healthcare topics of concern to everyone, from health and safety tips to recall notices
(00:22):
and medical news. Here's your host, doctor Barry Price Doosky. Hello,
and good to see you guys againon Courageous Doctors, the new show for
you and your doctor. It's beena while, but we try to do
these as often as we can.As always, we cover the COVID updates,
(00:46):
government regulations, Obamacare regulations and othergovernment regulations, and we try to
talk about some general interesting, newand upcoming health news. And the last
section we deal with health and safetytips. So let's begin on COVID.
Not too much new to say.Reuters reminds us that the j N point
(01:10):
one variant is now sixty percent ofthe disease. You guys, it's just
another variant. The covids are notas strong as we had a few years
ago. People are it's still strongthough. Don't kid yourself, really,
don't fool with it. Be careful. I take precautions. I still wear
mask and gloves, you know, when I'm in close contact. It's it's
(01:34):
a strong disease. You know.Talk to some of your friends that have
it. It's they may not bedying or going on ventilators, but boy,
it hurts, really hurts. Let'ssee. The Associated Press said that
the CDC has determined that the COVIDvaccine is at least fifty to fifty fifty
four percent effective. All right,Well, when they say fifty to fifty,
(01:57):
the caveat is you have to rememberwhat they mean. What they mean
is that fifty to fifty in termsof stopping you from catching the disease,
because you know you're likely to getit unless you're wearing a mask and you're
careful. But what it will do, it's very effective at keeping you out
of the hospital and keeping you fromdying. And look, you, guys,
(02:22):
I'll be honest with you. Idon't like the shot. I get
sick from it every year I gointo a chronic sinus infection. It's a
horrible shot in terms of what itdoes to you. But look, you
know, I don't want to goin the hospital or die, or you
come down with COVID and you seepeople for weeks they're not the same.
(02:43):
It's horrible. So I'm going toget the shot every year, and I'll
keep trying to push it on mypractice. Although to be honest with you,
nobody's taking it. But I'll keeptrying. Let's see helio children children
getting back to children. Children thathad two backs seenes were forty percent less
likely to be hospitalized. All right, let's move on to government regulations and
(03:07):
Obamacare. Let's see Reuter said thatwe now have with Obamacare, we're up
thirty three percent enrolled from last year, and the Washington Post put a number
on that at twenty one million. Now with the Medicaid and chip, you
know chips, the children's part ofthe Medicaid for the working not the straight
(03:31):
medicaid, but the working people whoare making a little too much for medicaid,
they're still available for children's health blamed, that's the CHIP. They're back
to nine point five million, whichis back to the pre pandemic level.
Remember we had expanded those numbers duringthe pandemic, and now they're back.
The big problem and the big scarewas that, you know, how many
(03:53):
millions of people, including children andelderly would we lose from medicaid coverage once
in the spring. The end ofthe spring, we went off emergency call
which expanded Medicaid. There was alot of problems. I got to tell
you, I saw it on myend trying to help patients, and eventually
(04:14):
I think everybody got signed backed up. But it wasn't easy. But see
the Hill. The Hill newsletter reportsthat seventy nine percent of people do not
know the costs of their treatments. That was a Bentley Gallop poll. You
all know, gallup. Yeah, you're not surprised, right, how many
times do you go to a doctor? Do you know what your treatments are
(04:36):
going to cost? I don't.I go to doctors all year. I
have no idea what it's going tocost. So I'm not surprised. KFF
Health, quoting from the American Journaland Managed Care, looking at the Inflation
Reduction Act that was passed recently inthe past couple of years, says that
by twenty twenty five, so Iguess we got another year to go.
(05:00):
You know, the Medicare party drug. I'm on Medicare, so I know
it very well. Uh, theout of pocket costs will be capped at
two thousand dollars a year. Yeah, I got to tell you my Medicare
medicines are. You know, it'sexpensive, but I have extra good plans.
I have an additional backup plan,so I'm okay. But if you
(05:21):
have straight Medicare without a secondary backupploy, you really pay. And so
that's good. It'll take another year, but they're capping that. KFF also
said that it's very interesting. Idid not notice the government will will take
away your drugs patent if the governmentfunded the making of that drug or partly
(05:46):
funded it, and now the companycomes out and has a price that's too
high. I did not know theycan do that. KFF. Again,
the Federal Trade Commission is now challengingpharmaceutical patents on drug delivery systems. Remember
last year we had a horrible problemwith the tremendous increase in price and EpiPen.
(06:13):
It was hard to get them. We'll be there a year or two
ago. I watched all the sendedhearings on it. It was just terrible.
And what happens is in order toget competition to bring these prices down,
which are astronomical, unbelievable. Whatthe company made a way of delivering
(06:34):
the drug, like through an EpiPenan injection or through like an asthma and
hailer. Those involved actual mechanical deliverysystem. So if a company says I'm
the only one that can use thatsystem, then they're screwing everybody else that
wants to compete with them. Sothe Federal Trade Commission challenged that and said
(06:55):
that you've got to share the deliverysystem. You can have your own drue,
but you can't, you know, claim full control of the delivery system.
In fact, GSK GSK I usea lot of their products with through
their patent on their asthmen hailer andam nail as we were saying with true
their patent on e ftipens. Butsee MPR News says that the Environmental Protection
(07:20):
Agency proposed a ban on the pfasthe Forever Chemical s all that plastic craft.
They proposed the band. Let's seeif the band goes into effect.
You know, we're all drinking thisstuff, you guys. I'll mention it
a little bit later, but we'reeating and drinking all these plastics. It's
tiny. He gets in their lungs, their body with hell knows what it's
(07:41):
doing to us. Boy, whata world we live in. I think
back to the fifties and people talkabout it being polluted and eating too much
fat and all. But boy,at loose, we could drink water and
have clean air to breathe anyway. They EPA's working on that. Money talks
about the Money newsletter. The FDAplants to band for maldehyde and hair relaxes.
(08:07):
Oh, come on, give mea break. Who the hell's going
to put for maldehyde. That's whatyou put on dead bodies when you're in
an anatomy lab or in a funeralpollor that's what goes in floors that we're
trying to get rid of, becausethose floors were giving people headaches and making
them pass out and even reported cancerbreast over reuterus cancer. Oh the hell's
(08:28):
going to put that stuff in theirhair. That's unbelievable. So you know,
you guys, please, if you'reusing hair relaxures whatever they are,
I don't even know what they are, please check and make sure it doesn't
have formaldehyde in it. Unbelievable. The FDA is warning about copycat eye drops.
Yeah, you know, we're stillhaving this problem that's been ongoing.
(08:50):
I've reported I think the last newssegment as well, that you know,
there's some of these drops were infectedand people are trying to make drops that
sound like that for the same company, but they're not and they're also infected.
So I always say, you know, if you're using a drug,
(09:13):
make sure it's the real company's drugs, and that's some cheap crap infected they're
thrown in there, you know, make sure it's the real drug. He
Call your eye doctor, Call yourdoctor, call your pharmacists. I always
double check with a pharmacist on allmy drugs, you know, especially things
coming over from India and China.I want to know it's just something pulled,
(09:33):
is it contaminated, is it real? And in fact, when I
was at my eye doctor last year, while he was examining my eyes,
I said, you know, Ineed some artificial tears. I said,
you know, I'm having you know, sore eyes and things. And I
said, but I'm a little worriedbecause of the infection and the tears he
said, He said, Barry,I only get the drops from me.
(09:54):
I don't trust drops anywhere. I'llgive you the drops if you need him.
And he gave me some drugs.Nice mold. All right, let's
see Star Ledger the all. It'sa nice family lead, you know.
The governor increased the family lead fromsix to twelve weeks and up to eighty
five percent of the of your wagesthat you're paid. In other words,
(10:16):
up to eight hundred and fifty ninedollars cap or if it's less than that,
eighty five percent of whatever you're paidto get continue paid. You can
continue to get paid, and itwould allow you to take care of not
just like your spouse or your child, but any family member you're taking care
of. And the workers are actuallypaying for this and a tax, unemployment
(10:39):
tax or something whatever the taxes thestates set up. What they're trying to
do now is right now, it'sonly if we're very good. In my
office, even though we only haveless than ten workers, we always let
people take off. We never youknow, fire them or anything. But
according to the law, it's onlyif you have thirty plus workers. So
(11:00):
there it's now in the Senate,in the state Senate, and they're trying
to work it through or the stateHouse. I mean they're trying to work
it through to do it for smallercompanies. So we'll see if that goes
through or not. But I thinkit's a good idea. Let's see.
Star. Ledger says that the carePatient Health System. I don't know if
you guys know about this. There'sall kind of mergers going on. I
(11:22):
know, it's hard to keep upwith. There's three hospitals in Hudson County.
They're part of the care Patient HealthSystem. They're going to merge with
Hudson Regional, which used to bethe Meadowlands on Route three. But see
star. Ledger also said that theFDA, Oh this is very nice.
That proves a sickle cell gene therapy. We're all excited about that. Any
(11:43):
of you have spent forty years takingcare of sicklers and watching them in horrible
pain. I'm just so happy thatwe're finally coming through with gene therapy.
And CNN says that we also haveone for being the foul Toole's see star
Ledger again. US News and WorldReport lists to top hospitals for delivering babies.
(12:05):
Oh yeah, this is a longlist. I didn't want to include
them all, but basically it's mostof our larger hospital systems in the state
and many smaller ones don't go away. There's more courageous doctors after these messages.

Courageous Doctors continues with doctor Barry priceTowski. All right, onto other
(14:00):
healthcare news, moving right along.I always start with recalls, and remember
my disclaimer. This new show isdone usually after the fact, although some
of it's ongoing. Just be careful. Ask your pharmacy, ask your place
where you shop for food, orwherever you get these products. Just ask
(14:22):
them if they were on the recalllist, and hopefully they've already been removed.
Let's go through them quickly read themask star Ledger mentioned that salmonella salmonella
very bad diarrhea illness is in bussettofood shark couteries, the charcuterie, So
(14:43):
this is actually more than the boussetta. It's been reported in many many others.
Anything prepackaged with prescudo sweets, thisas sweets, up risa, dry
copa, any of those dried meatsand cheeses that are packaged. I'm sure
you've been singing on the news.I'm still singeing new ones being found.
Just stumble check that it's not oneof the ones recalled. We're still getting
(15:07):
salmonella from the candalope coming over fromMexico. Mexico. That was Melakita or
ruby, and I think Canada wasthe first to report on that. We're
getting a lot of like steria reports. You guys, I'm sure you're singing
on the news. This one Ihave written down as Kotecha cheese, Risota
and cass cazo at Trader Joe's,Costcos and Whole Foods. But some of
(15:31):
these seeds are mixing in with saladslike some of the meats. So anything
prepatches, salads, meat packaging, salad dressing at any of these places,
you know, just please check itout and see if it's poison. Remember
we were having like stereia and avocados, and I was worried that that was
gonna hurt us on Senko DeMeo lastyear to make you know, the avocado
(15:56):
drink. But we're still being reportedand again avocados and everything. So there
I have written down here bean dips, taco kits, chicken, Enchilada,
Cilantra, salad dressing, dairy products, Weisel, Lopez Food, many other
companies, just anything put together withavocados. I think even potatoes were infected
(16:21):
at one point. Anything. Justmake sure nothing's recalled. I do whenever
I go shopping, anything I buythat's wrapped in a package or anything,
I'm always double checking if it's recalled. Fox News we're back to Ecoa with
ground beef patties. It's horrible, you know, that's from the cow's pooping
(16:41):
in it and everything that's valley meats. We got lysteria in Bright Farms,
spinach salad salmonella and Quaker oats, cereals and bars. That was a big
one. I don't know if quakeerOats got to handle on it. But
be honest with you guys, Ithrew a way home my Quaker oats.
(17:02):
I just threw them all away.Independent News says the new tramagen is infected
again. Yeah, we we tookall our new dramage and off the shelf.
I think it's the powder, butI'm not sure if they fixed that.
Oh you guys, remember this, this was a few months ago.
Remember I'm laid home reporting chromium andlead was in these Wanna Bana apple sauces,
(17:25):
these apple sauce pouches for babies.Terrible bone fragments were found in Turkey
Kilbasa Parkview, Turkeys. Fox saysthe neuro virus is in raw Mexican oysters.
Yeah, you guys been major reportsin the news. I'm sure you've
seen it. Telling people don't needraw oysters if you go to Mexico.
(17:48):
Wegmans says that the oat cookies haveundeclared allergens. Uh dried Mango Golden Owl.
It just says dry Mango Golden Owlcompany. The sulfites were not listed.
If you're allergic to sulfa money watch, uh said the narcoalects, narcolepsy
(18:11):
drugs, Zanzeta and add drugs weremislabeled and actually contained an anti histamine.
So you're trying to wake up theperson narcolepsi, you fall asleep and you
give them an anti histamine and putthem a sleep. That was az Avd
pharmacy. They put the wrong drugin the thing. Oh boy. Neptunes
(18:33):
fixed products elix here and tabs elixhere and tabs have tie tie. You
know that tayan teen I can't sayItalian Talian neptine. They called the gas
station heroin. So if you're ifyou're eating any Neptunes products, just check
(18:55):
it out. Uh. Okay, let's mention some other healthcare news. Those
were the recalls I found for touchashooping coughs back in New York. You
know, the insurance company gives mea rough time, the emergency rooms wonder.
You know, they just don't believeme. But I'm on the border
with Bergen County in New York, and you know we get positive hooping coughs.
(19:18):
The state Department of Health doesn't believeme, But you know, I
don't know why I don't believe me. It's all over New York, it's
all over the news, and yetthey wonder why patients walk into my office
with hooping cough. But insurance companies, you know, they always fight me
on it, using antiboutic for hoopingcough. But you know, hooping coft's
not pretty. It's not you know, and I hope they take it seriously.
(19:41):
Now that's why do you guys rememberwhen adults started getting instead of just
the theoria tetanus every ten years,we get the theory of tetanus adult form
of hooping cough every ten years,So we're we're getting that baby hooping cough
and in a out format every tenyears. It's because we're all walking around
(20:03):
with hooping cough, which can causean adults a chronic cloth and of course
can make a baby extremely sick. They can die from it. So you
know, it's not a pretty thing. So I help the insurance companies in
the emergency rooms stop wondering why thisoffice on the border of Berg County in
New York City is seeing protesters,But it's all over the news. Maybe
(20:27):
if the insurance company turns on theTV. Maybe they'll leave me alone.
Let's see measles in Philly. Yeah, measles. Remember every couple of years
we get that damn measles coming back. Boy, that's a tough one.
You guys, get your shots, please, just get the damn shot.
CDC warms warns warns about is warningabout rocky mounted spotted fever in Mexico.
(20:51):
Yeah, that was on the news. Not only eating bad oysters that are
raw, Rocky mounted spotted fever. It's a tick disease similar to the line.
But you can kill you and makeyou very sick. You don't want
to. You know. There's novaccine for it that I know. I'm
just if you get sick and youjust went to Mexico, get treated right
(21:12):
away. The FDA is seizing fakeozemtic. You know, you guys,
this has been a major problem. You know I hear from patients every day.
Give me the damos empic drug.I want to lose weight, take
away my appetite. You know whatdid we all do for one hundred years
before this magical drug. You knowit's a diabetes drug for crying out loud
(21:33):
and have side effects. You canhit your kidney and all over all the
organs in your body. You know, why would you take a drug that's
a diabetic drug if you didn't needit just to lose weight? You know,
we always have these weight losing Iremember when people used to want to
get that drug that poison the liver, that stopped your appetite, you know,
and then they were wanting to takespeed to stop your appetite. And
(21:56):
I had all this craft, butyou know, I just refer them to
the end of chronologist. I justsay, look, if you're going to
use a diabetes drug, go tothe diabetes specialist and let him prescribe it.
I'm not going to fool with that. But now they even have fake
ones. You don't even know whatyou're using anymore. So I don't know.
(22:17):
That stuff always scares me anyway.Let's see, do you know the
dots cyclan we reported on last time. I'm sure I reported it where you
can take one pill after sex andit would protect you from a sexually transmitted
disease if you took it within threedays. Well, this report said that
(22:38):
it didn't work so well, butit's reported to work. But I'm just
not sure if people actually took it, but I don't know if I would
trust taking one drug in a situationof unprotected sex. Well, don't you
just do protected sex and make surewho you're having sex with? But I
guess that'd be too simple. Let'ssee home colon cancer kits. One out
(23:00):
of ten either weren't used right orit didn't work. There's a new Alzheimer
blood tests. You know how wealways look for the amyloid intel protein.
They're trying to look for that inthe blood to see if one day you're
going to lose your mind with Alzheimer. Scary stuff, you guys. I
don't know if those tests are outyet. CDC wants doctors to draw blood
(23:23):
for those pfas prosticts. I don'tknow how to do it, you know,
you guys. I've tried many times. I've been doing this show forty
years. I've tried many times toget more in the in depth toxicology reports
to see how we're all being poisoned. The most I can get is your
common heavy metal leads, Cadmy andMercury, you know, the heavy metal
(23:45):
stuff. I don't know how toget these complicated tests, and I'm sure
they're very expensive to take weeks,if not months to come back. I
don't know who's going to pay forthem. But I don't know why they're
asking me to do it when I, you know, go to a toxicology
just I don't even know how toorder this thing. Let's see New York
Times. Well, this is interesting, you guys. The gd F one
(24:07):
five. GDF one five, that'sthe hormone that closes nausea in pregnancy.
I didn't know it. Maybe they'llhave a drug for it. And lastly,
MedPage today the infant and child,Oh, children, infants and children's
blood pressure. You know, we'realways measured blood pressure that can actually predict
caronary artery plats being formed. I'llbe honest with you, guys, my
(24:32):
dad was saying this. My dadwas the first pediatric cardiologist in Jersey.
He opened up and started the children'shospital and cardiology and the whole bit.
And I remember Dad, way backin the eighties when I started with him,
he was always lecturing on about childrenhaving cardiac plaques already with the heavy
(24:56):
diets we used to back in theseventies and eighties, fifties and A yeah,
he was always talking about that.So that was right all along.
I'll let's go to the last section. I know this is a little more
lengthdy than usual, but this wouldbe very quick on helping safety tips and
we'll end with some fun things aboutfood. Not too many of you guys
(25:18):
were almost done. CNN says thatthe zen zyn, what the hell is
that? I don't know? Zyn sounds like a meditation nicotine chewing tobacco,
So the kids are actually easy, adding no kids were chewing tobacco.
Holy moly, Star Ledger again,Remember we said we've mentioned this. I
(25:42):
knew it was at the end ofthe program that bottled water has plastic.
Senate Rutgers in Columbia did the researchand University of Toronto with an ocean conservation
group founded in all our food andvegetables fish. Yeah, we're all full
of this plastic crap. But Idon't know how to measure for it.
(26:04):
They said it's a blood test.I don't know how to do it.
I'm sure it's very expensive. NedPage Today says the FDA, if you
think you're taking to cot roots te jo co ote tg cody root,
I'm sure I'm just pronouncing it.They said that these roots have been substituted
(26:26):
by a poison toxic yellow oleander. So just make sure you know what you're
taking. Let's see. Uh yeah, we've talked in the past about mercury.
Remember, we don't like pregnant womenand children poison with mercury. The
mercury is usually in the large fish. They actually get numbers. This is
(26:48):
why I'm mentioning because this is new. I didn't notice that you're allowed to,
like, say, tuna fish orsomething like that. You're if you're
pregnant, you're allowed to eat eightto twelve ounces of fish per week.
If you're a little child one tothree years old, only an ounce.
(27:10):
If you're already nursery school, kindergartentwo ounces, you know, middle early
education eight to ten three ounces, and if you're a teenager eleven over four
ounces. So it actually limits theamount of fish you can eat. I
like a lot of fish. Idon't know if I totally agree with this.
(27:32):
I think if it's a fish thathas a lot of mercury in it,
but it's a even if it's alow mercury fish, if it has
any mercury in if they want youto limit the amount you eat a lot
of Jesus eat fish. It doesn'thave mercury anyway. Here's the ones that
are high in mercury it wants youto avoid. I don't need any of
these, to be honest with you, King mackerel, marlin, sharks,
(27:56):
swordfish, golf tilefish aren't ruffy, and big eye tuna. I don't need
any of those used et sortfish. So I'm probably glowing with mercury from decades
ago, but I don't need these. Let's see what's this, Oh,
star Ledger is warning against the useof e electric scooters. E scooters.
(28:23):
They said nobody less than sixteen shoulduse them. A lot of accidents and
burns. Okay, let's end withtwo quick things. You guys. I
know it's a lengthy thing. Ipromise we're going to end on a high
note. One of my favorite authorsI frequently quote his stuff in the news,
Dylan Evans, has some high proteindinners with any inflammatories. For example,
(28:49):
chicken, stamon, tofu, mushrooms, lntos, kale, broccoli,
carrot, sweet potatoes, all goodstuff that I'm sure we all eat.
So he gives you a few ideas. He gives you like cream, turkey
and rice, soup, kale andlentils, stool with sew with potatoes,
chicken chili with sweet potato. Andyou can also have a roasted chicken or
(29:14):
a lemon chicken, or a honeygarlic chicken, crock pot chicken dumplings never
heard of? That sounds good.Lamon beef with yogurt and spinach. That
sounds delightful. Salmon with orzo andbroccoli. I never go to that.
Cajun tofu coastados with beets and meatlooaks. And lastly, Antarasinha gives us
(29:38):
some after school snack ideas. Theseare fun, you guys. I'll just
mention a few and moll in brownbanana nut muffins sounds sound jummy. Sweet
potato fries with dips. I likethat nutella brownies. I know my daughter
would love that. Crispy tofu nuggets, coconuting, crispy chickpea trail mix,
(30:03):
tomato chili popcorn. Oh, thatsounds great. Oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are
always good in peanut butter, rice, crispy treats. All right, you
guys, I enjoyed this. Itwas a little more linkedy than usual,
but hopefully we'll be back sooner thanlater. As always, if you're welcome
to sub, make comments and I'llshare on the next show, and please
(30:25):
