger. Oh yeah, this isalways scary. I actually have this myself.
A lot of people have a silentreflux where if you're wake up early
in the morning or going to bedafter eating, and if the acid comes

(19:03):
up, it can actually choke youand close your airway off, give you
a horse voice, and so youtreat it just like any other gird symptom.
But I'll be honest with you,I have an eptypen with me when
I sleep, because if you wakeup and the acid gets into your larynx,
your voice box and closes off yourairway, it's really scary. Let's

(19:26):
see, Star Ledger, this wasa Northwestern study that said food allergy is
increased in babies with eggsima. Wellthat makes sense, and oh this is
interesting. Is associated with dust mightand fish and shellfish allergy. Oh hey,

(19:48):
you guys, this is interesting. So if you have if you have
a kid with EZIMA like my sonand now his son has, and they
happened to be allergic, they mayalso be allergic to dust mites and shellfish
that'll make the eggs in a worse. So that's something I'll look for you
CNN. You know, we oftenthink tell us about sleep apnea. We

(20:14):
often think about that as the guythat's snoring all night and wakes up stopping
to breathe, stopping breathing. Butthey said, you may miss the snoring
like women don't snore as much asmen. They may have like night sweats,
frequent awakenings, teeth grinding, morningheadaches. That can all be a
sign of sleep apnea. Okay, let's go on to the final subject,

(20:37):
help and safety tips. Let's see, I've got quite a few of these,
so I'll try to go through thempretty quickly. US two's eighteen dies
drinking pinerow bread charged lemonade drink. That was scary, that was heartbreaking.
That was very recent, you guys, I'm sure you all heard about this.

(21:00):
I think had a really highly caffeinateddrink and this kid was refilling because
you can refill for free or something. And the kid had a heart condition
and just kept refilling until she died. It must have put her into some
kind of a rhythm. I believeshe had prologued GT syndrome or something scary
stuff. So anyway, just becareful if you can't handle caffeine. Medical

(21:25):
Press, Penn State University. Ohyeah, this is fun. You guys
have developed a rapid test for chlamydiaand gonorrhea that you could do at your
home. So that's interesting. Andthe British are using something called a tampon
that has a PCR, you know, like we do the PCR the DNA

(21:45):
testing to detect some of the germs, like we'll swap the nose. They
can do it right on the tampon. So if the women are using a
tampon, the PCR test will showif there's chlamydia, gonorea, trick amonas,
micael plasma, and ureoplasma. Butsee Money says Money Magazine said there's

(22:08):
a recall due to choking. Ohyeah, you guys. This was actually
a Jersey company rolling candy balls andcocoa candy rolling, rolling candy balls and
cocoa candy rolling. These things getstuck in their throat. And if we
look more generally at accidents. BothNBC, CBS and the Academy talk about

(22:34):
ingesting desk magnets. You know, those will clump the gut together and the
cross of the gut and the kidshave to get operated on, or ingesting
water beads from toys, water beadsfrom toys. Also, electric scooter burns.
Those are scary, curling iron burns. That's no fun. Suffocating a

(22:57):
nursing tell, nursing pillows, suffocatingin loungers, and infant walkers. We've
talked about that in the test.Let's see Independent says, oh yeah,
you guys, please please listen tothis. This is a big thing I
talk about with all my teenagers.A twelve year old had to be put

(23:18):
into an deep induced coma after vapingdamaged the lungs and she couldn't breathe.
That's just horrible. But see Independent, Oh oh yeah, this is good.
We're not you know, it's notsummer anymore. But you know a
lot of you go into Bermuda orthe islands or things. Just because you're

(23:38):
wearing sunscreens doesn't mean you can't getskin cancer. So be careful, make
sure you put it on enough, don't overdo it, don't get like,
you know, horrible burns, anduse protective clothing and guards and they and
they recommend avoiding fanny salons. Idon't have a personal opinion on that,
but just be careful, you don'tand overdo things. Let's see cook magazine.

(24:04):
Oh yeah, yeah, it isimportant. The FBA is trying to
define dairy free labels. Like I'mallergic to dairy, so this pertains to
me. But they're suggesting you haveto read the ingredients because even a non
dairy is allowed a half of onepercent of milk protein. If you're extremely

(24:25):
allergic, that's enough to set youoff. So they said, please read
labels, make sure there's no milkin there. They'll say dairy free,
but read the label. Let's seeFox says, Oh this is fun,
you guys. Has anybody ever heardof Scandinavian sleeping. I never heard of
it. It's where when you're inbed with your partner, you're sleeping with

(24:48):
that you each have separate blankets, separate the comforters, so you can control
your own level of temperature and all. And it's interesting. You may want
to try it. I've never tried. Cook says, oh, this is
always good. Don't leave out yourcream, cheese over two hours, or
even cook turkey. I think that'sa general rule. I think most of

(25:11):
us like, For example, evenwhen I buy eggs or something, if
I have to go places after work, go to the hospital or something,
I always make sure that I wantto be home before two hours. Maybe
if it's very cold outside, itdoesn't matter. But I think that two
hour rule is standard for everything. But see what's this? Fox? Oh

(25:32):
yeah, I know you all arecareful with your car safety seats for the
babies, but the author of thisarticle just wanted to remind you tighten the
straps. And if it's a rearfacing seat, the straps should be at
or below the shoulder, at orbelow the shoulder, rear facing forward facing

(25:52):
at or above the shoulder, forwardfacing above the shoulder, rear facing below
the shoulder, and don't forget toconnect top teather strapped to the tether anchor.
And the Academy says stay the AcademyPediatric stay rear facing until the child
reaches the car seat height for theweight limit. Let's see what's this?

(26:18):
The FDA warns that a chemical Ohoh yeah, uh, there was a
chemical company that was mixing break cleanerinto hand sanitizers called hand sanitizers called Brintag
Brintag. You know, we hadso much trouble ever since COVID came out,

(26:40):
so much trouble with recalls on handsanitizers. You remember they were putting
poisonous mental alcohol which was killing people. Now break cleaners. I don't know
what's the matter with people. Whywould companies do that. Let's see,
you, guys, the last page, and we're coming to the end pretty
soon. Let's see a pendent says. There was a national Singapore study that

(27:03):
studied eye pigments in the retina. You know, some people have that disease
where they they go blind from theirretina. And they found they grapes and
carrots was helpful. I always knewcarrots. I didn't know grapes, but
now grapes is good for the eyes. But see fox says, oh yeah,
let's finish with some fun stuff.Snacks to keep you awake and alert.

(27:26):
I certainly need that. I'm alwaystired. Snacks to stay alert.
Ready to finish, you guys,Creek yogurt nuts, seeds, humus,
veggies, whole grain, crackers andcheese, apple and peanut butter. Well,
I eat some of that. Let'ssee what's this one? Oh yeah,

(27:47):
wellness. A lot of people forgetabout some of these minerals. Selenium
is very important in health. Alot of people forget about it. It's
found in like nuts, brays, nuts, and all your meats and seafood.
It's pretty common. That's why it'shard to be low. But anybody
that's taking extra I thought you getinterested in this. There's actually levels.

(28:10):
For example, the adult takes aboutfifty five micrograms daily, a little bit
more if you're pregnant. Infants willtake that dose once they're a teenager,
and then it gets less going down. For example, if you're hundred six
months old, it's fifteen micrograms, than seven months to three years old it's

(28:36):
twenty four to eight. That's yourpre K in early elementary is thirty,
and then your older kids in theelementary school, fourth, fifth and sixth
grade that's like forty. So justremember you can actually even go above that.
Those are minimal doses. Now,this is interesting. An overdose of

(28:56):
selenium gives you garlic breath are ametal taste and can affect your guts and
nerves, heart and kidneys. Soif you're going to take a Selenium,
just follow the rules and don't overdoseit. Fifty five for adults is the
top level. Let's seem foraciously.Oh, Becky Crystal, Becky Crystal,

(29:22):
she's a good nutritionists. Snacks forgluten and nut free if you're gluten free,
nut free, and you're a vegan. I don't know if you guys
have heard of this. I neverheard of it. Something called every monster
cookie, apple rings, endless adaptablecookie bars, roasted orange slices, dried

(29:45):
fruit. I eat a lot ofdried fruit, cherry vegan brownies. I'm
not sure what those are, butit sounds delicious. Chili black bean dip
that I go for bean valid.I love roasted chick beas. I eat
all that. I'm gluten free andmilk free. I can actually eat nuts,
but this is nut free also,So Becky helped us out there.

(30:06):
It sounds good. I still don'tknow what in every Monster Cookie is,
but it sounds good. Let's seeDylan Trance. He's also a good author.
If you want to increase your fiberconsider stammon stuffed avocado that sounds delicious,
vegan grain bowls with kale and quimwa, and beats black bean nacho soup

(30:30):
that sounds good, Beat avocado, humus wraps, and qema salad, chickpea,
and one more, you guys, food and nutrition. This is Jennifer
Walters. I've used all these guysin the past. I like to read
their articles. Food. Oh,this is great. You guys, listen
to this. Food to suppress yourappetite. We've never talked about this before.

(30:52):
Food to suppress your appetite. Okay, these are foods we all eat.
I had no idea that they fillyou up so you're not hungry.
Almonds, lentiles, flax seed, even coffee, Greek yogurt, ginger,
avocado, all fruits and eggs andveggie soups. Even water. Yeah,

(31:14):
well, water could fill you up. That's why we worry about the kids
not to drink too much water beforethey eat sweet potato. Yeah, that's
filling. That's why we give babysweet potato to make them sleep through the
night. Dark chocolate fills you up. Dark chocolate tofu Green tea, I
don't know green tea fills you up, cinnamon, greek yogurt, hot sauces,
and leafy green vegetables. Well, leafy greens make sense, right,

(31:38):
We all eat salads to fill usup. All right, you guys.
