Since twenty eighteen, CRN proud to be the voice of
the Clayton Comments. The following is an exclusive broadcast presentation
of the Community Radio Network.

Speaker 6 (12:19):
We see R. It is an absolute fun time in
Comets Country. Why because on Halloween Night, the Comets were
finally able to slay the beast that was the Cleveland
Rams with a twenty to three victory to not only

(12:43):
pick up the Greater News River seven a conference football
championship for the first time since twenty seventeen by and
obviously overtaking the nemesis that is the Cleveland Rams twenty
to three. What a big win on Friday night and
as us up into the road for the postseason. Yes,
the comments are on a by this weekend Round one

(13:05):
of state, but it felt so good Friday night we
felt like we had to bring you the show this
evening to recap it all. Coming up on the program
for the November fourth edition, playoff edition of Comets Football
Weekly Live from Vincent's pupt Eatery, Coach Scott Chadwick has
always will dive into the red of the game. Also,
Bennett Jones, defensive coordinator for the Comments, talks about how

(13:29):
the defense got it ready stepped up to not only
play the game in great comment form, but to obviously
do a phenomenal job. For the first time ever, the
Cleveland Rams and football history, did not score a touchdown
in a game. On Friday, Melissa Hubbard, the principal of
the Comets, joins us to talk about all the exciting

(13:52):
things of Comets Football and the upcoming new developments of
the new Clayton High School entertainment, all the athletics that
are all coming of twenty twenty six and beyond. And
if that wasn't enough, flash in from a flight running
from the terminal trying to get here to Vincent's Kim
Wins level. Will be here, Robbie Morel's here, coaches are here,

(14:12):
players are here. It's a fun time. Are you ready?
It is Tuesday, November fourth, twenty twenty five. Comments Football
Weekly starts right now.

Speaker 14 (14:23):
Comments Country, It's time are you ready? From football to basketball, baseball, softball,
in lacrosse, and even volleyball to soccer, It's so much more.
From the diamond to the field and the court. It's
time for Clayton Comments Athletics. And we are now on

(14:45):
the air for broadcasts coverage exclusively and CRN, the Community
Radio Network.

Speaker 6 (14:55):
And we have a crowd here at Vincent. J'all make
some noise you're ready? How about it? Wow, what a
turnout we were kind of expecting this coach obviously after
a big, big victory Friday night. Can we say also
what a turnout for the postgame party on Friday for Halloween.

Speaker 8 (15:14):
Yeah, a lot of a lot of exciting things to celebrate.

Speaker 6 (15:17):
Certainly was for sure twenty to three a big win
for Clayton over the Cleveland Rams. And we welcome you
to our coverage, whether you are watching on our seer
and YouTube channel, whether you are listening on our radio
platforms on the Community Radio Network. Along with coach Gott Chadwick,
I'm Wesley Outland. Vincent's pump and eatery is where we
are and hey, let's give it up to the coach.

(15:39):
How about it finally be in Cleveland how was your weekend?
By the way, I know you, I know you've not
been feeling well, but it's still it's still a good
weekend when you got that big win Friday, wasn't it.

Speaker 15 (15:52):
Oh it was great. It's been a great, great few days. Yeah,
it's it's kind of a high, you know, it's it's
I described it is. You know, when you have nights
like that, when you have wins like that, that's those
are the ones that sustain you, and those are the
ones that you know, keep you coming back. It's it's
like it's like, you know, being like a bad golfer
like I am. You know, you hit that one or

(16:13):
two really good shots, come back and play golf some more.
And you know, when you put in all the work
and do everything that we do and sacrifice everything we do,
when you have nights like like we had the other night,
it keeps you coming back. And uh, you know, like
I said at the end of the game, though it
wasn't really about me, I was so excited to see

(16:34):
how excited everybody else was. I was so excited to
see the joy that everybody else had and what we accomplished.

Speaker 8 (16:40):
And that's what that's what meant the most to me.

Speaker 6 (16:44):
I set in closing on Friday night, and I know
a lot of our other crews followed the same sentiments
Friday nights when was not only a victory, but it
was also, I think, a healing and it was a
redemption for the town, the team, the school, the community

(17:05):
of what has been the battle between Cleveland and Clayton
since twenty seventeen.

Speaker 8 (17:10):
Yeah, I think it was a little bit more than
just winning a football game. I think it.

Speaker 15 (17:13):
And that's what I meant, you know when I said
after the game, it was it was great to see
so many people take joy in it because I definitely
think I think it.

Speaker 8 (17:23):
Was more than just winning a football game.

Speaker 15 (17:25):
I think it, uh uh, there was a lot behind
it and a lot of you know, a lot of
healing and a lot of joy that it brought a
lot of people, and you know, it meant a lot
to me.

Speaker 8 (17:37):
And uh and you know, it's what I said in
the in the postgame.

Speaker 15 (17:42):
One of the one of the interviews I did was
that I really wanted to bring this to everybody and
do this because I felt like this, this school, in
this community has been so good to me, and you know,
my family since I got here that I really wanted to.
I really wanted this for them.

Speaker 6 (17:59):
So here's what we're gonna do. We have an amazing
panel of people excuse me, that are gonna be live
here at Vincent's Pubben Herie for the show here tonight.
People that I mentioned like defensive coordinator Bennett Jones, principal
Doctor Coach is here, Melissa Hubbard is here, Robbie Morell
might jump on here. Mark Coach might add dialogue as well.
Kim Winslow, as always with her segment presented by All State,

(18:22):
is planning to come in. She's literally on the whether
is it forty heading back from the airport, heading to
Vincent's right here. But obviously there's a lot of great
things planned guests that we have lined up. But anyhow,
comments are twenty one and one. Obviously now winning home games,

(18:42):
let's give him a round of applause. Win it at home?
How about it? Something about winning at home is special.
But obviously doing what she did at Nixon Fowler Friday night,
I said, this Friday Night's game is something that I
think nobody will ever forget, our children's children and the
people that we witnessed it Friday, whether the winner or

(19:02):
the loss, will be talking about this game, I believe
for decades to come.

Speaker 15 (19:06):
You know, the last thing I said to our players
before we walked, before we left the locker room to
go to the field at seven twenty whatever it was,
the last thing I said to him was I need
you to take this all in. I need you to
look around, and I need you to get ready because
this is going to be a night that you'll never forget.

Speaker 6 (19:22):
And it really wasn't twenty to three. And by the way,
can we say this, we've got defensive coordinator Bennett Jones.
Matter of fact, let's go ahead and bring him up
right now. Let's go ahead and get him up, ladies
and gentlemen. A former principal of Clayton, he is a
lover of comics, football principal doctor coach in the arts.
Had Benny Jones come on a minute, As you can see,

(19:44):
he still got on his Halloween costume from Friday night,
I figured we just jumped right into the segment. Bennett.
Welcome to the show, sir. Obviously, it's great to have
you joining us on the program. And Boss, thanks great
to be here. So this is not a Halloween costume.

Speaker 15 (20:05):
That's right.

Speaker 6 (20:06):
Yeah, I just josed it was a great hat.

Speaker 16 (20:08):
We just wanted to wear the hat to be seen
on the sidelines, make sure our kids could get.

Speaker 6 (20:14):
The calls in. So just that's a good color. Yeah,
that's just good. That's all it is. Listen, you kind
of dabbled a little bit into it when Kim interviewed
you in post game after we talked to coach Chadwick
in the twenty the three win. But I was I
was going to toss it to both of y'all. In
the year's past, the losses to Cleveland from Clayton were

(20:38):
only two point deficits. When y'all suited up and played
them this past Friday night, Cleveland didn't have a chance
to get in the end zone. And anytime there was
a chance to go to the end zone, Clayton stopped
up in a big way and made some big stops.
And by the way, I checked, double check, triple checked,
and even Saturday when I wasn't done, when I was
finished partying from Vincent's on Friday and checked again. Cleveland

(21:02):
football since its inception has never had a game until
Friday where they were not allowed to score touchdown twenty
to three. All they got was a Brodie Barnes field
goal coach. But it's happened a lot been with the defense.

Speaker 16 (21:19):
Yeah, I mean, we really didn't talk a lot about
the previous years. I mean those were different teams, different games,
different you know, different players in a lot of cases,
and so really our focus was just on us. We
talked about at the beginning of the week that from
a defensive perspective, if we would just take care of
the things that we control, we can't control so many
other things that go on during the game, whether it's

(21:40):
a call or whether it's you know, it's a mistackle
or something like that that just kind of happens during
the course of the game. But if we could get
lined up right, if we could be disciplined and not
jump all sides and give away things, if we would
do the things that we needed to do. You know,
our mantra was to prepare to win, but execute to dominate.
And you know, the guys did a great job in

(22:02):
executing throughout the night, and you know, the performance spoke
for itself after that.

Speaker 6 (22:07):
Yeah, you point blank said, if we control what we
can control on the field, the mistakes, the things that
Clayton's defense and or offense have done this year has
been self. It's been done by us. But if we
can work on our things to make us better, then
we can be dominant. And obviously you showed that by
literally you know. I mean there was what one stance

(22:30):
where I think Cleveland was on the three yard line
and the defense stepped up and not only pushed them back,
but said, you're not getting in. You're not getting in
my end zone. This ain't happening tonight.

Speaker 16 (22:39):
Yeah, I mean, I think it's just, you know, any
nature of a team is all about yourself and how
you can prepare to make the best version of yourself
show up when it comes time to kick it off.
And so, you know, I think our guys just really
bought into that matra that we would, you know, take
care of ourselves and you know, do the things that
we were taught to do. It was really kind of

(22:59):
calm on the sideline. Our kids were just kind of
engaged and no matter even after the block field goal
and they get a field goal, you know, our guys
just kept playing to the next play and they got
a first and goal on the you know, a first
and ten on the eleven, and you know, got to
the three and our guys were like, we'll just step
up and make a play, even if we had to
call a couple of timeouts just to make sure we

(23:19):
were on the right set. So, you know, it's just
I thought, you know, the awesome thing about what we
did defensively was at halftime, our guys were like, hey,
you know, they make adjustments, and we were like, well,
we do too, And our kids came out confident and
I think coach said about fifty four yards of offense
I think in the second half. So we we take
a lot of pride in closing out games, and we

(23:40):
closed out that game to make sure that we could
kind of have a great celebration afterwards.

Speaker 6 (23:44):
Here's some of the stats from fridays twenty to three
win with the Comments getting the victory over the Cleveland
Rams to lock up the Greater Deuce Rivers seven eight
Conference title. Comments held the Rams to one hundred and
sixty four yards of total offense, fifty two yards in
the second half. We scored them thirteen to zero. Commets
held the Rams without a touchdown, as I mentioned, for

(24:05):
the first time in Cleveland school history. Here's some of
the big players of the game. Keith Shawn Stancel had
six tackles, two tackles for loss in a sack. Is again,
by the way, he was in the news last week
because he was committed to Clemson. Now he flips and
he's going to Miami when he graduated from Clayton. Cayden
Blackwell had three tackles for lost in the sack. Tyler
Williams had a big stop on a fourth goal play,

(24:26):
and Aiden Small's had two hundred and thirty nine yards
of total offense. Three touchdowns, two passing, one rushing. I
think of Tyler Campbell the Michael Myers of the Comets
with a touchdown. Parker Ferguson got a touchdown. What a
fun night here, coach. On Friday. It was for Halloween. Heah.

Speaker 15 (24:42):
You know, I told the guys today and we were
talking about, you know, the offensive side of the ball
and things, and you know it was tough because you know,
we were down, you know, two of our better guys,
our center West and Barth and Terras Hobbs, our big
play guy, and River God loved him just went in
there and literally played on one leg all night and

(25:02):
really toughed it out. So we were we were a
little bit shorthanded. But one of the things I saw
early in the game was that our defense had come
to play and and I really felt very very good
about the fact that we're going to be able to
hold them down. And you know, somebody asked me to
kind of change your playing a little bit, and actually
it really did. I told the guys, I kind of

(25:22):
likened it to a baseball game where you know, at
the third or fourth ending, if you realize your pitcher
has his a stuff and he's gonna throw a you know,
a one, or you know, give up one or two
runs or throw a shut out. When you when your
team's at the plate, it does change what you do.
You might bunt a guy across, you might play for
one run.

Speaker 8 (25:40):
So knowing how well.

Speaker 15 (25:41):
Our defense was playing it, it did kind of change
the way we we ran the offense a little bit
and just trying to make sure we didn't put our
defense in any bad situations and and score. You know,
when we had the opportunities, and except for the the
issue with the field goal, you know we did. We
got down and we scored, and you know, once we
got the third score, we knew we were we were

(26:02):
in good shape.

Speaker 16 (26:03):
I always appreciate you scoring a couple more runs there
that I made it a little bit easier there the
fourth quarter.

Speaker 6 (26:11):
So I appreciate that, Bennett, on on a level that
I have to ask you this question because I tell
people this all the time. If it wasn't for the
late Marlon Lee and Bennett Jones, the Community Radio Network
would not be the voice of comments athletics or do
the things that it started from. But for the years

(26:31):
of the past as you being a principal, right and
Melissa Hubbard is now the principal and we will hear
from her, and she's done a fantastic job since you
have left. But while you were here all the all
of the the crazy games, the Friday nights between Clayton
and Cleveland home or away as a coach, but also
as a father because your son, Carston Jones is one

(26:53):
of the senior quarterbacks. What did it mean just to
get over that hurdle Friday night? Not on the not
on the coaching side, but on the personal level. It
was satisfying for a couple of reasons.

Speaker 16 (27:06):
One, I think just to see it for the kids, right, Uh,
you know, in Carson's group, and I've known a lot
of those kids. I coached, coached a lot of those
kids in Little League, UH, in travel baseball at Civitan,
saw them in middle school.

Speaker 6 (27:22):
And so to see that group I really.

Speaker 16 (27:26):
Kind of exercise a lot of those demons and went
and to win a conference championship as well was huge.
I think that was you know, that was a part
of it, you know, the personal aspect of it and
everything else. It really was just for everybody else. I mean,
my my thoughts went back to the Hunter Jinks of
the world, and went back to the Eddie Prices. It

(27:47):
went back to the players and who came up, the
John montagues and the people that didn't get to experience that,
and I think it was so special for all those
guys to be able to kind of do that for
for those good as well. We've had some really good
teams and they've had some really good players that there
you know, at Cleveland and have done some good things
with what they've done, and so it just was a

(28:10):
it was a satisfying part from that aspect of it.
And you know, you talked about that, you know, the
start of CRN, and I think this was kind of
always the vision was that football and sports and.

Speaker 6 (28:22):
Athletics have a big deal at Clayton.

Speaker 16 (28:23):
Mclayton has so much to offer as a school and
there's so much to take pride in as a community
and as a community based school. And I'm so proud
of what, you know, what we accomplished on, you know,
thrilled at what Melissa has accomplished in. The school has
continued to thrive and even excel in all aspects under
her leadership, and the things that were going on and

(28:43):
the new high school to come and everything. It really
is just a continual process that really got started back
you know in twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen, and it continues
to go on to today. And you know that's that's
the cool part to see it on that level, on
that field, you know, on that turf and in that environment,
and know that a brand new press box is coming

(29:04):
and a brand new you know, bleachers is coming and
then eventually a brand new school altogether. Is it's really
exciting for the community to know that there's a strong
investment in Clayton Hight School.

Speaker 6 (29:15):
Yeah, the word I use is the new Clayton High
School because the word face lift obviously definitely just doesn't
use the right wording, but there it is definitely great
to see a lot of great things coming and it
is definitely something that's been a long time coming. And
Melissa Hubbard will chat up with us about that very soon.
I got one more question. I ask him, we're gonna

(29:36):
go to break here. We got coming up. Robbie's gonna
give his insight of the game. Can wins Lay will
be here. Miss Hubbard is coming up next. One of
the biggest things that I've said all year, I think
our comic seer and broadcast crew has said all year,
is if Clayton does not make the mistakes that they make,
they could really go really far. One of the biggest

(29:56):
things I really talk notice on Friday n was the
fact that they did not jump off sides so many times.
Can we indulge in how that become a success on Friday?
I think it's really just an intention to the DJO.
The credit is for the guys, the coaches.

Speaker 16 (30:18):
You know, our coaches really really worked hard on stressing
the fundamentals, not just jumping all sides, but playing the
right way tackling.

Speaker 6 (30:26):
Sure, our tackling was much better the other night.

Speaker 16 (30:29):
Being in the right spot, not getting sucked into where
we gave up an edge or being out leveraged. We
played with better leverage on the defensive lines to control
the gaps our linebackers fit down. Heel versus that we
did a lot of the fundamental things well. Our secondary
coverage was outstanding, and we didn't give up you know,

(30:49):
wheel routes for touchdowns to wide have in people. You know,
we were lying, So it really goes the credit goes
to the players and the coaches that.

Speaker 6 (30:57):
Put in the work.

Speaker 16 (30:58):
And I think, you know it was it was really
quiet from our defense. And I said that word because
it's the noise was blocked out. It was just focusing
on doing what we need to do in each play.
And so when our guys locked in, you know, I
told him this thing, those we work too hard and
we're too good to give things away. If we make
teams earn it, then we'd be amazed at what we

(31:21):
can accomplish. And so I felt like, you know, the
first two drives at Garner the other night, besides the
fumble a week ago, kind of gave things away. We
weren't lined up right, we missed tackles and I challenged
them in the first quarter at Garner, I said, you know,
you got to fix it, Like we can put you
in stuff, but you've got to fix it. And since then,

(31:44):
you know, we've played seven really really outstanding quarters giving
up one touchdown. I mean, if you really want to
dive into the numbers, I mean, we given up one
passing touchdown in the conference with our starters, one passing
touchdown in six games in the Conference sea and we
only give up seven rushing touchdowns. So you know, we're
holding basically teams to a touchdown a game. Maybe you

(32:06):
know too. And so if we don't give away the
other stuff, if we make them earn it, we can
be really really good as a defense. And our kids
did that, and so it's really a testament to them
and the hard work they did. It was so satisfying
to see guys like uh, you know, KB get a
big sack at the big time. You know, Mary Gibbons
making big plays, Christian Smith, Charles Smith, you know, getting

(32:29):
the pick at the end is our guys can showcase
their talents when we don't give away things, and right,
that's that. That really was a cool thing. It was
a team defensive effort. It certainly helps to have number
eight in there because he's he's pretty good. But but
but the other guys, you know, really have stepped up
and did a great job as well.

Speaker 6 (32:48):
And so it's like game I mean, I could go
right down the list.

Speaker 16 (32:54):
Jordan Ham was phenomenal, that Tyler Williams coming over to
from offense to defense and was just stout in the middle.
I mean, you can go right down the line of
DBS to I mean, Malacot Bird and Ak Crimel, they
were all down the list. It was a team effort,
and you know, now the challenge for us is how
do we duplicate that. How do we take that same

(33:14):
kind of intensity and focus on details and take it
with us in each game. The cool thing is I
think they've got a lot of validation and that, you know,
the stuff that we work on can can translate, and
so let's just make it.

Speaker 6 (33:26):
Translating next time we get up there again. And obviously
remember the comments. Obviously Greater News Rivers seven eight champions.
They have a bye week. The run for state begins
this Friday, but the comments obviously will not play on Friday.
They await either the team of the Heritage Huskies or
New Handover and of course whatever the outcome of that
game will be on Friday night, they will of course

(33:49):
host one of those teams next Friday. Benny Jones trying
to applause everybody. Defensive coordinator, thank you, sir, We appreciate it.
We are going to take a break and when we
come back. Melissa Hubbard joined us on the show Stay
with US Comics Football Live Live weekly from Vincent's pubban
Eatery returns at a moment, look at you go, the.

Speaker 10 (34:12):
One trip grocery cham snooze button resistor, Master sock Matcher.
We know the daily grind can be tough, but amidst
the hustle, we see you conquer it all. And at
Scooter's Copy, we believe it's the little wins that deserve
some big moments of joy. So go on, embrace that
tiny triumph you master Parallel Parker. You take that victory

(34:32):

Jerk the Backs, Chack the backs.

Speaker 6 (34:49):
Got here.

Speaker 17 (34:50):
Jack the Backs gets in your head right good, Because
every year, dozens of children are forgotten in the backseat
of a car by a parent or caregiver. All never
thought it could happen them, but with changes and routines,
distractions or a sleeping child, it can happen to anyone.
Parked cars get hot fast and can be deadly, So
get it in your head bags. A message from NITSA

(35:59):
juicy night from Vincent's Puppet Eatery, eight hundred East Main Street.
Tell them the Community Radio Network sent you Vincent's pubb
and Eatery, good food, good fun and go comments and

(36:19):
that is where we are at Vincent's Pub and Eatery
eight hundred Main Street. Thank you so much to Angie
and Caroline, and what a turnout we had for the
after party obviously on Friday. And we're not done yet,
Ladies and gentlemen, playoffs. The road to state begins first
time obviously. Hopefully Clayton can put themselves in the driver's

(36:41):
seat and go towards a state championship, something that's not
been done since nineteen eighty nine. They won a two
A football title under the direction of the great head coach,
longtime coach, mister Gary Fowler. Well the back and ladies
and gentlemen, we now bring to the program the principle

(37:01):
of the Clayton High School. She keeps all the comments
in line. She does a phenomenal job. Show you love
and make some noise from Miss Melissa Hubbard. Hello, Miss Hubbard, Hello,
it is always good to catch up with you. At
least one time out of the year you at least
pop in on the show. We appreciate you always being here.

(37:22):
A lot of exciting things that come for Comic Country.
Might I add if people don't follow social media or
they haven't been reading the newspapers. Some great things coming
for the new Clayton High School.

Speaker 18 (37:33):
Yeah, very exciting. Hopefully. We went to the commissioners yesterday
morning to present the new plan. Hopefully back we'll meet
back on the seventeenth of November for the final vote
and once that starts the dead the dates are given out.
I think around December the twenty six is when they

(37:55):
start on the grand stands, so to be a new,
brand new press box, brand new grandstand. After basketball season
in March, they will be tearing down the Adams Gym
and then after that they'll start, you know, the whole
time they're building the three story tower up on the

(38:16):
hill is kind of what I call it.

Speaker 6 (38:17):
It's where the buses are at, the.

Speaker 18 (38:19):
Tennis courts, the softball field, all of that parking. It'll
be a two tower admin building and then a three
tower wing of classes and I have a whole new
gym and auks gym. Everything. Well, now we'll be housed
under one roof. The only constructure remaining is actually the fieldhouse, so.

Speaker 8 (38:42):
I don't have to move off.

Speaker 6 (38:43):
Yeah, I mean that's technically right.

Speaker 19 (38:45):
You're the lucky one.

Speaker 6 (38:46):
All of the beating.

Speaker 15 (38:49):
Literally in the building, who doesn't have to change offices. Yeah,
that's crazy.

Speaker 6 (38:55):
Well, I'm looking at the history of Clayton High School
when it open, and a lot of people don't realize this.
That school has been there for a very, very long time.
If people did not know, Clayton High School was established
in nineteen oh one, the first graduating class was nineteen
oh four. It's twenty twenty five, twenty twenty six coming up.

Speaker 18 (39:19):
Yeah, you know, the first high school was the Clayton
Center and then they moved into the high school that
we're at now. In fact, my mom was one of
the first classes that graduated from there in sixty four. Okay,
but she's like, she's seventy nine, so it's old. I mean,
it's it's been there, like that was her middle school.
They went to middle school there for a while before

(39:39):
it was like the high school. Well, I'll be I said,
she's old.

Speaker 6 (39:43):
I love the fact. I love the fact, Miss Hubbard.
That listen, we've been talking for years, right, coach, when's
the new press box coming? When's this gonna be done?
When is this gonna be done?

Speaker 4 (39:57):
Right?

Speaker 6 (39:58):
I mean we literally thought two years ago they're gonna
tear the you know, we were talking about having a
bar burner, you know, and go on Facebook live on
see ain't gonna have it. But the thing is this,
It's not just Commons football. It's the entire remanufacture of
everything that's being done. And I'll be honest, it's about time,

(40:18):
it really is. I mean that school's been there for
a very very long time. Obviously a lot of great
things are in the making, and I think it's just
gonna build to make Clayton be what it is in
the future. I mean, it took me fifteen minutes because
of traffic from coming down seventy from Smithfield to get
here to Vincent's. Because we just talk about the continued
growing of the Clayton community.

Speaker 18 (40:40):
I mean, it's the truth. People moved to Clayton for
Clayton High I've been I've always known that, being a
Clayton resident myself, and that's where I wanted my children
to go, right But even since I've been there, the
conversations that parents are like, Hey, we're looking at buying
this house. Is it in the Clayton district and we
have to check? We say yeah, because they want their

(41:02):
children to come to Clayton. I say it all the time.
Unless you've been a member of the Clayton community, going
to Clayton and honestly been an employee of Clayton, you
don't understand the meaning of being a Clayton comment the
importance of that sea and I mean, and I say
it all the time, it's a different kind of blue,

(41:22):
and you don't understand un who you walked in those
halls and you've worn it, how special it is.

Speaker 6 (41:27):
If you're watching on the youtube' Seerian page, you see
miss Melissa Hubbard, coach Chadwick myself. There is also the
trophy there, and that is the Friday Night Rivals Football
Trophy that week won from MARDC twenty eight something Melissa,
that Cleveland has won on television the last couple of years.
But they can't take this one away.

Speaker 20 (41:48):
Hope.

Speaker 6 (41:48):
Was your take of Friday Night's game?

Speaker 18 (41:50):
I cried, It's something that I mean, I love. I'm
competitive at heart, but I love of our boys. I
love their dedication to the sport. I love their dedication
to our school. I love the fact that how much
it means to them to put on that uniform every week.

(42:12):
And so many of them come in my office daily,
and so many I told last week, you can do this.

Speaker 21 (42:22):
You have to.

Speaker 18 (42:23):
It's a mental block, is a mental game right now.
But you are the better team and I think that,
and I felt we were the better team for years.
For years. It's just not always sometimes the better team wins.
But I will say that Friday night, the better team,
the best team, and a team with class one.

Speaker 6 (42:46):
Hey, y'all can make some noise. That's a great statement
from her coach.

Speaker 15 (42:49):
Yeah, I mean, she's right, and I think the mental
block thing is absolutely true. I certainly felt like I
felt two years ago, you know, we were both about
even and they made one more play than we did.

Speaker 6 (43:05):
But last year I really.

Speaker 15 (43:06):
Felt like we were we were a better team, and
you know, we just allowed the fact that you know,
circumstances get to us last year and and and you know,
gave one away that we probably should have won. And
this year, you know, I could definitely see a different vibe.

(43:26):
I felt like during the week, very confident vibe, and
and we played like that. We played very confidently. We
played like the name on the front of the shirt
didn't matter. And that's you know, I knew that's what
it was going to take that we had to get
past the name on the shirt and just go play football.

Speaker 8 (43:44):
And and we did that, and.

Speaker 15 (43:47):
You know, it was just really proud of the guy.
The one thing I have been preaching for three or
four weeks now is that, hey, can we play four
quarters and just let's just see what it looks like,
you know, right, like to see what it looks like.

Speaker 8 (44:01):
Uh, I think it can be pretty good. But you know,
we hadn't done that yet.

Speaker 15 (44:05):
And even against Garner, we played three quarters, and those
three quarters we were pretty darn good. So I thought, Man,
imagine if we could put you know, four of these together,
what it would be like?

Speaker 8 (44:17):
And uh, and it was. It was pretty darn good.

Speaker 6 (44:21):
Melissa. Obviously of the years past we barricade and keep
the fans, the comic crew, everybody off the field. You
weren't going to keep them off the field Friday night.
There was no way stopping that. That was a pretty
special moment, wasn't it.

Speaker 18 (44:38):
No, When they when I'm I'm probably a little weaker
when it comes to our children and sometimes and what
they won't But our superintendent was there.

Speaker 6 (44:47):
I fled it.

Speaker 18 (44:48):
Director was there, and they were like, I think everybody
knew it, and I think everybody was okay with it,
that this was well deserved. All we told them was
don't go past the ten and they did it.

Speaker 6 (44:58):
Yeah, that's all the rules.

Speaker 18 (45:00):
We have great kids.

Speaker 6 (45:01):
Yeah. The only thing they did, Comic Crew was you
knocked down my banner, ripped my banner. I got to
get them on fixed. But it's all good.

Speaker 8 (45:08):
Well no no no, you only have nine.

Speaker 6 (45:10):
No, we only have nine now, no, no, no no.
But it was special though, and that isactly what I said.
I said, you know what, let them tear the banners down.
That's awesome that they'd done that because it was a
special moment for sure, and shameless plug. Thank you to
Gen three Performance Imagina and Fast Track Designs and Graphics.
We probably will get a banner before the playoffs. Back

(45:30):
to the A lot of people don't realize, right the
discussion for years to build the new Clayton High School,
to update the athletics facilities. What has that been like
for you being the principal to finally say we're starting
to see the end of the road, if you will.

Speaker 18 (45:48):
It's exciting. When I first started that that February of
twenty three, they were working on supposedly doing all this
really spent came out of having they were supposed to
have the auditorium, the bond that was from twenty eighteen,
and then budget and money wasn't there. And honestly it
was just what the school in the community was old.

(46:08):
And I think that through a work of our commissioners,
our school board and the town really in the community
members speaking up saying hey, you know, we were promised
this auditorium and you didn't fulfill it. And so I
do commend I cannot say enough. The commissioners have visited
school numerous times in the last two years. They've seen

(46:32):
I mean, and they encouraged people yesterday come toward the
school because you will see how really old it is.
It's you know, doorframes that are not even you know
to any kind of you know, I hate saying compliance,
but you know they're so small, like if some you know,
it's you know what I mean, they're small, they're like tiny,
I mean, and people Joe because like it's the pink

(46:53):
bathroom still there, because it's just so outdated, not just outdated,
but it's old.

Speaker 6 (46:58):
And so they have really worked hard.

Speaker 18 (47:02):
I mean, we've gone through a lot of designs. We've
gone through tweaking. It's a similar to the Wilson's Middle School,
but we have made some tweaks with the design. And
I will say this working with the design team, what
has made this even more special is they say they
get to build high schools all the time, but they
never know, like what that's the colors are going to

(47:24):
be the school mascot. And they were able to do
the design of this school based on the comments and
everything in that school is a theme of like space
is about colors of the variations of our comet blue
and do not worry. When they first showed me a blue,
I said, you gotta take that blue off. That is

(47:45):
too light of a blue and that will never be
in the front office. And they said yes, ma'am. I said, now,
if you need any get a color squatch, I will,
but that one will never work. But that's what's been,
you know, in meaning with them. And when they look
at you know, the carpet schemes, it's like sheoting stars.

(48:05):
I mean everything they said they've never gotten to build
a high school when they knew the history gotcha and
that was so when they could say it about the history,
then you know how meaningful and powerful the history of
the Clayton comments are.

Speaker 15 (48:21):
I think it's also important that you know Barnhill, the contractors,
Martin Moser, the president, he had his son is in
our program. He has kids at the school, so he
has a vested interest as well, and I think it
means something to him too.

Speaker 6 (48:36):
To add on to that, it's just because there's so
many people that are in the community that I think
that are on board with this thing and they're ready
to see change, right, I mean, and I think one
of the coolest things to take from it too is
you talk about them building the new two three tier school.
Nothing will stop the education for the students that are
there now. They're still going to be able to learn,
They're still going to be able to graduate and do

(48:57):
the things that they need to do. And then the
new Clayton comes down the fund.

Speaker 18 (49:01):
Sure, and that's what we have been you know, we've
talked about Coach chap nine since we've gotten together, is
about I said, you keep making us great on the field,
and I'm going to continue to make us great academically.
And I mean we've done that. I mean this year
we were in the top twenty percent in the state
and academic growth out of all the schools. And that's
because we got students who, honestly, they know their responsibility.

(49:26):
And I just say all the time. I mean, I
don't think there's a week or day that don't go
by that I don't look at one another admin or
we say walking down the hall. We have great kids.
We really have great kids, and it's just an honor
to be there. And I'm so excited me how many
people get to say they're building their own high school.

Speaker 6 (49:46):
I gotta ask you one more thing. Tell us the
story the digital the digital pylon sticks? How did that
all shome about? Because obviously I know that was a
that was a fun story. A couple of weeks ago.
Even your dad was telling me a little about it.
I love it.

Speaker 18 (50:01):
It's oh gosh. I can't tell you the way we
would tell the story because it is on the air.
But my dad and he has a lot of friends
that they go to every football game, I mean home away.
They traveled to Wilmington when we played Hoggard. They are
a dedicated bunch. I mean, Betty can testify it. It

(50:23):
ain't just happened since I've been there. It was way
before I got there, and their eyesight is probably not
up to par, and they could not see the numbers
on the damn marker. My daddy harped on me, and
if you know my daddy, he will harp on you
until you get something fixed the way he thinks it

(50:45):
should be fixed. And so I told john which is
white the bottom of electronic down worker, because I can't
do this anymore. So but we did, and I will
say this that he and his friends they collected nine
hundred dollars that they brought to school today that we
were donating to the athletic boosters. I told him not
to worry, that we could take care of the down market,
but he said, no, I have, you know, stayed on you.

(51:07):
But that's how we got the pilot of the electronic.
And then coach Chadwick went out there one day. He
fixed the the play clock, the play clock, and we
were just rolling in electronics.

Speaker 6 (51:18):
There you go, a lot of great things to come.

Speaker 15 (51:20):
Gott to thank Johnny and my second block class.

Speaker 6 (51:25):
Melissa Hubbard, thank you. Final question, obviously football ready to
go to the playoffs? Are you excited for and ready
to see what Clinton can do Friday night next week?

Speaker 22 (51:33):
Oh?

Speaker 18 (51:34):
I am and I know we I mean, and I
said it early on, we aren't done yet, and I
know we are going to go far. Coach Chap and
I talked about it. We were waiting to see that
that that perfect game, and we were near perfect Friday night.
And that's your show them what they're capable of, because
they truly are the best team.

Speaker 6 (51:50):
Ladies and gentlemen, show you love to Melissa Hubbard, principle
of Clayton. Thank you, miss Hubbard. We appreciate it so much. Obviously,
Kevin is here. Me and him used to work together
a lot during the baseball seasons when he was doing
the PA announcing we're gonna take a break. When we
come back, we're gonna bring Kim. Kim Is. Kim is ready, right,
she's got questions, she's got a she got a note pad. Yes,

(52:12):
you want to save you for another segment. Robbie, you
want to come up here. Robby's gonna join us. Kim
will be coming up in a minute. Let her get
some lunch. She's been on a plane. Ladies and gentleman,
one more time, Alyssa Hubbard, we're taking a break. More
comments Football Weekly from Vincent's Pupen eatery after the break.

Speaker 15 (52:29):
Shit, what is that?

Speaker 22 (52:32):
I'm a teenage girl. My bff Deucky Texas says she's
kissed Johnny. That's a problem because I like Johnny. Now
I'm emotionally compromising. Whoops, I'm all omg. Becky's not even hot.
And if you've got cut rate insurance, you can be
paying for this yourself.

Speaker 6 (52:51):
So get all state.

Speaker 22 (52:53):
You can save money, and you better protect it from
mayhem like me.

Speaker 6 (52:57):
Dollar for dollar.

Speaker 8 (52:57):

Speaker 24 (56:26):
Oh boy, good night Friday night man, Happy Halloween. Yeah,
absolutely what I said. We talked about it going in.
It was it was an electric atmosphere. You know, we
were looking for the words, you know, energy and whatever
it was. But I mean what you saw down on
the field was just absolutely amazing.

Speaker 6 (56:41):
What the kids did.

Speaker 25 (56:43):
Uh, It just I think they turned the corner. Coach,
you know when you look at it, because like you said,
they played a perfect game from the from the stands.

Speaker 6 (56:50):
You know, from the box, we see much.

Speaker 25 (56:51):
Better tackling, better coverage areas Coach coach Jones and his
staff did an amazing job get everything ready, and and
you know, you guys are just fully prepared.

Speaker 6 (56:59):
I believe.

Speaker 15 (57:00):
Yeah, I felt good going in. It wasn't a lot
I was totally sure of. But the one thing I
felt really good about going in that we were gonna
I felt like we were gonna.

Speaker 8 (57:09):
Play good defense. I really did.

Speaker 15 (57:11):
I really thought that we'd had a good week. I
wish I could show you the book report that Eddie
Price delivered on Sunday to the staff of all the
film he had watched. It was literally a Pulitzer Prize
scatting report on everything. And so I felt like we

(57:31):
were prepared. I thought everybody had had a good week
of practice. One of the days where I really thought, Okay,
we're gonna be ready was back Tuesday. So if you
remember what last Tuesday was like, I think we were here.
It was about forty five to get nasty. It was nasty,
it was raining, and we were trying to decide what

(57:51):
we were going to do from a practice standpoint. And
so we met his coaches at like two thirty and
I just said, you know what, we have turf.

Speaker 8 (58:03):
They don't.

Speaker 15 (58:04):
They're going to have to go in the gym today.
They probably couldn't have gotten out Monday. I said, the
one advantage we have is if we have turf, let's
just go out, go as long as we can and
just get as much done as we can until you know,
it becomes too nasty out. So we had the coaches,
me and the kids are in the locker room waiting
for us to tell them what to do, whether we're
going to go because they had their tennis shoes to

(58:25):
go in the gym, whatever it was. And I walked
in the locker room and I said, all right, you
guys are probably gonna think I'm crazy, but I want
y'all to go ahead and get dressed. Put all your
gear on, put your warm clothes on, put your girdles on.
We're gonna go outside. And I expected to get about,
you know, seventy looks of is this guy nuts? Instead

(58:46):
I got a rousing cheer like let's go, you know,
And I went back in the coach's office. It was
so loud when I went in. I went back to
coach with the coach was like, did you tell them
to go home? I was like no, I told him
to get dressed. Let's go, We're going practice. And we
went out and for probably ninety minutes and rain that
was sideways and win blown. I mean, we had a

(59:07):
great practice. Yeah, and when we left that day, I thought,
you know what, I think we got a shot at
this thing now because those guys were ready.

Speaker 8 (59:15):
We had a great practice on Thursday.

Speaker 15 (59:18):
So I really I'm not surprised at how we played
because that's how we practiced all week.

Speaker 6 (59:23):
Yeah, that's great stuff.

Speaker 25 (59:24):
And then you know when you when you look at it,
you look at playing the total game, and you know,
like you said earlier, I think six you know, Jordan
Ham played an outstanding in one of his best ball
games of the year from what we've seen up top.
But you know what I also saw from the offensive
side was there was a lot of good decision making
from Aiden, you know, and and you know, not having Terrence,
so it was kind of okay, what do we do now?

(59:45):
But I think Aiden was very decisive with the football,
very very matter of fact in what we did. Noah
ran hard, even though they you know, they filled every
gap in the middle. They tried to stop one dimension
every game and tried to get to to beat you
with his arm. And I think it was able to
because he was able to find each level of the field.

Speaker 15 (01:00:00):
What do you think, Well, I mean, that's that's what
Aiden's done all year. I mean, you look back, look
at numbers. Numbers don't lie, and I think he's uh.
I think he's turned the ball over maybe three or
four times all season. He's protected the ball great all year.
It's one of the things I you know, I always
emphasized with my quarterbacks is to protect the football. And
I think he's done a great job of that. He

(01:00:21):
doesn't throw it in in harm's way, you know, he
protects it when he runs, So you know, I'm not
surprised by that at all. And then, you know, but
I did tell him during the week, look, man, we're
gonna we're gonna need you to make some plays. We're
gonna need you to make a couple of plays.

Speaker 22 (01:00:38):
You know.

Speaker 15 (01:00:38):
We always felt like the biggest thing we felt like
was that when we were on offense, we had the
best player on the field with Aiden, and we were
on defense, we felt like we had the best player
on the field with Keishawn, and we needed those two
guys to really to make some plays.

Speaker 8 (01:00:54):
And both of them did and in Keyshewan's case, you know.

Speaker 15 (01:00:58):
Everybody else kind of followed along, and and certainly in
Aiden's case, you know, Parker first and you know made
a couple of tremendous plays, you know, Tyler Campbell with
the big fourth down, you know, pass reception for the touchdowns.

Speaker 8 (01:01:12):
So yeah, he had a lot of guys that stepped
up and made plays as well.

Speaker 15 (01:01:16):
And you know, again, it wasn't it wasn't our best
offensive night, and a lot of that was just because
of the people we were missing. And they're pretty good
on defense. I mean, you got to give them credit too.
They're a very very good defensive football team. But like
I said, we pushed the runs across when we needed to,
and and I again just I was just really really

(01:01:40):
proud of the whole week and how we handled it.

Speaker 6 (01:01:42):
Yeah, we talked a little bit.

Speaker 25 (01:01:43):
I was able, you know, in pregame over getting everything
set up.

Speaker 6 (01:01:46):
I went actually went down to the locker room down
by a session.

Speaker 25 (01:01:48):
There was six or eight of the kids who were
standing at the door and they were just itching to get.

Speaker 6 (01:01:53):
On the field. You know, you can just where I
want to go on to go.

Speaker 25 (01:01:56):
So I had an opportunity to just talk to him
for just a second and said, hey, guys, take care
of you other. You know, one guy makes a mistake,
it's okay. There's ten mores out on the field with you.
And they all just seem to buy in. They all
just said we got it, We got them, you know,
And it was it was, Hey, if somebody news this
is cool, you got to pick him up. You gotta
make him stay in, stay calm, stay within that moment.
And it looks like it just happened for forty eight

(01:02:17):
full minutes the other night.

Speaker 20 (01:02:18):
It did.

Speaker 15 (01:02:19):
And it's uh again, it's stuff that we preach all
the time. Stuff we've been preaching for months and months,
And every now and then I'll look at him and
I'll be like, man, you guys are actually listening.

Speaker 8 (01:02:31):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 15 (01:02:33):
And you know, and and every now and then I'll
hear their interviews and they'll repeat stuff that I've that
I've said, and I'm like, all right, so they are
they are kind of listening.

Speaker 6 (01:02:41):
Yeah, it doesn't go in one come out the other.

Speaker 15 (01:02:44):
Sometimes you wonder, but every now and then you get
you get the messages that let you know that they
are listening.

Speaker 25 (01:02:49):
Yeah, So what do we know, coach, I know we
got two weeks we got to buy. Are you gonna
go see anybody play this weekend and go down and
watch watch the game down there?

Speaker 15 (01:02:57):
Yeah, we'll have a crew down at New Handover to
see the Heritage New Handover game. And you know we've
already kind of, you know, tried to start preparing a
little bit and try to get an idea of what
we think might happen. So yeah, it's you know, I
got asked today by a reporter was doing a story
on bye weeks, and you know, whether you're not you

(01:03:17):
like them or not, And you know, I think it
really honestly depends on the year and the situation. There
are sometimes where you'd rather just you know, keep right
on playing and go, and then there are other years
like this where I'm okay with the bodies, let's get
yield up. Yeah, we're very, very injured right now. We
need we need the bye week for that number one

(01:03:41):
and number two. That that was a very emotional, you
know night. And I don't care who we would be
playing this week. It would be a little bit probably
hard to turn right back around. It would have been
really hard over this past weekend to be game planning
coming right off of that, especially since I spent six

(01:04:01):
hours in the urgent.

Speaker 8 (01:04:02):
Carol Sunday, you know, so I I.

Speaker 15 (01:04:10):
Know there there's a school of thought that after you
play like that, you want to keep playing and have
the momentum. But we'll be fine next Friday, we'll be
able to get it started and we'll be ready.

Speaker 6 (01:04:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 25 (01:04:20):
Well, everybody talks about, you know, small town football. You know,
Melissa brought it up, doctor Edward and and you know
you've talked about it. Coach Jones talked about it. You know,
my son played here, my daughter came to go here
fifteen years ago. So I'm a common as well. But
you know when you go from a town like Charlotte
and you come to this small community Clayton, you know,
and all of a sudden there's four or five six

(01:04:40):
high schools, but we're still in the middle of the town.
Tell me some of the differences that you've found from
being from you know, Myers Park coming to Clayton, North Carolina.

Speaker 15 (01:04:48):
Well, I've mean, I'm from a small town like this,
and I coached in my hometown in Maryland, and this
is extremely similar to that situation.

Speaker 21 (01:04:58):
And u.

Speaker 8 (01:05:00):
You know, it was one of the reasons why, you know, being.

Speaker 15 (01:05:04):
In and Myers Park was kind of a small part
of you know, its own little area in Charlotte, but
it was still part of a you know, huge school system.
And it was one of the reasons why when I was,
you know, looking to get back here and looking to
get places, I was not going back to a big
school system.

Speaker 20 (01:05:23):
You know.

Speaker 15 (01:05:24):
One of the reasons obviously I came here is the
number of you know, extended family I have here, and
they sent me every possible job that opened up in
Wake County, and I kept telling them, I'm not going
to Wake County, so you can stop sending me jobs there.

Speaker 8 (01:05:38):
I'm not going to you know, a big school system.
I'm not going to that. And obviously this was a
perfect fit.

Speaker 15 (01:05:46):
And you know, one of these days Ben and I
got to tell the story of our first ever conversation
when he told me how all this stuff and I'm like, man,
that sounds like a great job. And then he then
he then he told me he'd already offered it to
somebody else, and I'm like, what the thanks for coming out,

(01:06:07):
What the heck are we having this conversation for you and.

Speaker 8 (01:06:11):
Of course I don't know. I'll share one detail about it.

Speaker 15 (01:06:14):
I didn't know that after I him and I had
a two hour conversation, I didn't know that he was
at home and he looked over at Jennifer and said, yeah,
I gotta get out of this deal with that other guy.
I got to hire this guy. Of Course, he didn't
tell me that for like four days. So I'm sitting
up there in Maryland trying to get the heck out
of there.

Speaker 8 (01:06:35):
Yeah, but yeah, and that.

Speaker 15 (01:06:39):
But that was obviously this being a town, the school
being the town school, in a place that cares about football.
I would say it was it was the number one
drawing card for me to come here. Was this is
That's what I wanted. I wanted to be in a
place where the town you know. And and it's one
of the things our kids will I played for them.

(01:07:01):
Back in August, there was a podcast. These two former
NFL guys have a podcast.

Speaker 8 (01:07:06):
Taylor Lawan and oh gosh, Will Compton.

Speaker 15 (01:07:11):
They have their own podcast, and they had Greg Olsen
on the podcast, and Greg Olsen was talking about high
school football. And these are three guys that played combined
probably thirty years YEP. In the NFL, and the three
of them talked about how high school football was the greatest,
and Greg Olsen said, if you are lucky enough to

(01:07:31):
play where your school is the town where you played
for the school, your school is the town. Yeah, if
you're lucky enough to play in that situation, you've got
it made. And you need to understand how fortunate you
are if you get to play in a small town where.

Speaker 8 (01:07:47):
You know, high school football is what it is.

Speaker 15 (01:07:50):
And I played that and I showed that to our
kids to make them understand, you know, just how fortunate
they are to have have what we have here.

Speaker 6 (01:07:56):
That's awesome, that's awesome.

Speaker 25 (01:07:57):
Well, I know on Friday we had some some some
issues with the PA, so you couldn't actually get all
of me out there. So, uh and first thing you said,
don't we're good because first thing you said to me
coming in, You're like, Robbie should be saying this third
down there, So I know now that's true.

Speaker 15 (01:08:12):
There was one point where I'm like, we can't offer
we're third down, Like.

Speaker 6 (01:08:16):
Where's Robbie. Why isn't he helling third down? Coach?

Speaker 26 (01:08:19):
Just so that you know, the PA was a little
rested up, we vowed to get it right. But I
did come down out of the press box and run
the stands and got Clayton comments going in the stands.
So we tried to, you know, do a little live
en up as we could. But Coach, it's it's an
honor for me to be a chat with you for
us as a town. I know, like I said, you know,
I like to talk about culture change, and that word
backwards is you rut luck, rut luck.

Speaker 25 (01:08:42):
So if you turn it around and you make culture change,
you're turning that world around. So, uh, you've definitely changed
the culture here of what we're going. It's going on
in a great direction.

Speaker 4 (01:08:51):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (01:08:51):
And I know that we're all very very proud to
have you here as our head coach.

Speaker 8 (01:08:54):
Thank you for what you do. Thank you appreciate it.

Speaker 6 (01:08:58):
Thank you very much, Robbie. We appreciate thanks your brother.
So you're ready for the playoffs, aren't you? Absolutely? I
cannot wait. It'll be exciting, you know, to have And
we're gonna have your mic again for you on the
side look forward and the lapel mic for the referee worked.
I promise you would work. Believe me. I found. We're
just getting ready afternoon. It worked. Uh, we justp they

(01:09:20):
turned the volume down over there, but we'll fix it.
It will make it right. I want to say thanks
again to coach Byron Smith. We worked together feverishly on
that because we want to make it an entertainment experience
and obviously the music and the sound effects and the hype,
but we got to have the pike.

Speaker 25 (01:09:39):
We got to have somebody to call out numbers and
downs and distance with the new new lit down marker.

Speaker 6 (01:09:43):
So yes, yes, I love it.

Speaker 25 (01:09:45):
But yeah, it's gonna be an exciting four or five
weeks for us moving forward. Coach, if I'm not mistaken,
we should be if we continue to win at home
until the fourth round.

Speaker 6 (01:09:56):
Correct. We talked about that yesterday.

Speaker 8 (01:09:58):
We are fortunate enough to win.

Speaker 15 (01:10:01):
Uh, we're guaranteed to be home for well obviously the
first round, yeah, first round, and then the second round,
the third round, the fourth round.

Speaker 8 (01:10:08):
Would depend on uh, a couple of others.

Speaker 6 (01:10:11):
Okay, other schools playing.

Speaker 25 (01:10:13):
Okay, I didn't know if that was one more after
because because I was looking at the schedule, it's obviously
Heritage new handover and then it may be Connley.

Speaker 6 (01:10:21):
Is that the Connie wins on the other side or
whatever on that.

Speaker 8 (01:10:24):
Yeah, I haven't looked that far ahead.

Speaker 6 (01:10:26):
H yeah. So so you know we're we're obviously excited
about it. We want to be here for three or
four more weeks. And so let's let's rock and all
get the job done.

Speaker 8 (01:10:33):
Let's do it. Let's let's uh, let's mess up everybody's thanksgiving.

Speaker 6 (01:10:36):
Absolute ladies and gentlemen, say you love to Bobby Well

Speaker 23 (01:11:58):
Of the game on Friday, and then he turns around
and he puts on a Jason Voorhees mask.

Speaker 6 (01:12:05):
I love it Halloween night. Jason Voorhees was mister Charles Smith,
and Tyler Campbell was Michael Myers, obviously, and ladies and
gentlemen fresh in from the work and her trip and
literally the plane landed. She hoteled in here. Kim Winslow,
how you doing man? What a great Halloween weekend.

Speaker 19 (01:12:24):
Hey, I'm still celebrating. I'm on a winning streak right now.
Yes comments winning on Friday NC State football winning big
win on Saturday Panthers.

Speaker 6 (01:12:33):
Caroline Marybay Oh, come on.

Speaker 19 (01:12:36):
NC State men win last night with the sold out crowd.
NC State women won today with an upset over a
ranked team. So I'm a winner.

Speaker 6 (01:12:46):
There you go, I'm a winner. You go, like with
that song about Jamie FONNX, You're looking at a winner.
There you go.

Speaker 19 (01:12:53):
But you know what, going into this week, I always
ask whether it's coaches, players, et how you feel, how
you feel this week? And every year I feel good,
I feel good. But this year it was something different.
There was a different conviction in the way people felt
this week. Did you feel that coach coming in on

(01:13:15):
Friday like there was a different kind of confidence this week.

Speaker 6 (01:13:19):
I did.

Speaker 15 (01:13:20):
I definitely definitely felt like that felt like that. Like
I said earlier that I think we were confident because
of our preparation. I think our preparation made us confident.
And you know, particularly, you know, like I said defensively
with you know, with the job that the that that
Bennett and Eddie and the rest of the staff there.

(01:13:42):
I think those guys, the staff instilled confidence in our
kids because of how prepared they were, and I think
they felt like when they took the field that there
wasn't going to be anything that they couldn't handle. And offensively,
you know, it was just a matter of you know,
trying to again find the right eleven guys to put

(01:14:03):
out there at times, because.

Speaker 8 (01:14:05):
You know, it was it was tough. We were missing.

Speaker 15 (01:14:08):
I don't think people quite understand the importance that River
Fiori is to our offense.

Speaker 8 (01:14:14):
And you know, with him, you know, he.

Speaker 15 (01:14:15):
Didn't practice one day last week, and and like I said,
he gutted it out on Friday enough that you know,
we could get some things done. And and the the
other part of River being out is our second tight end,
as Michael Alvarez, who had towards a c l in
the Garner game the week before. So you know that
that's what made that, you know, even worse. And then

(01:14:38):
you know, obviously without our center West and Barth.

Speaker 8 (01:14:42):
Terris.

Speaker 15 (01:14:43):
Terris is our big play guy. You know, he's the
guy you count on for to other than Aiden to
you know, to make the big play. So you know,
we had to find some other other ways to move
the ball, which we did. You know, Noah contributed, aid
and contributed. You know, Carson came in and completed, you know,
a couple of balls, one of which to Braden Price.
The third tight end you know, Carson hits him on

(01:15:04):
was a huge third down conversion on the I guess
that was the second touchdown drive. So we had some
different guys contribute.

Speaker 8 (01:15:14):
And again but no matter what, no matter who was out,
no matter what went.

Speaker 15 (01:15:20):
On during the week, I definitely felt there was a
real sense of confidence in what we were going to
do on Friday.

Speaker 19 (01:15:26):
Well, you just mentioned part of that drive, and I
was thinking, what was the drive of the game, and
there's two drives I couldn't decide, so I wanted to
kind of recap them, both, both of them in the
second half. In the third quarter, obviously, the Clayton starts
on our nineteen yard line. We have a huge third

(01:15:46):
and twelve from the comet seventeen. You just mentioned Carson
with a huge pass to and conversion to Braiden Price,
and I wanted to shout that out because on the
broadcast a different number was credited with that, but I
wanted to make sure it was number twenty six Bradon
Price for that twenty two yard game. Keeps the drive alive.
Then Aiden Smalls has a fifteen yard run, gets slung

(01:16:08):
on the sidelines, gets that personal foul penalty, moves it
up another fifteen yards.

Speaker 15 (01:16:14):
Let me say something about that too. He got thrown
down pretty violently, violent, well out of bounds on our side.
He did our kids, to their credit, now, they ran
over there and they were going to stick up for
their sick for him, But nobody did anything that you
tellatory exactly, and so we got the fifteen yards out
of it. Whereas you know a lot of places, you

(01:16:36):
know kids are going to react in a way that
it's going to take away the fifty you know, an
offset the fifteen yards. So I thought that was a
big play right there, that that they went over there
and they stock up for their guy.

Speaker 8 (01:16:47):
But we also made sure that we're going to keep
the fifteen yards too.

Speaker 6 (01:16:50):
Well.

Speaker 19 (01:16:51):
Speaking of that fifteen yard, then it was followed by
a fifteen yard pass interference penalty, So comments gained thirty
yards on penalties. But it comes up to a fourth
down and you five and you decide to go for it.
Is that because of the performance that the defense had
had that you knew either one we're going to get

(01:17:11):
this or our defense is going to hold them if
we don't.

Speaker 8 (01:17:16):
There was a lot that went into it. Did you
watch the other time we kicked a field goal?

Speaker 19 (01:17:20):
Yes, well that's well we're talking about spelling teams in
a little bit.

Speaker 6 (01:17:23):
That was but that's what I mean.

Speaker 19 (01:17:26):
So you know the option with that that wasn't an
option that was part of these So it was either
we go for it and we trust our defense if
we don't get it.

Speaker 15 (01:17:36):
If we didn't get it, you know, we were inside
the you know, fifteen yard line, so we were you know,
we were going to have them backed up. I didn't
you know, I wasn't Again, I just wasn't confident in
our operation at that point. And then you know, when
we lined up, didn't have a great honesty for what
the defense they were in. We didn't have a great

(01:17:57):
play call. And but I looked up and Adan's changing
the play and I'm like, you know what, We're gonna
roll with it because if he's changing it, he's got
an idea of what he wants to do. And instead
of calling time out, I said, hey, let's let's roll
with it.

Speaker 19 (01:18:12):
And he got that decisive play through it writes to
Tyler Campbell, and then.

Speaker 15 (01:18:15):
It ended up being a great call on his part
to change it and he made a I mean, if
you look from the TV view from the back of
the end zone, but that thing was like easy in
there and Tyler made a great catch. And so you know,
the third touchdown was obviously huge because it really kind

(01:18:36):
of put the game away. They'll talk about that drive,
that touchdown there, you know, to give us the two
score lead. I think everybody kind of breathed a little
bit there well.

Speaker 19 (01:18:47):
And it was an eighty one yard drive, yes, it was,
that was I mean, so that was that was huge.
Did we start the fourth quarter and essentially started at
the end of the third quarter, goes into the fourth quarter,
kind of start out on our own thirty eight huge
twenty yard pass from Aiden to Parker Ferguson that kind
of gets the drive going. You know, the previous drive

(01:19:09):
had been aided by some penalties, but this drive, it
was all comet offense. You had the twenty yard pass
from Aiden to Parker Ferguson, a seventeen yard run from
number two Aiden Smalls and mind you he earned that
run with those head fakes. You know, he broke broke
a couple ankles over there.

Speaker 15 (01:19:29):
Aiden left a guy on the ground, Yes he did.

Speaker 6 (01:19:32):
He earned that.

Speaker 19 (01:19:33):
He fought for those. Then a nineteen yard run from
number one Noah, Noah Smith, Noah's sitting over there, Yep,
earned that. And then I want to know on on
one of the next plays, there was a pass into
the end zone to Parker Ferguson. They call pass interference,
which it was, but it certainly looked like one Parker

(01:19:54):
caught the ball. His feet were in bounds. Yes, from
another angle, did he come down with that?

Speaker 8 (01:20:00):
Maybe you look at the TV version.

Speaker 19 (01:20:02):
You can't tell if his elbow hit, but heck of
a play by Parker could have been a touchdown.

Speaker 15 (01:20:07):
You know, that's the guy on their sidelines. You know
he's a good official. But I think what happened there,
he was so so intent on throwing the flat.

Speaker 19 (01:20:15):
Yes, he was focused on the flag.

Speaker 15 (01:20:17):
He took his eyes off and he didn't see that
Parker actually caught the ball.

Speaker 19 (01:20:22):
And that's why I want to give credit to Parker
because that looked like a hell of a catch. Could
have been a touchdown regardless. So you know, you think,
oh goodness, gets a third and goal. Aiden drops back
to pass, scrambles out to the right it looks like
he's going to get stopped on the four yard line.
I was right on the sideline and he whiled his

(01:20:42):
way into the end zone.

Speaker 6 (01:20:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:20:45):
And I've been telling them all game, hey, don't be
afraid to use your legs.

Speaker 15 (01:20:50):
A matter of fact, the past the Parker on that drive,
I'm over on the sidelence, going run, run, run, nice
catch Parker.

Speaker 6 (01:20:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:20:57):
So yeah, I mean, his he's he's.

Speaker 15 (01:21:01):
A weapon when he runs, So we're always fine when
he runs. And but that one was, you know, that
was a little different. Aiden you know, he's usually you know,
not the guy that you know, makes breaks, tackles and
things like that.

Speaker 4 (01:21:15):
That was.

Speaker 19 (01:21:19):
He had three or four defenders on him. I mean,
his jersey was stretched about as far as it could go.
They were trying to keep him out of the end
zone and he was not going to have it. The
thing is that that touchdown was so big, but the
extra point was even bigger. And I know everybody still
held their breath after already having a blocked field goal,
a blocked extra point, and everybody knew what that extra

(01:21:42):
point meant, no doubt.

Speaker 15 (01:21:44):
And obviously, like you said, that makes it a three
score game. And really kind of you know, puts puts
him in a really difficult situation. So I usually, I
mean I was very intently watching the extra point.

Speaker 19 (01:21:58):
Well, and and when we talk about special teams, there
was some good in bed that the good holy smokes.
The coverage teams. They they down those those returners at
the ten yard line.

Speaker 15 (01:22:10):
I thought twice our kickoff coverage was the best it's
been in probably a couple of years.

Speaker 8 (01:22:14):
Here.

Speaker 15 (01:22:16):
We made some some personnel changes there and a couple
of those guys Jordan Ham had two times yes on
the kickoff team. You know, Austin Dalton, who is kind
of our jack jack of all trades. He you know,
plays receiver, He's played some dB there and he's on
every single one of our special teams. You know, he

(01:22:36):
made a couple of tackles bradon Probes. Just yeah, our
kickoff coverage was great. Our punk coverage was great, you know,
and even I said this on our team meeting yesterually.
You know, Nate Lunger has done a lot of great
things for us this year from a kicking standpoint, but
the best play he's made all seasons might have been

(01:22:57):
tackling that guy on the block field goal, because I
don't know how he did it.

Speaker 19 (01:23:01):
I mean I still don't I had seen the replay
three times and I still don't know.

Speaker 8 (01:23:04):
How that kid picked up the ball.

Speaker 15 (01:23:06):
The only chance I thought we had was maybe Aiden
could maneuver through the crowd and catch the guy, and somehow,
you know, Nate got to him and pulled him down.
I think, honestly, I think what happened was the guys
that were out there block and were so intent on
blocking Aiden because they thought he was the one that
they missed Nate, if he was somehow able to.

Speaker 19 (01:23:25):
Move, Nate brought down the big guy.

Speaker 8 (01:23:28):
That was a four point tackle. Oh and by the way,
four point tackle.

Speaker 6 (01:23:32):
By the way, last night, I took four and a
half hour broadcast coverage and condensed it to fifteen minutes
of highlights, and we're thinking of doing it sometime during
the game, but we said during the show we'd wait
till the end. If you want to go back and
listen to those highlights, it will be all of a sudden,
we get off the air with the coach, we will
play that fifteen minute highlight reel because it has all
of those plays and more on the offense and defense

(01:23:53):
for that combats twenty three win. If you just want
to take a trip down memory lane from last Friday night.

Speaker 19 (01:23:57):
Yeah, well, you know, throughout the game there was so
many big plays and on defense, I kept asking, what
did they feed that defense at dinner. I've never seen
them hit so hard that the tackles in the open field.

Speaker 15 (01:24:11):
Got to give a shout the Fellowship Baptist. We are
never lost a game when Fellowship Baptist does the pregame meal.

Speaker 19 (01:24:18):
Are they available during the playoffs?

Speaker 8 (01:24:20):
They've never never.

Speaker 4 (01:24:21):
Lost the game.

Speaker 19 (01:24:22):
And I kept saying during the game the only thing
missing was a turnover until Charles Smith with the with
the interception there in the in the fourth quarter. It
is two more things.

Speaker 6 (01:24:34):
One.

Speaker 19 (01:24:35):
There were some people that said that the comments came
out into midfield after the game to taunt the other team.
But it was all about meeting at the sea and
talk about why protecting that scene, why that what that
see represents to that community, and why those kids wanted
to go out there and celebrate on their sea.

Speaker 15 (01:24:57):
I mean, it's a big part of what the program
is about. It's a out, it's about to see, it's
about the town, it's about protecting our town. You know,
it's it's in our program's mission statement that you know,
we are there to help bond and help bring our
town and our school together. That's part of what we are,
It's part of who we are. We take so much

(01:25:17):
pride in the fact that we are part of our
town and our town supports our program and and and
that's something again that Bennett's brought back this year too,
is that we're gonna, we're gonna, you know, we're going
to protect the sea and and that was obviously our
way of doing that. And you know, no disrespect to

(01:25:38):
them or anything, but you know, we're we're Clayton. We
are Clayton, and and we were you know, that was
just our way we I think we've done that after
most of our home games, so it wasn't like that
was something new that we did well.

Speaker 19 (01:25:52):
It was a fantastic finish. I know, you talked about
the bye week getting people healthy, and it looked like
we got out prequently. I know, we didn't have any
took a big shot to the to the ribs, but
we seemed pretty good, right.

Speaker 15 (01:26:06):
We didn't we didn't have any new injuries. You know,
still have concerns over. You know, the guys from that
didn't play last week where we are now, particularly you know,
we got to get River in terrace healthy.

Speaker 19 (01:26:21):
Can I make one more ask? One more question? So
I felt like I felt like I'm fully good. But
I felt like coming into this game that both teams
all season probably had some special plays in their pocket.
One it didn't look like we pulled out a lot
of plays.

Speaker 15 (01:26:44):
You know, there was some stuff we had that I
as the game went on, I just you know, I wasn't, as.

Speaker 19 (01:26:51):
You said, you made decisions on how you play depending
on how the game was.

Speaker 15 (01:26:57):
That we have are kind of high high reward, high risk. Anyway,
the way our defense was playing, I didn't feel like
the risk were worth it.

Speaker 20 (01:27:06):
You know.

Speaker 15 (01:27:06):
The touchdown to Parker, that was something that we've It
wasn't a quote trick play, but it's it's something that
we've been doing all year, and we made it look
like something we've been doing all year, and they were
ready for what they thought we were going to do
and we did something else.

Speaker 19 (01:27:24):
So but at the same time, the opponent pulled out
a pass to the left tackle behind it, And I
just want to clarify people because I think there was
some confusion. He was behind the line of scrimmage. It
was a back.

Speaker 15 (01:27:38):
There's a little bit pool that I think I needed
to check on. There's something that you can't just automatically
throw it to him even though it's a lateral. There's
other there's another part of that rule that I need
to look up that I think they they missed.

Speaker 8 (01:27:52):
But whatever.

Speaker 19 (01:27:54):
Hopefully we can keep some of those plays in our
pocket as we get ready for the playoffs.

Speaker 8 (01:27:58):
We'll be fine.

Speaker 6 (01:27:59):
Were you ready? There you go, ladies and gentlemen, having
a round of applause for our lead All State sideline
reporter Kim wins Love. Kim, thank you all right. So,
as I mentioned, before we go off the air, we've

a half hours long being on the air, and we

offense and defense and put it into a highlight reel.

to the kids at the at the after the game
was over Friday, was enjoy this.

Speaker 8 (01:29:21):
You know, we're gonna take some time to enjoy it.
But it's not an end. It's it's not an end.
It's just the beginning.

Speaker 15 (01:29:28):
And uh and hopefully that we have many more of
those on field celebrations, you know, for the next you know,
month or so.

Speaker 6 (01:29:36):
Yes, you told me last night on the phone you
want to be ready to play on Thanksgiving night.

Speaker 15 (01:29:41):
Well, you know, I think it was kind of you know,
perfect that that was Halloween because now we can talk
about three different holidays that we can be a part of.
That's right, Halloween, we can be a part of Thanksgiving.
And if we you know a fortunate enough to keep playing,
we'll be right there about Christmas time too.

Speaker 6 (01:30:00):
Give a gift to the town of Clayton's which hopefully
will be a state championship. But it's always one game
at a time. We await heritage or new handover they
played this Friday night, we have a bye. We're back
here for commence Football Weekly right here at Vincent's next Tuesday,

Because this is a.

Speaker 27 (01:30:58):
Rivalry game, and I was trying to walk around to
the other side tonight. They would let you until I
saw they had a take off and a squad car
sitting over there, and some of the kids said, this
is a Rattley game. You can't cross over there goes
you know what, what, you know what?

Speaker 6 (01:31:18):
I have to do it to let him do it.
I have to let him do it. Cleveland, Clayton, the
Comics already, and here comes Cleveland. They've been working on

(01:31:39):
Ladies and Gentlemen, the fiftheenth edition, the Cleveland Rams, the
Clayton Comics. The Joco Football Bowl for the conference championship
of twenty twenty five is underway up here, second and
twenty two. No penalties right now here comes now Holbert. Oh,
we have throw Hulbert made and then I gotta stop him,

(01:32:00):
rapp him. I'm gonna stop him in a big slim
two or three defenders are there, Number thirteen lay in
the lumber Akkramel. That guy's gonna go somewhere. Division one,
go to Eden Smalls. Smalls will fake it, He's gonna fire.
He can do it. Wide open man. It's called is

(01:32:21):
what one top ladies and gentlemen. God was close to
what sixty two yards by Aiden Smalls.

Speaker 4 (01:32:33):
There it is.

Speaker 6 (01:32:34):
There were such points by the Comets quarterback. That's Parker Ferguson,
by the way, that caught the football, number number seventeen.
Parker Ferguson to the end zone right now thirty five.
It's probably the first kickle we've seen the Comets offense
end tonight thirty five rams show blitz open man cash bay.

(01:33:00):
There's Dalton. The name is Dawthartown. That's Austin Dalton catching
the football. The sophomore wide receiver. Move the chains another
first and ten in their head of the red zonemark
Carson now first and ten ball on the thirty. This
game will be a roller coaster ride like you're at
the state Fair. Don't get dizzy motion movement. Here comes

(01:33:20):
now Holbert QB Keiper.

Speaker 28 (01:33:22):
He goes nowhere.

Speaker 6 (01:33:23):
They stop him. Big stops made by number twenty four
and number twenty on the defense are thirty four and twenty.
Is it to their advantage more penalties tonight on Cleveland
than Clayton. Hulbert opened to run on the Cleveland side
two or three minute.

Speaker 4 (01:33:40):
They got it go.

Speaker 6 (01:33:42):
Big stop. So that was Codwell, number twenty seven, Kayden Blackwell,
My apologies Blackwell on the tackle. Then Hulbert now fires.
It's enter the leg incomplete. Yes, time and there is
de Flock no likes, Kim Winslow clicks Kim Wingslow. Clayton

(01:34:07):
defense flawless right now, that was perfect two man defense
coverage incomplete for Wyat Codwell. Brony Bournes now will go
for the field goal?

Speaker 4 (01:34:19):
It is up?

Speaker 6 (01:34:21):
Will it go?

Speaker 18 (01:34:22):
It is good?

Speaker 6 (01:34:24):
So the Rams are on the board after a field
goal by number thirty four Broni Bourne's the kicker junior
it so the tomout's over. They iced the offense, they
ic the quarterback, and the Rams are gonna come back
out now with a fourth and two on the three
and the comments are as loud as we've heard them

(01:34:46):
since the TV. Will they stop them, stop them stop
they stop loud?

Speaker 23 (01:34:51):
They gotta blow the play dead? Yes, oh no, no, no,
they're there's two penalties.

Speaker 6 (01:35:02):
One of the birth house, one of the comics say
it's football back here, it's comics football.

Speaker 29 (01:35:07):
Both the penalties on the Rams and comments go into
the half leading.

Speaker 6 (01:35:14):
Seven to three, seven to three. All right, let's see
what Holbert will do. Oh wow, baby, almost almost picked,
almost picked, you almost had it number three common secondary
sy Sean Walker. You were almost there staying it, guys,
And now we gotta.

Speaker 12 (01:35:34):
Stop holmer Holm through option. No no no, no no no, no, no, no, nope,
I'm not gonna fly. This has gotta be on Cleveland. Nope,
no there, it's not gonna bring it. They are not
showing a touchdown. There is a die touchdown.

Speaker 6 (01:35:51):
There is penalties on Cleveland. It might be both penalties
on the rams. That will not be a touchdown. You
ran for nothing to the zone. All boil boy, Halvart,
make a stop Blackwell, this is a big throw another
monster hit No one start, no flies, gleam number twenty one.

(01:36:20):
Stop that's Daniel Lovelace, Davis, Daniel Lovelace, Davis. Cleveland got
greedy and they turn it over at midfield right on
the fame to the original Sea of Clayton football ten
ball on the forty eight coming up here, Kim, this

(01:36:40):
is uh setting up to be another Monster Classic. It
just would not be either of any other way.

Speaker 19 (01:36:47):
Than I was gonna say, wouldn't be Clayton Cleveland.

Speaker 6 (01:36:49):
If it wasn't, You're right, the emotion, the intensity the game,
the struggle, the thrill of victory and the agony of
defeat when it's said and done. Here in two more
quarters comets. Eight minutes left in the third, and they're
gonna go to Smalls. Smalls, Oh you know what.

Speaker 19 (01:37:09):
It's all Lawrence pass.

Speaker 6 (01:37:14):
Why would you not throw the flag? Are you serious? Okay?
I think they might be working on the option. Just
look for it. Here comes Jones fires Willie, Yes, he will.
There it is, and there it is.

Speaker 9 (01:37:29):
I told you it was.

Speaker 4 (01:37:30):
Comment.

Speaker 6 (01:37:31):
Wow, Carson Jones is just an absolutely different type of
quarterback than Aiden Smalls. But he found his man. I
believe it was number eighty six that caught the football
of Marcus Stainton Ford. They're going forth on.

Speaker 23 (01:37:48):
Fourth down and four, fourth and five, They're going forth.

Speaker 6 (01:37:54):
They're gonna try to draw Cleveland off sides. They've done
it many times tonight, play clock, trying to force Cleveland
to jump perfect. Will they go? No, Small's fourth and five?
Come man?

Speaker 15 (01:38:09):
Throw got.

Speaker 2 (01:38:14):
Happy?

Speaker 6 (01:38:15):
Happy Happy Halloween.

Speaker 30 (01:38:17):
Happy Halloween. Tyler Campbell, Happy Halloween, Tyler Campbell, The Michael
Myers and the Comets touchdown on Halloween Night, his favorite
night cunch, Tyler Campbell Halloween Night touchdown.

Speaker 6 (01:38:35):
Second in tenem it's twenty five. Pity they're running into
like a Halbert to Bennett and the Comets defense read it.

Speaker 19 (01:38:46):
That was Christian Schmidt came busting through the line and
he read that.

Speaker 6 (01:38:50):
Perfectly, Our buddy, Christian Schmidt, number eleven, the senior linebacker,
sixty five pounds. Mark, What a great stop there, coming
up with a third and long here or control and
another score. I think this should do it, no mistakes. Right,
you're in the head of the Rams right now. It's
nightmare on Fayettville Street for the Cleveland Rams. Second and twelve,

(01:39:13):
US here comes down Smalls, they're Smalls. He'll run, he'll
throw line down. What a drive. Parker Ferguson, by the way,
he was the man that started the offense with touchdowns.
He had five touchdowns tonight.

Speaker 28 (01:39:31):
Don't jink yourself about this team tonight.

Speaker 6 (01:39:34):
Right, Clayton's fired up, I think, and you know what
I think. Another thing is they're fed up of Cleveland. Yeah,
all right, it's like the bully that picks on you
all the time, constantly picking on you, picking on you,
and then Daddy says, just hit him in their snod
boss one good time and get their attention. Well, let's
just say this, no disrespect out there in common country.

(01:39:54):
But they're playing some damn good football. Yep, they're doing
good football, Jackie. I just want to make an observation.

Speaker 26 (01:40:00):
We made it a point to say that Cleveland showed
up with the sign that says kill Clayton.

Speaker 6 (01:40:04):
Yeah with a seat.

Speaker 12 (01:40:05):
If you notice Clayton's starting to kill that sign because
he's starting to.

Speaker 6 (01:40:09):
Come, starting to come down, Smalls for him to run.
He gets on his feet, he want to stick took.
That was just a little bit of a challenge.

Speaker 23 (01:40:27):
And the Hickey shuffle and the boot strip and small
spots the exault touchdown Dobbins.

Speaker 18 (01:40:39):
Just when you think he's about to get wrapped up,
Oh wow.

Speaker 6 (01:40:43):
He tends out of it, punches into the end zone
of the touch This p a t for Nate Longer,
as Mark coach said, will make it three down, a
three gold, three score lead. Smalls, who just got to
touch that. We'll now prior for this.

Speaker 4 (01:41:03):
It is.

Speaker 6 (01:41:04):
Yeah, it's good.

Speaker 15 (01:41:05):
Cleg Arley there he goes starling.

Speaker 23 (01:41:08):
Clean Darley seventeen point lead, twenty to three station identific.

Speaker 6 (01:41:20):
Do you think, Mark, obviously.

Speaker 12 (01:41:21):
It looks like the stands across the field or started leaving.

Speaker 6 (01:41:25):
Are they starting to leaving? Are people said Cleveland leaving?

Speaker 4 (01:41:29):
It's not over.

Speaker 6 (01:41:32):
Jordan Ham.

Speaker 3 (01:41:37):
In the ark.

Speaker 23 (01:41:38):
Mark couln't even think the quarterbackmatics realized that Ham was
had him in his sight.

Speaker 6 (01:41:44):
He unleveled him. I don't think he realized he was there.
Third and fifteen, Jackie, I know I would not be relentless.
I wouldn't let off the gas. Shout out to the
late Bruce Barry that he've done it to us tonight.
It's return of the favor. Hulbert fires.

Speaker 23 (01:42:13):
Before it hit the turn interception interception number ten. Charles
Smith and Ryan Tomford get ready to find the turnover chain.
Get ready to find good turnover Chaine. Charles Smith is
Jason for He's you got Michael Myers for Tyler Campbell.

Speaker 6 (01:42:35):
And I missed the first the first down. My bad
paid attention to me on the way.

Speaker 8 (01:42:39):
Sorry it is.

Speaker 6 (01:42:40):
It's good to get the moment. I'll get the video
of it because this game is about to be electric.
Ladies and gentlemen, for the first time since twenty seven teen,
twenty seventeen. The celebration is on at Nixon Filer Stadium.

(01:43:01):
Ladies and gentlemen, it is over.

Speaker 3 (01:43:04):
Where that water there is.

Speaker 6 (01:43:07):
He's throwing a fit. Mark run the clock, running Plock.
They're just running the clock. They know it's over.

Speaker 23 (01:43:15):
They're over.

Speaker 6 (01:43:16):
Scott Riley has walked on the field in defeat and says,
you've done it. You've won.

Speaker 15 (01:43:22):
My ba, my ba.

Speaker 6 (01:43:28):
They're running the clock. Ryan, show the clock, please, whoolock.
It's like a big moment, first time since twenty seventeen. Comments,
great news, seven eight conference champions. It's over, it's over.
It's your first time since twenty seventeen. The Comets have

(01:43:50):
slaughtered the rams, they pulled their horns.

Speaker 4 (01:43:53):
It's over.

Speaker 6 (01:43:54):
Twenty to three.

Speaker 20 (01:43:58):
Does this mean for you and this team? It means
so much to me because I wanted it for these kids,
and I wanted it for this town. And I'm just
so excited that I could give it, we could give
it to them.

Speaker 29 (01:44:10):
And on being here a while and your new home
games after a bye week to rest and prepare.

Speaker 20 (01:44:17):
Congratulations coach, Hey, great night, Congratulations all the comments out there.

Speaker 6 (01:44:21):
I'm so proud of the guys and the work they
put in.

Speaker 21 (01:44:24):
I told them on Monday, we're gonna prepare to win,
but if we execute, we will dominate.

Speaker 6 (01:44:29):
We just have to fix us. It seemed like in games.

Speaker 21 (01:44:32):
Past, even this year, they when we've messed up, it's
us messing up, and teams, good teams capitalize on that.
And so if we get lined up right, if we
don't jump off sides, if we do the things that
we don't hurt ourselves, if we just play and we
get a goal line staying in the first half because
we play another play, and then in the second half
we just straight dominated.

Speaker 6 (01:44:50):
I'm so proud of our coaches and the coaches work
that we put in.

Speaker 29 (01:44:53):
I think I can explain and put into words the
excitement down. I think the kids, these guys, we're on
a mission. They had a plan and they executed it
to perfection.

Speaker 6 (01:45:08):
Let them celebrate, boys, Let them sleep on the turf
all night.

Speaker 28 (01:45:14):
Take it in at a moment, Uh, unbelievable, mind, what
a moment I mean these I mean, this is a memory,
a game these young men will take with them the
rest of their lives.

Speaker 6 (01:45:28):
I don't think anybody.
