Cuando Sergio llega a casa el 22 de febrero de 2003, no encuentra ni a su madre ni a la actual pareja de su madre. Sin embargo, ve que Jesús ha dejado una nota en la que le cuenta que ha vuelto a discutir con Juana. Al ver que su madre no vuelve, Sergio intenta denunciar su desaparición, pero la policía le pide que espere 24 horas para que se haga efectiva. No sucede lo mismo cuando Jesús, pocas horas después, denuncia que Juana le ha agredido y le ha robado 700€: esa denuncia sí la aceptan.
