healthcare topics of concern to everyone, from health and safety tips to recall notices

(00:22):
and medical news. Here's your host, doctor Barry Pricetosky. Hello, and
welcome to Courageous Doctors, the newsshow for you and your doctor. On
this show, we'll review updates inCOVID news, health regulations, other interesting

(00:44):
healthcare news, and we'll end withhealth and safety tips. It's good to
start. Good to see you again. It's been I saw you at the
beginning of the summer and now I'llsee you at the start of the fall.
Let's begin with COVID updates. Accordingto the Star Ledger, the new
variant the XBB eg point five,BA two point eight six, et cetera.

(01:07):
They're all on the micron variants thatwe have. The new vaccine which
we're all waiting for. It's beenapproved and uh it's come out. I
have it for the I have itin my office, but I'm still waiting
for the hospitals to get it sowe can get it there. And the

(01:30):
only thing that's changed is it's nowit's a single shot. I mean it's
a it's one shot, and itonly has the the new variants. It
doesn't have all the other ones.It just has the new microns. It
doesn't have the old ones like lastyear we had bi Valiant head Boat and

(01:52):
it's only one shot. You needif you're under five years old and it's
the first time you're getting this shot, like in my office pediatric office,
then we have to give two orthree shots, depending if it's visor or
MODERNA. But if you're over fiveyears old, and even if it's the
first shot, it's only one shot. So this is great. We're going

(02:14):
to start giving that and the COVIDmass protocols and some hospitals are started.
I'm not wearing masks again in thehospitals when I make rounds, and I
believe even some schools are wearing masks. Okay, let's go on to Obama
Care government regulations. CNN. There'sa the FDA has recalled a certain rapid

(02:42):
tests used for pregnancy, and they'recalled urine strips. It's Universal Meditech one
step pregnancy tests. There's a coupledifferent names hCG Pregnancy Tests, PRESSTE,
Bio pregnancy opulation, UTI keytones.Anyway, they're all recalled, So if

(03:07):
you have that rapid thing for pregnancy, please check and see if it's one
of the recall. Independent news. This is interesting. It is removing the
label that says child friendly packaging, which is appeals to young children. It's

(03:27):
removing it on cereals that have highsugar, high fat, and high salt.
So I haven't noticed this myself.I'll have to start looking on the
shelves. But you know, thosereally sugary cereals, they're not supposed to
say child friendly on the package.I didn't even know. I don't even
know about that. So off tocheck and see if the cereals still say

(03:52):
it. But the study that wasdone said that half of the cereals and
two thirds of the yogurts contain alot of sugar, like one third of
your daily requirement. Interesting. Okay, let's move on to other health news
now. As usual, when Istart with recalls and my disclaimer always is

(04:17):
that I'm doing this news show late. It takes me a month or two
to collect the information. So alot of these things may have already been
recalled. This might be old news, but anyway, just check with your
store, pharmacy, whatever it is, and just make sure it's still good
what you have in your refrigerator.Okay, the eye drops continue to be

(04:40):
a problem. We had talked inthe past about Ezra care and dealt in
artificial tears. Now it's light ias drops and doctor burns MSM drops.
These things have fungus and pseudomonas init, and people are going blind.
So please check your eye drops andmake sure what your doctor they're good.

(05:04):
Kroger frozen vegetables had a listeria scare, so check your vegetables from Kroger make
sure they're good. Fox News saidthere was plastic in Congra frozen chicken strips
Congra frozen chicken strips. CBS saysthat real kosher ice cream as lysteria.

(05:29):
The worth Worth World Health Organization saidthat the cough medicines made in India have
ethylene glycol you know, like thestuff you put in windshow wipers or stuff.
Anyway, it killed kids and poisonthem. I don't know if the
Indian Kaugh medicine is over here, but just be sure your medicine doesn't come

(05:50):
from India. Reuters said that Baxterinfusion pumps had problems, and let's see
Phillips baby monitors. You know thosethings that sound when you're watching your baby
sleep at night. Apparently the batteriesare overheating. Oh boy, that's no

(06:15):
good. Fox says the Fisher Pricerocking play Incline Iffin sleepers. Those were
recalled, but some people still havethem. Let's see Trader Joe's said that
broccoli with cheddar soup has insects init. Oh yuck, not good,

(06:38):
not good. I can't believe what'sgoing on. Let's see two more.
Trader Joe's also says they're multi greencrackers with some flower and flax seeds have
mettle in it. Unbelievable. Foxsays that certain dog food had sound manella.
I think it was called Victors superpre so annyway. Just check on

(07:01):
that. All right, Let's moveon, Star Ledger. The new RSV
baby shots are supposed to be here. The bay Fortis is the name of
the shot. I don't know Wedon't have them yet, but they're supposed
to come out and hopefully we'll haveless RSV. Which was a horrible season
last year, really terrible. Let'ssee, Virginia had an outbreak the meningitis.

(07:28):
Anybody going down to Virginia check thatout. Maryland has malaria, malaria
mosquitoes in Maryland. Oh lord, what's happening? Star Ledger tick diseases on
the rise. And remember we spokeabout in the past, there's that allergy
syndrome where if you have a tickbite and eat red meat, you can

(07:53):
like drop dead. It's really scary. So you just have to make sure
if you have a tick bite thatyou don't have the allergy syndrome that goes
with it. Let's see grain freedog food, grain free dog food as
increased peas that some dogs got heartdisease. I think the vets are not

(08:18):
sure about this, but just checkwith your vet if it's okay. The
grain free dog food. I'm notsure why. They thought. Maybe the
increased green peas had something to dowith it. It was a cardio myopathy
in dogs, but again I thinkthey're not sure about that. Oh this
is bad. Valley fever my sonlives in California. Valley fever, we

(08:41):
used to say is in the Southwest. You know where the deserts are.
ARISONA, ARISONA. Maybe you knowNew Mexico, but now it's spreading up
through California. That's a bad fungusdisease. When you get it in your
lung, it takes like a yearof medicines to get rid of it.
It's really really painful. Florida hasleprosy, but so there's a lot of

(09:03):
other states. I didn't know thatNew York art consul California, Hawaii,
Louisiana, Texas. I didn't knowthat we have leprosy are out. They
say you need a lot of prolongedcontact to get it. You know,
leprosy is that disease where you havedeformities on your skin. Shagas disease is

(09:26):
here. It used to be justSouth America, now it's here. That's
a parasite clot from the kissing bug. It damages the heart and gut,
but can take decades before that happens. I don't even know how to look
that up, to be honest withyou, I've always read about that,
but I wouldn't even know how tosuspect Shagat's disease. I guess the cardiologists.

(09:48):
No, don't go away. There'smore courageous doctors after these messages.

(11:37):
oh yes, this is a bigthing. Now. Do you know all
our decongestions over the counter have fenelepprin instead of pseudofed. Theseudofets a prescription
like if I want to write forsudofeed either alone or combined within antihistamy it's
a prescription. If I or ifI just tell you go get something for
your colof over the counter or yourallergies, the decongest that would be phenolefferent.

(12:01):
There's now a big hoodo about it, trying to say that it's not
working anymore, and they're thinking aboutthey're asking to have it removed. I
don't know what they're going to do, but I guess that means I'll just
write more prescriptions for the suit effect. Let's see Health Day. Oh,
this is wicked Jamestown Kenyon virus. These are horrible things. It's you know,

(12:26):
like the west Now virus. Youget sepholitis terribly ill is it's just
another one, another mosquito virus. And Leslie NBC, the CDC is warning
that a weight loss supplement has thepoisonous yellow oleander in it. Oh my
god, you don't even know whatto do anymore. Well, you guys,

(12:50):
just be careful if you buy anythingthat we're losing weight, just be
careful if it has this yellow oleanderin it. Right, Uh, we're
almost done. Let's move on tohealth and safety tips and uh, this
is a little longer segment, butsome good stuff here. Oh, my

(13:13):
god, here we go again withthat pick doot corrupt. A team dies
eating an ultrue, ultrust spicy hotpepper called pack packy chip Pa two ui,
which is like five times the amountof spice and a pepper, and

(13:33):
and he died eating it. Soh they should get rid of that,
that horrible scary stuff on that thattop pick or whatever hell it's called.
People are just died and dropping deadwith that thing. Anyway, It just
don't follow it. I mean,I mean it's I'm sure it's a great

(13:56):
service. People like it, butyou still do anything stupid and you want
die, you know. Anyway, let's see. CNN says the Consumer Product
Commission has recalling Zippity Kids convertible housebed frames and Montessori floor beds because their

(14:20):
strangulation with entrapment in the bedrails. So the kids are dying, they're being
choked to death. And the ZippityKids convertible house bed frame and Mansouri floorbed
Oh boy. NBC warns us thatnursing pillows are causing guests the babies are

(14:41):
suffocating. And here's one. Foxsaid that the water beat kit called Chuckle
and War Chuckle and War War ROAArUltimate water beads activities. Kid, they're
choking on it. Let's see what'sthis Health Live HCP Live. The FDA

(15:05):
is warning that ultra violet wands wA A nds ones that disinfect you know,
surfaces that somehow you're getting radiation burnsfrom. I don't even know what
an ultra violet wand is, butit's giving burns, so be careful.

(15:28):
What else, let's see CNN Themarijuana smoke lung inflammation professor at University of
Cala, Michigan looked at this. The tars and toxins from marijuana in the
lung are very bad. We callit like like baking line. You know,

(15:50):
well that's bathing, but it's marijuanaand all the same stuff anyway,
star Ledger, Oh now we getsome fun stuff. Okay, So insect
pellants, did you guys know this? Thirty percent beat last for five hours.
That's great, thirty percent, Soget to thirty percent, twenty percent

(16:12):
by carradin, by carradin last twelvehours, thirty to forty percent lemon you
calypt this oil last six hours. So those are good ones. Now there's
ones that are also safe but notproven citronella, geranium, peppermint, and
soybean oil. They're safety years butnot proven. By the way the lemon

(16:37):
you calypt this, you have tobe over three years old in order to
use it. Let's see. Oh, here's a fun thing. Isabel Vasquez
reminds us of potassium foods. Oh, it's great. I need potassium every
day. I try to get abanana or some foods with potassium. So
did you guys know what foods ofyour daily potassium? Bella says dried fruits.

(17:00):
I eat a lot of that, lake ooms, gairy soy meat,

Let's see you get some examples.Dried apricots, prunes, raisins,
juices, prunes, carrots, passion, fruit, tomatoes, pomegranates, all

(17:22):
