Hello, everyone, welcome to anotherepisode of Creators to Creators. Today,
today we have a special guest,Ali Fitz. Hey, guys, Hey
everybody, guys, Welcome, Welcome. I'm excited to chat with you.
I I'm I checked out your workand I'm like, wow, super super
(00:45):
talented, beautiful and you know allthe things. Uh, tell me a
little bit about Yeah, about yourchildhood, Like you know, I always
say, like our childhood kind ofcharge our trajectory, our little little habits
that we pick up, you knowwhen you know our kids. How did
how was your childhood and how didyou get into this industry? Yeah?
(01:08):
So my dad was a really bigpart of the music scene in my house
that he would buy, like heused to play the trumpet when he was
little, So he was in musictoo. But he would buy us like
these guitars and these pianos and stuffto play with for Christmas and birthdays,
so we pretty much had music allthe time. And he would also blast
like his music on the radio, like every Sunday stuff while we're cleaning.
(01:30):
So I always had some music therein my life. And then throughout school
and elementary I played the flute fromlike elementary to graduating high school. So
I played the flute for years soI could read music and it's like I
know what sounds the best, youknow, Yeah, and so I kind
of have always been in the musicscene. Oh and also in high school,
(01:52):
I tried out for musicals and stuffand I was in like two of
them, I think, yeah, two or three I forget, but I
was in some musicals in high schooltoo, and then that really made me
want to go into theater when Iwent to college. So I went to
Write State University and studied theater studiesfor my major. And so that's really
(02:15):
what got me into it. Veryvery cool, awesome. So you know,
I read your bio and you know, you have like a bunch of
followers all over social media, withlike ten million followers, you know,
combined. What inspired you to transitioninto music full time as like asual,
Well, yeah, I always wantedto do music, that was the end
(02:39):
goal, but for some reason, the comedy thing happened first. So,
like when Vine came out in twentyfourteen, it was like the six second
app where you post like these shortclips that could be funny, they could
be serious, it could be anythingyou wanted. And so I got on
there and I started watching like myfavorite celebrities at that time, because they
would just post what they were doingin their life. And then like they
(03:00):
were just people with regular names, like I've never heard of, and I'm
like, but why do they haveone hundred thousand followers and so many likes?
Like they're just normal people. AndI'm like, well, if they
can do it, me too.It was like before influencer was a thing,
and so I'm like, it wasjust like YouTubers at that time,
and so I was like, well, let me just create an account and
start posting videos too, And sothat's what I did, and it took
(03:23):
a while to actually blow up,Like I was posting every day and get
like one like and it'd be likedang, okay, the next one so
I would go into the hashtags andeverything that people were doing, and I
would like enter contests, and that'skind of how I blew up. And
then I posted one big video aboutmy dog like play biting me, and
everybody thought it was funny, andso that's what really blew me up and
(03:45):
got me the followers. And Iwas like, Okay, well now I
got this support, maybe I canlike use it to step into what I
really wanted to do. It's justsinging, and so I started putting out
like songs, my very first realsong in twenty seventeen, and people are
like, oh, wow, shecan see that's really really cool. Yeah,
no, that's really cool. Ilove I love that. I remember
(04:05):
I think when I first started YouTube, when YouTube was good, I say
it was like back in like twothousand and six or five. Yeah,
that was one of the early birds, and I was like, man,
it's it was great. But now, I mean now it's really hard to
like get on YouTube and like getthose news because it's so saturated now,
so so many people. Yeah.So with your latest track, when We're
(04:31):
Together, was inspired by the HBOseries Euphoria, he said, can you
share like more about you? Knowhow that the show influenced your music and
like how that was, like thathappened. Yeah, So my producer and
director of the video, his nameis Darius. Shout out to Darius.
He was like, I think itwould be so cool if we like got
(04:55):
some euphoria vibes from the show intothe music video. And I was like,
what do you mean? And hewas, it's like the lighting,
for example, is always like thedark, pinkish like party scene kind of
thing, so I want to dothat and I'm like, okay, I
like the way that looks, andso he added that in the video and
then he's like, also the partyscene, like just we were at a
party for the majority of the videoand that's also euphoria a big part of
(05:17):
it. Yeah, so that's that'smostly what we used to grab like inspiration
from Nice. Yeah. Yeah,I mean it's a great show, fantastic
yeah, and it just gosh.I mean I have a cinematography background,
so I loved how it looked thevisual visuals and I could totally see the
(05:39):
music video like how everything was inspiredby that and just like the whole vibe.
It's it's really really cool how youguys did that. Yeah. In
the close up shots too, Iforget. Oh yeah, definitely. How
involved are you when it comes to, you know, creating your music.
Are you like in the like you'rein the room with a producer, like
you're looking over everything. Are youlike, Yeah, well, when we
(06:02):
start, when we start doing creatingthe music, I'm in there when we
create the beat because I want tomake sure it sounds the way I'm seeing
it because I already have like songswritten and I'm like, I need to
make sure the beat goes with it. And so, like, there's a
song I currently wrote and I waslike, this is how I want to
beat. So I'm gonna have tosit in there and they're going to just
go through with me and then we'lljust record it because I already have the
(06:26):
lyrics and stuff. So it's thisone will be a lot easier than creating
a song from scratch because we'll bein there like all day because we'll do
like the music, we'll do thelyrics. We have to write the lyrics
and then figure out the melody allof that. So yeah, I love
that, love that. That's awesome. You mentioned that your previous songs were
(06:46):
empowering for women and focusing on theindependence. But yeah, it's just curious.
So what made you switch the switchgears and write a love like different
type of song. Yeah, sorecently, a couple of years ago,
I got two relationships and so likethat kind of changed, right, that
kind of changed like a lot ofyou know how I was writing the songs
(07:09):
because before, I like to writethe revenge like I'm gonna be a bad
bee, so like you're gonna missme kind of songs. But this song
this time, I'm like, oh, maybe that's not how I'm feeling right
now. I'm just gonna write cutelittle love songs. I love that,
and that's beautiful. I just I'mI'm all about women empowerment. I'm all
about and I think it's great. And I think women can still be empowered
(07:30):
and have a and have a boot. I hear so that it's a wonderful,
wonderful thing. Do you do youdo you feel like women are taken
seriously? Uh? In this business? Like as far as like staying on
this trope of like empowered women women? Uh, do you do you feel
like women are are like aren't takenseriously in the music world? And and
(07:55):
how do you is it changing forthe better? I feel like women for
the most part in the music industryare taken I guess seriously. But I
think when it comes to being acreator first, like an influencer or whatever,
and then switching to music, you'renot very taken seriously. Like people
are like, is she making aparody or is she like joking around?
(08:18):
Is this a real thing? Peoplewon't believe that you want to switch to
music. Like when an influencer wantsto do something other than creating funny videos,
they're always it's never like support rightoff the bat, Like you have
to get them to trust you thatyou put out good stuff. It's not
just a quick cash grab. SoI would say, yeah, like you're
treated differently when you're an influencer first. But I feel like in the music
(08:41):
industry pop girls. Maybe in therap industry, it might be different.
When pop singers, I feel likethey're everything's like treated differently or the same.
Interesting. Yeah, I don't reallyknow too much about the music world,
but I do know the film worldand cinema wise. It's it's still
a fight, so you know,it's an uphill battle, but but we're
(09:03):
working, you know, and I'mnot saying I hate men. I definitely
work with men. Okay, youknow it's like right, it's just like
I don't know, it's just likeI think women, uh, we we
have to prove ourselves all the time, and I think minutes a little easier
(09:24):
to just you know, they cango away and come back and it's like
hey, you know, it's likeit's like true. And then when the
girls come back, they like scrutinizetheir their comeback music and they're like,
I don't like this. It's likewhy, yeah, it's and that's the
thing I think. I I youknow, I think we all work together.
And I think if if women wereif the roles were reversed, right,
(09:46):
if women were on top and menwere you know what I mean,
I think things would be a littledifferent. Right. So how do you
manage all those social media sites?Like, I mean, it's a lot
to keep up with, Like nowadays, you know, everything is there's so
many like music, you know, have attention span now that like this generation
(10:09):
now, it's like you have tostay up with the trends. Like how
do you do it right? Well, I usually have a schedule of what
I post, so like on YouTube, I will post once a week now.
I used to post every day,but that was so much work,
I know. I just recently waslike, you know what, no,
and so I post on YouTube oncea week. I try to post at
(10:30):
least one TikTok every day. SoI just kind of create a schedule post
something at least something a day.Except for on YouTube, with like the
short form content and like stories onInstagram and Snapchat, you just try to
be present at least like once andevery like two hours, just to show
that you're there. It's crazy, but yeah, and then not only do
(10:50):
you have to have a schedule, you have to like make sure you balance
that with real life because you wantto go out to eat, hang out
with friends. And I'm also astreamer, so I'm like, dang,
I stream from like seven o'clock tolike ten some most nights. So yeah,
so I got to make sure ifI'm doing stuff to either tell the
(11:11):
people I'm not gonna be on liveor figure out how to work around the
schedule. It's just yeah, yeah, that sounds like a lot. So
it's definitely a full time job.It is. People are like you just
get on take pictures. I'm likeit's not just that I'm part of it,
but yeah, yeah, people onlyknew like the work that goes into
(11:33):
uh, you know, being youknow yourself and being who you are.
It's it's definitely work, but Ithink it's if you love what you do,
right, It's it's it's not likereally work. So exactly a fun
question. I love asking this question, and there's no I just you know,
there's no you know, wrong answer. But if you could collaborate with
(11:56):
any artists living or dead, whowould it be and why? Ooh this
is easy for me. Oh Ilove it. Yes, is so good.
I've loved Demi since like Camp Rockdays, so I've been here since
the start pretty much. Wow.Oh yeah, you're you're an og Dimmi
Levana. Yeah, I love that. So we're gonna have a song right
(12:22):
there, exactly. It will happen, Yeah, it will happen. Oh
really another the same kind of energy. But if you could be managed by
any artists living or dead, whowould it be in why? Ooh hmmm,
I think I said Ariana Grande,Yeah, cause she she knows how
what to post, like, sheknows how to keep her fans, like
(12:46):
give them a drop of information aboutthe next song without doing too much and
then show hike she knows how tokeep life private and like also show people
what she wants to show them. Not everything's out there for everybody to know,
but you can know things about her, like I like the way she's
living her celebrity life, like youknow what, how to you know,
be seen and not be seen.Yeah, I like that. I like
(13:09):
her too. I think I waswatching something with Jason Lee from Hollywood Unlock.
He was talking about, uh,there was a question about you know,
Beyonce Rihanna, and he was like, well, he said, they're
both great queens and they're great, but Rihanna has you feel like more connected
with her and she's more engaging withthe audience versus like Beyonce, she just
comes and here, you know, here and there, and then like you
(13:30):
know, she's like unattainable, soyou don't really feel that connection with her,
which I understand. So yeah, there is a balance of like you
want that, you want your fansto kind of feel that connection to you,
but like also where you're not likeoverly doing too much and exactly it's
showing like where you are at thatmoment. Guys, I'm here like,
no, right, that could bea little scary, like you don't finishing
(13:54):
to pop up? Right? Uh? Really A fun question I love asking
is if money, power, andrespect the three levels of influence, If
you could choose one of those things, which one would you choose? And
why power or respect? Jeez?Okay, I would say, See,
(14:18):
I was gonna say money, butrespect is in there, so yeah,
money is good. I'm not gonnalie. It's expensive for the music career,
so I would say respect though, especially in the industry, because once
you have like those super high uppeople respecting you, you can get like
maybe another song or something that's gonnaeventually blow you up. Like you know,
(14:41):
you got to know people and youknow, talk to them. So
I think if I have their respect, then it would be a lot easier
for me to you know, getmyself out there in the industry. Yeah,
for sure, I like that. It's a great disa great answer.
You've expressed a desire to go ontour and perform your music live. Okay,
(15:01):
what did you envision for your futuretours? Okay? I envision envision
like lots of lights obviously pretty lights, yes, and lots of people,
And I want really cool merch, like the really cool like stuff you can
hold up the lights and stuff.I think that's so cute. And I
(15:22):
want shirts. I want like hoodiesand stuff at the merch table. And
also I want the stage to belike good enough for me to be able
to move around and dance and havefun, and the dancers to be there
too, Like I see the wholething. The outfits are coming together,
bright pink and sparkles and stuff.I just I see all of it.
(15:43):
It's gonna be so fun. That'sawesome. What's your sign? If I
if I may ask, I'm aVirgo. Oh yeah, I did not
see that one come in. Wow, what'd you think I was? I
thought you were maybe fire sign.Virgos. You guys are very no but
(16:03):
it makes sense now that you saidyou have it. You see, you
have it all laid out because Virgo'smuch very much organized people. You know
what you want? Yeah, that'sit, wrote it down. We have
it the way we want it.Hergoes are very particular. Hey, you
know, as we see Beyonce isa Virgo. You know it makes a
lot of sense. Yes, wedo. Shout out toos. We love
(16:26):
you. Guys. The so whenyou said, like the when we when
We're Together a music video like hasit's I'm sure it's received a lot of
positive feedback, and like, canyou share like a little bit of like
the behind the scenes moments and likehow the filming process was for all that,
and you know, yeah, itwas really fun. But also I
(16:49):
was really nervous because I didn't reallyknow that the party cast because my director
was like, hey, Ali,we need to get you in the party
scene because of the euphouria thing.I wanted to look like that. And
I was like, well, Idon't know if I even have enough friends
to make it look like a partyout here. And he's like, well,
you know, just the love interest. He throws party all parties all
(17:11):
the time, which is his nameis Chaz. Shout out to Jazz.
But she was like, if youhit up Chazz and say can you have
a party for this music video,I'm sure he'll do it. And I
was like, okay, cool,So I hit up Chaz. I was
like, hey, do you wantto like throw a party? You know
you'd be doing those and he's likeyeah, there's no problem. And then
he threw and I was like, make sure you tell him that we're also
filming a music video. He's likeokay, and then he did and we
(17:32):
got there and I was nervous becauseI didn't know anybody except Chaz and my
manager and Darius, the producer, and so I go in and I'm getting
ready for the shoot and everything, doing my makeup and stuff, and then
people start coming in for the partyand they're just like, you know,
partying, having a good time. And then it's time for us to finally
film, and I'm like, ohmy god, they're gonna all look at
me as soon as I walk outthere, right, And it didn't.
(17:52):
It wasn't even weird, like theywent with the flow because they kind of
knew. But I thought that theywere gonna be like, what the heck,
But they knew that a music videowas being and they started dancing and
made it look like real and evenlike the boys in the back. They
started choreographing a dance for the forthe music video because Chaz is the dancer
and so he has lots of dancerfriends and they immediately got into it and
started creating something in the back,so it looked like it was choreographed and
(18:15):
it was really cool at the end. And also we had Darius created like
this shower looking thing that made itlook like water was coming on like following
on me in the music video, and he like, d I, why
did I don't even know how that'syeah, he did it the day of
and it was so cold. Thewater was so cold, but it was
(18:37):
funny made it look great by theway. I mean, it was such
a moment. I love that love. I love those moments when on set,
like you know, you just hadto be there to see it,
but like when you see the fullpicture, you know, the the visually,
like you just never know. SoI really loved about like, you
know, certain things that happened. You're like, oh, yeah, that
(18:59):
was unexpected, but we made itwork. Mm hmm. So that's always
the best. That's really cool.Do you do you want to get in
front of the camera more, likeas far as like acting wise, is
that something you want to try?I think I would like, yeah to
try it eventually, because you know, I went to school for theaters,
so we did singing, dancing, and acting, so I have a little
bit of acting in there, soyeah, I would like to try.
(19:21):
It's nice. I love that,so you know what, you know,
we're living a time now that youknow. It's sometimes you know this,
especially this industry, it's there's upsand downs, ebbs and flows. Uh,
and sometimes everything doesn't seem so certain, you know, there's not the
uncertainty is not always there. Whatkeeps you going at the end of the
day to say, you know what, even though yeah, I'm having a
(19:41):
bad day, I'm just going tokeep keep going. Like what keeps you
going? Yeah? What keeps megoing is like watching other artists and stuff
I like to before I go onstage and stuff I like to watch like
Arianna and Jimmy and they're like howthey you know, take over the stage
and I'm like, okay, they'rereally good at what they do, so
I can do that too. Solike when I'm having a bad day,
(20:03):
I like to watch my favorite artists, or I like to like go outside
and connect with nature to ground yourselfagain, because you just really get in
your head. It's like being inyour head when you're having a bad day.
Just get out of there, gooutside, eat your good food that
you like, and like cheat yourselfuntil you feel good again. That's how
I do it. Oh nice what'syour what's your favorite food? I mean,
oh, I love pasta, anythinglike pasta related. Oh wow,
(20:26):
you look amazing, Holy thank you. I don't even know. I guess
it's all the walking. I'd bedoing nice outside. I love it if
I eat pasta. Oh man,I gotta stay in the gym. I
gotta stay in the gym. Goodlord. What advice would you give to
other upcoming artists or just anyone thatwants to get into this business? Mm
(20:51):
hmm. My advice is to justkeep posting your songs and music no matter
what. Like, if you feellike nobody's looking, keep posting. Somebody
will like my vine thing. Ikept posting on vine until something blew up
and I say go and hashtags.Use the hashtags. At first, I
was like, why, what's thepoint. It's so people can see like
(21:11):
certain content. If you hashtag likea hall clothing hall, they'll see it.
If you hashtag a certain artist ifyou're doing a cover of their song,
like people are going to be lookingfor Ariana Grande. So if you
hashtag Ariana while you're doing a cover, more people who are a fan of
her will see it and like belike, oh oh wow, this person
can sing or something. So usehashtags, keep posting, be consistent,
(21:33):
and be your number one fan.Okay, because I'm always having myself up.
I retweet myself on Twitter. Ido all kinds of things. I'm
like, listen, you're gonna hearthis music because I'm my fan, right.
I love that. That's beautiful.Be your own fan. That's that's
great. That's a good thing toremember for sure. What's next for you?
(21:53):
What can you give us a littleglimpse of any upcoming projects or things
that you're working on. Yeah,I am. Actually I'm trying to go
in the studio next week. LikeI said, I wrote this song and
I really want to record it becauseI think it's a funny concept and I
can give you the concept too.Oo yeah ooh sneakye. So basically,
(22:15):
it's like when you leave. It'slike a concept of leaving something at your
man who's not your man's house,so like you want him to be your
man, so you leave like asweater or you leave like I don't know
some makeup, are your lip glossor something? Oops? I left that.
Can I come back over and getit. It's that type of song.
I love it. I love it. Well, I'm excited for you.
(22:36):
Congratulations on everything that you're doing anddefinitely come back on in the future.
Oh yes, I would love tothank you for having me. Thank
you so much. Oh really quick, where can people find you on social
media? Funnel everything that you gotgoing on. Yeah, so if you
look up Ali kat A L LI C A T T T, I'll
probably pop up three t's that's meor Ali Fitz. It's like I got
(23:00):
both names. I love that.I love that. Thank you again.
It was just a pleasure to talkto you. Thank you for having me.
Thank you and thank you all forlistening and always remember to live,
love, laugh. We'll see youguys next time.
