(00:02):
Welcome to town, Avra. I'mgonna bother you for the greater good of
cryptic kind. I guess you didn'ttell them everything. Then it's not a
bad idea, Okay. I thinkwe're gonna need a change of plants.
Season five, Episode one, Watershed. Everything is wrong in Water's Edge everything.
(00:45):
Over the course of barely two weeks, every aspect of this town and
my life in it, has beenturned on its head. Every crypted inexistence
knows who I really am, ahuman bringing doom, and a large percentage
of them probably wish the Kendy wentthrough with their plans, and I live
in a town full of them fornow, at least that may change once
(01:07):
the High Council gets a hold ofme. As soon as they found out,
the High Council ordered the WPD tolock down the entrances to the island,
meaning that everyone commuting out to mainlandjobs or school has to go through
daily checks to get in and out. They also called for a meeting with
representatives from all the crypted Cape towns, of which they'll be presiding over in
(01:29):
our very owned city hall two daysfrom now. Can't wait. Town officials
around the world were promptly filled inon all the shit that's happened, the
discovery of the prophecy, Kendy's investigationand turned to our side, my humanness.
And now they're all here in somecapacity waiting to have a meeting about
(01:52):
something. The High Council hasn't beenvery clear on what this all town gathering
entails. They refused to tell Kendyanything, though she doubts that they'll bother
trying to erase my mind again atthis point, Well, that doesn't really
give me the comfort I wish itdid, and I'm still here. Somehow,
(02:15):
I think I've convinced myself that thisprophecy has to be true, and
High Council must believe it too, because there's no way i'd still be here
sitting in my office at the weeklyjust waiting for them to show up if
it weren't for the hands of fate. That's it. Case closed. We're
all doomed, and yet I stillhave deadlines. I'm staring the end of
(02:38):
days in the face of my lifefalling apart around me, future completely uncertain,
and I have to pretend like everything'sfine so I can keep getting paid.
I have to cover the High councilmeeting, as if I'm not the
reason it's happening in the first place. I mean, it's not like anyone's
going to read it. No one'sgoing to buy a paper written by the
human that's ruining their lives. Whyam I here? Why haven't I ran
(03:04):
yet? I mean, Jenkins wouldn'tstop me. Shiah would come with me.
Most of this town hates me,or at the very least doesn't trust
me. There are a million otherplaces I could go where my life would
be just as normal as before Imoved here. I would blend right in
and have a boring job and aregular paper with humans that are just as
not special as I am. Iwouldn't be on the verge of a panic
(03:25):
attack every time I go out inpublic, from all the side eyes and
whisperers and pointed looks. I wouldget away from the near constant danger I've
been in for almost a year now. So why am I still here?
(03:50):
Hello? Avrah, you said you'dbe home by now. I need help
making stuff nice for my mom andReese. I don't know where you keep
the pin sal I don't own pineand saw Sim. I don't even know
what that stuff does. Shya saidyou two had it under control. I
thought we did, and then civilstarted panicking. It finally said in that
(04:10):
my mom's going to be here, the first place I've ever lived on my
own. She complains enough about myroom back home, and she'll be in
a mood from flying. The lastthing I need is for her to question
me living on my own and tryingto convince me to move back in.
Breathe, It'll be fine. It'soffs house anyway. If she doesn't like
anything, just blame her. Wow. Thanks, you keep the house super
(04:33):
clean and nice off. I loveliving here, really, but Lucinda notices
everything. Not that there's really evenanything to notice, since everything's so great,
but she'd find something even if itwasn't really there. And it's okay,
I was joking. The house couldstand to be a bit cleaner.
I know. I think it's greathow it is. Then why are we
(04:56):
still cleaning? Well? Because it'sfine, sib, I know what you
mean. Living clean and parents visitingclean are two very different things. What
else is there to do? Gottamop the floors, clear out some room
for Reese's blow up mattress, takethe garbage out, clean the oh my
god, the roast. I neverput the roast in. It's in the
(05:16):
oven. Should be ready at seventhirty sharp. Really, Oh you are
life saver? Shya? Hello?Hello? The party squad is a rive,
boy, not the party squad,Not tonight? Why not? Reese's
(05:41):
coming to town. The whole gang'sback together? Are plus my mother?
Loosen the can party? I mean, speaking of the whole gang? Where's
off here on the phone? Stillat work? Well, you better get
your butt over here soon, orwe'll be hosting a party at your house
without you. It's not a party. I'm finishing a little more work and
(06:01):
then I'll head home, I promise. Oh. I know for a fact
you're not doing anything productive with theHigh Council in town. But that's not
true. Really, what have yougotten done since they arrived yesterday? I
changed the layout on page three andthen I changed it back. Sounds about
right, Come on, off,we brought Charkouerie. Well I can't say
(06:25):
no to little cheeses. I'll headout in a minute. Yay. Oh
thank god? Seeven? If youlove drive safe, we'll do see you
soon. I guess there are somegood reasons why I'm still here. Oh
(06:46):
my god Reese. So what didyou end up doing? Well? I
gave her a form. I meanit wasn't the right form, but I
mean she got something. And thenI got to figure out why someone was
submitting information but a law bird ona small business tax document. I might
not have been the best choice foryour replacement. So hey, half the
(07:09):
time I didn't know what I wasdoing either. Isn't that like all jobs,
new ones, at least fake ittill you make it right, unless
you're a nurse like Shaya, andthen you probably shouldn't do that. That's
what residencies for. Well, I'mglad to see everyone's in good spirits despite
the circumstances. Me to bring downthe mood. Mom, someone needs to
(07:32):
address the elephant in the room.I think we're doing a fine job ignoring
it. Hey, maybe I shouldmake a little elephant trunk to wear to
the High Council meeting. Embrace it. It's nothing against you, Avra.
I'm glad that you folks all seemto be faring all right on the surface.
But is everything still you know safe? Mom, We're fine. I'm
(07:58):
just concerned for you, all ofyou. This whole High Council business and
the demon possession with that poor girl, it's a lot. How was she
doing, by the way, Jacquelinewas it? Her name is Juliette,
juliet right right? I don't reallyknow. Actually, after her possession,
I made sure she was physically allright. But you know, that was
(08:20):
almost two weeks ago. Offers usuallyin touch with her most usually. I
haven't seen her since everything went down. Actually Ben had her and mar over
a couple of nights ago. Ididn't talk to her much, but she
seemed fine all things considered. Ohthat's good, Thank goodness. I can't
believe we're dealing with demons and seamonsters and towns being exposed, and this
(08:46):
whole prophecy with we have a cake? Should Should I go get the cake?
You make cake? No? Webought a cake, chocolate, strawberry.
Oh I'd like some cake, metoo? Do you want help with
it? Sure? Everybody want apiece? Reese? I probably shouldn't allergic
(09:09):
to strawberry. Oh my god,I completely forgot. It's okay, I
don't need cake. How about Igo grab something else? Oh? No,
Auvrey, you don't have to No, no, I insist, I'm
not gonna make you sit here andwatch the rest of us heat. But
really you don't need to big pieright peach, blueberry apple or something like
that. Mm I do love ablueberry pie. But really it's no buts.
(09:33):
It'll take ten minutes, not evenyou want us to come with you.
I've got it. I'll be rightback. Excuse me, sir,
Can you tell me what i'le thesalad dressing is in? Yes? Oh,
hey, guys, what are youdoing here? Just thought we'd surprise
(09:54):
you during your shift and we hadthis, a new weird flavor of orios
watch stocking frutios of fun. Didyou expect my restocking job to be exciting?
I guess not. How's it beenso far? Nothing crazy, which
is honestly a nice break from everythingelse. I've only had a few shifts
(10:16):
though. Discover any dark secrets aboutthe world of grocery stores, Not yet,
but I don't know if there aremany, you'd be surprised. I
read an article once about all theways grocery stores secretly manipulate you to make
you buy more. Does it explainwhy they cycle through the same fifteen songs
every hour? Actually it does.It has all to do with the oh
(10:39):
what's wrong? Hold on, whyare you hiding behind the restock cars?
I saw someone I don't want tosee right now? Who was this?
One of the High Council members. No, keep your voices down. It
was Ovra. Why are you hidingfrom Ovra? I'm not hiding. I
just I haven't seen her since everythinghappened, since I gave up her secret.
(11:05):
Oh right, it wasn't you,Jules. That's what thus had.
You possessed. Avra knows that, but getting possessed was still my fault.
Not really well, I still feelguilty for it, and I just don't
want to see her right now.If you talk to her, I'm sure
everything would be fine. Yeah it'sAvrah, I know, but Juliet see
(11:31):
later. Ben, come on,Maury, where are we going? We're
leaving. We haven't gotten the funoreos yet. We can get them later.
I didn't walk all the way hereto not try the very smoothie oreos.
Juliets, come on, they're liketwo aisles over. Fine, m
(11:54):
I don't see them anywhere. Theymust not have them. Oh well,
let's leave, not so fast. They might be on an end's cap.
You go look down there. I'llcheck the ones in front, Marie,
I want to leave, not withoutmy orios. But I, oh my
(12:18):
gosh, I'm so sorry. Iwasn't looking for going in Ovra. Hey,
how are you? I haven't seenyou since in like two weeks we
postponed mentoring. Yeah, have yourparents changed their minds yet about what you
said? They weren't happy with thementoring because of all the Oh right,
(12:41):
yeah, not yet. Sorry,Okay, you know, if your parents
don't want you associated with me,you can tell me. I understand.
Why did you say it like that? Like what? Like weird? I
don't know, because I don't knowwhat's going on with you. You never
listen to your parents rules. Ifyou've really wanted to keep meeting up,
(13:03):
you would have figured out ten differentways to do it already. Well,
I don't know why you'd want mearound anyway, since I ruined your life.
That's what this is about. Well, duh. I don't know how
many sories are required for making adeal with a demon that exposed your deepest,
darkest secret and threatened your life andruin everything. But I don't think
there's enough time in the average pixielife to save them all. I just
(13:26):
assumed you'd want me gone, Juliet, I don't blame you for any of
this. Well you should. Ifucked up really bad, so did I.
It doesn't matter. I forgive youyou do of course. Also,
as your mentor, it is myresponsibility to scold you for cursing, especially
in a grocery store. That isfucking unacceptable. Sorry, I was avoiding
(13:52):
you. No more sorries, Noneed to dwell on what already happened,
when there is plenty we can worryabout in the present, like finding a
pie and getting back to the party. I'm avoiding Who's party? Who send
in Reese's or mine? Kind of? I don't know they're here, arrived
earlier today. Yeah, I thoughtLucinda and Reese were nice, at least
(14:13):
from what Sybil said about them.Oh, yeah, they're great. It's
just it's a little hard to bethe current event of the century, I
guess. Oh yeah. Every conversationcomes back to the meeting or the prophecy
or Kenny's investigation. I needed abreak and a pie. Looks good.
(14:33):
You were going to talk about themeeting, weren't you. I don't have
to, It's fine, you're going. I think I have to you.
Yeah, I managed to convince myparents to let me skip school. Impressive,
and to do that. They thinkit'll be a good lesson on how
political systems work in times of crisis. They also like it when I support
(14:56):
my friends, so they aren't upsetabout me being a human. I go
to school with a bunch of humans, Abraa. If my parents had a
problem with it, they probably wouldn'thave let it happen. I don't think
your classmates are prophesized to be yourdoom though. They don't believe in any
of that stuff. They're pixies, but they also both work in stem They
aren't the kind of people to believein fate, or at least not the
(15:18):
kind of can't change jewels. Wefound them and was hiding them from us.
I was not. I barely knowwhere anything is here. I'll let
you get back to your friends.Okay, good luck with the party,
Thanks, abrah Yeah. Would youhave time for a mentoring thing next week?
(15:39):
Yeah? Yeah, I'm sure wecan figure something out. All right,
My mom is gone. Time tobreak out the alcohol. Cheers to
that. I'm at had been concernedabout the way you handle stress, my
(16:02):
love, especially considering it seems hereditary. Hey, but we could talk healthy
copy mechanisms after this week's over.Let's see if Julius is still willing to
have me as a client or else. I'm going to have to find someone
else to trauma dump on. That'swhy we're here. You guys are my
friends, not my therapist. Wecan be both for now, as long
(16:22):
as that goes both ways. BecauseI need to vent corred ahead. I'd
love to hear about problems that aren'tmy fault for once. Excellent, because
I am so completely done with mydad's stupid restaurant and with Roxy. I
thought she wasn't involved anymore. Shewasn't. That ship sailed in my dad's
mind when the human hunt started, and now that he's seen how bad Ovres
(16:45):
had it over the past couple ofweeks, he definitely doesn't want anyone from
our family involved in stuff going onin Water's Edge, especially not Roxy,
who's Roxy Francie's sister, one ofseveral that made my life a living hell
for sixteen years. Oh, comeon, you love Roxy? Not right
now? She was talking to mydad about the restaurant and my plans on
(17:07):
how to run things when I actuallytake it over at the end of the
summer and she had some issues.Well, she did go to culinary school
and minored in business, so yeah, she's perfect in every way and clearly
the better option. Yeah, weget it. But she calls my dad
and tells him about all the waysI'm fucking things up and why everything I'm
(17:27):
planning is going to fail, andwhy she's the way better choice to take
over the restaurant, And then theyboth call me to explain how business works
is if I don't basically run hoppingWater already. Wait, so do you
want to run the restaurant or No? No, absolutely not, But ROXY
can't either, and no one elseor my family can. Dad isn't going
(17:51):
to retire until he can leave itto one of us, and I'm the
only one. My dad's getting older, and I don't want to be the
reason he has to keep working. But Rock he knows all of this,
And no, she can't run theplace herself because she's human. So instead
she's just telling my dad all theways I'm going to destroy his business from
the inside out because I'm not hisperfect daughter who went to culinary school.
Oh that's rough, and not gettingto see Caleb during like the three days
(18:15):
we weren't on citywide lockdown is justthe cherry on top of this garbage Sunday.
I know it's nothing compared to thebigger stuff we're dealing with, but
it's not nothing. It's a lotand it sucks. Hey. Maybe whatever
the council decides to do will makeyour dad consider bringing your sister back in.
(18:37):
Maybe, But that sounds like along shot. Hey, sometimes long
shots hit, like my job interviews. Wait, what did you get a
job? Well, not yet,but I did get asked to interview for
three places. I know we're supposedto be venting, but I just I'm
so excited. Lizzie, that's great. Congratulations. Yeay, it is so
(19:02):
nice to hear some good news.Where have you been applying to? Oh,
lots of different places. Some entrylevel stuff in local government on the
mainland, a few activism groups thatare pretty big in the area, the
census. I've got some interviews linedup for two of the local government ones,
and then one for administration work ata group that helps worker unions when
(19:23):
they're just starting up. That soundsreally cool. Yeah, fingers crossed on
that one. Oh, I hopeso I'm also hoping that working on the
mainland won't continue to be such ahassle Ben said that just getting to school
is taking almost half an hour longereach way because of the island checkpoints that
were set up. Of course, now that I finally got my o Brews
(19:45):
under control and don't have to dealwith surprise visions, there is another thing
making it harder for me to finda place to work. So they can't
keep that stuff up for long.Yeah, once the High Council is gone,
it'll go back to normal. It'snot like they can cut us off
forever. What about you, Reese, What have you been up to besides
terrorizing everyone who needs anything done atthe Mayor's office. Of course I got
(20:08):
the hang of it eventually, kindof, although I cannot wait for you
to get back. Your mom likesthings done in very particular ways, and
I never know what those ways are. Usually she likes things done the right
way. Okay, I try,it's just not for me though. It's
(20:29):
not for me either, but Idon't know how to break that to her
yet. But seriously, how havethings been back home? Well, they've
been all right. Rebuilding efforts arestill going strong. And the town's looking
way better for it. We gotsome residence in from calmar Lock, like
you guys did, and some ofthem have decided to stay permanently, so
that's brought some fun new people tothe area. We have a good fish
(20:53):
and chips place now, it's justit's so good, and they serve a
full Scottish break fist on the weekends, Big fan. Everything was actually settling
down well until recently. People inComralock knew already though, didn't they.
Some of them knew that Ovrea washuman, mainly missus Webber, but I
(21:14):
don't think people really believed her,and the people who did weren't really concerned.
After you left, none of usknew about the prophecy stuff. Though.
We don't have to talk about thisif you don't want to, Ava,
No, it's it's fine. Wait. So at dinner, Lucinda mentioned
that you guys got fed the wholespiel from the High Council. Did all
(21:37):
of Bluff get that too? Atfirst? Just Lucinda and I did,
and I barely got in on thatmeeting the council. Let Lucinda spread the
word after, but we were theonly two to directly talk to them.
You talked to the council. Yeah, what are they like? Hard to
describe. There are a group offives, but they're all of some ancient
(22:03):
type and claim they've been alive longenough to see the rise and fall of
the last age of cryptids. Theysaid, the same warning signs are all
there, what with intercrypted problems likeNessie and Lygia, exposures like comra lock,
and they're really convinced that Ovre's causingit all. How they know she's
human? What are they claiming shecan do? Even if ov was encrypted.
(22:27):
It's not like any of us wouldbe able to raise a sleeping monster
or convince Lagia to kill people. And Avra obviously didn't go to Scotland to
expose comra lock. They think yourpresence is causing some sort of imbalance.
Av They want a clear separation betweencrypted and human communities, like zero interaction.
(22:49):
I mean they're from hun Maday,I guess that's obvious, but they've
been against it from the start andhave been monitoring all the towns since their
foundings. But it seems impossible unlesswe want to figure out how to do
literally everything on our own. Heand Midday has been able to do it
only because they have a population thirtytimes the size of ours. They must
(23:14):
have some plan they aren't sharing. They definitely do. Lucinda tried to get
them to talk when we were onthe phone with them, But the High
Council is kg with their plans. Not sure why, but they aren't saying
a thing until that meeting tomorrow.Did they say anything about what they're planning
on doing with me? What weall know if they came all this way
here, they're not going to justleave me be. I'd rather know now
(23:37):
if they're planning on offering me Alfrah. I'm just being realistic. They're not
going to kill you. Lucinda askedabout what their intentions were with you,
and they said they had a plan. That sounds bad. Not necessarily,
the High Council knows you're an importantpiece in this whole doomsday puzzle. They
(24:00):
won't just get rid of you. They probably want to use you, or
at the very least see why you'reaffecting things the way you are. Yeah,
the main question is how or wheredo you think they'll bring me back
to human day. I don't know. All of this is just assumptions off
of the cryptic things that they werewilling to tell me. Sybil probably knows
(24:22):
more about it than I do.Why me, you're close with that investigator
now right? She hasn't said anythingto you about it. We're not close.
I mean, Kendy was just helpingme learn magic, that's all.
I haven't even talked since that dayat the hospital. You haven't, No,
(24:42):
Why is that surprising? Do youtalk to Roger every day? Well?
No, but I thought, nevermind. Wait have any of you
talked to Kendy since then? Italked to her briefly, like week and
a half ago. I haven't heardanything since. Why do we even know
(25:03):
if she's okay? Like I know, we don't love her, but she
did go against her hometown and herscary superiors to save your life off.
No one's seen her around town.Nothing that doesn't sound good. Maybe one
of us should. I'll get it. Were we waiting for someone else?
(25:27):
Not that I was aware of?Hello? Um, can I help you?
Is this the nun Year's residence? Can I ask who you are?
First? My name is High CouncilMember Aloovo. I'm here on behalf of
the rest of my Council to talkto avrahnun Yez. Is this her residence?
(25:52):
It is, but she's busy atthe moment. Can I pass on
a message? And who are you? Her roommate? Fine? Tell Ava
News that she is required to beat the All Town meeting tomorrow for its
duration. She's also required to sitin a pre marked spot in the front
row next to a traitorous former investigator. If she does not arrive on her
(26:15):
own accord, we will ensure sheattends regardless. Okay, I'll pass that
